Description

Pest control composition

[0001] The present invention relates to a pest control composition.

[0002] For the extermination of sanitary pests such as mosquitoes and mites that transmit various pathogens to humans and livestock, agricultural pests such as thrips, aphids and scale insects that ravage crops in fields or transmit viruses that become pathogens of crops, and horticultural pests, various synthetic insecticides such as pyrethroids, organophosphate insecticides and carbamate insecticides are often used.

[0003] On the other hand, pesticides for exterminating pests without relying on these synthetic insecticides are known. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses that a flying pest control composition containing a predetermined amount of a wing wetting agent that meets predetermined requirements and that is used by spraying droplets having a predetermined average particle size is highly safe for humans and the environment and can efficiently exterminate flying pests by reducing the flying ability of flying pests. Patent Document 2 discloses that a flying pest control composition containing a predetermined surfactant, at least one compound selected from organic acids and organic acid salts, and water, that is used by spraying flying pests, is highly safe for humans and the environment and has excellent insecticidal properties.

[0006] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing a method for evaluating the mosquito knockdown rate in an example. Detailed Description of the Invention

[0007] However, the present inventors have found that the pest control compositions disclosed in Patent Documents 1 and 2 still have room for improvement in that, when sprayed indoors, the sprayed material that falls on a floor surface such as a tile takes a long time to dry, and the dried residue of the sprayed material mars the appearance of the floor surface, etc. The present invention relates to providing a pest control composition that dries quickly, leaves little dried residue, and has excellent pest control properties.

[0008] The present inventors have discovered that a pest control composition containing a specific anionic surfactant, one or more components selected from the group consisting of nonionic surfactants and oily components, and water, which satisfies certain requirements, can solve the above-mentioned problems. Furthermore, the inventors have discovered that this pest control composition is less likely to become cloudy or precipitate, and is also highly desirable in terms of composition stability.

[0009] According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a pest control composition that dries quickly, leaves little dried residue, and has excellent pest control properties.

[0010] [Definitions] As used herein, the term "pest control composition" refers to a composition capable of preventing and reducing damage caused by pests. Pests are described later. As used herein, "pest control" refers to a state in which, after application of the composition to a pest, the pest is at least rendered unable to move (knocked down). "Movement" here includes flight. As used herein, pest control activity is evaluated by the knockdown rate after application of the composition to the pest. The knockdown rate can be specifically evaluated by the method described in the Examples. As used herein, "quick drying of a composition" refers to the short drying time required for the liquid content of a composition dropped onto a floor surface such as a tile to evaporate and disappear, and this can be specifically evaluated by the method described in the Examples. As used herein, "leaving little residue on drying of a composition" refers to the small amount of residue and white residue remaining after drying the composition, and this can be specifically evaluated by the method described in the Examples. As used herein, "excellent stability of a composition" refers to the low occurrence of cloudiness of the composition, precipitation of the components contained in the composition, and the like, and this can be specifically evaluated by the method described in the Examples.

[0011] [Pest control composition] The pest control composition of the present invention is a pest control composition comprising: component (A): a salt-tolerant anionic surfactant, component (B): one or more selected from the group consisting of a nonionic surfactant (b11) and an oily component (b12), and component (C): water, wherein the molar ratio X / A is 1.2 or more and 15 or less, where X is the number of moles of monovalent metal ions in the composition and A is the number of moles of component (A). By virtue of having the above-mentioned constitution, the pest control composition of the present invention (hereinafter also simply referred to as "the composition (of the present invention)") dries quickly, leaves little dried residue, and has excellent pest control properties.

[0012] The reason why the composition of the present invention exhibits the above-mentioned effects is unclear, but is thought to be as follows. The composition of the present invention contains component (A) and component (B) as pest control active ingredients. By using components (A) and (B) in combination, the thickness of the thin film made of the composition formed on floor surfaces such as tiles is reduced. This is thought to improve the drying rate of the composition. Furthermore, when the molar ratio X / A is equal to or greater than a predetermined value, the thin film made of the composition is prevented from aggregating over time into a thick film or droplets, which is thought to further improve the drying rate of the composition. Furthermore, when the molar ratio X / A is equal to or less than a predetermined value, it is thought to be possible to prevent the generation of drying residue due to the tendency of monovalent metal salts to precipitate.

[0013] Furthermore, when the molar number X of monovalent metal ions in the composition increases, the charge repulsion between the hydrophilic groups of the anionic surfactants is suppressed, making it easier to form a water-insoluble hydrated solid, and the stability of the composition tends to decrease. On the other hand, it is thought that the stability of the composition is also improved because the component (A) is salt-tolerant and the dissolution of the component (A) in the composition is promoted by the combined use of a specific component (B).

[0014] The "pests" in the present invention mainly include insects that harm humans, livestock, and their living spaces, as well as agricultural crops or horticultural plants. Specific examples of pests include sanitary pests such as mosquitoes, black flies, flies, horseflies, midges, cockroaches, and mites; nuisance pests such as bees, ants, stink bugs, pill bugs, spiders, millipedes, centipedes, and house centipedes; and agricultural pests such as grasshoppers, locusts, planthoppers, moths, thrips, scale insects, cucumber beetles, aphids, and caterpillars. The composition of the present invention is particularly effective in exterminating mosquitoes, black flies, flies, horseflies, midges, cockroaches, stink bugs, thrips, scale insects, cucumber beetles, and aphids. In this example, the pest control properties of the composition were evaluated based on the knockdown rate of mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus), but the pests that can be controlled by the composition of the present invention are not limited to mosquitoes.

Specifically, this can be evaluated by the method described in the Examples. Transparency may also be determined when the turbidity (OD600) of the solution at a wavelength of 600 nm is 0.05 or less. [0059] <Dosage Form> A preferred dosage form of the composition of the present invention is a liquid formulation that is liquid at 25°C.

[0060] [Pest Control Spray] The present invention provides a pest control spray obtained by filling the pest control composition into a spray container or a spray device.

[0061] <Spray Container> The spray container used for the pest control spray is not particularly limited as long as it can be filled with the composition, which is a liquid formulation, and can be ejected in the form of droplets or a mist. The droplets or mist may include foam (foam particles). Examples of the spray container include an aerosol container filled with a propellant such as compressed gas, and a non-compressed spray container that does not require a propellant. From the viewpoint of improving pest control performance, a non-compressed spray container in which the container is kept at normal pressure is preferred. From the viewpoint of improving pest control performance, the non-compressed spray container is preferably an extrusion-type spray container, more preferably a trigger spray container, and even more preferably a pressure-accumulator trigger spray container. Pressure-accumulator spray containers are generally structured so that a piston slides relative to a cylinder housed inside the container, causing liquid in the cylinder that exceeds a certain pressure to be ejected from a nozzle. That is, the liquid is ejected to the outside of the container only when the liquid pressure in the cylinder exceeds a certain pressure, which is advantageous in terms of controlling the particle size of the ejected droplets. An example of a pressure-accumulating trigger spray container is the container described in JP 2017-226474 A. The capacity of the spray container is not particularly limited, but is, for example, 50 mL or more and 2 L or less from the viewpoint of discharging toward a target object.

[0062] <Spraying Device> The spraying device used for pest control sprays may be any device capable of discharging the liquid formulation of the composition in the form of droplets or a mist, and includes a dispersing device. The spraying device preferably includes a container or tank containing the composition (liquid formulation) of the present invention, a spray mechanism for spraying the composition, and a discharge port for discharging the composition. The spraying mechanism includes a flow path communicating with the composition (liquid formulation) contained in the storage container, and the composition fed from the flow path can be pressure-fed by a piston or the like and sent to the discharge port through a narrowed opening or flow path, thereby discharging the composition in the form of droplets or a mist. The discharge port may be part of the spraying mechanism, or may have a separate structure as long as it is connected to the spraying mechanism. The method for pressure-fed the composition in the spraying mechanism includes a compression type using a propellant such as compressed gas, and a non-compression type using a piston (including a plunger). From the viewpoint of improving pest control, a non-compression type is preferred. Among non-compression types, a pressure-accumulation type in which a certain amount of pressure-fed composition is stored just before the discharge port is more preferred from the viewpoint of finer spray particles.

[0063] Examples of spraying devices include handheld types that can be held by hand and small, portable types such as drones. In either case, it is preferable that the direction of the flow path immediately before the opening of the discharge port is directed toward the pests. The discharge port preferably has a cylindrical discharge flow path, and the inner diameter of the discharge flow path is preferably 0.1 mm or more and 1 mm or less, more preferably 0.2 mm or more and 0.8 mm or less, and even more preferably 0.3 mm or more and 0.6 mm or less.

[0064] Examples of handheld sprayers include trigger sprayers and push-type sprayers, and spraying is performed by pulling the trigger or pressing the push button. In the case of a trigger sprayer, a single spray is performed by pulling the trigger, and in the case of a push-type, a single spray is performed by pressing the push button. From the viewpoint of being held in a person's hand and used, the handheld sprayer is preferably a trigger spray or push-type, and from the viewpoint of ease of single spraying and repeated operations, the handheld sprayer is more preferably a trigger spray. Furthermore, from the viewpoint of being held in a hand and discharging, it is preferable that the discharge port of the handheld sprayer is provided on the side when held in a hand, and that a discharge flow path is formed facing sideways.

[0065] A small, mobile spray device such as a drone may be one in which the nozzle is opened by turning on a switch and sprays during flight, or may be equipped with any of various known spray mechanisms. The small, mobile spray device may be mounted on a small airplane as well as on a means of transportation such as a drone. From the viewpoint of spraying toward a target during flight, it is preferable that the opening of the nozzle is located on the bottom of the small, mobile spray device.

[0066] In spray devices, the container or tank that holds the composition is typically made of plastic, and in handheld spray devices, a tube such as a dip tube is inserted into the container or tank to deliver the composition to the spray mechanism. When the trigger is pulled or the push button is pressed, the composition in the cylinder area of the piston or plunger is pressure-fed to the discharge port and sprayed, and when the pulled trigger or push button is returned, the cylinder area expands and the composition is sucked from the container or tank into the cylinder via the tube. The capacity of the container or tank that holds the composition is not particularly limited, but from the perspective of spraying toward pests, it is, for example, more than 2 L and not more than 100 L.

[0067] The nozzle diameter (discharge diameter) of the spray container or spray device is preferably 0.1 mm or more, more preferably 0.3 mm or more, from the viewpoint of improving pest control properties, spray uniformity of the composition, and spray area, and from the same viewpoint, is preferably 2.0 mm or less, more preferably 1.5 mm or less, and even more preferably 1.0 mm or less. Examples of methods for contacting pests with the composition of the present invention include a method of discharging the composition of the present invention onto pests, or onto a space or object in which pests are present. For example, a method of preparing a spray by filling a spray container or spray device with the pest control composition, and then spraying or scattering the composition by aiming the nozzle of the spray container or spray device at the object is exemplified. Preferred aspects, such as the amount of composition discharged by the spray container or spray device, are as described above.

[0076] The present invention will be described below with reference to examples, but is not limited to the scope of the examples. In the examples, various evaluations and measurements were carried out by the following methods.

[0077] (OD Value) A measurement sample was obtained by dissolving or dispersing the anionic surfactant used in each example in a 0.075% by mass NaCl aqueous solution at 25° C. to a concentration of 0.5% by mass. The obtained measurement sample was filled into a Kartell disposable cell (model number 1937, made of polystyrene, optical path length 10 mm, optical path width 10 mm), and the OD value at a wavelength of 600 nm was measured using an Eppendorf biospectrometer.

[0078] (Number of moles X of monovalent metal ions in the composition, and total number of moles A of component (A) in the composition) The number of moles X of monovalent metal ions and the total number of moles A of component (A) in each pest control composition were calculated from the molecular weights of the components blended in each composition and the amounts thereof blended.

[0079] (Drying Time) Each example of pest control composition was filled into a Maruem Co., Ltd. "PP Spray Vial No. 6." An Indonesian ceramic tile (size: 45 cm x 45 cm, surface water contact angle: approximately 40°) was placed on the floor, and one push (approximately 0.09 g) of the composition was sprayed onto the tile surface from a spray nozzle 15 cm vertically from the top surface of the tile. The tile was left to stand at 25°C and 50% RH, and the time until the sprayed composition ceased to volatilize was confirmed by visual observation. The drying time (minutes) is shown in the table. A smaller value indicates a faster drying rate of the composition.

[0080] (Drying Time Difference) In Table 1, the difference in drying time (minutes) from Comparative Example 1 or Comparative Example 3 containing only the corresponding component (A) was calculated, and is shown in the table. In Tables 2 and 3, the difference in drying time from Comparative Example 3 was calculated and shown in the table. The smaller the value, the greater the effect of shortening the drying time.

[0081] (Appearance of tile after drying) After measuring the "drying time" as described above, the appearance of the ceramic tile was visually observed and evaluated according to the following criteria: A: No drying residue or only a small amount of drying residue, with almost no white residue B: White residue due to drying residue is observed, but within the acceptable range C: A large amount of white residue due to drying residue

[0082] (Appearance at Room Temperature (25°C)) Approximately 100 mL of each pest control composition was filled into a Labolan screw cap bottle No. 8 (a glass bottle with a capacity of 110 mL, mouth inner diameter x body diameter x height (mm) = 20.3 x 40 x 120) manufactured by AS ONE Corporation, and after storage at room temperature (25°C) for 1 hour, the appearance was visually observed. Clear and transparent compositions were rated as "A," and compositions with turbidity, precipitation, or sedimentation were rated as "C."

[0083] (Knockdown rate after 5 minutes) As shown in Figure 1, 10 female Aedes albopictus mosquitoes were placed in an acrylic box (6 x 6 x 4 cm) covered on both sides with mesh cloth (nylon, 15D, mesh shape: hexagonal, mesh size: 1.5 mm). Each example of the pest control composition was sprayed once from a distance of 30 cm from the mesh cloth surface using a spray prepared by filling approximately 100 mL of a trigger spray container (trigger type: pressure-accumulating, capacity 370 mL, nozzle diameter: 0.8 mm, discharge amount: 0.9 g / spray). "One spray" means that the spray was performed by pulling the trigger of the trigger spray container once with a full stroke. If the Aedes albopictus mosquito fell on its back or side and was unable to maintain flight after lightly tapping the acrylic box, the Aedes albopictus was recorded as having been knocked down. The number of knocked-down Aedes albopictus mosquitoes was counted 5 minutes after spraying the composition, and the knock-down rate was calculated as the number of knocked-down mosquitoes / 10×100 (%).

[0084] Examples 1 to 12 and Comparative Examples 1 to 11 (Preparation and Evaluation of Pest Control Compositions) Pest control compositions were prepared by blending the components shown in Tables 1 to 3 and mixing them with a stirrer. The amounts shown in Tables 1 to 3 are the active ingredient amounts (mass%) of each component. The resulting compositions were used to evaluate appearance using the methods described above. The prepared compositions were also filled into the spray vials or trigger spray containers to prepare pesticides. The resulting pesticides were used to perform other evaluations using the methods described above. The evaluation results are shown in Tables 1 to 3.
