Abstract
Description
[0001] 2024PF80167
[0002] 1
[0003] An adjustable light fixture and an adjustable lamp
[0004] FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The present invention generally relates to an adjustable light fixture and an adjustable lamp.
[0006] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0007] Adjustable luminaires that can be aimed and fixed in a certain location are known in the art, and the adjustability is typically provided by means of a snap-lock mechanism or by means of a constant friction clamping mechanism, which both have certain disadvantages. For example, they require significant force to adjust since the luminaire must be locked in position. Also, they are subject to wear over time, and they require very tight tolerances. Finally, a constant friction clamping mechanism always requires an additional assembly step and cannot be integrated in so called “print-in-place” solutions.
[0008] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0009] It is an object of the present invention to provide an adjustable light fixture and an adjustable lamp having one or more of an improved functionality, improved durability, facilitated use, and facilitated manufacture.
[0010] This and other objects are achieved by providing an adjustable light fixture having the features in the independent claim. Preferred embodiments are defined in the dependent claims.
[0011] According to the present invention, there is provided an adjustable light fixture comprising a base member comprising at least one protrusion element wherein the base member defines a base plane comprising a pivot axis. The base plane may be oriented horizontally or vertically. It is further conceivable that the base plane is oriented at an angle to horizontal or vertical plane.
[0012] The adjustable light fixture further comprises a pivoting member pivotably connected to the base member and comprising a locking portion comprising a plurality of slot elements being arranged for receiving the at least one protrusion element. By the term “pivotably connected” is understood that the pivoting member is attached to the base member 2024PF80167
[0013] 2 such that there is at least one connection point around which the pivoting member pivots in relation to the base member. Preferably, there are two connection points around which the pivoting member pivots in relation to the base member.
[0014] The pivoting member is movable along a tilt axis relative the base member between a locked position and an unlocked position. The tilt axis extends substantially perpendicular to the base plane. By the term “substantially” is in the context of the present invention understood as deviating by a maximum of 10 degrees.
[0015] The pivoting member is configured to assume a first illumination position wherein the protrusion element is arranged in overlap with the locking portion in a first slot element of the plurality of slot elements, and a second illumination position in which the protrusion element is arranged in overlap with the locking portion in a second slot element of the plurality of slot elements. By the term “in overlap” is understood that the locking portion extends over or past and covers a part of the protrusion element. According to the present invention, in the unlocked position of the pivoting member, the protrusion element is arranged outside the locking portion of the pivoting member, thus enabling pivoting of the pivoting member around the pivot axis.
[0016] The protrusion element has a shaft with a major extension that is perpendicular to the base plane and parallel to the tilt axis. The major extension of the shaft is dimensioned to fit inside each slot element of the plurality of slot elements. Furthermore, the major extension of the shaft has a shaft length of at least 1 cm, and each slot element of the plurality of slot elements has a slot length of at least 5 millimeters.
[0017] Thereby, a compact adjustable light fixture with improved functionality is provided. For instance, the adjustable light fixture may be configured as a recessed spotlight.
[0018] The protrusion element of the base member and the locking portion of the pivoting member, in particular the slot elements of the locking portion, are dimensioned such that gravity is sufficient to hold the pivoting member in the locked position.
[0019] In order to transfer the adjustable light fixture of the present invention between different illumination positions, the pivoting member is pushed along the tilt axis, thus moving the locking portion along the tilt axis, and releasing the protrusion member. Only gravity force has to be counteracted in order to perform such a maneuver. Once the protrusion member is released, the pivoting member may be pivoted around the pivot axis. When the desired illumination position is achieved, the pivoting member is released, and gravity leads to the protrusion element becoming arranged in a different illumination position. 2024PF80167
[0020] 3
[0021] The light emitting device may be arranged in connection to the pivoting member, such that the light emitting device pivots in relation to the base member together with the pivoting member. In particular, the pivoting member may constitute a frame arranged around the light emitting device. The term “light emitting device” implies a light source, such as a LED lamp.
[0022] The base member and the pivoting member may have same or different shapes. In particular, the base member and the pivoting member may be in the form of concentric circles, wherein the diameter of the base member is greater than the diameter of the pivoting member.
[0023] Each of the base member and the pivoting member may be integrally formed, thus improving manufacturing. By the term “integrally formed” is understood as being formed as one single piece. Furthermore, the base member and the pivoting member being arranged as defined above provide structural robustness.
[0024] The first slot element and the second slot element may have different orientations in relation to the base plane.
[0025] Thereby, an adjustable light fixture with improved functionality is provided. By the slot elements having a respective different orientation, the light fixture can be aimed to and fixed in different directions.
[0026] The pivoting member may be configured to pivot around the pivot axis PA over an angle of rotation, a, wherein -45° < a < +45° relative to the pivot axis. Such an angle of rotation provides sufficient adjustability. Thereby, an adjustable light fixture with improved functionality is provided.
[0027] The pivoting member may comprise an actuator being arranged to move the pivoting member along the tilt axis between the locked position and the unlocked position. In order to move the pivoting member along the tilt axis such that the protrusion element no longer overlaps with the locking portion thus enabling pivoting of the pivoting member, the used may grab the actuator and move it along the tilt axis, thereby moving the pivoting member such that the protrusion element is released. Such an embodiment offers the advantage of facilitated maneuvering of the pivoting member, since the actuator may be easily accessible for the user.
[0028] The actuator may be slidably arranged in a locking slit. The actuator may be linearly guided along the locking slit. 2024PF80167
[0029] 4
[0030] The base member and / or the pivoting member may be manufactured by means of in-place printing. Such a printing technology means that an assembly is printed without the need for any further manual assembly, and the part may be used right away.
[0031] Thereby, an adjustable light fixture that is easy to manufacture is provided, allowing parts to be consolidated into a single piece, eliminating the need for complex assemblies. This reduces potential failure points, lowers costs, and minimizes waste. Furthermore, in-place printing entails manufacturing a structurally sound and robust adjustable light fixture. Even further, in-place printing of the adjustable light fixture enables the possibility for intricate designs and internal structures, resulting in comparably lighter parts without compromising strength or durability.
[0032] The pivoting member may be arranged in a plane being parallel to the base plane in the initial illumination position.
[0033] The at least one protrusion element may be configured to slidingly engage with each slot element of the plurality of slot elements, when the pivoting member is transferred between the first illumination position and the second illumination position, or any other illumination position.
[0034] Thereby, an adjustable light fixture that is easy to use is provided. Furthermore, such a mechanism ensures that the adjustable light fixture is not transferred from one illumination position to another by accident, e.g. by bumping the adjustable light fixture. Since the protrusion element is released completely from the locking portion of the pivoting member, the pivoting member may be pivoted with minimal resistance, thus sparing the protrusion member and the locking portion, which prolongs the lifetime of the adjustable light fixture.
[0035] The weight of the pivoting member may be configured to allow the at least one protrusion element to become arranged in the at least one slot element by gravity thereby allowing the pivoting member to assume the desired illumination position. In other word, once the user has pivoted the pivoting member to the desired position, he simply releases the pivoting member, which will under action of gravity move along the tilt axis such that the locking portion approaches the protrusion member. Once the protrusion member comes in contact with the locking portion, it will slidingly engage with the nearest slot element, thus bringing the pivoting member into the locked position.
[0036] The adjustable light fixture thus offers the advantage of improved functionality in the sense that the adjustable light fixture is provided with an adjusting mechanism that ensures that the pivoting member assumes the desired illumination position 2024PF80167
[0037] 5 without additional / extemal parts. Using gravity to affix the adjustable light fixture to a certain illumination position is convenient and efficient.
[0038] Another advantage of the present invention is that since the adjustable light fixture does not need to be provided with additional / extemal parts in order for the adjustable light fixture to assume the desired illumination position, which in turn entails little to no potential failure points, the adjustable light fixture is provided with comparably high durability. In conventional light fixtures, in order to assume a certain illumination position, the conventional light fixtures are typically provided with a snap-lock mechanism or a constant friction clamping mechanism which introduces potential failure points due to wear over time.
[0039] The adjustable light fixture is provided with ease of use in the sense that in order to transfer the adjustable light fixture to the desired illumination position, the gravity is sufficient, thus eliminating the need for additional forces to be provided by the user. Additionally, merely the gravity needs to be overcome when transferring the adjustable light fixture into a new illumination position.
[0040] Since the adjustable light fixture does not need to be provided with additional / extemal parts, the adjustable light fixture is manufactured with fewer parts hence entailing ease of manufacture.
[0041] The plurality of slot elements comprised in the locking portion of the pivoting member may comprise a third slot element, the pivoting member being configured to assume a third illumination position, wherein the third slot element is associated with the third illumination position, and wherein an orientation of the third slot element is different from the orientations of the first and second slot elements in relation to the base plane.
[0042] The adjustable light fixture may thus be configured to assume several illumination positions and thereby, an adjustable light fixture with improved functionality is provided.
[0043] The first slot element and the second slot element, as well as any further slot element, may be arranged along a curved rail.
[0044] The curved rail may be shaped to facilitate the pivoting motion of the pivoting member. Thereby, an adjustable light fixture with improved functionality is provided.
[0045] The pivoting member may comprise a receptacle configured to receive a light source, such as a light bulb, wherein the receptacle is configured to enclose at least a portion of the light source, as described above. 2024PF80167
[0046] 6
[0047] The light source and the receptacle of the pivoting member may form a tight coupling hence ensuring that the light source is secured in the pivoting member. Thereby, an adjustable light fixture with improved functionality and durability is provided.
[0048] The invention further relates to an adjustable lamp, comprising at least one adjustable light fixture in accordance with the above. Such an adjustable lamp may be arranged in a ceiling such that the base member is fixedly arranged at the surface of the ceiling, while the pivoting member allows aiming the light emitted by the lamp into different spots according to the desire of the user.
[0049] The present invention thus provides an adjustable light fixture with one or more of an improved functionality, improved durability and ease of use, and ease of manufacture is provided.
[0050] Firstly, the adjustable light fixture is provided with improved functionality in the sense that the adjustable light fixture has facilitated pivoting motion of the pivoting member and may be affixed to its intended illumination position.
[0051] Secondly, the adjustable light fixture is provided with improved durability in the sense that the light fixture requires minimal force to be adjusted. Hence, the adjustable light fixture is subjected to little to no wear over time. Further, such an adjusting mechanism allows for larger tolerances.
[0052] Thirdly, the adjustable light fixture is provided with ease of use in the sense that the adjustable light fixture comprises comparably few parts and thereby is easily operable.
[0053] Fourthly, the adjustable light fixture is provided with ease of manufacture in the sense that manufacture of the adjustable light fixture allows for larger tolerances compared to conventional light fixtures as known in the art. The adjustable light fixture according to the present invention does not need an additional assembly step and thus there is provided flexible manufacturing solutions. For instance, the adjustable light fixture may be manufactured in accordance with so called “Print-in-Place” solutions.
[0054] It is noted that the invention relates to all possible combinations of features recited in the claims.

[0061] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS
[0062] The present invention will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which currently preferred embodiments of the invention are shown. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided for thoroughness and completeness, and fully convey the scope of the invention to the skilled person.
[0063] Figures la and lb show an adjustable light fixture 100 that comprises two major portions: a base member 110 and a pivoting member 120. The adjustable light fixture depicted in Figures la and lb is in the initial illumination position.
[0064] In the following, the base member 110 is described in detail. The base member 110 is ring-shaped. The base member 110 has a through-going opening and an annular portion being substantially flat. The base member 110 defines a base plane. The base member 110 comprises a frame member 114 arranged at an inner perimeter of the base member 110. The frame member 114 is annular. The base member 110 comprises at least one protrusion element 112. As may be seen in Figure la, the base member 110 comprises two protrusion elements 112. The protrusion elements 112 have a shaft with a major extension being perpendicular to a base plane of the base member 110, and parallel to the tilt axis X. The shaft may have any suitable shape. For example, the shaft may be rod-shaped or beamshaped. The major extension of the shaft has a length of at least 1 cm, such as at least 2 cm, or at least 5 cm.
[0065] The protrusion elements 112 are oppositely arranged relative the tilt axis X. The protrusion elements 112 are arranged at an inner perimeter of the base member 110. The protrusion elements 112 are integrally formed with the frame member 114.
[0066] In the following, the pivoting member 120 is described in detail. The pivoting member 120 is pivotably connected to the base member 110. The pivoting member 120 is annular. As may be seen in Figures la and lb, the pivoting member 110 is positioned 2024PF80167
[0067] 8 inwardly from the inner perimeter of the base member 110. More specifically, the pivoting member 120 and the frame member 114 of the base member 110 are concentrical rings. The dimensions of the pivoting member 120 are configured to allow the pivoting member 120 to fit in the through-going opening of the base member 110. An annular wall 121 of the pivoting member 120 is angled towards a centre of the pivoting member 120. The pivoting member 120 has a through-going opening. The pivoting member 120 comprises a first slot element 152 and a second slot element 154. The first slot element 152 and the second slot element 154 are arranged in the locking portion of the pivoting member 120 at an outer major surface of the annular wall 121 of the pivoting member 120. The first slot element 152 and the second slot element 154 are integrally formed with the annular wall 121 of the pivoting member 120.
[0068] The pivoting member 120 further comprises a receptacle 160. The receptacle 160 is configured to receive a light source, such as a light bulb. The receptacle 160 is configured to enclose at least a portion of the light source. The receptacle 160 comprises projecting elements 162. The projecting elements 162 are integrally formed with the annular wall 121 of the pivoting member 120.
[0069] In the following, the function of the adjustable light fixture 100 is described in detail.
[0070] Starting with Figures la and lb, the respective first and second slot element 152, 154 is arranged for receiving the at least one protrusion element 112 of the base member 112.
[0071] In an initial illumination position, the pivoting member 120 is arranged in a plane being parallel to the base plane of the base member 110. In order words, the pivoting member 120 has yet to pivot relative the pivot axis PA. Furthermore, in the initial illumination position, the cover portion 112a of the protrusion element 112 receives the locking portion of the pivoting member 120. In the initial illumination position, neither of the slot elements 152, 154 of the base member 110 has engaged with the protrusion element 112.
[0072] When it is desired to amend the illumination position of the pivoting member 120, the user pushes the pivoting member 120 along the tilt axis X such that the protrusion element 112 is not in overlap with the locking portion 150a of the pivoting member 120. The pivoting member 120may thereafter be adjusted to the desired illumination position as the one depicted in Figures 2a and 2b. When the user is satisfied with the position of the pivoting member 120, he simply releases the pivoting member 120, thus causing the pivoting member 120 to move back towards the base member 110 along the tilt axis X under action of gravity 2024PF80167
[0073] 9 force. As soon as the locking portion 150a of the pivoting member 120 comes in contact with the protrusion element 112, the protrusion element 112 slidingly engages with one of the slot element 152, 154, thus bringing the pivoting member 120 into a locked position.
[0074] Continuing with Figures 2a and 2b, the pivoting member 120 can be seen as having pivoted relative the pivot axis PA. In this position, the pivoting member 120 has pivoted relative the base plane of the base member 110 an angle. The pivoting member 120 assumes a first illumination position when the protrusion element 112 is arranged in the first slot element 152. The pivoting member 120 assumes a second illumination position when the second slot element 154 is associated with the second illumination position. As can be seen in Figures 2a and 2b, the first slot element 152 and second slot element 154 have a different orientation in relation to the base plane of the base member 110.
[0075] As is further illustrated in Figures 2a and 2b, the locking portion 150a of the pivoting member 120 comprises a plurality of slot elements. It should be noted that the plurality of slot elements is not limited to a certain number of slot elements. The number of slot elements may be completely arbitrary. The specific example as illustrated in Fig 2b shows a pivoting member 120 wherein the plurality of slot elements further comprises a third slot element 156 (and additional slot elements). The third slot element 156 is associated with the third illumination position. An orientation of the third slot element 156 is different from the orientations of the first and second slot element 152, 154 in relation to the base plane.
[0076] Each of the first slot element 152, the second slot element 154, and the third slot element 156 has a slot length of at least 5 millimeters, such as at least 10 millimeters, or at least 15 millimeters. In combination with the major extension of the shaft having a length of at least 1 cm, such as at least 2 cm, or at least 5 cm, this means that, when the major extension of the shaft is fitted into one of the slot elements, the major extension of the shaft will always have slid into the slot element over a length of at least 5 millimeters, which (at least in most practical situations) ensures that gravity is sufficient to hold the pivoting member in the locked position, and to no additional measures are required to prevent any inadvertent release of the pivoting member from the locked position.
[0077] As further shown in Figure 2b, at least two of the first slot element 152, the second slot element 154, and the third slot element 156 have a different slot length. This is advantageous particularly in terms of allowing a variety of differently customized and / or possible illumination positions. This design also facilitates the pivoting member 120 to pivot and assume a certain illumination position. 2024PF80167
[0078] 10
[0079] As best seen in Figure 2b, the pivoting member 120 is configured to pivot around the pivot axis PA an angle of rotation, a. The angle of rotation, a, of the pivoting member 120 as illustrated in Figure 2b is approximately -30°. Generally, the angle of rotation, a, is in a range being -45° < a < +45°. This provides the adjustable light fixture 100 with sufficient adjustability. The angle of rotation, a, is however not limited to the range -45° < a < +45°. By way of example, the adjustable light fixture 100 may be designed such that the angle of rotation, a, is in a range of -45° < a < +45°, -50° < a < +50°, -55° < a < +55°, or - 60° < a < +60°.
[0080] When the adjustable light fixture 100 assumes a certain illumination position, the protrusion element 112 is configured to slidingly engage with the slot element that is associated with that illumination position. Such a mechanism is easy to use and further ensures that the adjustable light fixture 100 is not transferred from one illumination position to another by accident. The major extension of the shaft of the protrusion element 112 is dimensioned to fit inside each slot element of the plurality of slot elements. Tight fit of the major extension of the shaft of the protrusion element 112 in the slot element is not necessary, since the risk of the protrusion element 112 unintentionally disengaging from the slot element is non-existent, given the fact that the user needs to first move the pivoting member 120 along the tilt axis X.
[0081] The pivoting member 120 is associated with a weight. When the adjustable light fixture 100 assumes a certain illumination position, the weight of the pivoting member 120 ensures that the adjustable light fixture 100 is affixed to that illumination position. In other words, the weight of the pivoting member 120 is configured to allow the protrusion element 112 to become arranged in a slot element of the plurality of slot elements by gravity thereby allowing the pivoting member 120 to assume the associated illumination position.
[0082] Continuing with Figures 2a and 2b, the slot elements 152, 154, 156 are arranged along a curved rail 150. The curved rail 150 is arranged along an outer surface of the annular wall 121 of the pivoting member 120. The shape of the curved rail 150 facilities the pivoting motion of the pivoting member 120.
[0083] Finally, turning to Figures 3a to 3c, an actuator mechanism of the adjustable light fixture 100 is illustrated. The locking portion 150a of the pivoting member 120 is in overlap with the protrusion element 112 of the base member 110. At the same time, the protrusion element 112 is not engaged with any of the slot element arranged in the locking portion 150a of the pivoting member 120. 2024PF80167
[0084] 11
[0085] In order to transfer the adjustable light fixture 100 from one illumination position to another one, the pivoting member 120 is lifted in an upwards direction along the tilt axis X. To this end, the adjustable light fixture 100 is provided with an actuator mechanism to facilitate the pivoting motion of the pivoting member 120. The pivoting member 120 comprises an actuator 130. The actuator 130 is slidably arranged in a locking slit 140. In order to operate the actuator 130, the actuator 130 is linearly guided along the locking slit 140. Since the actuator 130 is part of the pivoting member 120, any displacements of the actuator 130 will also displace the pivoting member 120 to the same extent. The locking slit 140 may be provided in the base member 110, in particular in the frame member 114 of the base member 110. In the following, the function of the actuator mechanism will be described.
[0086] In Figure 3a, the actuator 130 assumes a locked position. The adjustable light fixture 100 also assumes an initial illumination position. The protrusion element 112 has yet to engage with any of the slot elements of the curved rail 150. In order to actuate the actuator 130, the actuator 130 is lifted by a user along the tilt axis X an extension of the locking slit 140. In this case, the actuator 130 is lifted upwards away from the non-illustrated base member 110.
[0087] In Figure. 3b, the actuator 130 has consequently assumed an unlocked position, wherein the pivoting member 120 is able to pivot. It should be noted that the protrusion element 112 is no longer in overlap with the locking portion 150a of the pivoting member and will thus not obstruct the pivoting motion of the pivoting member 120. The protrusion element 112 is now able to engage with one of the slot elements.
[0088] In Figure 3c, the protrusion element 112 has engaged with one of the slot elements, while the protrusion element 112 is yet again in overlap with the locking portion 150a of the pivoting member 120. Thus, the adjustable light fixture 100 assumes an illumination position associated with that slot element.
[0089] Generally, each of the base member 110 and the pivoting member 120 may be integrally formed. Furthermore, the base member and / or the pivoting member may be manufactured by means of in-place printing.
[0090] The adjustable light fixture 100 may be comprised in anon-illustrated adjustable lamp. The adjustable light fixture 100 may be used as a recessed spotlight.
[0091] The person skilled in the art realizes that the present invention by no means is limited to the preferred embodiments described above. On the contrary, many modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the appended claims. For example, one or more of the base member 110, the pivoting member 120, and the curved rail 150 may have 2024PF80167
[0092] 12 different shapes, dimensions, and / or sizes than those depicted / described, with remained function.
