Description

FIELD OF INVENTION

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and more particularly, to protective mounting systems for wall penetrations in air source heat pump installations. BACKGROUND

[0002] Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) have gained significant popularity in recent years as an energy-efficient alternative to traditional heating and cooling systems. These systems extract heat from the outside air and transfer it indoors, or vice versa, to provide both heating and cooling for residential and commercial buildings. ASHPs are particularly valued for their ability to operate effectively in various climates and their potential to reduce carbon emissions when compared to fossil fuel-based heating systems.

[0003] The installation of air source heat pumps typically requires creating penetrations in the building envelope to accommodate the necessary pipes and cables. These penetrations allow for the connection between the outdoor unit, which contains the compressor and heat exchanger, and the indoor unit, which distributes the heated or cooled air throughout the building. While these penetrations are essential for the functioning of the ASHP system, they can potentially compromise the building's thermal envelope and weather resistance if not properly sealed and protected.

[0004] Existing methods for protecting wall penetrations in ASHP installations often involve the use of generic sealing materials or makeshift solutions. These approaches may not always provide adequate protection against moisture ingress, air leakage, or thermal bridging. Furthermore, they may lack durability in the face of environmental factors such as UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, and precipitation. The aesthetic appearance of these solutions can also be a concern, potentially detracting from the overall look of the building facade or interior walls.

[0005] As the adoption of air source heat pumps continues to grow, there is an increasing need for specialized solutions that can effectively protect wall penetrations while maintaining the integrity of the building envelope. Such solutions should ideally address the technical requirements of sealing and insulation, withstand various environmental conditions, and provide a visually appealing finish that complements both the interior and exterior of the building.
