[0036] In one aspect, provided herein is a suspension concentrate (SC) insecticidal formulation comprising (b) at least one dispersant. Dispersants may be used to disperse solidparticles in a liquid (such as a colloid or emulsion) to improve the separation of the particles and prevent them from agglomerating or settling. In some embodiments, at least one dispersant may be used to disperse the active ingredient in the suspension concentrate (SC) formulation.

[0037] Generally, the dispersion process may include the following steps: wetting of the solid particles; breakdown of the solid particles; and stabilization of the dispersion. Dispersant may be used to help wet the solid particle and eliminate air between the solid particles and liquid medium. Dispersants may be absorbed on the surface of the particles with the other end of the molecule exposed and usually charged. Like charges repel, and the independently coated particles repel each other, maintaining uniform dispersity.

[0038] Dispersant molecules may contain ionic water-loving (hydrophilic) and oil-loving (lipophilic) groups. The hydrophobic (lipophilic) part of the molecule may be attracted to the particle and the particle is surrounded with an ionic layer. For example, in aqueous systems, dispersants are applied to disperse the particles and form an affiliation between the particles and the dispersing medium. Hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) is the balance of the size and strength of the hydrophilic and lipophilic moieties of a dispersant molecule. HLB may represent the oil and water solubility of a dispersant. The balance between the hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties of the molecules may determine the performance of a dispersant agent, for instance the type of emulsion formed.

[0039] In some embodiments, the suspension concentrate (SC) formulation provided herein comprises dispersant to improve the wetting of the active ingredient and enhance stable suspension. Dispersants may be adsorbed onto the active ingredients and hinder close approach of the particles by charge repulsion effects or by steric effects. Examples of ionic dispersants comprise hydroxy functional groups, polyacrylates, polyurethane, fatty acid modified esters, polyacrylic acids, polycarboxylic copolymers, lignins, naphthalene, alkyl sulfates, alkylbenzene sulfonates, or alkyl ether sulfates.

[0060] The following examples further illustrate the invention but, of course, should not be construed as in any way limiting its scope.EXAMPLE 1 : Suspension concentrate formulation with one dispersant.

[0061] Suspension concentrate (SC) formulations containing active ingredient (Al) of 240 grams per liter (g / L) and one dispersant of 8% by weight were prepared as listed in Table 1. Zirconium beads (0.8 mm) were used as a grinding media. A grinding speed was set at 1000 rpm. All samples were milled until target particle size of D90 < 10 pm was reached. Measurements of all particle size were conducted using the Malvern Mastersizer® 3000 (Malvern Instruments Limited, UK).Table 1: Composition of Suspension concentrate (SC) formulation.Dispersant 2

[0062] Samples were placed in an accelerated storage at 54 °C for 2 weeks. Particle size and physical appearance were monitored before and after storage. As illustrated in Fig. 1, comparing to the condition at room temperature (RT), one-dispersant formulations with non-ionic organically modified polymer (polymeric dispersant 1) and polymeric phenyl glycidyl ether (polymeric dispersant 2) at 8% by weight provided good particle size control at 54 °C over two weeks. Particle sizes were found increased with agglomeration after storage for two weeks at 54 °C, for one-dispersant formulations with ethoxylated tristyrylphenol, polyether (polymeric dispersant 3), and polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene block copolymer at 8% by weight. Particle size was found increased for one-dispersant formulations with sodium naphthalene sulfonate condensate at 8% by weight.EXAMPLE 2: Suspension concentrate formulation with two dispersants.

[0063] Suspension concentrate (SC) formulations containing active ingredient of 240 grams per liter (g / L) with two dispersants were prepared. Zirconium beads (0.8 mm) were used as a grinding media. A grinding speed was set at 1000 rpm. All samples were milled until target particle size of D$>o < 10 pm was reached. All particle size measurements were conducted using the Malvern Mastersizer® 3000 (Malvern Instruments Limited, UK).

[0064] Samples were placed in an accelerated storage at 54 °C for 2 weeks. Particle size and physical appearance were monitored before and after storage. Results of particle sizes for suspension concentrate formulations with two dispersants were listed in Table 2. Results of particle size observed for one-dispersant formulations with at 8% by weight was also listed in Table 2 as a reference. As illustrated in Table 2, % change in particle size from room temperature (RT) of formulations with sodium naphthalene sulfonate condensate plus another dispersant were better than that with only sodium naphthalene sulfonate condensate, at totaldispersant of 8% by weight. Formulation with 6% sodium naphthalene sulfonate condensate and 2% kraft lignosulfonate by weight provided a stable suspension concentrate formulation at 54 °C for 2 weeks.Table 2. Particle size of suspension concentrate formulation with two dispersants.EXAMPLE 3 : Tiapyrachlor and Sulfoxaflor premix formulation.

[0065] Suspension concentrate (SC) formulations containing active ingredient of 120 grams per liter (g / L) at 1:1 ratio of Tiapyrachlor and Sulfoxaflor with different dispersant packages were prepared as listed in Table 3. Glass beads (1-1.3 mm) were used as a grinding media. A grinding speed was set at 4000 rpm. All samples were milled until target particle size of D90 < 10 pm was reached. Measurements of all particle sizes were conducted using the Malvern Mastersizer® 3000 (Malvern Instruments Limited, UK).Table 3: Suspension concentrate (SC) formulations.

[0066] Samples were placed in an accelerated storage at 54 °C for 2 weeks. Particle size and physical appearance were monitored before and after storage. As illustrated in Fig. 2, the microscope images showed the agglomeration of particles after storage for two weeks at 54 °C in Formulation 2 (with two anionic dispersants) and Formulation 3 (with a combination of a nonionic and an anionic dispersant). Also as illustrated in Table 4, the particle sizes increased significantly in both Formulation 2 and Formulation 3, after storage for two weeks at 54 °C, comparing to the condition at room temperature (RT). However, Formulation 1 with a single nonionic dispersant (polymeric dispersant 2), provided good particle size control at 54 °C over two weeks.Table 4: Particle size control for suspension concentrate (SC) formulations.EXAMPLE 4: Single dispersant screening for Tiapyrachlor and Sulfoxaflor premix.
