Description

Technical Field

[0001] This invention belongs to the field of polymer materials, and specifically relates to a water-based polymeric cold-mix sealant for road maintenance. Background Technology

[0002] During use, highways (including asphalt concrete pavement and cement concrete pavement) are inevitably subject to various types of cracks (such as thermal shrinkage cracks, reflective cracks, fatigue cracks, etc.) due to the combined effects of traffic load, changes in ambient temperature (thermal expansion and contraction), water erosion, and material aging. If these cracks are not repaired in a timely and effective manner, water will continue to penetrate into the pavement structure and subgrade, leading to the following problems: (1) Softening of the base layer and reduction in bearing capacity: Water erodes the subgrade and base layer materials, causing a decrease in structural strength; (2) Pothole formation: Under the combined action of traffic load and water, the material at the edge of the crack accelerates peeling and loosening, eventually developing into potholes; (3) Frost heave damage (cold regions): The infiltrated water freezes and expands in winter, exacerbating crack expansion and pavement uplift damage; (4) Accelerated overall pavement damage: Cracks are the starting point and accelerator of pavement damage, significantly shortening the service life of the road and increasing the cost of major and medium repairs in the later stages.

[0003] Therefore, timely, efficient, and durable sealing of cracks is a key aspect of preventive maintenance for highways, and is crucial for extending road life, ensuring driving safety and comfort, and reducing total life-cycle costs.

[0004] Currently, commonly used crack sealing materials mainly fall into the following categories, but all of them have varying degrees of defects:

[0005] 1) Hot asphalt / modified hot asphalt has the following problems: (1) High energy consumption: It requires continuous high temperature (usually >160°C) heating and melting, consuming a lot of fuel; (2) Safety hazards: High temperature operation is prone to burns and fire risks, generates harmful smoke, and the construction environment is harsh; (3) Performance limitations: It is brittle at room temperature, easily softens and flows at high temperature, has poor elastic recovery, and its adhesion to crack walls is easily affected by aging, resulting in limited durability, especially in areas with large temperature differences; (4) Low construction efficiency: The heating time is long and the curing is slow, affecting the opening time of traffic.

[0006] 2) Solvent-based grouting adhesives have the following problems: (1) Poor environmental performance: They contain a large amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which release harmful gases during production and construction, pollute the environment, endanger the health of construction workers, and do not meet the increasingly strict environmental protection regulations; (2) Flammable and explosive: Most solvents are flammable, and the storage and transportation risks are high; (3) High shrinkage rate: The colloid shrinks significantly after the solvent evaporates, which may cause it to detach from the crack wall and form a new water seepage channel; (4) Long-term performance is questionable: The solvent may leave pores after evaporation, affecting the long-term sealing effect and durability.

[0007] 3) Emulsified asphalt materials have the following problems: (1) Low early strength and slow opening to traffic: Demulsification and curing takes a long time (usually several hours or even longer), during which they are easily carried away or contaminated by wheels; (2) Insufficient adhesion and elasticity: They are usually plastic bodies with insufficient flexibility, poor room temperature crack resistance and high temperature stability, and are difficult to adapt to the dynamic changes of cracks; (3) Limited durability: Water resistance and anti-aging performance are often not as good as polymer materials.

[0008] With increasing global emphasis on environmental protection, construction safety, and energy conservation, and the transformation of highway maintenance towards "green maintenance," "efficient maintenance," and "preventive maintenance," the market demand for high-performance, environmentally friendly road maintenance materials has grown dramatically. Developing a water-based polymer cold-mix sealant that truly combines excellent road performance (high-strength adhesion, superior high-temperature stability, high elastic recovery, excellent water resistance, and long-lasting durability) with outstanding environmental advantages (low VOC / zero VOC, no irritating odor, and non-flammable) and convenient application (cold-mix application at room temperature, moderate curing speed, and rapid reopening to traffic) has become an urgent industry need and a key direction for technological development. Summary of the Invention

[0009] The purpose of this invention is to address the problems of existing road surface applications, such as easy peeling, flaking, low early strength, and slow traffic opening, by providing a water-based polymer cold-mix sealant for highway maintenance.

[0010] To achieve the above objectives, the present invention adopts the following technical solution: a water-based polymeric cold-mixed crack sealant for highway maintenance, wherein the water-based polymeric cold-mixed crack sealant is made by mixing two components, A and B, wherein component A includes: unsaturated water-based epoxy resin, unsaturated rubber-modified emulsified asphalt, filler, oxidant and antioxidant, and component B includes: reducing agent, water-based epoxy curing agent, accelerator and unsaturated rubber-modified emulsified asphalt.

[0011] Furthermore, the unsaturated waterborne epoxy resin is prepared by the following steps: epoxy resin and reactive diluent are put into a stirred reactor, heated and then alkyleneamine, antioxidant and anti-ultraviolet agent are added to react, then cooled to room temperature, acetic acid is added, and then deionized water is added under high speed stirring to obtain a uniform white liquid, thus obtaining the unsaturated waterborne epoxy resin.

[0012] Furthermore, the reactive diluent is a double-bond epoxy diluent, and the alkyleneamine is a hexadecyleneamine, octadecyleneamine, eicosyleneamine, or dodecyleneamine.

[0013] Furthermore, the waterborne epoxy curing agent is prepared by the following steps: epoxy resin is put into a stirred reactor, heated and then long-chain diamine is added dropwise, followed by heat preservation reaction, then cooled to room temperature, acetic acid is added, and then deionized water is added to obtain the waterborne epoxy curing agent.

[0014] Furthermore, the long-chain diamine is either decanediamine or dodecanediamine.

[0015] Furthermore, the epoxy resin is a bisphenol A type epoxy resin with an epoxy value of 0.38–0.56 eq / 100g.

[0016] Furthermore, the unsaturated rubber modified emulsified asphalt is SBS modified emulsified asphalt, SBR modified emulsified asphalt, or CR modified emulsified asphalt.

[0017] Furthermore, the filler is talc, silica powder, or kaolin; the oxidant is cumene hydroperoxide, tert-butyl hydroperoxide, tert-butyl peroxide, dicumene peroxide, or di-tert-butyl peroxide.

[0018] Furthermore, the antioxidant is pentaerythritol tetrakis[β-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate], octadecyl β-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, 1,1,3-tris(2-methyl-4-hydroxy-5-tert-butylphenyl)butane, 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol, or dilaurate thiodipropionate; the UV stabilizer is 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy Benzophenone, 2,2'-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone, 2-hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone, 2-hydroxybenzoic acid-4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)phenyl ester, n-octylphenyl salicylate, 2'-(2'-hydroxy-3'-tert-butyl-5'-methylphenyl)-5-chlorobenzotriazole or 2'-(2′-hydroxy-3′,5′-di-tert-butylphenyl)-5-chlorobenzotriazole.

[0019] Furthermore, the reducing agent is cobalt naphthenate, N,N-dimethylaniline, or copper isooctanoate; the accelerator is a tertiary amine accelerator.

[0020] Advantages of this invention: Water-based polymeric cold-mix crack sealant for highway maintenance.

[0021] (1) Compared with solvent-based binders currently used in the market, the water-based polymer cold-mix sealant for highway maintenance of the present invention has the advantages of being non-toxic, non-flammable, safe to use, and environmentally friendly.

[0022] (2) Compared with the water-based polymer cold-mixed sealant currently used in the market for highway maintenance, the water-based polymer cold-mixed sealant of the present invention has the advantages of high adhesion, water resistance and aging resistance.

[0023] (3) This invention comprehensively considers the requirements of using water-based polymer cold-mixed crack sealant for road maintenance as a pavement substrate. It forms an oxidation-reduction free radical polymerization initiation system by unsaturated water-based epoxy resin and unsaturated rubber modified emulsified asphalt under the action of oxidants and reducers, so that the unsaturated double bonds can be cured at room temperature. The epoxy groups in the water-based epoxy resin and the amino groups in the water-based epoxy curing agent can also be cured at room temperature. Therefore, after the A and B components are mixed, the system can undergo a double curing reaction, which improves the crosslinking degree of the cured product and forms an interpenetrating network structure. This improves the cohesive strength, adhesion, water resistance and other properties of the cured product of water-based polymer cold-mixed crack sealant for road maintenance, and meets the requirements of water-based polymer cold-mixed crack sealant for road maintenance under different conditions.

[0024] (4) The sealant of the present invention utilizes a redox system to initiate free radical polymerization and epoxy-amine curing, which can be carried out simultaneously and rapidly at room temperature. The dual curing reaction significantly improves the early strength formation rate, enabling the cured sealant to withstand traffic loads more quickly. Compared with traditional materials that require heating or have slow curing, this greatly shortens the road closure maintenance time, significantly improves maintenance efficiency, and reduces traffic disruption.

[0025] (5) The formulation design of this invention takes into account low-temperature operability. On the one hand, the water-based system (unsaturated water-based epoxy resin, water-based epoxy curing agent, and rubber-modified emulsified asphalt) avoids the high viscosity and poor dispersion problems of solvent-based materials at low temperatures. On the other hand, the carefully selected long-chain alkyleneamine (used to prepare unsaturated water-based epoxy resin) and long-chain diamine (used to prepare water-based epoxy curing agent) help to lower the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the system and improve the flexibility and activity of the molecular chains at lower temperatures. This allows components A and B to maintain good mixing fluidity, wetting and reactivity at lower ambient temperatures (such as 5-15℃ or even lower), achieving effective curing and broadening the suitable temperature range for construction, especially suitable for emergency curing in early spring, late autumn or winter when the temperature is low. [0108] Preparation of water-based polymeric cold-mix grout for S5 highway maintenance

[0109] 100 parts by mass of component A obtained from S3 above, 10 parts by mass of component A obtained from S3 above, 30 parts by mass of deionized water, and 1 part by mass of water-based defoamer are added into a stirred reactor and stirred evenly at room temperature to obtain water-based polymeric cold-mix sealant for highway maintenance.

[0110] The performance test results of the water-based polymer cold-mix sealant for highway maintenance after curing are shown in Table 1:

[0111] Table 1

[0112] Test Project Softening point / °C Crack resistance at -40℃ Water absorption rate / % Pull-out strength / MPa Tensile strength / MPa / MPa Example 1 121 No cracking 2.2 1.9 4.8 Example 2 195 No cracking 2.6 1.6 4.5 Example 3 198 No cracking 2.4 1.8 4.6 Comparative Example 1 85 cracking 7.8 0.7 1.8 Comparative Example 2 90 cracking 6.9 0.8 2.1

[0113] As shown in Table 1, after curing, the softening point, crack resistance at -40℃, water absorption, pull-out strength, and tensile strength of the water-based polymer cold-mix crack sealant for highway maintenance are significantly improved compared to Comparative Example 1. This is because the unsaturated water-based epoxy resin and unsaturated rubber-modified emulsified asphalt form an oxidation-reduction free radical polymerization initiation system under the action of oxidants and reducers, allowing the unsaturated double bonds to cure at room temperature. The epoxy groups in the water-based epoxy resin and the amino groups in the water-based epoxy curing agent can also cure at room temperature. Therefore, after mixing components A and B, the system can undergo a double curing reaction, increasing the crosslinking degree of the cured product and forming an interpenetrating network structure. This improves the cohesive strength, adhesion, water resistance, and other properties of the cured water-based polymer cold-mix crack sealant for highway maintenance, meeting the requirements for use under different conditions.

[0114] Component A obtained in Example 1 is as follows Figure 1 As shown, component B is as follows Figure 2 As shown, they all exhibit good stability; Figure 3 This is the condition of the sample from Example 1 after one year of application to the road surface. Figure 4This is the condition of the sample from Comparative Example 1 after one year of application to the road surface. Compared to Example 1, the epoxy in Comparative Example 1 did not introduce double bonds, resulting in poorer cohesive strength, adhesion, and water resistance, leading to cracking after one year. This demonstrates the excellent application effect of the water-based polymeric cold-mix crack sealant for highway maintenance of the present invention.

[0115] The water-based polymeric cold-mix crack sealant of this invention for highway maintenance has excellent performance, good system compatibility, high production efficiency, is easy to industrialize, and has a wide range of applications. The entire process does not release any toxic solvents, making it a non-toxic, pollution-free, and environmentally friendly water-based polymeric cold-mix crack sealant.

[0116] The above description is merely a preferred embodiment of the present invention and is not intended to limit the invention. Various modifications and variations can be made to the present invention by those skilled in the art. Any modifications, equivalent substitutions, improvements, etc., made within the spirit and principles of the present invention should be included within the scope of protection of the present invention.
