Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a reinforcing device for fire hydrants, air valves, repair valves, water equipment, etc., and in particular to a reinforcing device suitable for flange-joining fire hydrants, etc., and a method for winding an elastic retaining ring to hold this reinforcing device. [Background technology]
[0002] Conventionally, steel bolts and nuts have been widely used to connect flanges of fire hydrants, air valves, repair valves, water equipment, etc., but in this case, the bolts and nuts corrode with age and the joint strength of the flanges is likely to decrease. As a countermeasure, reinforcing metal fittings have been proposed to reinforce the flange joints of installed fire hydrants, etc., and these reinforcing metal fittings can prevent the flanges from separating or shifting from each other.
[0003] The applicant has filed a patent application for a reinforcing tool for flanges of this type, the reinforcing tool of Patent Document 1. This reinforcing tool includes a frame-shaped reinforcing tool body, a pressing member provided in the space of the reinforcing tool so as to be movable up and down, and a tightening bolt which is a tightening member for pressing the pressing member. By tightening the tightening bolt, the flange is tightened between the pressing member and the opposing surface of the reinforcing tool body which faces the pressing member. For example, if this reinforcing tool is used to reinforce an old fire hydrant by pinching the joint of the flange from around the bolt and nut attached to the fire hydrant, the structure in which the tightening bolt is arranged approximately coaxially with the pressing member prevents the reinforcing tool body from loosening or falling off after installation and maintains a strong holding force, compared to conventional clamps in which the tightening bolt and the pressing member are not arranged approximately coaxially.
[0004] In this case, an elastic retaining ring made of an O-ring is wrapped around the pressing member and the reinforcing body, and is hooked onto the head side of the tightening bolt, so that the pressing member is held above the space in the reinforcing body by the elastic retaining ring. This allows the reinforcing body to be easily installed without having to hold the pressing member by hand, and prevents the pressing member from rattling or coming off during transportation or storage. Furthermore, a commercially available O-ring can be used as the elastic retaining ring, and the tightening bolt can be tightened without it getting stuck. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]
[0005] [Patent Document 1] JP 2018-128137 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0006] Generally, the shapes and structures of fire hydrants and water equipment are regulated to some extent by standards, but may be installed in various ways for each product. For example, in the case of fire hydrants, although the shape, etc., of fire hydrants are regulated by the Japan Water Works Association standard JWWA B 103, there are cases where unique fire hydrants that do not comply with this standard are used and installed in the piping.
[0007] In this case, for example, the fire hydrant may be small or compact compared to the above-mentioned standards, and if the overall length is shortened in this way, the length from the flange portion, which is one end for joining, to the other end will also be shortened. In response to this, the applicant has discovered a reinforcing tool that can prevent the side of the reinforcing tool opposite the flange joint from interfering with the fire hydrant body or other piping parts connected to the fire hydrant, even when the flange joint part of such a short-length fire hydrant is tightened and reinforced with the reinforcing tool. This reinforcing tool uses a set screw without a bolt head instead of a tightening bolt as the tightening member to press the pressing member, and in this case, the protrusion of the set screw from the top surface of the reinforcing tool body can be minimized, making it possible to shorten the overall length of the reinforcing tool.
[0008] This prevents the fire hydrant body and the coupling portion, which is the connection portion of the standpipe connected to the fire hydrant, from interfering with the locking screw of the reinforcing device body, for example, when the flange joint portion of the fire hydrant is reinforced with a reinforcing device, or when, after reinforcement, another piping component, a standpipe, is to be connected to the nozzle of the fire hydrant, thereby enabling the fire hydrant to be reliably reinforced and the standpipe to be reliably connected to the fire hydrant.
[0009] However, when the set screw is used as a fastening member to press the holding member as described above, there is a risk that the entire set screw will be embedded in the reinforcing member body as it is screwed in. In this case, if the elastic retaining ring described above is hooked onto the male thread of the set screw, the embedding of the set screw may cause the elastic retaining ring to come off the male thread, causing the elastic retaining ring to fall off and making it difficult to hold the holding member to the reinforcing member body, so measures to prevent this are necessary. In addition, when the set screw is screwed in, the elastic retaining ring may become caught between the male thread and the female thread on the reinforcement body, making it difficult to tighten the set screw further, or the caught elastic retaining ring may stretch or break, making it difficult to retain the pressure member on the reinforcement body.Measures are also required to prevent this.
[0010] In view of the above, the applicant has developed a reinforcing device for fire hydrants, etc., which reinforcing the flange joint by securely tightening the fastening members and pressing the pressing member, even in the case of a fire hydrant or other special shape having a short overall length, without interfering with the elastic retaining ring or the like, and which prevents the elastic retaining ring from falling off, becoming entangled, or breaking.
[0011] The present invention was developed to solve the above-mentioned problems, and its object is to provide a reinforcing device for a fire hydrant, etc., and a method for winding an elastic retaining ring for the reinforcing device, which can be securely attached to the flange joint portion of a fire hydrant, etc., even if the fire hydrant, etc. has a special shape, such as a short overall length, to provide strong reinforcement, and which allows other parts to be securely attached to the fire hydrant, etc. even after reinforcement, and which allows a pressure member that presses the flange joint portion to be held on the reinforcing device main body before attachment, and which allows the pressure member to be tightened and fixed while preventing interference with the tightening member. [Means for solving the problem]
[0012] In order to achieve the above object, the invention according to claim 1 is a reinforcing tool for reinforcing a flange protruding area of a fire hydrant, an air valve, a repair valve, or a water equipment, comprising a frame-shaped reinforcing tool body, a space portion in the reinforcing tool body into which a flange protruding area to be joined is inserted from the side, a pressing member in the space portion for pressing the periphery of a joining bolt joining the flange protruding area so as to be movable up and down, a fastening member in the center position of an upper shoulder portion of the reinforcing tool body for pressing the pressing member approximately coaxially, and a fastening member that is hung between the pressing member and the upper shoulder portion to hold the pressing member in the space. and an elastic retaining ring for holding the pressing member at an upper position above the flange protruding region and for raising and lowering the pressing member by the pressure of the tightening member, wherein when the reinforcement body is attached to the flange protruding region or when it is attached, the upper end of the tightening member is in a position that does not interfere with accessories including a fire hydrant, air valve, repair valve or water equipment, or a push ring or an external standpipe, and wherein the tightening member is tightened to clamp and fix the flange protruding region between the pressing portion of the pressing member and the opposing surface of the reinforcement body.
[0013] The invention of claim 2 is a reinforcing device for a fire hydrant, etc., in which the fastening member is a set screw that protrudes from the upper shoulder so as not to interfere with the fire hydrant, air valve, repair valve, water equipment, or attached parts, or is embedded within the upper shoulder.
[0014] The invention of claim 3 is a reinforcing device such as a fire hydrant, in which the pressing member is wound around the upper shoulder portion of the reinforcing device main body with an elastic retaining ring that expands and contracts, allowing the pressing member to move up and down, and is held above the space portion by the contraction of the elastic retaining ring of the reinforcing device main body.
[0015] The invention according to claim 4 is a reinforcing device for a fire hydrant or the like, in which the elastic retaining ring is an O-ring having a diameter that allows it to be wound around.
[0016] The invention of claim 5 is a method for winding an elastic retaining ring of a reinforcing device such as a fire hydrant, comprising a first step of wrapping the elastic retaining ring around the upper shoulder portion of a frame-shaped reinforcing device main body and placing a pressing member that presses around the flange protruding area of a fire hydrant, air valve, repair valve or water equipment so that it can be raised and lowered; a second step of rotating the pressing member together with the elastic retaining ring approximately 90 degrees while pulling it down relative to the reinforcing device main body; and a third step of attaching the pressing member to the vertical frame through a small diameter vertical frame portion formed in the vertical frame with the pressing member pulled down, and holding the pressing member at an upper position of the space portion by the elastic force of the elastic retaining ring.
[0017] The invention of claim 6 is a method for winding an elastic retaining ring, the first step being a method of placing a pressure member on the ring-shaped portion of the elastic retaining ring hung on the upper shoulder portion in a direction intersecting with the reinforcement body, or a method of surrounding the elastic retaining ring with the vertical frame of the reinforcement body, placing a pressure member on this surrounded elastic retaining ring in a direction intersecting with the reinforcement body, and hanging the ring-shaped portions at both ends of the elastic retaining ring on the upper shoulder portion of the reinforcement body.
[0018] The invention according to claim 7 is a method for winding an elastic retaining ring of a reinforcing tool, in which the elastic retaining ring is an O-ring having a diameter that allows it to be wound. Effect of the Invention
[0019] According to the invention of claim 1, when the reinforcing device main body is attached to the flange protruding area or while it is attached, the upper end of the fastening member is positioned so as not to interfere with the fire hydrant, air valve, repair valve, or water equipment, or water equipment or accessories including the push ring and external standpipe. Therefore, even in the case of a fire hydrant, etc. having a special shape such as a short overall length, the fastening member is prevented from interfering with the fire hydrant, water equipment, etc., accessories, or other parts connected to these, and the fastening member presses the holding member, so that the reinforcing device main body can be securely attached to the flange joint portion and firmly reinforced, and even after reinforcement, the fire hydrant, air valve, repair valve, or water equipment, accessories, and other parts can be securely attached. Moreover, since the pressing member can be positioned above the space by hooking the elastic retaining ring between the pressing member and the upper shoulder portion and the pressing member can be held in the reinforcing member body, workability is improved when attaching the reinforcing member body, and the pressing member can be prevented from moving or coming off naturally and maintained in its held state when it is not being pressed, such as when the reinforcing member body is not in use. The pressing member can be fastened and fixed while preventing interference with the fastening member that presses the pressing member from fire hydrants, air valves, repair valves, water equipment, accessories, tools, etc., and the elastic retaining ring can be prevented from falling off, becoming entangled, or breaking.
[0020] According to the invention of claim 2, the fastening member is a set screw that protrudes from the upper shoulder so as not to interfere with the fire hydrant, air valve, repair valve, water equipment, or attached parts, or is embedded in the upper shoulder, so it does not have a bolt head like a bolt, and the outward protrusion of the set screw can be minimized, and the overall length of the reinforcement body can be shortened. As a result, when or after the reinforcement body is attached to the flange protruding area of various fire hydrants, air valves, repair valves, or water equipment, even if the overall length is short or the outer shape is special, it can be attached while preventing the whole from interfering with them, centered on the fastening member, or other attached parts or components can be attached to them after attachment.
[0021] According to the invention of claim 3, the pressing member is held above the space by contraction of the elastic retaining ring of the reinforcement body in a state where it can be raised and lowered by wrapping the pressing member and the upper shoulder of the reinforcement body with an elastic retaining ring that expands and contracts, so that the pressing member descends when the fastening member is tightened and rises when the fastening member is loosened due to the expansion and contraction of the elastic retaining ring, and the pressing member can be raised and lowered according to the degree of fastening of the fastening member, and the reinforcement body can be attached to the flange joint part in an appropriate state and reinforced firmly while improving workability. There is no need to provide separate parts for attaching the elastic retaining ring to the reinforcement body or the pressing member, and when the pressing member is not being pressed, such as when the reinforcement body is not in use, the elastic retaining ring contracts to integrate the pressing member with the reinforcement body, maintaining the overall compactness, and the pressing member can be attached to the narrow installation space of the flange protruding area of a fire hydrant or the like for reinforcement. In this case, the mounting work can be easily and reliably performed without holding the pressing member by hand, and the pressing member remains reliably held without rattling during transportation and storage.
[0022] According to the invention of claim 4, since the elastic retaining ring is an O-ring having a diameter that allows winding, a commercially available O-ring can be used as the elastic retaining ring, and this O-ring can be attached as it is without any processing. Moreover, the O-ring can be attached to the flange protruding area of the reinforcement body with the O-ring still attached, and the O-ring has the advantage that it does not become waste unless it is torn off.
[0023] According to the invention of claim 5, the pressing member can be positioned above the space of the reinforcing device main body by a simple installation operation using a commercially available elastic retaining ring without requiring any special tools, and the elastic force of the elastic retaining ring can be used to hold the pressing member in a position above the space, thereby preventing the pressing member from shifting position or falling off after the elastic retaining ring is wound around it. When attaching the reinforcing device main body to the flange protruding region, the pressing member can be used to press the flange protruding region while preventing the pressing member from coming off or shifting position by utilizing the elastic force of the elastic retaining ring without removing the elastic retaining ring.
[0024] According to the invention of claim 6, the elastic retaining ring can be easily hung around the upper shoulder of the reinforcing device body by a different first step, and the pressing member can be placed on the elastic retaining ring. If the first step is a method of placing the pressing member on the ring-shaped part of the elastic retaining ring hung on the upper shoulder in a direction intersecting with the reinforcing device body, the pressing member can be placed on the elastic retaining ring with one touch. On the other hand, if the first step is a method of surrounding the elastic retaining ring with the vertical frame of the reinforcing device body, placing the pressing member on the elastic retaining ring in the direction intersecting with the reinforcing device body in this surrounded state, and hanging the ring-shaped parts at both ends of the elastic retaining ring on the upper shoulder of the reinforcing device body, the pressing member can be placed on the elastic retaining ring without applying unnecessary tension to the elastic retaining ring, and damage and deterioration of the elastic retaining ring can be prevented, and a decrease in its elastic force can be suppressed.
[0025] According to the invention of claim 7, since the elastic retaining ring is an O-ring having a diameter that allows winding, a commercially available O-ring can be used as the elastic retaining ring, and this O-ring can be wound as it is without any processing. Moreover, with the O-ring wound, the flange protruding area of a fire hydrant, air valve, repair valve, or water equipment can be fastened and fixed with the reinforcement body, and the O-ring has the advantage that it does not become waste unless it is torn off. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0027] The reinforcing device for a fire hydrant or the like according to the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the drawings. Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the reinforcing device for a fire hydrant or the like according to the present invention, and Figs. 2 to 4 show the state in which the reinforcing device for a fire hydrant or the like according to the present invention is attached to the fire hydrant.
[0028] The reinforcing device of the present invention is provided, for example, to reinforce the flange 2 of a fire hydrant 1, or an air valve, repair valve, or other water equipment not shown, and these flanges 2 are fastened at the same pitch circle by a connecting bolt (hereinafter referred to as a connecting bolt 3) that can join the flange protruding region R described below.
[0029] The reinforcing tool shown in Fig. 1 protrudes radially outward beyond the pitch circle of the fastening bolts 3, and is attached to a flange protruding region R, which is a region where a part of the joined flange 2 of the fire hydrant 1 protrudes, for reinforcement. In this case, it is suitable for reinforcing the flange protruding region R of an old-style fire hydrant, where only the area near the joined part protrudes radially outward beyond the pitch circle, for example.
[0030] The reinforcing device of the present invention comprises a frame-shaped reinforcing device main body 10, a pressing member 11, a fastening member 12, and an elastic retaining ring 13. The reinforcing tool body 10 is integrally formed from stainless steel material by a casting method such as lost wax casting, etc. This minimizes the number of parts that make up the reinforcing tool body 10, making it possible to mass-produce it at low cost and reducing the risk of parts being lost or accidents occurring.
[0031] The reinforcing device main body 10 has a top plate-like upper shoulder portion 20 provided on the upper side, and a bottom plate portion 21 provided on the lower side so as to face this upper shoulder portion 20, and vertical frames 22 connecting these are provided on both sides of the upper shoulder portion 20 and the bottom plate portion 21. A space portion G is provided inside the reinforcing device main body 10, and a flange protruding region R of the fire hydrant 1 to be joined is provided in this space portion G so as to be insertable laterally, i.e., from a direction intersecting the fastening direction of the fastening member 12.
[0032] The upper shoulder portion 20 is formed in an oval disk shape with a predetermined thickness and a size that allows the pressing member 11 to be attached inside, and a female screw 23 is provided in the center thereof. The bottom plate portion 21 is provided in an oval plate shape having substantially the same size as the upper shoulder portion 20 in a plan view, and is formed to be thicker in the thickness direction than the upper shoulder portion 20. A recess 24 for positioning the fastening bolt 3 is formed in the center of the surface of the bottom plate portion 21 facing the pressing member 11.
[0033] A large diameter vertical frame portion 25 having a substantially semicircular cross section is provided at the top and bottom positions in the length direction of each of the vertical frames 22 on both sides, and a concave groove portion 26 of the pressing member 11 described later is provided so as to be able to be loosely fitted into the large diameter vertical frame portion 25. A small diameter vertical frame portion 27 having a smaller diameter than the large diameter vertical frame portion 25 and formed into a substantially semicircular cross section is provided between the upper and lower large diameter vertical frame portions 25.
[0034] The small diameter vertical frame portion 27 is shaped like a cutout of an inner portion of the large diameter vertical frame portion 25 in a cross-sectional shape of an approximately circular arc with a smaller diameter, and the pressing member 11 described below is attached to the vertical frames 22 on both sides of the reinforcement body 10 through this small diameter vertical frame portion 27. In this way, the small diameter vertical frame portion 27 is provided with a smaller diameter than the large diameter vertical frame portion 25, so that the pressing member 11 can be attached from one side through the cutout portion 32 described below. Moreover, the cross-sectional shape of the cutout portion 32 is such that when a force in the direction of attachment or removal (force in the rotational direction) is applied to the pressing member 11 with the cutout portion 32 aligned with the position of the small diameter vertical frame portion 27, the pressing member 11 can be easily attached to or removed from the vertical frame 22, and the shape is such that the pressing member 11 will not come off naturally after it is attached to a predetermined position of the reinforcement body 10.
[0035] The space G is provided with a width such that the flange protruding region R of the fire hydrant 1 to be joined can be inserted laterally, i.e., in the direction intersecting the fastening direction. A pressing member 11 is attached within this space G.
[0036] 10 shows a pressing member, and more specifically, FIG. 10(a) shows a front view of the pressing member, FIG. 10(b) shows a plan view of the pressing member, and FIG. 10(c) shows a bottom view of the pressing member.
[0037] 10(a), the pressing member 11 is formed in a generally U-shaped block shape with a size that allows it to be installed in the space G. On both sides of the pressing member 11, concave grooves 26 with a generally semicircular cross section that can be loosely fitted into the vertical frame 22 are formed, and the pressing member 11 is installed in the vertical frame 22 through these concave grooves 26. In this way, the pressing member 11 is provided in the space G so as to be able to move up and down around the fastening bolt 3 through the vertical frame 22, and when it descends, it is possible for the pressing surface 28, which will be described later, to press the flange protruding region R around the fastening bolt 3.
[0038] In the holding member 11, a recessed portion 29 is formed in the center, which is a position facing the recessed portion 24 of the reinforcing device main body 10, and is cut out in approximately the same shape as the recessed portion 24. When the flange protruding region R of the fire hydrant 1 is joined with the reinforcing device main body 10, the joining bolt 3 is positioned within the recessed portion 29, similar to the recessed portion 24. Through the recessed portion 24 and the recessed portion 29, the pressing surface 28 can come into contact with the opposing surface 30 described below, straddling the joining bolt 3.
[0039] A pressing surface 28, which is a pressing portion, is formed on the bottom side of the pressing member 11, and this pressing surface 28 is provided on both sides of the recessed portion 29 so as to face the opposing surface 30 of the reinforcing member main body 10. The flange protruding region R is provided so as to be able to be sandwiched between this pressing surface 28 and the opposing surface of the reinforcing member main body 10, and in this case, the pressing surface 28 and the opposing surface 30 are provided with approximately the same shape and approximately the same area. As a result, when the flange protruding region R is sandwiched, it can be held in a state in which approximately uniform pressing force is applied from above and below by the pressing surface 28 and the opposing surface 30.
[0040] In Fig. 10(b), the concave grooves 26 on both sides of the pressing member 11 are provided by protrusions 31 that sandwich the concave grooves 26. Of these protrusions 31, two protrusions 31 that are point symmetrical with respect to the center P of the pressing member 11 are provided with cutouts 32 that are cut diagonally in the end face direction. The concave grooves 26 on the protrusion 31 side on which the cutouts 32 are provided are more open than on the other side. In this case, the cutouts 32 are provided with a taper angle and cutout amount that allow the small diameter vertical frame part 27 to be attached to the concave grooves 26 from the outside, but prevent the large diameter vertical frame part 25 from being attached from the outside.
[0041] In Fig. 10(c), the pressing surface 28 of the pressing member 11 is formed into a substantially corrugated cross section consisting of very small corrugations, and the frictional force with the flange protruding region R of the reinforcing device main body 10 is increased via this pressing surface 28. This prevents the reinforcing device main body 10 from rotating relative to the flange 2 when the reinforcing device main body 10 is temporarily attached to the fire hydrant 1 and the fastening member 12 is fastened, and even in the case of a flange on which a draft slope for molding is formed, it is possible to prevent the reinforcing device main body 10 from shifting in position in the draft slope direction and fix the reinforcing device main body 10 in a state in which the position is maintained. Therefore, there is no need to use a separate fixing tool such as an adjustable wrench (not shown) to tighten the fastening member 12 while preventing the reinforcement body 10 from rotating, and the reinforcement body 10 can be attached to the flange protrusion region R using only the tool for the fastening member 12.
[0042] Furthermore, the pressing surface 28 may have a cross-sectional shape other than a generally corrugated shape as long as it does not cause any minor damage to the fire hydrant 1. For example, it may be provided in a lattice or mesh shape, or the casting surface may be used as the pressing surface.
[0043] 1, the fastening member 12 is a headless set screw, and in this embodiment, is provided by a hexagonal socket set screw. A male thread 40 on the outer periphery of the set screw (hexagonal socket set screw) 12 can be screwed into a female thread 23 of the upper shoulder 20, and the set screw 12 is attached to the center of the upper shoulder 20 by screwing the male thread 40 into the female thread 23. The tip side of the set screw 12 abuts on approximately the center of the top surface of the pressing member 11, and when the set screw 12 is fastened to the upper shoulder 20, it is pressed approximately coaxially against the center of the pressing member 11.
[0044] The set screws 12 are set so that, when the reinforcing device main body 10 is temporarily attached to the flange protruding region R of the water equipment, they protrude from the upper shoulder 20 so as not to interfere with the fire hydrant 1, air valve, repair valve, water equipment, or attached part 35 described below, or are embedded within the upper shoulder 20. For example, when the water equipment is a fire hydrant 1, the attached part 35 includes a stand pipe 50 for connecting the fire hydrant 1 to a nozzle 44 described below, a push ring 46, a cap 45, and the like.
[0045] The elastic retaining ring 13 is an O-ring having a diameter that allows wrapping around the pressing member 11 and the upper shoulder portion 20, and may be a general-purpose ring made of a rubber material such as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber). The O-ring 13 is hung on the pressing member 11 and the upper shoulder portion 20 of the reinforcing tool main body 10, and the O-ring 13 positions the pressing member 11 at a position above the space G.
[0046] At this time, an expandable O-ring 13 is wound around the pressing member 11 and the upper shoulder 20 of the reinforcing device main body 10, and when no pressing force is applied to the pressing member 11 from the set screw 12, such as when the reinforcing device main body 10 is not in use, the pressing member 11 is positioned above the space G in a state in which it can move up and down due to the contraction of the O-ring 13, and is maintained in this position. On the other hand, by tightening the setscrew 12 against the upper shoulder portion 20, the pressing force from the setscrew 12 makes it possible to move the holding member 11 up and down.
[0047] When or while the reinforcing device main body 10 is attached to the flange protruding region R of a fire hydrant 1 or water supply equipment, the upper end 12a of the set screw 12 is in a position that does not interfere with the fire hydrant 1, air valve, repair valve, water supply equipment, or accessories 35 including the push ring 46, external standpipe 50, and cap 45, and in this state, by tightening the set screw 12, the flange protruding region R is tightened and fixed between the pressing surface 28 of the pressure member 11 and the opposing surface 30 of the reinforcing device main body 10.
[0048] In this case, force is applied evenly to the flange protruding region R by the pressing surface 28 and the opposing surface 30 of the reinforcing member main body 10, centered on the set screw 12, so that the flange protruding region R is clamped between the set screw 12 and the reinforcing member main body 10, allowing it to be firmly tightened and fixed.
[0049] In Figures 2 and 3, the fire hydrant 1 to be joined, which is tightened and fixed by the reinforcing device main body 10, has an upper packing box (valve box lid) 41 and a lower valve box 43 in which a valve body (not shown) is built in via a valve rod 42, and with the packing box 41 stacked on top of the valve box 43, the flanges 2, 2 of both are joined together by the reinforcing device main body 10 to be integrated.
[0050] A nozzle 44 is provided on the top of the packing box 41, to which other components such as a standpipe 50 (described below) and an external hose (not shown) are connected, and this nozzle 44 is normally covered with a cap 45. A push ring 46 is provided on the nozzle 44, and by operating this push ring 46, the standpipe 50 and the external hose can be attached to the nozzle 44 (fire hydrant 1).
[0051] The fire hydrant 1 may be provided in a form other than the shape and structure specified in Japan Water Works Association JWWA B 103, and even if it is smaller than the dimensions specified in this standard or is provided compactly overall and has a short overall length, the flange 2 can be reinforced using the reinforcing device main body 10, and after the reinforcing device main body 10 is attached, other parts such as a stand pipe 50 and an external hose can be attached to the fire hydrant, etc. The flange 2 of the fire hydrant 1 in this example has a general shape, and this flange 2 has a shape in which a part of it protrudes from the pitch circle to the outer diameter side at five points, and the vicinity of each of the five flange protruding regions R is reinforced by the reinforcing device main body 10.
[0052] 12 and 13 show the state where the reinforcing device main body 10 of the above embodiment using a set screw as the fastening member 12 is attached to a fire hydrant 1 that is installed with an overall height lower than that of a fire hydrant specified by Japan Water Works Association JWWA B 103. In Fig. 12, a part of a fire hydrant 60 specified by Japan Water Works Association JWWA B 103 is shown by a two-dot chain line relative to the fire hydrant 1, and in this case, the position of the push ring 46 is higher than the fire hydrant 1 by the height H.
[0053] FIG. 12 shows the state of the fire hydrant 1 with the reinforcing device main body 10 attached thereto after removing the cap 45 in FIG. 3 and before the stand pipe 50 is connected to the nozzle 44 of the fire hydrant 1.
[0054] When the coupling portion 52 of the standpipe 50 is connected to the nozzle 44 from the state shown in Fig. 12, the state shown in Fig. 13 is obtained. At this time, as described above, before or after the reinforcing device main body 10 is attached to the flange protruding region R of the fire hydrant 1, the upper end 12a of the set screw 12 is provided with a length that does not interfere with the fire hydrant 1 or the attached portion 35 (standpipe 50). Therefore, after the standpipe 50 is connected, the set screw 12 does not come into contact with the vicinity of the coupling portion 52 of the standpipe 50, and the standpipe 50 can be arranged in a predetermined vertical direction while the center C1 of the standpipe 50 is centered on the center C2 of the nozzle 44 of the fire hydrant 1. In this case, a space S of an appropriate height is provided between the upper end 12a of the set screw 12 and the lower end 50a of the standpipe 50, which reliably prevents the set screw 12 from coming into contact with the standpipe 50.
[0055] On the other hand, FIG. 14 shows a comparative example, in which a reinforcing device main body 10 using a bolt 53 as a fastening member is attached to the same fire hydrant 1 as above with the cap 45 removed. Here, in the same figure, the fire hydrant 60 specified by the Japan Water Works Association JWWA B 103, shown by the two-dot chain line, has a push ring 46 located at a higher position by a height H than the fire hydrant 1, so that when the stand pipe 50 is connected to the nozzle 44, the bolt 53 does not interfere with the stand pipe 50.
[0056] However, in the case of a fire hydrant 1 with a low overall height, after the standpipe 50 is connected to the nozzle 44, the head 53a of the bolt 53 interferes with (contacts) the lower end 50a of the standpipe 50. In this case, the standpipe 50 is connected to the fire hydrant 1 with its center C1 tilted relative to the center C2 of the nozzle 44, making it difficult to arrange it in the specified vertical direction, or the lower end 50a interferes with the bolt head 53a in the vertical state and is arranged higher than the specified position, making it impossible to connect firmly in the specified state.
[0057] In contrast to this, as described above, in this embodiment, a set screw is used as the fastening member 12, and this set screw 12 can be screwed entirely into the female thread 23, unlike the bolt 53. Therefore, the upper end 12a of the set screw 12 can be securely screwed in to a protruding length that does not interfere with the fire hydrant 1, air valve, repair valve, water equipment, or accessory part 35, or to a state where it is embedded in the upper shoulder part 20, thereby preventing the set screw 12 from protruding unnecessarily from the upper shoulder part 20 and avoiding interference therewith.
[0058] FIG. 14 illustrates an example in which the fastening member of the fire hydrant 1 is bolt 53 and this bolt 53 interferes with the standpipe 50. However, the bolt 51 is also more likely to interfere with the push ring 46, which is positioned lower than the standpipe 50 as the accessory part 35, depending on the orientation of the attachment. When a set screw is used as the fastening member 12, the upper end 12a of the set screw 12 can be adjusted to a position lower than the bottom surface of the push ring 46, as shown in Figures 12 and 13, making it possible to reliably prevent interference of the set screw (fastening member) 12 with the push ring 46.
[0059] In addition, the reinforcing member main body 10 does not necessarily need to be formed as a single unit, but can be provided in various structures, for example, by forming the upper shoulder portion 20 and the bottom plate portion 21 separately, and joining both sides of them with two bolts to form an integrated structure. Furthermore, the pressing member 11 can be provided in various shapes, such as a cap shape, so long as it is capable of pressing the periphery of the fastening bolt 3.
[0060] Furthermore, each component constituting the reinforcing tool of the present invention may be coated with a coating to prevent corrosion due to dissimilar metal contact. The coating is applied, for example, by epoxy resin powder coating to at least the contact surface with the fire hydrant 1. By insulating the fire hydrant 1 from the reinforcing tool body 10 with a coating surface, corrosion due to dissimilar metal contact can be prevented even if the fire hydrant 1 deteriorates and the casting surface is exposed and covered with iron oxide. The coating can be applied to any position on the reinforcing tool body 10, and a coating surface can be provided on the entire surface of each component, or a coating surface can be provided by applying partial coating to at least the contact surface of each component.
[0061] The reinforcing device main body can be used for flanges that are joined in an approximately square shape, or even polygonal flanges, or flanges of various other shapes, and can be attached to the flange protruding area of each of these flanges for reinforcement.
[0062] The fastening member may be provided in a manner other than a locking screw, so long as it is capable of fastening the pressure member in a direction that presses against the flange joint area, and its upper end is of a length such that it does not interfere with fire hydrants, air valves, repair valves, or other water equipment or their accessories when the reinforcing device main body is attached to these or other water equipment, thereby enabling the reinforcing device main body to be attached to a fire hydrant, air valve, repair valve, or other water equipment in a specified state to reliably reinforce it.
[0063] Next, an embodiment of a method for winding an elastic retaining ring of a reinforcing device such as a fire hydrant will be described with reference to Figs. 1 and 5 to 9. The method of winding the elastic retaining ring of the reinforcement tool in this embodiment includes first to third steps, and through each of these steps, the pressing member 11 is held in a position above the space G of the reinforcement tool main body 10.
[0064] 5 shows the first step of the winding method of the elastic retaining ring of the reinforcing tool. In this case, the first step is a method in which, as shown in FIG. 5(b), the O-ring 13, which is an elastic retaining ring, is hung on the upper shoulder 20 of the reinforcing tool body 10, and while pulling both ends of the O-ring 13 downward against the upper shoulder 20 against the elastic force, the pressing member 11 is inserted from the space generated between the upper shoulder 20 and the O-ring 13 in a direction intersecting with the reinforcing tool body 10, and the vicinity of the center of the pressing member 11 is placed on the ring-shaped part of the O-ring 13 hung on the upper shoulder 20 in a direction intersecting with the reinforcing tool body 10, as shown in FIG. 5(a). As a result, the O-ring 13 is hung around the upper shoulder 20 of the reinforcing tool body 10, and the pressing member 11 is placed on the O-ring 13, and the pressing member 11 is suspended from the upper shoulder 20 by the O-ring 13.
[0065] 6, the pressing member 11 is rotated approximately 90° together with the O-ring 13 while being pulled down relative to the reinforcing device main body 10. This results in the pressing member 11 being suspended from the upper shoulder 20 by the O-ring 13 with the O-ring 13 in a twisted state.
[0066] Next, in the third step, with the pressing member 11 in the lowered state, the pressing member 11 is attached from the small diameter vertical frame portion 27 of the vertical frame 22, and the pressing member 11 is held in an upper position in the space G by the elastic force of the O-ring 13. This allows the pressing member 11 to be held against the reinforcing tool main body 10 in a state in which the pressing member 11 is positioned in an upper position in the space G by the O-ring 13 via the upper shoulder portion 20, as shown in Figures 1, 9(a) and 9(b).
[0067] Figure 11 shows a schematic diagram of the second and third steps of attaching the pressing member 11 to the reinforcing device main body 10. In detail, Figure 11(a) shows the state after the pressing member has been attached, Figure 11(b) shows the state during the process of attaching the pressing member, and Figure 11(c) shows the state after the pressing member has been rotated in the opposite direction to the attachment direction.
[0068] In the second and third steps, when mounting the pressing member 11, in Fig. 11(b), the two notches 32 are placed against the small diameter vertical frame parts 27 of each vertical frame 22, the small diameter vertical frame part 27 is fitted into one of the concave groove parts 26, and then rotated rightward so that the other small diameter vertical frame part 27 is inserted into the other concave groove part 26. This allows the pressing member 11 to be mounted on the vertical frame 22 at the position of the small diameter vertical frame part 27, and then mounted on the reinforcing tool main body 10, as shown in Fig. 11(a).
[0069] Since the cutout portion 32 is provided on only one side of the protrusion 31, when the pressing member 11 is further rotated to the right in the installation direction from the state shown in Figure 11(b) as shown in Figure 11(c), the protrusion 31 on the side not provided with the cutout portion 32 engages with the vertical frame 22, thereby preventing the pressing member 11 from falling off.
[0070] As described above, the pressing member 11 can be attached and detached only at the position of the small diameter vertical frame portion 27, which is approximately in the vertical center of the vertical frame 22. Therefore, when the pressing member 11 is lifted relative to the vertical frame 22 or when the pressing member 11 is at the bottom of the vertical frame 22, the pressing member 11 will not fall off the reinforcing member main body 10, and can be removed only when it is moved to the small diameter vertical frame portion 27.
[0071] In this way, the position at which the pressing member 11 can be attached or detached is limited to near the center of the vertical frame 22, and the direction in which it can be attached or detached is limited to the direction of rotation about the center P as the central axis, and the direction of rotation is limited. After the pressing member 11 is attached, as described above, the O-ring 13 is wrapped around the pressing member 11 and the upper shoulder portion 20, and the elastic force of this O-ring 13 allows the pressing member 11 to be maintained in a position above the space portion G, so that the pressing member 11 will not fall off naturally during storage or when the reinforcement body 10 is attached to or detached from the fire hydrant 1.
[0072] As described above, the pressing member 11 can be held in place by being assembled integrally to the upper shoulder portion in advance using the O-ring 13, so that when using the reinforcing device main body 10, there is no need to prepare other parts separately or to disassemble and assemble the reinforcing device main body 10, and the reinforcing device main body 10 can be easily attached.
[0073] The first step may be performed in a direction other than the above-mentioned direction. For example, FIG. 7 shows another example of the first step. In this case, in the first step, first, as the first procedure, as shown in Figure 7(a), the O-ring 13 is attached to the outside of the vertical frames 22 on both sides of the reinforcement body 10, and this O-ring 13 is surrounded near the middle position of the vertical frames 22.
[0074] Next, as the second step, in FIG. 7(b), the pressing member 11 is inserted from the side into the space formed by the upper shoulder 20, the vertical frames 22, 22 on both sides, and the O-ring 13, and the pressing member 11 is placed on top of the surrounding O-ring 13 in a direction intersecting with the reinforcing member main body 10.
[0075] Then, as a third step, as shown in Figure 5 (a), the ring-shaped portions at both ends of the O-ring 13 are hung on the upper shoulder portion 20, thereby allowing the pressing member 11 to be suspended from the upper shoulder portion 20 by the O-ring 13. The first step in another example is a method consisting of the above-mentioned first to third steps, and by going through these steps, the O-ring 13 is looped around the upper shoulder portion 20 of the reinforcing tool main body 10, and the pressing member 11 is placed on this O-ring 13. Furthermore, the first step may be performed by a method other than the above-mentioned methods.
[0076] Next, a method for attaching the reinforcing device main body 10 to the flange 2 of the fire hydrant to be joined, and the function of the reinforcing device such as the fire hydrant 1 in the above embodiment and the method for winding the elastic retaining ring of the reinforcing device will be described. In Fig. 2, when the reinforcing device main body 10 is attached to the flange 2, the reinforcing device main body 10 is first temporarily attached from the lateral direction of the fire hydrant 1 (the side of the flange 2 in the abutting state) so that the flange protruding region R is inserted into the space G. At this time, the pressing member 11 is placed on the flange protruding region R of the upper flange 2, while the opposing surface of the reinforcing device main body 10 is not abutting against the bottom surface of the lower flange 2, as shown in the reinforcing device main body 10 shown on the left and right in Fig. 3. In Fig. 4, after the five reinforcing device main bodies are temporarily attached, each reinforcing device main body 10 can be positioned at a predetermined position on the fire hydrant 1, and the O-ring (fastening member) 13 can be arranged approximately coaxially with the connecting bolt 3.
[0077] From this state, for the three reinforcing device bodies 10 on the left side of Fig. 4 (the larger diameter side of the pitch circle), one hand is placed so that the side of the reinforcing device body 10 comes into contact with the valve box 43 of the fire hydrant 1, while the other hand is lightly tightened to temporarily fix each of them. Next, for the two reinforcing device bodies 10 on the right side (the smaller diameter side of the pitch circle), the set screws 12 are similarly lightly tightened to temporarily fix each of them. By tightening these set screws 12, the reinforcing device body 10 is pulled up relative to the flange 2, as shown in the reinforcing device bodies 10 shown on the left and right of Fig. 2, and the opposing surface 30 comes into contact with the bottom surface of the flange 2 on the bottom side.
[0078] Finally, a tool such as a T-shaped hexagonal wrench (not shown) is inserted into the hexagonal hole of the set screw 12 and tightened to a specified torque. This causes the flange protruding region R to be clamped and fixed around the set screw 12 between the pressing member 11 and the opposing surface 30 of the reinforcing tool main body 10, and the flanges 2, 2 are clamped and fixed to each other at the flange protruding region R.
[0079] As described above, by providing the space G in the reinforcing device main body 10 into which the flange protruding region R is inserted, even in the case of a flange 2 with a special shape such as an old-style fire hydrant 1 in which a portion of the joined portion protrudes toward the outer diameter side and the gripping area is reduced, it is possible to securely position a portion of the flange 2 between the pressing surface 28 and the opposing surface 30 of the space G and tighten and fix it.
[0080] A recess 29 and a recess 24 are provided in the center of the pressing member 11 and the opposing surface 30, respectively, and the set screw 12 is disposed in these recesses 29 and 24, so that with the set screw 12 housed in the so-called gate-shaped reinforcement body 10, both sides of the set screw 12 can be tightened along the pitch circle. This makes it possible to stabilize the mounting position of the reinforcement body 10, and even if the set screw 12 loosens, it will not fall off.
[0081] The reinforcing tool body 10 can reinforce the fire hydrant 1 while leaving the connecting bolts 3 in place, which are difficult to remove, simplifying the work and reducing costs, and also preventing accidents such as the breaking of the connecting bolts 3.
[0082] In the above-described embodiment of the present invention, the reinforcing device main body 10 has an O-ring 13 wound around the pressure member 11 and the upper shoulder portion 20 of the reinforcing device main body 10, and this O-ring 13 holds the pressure member 11 at an upper position of the space G, while the pressure of the set screw 12 allows the pressure member 11 to be raised and lowered. Therefore, the pressure member 11 can be raised and lowered by tightening the set screw 12 while avoiding contact of the O-ring 13 with the set screw 12, and when the set screw 12 is loosened, the pressure member 11 can be pressed and raised and lowered.
[0083] By attaching the O-ring 13 by wrapping it around itself as described above, when attaching the reinforcing member 11 to the flange protruding region R of the reinforcing member main body 10, the reinforcing member 11 can be raised and lowered to the desired position by the O-ring 13 expanding and contracting according to the degree of tightening of the set screw 12, without having to pull the reinforcing member 11 up relative to the reinforcing member main body 10 or hold the reinforcing member 11 by hand, and the reinforcing member main body 10 can be attached to the flange joint portion in an appropriate mounting state through simple operations.
[0084] When the set screw 12 is loosened, the O-ring 13 contracts to hold the pressing member 11 above the space G of the reinforcing device body 10, thereby reliably preventing the pressing member 11 from rattling or coming off the reinforcing device body 10 when the reinforcing device body 10 is not in use, such as during transportation or storage.
[0085] When or while the reinforcing device main body 10 is attached to the flange protruding region R, the set screw 12 is positioned so that its upper end 12a does not interfere with the fire hydrant 1 or accessories 35 such as the standpipe 50 or push ring 46, so that the reinforcing device main body 10 can be attached to the flange protruding region R and reinforced without the set screw 12 interfering with the upper end 12a of the fire hydrant 1, or after reinforcing the flange 2 with the reinforcing device main body 10, for example, when connecting the standpipe 50 to the nozzle 44 of the fire hydrant 1, the set screw 12 can be prevented from coming into contact with the coupling portion 52 of the standpipe 50, and the standpipe 50 can be securely connected.
[0086] In these cases, the setscrew 12 can be easily screwed in using a tool such as a general-purpose wrench while preventing contact with the fire hydrant 1 or the standpipe 50, and even during the screwing, the O-ring 13 and the setscrew 12 are prevented from coming into contact with each other, and the O-ring 13 is prevented from getting caught between the male screw 40 and the female screw 23, causing it to stretch or break. This allows the clamping member 11 to be tightened completely while the O-ring 13 maintains the state in which the clamping member 11 is held to the reinforcing device main body 10.
[0087] Furthermore, by the method of winding the elastic retaining ring of the reinforcement device in the above embodiment, the pressure member 11 can be held in an upper position of the space G of the reinforcement device main body 10 in a simple process using an O-ring 13 without the need for special tools, etc., and from this state, the reinforcement device main body 10 can be placed in the flange protrusion area R and the flange 2 can be reinforced by tightening the set screw 12.
[0088] At that time, the installation work can be easily performed by pressing the reinforcing device main body 10 in the installation direction to the fire hydrant 1 without holding the pressing member 11 by hand above the space G. This allows the reinforcing device main body 10 to be accurately installed to the fire hydrant 1.
[0089] When the set screw 12 is operated to press the retaining member 11 against the flange 2 of the fire hydrant 1, the O-ring 13 has an elastic force at least strong enough not to break. As long as it has such an appropriate elastic force, an elastic body other than an O-ring, for example a ring body having a square cross section, can also be used as the elastic retaining ring 13.
[0090] The O-ring 13 can be a commercially available O-ring as is used to attach the pressing member 11 to the reinforcing device body 10, and there is no need to perform any additional processing on the reinforcing device body 10. Moreover, the O-ring 13 can be used with reinforcing device bodies 10 of different sizes due to its elasticity, and as described above, reinforcing work using the reinforcing device body 10 becomes possible with the O-ring 13 attached.
[0091] Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail above, the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention described in the claims of the present invention.
