AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing fluid bearings struggle to suppress self-excited vibrations at ultra-high speed rotations, such as 40,000 rpm or more.

Method used

A fluid bearing design featuring a housing with inclined supply paths and axial land portions with inclined holes, utilizing the Coanda effect to reduce fluid leakage and enhance flow stability, thereby suppressing self-excited vibrations.

Benefits of technology

The fluid bearing effectively reduces self-excited vibrations at ultra-high speed rotations, ensuring stable operation and increased resistance to vibrations.

Abstract

A fluid bearing (3) according to one embodiment includes a housing (4). The housing (4) includes: an inner peripheral surface (41) facing an outer peripheral surface of a rotating shaft; a plurality of recesses (5) formed in the inner peripheral surface (41) so as to be aligned in a circumferential direction; a plurality of supply passages (6), each opening in a radially outer side wall surface of each recess (5); and an orifice or a capillary restrictor provided in each of the supply passages (6). Each supply passage (6) is inclined in the opposite direction to the rotation direction of the rotating shaft and toward the inside in the radial direction of the rotating shaft. In the inner peripheral surface (41) of the housing (4), a plurality of holes (7) are provided in each of a pair of axial land portions (42) located on both sides of the recesses (5) in the axial direction of the rotating shaft. Each hole (7) is inclined in a direction away from a recessed region (44) between the pair of axial land portions (42) and toward the inside in the radial direction of the rotating shaft.
