Description

Detachable water sports board

[0001] The field of invention is that of the design and manufacture of water sports boards.

[0002] The invention relates more particularly to a water sports board comprising detachable sections. State of the art

[0003] There is a take-apart surfboard marketed by the company Nature Shapes. The fastening system for the two pieces is robust and allows for a very rigid assembly. However, using the board can lead to some discomfort, as metal bars stiffen the structure, which can limit the overall performance.

[0004] Furthermore, in the watersports industry, the inflatable market has exploded in recent years: kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, wing foiling, etc. Many activity sectors have been significantly impacted. However, inflatable boards can lack rigidity, are generally quite heavy, and their profile is limited by the inflatable technology. Moreover, inflating the board on the beach requires considerable effort and isn't particularly quick. In conclusion, inflatable boards are not suitable for creating high-performance watersports boards, especially for surfing, and these models are best suited for beginner surfers.

[0005] The disadvantages of the boards described above can also be coupled with manufacturing processes that are at least partially complex and / or degrade the performance of the board obtained too much compared to a classic, non-dismountable board.

[0006] In the field of the invention, the patent documents published under numbers US 2006 / 189288 A1, JP S56 145874 A, US 8 123 580 B1, and US 5 711 692 A describe removable assembly techniques for sports boards. Technical problem

[0007] The invention aims in particular to overcome these drawbacks of the prior art.

[0008] More specifically, the invention aims to provide a surfboard that can be quickly assembled and disassembled, thus reducing problems related to transporting the board, and that offers good performance during use.

[0009] The invention also aims to provide a simple and efficient method for manufacturing such a board.

[0010] These objectives, as well as others which will appear subsequently, are achieved thanks to the invention which relates to a water sports board comprising at least two parts that can be joined longitudinally to form the sports board, the board comprising, for each pair of parts that can be joined to each other: - a removable assembly device comprising two assembly elements, of which a first element is integrated into one of the two parts that can be joined, and a second element is integrated into the other of the two parts that can be joined, the first element and the second element being able to be assembled in a removable manner;- means for locking the first element and the second element in an assembled position, characterized in that each mounting element comprises a continuous peripheral lip extending from an interface intended to be in contact with the interface of the other mounting element, the continuous peripheral lip providing at least one cavity, and in that each butt joint comprises: - a foam core having a male end housed in the cavity or cavities; - a composite material coating incorporating a matrix, the coating being bonded to the foam core and to the continuous peripheral lip of the mounting element.

[0011] The water sports board according to the invention can be assembled and disassembled quickly, which greatly simplifies its transport and implementation.

[0012] Thanks to its removable assembly device(s), locking means, and the board's design to integrate them, the board can be assembled and disassembled simply.

[0013] Furthermore, the integration of the mounting elements into the cores of the butted sections, and the connections established between the deck and the cores, and between the deck and the continuous peripheral lip of each mounting element, allow the board to exhibit significant performance in use, approaching that of non-dismantable boards. More specifically, recent watersports boards generally feature a design incorporating a lightweight, relatively flexible foam core with good buoyancy, and a hard, rigid deck bonded to this core. In the watersports board according to the invention, the mounting elements, thanks to their continuous peripheral lips, make it possible to replicate this design, which also provides the capacity to absorb stress at the outer edge of the board, thanks to a material that is more rigid than the core. The placement of the male ends within the recesses of the mounting hardware allows for maximizing the volume of the foam core, and thus maximizing the properties that this foam core imparts to the surfboard. Furthermore, the inherently thin nature of a lip (measured along an axis transverse to the board's longitudinal axis) helps to limit the negative aspects that can be induced by the mounting hardware (excess weight relative to the core, increased rigidity, reduced buoyancy), while optimizing the connections between the mounting hardware, the core, and the deck material.

[0014] According to a preferred characteristic, each mounting element includes, at the interface, a stop projecting from an external surface of the continuous peripheral lip to which the coating is bonded, the stop being flush with the coating.

[0015] This stop helps to improve the quality of the final assembly between the butted parts.

[0016] This process prevents the coating from seeping between the interfaces of two assembled components during the board's manufacturing. During this manufacturing stage, a sealing barrier can be installed between the two adjacent stops while the board is being assembled, and then the coating is applied to the entire board. Subsequently, the coating that has accumulated on the two stops, followed by the sealing barrier and finally the stops themselves, are sanded. At the end of the sanding process, the two stops are flush with the coating surrounding them, and the space between the two adjacent interfaces is free of coating.

[0017] Advantageously, for each butt joint, the web has a shoulder on its male end, the continuous peripheral lip taking place in the shoulder, an external surface of the continuous peripheral lip flush with an external surface of the web bordering the shoulder.

[0018] The coating then spreads evenly over the outer surface of the peripheral lip and over the outer surface of the core bordering the shoulder.

[0019] According to a preferred design, each mounting element includes at least one spacer extending between the continuous peripheral lip from the interface, the spacer separating two recesses.

[0020] These spacers help to optimize the connection between the mounting elements and the webs of the butted parts, and

[0021] According to an advantageous solution, the interfaces of the first element and the second element adopt a "W" shape between two lateral edges of the board, with the spacers extending from the interfaces at the upper and lower inflection points of the "W" shape.

[0022] This "W" shape allows the mounting elements to transmit forces in all directions. Thus, the main stresses in the longitudinal direction of the board are well distributed, as are the torsional stresses.

[0023] The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a water sports board, the water sports board comprising at least two parts that can be joined longitudinally to form the sports board, the board comprising, for each pair of parts that can be joined to each other: - a removable assembly device comprising two mounting elements, of which a first element is intended to be integrated into one of the two parts that can be joined, and a second element is intended to be integrated into the other of the two parts that can be joined, the first element and the second element being removablely assembled;- means for locking the first and second elements in an assembled position, wherein each mounting element comprises a continuous peripheral lip extending from an interface intended to be in contact with the interface of the other mounting element, the continuous peripheral lip providing at least one cavity, and wherein each butted part comprises: - a foam core having a male end intended to be housed in the cavity or cavities; - a composite material coating incorporating a matrix; the method comprising: - a step of positioning the male ends in the cavity or cavities of the mounting elements of the respective butted parts; - a step of applying the coating by bonding it to the foam core and to the continuous peripheral lip of the mounting element of each butted part.

[0024] This process allows for the production of a demountable sports board as previously described. The advantages mentioned in relation to the previously described sports board apply entirely or almost entirely to this process.

[0025] Preferably, each mounting element includes, at the interface, a stop projecting from an external surface of the continuous peripheral lip to which the coating is bonded, the stop having an excess thickness relative to the terminal height of the stop at the end of the manufacturing process, the process including a step of sanding the coating and the stop after the application step, so that the stop comes flush with the coating.

[0026] This allows for a smooth, flat external surface at the stop and its surroundings.

[0027] Advantageously, between the positioning step and the application step, the process includes an assembly step in which all the butt-jointed parts are assembled by means of the assembly device(s), and the assembly elements are locked in the assembled position, and the sanding step is carried out on the assembled board.

[0028] Thanks to this design, the board obtained by the process has a coating and butt surfaces located in the same alignment when the board is assembled.

[0029] According to a preferred feature, after the assembly stage, a sealing barrier is placed at the interface between the stops of two mounting elements assembled together, the sealing barrier being removed during the sanding stage.

[0030] This prevents the unwanted introduction of the coating between the two mounting elements.

[0031] Advantageously, shoulders are provided at the male ends of the foam cores, the shoulders being intended to fully accommodate the continuous peripheral lips of the mounting elements.

[0032] Other features and advantages of the invention will become more apparent upon reading the following description of various preferred embodiments of the invention, given by way of illustrative and non-limiting examples, and the accompanying drawings, among which: a is a schematic representation, viewed from below, of a water sports board according to the invention (covering not shown); a is a schematic representation, viewed from the side, of the board; a is a schematic representation of the board according to section III-III shown in the figure, viewed from below; a is a schematic representation of a removable assembly device for the water sports board; a is a schematic perspective representation of a first element of the assembly device; a is a schematic representation of a second element of the assembly device; a is a schematic rear perspective representation of the second element of the assembly device;la is a schematic cross-sectional representation of a board (without coating) at the level of a removable assembly device; la is a schematic perspective representation of locking means for the first and second elements in an assembled position; la is a schematic cross-sectional representation of locking means for the first and second elements in an assembled position. Detailed description

[0033] With reference to figures 1 to 3, a water sports board 1 is shown.

[0034] The sports board 1 has two side edges 11, a front end 12 and a rear end 13.

[0035] The sports board 1 extends longitudinally between its front end 12 and its rear end 13.

[0036] This board 1 comprises at least two parts 2 that can be joined longitudinally to each other to form the sports board 1.

[0037] More specifically, plate 1 comprises three parts that can be joined together.

[0038] As detailed below, the board 1 comprises a front butt joint 2 presenting the front end 12 of the board 1, a central butt joint 2, and a rear butt joint 2 presenting the rear end 13 of the board 1.

[0039] The front butt joint 2 is intended to be butted to the central butt joint 2, and the rear butt joint 2 is intended to be butted to the central butt joint 2.

[0040] According to possible embodiments, plate 1 could comprise only two parts that can be joined 2, or more than three parts that can be joined 2.

[0041] For each pair of butt-jointed parts 2 joining together, the board 1 includes: - a removable assembly device 3 comprising two assembly elements, including a first element 31, and a second element 32; - locking means 4 of the first element 31 and the second element 32 in an assembled position.

[0042] More generally, each butt joint 2 comprises: - one or two mounting elements 31, 32; - a foam core 21 having a male end 211 for the mounting element or two male ends 211 for the two mounting elements; - a composite material covering 22.

[0043] The 21 foam cores are, for example, made of polystyrene or polyurethane.

[0044] The coating 22 incorporates a matrix, the coating 22 being bonded to the foam core 21 and to the continuous peripheral lip 301 of the mounting element 31, 32.

[0045] According to the present embodiment, the front butt joint 2 comprises a foam core 21 having a single male end 211 and a mounting element, the rear butt joint 2 comprises a foam core 21 having a single male end 211 and a mounting element, and the central butt joint 2 comprises a foam core 21 having two male ends 211 and two mounting elements.

[0046] The two mounting elements presented by the central butt joint 2 are each respectively complementary in assembly to one and / or the other mounting element of the front butt joint 2 and the rear butt joint 2. The mounting element presented by the front butt joint 2 is complementary in assembly to the mounting element presented by the central butt joint 2 at its end directed towards the front of the board 2, and the mounting element presented by the rear butt joint 2 is complementary in assembly to the mounting element presented by the central butt joint 2 at its end directed towards the rear of the board 2.According to this embodiment, the mounting element presented by the front butt joint 2 is also complementary in assembly to the mounting element presented by the central butt joint 2 on its end directed towards the rear of the board 2, and the mounting element presented by the rear butt joint 2 is also complementary in assembly to the mounting element presented by the central butt joint 2 on its end directed towards the front of the board 2.

[0047] It follows from the above that each pair of butt-jointed parts 2 comprises a removable assembly device 3 comprising a first element 31 which is integrated into one of the two butt-jointed parts 2, and a second element 32 which is integrated into the other of the two butt-jointed parts 2.

[0048] This first element 31 and this second element 32 can be assembled in a removable manner.

[0049] With reference to figures 1 to 8, a removable assembly device 3 is described in more detail below.

[0050] Each mounting element 31, 32 includes an interface 302.

[0051] This interface 302 is intended to be in contact with the interface 302 of the other mounting element 31, 32.

[0052] The 302 interface is essentially formed by an element designed to fit the shape of the element forming the other 302 interface.

[0053] The interface 302 thus presents a contact surface 3021, in particular curved, and also presents: - either at least one groove 3022; - or at least one complementary tongue 3023 in assembly with the groove 3022.

[0054] Each mounting element 31, 32 also includes a continuous peripheral lip 301 extending from the interface 302.

[0055] This continuous peripheral lip 301 extends continuously from the periphery of the interface 302, in the opposite direction to the side of the interface 302 which is intended to come into contact with the interface of the other mounting element.

[0056] This continuous peripheral lip 301 has an identical width along its entire length around the perimeter of the interface 302.

[0057] As an indication, the width of the continuous peripheral lip 301 is greater than 5 cm, and is typically around 7 cm.

[0058] With reference to the, for each butt joint 2, the foam core 21 has a shoulder 212 on its male end 211, and the continuous peripheral lip 301 takes place in the shoulder 212.

[0059] As can be seen, the continuous peripheral lip 301 has an external surface 304 to which the coating 22 is bonded. The shoulder 212 and the continuous peripheral lip 301 are configured so that the external surface 304 of the continuous peripheral lip 301 is flush with the external surface 213 of the core 21 which borders the shoulder 212.

[0060] With reference to figures 5 to 7, towards the inside, the continuous peripheral lip 301 provides at least one alveolus 300.

[0061] More specifically, each mounting element 31, 32 includes at least one spacer 305 which extends between the continuous peripheral lip 301 from the interface 302. Each spacer 305 separates two recesses 300.

[0062] The 300 alveoli are intended to house the male ends 211 of the cores, as can be seen on the.

[0063] According to the present embodiment, the interfaces 302 of the first element 31 and the second element 32 adopt a “W” shape between the two lateral edges 11 of the board 1.

[0064] This "W" shape can be seen in particular on plate 1 viewed from below or above.

[0065] The "W" shape has three inflection points and two ends located halfway between the inflection points along the longitudinal axis of board 1. This helps to strengthen the assembly and its resistance.

[0066] With reference to figures 3 and 7, the spacers 305 extend from the interfaces 302 at the inflection points of the "W" shape.

[0067] As mentioned previously, the interface 302 can have either at least one groove 3022, or at least one tongue 3023.

[0068] More specifically, the first element 31 has two tabs 3023.

[0069] These tabs 3023 extend from the contact surface 3021.

[0070] The second element 32, for its part, has two grooves 3022

[0071] These grooves 3022 extend backwards from the contact surface 3021.

[0072] The first element 31 can thus be described as a female element while the second element can be described as a male element.

[0073] The removable assembly made between the two mounting elements corresponds to a joint, or a reversible interlocking.

[0074] These mounting elements 31, 32 are designed to allow engagement and attainment of an assembled position to one another in an assembly and disassembly direction that substantially corresponds to the longitudinal extension direction of board 1.

[0075] According to the present embodiment, the mounting element presented by the front butt joint 2 and the mounting element presented by the rear butt joint 2 are second elements 32, while the two mounting elements presented by the rear butt joint 2 are first elements 31.

[0076] Each mounting element 31, 32 further includes, at the interface 302, a stop 303 projecting from an external surface 304 of the continuous peripheral lip 301 to which the coating 22 is attached.

[0077] This stop 303 is flush with the coating 22. More specifically, the external surface of the stop 303 is flush with the external surface of the coating 22.

[0078] As detailed below, all the stops 303 are flush with the coating 22 following sanding of the coating 22 and the stops 303.

[0079] The mounting elements 21, 33 described above are made of plastic polymer, for example polyamide, and more specifically polyamide 12. These mounting elements 31, 32 advantageously incorporate glass fibers and / or carbon fibers (the latter element integrated into the plastic of the mounting elements having demonstrated the possibility of conferring very good mechanical properties to the mounting elements while reducing the mass of these parts).

[0080] With reference to figures 1, 3 to 7, 9 and 10, the locking means 4 of the first element 31 and the second element 32 in an assembled position are described more precisely thereafter.

[0081] These locking means 4 are divided into two sub-assemblies for each pair of butted parts 2. The two sub-assemblies of the locking means are located on either side of a removable assembly device 3, and in particular on each lateral edge 11 of the board 1.

[0082] A subset is now described.

[0083] A subassembly comprises a male part 41 presented by one of the two mounting elements 31, 32 and a female part 42 presented by the other of the two mounting elements 31, 32.

[0084] A subassembly also includes a pin 43 intended to assemble with the female part 42 and with the male part 41 previously inserted into the female part 42.

[0085] The female part 42 and the male part 41, when the removable assembly device 3 is assembled, together form a passage 44 into which the pin 43 can be inserted.

[0086] The passage 44 is formed by the alignment of holes 410, 420 presented respectively by the male part 41 and by the female part 42. This passage 44 has notches 441 allowing the insertion of the pin 43 with at least one predefined orientation.

[0087] Indeed, the pin 43 has a head and a shank 431 on which lugs 432 protrude, and are complementary in shape to the notches 441 of the passage 44.

[0088] The pin 43 is, in this case, a quarter-turn locking pin. The pin 43 must be aligned with the passage and oriented so that the lugs 432 are also aligned with the notches 441 in the passage. The rod 431 must then be inserted into the passage 44 until the head of the pin 43 is brought to a stop. The stop must then be rotated around the central axis of the rod 431 until it also reaches its stop during this rotation. In this position, the lugs are no longer aligned with the notches 441, and the pin is then locked in position. The pin thus prevents disassembly of the removable assembly device 3.

[0089] With reference to the, coating 22 is described in more detail below.

[0090] As mentioned previously, this coating 22 is made of a composite material and incorporates a matrix. This coating 22 is notably produced by layering a matrix and a resin. The matrix is, in particular, a glass fiber.

[0091] This coating 22 is linked to the foam cores 21 and the continuous peripheral lips 301 of the mounting elements 31, 32.

[0092] The thickness of the coating 22 on the upper and lower faces of the board 1 is greater than that of the coating 22 on the sides of the board 1. This strengthens the bonds established between the coating and the cores as well as with the mounting elements 31, 32. The thickness of the coating 22 can, for example, be 50% or even 100% greater on the upper and lower faces compared to the thickness of the coating at the lateral edges 11.

[0093] The manufacturing process for the water sports board 1 described above is detailed below.

[0094] First, the process includes a manufacturing step for the assembly elements 31, 32, for example by plastic injection.

[0095] The process then includes a step of positioning the male ends 211 in the cavities 300 of the mounting elements 31, 32 of the respective butt-joint parts 2.

[0096] This positioning step can be carried out in two ways.

[0097] According to a first variant of the positioning step, foam blocks are machined so that the cores are pre-formed, then the mounting elements 31, 32 are fitted onto the foam cores 21.

[0098] According to a second preferred variant of the positioning step, the male ends 221 are positioned in the recesses of the mounting elements 31, 32 by being directly formed within them. More precisely, the positioning step is then integrated into a manufacturing step of the foam cores 21 by injecting the foam into molds with overmolding of the mounting elements 31, 32. This allows for a perfect fit between the foam and the plastic parts.

[0099] These variations of the positioning step make it possible to preserve the shoulders 212 at the male ends 211 of the foam cores 21, to fully accommodate the continuous peripheral lips 301 of the mounting elements 31, 32.

[0100] The process includes a step of applying the coating 22 by bonding it to the foam cores 21 and to the continuous peripheral lips 301 of the mounting elements 31, 32 of each buttable part 2.

[0101] This application step is carried out by layering the composite coating comprising layers of glass fibers bonded by resin.

[0102] This coating can be described as a "raw" coating, and the process includes a sanding step to finalize the coating 22.

[0103] As mentioned previously, each mounting element 31, 32 includes, at the interface 302, a stop 303 projecting from an external surface 304 of the continuous peripheral lip 301 to which the coating 22 is attached.

[0104] During the manufacture of the board 1, the stops 303 of the mounting elements have an excess thickness compared to the terminal height of the stop 303 at the end of the manufacturing process.

[0105] The sanding step of the coating 22 thus allows the stops 303 to be sanded after the coating application step 22, so that the stop 303 comes flush with the coating 22.

[0106] To improve the quality of the assemblies, the coating application step 22 and the sanding step are carried out on the assembled board 1.

[0107] Between the positioning step and the application step, the process thus includes an assembly step in which all the buttable parts 2 are assembled by means of the removable assembly device(s) 3, and the mounting elements 31, 32 are locked in the assembled position by means of the locking means.

[0108] In order to prevent the resin of the coating being applied from seeping between the assembled mounting elements, a sealing barrier is then put in place at the interface between the stops 303 of two mounting elements 31, 32 assembled to each other, after the assembly step.

[0109] This sealing barrier is, for example, made using waterproof adhesive tape.

[0110] The sealing barrier is then removed during the sanding stage which allows the stops 303 to be flush with the coating 22 bordering these stops.

[0111] The sports board 1 described above is a board which can be assembled and disassembled quickly, and which performs well when in use, thanks to the quality (rigidity / flexibility ratio) of the connections made between different butt-joint parts 2, and the low added weight provided by the removable assembly devices 3.

[0112] The manufacturing process of plate 1 is simple and efficient in that it allows optimal integration of the assembly devices in plate 1, avoiding excess thickness and misalignment of the butted parts 2.
