Abstract
Description
[Background technology]
[0001] The present invention generally relates to containers for detergent products. Such containers containing detergent products are consumer products that exist in consumer homes, particularly in rooms such as kitchens, laundry rooms or bathrooms, which tend to create moist environments. It is important that the containers are configured to adequately protect the detergent products from deterioration due to excessive exposure to such moisture or humidity. [Brief description of the drawings]

[0003] Detergent products are sensitive to humidity and should therefore be housed in certain containers, particularly containers that can be locked to reduce the risk of accidental opening. At the same time, the lock of such containers should be configured to be activated by a wide variety of adult consumers or users. Thereby, the lock should reliably prevent accidental opening while providing reliable unlocking when desired by the adult consumer. Although such objectives may seem contradictory, it is important to resolve both of them. This apparent contradiction is particularly acute when applied to cardboard containers, which, while offering desirable recyclability, introduce challenges related to their mechanical properties. The consumer product according to the present disclosure aims to take these different aspects into account.
[0004] As will be explained below, the particular configuration described in this disclosure allows relying on a particular human gesture called "precision pinching". Precision pinching is a particular human hand gesture in which a human pinches an object between the thumb and at least one or more other fingers of the same hand. Humans have been found to be particularly precise when performing such movements. Precision in this respect can be explained by considering the alignment of the direction of the force applied by the thumb with the direction of the force applied by one or more other fingers of the same hand. When applying precision pinching, the thumb generates a first force on a first side of the pinch and one or more other fingers generate a second force on a second side of the pinch. Generally speaking, the first and second forces are oppositely directed along substantially the same axis. The essence of precision pinching is that when there is a mutual feedback response between the thumb and one or more other fingers of the same hand, the first and second forces are naturally aligned with each other. As will be explained below, the proposed configuration allows for such mutual feedback, leading to reliance on precision to enable reliable unlocking of an otherwise robust locking mechanism. As will be explained below, certain dimensions allow for such a configuration to be particularly accommodating of an adult hand. It should be understood that in this description, the hand actually corresponds to a human adult hand.
[0005] Detergent products are products that can be relatively heavy, for example when a container for such a product carries the full weight of such a detergent product, especially when the consumer product has been recently acquired and thus holds a significant amount of detergent product. Some consumers can carry such a consumer product by holding the base of the box in which such a detergent product is contained, but such carrying can also occur by holding the lid of such a consumer product, rather than holding the base. In such a case, the lid may come off under the gravity of the detergent product, opening the box, which may fall and scatter its contents. Such a situation should be avoided. Besides avoiding such unintentional unlocking of the lid, the structure of the consumer product container should preserve or improve opening ergonomics and prevent or reduce permanent sidewall deformation under excessive or repeated application of force applied to the consumer product, for example during transportation, in contact with other objects in a grocery store shopping bag, under external pressure, or when dropped. At the same time, the container may be elaborated to preserve the environment. The consumer product according to the present disclosure aims to take these different aspects into account.
[0006] A consumer product should be understood in this disclosure as, among other things, a product that is provided to an end consumer. Such consumer products can be purchased, for example, in a supermarket, and the end consumer can store such consumer products in their home. Since consumer products may be provided in large quantities, they should be designed with environmental concerns in mind. Consumer products should also be designed with transportation to a retail store in mind. Consumer products should also be robust to withstand transportation as part of an e-commerce shipment. Consumer products should also be designed with shelf storage at a retail store in mind. Consumer products should also be designed with transportation from a retail store to a consumer's home in mind. Consumer products should also be designed with storage at an individual end consumer's home in mind. Consumer products should also be designed with use of the consumer product at an individual end consumer's home in mind. Consumer products should also be designed with disposal in mind.
[0007] The consumer product according to the present disclosure includes a detergent product. A detergent product should be understood in this disclosure as a product that includes a surfactant. The detergent product may also include a bleaching agent or other ingredients. Exemplary detergent product compositions are described in more detail herein. [0009] In the present disclosure, the container comprises a box. A box should be understood as a three-dimensional object that is approximately parallelepiped, barrel-shaped, cylindrical, circular, elliptical or cubic, defining a cavity. The use of a parallelepiped box can facilitate storage and transportation by allowing the boxes to be stacked in a space-efficient manner. In some embodiments, the box may be a parallelepiped with some rounded, tapered trapezoidal or chamfered edges. A box according to the present disclosure comprises a detergent product. It should be understood that the detergent product is contained or stored in the box. A box according to the present disclosure comprises a base, a sidewall and an opening opposite the base. A base according to the present disclosure should be understood as a surface against which the box may bear when the box is placed on a supporting surface such as a shelf or floor. In some embodiments, the base is flat. In some embodiments, the base is rectangular. In some embodiments, the base is elliptical or circular. In some embodiments, the base has an embossed shape that is embossed in relief. A sidewall according to the present disclosure should be understood as extending from a base and connecting the base to an opening, a transition piece, or a lid. It should be understood that the connection between the base and the opening may include one or more transition pieces in addition to the sidewall. For example, the transition piece may be glued or otherwise attached to the sidewall. In some embodiments, the sidewall is perpendicular to the base. In some embodiments, the base is rectangular and has four sides, with the four sidewalls extending perpendicularly from the base, each sidewall being rectangular and each sidewall being connected by a sidewall edge to an edge of the base and by two other sidewall edges to two other of the four sidewalls. In some embodiments, the base is elliptical or circular, and the sidewall forms a generally cylindrical wall extending from the base in a direction normal or perpendicular to the base. In some embodiments, the sidewall has a shape corresponding to one of a square, a rectangle, a trapezoid, a polygon, a cross section of a sphere, a cross section of an ovoid, or a cross section of an ellipsoid. An opening according to the present disclosure should be understood as an aperture that provides access to the detergent product contained within the box. In some embodiments, the opening faces the base. In some embodiments, the opening has a surface that is smaller than the surface of the base.In some embodiments, the opening has a surface that is larger than the surface of the base to provide improved access, for example, using a sidewall that extends from the base at an angle of more than 90 degrees from the base. In some embodiments, the opening is provided after removal of a tamper-evident mechanism, including, for example, a perforated strip that is removed upon first use, or a tamper-evident sticker that locks the lid to the box. In some embodiments, a tamper-evident sticker is adhered onto the lid and onto the box, whereby the tamper-evident sticker should be broken, torn, or perforated upon first opening to indicate to the consumer that the container has not been tampered with prior to purchase. The tamper-evident sticker may be, for example, paper or plastic. In some embodiments, the opening is located on a top panel of the box, the top panel of the box faces the base of the box, i.e., opposite the base, the top panel of the box is separated from the base of the box by at least a sidewall, the top panel of the box is generally flush with the base of the box, the opening covers a portion of the top panel, the top panel includes a peripheral portion that surrounds the opening, the peripheral portion being, for example, a transition piece between the sidewall and the opening. In some embodiments, the opening is rectangular. In some embodiments, the opening is rectangular with rounded edges. In some embodiments, the opening is circular or oval.
[0010] The container comprises a lid for the box. A lid according to the present disclosure should be understood as an element that allows the opening of the box to be repeatedly closed or opened. In some embodiments, the lid may be connected to the box, for example by a hinge, or may be separate from the box. A lid according to the present disclosure includes a top or lid top and a side or lid side. It should be understood that the top of the lid is intended to cover the opening of the box when the lid is in the closed position. In some embodiments, the top of the lid is rectangular. In some embodiments, the top of the lid is circular, hexagonal, octagonal, polygonal, or elliptical, and structures such as circular or elliptical are approximated, for example, by multiplying the number of side panels and lid flaps. In some embodiments, the lid includes a chamfered edge. In some embodiments, the top of the lid is rectangular with rounded edges. Although named "top", it should be understood that the top of the lid may be arranged in different orientations. The lid includes a side. It should be understood that a side according to the present disclosure is an element that is connected to the top of the lid and extends from the lid to engage one or more side walls of the box, with each side having an extension along a corresponding side wall between the connection to the top of the lid and the distal end of the side. The side is responsible for positioning the top of the lid over the opening. In some embodiments, the side extends vertically from the top of the lid. In some embodiments, the side surrounds the entire perimeter of the top of the lid. In some embodiments, the side partially surrounds the entire perimeter of the top of the lid, with a portion of the top of the lid having no side, for example, along a hinge between the lid and the box, in the case of a hinged lid. The top of the lid can cover the opening, and at least a portion of the side can cover at least a certain portion of a certain side wall of the box when the lid is in a closed position, and the lid is movable from a closed position to an open position. The movement of the lid can be constrained by a connection to the box, such as a hinge, or can be completely removable, for example, to provide improved access to the contents of the box. The box and lid cooperate to act as a container for storing, transporting, and facilitating access to the contents of the container.
[0011] The container according to the present disclosure includes a lock. A lock should be understood in this disclosure as a mechanism that prevents or reduces the possibility of accidental opening. The lock according to the present disclosure is for maintaining the lid in a closed position. It should be understood that the lock according to the present disclosure is expected to function under normal use of the container. For example, it should be understood that the lock may not fulfill its function if the box is used in an abnormal state or if the box is in an abnormal state. According to the present disclosure, the lock includes a specific actuator that can be moved from a locked position to an open position by applying an actuation pressure to the specific actuator when the lid is in a closed position. The specific actuator should be understood in this disclosure as a mechanical structure that is subjected to a movement upon actuation by an external force or an actuation pressure, such movement resulting in the opening of the lock when such movement is performed. In some embodiments, the specific actuator according to the present disclosure is elastic and has a default position, such default position corresponds to the lid remaining closed, and the elasticity is countered by the external force or the actuation pressure to open the lid. In some embodiments, a particular actuator is elastic in that the particular actuator includes a flexible element, the flexible element has a default position corresponding to the lid remaining closed, the flexible element is pressed to open the lid, and the flexible element springs back to the default position when the pressure is released. It should be understood that the pressure is generated by applying a force to a surface. A particular actuator according to the present disclosure has at least two positions, an open position and a locked position, whereby the open position corresponds to a position that allows the lid to be opened, and the locked position prevents the lid from being opened or reduces the possibility of accidental opening of the lid.
[0012] The specific actuator according to the present disclosure is connected to a specific portion of at least a specific portion of a specific side wall of the box that is covered by at least a portion of the side when the lid is in the closed position, which may be a specific portion that is covered by at least a portion of the side when the lid is in the closed position, the specific actuator abutting, for example, a locking tab of the side when in the locked position, the specific actuator being maintained away from the locking tab when in the open position, the specific actuator being displaceable, for example, by an actuation pressure, by an unlocking displacement distance in a direction perpendicular to the specific portion of the side wall. The connection to the specific portion may be, for example, a crease at the end of the side wall away from the base. The connection of the specific actuator to the specific portion of the side wall is due to the specific actuator's involvement in locking or unlocking the specific portion of the side wall from the part of the side that covers the specific portion of the side wall, thereby allowing the lid to be released from the box. The side may include a locking tab. The locking tab should be understood as a mechanical element that interfaces with the specific actuator. In some embodiments, the locking tab may be in the form of a bulge, protuberance, embossment, or additional layer of material that extends away from the side and protrudes from the side of the lid towards a particular portion of the sidewall so that the particular actuator can abut the tab when in the locked position to prevent separation of the particular portion of the sidewall from the side in the area of the particular actuator. In some embodiments, the locking tab is included in the side itself, for example formed by an aperture in the side. Abutment according to the present disclosure should be understood as contact between a particular actuator or part of a particular actuator and a tab, such contact preventing opening of the lid. In some embodiments, the particular actuator is maintained away from the locking tab when in the open position to release the locking tab. Such release of the locking tab allows the lid to open. The displacement or movement of the specific actuator from the locked position to the open position is due to the application (directly or indirectly) of an actuation pressure or force to the specific actuator such that the specific actuator is displaced in a direction perpendicular to the specific portion of the sidewall a distance sufficient to inhibit the specific actuator from contacting the locking tab, e.g., a distance corresponding to the displacement distance. Due to the specific dimensional configuration according to the present disclosure, it should be understood that the force or pressure that results in the displacement takes a specific direction defined by the precision knob, and such specific direction contributes to the displacement in a direction perpendicular to the specific portion of the sidewall. Such force or pressure may also include a minor component that may be parallel to the sidewall due to the fact that the hand is a human hand and does not always perfectly align the force even when applying the precision knob. However, the actuation is caused by a component of such force or pressure that is perpendicular to the portion of the sidewall. The presence of such a component perpendicular to a portion of the sidewall is responsible for the lock's role in preventing accidental opening, while the desired opening occurs by the consumer "pushing" the specific actuator and applying an unlocking force or pressure that allows the lid to open.
[0013] To provide precision in properly positioning the fingers and to obtain a precision grip, the sides include a specific actuation area on a specific side, which actuation area faces a specific actuator. The fact that such an actuation area faces a specific actuator actually allows either the thumb or one or more of the other fingers to be positioned precisely on the area where the unlocking force is to be applied. The actuation area should be understood as defining a local discontinuity on the specific side, whereby the user or consumer can perceive such discontinuity in order to precisely position the thumb or one or more of the other fingers and apply the precision grip. Such discontinuity may include one or more of an actuation aperture, an actuation flap, an actuation slit, or an actuation membrane. In some embodiments, the actuation area refers to either one or both of the specific or additional actuation area, the specific portion, or the additional portion, and includes a visual indication indicating the location of the actuation area. In some embodiments where the actuation area is an aperture, the specific portion, each additional portion, includes a visual indication visible through the aperture, each aperture, when the lid is closed. The visual indicia may be printed on the exterior surface of the side and may include one or more arrows or one or more areas printed in a prominent color or with specific text that provide instructions such as, for example, "press here to open," or any combination of such instructions to further enhance precision of the knob. The actuation areas are configured to allow for the displacement of a particular actuator from a locked position to an open position by application of actuation pressure to the particular actuation area when the lid is in a closed position. The particular actuation area is configured to be 8 cm wide to allow for proper placement of a thumb or one or more other fingers. 2 Less than 0.2cm 2It has been found that larger areas may result in a lack of precision in finger placement, and smaller areas may make it difficult for a user or consumer to locate the activation area. In some embodiments, the particular activation area has a circular shape to facilitate positioning. Other shapes may be considered, such as, for example, ovals, ovals, squares, triangles, squares with rounded corners, triangles with rounded corners, other polygons, or other polygons with rounded corners.
[0014] As mentioned above, in order to reach a suitable precision in the precision knob, the thumb should perceive a reaction force from one or more fingers of the same hand, which in turn should perceive a reaction force from the thumb. This mutual feedback leads to matching the forces generated during the precision knob leading to the opening of the lock. Such feedback should be transmitted by some structure that directly or indirectly connects a specific operating area to a side opposite a specific side. It has been found that the role of such a structure to transmit the feedback force can be achieved by the top of the lid when the specific operating area is arranged in a specific manner, which allows the thumb and one or more other fingers to simultaneously contact the specific side and the side opposite the specific side connected through the top of the lid. Such a position of the specific area can be defined by the position of a specific center of gravity of the specific operating area. The specific operating area in fact defines a specific center of gravity, which corresponds, for example, to the geometric center of the operating area or to the arithmetic mean position of all the points included in the specific operating area. To achieve adequate mutual feedback transmission through the top of the lid, the particular center of gravity is separated from the top of the lid by less than 5 cm and more than 0.5 cm, and the particular center of gravity is separated from the distal end of the particular side by more than 0.5 cm. The distal end should be understood as the end of the side away from the top of the lid along the direction of the box side wall. To allow for pinching across the top of the lid, the top of the lid spans less than 13 cm and more than 6 cm along a direction perpendicular to the particular portion of the particular center of gravity. It has been found that a large span prevents pinching, and a small span does not provide an opening size sufficient to access the detergent contained within the box. Without being bound by theory, it is believed that a small span may not provide a precision pinch that provides an appropriate balance of force and precision for the purpose of opening a lock according to the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the top of the lid spans less than 12 cm and more than 7 cm along a direction perpendicular to the particular portion of the particular center of gravity. In some embodiments, the top of the lid extends less than 11 cm and more than 8 cm along a direction perpendicular to the particular portion at the particular center of gravity. In some embodiments, the top of the lid extends less than 10 cm and more than 9 cm along a direction perpendicular to the particular portion at the particular center of gravity.
[0015] 1 illustrates an exemplary consumer product 100 including a detergent product (not visible) and a container, the container including a box 101 containing the detergent product, a lid 102 for the box 101, and a lock 103 for maintaining the lid 101 in a closed position. The box includes a base 110, side walls 111-114, and an opening opposite the base, the lid 102 includes a top 120 and sides 121-124, where the top 120 covers the opening and the sides 121-124 cover at least certain portions of certain ones of the side walls 111-114 of the box 101 when the lid 102 is in the closed position, and the lock 103 includes a specific actuator 130 that activates a specific actuator when the lid 102 is in the closed position. The lid 102 can be moved from the locked position to the open position by applying an actuation pressure to actuator 130, and a particular actuator 130 is connected to a particular portion, and sides 121-124 include a particular actuation area 104 on particular side 121, and when the lid 102 is in the closed position, actuation area 104 faces the particular actuator 130, allowing the particular actuator 130 to be displaced from the locked position to the open position by applying an actuation pressure at the particular actuation area 104.
[0016] In the exemplary consumer product 100, the box has a rectangular base and the lid has a rectangular top. The side walls and sides are also rectangular. In this example, the lid is shown in an open position to help visualize the various elements. In this example, the working area 104 is approximately 4.5 cm 21. The working area 104 defines a particular center of gravity corresponding to the center of the circular aperture. In this example, the center of the aperture is approximately 20 mm away from the top of the lid, as shown by distance 150, which is the shortest distance between the particular center of gravity and a point included in the top of the lid, which in this case is along a direction perpendicular to the top of the lid and along the side 121 in which the aperture 104 is cut. The particular center of gravity or center of the circular working area 104 is 50 mm away from the distal end of the particular side, as shown by distance 151, which is the shortest distance between the particular center of gravity and a point included in the distal end of the side 121 of the lid, which in this case is along a direction perpendicular to the top of the lid and along the side 121 in which the aperture 104 is cut. In this embodiment, the top of the lid spans 94 mm along a direction perpendicular to the particular portion at the particular center of gravity, as indicated by distance 152, which in this case is parallel to the top of the lid and perpendicular to the particular side 121 on which the particular actuation area is located. In this embodiment, the lock 103 includes a flap 130 that can be pushed through an aperture 104 when the lid is in the closed position. The lid 102 may be removed by placing either the thumb or other finger of a first adult hand on the actuation area 104 and placing one or more opposing fingers of the same adult hand on the side 123 opposite the particular side, whereby the first adult hand pinches the lid 102 across its top 120 and pushes it towards the flap 130, while holding the box 101 with the other adult hand, lifting and opening the lid while the flap 130 is pressed against the particular portion of the side wall 111.
[0017] 2 illustrates an exemplary consumer product 200 including a detergent product (not visible) and a container, the container including a box 201 containing the detergent product, a lid 202 for the box 201, and a lock 203 for maintaining the lid 201 in a closed position. The box includes a base 210, side walls 211-214, and an opening opposite the base, the lid 202 includes a top 220 and sides 221-223, where the top 220 covers the opening and the sides 221-223 cover at least certain portions of certain ones of the side walls 211-214 of the box 201 when the lid 202 is in the closed position, and the lock 203 includes a specific actuator 230 that activates a specific actuator when the lid 202 is in the closed position. The lid 202 can be moved from the locked position to the open position by applying an actuation pressure to actuator 230, the particular actuator 230 being connected to a particular portion, the sides 221-223 including a particular actuation area 204 on the particular side 221, and when the lid 202 is in the closed position, the actuation area 204 faces the particular actuator 230, allowing the particular actuator 230 to be displaced from the locked position to the open position by applying an actuation pressure at the particular actuation area 204.
[0018] In the exemplary consumer product 200, the box has a rectangular base and the lid has a rectangular top. In this example, the lid is a hinged lid connected by a fold to the side wall 213 opposite the side wall 211 containing the particular portion. The side wall and sides are also rectangular. In this example, the lid is shown in an open position to visualize the various elements. In this example, the actuation area 204 is a rectangular membrane with rounded edges that covers an underlying aperture, the rectangular membrane having a height of 1 cm along a direction perpendicular to the top of the lid and a length of 3 cm perpendicular to the height direction, thereby providing a 3 cm wide opening. 2The actuation area 204 defines a specific center of gravity corresponding to the center of the rectangular membrane. In this example, the specific center of gravity is separated from the top of the lid by 30 mm, as shown by distance 250, which is the shortest distance between the specific center of gravity and a point included in the top of the lid, which in this case is along a direction perpendicular to the top of the lid and along the side 221 on which the actuation area is located. The specific center of gravity is separated from the distal end of the specific side 221, as shown by distance 251, which is the shortest distance between the specific center of gravity and a point included in the distal end of the side 121 of the lid, which in this case is along a direction perpendicular to the top of the lid and along the side 221 on which the actuation area 204 is cut. In this example, the top of the lid spans 100 mm along a direction perpendicular to the specific portion at the specific center of gravity, as shown by distance 252, which in this case is parallel to the top of the lid and perpendicular to the specific side 221 on which the actuation area is located. In this embodiment, the lock 203 comprises a spring-loaded push button 230 that can be actuated through a membrane in the actuation area 204 when the lid is closed. The lid 202 may be opened by placing either the thumb or fingers of a first adult hand on the actuation area 204 and one or more opposing fingers of the same adult hand on the side wall 223 opposite the side wall 211 that contains the actuation area, whereby the first adult hand pinches the lid 102 across its top 220 and presses against the button 230 while holding the box 201 with the other adult hand to hinge open the lid while the button 230 remains pressed against a particular portion of the side wall 211.
[0019] FIG. 3 illustrates an exemplary consumer product 300 that includes the elements described in the context of FIG. 1, where the same reference numbers are used, in addition to an additional activation area 304 on the opposing side 123, where in this example the activation area 304 is of the same nature as the activation area 104, the opposing side 123 being opposite a particular side 121, and the area of additional activation 304 is adjacent to an additional portion of the side wall 113 opposite the particular side wall 111, The additional working area is less than 8 cm2 and greater than 0.2 cm2, in this particular embodiment about 0.8 cm2. 2and the additional area of actuation 304 defines an additional center of gravity; The additional center of gravity is less than 5 cm and more than 0.5 cm away from the top of the lid, preferably 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm, in this particular example about 2 cm; The additional center of gravity is more than 0.5 cm away from the distal end of the opposing side, The additional centroid is aligned with the particular centroid along a direction perpendicular to the additional portion at the additional centroid, and the additional centroid and the particular centroid are separated by more than 6 cm and less than 13 cm, this separation distance being understood as the average shortest straight line distance.
[0020] In a preferred embodiment, the additional center of gravity is located at a distance of about 5 cm from the distal end of the opposing side.
[0021] In a preferred embodiment, the additional center of gravity and the specific center of gravity are separated by approximately 94 mm.
[0022] In some embodiments, a particular center of gravity is a distance D1 away from the distal end of a particular side, and an additional center of gravity is a distance D2 away from the distal end of an opposing side, where D1 differs from D2 by more than 5% of the value of D1. In one embodiment, D1 is about 1.5 cm and D2 is about 3 cm. Such differences in distance from the respective distal ends may allow for tuning the desired precision knob measurement. In some embodiments, D1 and D2 differ by less than 1 cm, preferably less than 0.5 cm. While such an offset between D1 and D2 may contribute to reducing cases of accidental opening when lifting a box by two actuation regions simultaneously, limiting such offset allows for precision knob.
[0023] In some embodiments, the additional active area has a circular shape for ease of positioning, although other shapes such as, for example, elliptical, oval or polygonal may also be considered.
[0024] A configuration such as the example of FIG. 3 allows for precise placement on both sides across the top of the lid, thereby making precision knob application easier.
[0025] It should be noted that while a configuration including additional actuation areas is shown by way of example in Figure 3, other configurations may be contemplated, including, for example, combinations of additional actuation areas that may be of a different type or have different dimensions than a particular actuation area and that may not necessarily be located exactly opposite a particular actuation area. In addition to improving precision knobs by increasing finger placement precision, the use of additional actuation areas may, for example, allow use of the same box by right-handed or left-handed people, regardless of box position.
[0026] In some examples, such as that shown in FIG. 3, the shortest distance between the additional center of gravity and the specific center of gravity along the particular side, top of the lid, and the opposing side is less than 18 cm, thereby allowing an adult hand to exert a precision grip across the top of the lid between both actuation areas. In some examples, the shortest distance between the additional center of gravity and the specific center of gravity along the particular side, top of the lid, and the opposing side is less than 15 cm. In one example, in some examples, the shortest distance between the additional center of gravity and the specific center of gravity along the particular side, top of the lid, and the opposing side is 13.4 cm, which is broken down into 9.5 cm across the top of the lid, 2 cm along the particular side, and 2 cm along the opposing side.
[0027] FIG. 4 illustrates an exemplary consumer product 400. This exemplary consumer product 400 includes elements of the consumer product 300 numbered using the same reference numbers. In addition, the exemplary consumer product 400 includes an additional actuator 403, which is connected to an additional portion of the side wall 113 opposite the particular side wall 111, and which faces the additional actuation area 304 when the lid 102 is closed. The additional actuator 403 is shown with a flap similar to the flap 123 interacting with a tab 430 located on the inside of the flap 130 to enhance the locking of the lid. Pinching, in this case, will unlock both the additional actuator and the particular actuator to open the lid. Although the tab is shown to span a portion of the corresponding flap 123, the tab may span the entire length of the corresponding flap. A tab (not shown) is provided on the inside of the flap 121 and interacts with the flap 130 to contribute to the locking. It should be noted that although the additional actuator 403 is depicted as being symmetrically opposite a particular actuator 130 and having the same properties and dimensions, such actuators may have different properties and dimensions in other examples and may not necessarily be symmetrical.
[0028] 5 shows an exemplary consumer product 500. This exemplary consumer product 500 includes the elements of the consumer product 100 numbered using the same reference numbers. In addition to these, the exemplary consumer product 500 includes a transverse support element 505 of the lid 102, which extends from a first end 551 of the support element to a second end 552 of the support element along a direction perpendicular to a specific portion of a specific center of gravity, which is attached to or integrated with the top of the lid, which portion is located between the first 551 end and a specific actuation area 104 when the lid is closed, and which is separated from the specific actuation area 104 by a clearance of less than 1 cm and more than 0.5 mm along a direction perpendicular to the specific portion of the specific center of gravity. This support element allows for improved transmission of feedback forces when pinching the lid. The support elements also allow for stiffening of the lid and locking structures, with portions of side walls 111 and 113 sliding between the sides and the support elements when the lid is closed. The particular clearance dimensions allow for pinching of the support elements when pinching the lid, thereby allowing for direct force feedback in addition to the feedback that occurs through the top of the lid itself. It should be noted that although the supports are represented as having a triangular profile or triangular cross section, other profiles or cross sections may be provided, so long as they fulfill the function of the support elements.
[0029] 6 shows an exemplary consumer product 600. This exemplary consumer product 600 includes a combination of elements of consumer product 500 and consumer product 400, where the additional portion is located between the second end 552 and the additional actuation area 304 when the lid is closed, and the second end 552 is separated from the area of additional actuation 304 by a clearance of less than 1 cm and more than 0.5 mm along a direction perpendicular to the additional portion at the center of gravity of the additional. Using this configuration, precision gripping is further enhanced by precise positioning of fingers on both sides of the lid and by direct force feedback between the two sides of the lid through the support element, while providing a double lock. It should be understood that alternative combinations may include different box shapes, support element shapes, actuation area shapes, or lock shapes.
[0030] It should be noted that the combination of the lock and the support element, as shown in FIG. 5 or FIG. 6, in addition to increasing the precision of the knob, is responsible for preventing or reducing the risk of accidental opening of the lid while allowing the desired opening by the consumer. The avoidance or reduction of the risk of accidental opening also applies to forces applied in a direction parallel to the side wall, for example by friction with another box placed alongside the box according to the present disclosure, or by the box tipping over during transportation, or by the internal movement of the contents of the box pushing against the lid during transportation. In fact, a strong pull in a direction parallel to the side wall can affect the structure of the side wall, for example resulting in bending of the side wall, which can lead to an undesired disengagement of the lock tab from the activator due to the fact that a certain actuator is connected to a certain part of the side wall. This will lead to an undesired opening of the lid. The possibility of such undesired opening of the lid may be higher if the side wall is made of a material such as cardboard used to form the side wall, especially if the box is a corrugated box.
[0031] In some embodiments, the lock is located in a central region of the sidewall of the box. The central region should be understood to be substantially equidistant from both edges of the sidewall concerned, such edges being along a direction perpendicular to the base of the box. In such an example, it should be understood that the lock is located in a central region relative to the edges perpendicular to the base, but closer to the edge of the sidewall closer to the opening than the edge of the sidewall closer to the base. Such a central location of the lock can be responsible for preventing the lid from sliding off the box when the box is lifted by applying pressure to a specific actuator to hold the lid, such pressure pressing the specific actuator centrally against the support element structure, thereby balancing the forces maintaining the connection between the lid and the box and preventing accidental opening. In some embodiments, the lock may be located on the sidewall and between two edges of the sidewall, such edges being perpendicular to the base, and the lock is located closer to one edge than the other edge of the two edges, for example, 1 / 3 of the distance between the two edges. In some embodiments, one side wall may include two locks. In some embodiments, the two locks may be offset relative to each other with respect to the centerline to increase the distance separating the two locks. In some embodiments, more than two locks may be provided. In some embodiments, three locks are provided, for example, corresponding to a first lock for the thumb of a user's hand and two other locks on the other side of the lid for the index and middle fingers of the same user's hand, so that such a user can simultaneously operate the three locks with one hand while holding the box with the other hand.
[0032] In some examples, the specific center of gravity, and each additional center of gravity, if present, is located in a central region of the side of the lid along a horizontal direction parallel to the top of the lid. The central region should be understood to be substantially equidistant from both edges of the relevant side, such edges being along a direction perpendicular to the top of the lid. Such a configuration allows for the use of a reversible lid, especially when both the specific center of gravity and the additional centers of gravity are present.
[0033] The present disclosure also aims to resolve the apparent conflict between, on the one hand, the use of materials for the sidewalls that resist accidental opening, and, on the other hand, the use of materials for the sidewalls that are particularly environmentally friendly.
[0034] The container may be made of paper or cardboard material, in particular rigid cardboard material, soft cardboard material, or a mixture thereof. In some examples, the material forming the box or lid has a wall thickness of more than 220 μm and less than 3 mm. In some examples, the material forming the box or lid has a wall thickness of more than 1 mm and less than 2 mm. In some examples, the material forming the box or lid is folded on itself, for example, to reinforce part or all of the box or lid. The container can be made of paper material, bio-based material, bamboo fiber, cellulose fiber, cellulosic or fiber-based material, or a mixture thereof. The container can be made of material including recycled material, for example recycled cellulose fiber-based material. In some examples, the lid may be completely separated from the box when opened, to facilitate opening, and the lid weighs less than 200 g, preferably less than 100 g, even more preferably less than 80 g, and more than 10 g, more preferably more than 30 g, even more preferably more than 40 g, to obtain a sufficiently robust lid structure.
[0035] The lid according to some examples includes a pinchable support element structure that fits into the opening of the box when the lid is in the closed position, at least a portion of a particular portion of the sidewall is located between the side and the support element structure when the lid is in the closed position, a clearance distance separates the sidewall from the support element structure in a direction perpendicular to the particular portion of the sidewall when the lid is in the closed position and no actuation pressure is applied, and when the lid is in the closed position and actuation pressure is applied above a pressure threshold, the particular portion of the sidewall flexes, thereby reducing the clearance distance to zero. Both the support element structure and the side are structurally part of the lid, and the support element structure and the side allow the particular portion of the sidewall to pinch, thereby causing the particular portion of the sidewall to sink and prevent undesired disengagement of the particular actuator from the locking tab. It is important to note the fact that when an actuation pressure is applied while lifting the box through the lid, the applied pressure brings the pinched specific portion of the sidewall into contact with the support element structure, thereby compensating for gravity, which would otherwise separate the lid from the box, and such compensation for gravity is due to the resistive static friction force between the specific portion of the sidewall and the support element structure. In some embodiments, the use of the support element structure allows the use of a relatively flexible material to make the box, which, in the absence of the support element structure, would bend to a point that the box would fall if it were lifted by its lid. Allowing the use of a relatively flexible material also allows the use of a smaller amount of such material, due to the presence of the support element structure compensating for such flexibility. The presence of such a support element structure prevents or reduces the risk of accidental opening, even if actuation pressure is applied to a specific actuator of the lock, for example, when lifting the box while applying pressure to the specific actuator of the lock.
[0036] The support element structure enters the opening when the lid is in the closed position and fits into the box when the lid is in the closed position. Such entry into the opening should be understood in the sense that the support element structure includes a part of the support element structure that enters the opening when the lid is moved from the open position to the closed position, and such part of the support element structure exits the opening when the lid is moved from the closed position to the open position. At least a part of the specific part of the side wall is located between the side and the support element structure when the lid is in the closed position. This structure allows capturing the specific part of the side wall between the side and the support element structure, the specific part of the side wall being inserted between the side and the support element structure when the lid is moved from the open position to the closed position, and the specific part of the side wall being released from between the side and the support element structure when the lid is moved from the closed position to the open position. The clearance distance separates the side wall from the support element structure in a direction perpendicular to the specific part of the side wall when the lid is in the closed position and no actuation pressure is applied, such a direction corresponding, for example, to the direction of the linear ridge of the support element. Such clearance distances are present on a first side of the support element structure and are repeated on a second side of the support element structure. Such clearance distances allow the support element structure to be inserted through the opening when the lid is closed such that the support element structure does not collide with a particular portion of the sidewall when the lid is closed. When an actuation pressure is applied above a pressure threshold when the lid is in the closed position, the clearance reduces to zero by bending a particular portion of the sidewall. When such pressure threshold is reached, the sidewall leans against the support element structure through the clearance distance that reduces to zero, thereby preventing the sidewall from distorting excessively and from subsiding to the point where a particular actuator releases a locking tab, and allowing a feedback force to be transmitted from one side of the knob to another side of the knob. Such embodiment clearance distances are related in some embodiments to a tolerance distance between the lid and the box, which together allow the lid to be placed on the box without undue difficulty while avoiding the lid coming loose when in the closed position. While the clearance distance according to the present disclosure is considered in the area of the lock, the tolerance distance between the lid and the box may be considered along the entire perimeter of the opening of the box.In some embodiments, the tolerance is at least 0.1 mm and less than 5 mm. In some embodiments, the tolerance is at least 0.5 mm and less than 3 mm. It is understood that such tolerances are measured, for example, when the lid is in a closed position, between the inner surface of the side and the outer surface of the side wall, and that such tolerances may have different values in the area of the lock.
[0037] In some embodiments, when the lid is in the closed position and no actuation pressure is applied, the clearance distance is at least 1 mm and less than 1 cm. Such a range allows for both easy closure of the lid and preventing subsidence of certain portions of the sidewall that could lead to undesired unlocking. In some embodiments, when the lid is in the closed position and no actuation pressure is applied, the clearance distance is at least 1.5 mm and less than 0.5 cm. In some embodiments, when the lid is in the closed position and no actuation pressure is applied, the clearance distance is at least 2 mm and less than 0.4 cm.
[0038] In some embodiments, the lid comprises a corrugated layer, the corrugated layer comprises flutes, the flutes preferably extending parallel to a direction perpendicular to a particular portion at a particular center of gravity and parallel to the top of the lid, the particular actuation area and each additional actuation area preferably intersecting at least some of the flutes. This configuration allows the top of the lid to be reinforced in the pinch direction, thereby further increasing the pinch force feedback and thereby further increasing the pinch precision. The intersection of the flutes by the actuation area in the form of an aperture also allows ventilation of the apertured side or sides, thereby strengthening the integrity of the side in a wet environment.

The first compartment may include 1-80 water soluble unit dose articles, 1-60 water soluble unit dose articles, 1-40 water soluble unit dose articles, or 1-20 water soluble unit dose articles. The volume of the first compartment may be between 500 mL and 5000 mL, and in some embodiments, between 800 mL and 4000 mL.
[0043] In some embodiments, the detergent product is in the form of a unit dose detergent pouch, preferably a soft, water-soluble unit dose detergent pouch, and the aperture is configured to prevent the unit dose detergent pouch from passing through the aperture. It should be understood that in a container such as that shown in either FIG. 1 or FIG. 3-6, the container may in fact be stored upside down for some reason, in which case accidental opening would result in the lid being filled with detergent pouches. In such a situation, having an aperture configured to prevent the unit dose detergent pouch from passing through the aperture makes it possible to avoid accidentally releasing the detergent pouch through the aperture. In some embodiments, the pouch has a minimum cross section, such minimum cross section being optionally bounded by an exterior flange area, such minimum cross section intersecting the interior volume of the detergent article containing the detergent, such minimum cross section being smaller than the working area aperture. For example, if the working area aperture is less than 1 cm 2 If so, it is 1.5 cm. 2 A pouch having a minimum cross section of 0.1 mm will not be released through the aperture.
[0044] In some embodiments, one or more of the sides including a respective activation area covers at least 30% of a respective side wall of one or more of the side walls when the lid is in a closed position. In such embodiments, when each activation area is an aperture, such aperture allows some of the air contained within the lid to evacuate while closing the lid as the lid is slid onto the box. In some embodiments, the lid defines an interior lid volume defined by a top and sides of the lid. In some embodiments, the interior lid volume is between 200 and 2000 cm. 3 , preferably 750 cm 3 ~1500cm 3In some embodiments, one or more of the sides including the respective activation areas cover at least 40% of a respective side wall of one or more of the side walls when the lid is in the closed position. In some embodiments, one or more of the sides including the respective activation areas cover at least 50% of a respective side wall of one or more of the side walls when the lid is in the closed position. Providing a higher side coverage increases robustness and allows the contents of the container to be retained within the lid case that is accidentally opened upside down. Such a configuration may be advantageously combined in some embodiments with an aperture configured to prevent the unit dose detergent pouch from passing through the aperture.
[0045] In some embodiments, the particular center of gravity and each additional center of gravity is more than 1 cm and less than 3 cm away from the top of the lid. Such sizing has been found to be particularly effective in highly precise knob applications.
[0046] In some embodiments, the particular active area and each additional active area is greater than 6 cm 2 Less than 1cm 2 Such sizing has also been found to be particularly effective in highly precise knob applications.
[0047] In some embodiments, the side includes two short sides and two long sides, and if a particular actuation area is also present, each additional actuation area is on a long side. This configuration allows to increase the rigidity of the top of the lid in the direction of the tab while maintaining the desired container internal volume. In fact, the lid may include two opposing long sides parallel to each other, and two opposing short sides parallel to each other, the long sides being perpendicular to the short sides, and the long sides are preferably reinforced to take into account the fact that the user or consumer is more likely to apply pressure to the long sides and that the long sides are more likely to undergo deformation if the midpoint of the long sides along the first direction is further away from the corner of the same long side than if the midpoint of the short sides is further away from the corner of the respective short side.
[0048] 7 depicts an exemplary method 700 for operating a locked consumer product. The consumer product may be any exemplary consumer product according to the present disclosure. The method 700 includes, at block 701, unlocking the container by pinching the lid with a first adult hand between a thumb of the first adult hand and one or more other fingers of the first adult hand, the one or more other fingers preferably including one or more of an index finger or a middle finger, the pinching being performed across a top of the lid, with either the thumb or the one or more other fingers applying an actuation pressure to the particular actuation area and each additional actuation area if present, and the thumb and the one or more other fingers simultaneously contacting a particular side and a side opposite the particular side in an area between the particular center of gravity, each additional center of gravity if additional actuation areas are present, and the top of the lid. The method 700 further includes, at block 702, opening the container by sliding the pinched lid away from the box in a direction perpendicular to the top of the lid while holding the box with a second adult hand. It should be understood that in some embodiments there is a single specific actuation area without additional actuation areas, in which case pressure may be applied directly to the opposing side instead of being applied to the additional actuation area, while in some other embodiments both a specific actuation area and additional actuation areas are provided.
[0049] Figure 8 illustrates an example method 800 that includes blocks 701 and 702 described in the context of Figure 7. The method 800 further includes closing the container by placing the lid on the box until the lid is in a locked position, at block 803. In some embodiments, an audible click is generated when the lid is locked to confirm that the locking has occurred.
[0050] Dimensions and values disclosed herein should not be understood as being strictly limited to the exact numerical values recited. Instead, unless otherwise indicated, each such dimension is intended to mean both the recited value and a functionally equivalent range surrounding that value. For example, a dimension disclosed as "40 mm" is intended to mean "about 40 mm."
