Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a self-closing cartridge for a sanitary fitting and a sanitary fitting with a self-closing cartridge. Sanitary fittings are used in particular for the on-demand dispensing of a liquid, in particular water, to a sink, washbasin, shower, and / or bathtub.

[0002] The self-closing cartridge (also known as a self-closing valve) is a component used in plumbing fixtures to control fluid flow. The purpose of the self-closing cartridge is to automatically stop the flow of fluid once a preset time has elapsed. This is primarily intended to save water and / or improve hygiene. Setting the time requires mechanical adjustment by replacing components of the self-closing cartridge. This results in significant disassembly and assembly effort. Furthermore, the components required to adjust the time must be retained by the user for extended periods.

[0003] The object of the invention is therefore to at least partially solve the problems described with reference to the prior art and, in particular, to provide a self-closing cartridge whose running time can be adjusted with little effort. Furthermore, a sanitary fitting with a self-closing cartridge whose running time can be adjusted with little effort is to be provided.

[0004] These objects are achieved with a self-closing cartridge and a sanitary fitting according to the features of the independent patent claims. Further advantageous embodiments of the invention are specified in the dependent patent claims. It should be noted that the features listed individually in the dependent patent claims can be combined with one another in any technologically expedient manner and define further embodiments of the invention. Furthermore, the features listed in the patent claims are further specified and explained in the description, with further preferred embodiments of the invention being presented.

[0005] A self-closing cartridge for a sanitary fitting contributes to this, which has at least the following: - a cartridge housing with a piston chamber; - an actuating element for opening the self-closing cartridge; - a piston which is adjustable by the actuating element in the piston chamber along a piston stroke from a closed position to an open position and by at least one spring from the open position to the closed position; and - an adjusting element for adjusting a length of the piston stroke, wherein the adjusting element is arranged outside the piston chamber.

[0006] The sanitary fitting serves, for example, to provide a liquid, in particular water, to a sink, a washbasin, a shower, and / or a bathtub. The sanitary fitting has a fitting housing, which is preferably made at least partially of (cast) metal, such as brass, and / or plastic. The fitting housing can have an outlet that is rigidly or movably attached to the fitting housing, in particular pivotably and / or at least partially extendably. The fitting housing and / or the outlet can have at least one outlet opening for the liquid. The liquid can be released, in particular, into the area surrounding the sanitary fitting via the at least one outlet opening. The fitting housing can be attached, in particular, to a support, such as a worktop, a vanity unit, the sink, or the washbasin. For this purpose, the support can have a mounting opening into which the valve housing can be inserted with a mounting section or a shaft and / or to which the valve housing can be fastened with a fastening element, for example in the manner of a fastening nut.

[0007] The sanitary fitting can have a mixing valve for mixing cold water and hot water to form mixed water with a desired mixed water temperature. The mixing valve is arranged in particular in the fitting housing. The cold water can be supplied to the mixing valve in particular via a cold water pipe and the hot water via a hot water pipe. The cold water can have a cold water temperature that is in particular a maximum of 25 °C (Celsius), preferably 1 °C to 25 °C, particularly preferably 5 °C to 20 °C. The hot water can have a hot water temperature that is in particular a maximum of 90 °C, preferably 25 °C to 90 °C, particularly preferably 55 °C to 65 °C.

[0008] The self-closing cartridge controls the flow of fluid through the sanitary fitting or the dispensing of fluid through the sanitary fitting. In particular, the self-closing cartridge allows the fluid to be dispensed with a predefined flow time or dispensing duration. This can mean, in particular, that the self-closing cartridge closes automatically after the predefined flow time has elapsed. The self-closing cartridge can be arranged at least partially within the fitting housing of the sanitary fitting.

[0009] The self-closing cartridge has a cartridge housing. The cartridge housing can be made at least partially of plastic and / or metal, such as brass. The cartridge housing can be at least partially tubular and / or cylindrical. The cartridge housing can consist of a plurality of housing parts. For example, the cartridge housing can comprise a first housing part, a second housing part, a third housing part, and / or a nut with which the self-closing cartridge or the cartridge housing is fastened to the fitting housing. The self-closing cartridge and / or the cartridge housing can extend along a, in particular straight, longitudinal axis, for example from a first longitudinal end to a second longitudinal end. The cartridge housing or the self-closing cartridge can be arranged, in particular with the first longitudinal end, on a cartridge seat of the fitting housing.A piston chamber is formed in the cartridge housing. The piston chamber can extend along the longitudinal axis and / or be formed coaxially to the longitudinal axis. The piston chamber can have a round cross-section, in particular orthogonal to the longitudinal axis. The piston chamber can be formed in the region of the first longitudinal end of the self-closing cartridge and / or of the cartridge housing. The piston chamber can be delimited by a peripheral wall of the cartridge housing, extending in particular around the longitudinal axis, and / or (in the region of the first longitudinal end) by an end wall of the cartridge housing. The end wall of the cartridge housing can be designed to be liquid-tight.

[0010] The self-closing cartridge has an actuating element for opening the self-closing cartridge. The actuating element can be actuated or pressed by a user of the self-closing cartridge or the sanitary fitting to open the self-closing cartridge. When the self-closing cartridge is open, the self-closing cartridge allows the liquid to flow through the self-closing cartridge, the outlet of the fitting housing of the sanitary fitting and / or the outlet opening of the fitting housing of the sanitary fitting. The actuating element can be designed as an actuating button. The actuating element can be at least partially tubular, pot-shaped and / or bowl-shaped. The actuating element can be attached to the cartridge housing and / or arranged at least partially outside the cartridge housing. The actuating element can be arranged coaxially to the longitudinal axis and / or adjustable parallel to the longitudinal axis during its actuation. When the actuating element is actuated, the actuating element is adjustable, in particular, in the direction of the cartridge housing and / or relative to the cartridge housing. The actuating element is accessible and operable by a user from outside the sanitary fitting after the self-closing cartridge has been installed in the sanitary fitting and / or when the self-closing cartridge is in an operational state in the sanitary fitting.

[0011] The self-closing cartridge has a piston that can be adjusted in the piston chamber along a piston stroke between a closed position and an open position. The piston stroke is the travel of the piston in the piston chamber. The piston can have an outer diameter, in particular orthogonal to the longitudinal axis, that (substantially) corresponds to an inner diameter of the piston chamber. The piston stroke can run parallel to the longitudinal axis and / or the piston can be adjustable within the piston chamber parallel to the longitudinal axis between the closed position and the open position. The piston can be arranged coaxially to the longitudinal axis in the piston chamber. The self-closing cartridge is normally closed, so that the piston is normally in its closed position. In the closed position, the piston prevents the flow of the liquid through the sanitary fitting or the discharge of the liquid through the sanitary fitting. In particular, in the closed position, the piston closes a main fluid path for the fluid or a main fluid channel for the fluid in the cartridge housing.

[0012] The piston can be adjusted by the actuating element from the closed position to the open position and / or towards the open position. The piston can be adjusted in particular by pressing the actuating element from the closed position to the open position. When the piston is adjusted towards the open position, the piston is moved in particular towards the first longitudinal end of the self-closing cartridge or the cartridge housing. In the open position, the self-closing cartridge and / or the main fluid path in the cartridge housing is at least partially open so that the fluid can flow through the self-closing cartridge or the fluid can be dispensed through the sanitary fitting. The adjustment of the piston into the open position or towards the open position can occur counter to the force of at least one spring. The piston can be connected to the actuating element via a connecting element. The connecting element can be, for example, a bolt, a pin, or a rod. The connecting element can extend at least partially parallel and / or coaxially to the longitudinal axis. The connecting element can be arranged at least partially within the cartridge housing.

[0013] The piston can be (automatically) adjusted by the at least one spring from the open position to the closed position or towards the closed position when the actuating element is no longer actuated or pressed by the user. The at least one spring can be a coil spring, for example. When the piston is adjusted towards the closed position, the piston is moved in particular in the direction of the second longitudinal end of the self-closing cartridge or the cartridge housing. In the closed position, the self-closing cartridge and / or the main fluid path in the cartridge housing is closed, so that the fluid cannot flow through the self-closing cartridge or the fluid cannot be dispensed through the sanitary fitting. A closing movement of the piston, i.e. the adjustment of the piston towards the closed position, is braked, for example mechanically and / or hydraulically. In particular, this can mean that the piston can be moved into or toward the closed position at a slower speed than without braking or than would be the case if the piston were free to move in the piston chamber. The flow time of the fluid after the self-closing cartridge is opened depends on the length of the piston stroke, or the distance the piston must travel from the open position to the closed position.

[0014] The self-closing cartridge has an adjusting element for adjusting the length of the piston stroke. The adjusting element can be designed as a screw drive and / or a sleeve. The adjusting element can be used to adjust the length of the piston stroke, i.e. the distance that the piston has to travel between the open position and the closed position or the piston from the open position to the closed position. The piston stroke can be adjusted, for example, between 1 mm [millimeter] and 20 mm. The piston stroke can be measured parallel to the longitudinal axis. By adjusting the length of the piston stroke, the running time of the liquid can be adjusted. Reducing the length of the piston stroke leads to a reduction in the running time and increasing the length of the piston stroke leads to an increase in the running time. The adjusting element can be used to adjust the running time of the liquid, i.e.The time within which the self-closing cartridge closes automatically can be adjusted, for example, from 5 seconds to 60 seconds. The adjustment element is located outside the piston chamber. This makes it easier for the user to access, allowing the running time to be adjusted with less effort. In particular, the adjustment element can be located in a non-liquid-carrying area of the self-closing cartridge. This eliminates the need to interrupt the liquid supply to adjust the running time.

[0015] The adjusting element can be arranged on an outer side of the cartridge housing. This can mean, in particular, that the adjusting element is accessible and operable by the user without opening and / or dismantling the cartridge housing. The adjusting element can be arranged on the outer side of the cartridge housing in such a way that, after the self-closing cartridge has been installed on the sanitary fitting, the adjusting element is accessible and operable by the user from outside the sanitary fitting. The adjusting element can be arranged on the second longitudinal end of the cartridge housing on the outer side of the cartridge housing. In particular, the adjusting element can be arranged on the outer side of the nut of the cartridge housing. The adjusting element can be arranged coaxially to the longitudinal axis. The adjusting element can be annular and / or designed as a rotary handle.

[0016] The adjustment element can be arranged between the cartridge housing and the actuating element. The adjustment element can be arranged at least partially below the actuating element. The actuating element can be adjustable relative to the adjustment element when opening and / or closing the self-closing cartridge. The further the adjustment element is adjusted toward the actuating element, the shorter the piston stroke becomes. The further the adjustment element is adjusted away from the actuating element, the longer the piston stroke becomes.

[0017] The piston stroke can be continuously adjusted using the adjustment element. This allows the running time of the self-closing cartridge to be continuously adjusted.

[0018] The adjustment element can be designed as a nut. The adjustment element can be connected to the cartridge housing via a thread. The adjustment element can have a connection geometry for a wrench or open-end wrench. The adjustment element can have knurling, which facilitates manual adjustment.

[0019] In the open position of the piston, the actuating element can contact the adjusting element. The adjusting element can have a locking surface for the actuating element. In the closed position of the self-closing cartridge, the distance between the locking surface and the actuating element can be adjustable. The locking surface can limit the travel of the actuating element or the length of the travel of the actuating element. In the open position of the self-closing cartridge or the piston, the locking surface can block (further) movement of the actuating element toward the cartridge housing.

[0020] The adjustment element can be at least partially covered by a cover. The cover can be at least partially tubular or annular. The cover can extend around the adjustment element and / or at least partially surround the adjustment element. The cover can be arranged coaxially with the longitudinal axis. The cover prevents the user from inadvertently adjusting the adjustment element and thus the flow time of the fluid.

[0021] The cover can be at least partially adjustable into the actuating element. This allows the adjustment element to be at least partially released, so that the adjustment element can be actuated by the user. The cover can be adjusted parallel to the longitudinal axis and / or against a spring, in particular a helical spring. The spring can reset the cover to a covering position.

[0022] The piston chamber may have at least one inflow channel. The fluid can flow into the piston chamber via the at least one inflow channel, particularly when the piston is moved toward the closed position. The at least one inflow channel may have a flow cross-section of, for example, less than 5 mm 2 [square millimeters]. The at least one inflow channel can be designed such that a flow resistance of the at least one inflow channel slows the flow of fluid into the piston chamber and thus reduces the piston speed during movement toward the closed position. The at least one inflow channel can have a throttle for the fluid.

[0023] The piston chamber may have at least one outflow channel. The fluid can flow out of the piston chamber via the at least one outflow channel when the piston is moved to the open position.

[0024] Following a further aspect, a sanitary fitting is also proposed which has at least the following: - a valve body; and - a self-closing cartridge as described here.

[0025] For further details on the sanitary fitting, please refer to the description of the self-closing cartridge.

[0026] The invention and the technical environment are explained in more detail below with reference to the figures. It should be noted that the invention is not intended to be limited by the exemplary embodiment cited. In particular, unless explicitly stated otherwise, it is also possible to extract partial aspects of the facts explained in the figure and combine them with other components and findings from the present description. In particular, it should be noted that the figures, and in particular the proportions shown, are only schematic. They show: Fig. 1: a sanitary fitting with a closed self-closing cartridge in a longitudinal section; and Fig. 2: the sanitary fitting with an open self-closing cartridge in the longitudinal section.

[0027] Fig. 1 shows a sanitary fitting 2 in a longitudinal section. The sanitary fitting 2 has a fitting housing 18 with an outlet 19 having an outlet opening 20. A self-closing cartridge 1 is arranged in the fitting housing 18. The self-closing cartridge 1 extends along a longitudinal axis 21 and has a cartridge housing 3. The self-closing cartridge 1 sits with a first longitudinal end 22 on a cartridge seat 24 of the sanitary fitting 2 or the fitting housing 18.

[0028] The fitting housing 18 comprises a liquid inlet 25 for a liquid. The liquid inlet 25 is formed on a shaft 26 of the fitting housing 18, onto which a fastening nut 27 for fastening the sanitary fitting 2 to a support (not shown here) can be screwed. The liquid can flow from the liquid inlet 25 past the first longitudinal end 22 of the self-closing cartridge 1 into an annular chamber 28 of the fitting housing 18. For this purpose, the cartridge housing 3 has ribs on the first longitudinal end 22, which Fig. 1 are not visible. The annular chamber 28 extends around the cartridge housing 3 of the self-closing cartridge 1.

[0029] The cartridge housing 3 comprises, for example, a first housing part 40, a second housing part 41, a third housing part 42 and a nut 43, with which the cartridge housing 3 is fastened to the fitting housing 18. The first housing part 40 is cup-shaped, the second housing part 41 is at least partially tubular and the third housing part 42 is designed in the manner of a lid. A piston chamber 4 is formed in the cartridge housing 3, in which a piston 6 moves along a piston stroke 7 between a Fig. 1 shown closed position 8 and one in Fig. 2 shown open position 9. In the closed position 8, the piston 6 closes a Fig. 2, so that no liquid can flow from the annular chamber 28 through the self-closing cartridge 1 to the outlet opening 20 of the fitting housing 18. The piston 6 has a first seal 33 in the form of an O-ring to close the main fluid path 31. The main fluid path 31 extends from inlet openings 29 of the cartridge housing 3 through the cartridge housing 3 to outlet openings 32 of the cartridge housing 3. The inlet openings 29 and the outlet openings 32 are formed on a circumferential surface 30 of the cartridge housing 3. The inlet openings 29 are arranged in the region of the annular chamber 28 and the outlet openings 32 are arranged in the region of the outlet 19.

[0030] The piston chamber 4 has inflow channels 16 for the fluid, which connect the piston chamber 4 to the annular chamber 28. The inflow channels 16 extend from the inlet openings 29 through the piston 6 into the piston chamber 4. The inflow channels 16 are always open, regardless of the position of the piston 6 along the piston stroke 7. In the closed position 8, the fluid pressure of the fluid in the piston chamber 4 is equal to the fluid pressure of the fluid in the annular chamber 28 or a line pressure of the fluid. In the closed position 8, an ambient pressure prevails in the outlet 19.

[0031] The piston chamber 4 has outflow channels 17 for the liquid, which connect the piston chamber 4 with the outlet 19 or the outlet opening 20. The outflow channels 17 extend from the piston chamber 4 through the piston 6 to the outlet openings 32 of the self-closing cartridge 1. The outflow channels 17 are in Fig. 1. The outflow channels 17 can run parallel to the longitudinal axis 21 through the piston 6 and / or be formed as grooves in the piston 6. In the closed position 8, the outflow channels 17 are closed, so that no liquid can flow from the piston chamber 4 via the outflow channels 17 to the outlet openings 32.

[0032] The piston 6 is connected via a connecting element 34 to an actuating element 5 of the self-closing cartridge 1. The connecting element 34 is designed as a bolt. The connecting element 34 has a second seal 35, which closes the outflow channels 17 of the piston chamber 4 in the closed position 8. The actuating element 5 is an actuating button, which here is cup-shaped or bowl-shaped. The actuating element 5 is arranged on a second longitudinal end 23 of the self-closing cartridge 1 or the cartridge housing 2. The self-closing cartridge 1 can be opened by a user of the sanitary fitting 2 via the actuating element 5. By actuating or pressing the actuating element 5, the piston 6 is moved parallel to the longitudinal axis 21 along the piston stroke 7 from the closed position 8 into the Fig. 2 shown open position 9 adjustable.

[0033] When opening the self-closing cartridge 1 or when operating or pressing the actuating element 5, the second seal 35 of the connecting element 34 is first lifted off the outflow channels 17, so that the outflow channels 17 are opened and the fluid pressure of the fluid in the piston chamber 4 drops. The piston 6 is then moved along the piston stroke 7 or parallel to the longitudinal axis 21 by operating or pressing the actuating element 5 completely into the Fig. 2. The fluid can flow from the piston chamber 4 via the outflow channels 17 and / or the inflow channels 16.

[0034] Fig. 2 shows the sanitary fitting 2 in the longitudinal section. In Fig. 2, the self-closing cartridge 1 or the piston 6 is in the open position 9. In the open position 9 of the piston 6, the main fluid path 31 is open. This allows the fluid to flow from the annular chamber 28 through the self-closing cartridge 1 into the outlet 19 or from the outlet opening 20 into an environment 36 of the sanitary fitting 2. As soon as the actuating element 5 is no longer actuated or pressed, a first spring 10 presses the actuating element 5 together with the connecting element 34 and the piston 6 back in the direction of the Fig. 1. The second spring 11 can be arranged between the cartridge housing 3 and the actuating element 5. As soon as the actuating element 5 is no longer actuated or pressed, a second spring 11 presses the second seal 35 against the outlet channels 17, so that they are closed. When the piston 4 moves in the direction of the Fig. 1, the fluid pressure of the fluid in the piston chamber 4 drops, so that fluid flows into the piston chamber 4 via the inflow channels 16. The inflow channels 16 are designed such that they delay the inflow of fluid into the piston chamber 4 when the piston 6 returns to the closed position 8 shown in FIG. 1. For this purpose, the inflow channels 16 can be designed with a small flow cross-section and / or have a fluid throttle. The time required by the piston 6 to move from the open position 9 to the closed position shown in FIG. Fig. The time required to reach the closed position 8 shown in Figure 1, or the running time of the fluid, depends on the length 13 of the piston stroke 7. The longer the piston stroke 7, the longer the time or running time. The shorter the piston stroke 7, the shorter the time or running time.

[0035] The self-closing cartridge 1 has an adjusting element 12 for adjusting the length 13 of the piston stroke 7. The adjusting element 12 is arranged on an outer side 14 of the cartridge housing 3, between the cartridge housing 3 and the actuating element 5. The adjusting element 12 is designed as a nut and is connected to the cartridge housing 3 via a thread 37. The thread 37 allows the adjusting element 12 to be continuously adjusted parallel to the longitudinal axis 21 relative to the cartridge housing 3 or to the actuating element 5. The adjusting element 12 has a locking surface 38 for the actuating element 5, with which the actuating element 5 comes into contact when the actuating element 5 is actuated or pressed to open the self-closing cartridge 1. The blocking surface 38 points in the direction of the actuating element 5 or the second longitudinal end 23 of the self-closing cartridge 1. As soon as the actuating element 5 engages the adjusting element 12 orthe blocking surface 38 of the adjusting element 12 is contacted, the adjusting element 12 or the blocking surface 38 prevents further movement of the actuating element 5 or the piston 6 in the direction of the first longitudinal end 22 of the self-closing cartridge 1 or the cartridge housing 3. By adjusting the adjusting element 12 on the cartridge housing 3 or relative to the cartridge housing 3, the length 13 of the piston stroke 7 can thus be adjusted.

[0036] The further the locking surface 38 of the adjusting element (in the Fig. 1 shown closed position 8) in the direction of the actuating element 5, the shorter the length 13 of the piston stroke 7 and thus the running time or the time that the piston 6 needs to move from the open position 9 into the position shown in Fig. 1 shown closed position 8. The further the locking surface 38 of the adjusting element 12 (in the Fig. 1 shown closed position 8) in the direction of the actuating element 5, the shorter the running time until the self-closing cartridge 1 closes automatically after opening. The further the locking surface 38 of the adjusting element 12 (in the Fig. 1 shown closed position 8) is adjusted away from the actuating element 5, the greater the length 13 of the piston stroke 7 and thus the running time or the time that the piston 6 needs to move from the open position 9 into the position shown in Fig. 1 shown closed position 8. The further the locking surface 38 of the adjusting element 12 (in the Fig. 1 shown closed position 8) is adjusted away from the actuating element 5, the longer the running time until the self-closing cartridge 1 closes automatically after opening.

[0037] The adjustment element 12 is covered by a cover 15 (cf. Fig.1), so that the adjustment element 12 cannot be inadvertently adjusted by the user. The cover 15 is sleeve-shaped and, to release the adjustment element 12, can be adjusted parallel to the longitudinal axis 21 into the actuating element 5 against a third spring 39. The cover 15 can be reset to a cover position by the third spring 39.

[0038] The present invention allows the running time of the liquid to be adjusted with little effort.
