Abstract
Description
POWER GENERATION FROM GRAVITY, MASS AND INERTIA BY USING HYDRAULICSFIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of rotational motion of an object. More specifically the invention relates to capturing of unutilized energy, which is exerted towards ground / earth by the weight / mass of the object & virtue of gravity, when the rotational object is in motion, and performing its primary function,BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] While various machines which are performing their primary function, they are bound to generate a particular form of energy, which many times remain uncaptured. Same happens with the machines having rotating elements, like wheels of the vehicles, rollers in a mixing machine, etc. Primary function of these rotating elements is to move the vehicle or mix ingredients, etc. However, while rotating, they may also produce energy like rotational energy, gravitational energy, potential energy, kinetic energy, etc., which generally remains un-captured. For a sustainable ecosystem, it is desired to capture this unutilized energy. Also, such energy captured can be reused by the machines in which the rotating elements are placed OR can be used to operate other machines.
[0003] In vehicles, potential energy, rotation energy and kinetic energy, gravitational energy due to mass of the vehicle, mass of the wheel, and rotation of wheel, remain unutilized, and if captured, can prove to be an alternate source of energy, which shall not just only reduce consumption of the fuel, but also helpful in reducing the pollution. Low usage of the fuel, especially non-renewable fuel, like petrol and diesel, helps to keep a check on natural resource, and saves a huge recurring cost to the user of the vehicle.
[0004] Just to give an example, cars can run on a number of fuel types other than gasoline, such as natural gas, LPG or biofuel or electricity which creates various quantities of atmospheric pollution. These atmospheric pollutions are hazardous in long run. A kilogram of carbon, whether contained in petrol, diesel, kerosene, or any other hydrocarbon fuel in a vehicle, leads to approximately 3.6 kg of CO2 emissions. Due to the carbon content of gasoline, its combustion emits 2.3 kg / 1 (19.4 Ib / US gal) of CO2; since diesel fuel is more energy dense per unit volume, diesel emits 2.6 kg / 1 (22.2 Ib / US gal). This figure is only the CO2 emissions of the final fuel product and does not include additional CO2 emissions created during the drilling, pumping, transportation and refining steps required to produce the fuel. Additional measures to reduce overall emission include improvements to the efficiency of air conditioners, lights and tires.OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The objective of the invention is to capture unutilized energy generated due to mass of the object, gravity and movement of a rotating element which is generally rotated to perform a primary function, like moving an object on wheels, guides for mixing compositions, grinding, etc., and use as an additional energy to assist the same function and improve efficiency of the machine / vehicle / equipment etc.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] The object of the invention is achieved by an arrangement having an apparatus which generates a hydraulic energy while a rotating element is in motion, and the apparatus is physically coupled to the rotating element. The apparatus includes a movement means and a hydraulic means. The movement means can move due to at least inertia caused by motion of the rotating element, acceleration of the rotating element or external force exerted onto the rotating element, due to gravitational force exerted onto the rotating element, or combination thereof. The hydraulic means is in functional coupling to the movement means such that when themovement means moves, the hydraulic means is actuated to enable flow of a working fluid into and out of the apparatus. This embodiment is helpful, as it helps to capture via the apparatus unutilized and residual energy from the rotating element.
[0007] For simple understanding of usage / function of the invention is shown in the Fig 6. Consider a wheel of any vehicle. And the vehicle wheel is made up of numerous number of piston etc, as shown in Fig 6. The pistons are held as shown in the Fig 6 with the spring in piston housing, and due to spring, pistons are always tend to open / extended condition. As wheel rotates pistons will also rotate and when it touches the surface of road / land, the piston will be pressed inside because of the load on the wheel. During this action the oil stored in the piston will be pushed out and can be used to operate hydraulic motor to utilize the energy or stored and / or used as and when required. Again when wheel continues to rotate, next piston will pressed and same action continues. The piston will be extended as soon as it releases / moves up leaving the road / ground, because of the spring. During this operation / action, oil / operating fluid will be sucked inside the piston housing and stored in the piston housing till it touches the road / ground. Again the piston will be pressed as mentioned above, when it touches the ground surface road / land, the sucked oil inside the piston housing will be pushed out and thus cycle continuous. In this, oil pushing is done due to weight / load on the wheel. This is also because of the gravity. The Invention is to make use of this energy, which is generally wasted.

[0027] The best and other modes for carrying out the present invention are presented in terms of the embodiments, herein depicted in Drawings provided. The embodiments are described herein for illustrative purposes and are subject to many variations. It is understood that various omissions and substitutions of equivalents are contemplated as circumstances may suggest or render expedient, but are intended to cover the application or implementation without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention. Further, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of the description and should not be regarded as limiting. Any heading utilized within this description is for convenience only and has no legal or limiting effect.
[0028] The terms “a” and “an” herein do not denote a limitation of quantity, but rather denote the presence of at least one of the referenced item.
[0029] The invention focuses on capturing energy from rotating elements which are part of any machine. These machines and the rotating elements, whileperforming their primary function, generates potential energy, kinetic energy, rotational energy, gravitational energy and other such energy, which remain unutilized.
[0030] The invention is to capture the unutilized / wasted energy during movement / rotation of wheel / drum etc, which carries a load and the gravitational energy will, pulls it down towards earth as known in physics. Fig 1 shows typical parts of the apparatus, the design of parts and configuration can be adopted based on where the apparatus will be applied. Like, any wheels, for two / four / six wheeler wheel etc, Concrete Drum support wheels / bearings, Kiln Support Wheels / bearings, locomotive wheels etc.
[0031] To capture this unutilized energy, an apparatus is provided, which is generally placed in hub of the rotating element, so as to be physically and functionally coupled for capturing the unutilized energy. Fig 1 shows an arrangement 3 comprising an apparatus 1 and a rotating element coupled to the apparatus 1. This apparatus 1 captures the unutilized energy generated by the rotating element, when the rotating element is in motion, and generate it as a hydraulic energy. The apparatus 1 includes a movement means 4 and a hydraulic means 5.
[0032] The physical and functional coupling of the rotating element 2 and the apparatus 1 is such that the movement means 4 moves due to inertia caused by motion of the rotating element 2, and / or acceleration of the rotating element 2, and / or external force exerted onto the rotating element 2, and / or due to gravitational force exerted onto the rotating element 2. When the rotational element 2 is part of a machine, and performing its primary function, it rotates to generate rotational energy, or it’s being exerted with the external force from other elements of the machine, which results in generation of another form of energy. These energies generated are not of much concern to the machine, and remains unutilized. Thephysical and functional coupling between the rotating element 2 and the movement means 4, is provided in such a way that all these unutilized energies are captured.
[0033] The hydraulic means 5 is further in functional coupling to the movement means 4. This functional coupling is such that when the movement means 4 moves, the hydraulic means 5 is actuated and enables flow of a working fluid into and out of the apparatus 1.
[0034] Fig 3 shows typical connection of invention apparatus 1 (which is main part of this patent) with various hydraulic components to utilize the energy generated by this apparatus 1.
[0035] For storing the generated hydraulic energy for a future usage, an energy accumulator 6 is provided in the arrangement 3. The energy accumulator 6 is coupled to the hydraulic means 5 and is in the flow of the working fluid, when the working fluid leaves out the hydraulic means 5 and before the working fluid reenters the hydraulic means 5. The energy accumulator 6 received the working fluid to capture the hydraulic energy born by the working fluid, and store the hydraulic energy. Further, the working fluid is passed onto flow further to complete the flow circuit of the working fluid to the hydraulic means 5. In one embodiment, where the hydraulic energy is utilized right away and no storage of the energy is required for future usage, the energy accumulator 6 is not provided as part of the arrangement 3.
[0036] The arrangement 3 is also provided with a hydraulic motor 7, which receives and allows flow of the working fluid through the hydraulic motor 7, and generates a different form of energy due to the flow of the working fluid. This different form of energy can be electric energy, which can be used to power the machine, if the machine functions from electric power source. This electric energy can also be stored into a battery for later usage. The hydraulic motor 7 is placedahead of the hydraulic means 5 in the flow line of the working fluid, and once the working fluid passes through the hydraulic motor 7, it flows ahead to the hydraulic means 5 to complete the flow circuit of the working fluid. In one embodiment, where the different form of energy is not required and the hydraulic energy can be used directly for either functioning of any elements in the machine, or for any external utilization, the hydraulic motor 7 is not provided as part of the arrangement 3.
[0037] The arrangement 3 also includes a proportional or normal flow control valve 8 is placed before the hydraulic motor 7 in the flow of the working fluid. This helps to control the flow of the working fluid before entering the hydraulic motor 7. It helps to flow the working fluid with requisite pressure as desired by the hydraulic motor 7, which is further based on the different form of energy required by the machine or its components, or storage or charging requirement of an energy source. This valve 8 can be completely closed in case the energy is not required to be sent to hydraulic motor 7. In such case, the flow of the working fluid can be diverted to the energy accumulator 6, from where the working fluid can be directed to the hydraulic means 5 to complete the flow circuit. When the valve 8 is partially opened, the working fluid flow can be partially diverted to the energy accumulator 6, and partially to the hydraulic motor 7, and further the fluid shall be taken ahead to the hydraulic means 5 to complete the flow circuit of the working fluid. In one embodiment, the proportional or flow control valve 8 is not required, and the working fluid can be directly taken ahead to the hydraulic motor 7, as received from the hydraulic means 5.
[0038] The arrangement 3 also includes a safety relief valve 9 which is coupled to the hydraulic means 5. This coupling of safety relief valve 9 and the hydraulic mean 5 is provided in such a way, that it controls the pressure of the flow of the working fluid before it is flown through any of the energy accumulator 6, the hydraulic motor 7, or the proportional or flow control valve 8. In one embodiment, the safety relief valve is placed at any other place in the flow of the working fluid, and the working fluid at least flow from one of the energy accumulator 6, the hydraulic motor 7, or the proportional or flow control valve 8, before the safety relief valve 9 controls the flow of the working fluid.
[0039] The apparatus 1 can also be placed within a wheel hub 11 of a vehicle or a locomotive, as shown in Fig 4. In this embodiment, the energy obtained from the inertia of the vehicle’s motion that is exerted on the ground due to gravitational force and its weight is converted to hydraulic power and can be used as required. The entire apparatus 1 is housed in the wheel hub 11. The apparatus 1 includes a set of pistons 10 radially which are placed with respect to the wheel hub 11 of the rotating element 2 (not shown in figure). The wheel is placed onto the wheel hub 11, and the apparatus 1 is placed within the wheel hub 11. The pistons 10 move linearly, when the wheel is in motion. Due to this movement, and flow of working fluid within the apparatus 1 is activated which allows the working fluid to flow in and out of the apparatus 1.
[0040] The radial movement of the pistons 10 is due to eccentricity 15. This concept with eccentricity works also as suspension along with other external conventional shock absorber of vehicle.
[0041] The apparatus 1 also includes a piston holder 12 having a plurality of radial slots 13 for holding the pistons 10. The slots 13 enables a proper radial movement of the pistons 10 linearly within the radial slots 13. When the wheel is in motion, it also rotates the piston holder 12, and which further rotates the pistons 10 too.
[0042] The apparatus 1 also includes an outer casing 14 which connects to a drum of the wheel, such that it will rotate along with the wheel. The purpose of this outer casing 14 is to provide support to the pistons 10 which are in motion during rotation. The piston holder 12 will be connected to the outer casing 14.
[0043] There will be number of pistons 10 in the design, however preferred number of pistons 10 would be in odd numbers such as five, seven, nine, etc. to maintain balance and are placed in radial slots 13 provided in the piston holder 12.
[0044] Number of pistons 10 can be even numbers also, only to make sure the pressure balancing is managed.
[0045] The apparatus 1 also includes a piston housing 16 which can be designed based on the vehicle size, i.e. single row of pistons 10 or multiple rows of pistons 10. The piston housing 16 is assembled on wheel hub 11 along with bearing 17, which also rotates along with the wheel on bearing 17. The pistons 10 moves linearly for suction and delivery function to enable flow of the working fluid. The wheel hub 11 remains stationary and is connected to axle of the vehicle.
[0046] In an alternate embodiment, the outer casing 14 and piston holder 12 are connected and in turn are eccentric to a center line of the wheel hub 11.
[0047] When this apparatus 1 is implemented on non-drive wheel of the vehicle, these wheels rotates only because other wheels (driver wheels) rotated. And this apparatus can be functionally coupled directly / parallel to the engine propeller for energizing the propeller. When the outer casing 14 and the piston holder 12 rotates, the pistons 10 are also pulled and these pistons 10 pull and rotates the piston housing 16.
[0048] When this apparatus 1 is implemented on driver wheels, the pistons 10 will transmit motion to the wheels and the pistons 10 will work as spokes of the wheels. Because of the eccentricity 15, the pistons 10 move in and out. The piston movement causes working fluid suction through a suction port 18 and working fluid delivery through a delivery port 19 during rotation.
[0049] All or some elements of the arrangement as illustrated in Fig 3 can also be provided for the vehicle, into whose wheel hub 11 the apparatus 1 is placed. The signal for proportional valve can be given by accelerator of the vehicle. The hydraulic motor can be connected in parallel or in series to propeller shaft of the vehicle. The apparatus 1 can also be connected to an electric generator and can be used as battery charger for hybrid vehicles. However, flow of the working fluid shall be dependent on speed of the vehicle, hence constant flow and pressure may not be expected. The pressure of the working fluid will be dependent on the vehicle weight. And, to suite requirement of particular vehicle, the apparatus 1 can be designed for different range of vehicles.
[0050] The working fluid from its storage tank is sucked into the apparatus 1 when wheel rotates and the same working fluid is pumped out of the apparatus 1 due to the movement of pistons and with pressure developed because of the weight / gravitational force. The delivery of the working fluid can be fed to the energy accumulator as energy storage. The safety relief valve can be provided to take care of over pressurizing in the arrangement. The stored pressurized fluid in the energy accumulator can be used based on the vehicle speed. The working fluid is fed into the flow circuit of the arrangement through a proportional / normal flow control valve. The proportional / normal valve can be linked to vehicle accelerator and opened accordingly. Based on the flow from proportional / normal flow control valve, the hydraulic motor will rotate and transfer the torque to vehicle propeller shaft or generator. Outlet of hydraulic motor can be connected back to working fluid tank through filter. The purpose of the filter is to keep hydraulic fluid clean. Pressure transducers can also be provided which can assist in monitoring stored pressure details and use this stored energy in parallel with engine (Option 1) / battery (in case of electric vehicle) (Option 2).
[0051] Thus, this apparatus 1 will reduce load on engine / battery and the vehicle will consume less fuel. It is also possible that, the size of the engine / battery can also be reduced, as they will be getting supported by this apparatus 1. Hence fuel consumption will be less in the vehicle and the vehicle will give higher mileage at less fuel / cost.
[0052] In alternation to the constant flow control using accumulator and proportional valve, for simple applications, the working fluid flow from the apparatus can be directly connected to a motor which is connected to the drive wheel (Option 1) or generator (Option 2) to generate desired power for functioning of the drive wheel.
[0053] The working fluid used can be oil, water or even pneumatic / air. However, any other hydraulic fluid can work, which can maintain the flow required for functioning of the apparatus 1.
[0054] This apparatus can be implemented into any machines wherein weight is exerted on a rotating element, or where gravity pull is available. The energy from the external weight, and the gravity can be converted into useful energy.
[0055] Fig 5 illustrates a rotatory system of rolling elements 2. In this rotatory system, two of the rotating elements comprises the apparatus 1 , while one of the rotating element 2 exerts weight onto the rotating elements 2 having the apparatuses 1 implemented within them. The rotating elements 2 having the apparatuses 2 generates the hydraulic energy. Due to the exerted weight, the rotating elements 2 having the apparatuses 1 rotates, such that the apparatuses are actuates to generated flow of the working fluid, and generates the hydraulic energy. This embodiment can be implemented in fly wheels, drum operations, concrete mixer, cement kilns etc. The weight of these drums will be supported by rollers, the weight on these rollers will be exerted and can be used to convert this into useful energy.REFERENCE NUMERALS1 apparatus2 rotating element3 arrangement4 movement means5 hydraulic means6 energy accumulator7 hydraulic motor8 proportional or flow control valve9 safety relief valve10 piston11 wheel hub12 piston holder13 radial slots14 outer casing of the apparatus15 eccentricity16 piston housing17 bearing18 suction port19 delivery port20 external force
