The electronic device 1000 may detect surface information of a touch TC applied to the fingerprint detection area FRA.
[0063] Figure 1 and Figure 2 It is shown that the fingerprint detection area FRA is disposed in an area of the display area DA that is smaller than the entire display area DA. However, these embodiments are merely examples and are not intended to be limiting. In other embodiments, the fingerprint detection area FRA may not overlap with the display area DA, or may overlap with the entire display area DA.
[0064] The electronic device 1000 may include a display panel 100, a window member 200, a light sensing module 300, a grille filter 400, and a case member 500. The case member 500, the light sensing module 300, the grille filter 400, the display panel 100, and the window member 200 may be assembled while being stacked in the third direction DR3.
[0065] exist Figure 2 In the figure, for the convenience of description, a part of the configuration is selectively shown. In addition to the display panel 100, the window member 200, the light sensing module 300, the grid filter 400 and the housing member 500, the electronic device 1000 may further include various components such as a power module, an optical member, a protective member, a heat dissipation member and an electronic module including electronic elements.
[0066] The display panel 100 may be divided into a display area DA and a peripheral area NDA. The display area DA may be an area where an image IM is displayed. The display area DA includes a plurality of light emitting areas PXA that generate the image IM. The light emitting areas PXA are arranged in the display area DA to have a matrix form.
[0067] exist Figure 3 In FIG. 1 , one light emitting region PXA is shown as an example. Here, Figure 3 A portion of the fingerprint detection area FRA is shown. The fingerprint detection area FRA includes at least one light emitting area PXA. That is, the fingerprint detection area FRA may be disposed in an area overlapping the display area DA.
[0068] Reference Figure 3 , the display panel 100 may include a base substrate 110, an array part 120, a display element part 130, and an input sensing part 140. The base substrate 110 may have an insulating property. The base substrate 110 may be a base layer on which the array part 120, the display element part 130, and the input sensing part 140 are disposed.
[0069] In the current embodiment, the base substrate 110 may be transparent. For example, the base substrate 110 may have a glass substrate, a plastic substrate, an insulating film, or a combination thereof.
[0070] The array part 120 is disposed on the base substrate 110. The array part 120 includes a thin film element TEM and a plurality of insulating layers. The insulating layer may have an inorganic material and / or an organic material. The insulating layer may include a first insulating layer 121, a second insulating layer 122, and a third insulating layer 123 stacked one on another in the third direction DR3.
[0071] The thin film element TEM may be a thin film transistor. Specifically, the thin film element TEM includes a semiconductor pattern SM, a control electrode CE, an input electrode IE, and an output electrode OE. The thin film element TEM controls the charge movement of the semiconductor pattern SM through the control electrode CE, and outputs an electrical signal input from the input electrode IE through the output electrode OE.
[0072] The first insulating layer 121 may be disposed between the semiconductor pattern SM and the control electrode CE. In the current embodiment, it is shown that the control electrode CE is disposed above the semiconductor pattern SM. However, this is only an example, and the thin film element TEM according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may include a semiconductor pattern disposed on the control electrode CE, and is not limited to one embodiment.
[0073] The second insulating layer 122 may be disposed between the control electrode CE and the input electrode IE and the output electrode OE. The input electrode IE and the output electrode OE may be disposed on the second insulating layer 122. The input electrode IE and the output electrode OE may pass through the first insulating layer 121 and the second insulating layer 122 and contact the semiconductor pattern SM. However, this is only an example, and the input electrode IE and the output electrode OE may directly contact the semiconductor pattern SM.
[0074] The third insulating layer 123 is provided on the second insulating layer 122. The third insulating layer 123 may cover the thin film element TEM. The third insulating layer 123 electrically insulates the thin film element TEM from the display element part 130.
[0075] However, this is shown only as an example, and the thin film element TEM may be a capacitor. Here, the thin film element TEM may include two electrodes spaced apart from each other in the third direction DR3, and at least one of the first insulating layer 121, the second insulating layer 122, and the third insulating layer 123 is disposed between the two electrodes. In addition, although not shown, the array part 120 may further include a plurality of signal lines that provide electrical signals to the thin film element TEM. The array part 120 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may include various thin film elements and signal lines, and is not limited to one embodiment.
[0076] The display element section 130 includes a display element DEM and a plurality of insulating layers. In the current embodiment, the display element DEM may include various electronic elements that emit light in response to an electrical signal. The display element DEM may be connected to the thin film element TEM. In the current embodiment, the configuration in which the display element DEM is an organic light emitting element will be described as an example.
[0077] The insulating layer may include a fourth insulating layer 131 and a fifth insulating layer 132. The fourth insulating layer 131 is disposed on the third insulating layer 123. In the fourth insulating layer 131, a plurality of light-transmitting portions may be defined. The display element DEM may be disposed in each light-transmitting portion. The light-emitting area PXA may be substantially defined by the light-transmitting portion. In the current embodiment, the fourth insulating layer 131 may correspond to a pixel defining layer.
[0078] The display element DEM includes a first electrode ED1, a second electrode ED2, and a light emitting pattern EML. The display element DEM excites the light emitting pattern EML by a voltage difference between the first electrode ED1 and the second electrode ED2.
[0079] The first electrode ED1 is disposed on the array part 120. The first electrode ED1 may pass through the third insulating layer 123 and thus be electrically connected to the thin film element TEM. The first electrode ED1 may be disposed in plurality. At least portions of the plurality of first electrodes ED1 may be exposed by the light transmitting portions, respectively.
[0080] The second electrode ED2 is disposed above the first electrode ED1. The second electrode ED2 may have an overall shape overlapping the fourth insulating layer 131 and the plurality of first electrodes ED1. When the display element DEM is provided in plurality, the second electrode ED2 may have the same voltage for all the display elements DEM. Therefore, no additional patterning process is required to form the second electrode ED2. However, this is only an example, and the second electrode ED2 may be provided in plurality so that there is one second electrode ED2 for each light transmission portion.
[0081] The light emitting pattern EML is disposed between the first electrode ED1 and the second electrode ED2. The light emitting pattern EML is provided in plurality and may be disposed in each light transmitting portion. The display element DEM activates the light emitting pattern EML in response to a voltage difference between the first electrode ED1 and the second electrode ED2 and may generate light OL.
[0082] In the current embodiment, the first electrode ED1 may have a reflective property. For example, the first electrode ED1 may include a metal having high reflectivity and a conductive pattern having a front surface of the first electrode ED1 coated with a reflective layer.
[0083] On the other hand, the second electrode ED2 may be optically transparent. For example, the second electrode ED2 may include a transparent conductive oxide (TCO).
[0084] The display element DEM includes a first electrode ED1 having a reflective property and a second electrode ED2 having a transmissive property, and thus may have a front-type light emitting structure. The light OL generated in the display element DEM passes through the second electrode ED2 and may then be provided toward the front surface. The light OL generated in the display element DEM generates an image IM. In addition, the light OL generated in the display element DEM may be used as a light source for detecting a fingerprint FNG. This will be described in detail later.
[0085] Here, although not shown, the display element DEM may further include at least one organic layer. The organic layer may be disposed between the first electrode ED1 and the light emitting pattern EML and between the second electrode ED2 and the light emitting pattern EML. The organic layer controls the movement of charges that generate light in the light emitting pattern EML, thereby improving the light emitting efficiency and life of the display element DEM.
[0086] The fifth insulating layer 132 is disposed above the fourth insulating layer 131 and covers the display element DEM. The fifth insulating layer 132 may have insulating properties. For example, the fifth insulating layer 132 may include at least one organic film and / or inorganic film. The fifth insulating layer 132 flattens the top surface of the display element DEM and prevents the display element DEM from being affected by external moisture, pollution or impact, thereby protecting the display element DEM.
[0087] The input sensing part 140 is disposed on the display element part 130. However, this is shown as an example, and the input sensing part 140 may be disposed below the display element part 130. The input sensing part 140 may be disposed in various positions, and is not limited to one embodiment.
[0088] The input sensing unit 140 detects Figure 1 The electronic device 1000 may obtain information about the strength and position of the provided touch TC.
[0089] The input sensing part 140 may include a first detection layer TL1, an insulating layer ILD, a second detection layer TL2, and a cover layer CVL. The first detection layer TL1 and the second detection layer TL2 may cross each other while being insulated by the insulating layer ILD disposed between the first detection layer TL1 and the second detection layer TL2. The input sensing part 140 detects information about the touch TC by using an electric field generated between the first detection layer TL1 and the second detection layer TL2 that changes due to the touch TC.
[0090] Each of the first detection layer TL1 and the second detection layer TL2 may include a plurality of grid lines. Each grid line may be arranged not to overlap with the light emitting area PXA. Therefore, although the grid lines include an opaque material, the light OL displayed on the light emitting area PXA is not affected by the grid lines. However, this is described only as an example, and a portion of the grid lines may be arranged in the light emitting area PXA.
[0091] In some embodiments, the first detection layer TL1 and the second detection layer TL2 may be disposed on the same layer. In this case, the first detection layer TL1 and the second detection layer TL2 may include a plurality of sensor electrodes spaced apart from each other on a plane.
[0092] Alternatively, the first and second detection layers TL1 and TL2 may have a transparent conductive material. Here, the first and second detection layers TL1 and TL2 may be disposed to overlap the light emitting area PXA. The input sensing part 140 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may have various shapes and is not limited to one embodiment.
[0093] The cover layer CVL is disposed on the second detection layer TL2 and covers the second detection layer TL2. The cover layer CVL may include at least one insulating film. The cover layer CVL may include an organic film and / or an inorganic film. Alternatively, in the input sensing portion 140 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the cover layer CVL may be omitted. In this case, the cover layer CVL may be replaced by the window member 200.
[0094] In the display panel 100 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the input sensing part 140 may be omitted. Alternatively, the input sensing part 140 may be bonded to the display element part 130 using an adhesive layer.
[0095] Return to reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 , the window member 200 is disposed on the front surface of the display panel 100. The window member 200 provides the front surface of the electronic device 1000 and protects the display panel 100. For example, the window member 200 may have a glass substrate, a sapphire substrate, or a plastic film. The window member 200 may have a multi-layer or single-layer structure. For example, the window member 200 may have a stacked structure in which a plurality of plastic films are bonded by an adhesive, or a glass substrate is bonded to a plastic film by an adhesive.
[0096] The window member 200 defines the front surface of the electronic device 1000. The window member 200 may include a transmissive area TA and a frame area BZA. The transmissive area TA may be an optically transparent area. The transmissive area TA may be an area corresponding to the display area DA. For example, the transmissive area TA overlaps the entire surface or at least a sub-portion of the display area DA. The image IM displayed on the display area DA of the display panel 100 may be visible through the transmissive area TA.
[0097] The frame area BZA defines the shape of the transmission area TA. The frame area BZA may be adjacent to the transmission area TA and may surround the transmission area TA. The frame area BZA may have a predetermined color. The frame area BZA covers the peripheral area NDA of the display panel 100, and thus the peripheral area NDA may be prevented from being viewed from the outside. However, this is shown only as an example, and in the window member 200 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the frame area BZA may be omitted.
[0098] The light sensing module 300 may be disposed on the bottom surface of the display panel 100. The light sensing module 300 is disposed on a region overlapping the fingerprint detection area FRA in a plane.
[0099] The light sensing module 300 detects incident light and generates an electrical signal. The light incident on the light sensing module 300 may be light OL generated from the display element DEM and reflected by the fingerprint FNG, the light OL passes through the display panel 100, and then is emitted.
[0100] The electrical signal may correspond to the amount and intensity of light incident on the optical sensing module 300. The optical sensing module 300 may generate an electrical signal having fingerprint information of the user through the incident light. This will be described in detail later.
[0101] The grid filter 400 is disposed between the display panel 100 and the light sensing module 300. The grid filter 400 may have a grid shape defining a plurality of light-transmitting portions TOP. Each light-transmitting portion TOP penetrates the grid filter 400 in the third direction DR3.
[0102] The grid filter 400 may have a light blocking material. For example, the grid filter 400 may have an organic material having a light blocking color. The grid filter 400 may have a material having a high optical reflectivity. For example, the grid filter 400 may have a metal having a high reflectivity, such as silver (Ag).
[0103] The grid filter 400 may filter light traveling from the display panel 100 toward the light sensing module 300. The light passing through the grid filter 400 has an optical path parallel to the third direction DR3 and may be radiated from the grid filter 400. The light sensing module 300 has an optical path controlled to be parallel to the third direction DR3 and may receive light having a uniform optical path. Therefore, the light sensing module 300 may have optical sensitivity with improved uniformity and accuracy. This will be described in detail later.
[0104] The housing member 500 is disposed on the bottom surface of the display panel 100. The housing member 500 is coupled to the window member 200 and may provide a bottom surface of the electronic device 1000. The housing member 500 is coupled to the window member 200 and defines an inner space and accommodates the display panel 100 and the light sensing module 300 in the inner space.
[0105] Although not shown, the electronic device 1000 may further include additional components such as at least one circuit board, a power module for supplying power, a shock absorbing member for protecting internal components, and an optical member for improving optical efficiency. These additional components may be accommodated in the housing member 500.
[0106] The housing member 500 may include a material having relatively high rigidity. For example, the housing member 500 may include a plurality of frames and / or plates having glass, plastic, or metal. The housing member 500 may stably protect the components of the electronic device 1000 accommodated in the internal space from external impact.
[0107] According to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the electronic device 1000 further includes the grid filter 400, and thus can improve fingerprint sensitivity through the light sensing module 300. This will be described in detail later.
[0108] Figure 4A is a cross-sectional view schematically illustrating a light sensing module according to an embodiment of the inventive concept. Figure 4B It is shown Figure 4A A cross-sectional view of a portion of. Figure 4B In the Figure 4A The region of one light detecting element PS of the configuration shown in FIG. 3 is shown as an example. Here, although not shown, the light sensing module 300 may further include a power supply module connected to the circuit portion CL or a circuit board connected to the circuit portion CL.
[0109] In the following, reference will be made to Figure 4A and Figure 4B The light sensing module 300 is described as follows. Figure 4A As shown in , the light sensing module 300 may include a base substrate BS, a circuit portion CL, a plurality of light detecting elements PS, an encapsulation portion EC, and a lens portion LS.
[0110] The base substrate BS may be an insulating substrate. The circuit portion CL and the light detecting element PS are mounted over the base substrate BS. For example, the base substrate BS may be a silicon substrate, a glass substrate, or a plastic substrate.
[0111] The circuit portion CL electrically connects the light detecting element PS to an external electronic element not shown. The circuit portion CL can supply external power to the light detecting element PS, control the operation of the light detecting element PS, and provide an electrical signal generated by the light detecting element PS to the outside.
[0112] The circuit portion CL may include a thin film transistor TR and a plurality of insulating layers. The insulating layers may include a first insulating layer L1, a second insulating layer L2, and a third insulating layer L3 stacked one on top of the other. Here, although not shown, the circuit portion CL may further include a signal line connected to the thin film transistor TR and the light detecting element PS.
[0113] The thin film transistor TR is connected to the light detecting element PS, and supplies an electric signal to the light detecting element PS. The thin film transistor TR controls the operation of the light detecting element PS.
[0114] The thin film transistor TR includes a semiconductor pattern SM, a control electrode CE, an input electrode IE, and an output electrode OE, wherein the semiconductor pattern SM is disposed on a base substrate BS, the control electrode CE is spaced apart from and overlapped with the semiconductor pattern SM, and a first insulating layer L1 is located between the control electrode CE and the semiconductor pattern SM, the input electrode IE and the output electrode OE are spaced apart from each other and disposed between a second insulating layer L2 and a third insulating layer L3. The thin film transistor TR controls the movement of charges of the semiconductor pattern SM through the control electrode CE, and outputs an electrical signal input from the input electrode IE through the output electrode OE.
[0115] The thin film transistor TR may have Figure 3 The functions of the thin film element TEM shown in FIG. 1 are basically the same as those of the thin film element TEM shown in FIG.
[0116] The light detecting element PS is connected to the thin film transistor TR. The light detecting element PS may have various structures including a light detecting layer PSL. For example, the light detecting element PS includes a light detecting layer PSL, a first light detecting electrode E1 and a second light detecting electrode E2, the first light detecting electrode E1 and the second light detecting electrode E2 are spaced apart from each other and the light detecting layer PSL is disposed therebetween.
[0117] The first light detecting electrode E1 may be connected to the output electrode OE of the thin film transistor TR. The first light detecting electrode E1 may receive an electrical signal from the thin film transistor TR.
[0118] The second light detecting electrode E2 may be conductive and transparent. For example, the second light detecting electrode E2 may have a transparent conductive oxide. Light received by the light sensing module 300 may pass through the second light detecting electrode E2 and then may be provided to the light detecting layer PSL.
[0119] The second light detecting electrode E2 may receive an electric signal different from that of the first light detecting electrode E1. The first and second light detecting electrodes E1 and E2 are spaced apart from each other with the light detecting layer PSL disposed therebetween, so a predetermined electric field may be provided therebetween.
[0120] The light detection layer PSL generates an electrical signal by incident light. The light detection layer PSL can absorb the energy of the incident light and generate electric charges. For example, the light detection layer PSL can have a photosensitive semiconductor material.
[0121] The charges generated by the light detection layer PSL change the electric field between the first light detection electrode E1 and the second light detection electrode E2. The amount of charge generated by the light detection layer PSL changes according to the amount and intensity of light incident on the light detection element PS and whether the light is incident on the light detection element PS. Therefore, the electric field generated between the first light detection electrode E1 and the second light detection electrode E2 may vary. The light detection element PS may use the change in the electric field between the first light detection electrode E1 and the second light detection electrode E2 to obtain the fingerprint information of the user.
[0122] However, this is shown only as an example, and the light detection element PS may include a thin film transistor in which the light detection layer PSL is used as an active layer. In this case, the light detection element PS can obtain information of the fingerprint FNG by detecting the amount of current flowing through the thin film transistor. The light detection element PS according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may include various structures that can generate electrical signals in response to changes in the amount of light, and is not limited to one embodiment.
[0123] The encapsulation part EC is disposed on the light detecting element PS and protects the light detecting element PS. The encapsulation part EC may have insulating properties. For example, the encapsulation part EC may include at least one organic film and / or inorganic film. The encapsulation part EC prevents the light detecting element PS from being affected by external moisture, pollution or impact, thereby protecting the light detecting element PS. However, this is shown only as an example, and in the light sensing module 300 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the encapsulation part EC may be omitted.
[0124] The lens portion LS is disposed above the light detecting element PS. The lens portion LS improves the light collecting properties of the light incident on the light sensing module 300. The lens portion LS may be provided in the form of a single lens or a sheet having a plurality of light collecting patterns. For example, the lens portion LS may include a condensing lens or a condensing sheet such as a double convex lens sheet or a prism sheet.
[0125] The lens portion LS increases the ratio of light incident on the light detecting element PS relative to light incident on the light sensing module 300. The light sensing module 300 further includes the lens portion LS, and thus can exhibit higher optical sensitivity. However, this is shown only as an example, and in the light sensing module 300 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the lens portion LS may be omitted.
[0126] Figure 5A is a plan view illustrating a grating filter according to an embodiment of the inventive concept. Figure 5B and Figure 5C is a perspective view of a grid filter according to an embodiment of the inventive concept. Figure 5B and Figure 5C They are shown to have Figure 5A 400_A and 400_B are the same plan view of the grating filter 400 shown in FIG. FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C A grid filter 400 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept will be described.
[0127] like Figure 5A As shown in FIG. 4 , the grating filter 400 may include a plurality of light-transmitting portions TOP arranged in a matrix form in the first direction DR1 and the second direction DR2. The light-transmitting portions TOP may be defined by a plurality of line patterns. The line patterns include a plurality of first line patterns R1 and a plurality of second line patterns R2.
[0128] The first line patterns R1 are patterns arranged in the second direction DR2. Each of the first line patterns R1 has a straight line shape extending in the first direction DR1. The first line patterns R1 and the second line patterns R2 are arranged to form a through portion (e.g., a hole) that is not occupied by the first line pattern R1 or the second line pattern R2 and is defined by the first line pattern R1 or the second line pattern R2.
[0129] The second line patterns R2 are patterns arranged in the first direction DR1 to be spaced apart from each other. Each of the second line patterns R2 has a straight line shape extending in the second direction DR2.
[0130] The first line pattern R1 and the second line pattern R2 cross each other and are connected to each other. The first line pattern R1 and the second line pattern R2 are connected to each other in various ways, and thus the light transmitting portion TOP may be provided.
[0131] For example, Figure 5BAs shown in , the first line pattern R1_A and the second line pattern R2_A are connected to each other to provide the same layer, and a grating filter 400_A having an overall shape may be provided. In this case, the thickness of the grating filter 400_A may correspond to the maximum thickness of the thicknesses of the first line pattern R1_A and the second line pattern R2_A, wherein the first line pattern R1_A, the second line pattern R2_A, and the light-transmitting portion TOP may be defined on the same layer.
[0132] Alternatively, for example, Figure 5C As shown in FIG, the first line pattern R1_B and the second line pattern R2_B are connected to each other to provide different layers, and a grid filter 400_B having an overall shape may be provided. In this case, the light-transmitting portion TOP may be defined in such a manner that each of the first line pattern R1_B and the second line pattern R2_B is projected.
[0133] Therefore, the thickness of the grating filter 400_B may correspond to the sum of the thickness of the first line pattern R1_B and the thickness of the second line pattern R2_B, wherein the light-transmitting portion TOP may be defined on a layer different from those of the first and second line patterns R1_B and R2_B.
[0134] In the current embodiment, the light-transmitting portion TOP is defined to penetrate the grid filter 400 in a direction parallel to the third direction DR3. Therefore, the grid filter 400 may filter the incident light into light having an optical path parallel to the third direction DR3.
[0135] In addition, in the current embodiment, each light-transmitting portion TOP is shown as a rectangular shape. However, this is shown only as an example, and each light-transmitting portion TOP may have various shapes such as a circle, an ellipse, a polygon, and the extension direction or shape of each of the first line pattern R1 and the second line pattern R2 may be designed differently.
[0136] The grating filter 400 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may have various shapes as long as the grating filter 400 can define the light-transmitting portion TOP. The grating filter 400 selectively transmits light passing through the light-transmitting portion TOP, and thus may provide light having a uniform light path to the light sensing module 300 (see Figure 2 ).
[0137] Figure 6 is a schematic diagram illustrating a light detection flow of an electronic device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept.
[0138] Figure 7 It is shown Figure 6 Schematic diagram of part of the construction shown in FIG. Figure 7 Shows Figure 6The light moves in the partial configuration shown in FIG. 1 , and for ease of description, Figure 6 and Figure 7 The partial structure of a part of the electronic device is selectively and schematically shown. Figure 6 and Figure 7 Here, the same reference numerals may be given to the embodiments of the inventive concept. Figure 1 5 , and their repeated description will be omitted.
[0139] like Figure 6 As shown in FIG. 1 , when the fingerprint FNG is provided to the fingerprint detection area FRA, the display element DEM provides the detection light OL to the fingerprint detection area FRA. The detection light OL may be substantially from at least one light emitting area PXA (see FIG. 1 ). Figure 3 ) emits light.
[0140] The detection light OL may be light generated from the display element DEM to display the image IM, or additionally light generated from the display element DEM to detect the fingerprint FNG. According to an embodiment of the inventive concept, since the electronic device 1000 can use the display element DEM as a light source for fingerprint detection, the user's fingerprint FNG can be easily detected without displaying the image IM or while displaying the image IM.
[0141] After the detection light OL is incident on the fingerprint FNG, a predetermined scattered light SL may be generated. The scattered light SL is light reflected from the fingerprint FNG, and thus may have information about the fingerprint FNG. In addition, the scattered light SL may have information from the components constituting the display panel 100 (see FIG. 1 ). Figure 2 )’s components.
[0142] Reference Figure 7 , the detection light OL may be incident on the touch TC provided from the outside of the display element portion 130. The detection light OL is incident on the touch TC and then reflected from each point in the fingerprint FNG which is the surface of the touch TC, thereby generating the first scattered light SL1. The fingerprint FNG has a bent or curved surface. According to the incident point of the detection light OL with respect to the curved surface of the fingerprint FNG, reflected and scattered light may be generated in various paths. Therefore, the first scattered light SL1 may have information about the fingerprint FNG.
[0143] Next, the first scattered light SL1 passes through the display element portion 130. In this case, the second scattered light SL2 emitted from the display element portion 130 may be generated. When passing through the display element portion 130, the first scattered light SL1 may be reflected or refracted by other display elements DEM, an unillustrated insulating layer, or an unillustrated conductive pattern constituting the display element portion 130. Therefore, the second scattered light SL2 may be light having a path and intensity changed from the path and intensity of the first scattered light SL1 through the display element portion 130.
[0144] Next, the second scattered light SL2 passes through the array portion 120. In this case, the third scattered light SL3 emitted from the array portion 120 may be generated. When passing through the array portion 120, the second scattered light SL2 may be reflected or refracted by a thin film element, an insulating layer, or a signal line that is not shown and constitutes the array portion 120. Therefore, the third scattered light SL3 may be light having a path and intensity that are changed from the path and intensity of the second scattered light SL2 through the array portion 120.
[0145] Next, the third scattered light SL3 passes through the base substrate not shown and is directed toward the display panel 100 (see FIG. 1 ). Figure 2 ), and then may be provided to the optical sensing module 300. Although not shown, the third scattered light SL3 may be partially scattered while passing through the base substrate. However, since the effect may be the same as described above, its repeated description will be omitted.
[0146] Here, the third scattered light SL3 may be incident on the grid filter 400 before reaching the light sensing module 300. The grid filter 400 filters the third scattered light SL3 and provides the controlled light L-RF to the light sensing module 300. The controlled light L-RF may be light incident on the front surface of the light sensing module 300, or light having an optical path parallel to the third direction DR3.
[0147] The grid filter 400 selectively emits the light of the third scattered light SL3 that passes through the light-transmitting portion TOP. Therefore, the controlled light L-RF may include the light of the third scattered light SL3 that has an optical path parallel to the third direction DR3 and / or the light of the third scattered light SL3 that passes through the light-transmitting portion TOP and thus has a changed optical path parallel to the third direction DR3.
[0148] The electronic device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept further includes a grid filter 400, thereby improving the straightness of light incident on the light sensing module 300. The light sensing module 300 receives the collimated light in the third direction DR3, thus incident on the light detecting element PS (see Figure 4A ) can be increased. In addition, the controlled light L-RF is uniformly and straightly directed toward the lens portion LS (see Figure 4A ) is incident, so the collection efficiency of the lens part LS can be improved.
[0149] In addition, the grid filter 400 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept is directly disposed above the light incident surface of the optical sensing module 300. Therefore, even when the light having the information of the fingerprint FNG is reflected or refracted by various components and thus scattered before being incident on the optical sensing module 300, the light having the information of the fingerprint FNG can be incident on the optical sensing module 300 as the controlled light L-RF having a straight and uniform light path generated by the grid filter 400. Therefore, even when the optical sensing module 300 is disposed to be separated from the display panel 100 and disposed on the rear surface of the display panel 100, the information of the fingerprint FNG can be easily detected, so that the electronic device 1000 with improved fingerprint sensitivity can be provided.
[0150] Figure 8 Schematically shows a cross-sectional view of a portion of the electronic device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept. Figure 8 Schematically shows a cross-sectional view of an electronic panel EP having a display panel 100 and a grid filter 400-1. Figure 8 Describe the embodiments of the inventive concept. Here, the same reference numerals may be given to Figures 1 to 7 The components are the same as those of the present invention, and their repeated description will be omitted.
[0151] like Figure 8 As shown in FIG. 1 , the protective layer PL is disposed on the rear surface of the display panel 100 and thus protects the display panel 100. The protective layer PL may cover the entire surface of the rear surface of the display panel 100. The protective layer PL is disposed on the base substrate 110 (see FIG. 1 ). Figure 3 ) on the rear surface.
[0152] The protective layer PL may have an organic material. The protective layer PL may be in direct contact with the rear surface of the display panel 100, or may be bonded to the display panel 100 through an adhesive layer not shown.
[0153] The protective layer PL may have a transparent conductive material. Therefore, the light having the fingerprint information passes through the display panel 100 and the protective layer PL, and then may be emitted to the outside of the electronic panel EP.
[0154] The grid filter 400-1 may be bonded to the protective layer PL. The grid filter 400-1 may be directly disposed on the rear surface of the protective layer PL. The grid filter 400-1 may be closely attached to the protective layer PL. Therefore, a portion of light may be prevented from escaping through the gap space between the display panel 100 and the grid filter 400-1, and thus the optical sensitivity of the light sensing module 300 may be improved.
[0155] Fig.9A is a cross-sectional view schematically illustrating a partial configuration of an electronic device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept. Fig. 9B is a cross-sectional view showing an optical path of a comparative example, Fig. 9C yes Fig.9A A cross-sectional view of the optical path of the electronic device shown in FIG.
[0156] Fig.9A Shown with Figure 8 The corresponding part, Fig. 9C shows the light path being added to Fig.9A status. Fig. 9B and Fig. 9C In the optical path shown in FIG. , there is a fingerprint FNG (see Figure 1 ) is represented by relatively thick arrows, and light scattered from the surfaces of the protective layers PL-C and PL-1 is represented by relatively thin arrows.
[0157] In addition to omitting the grid filter 400-2, Fig. 9B The comparative example (EP-C) of the embodiment of the inventive concept is shown to include the same components as the embodiment of the inventive concept. That is, the display panel 100-C and the protective layer PL-C according to the comparative example (EP-C) may correspond to the display panel 100 and the protective layer PL-1 according to the embodiment of the inventive concept, respectively. 9A to 9C To describe embodiments of the inventive concept.
[0158] like Fig.9A As shown in FIG. 1 , the electronic panel EP-1 of the electronic device may have a protective layer PL-1 having an uneven rear surface PL_S. The rear surface PL_S may have a plurality of uneven portions. Therefore, the rear surface PL_S may have a rough surface. Figure 8 The protective layer PL shown in Figure 8 ) has a relatively large surface area on its rear surface.
[0159] The protective layer PL-1 may have an organic material. The protective layer PL-1 may be provided by printing a liquid phase organic material on the rear surface of the electronic panel EP-1. Here, the protective layer PL-1 may be provided by screen printing. Thus, an uneven rear surface PL_S may be provided.
[0160] The rear surface PL_S may have a plurality of uneven portions constituting an uneven surface. Light incident on the rear surface PL_S through the display panel 100 may be scattered by the uneven portions. The rear surface PL_S provides an uneven surface, and thus the haze of light radiated through the rear surface PL_S or re-incident to the display panel 100 may be increased. Therefore, it may prevent the user from viewing, from the front surface of the display panel 100, the light re-incident to the display panel 100 from the rear surface PL_S.
[0161] The grid filter 400-2 is disposed on the rear surface PL_S. Here, the grid filter 400-2 has a relatively thin thickness and can be directly disposed on the rear surface PL_S. Even when the grid filter 400-2 is disposed along the rear surface PL_S, the grid filter 400-2 has a relatively thin thickness, so the light-transmitting portion TOP can be stably provided. Therefore, the grid filter 400-2 can be stably disposed even on the rear surface PL_S having an uneven surface condition.
[0162] Reference Fig. 9B and Fig. 9C , the light with the information of the fingerprint FNG is radiated from the display panel 100 and passes through the protective layer PL-1 before reaching the light sensing module 300. As described above, the flatness of the rear surface PL_S of the protective layer PL_1 affects the direction of the incident light. In this case, the light with the information of the fingerprint FNG is also affected by the surface condition of the rear surface PL_S and then scattered.
[0163] Reference Fig. 9B , the comparative example shown does not include the grid filter 400-2. Therefore, the light sensing module 300-C receives light that is scattered by the rear surface PL_S and therefore has a high haze. The light scattered by the rear surface PL_S is guided to the light sensing module 300-C through various optical paths, or is not incident on the light sensing module 300-C, and therefore, a portion of the light escapes. The light sensing module 300-C generates an electrical signal having information different from the information of the fingerprint FNG of light, and therefore deteriorates the sensitivity of the light sensing module 300-C.
[0164] On the contrary, refer to Fig. 9C, the electronic panel EP-1 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept includes a grid filter 400-2. The scattered light passes through the grid filter 400-2 before reaching the light sensing module 300. The grid filter 400-2 receives the scattered light and then emits light L-RF having a controlled light path. The light sensing module 300 can receive light having information that is relatively similar to that of the light radiated from the electronic panel EP-1. The light L-RF having a controlled light path is more likely to be incident on the light detection element PS, and thus the sensitivity of the light detection element PS can be improved. In addition, the light L-RF having a controlled light path can be incident on the light sensing module 300 while having a uniform light path in the fingerprint detection area FRA.
[0165] [Table 1]
[0166]
[0167] Table 1 above shows the results of evaluating the light scattering characteristics of Comparative Example 1, Comparative Example 2, and one embodiment of the inventive concept. Fig. 9B The comparative example (EP-C) shown in FIG. 1 , the comparative example 2 relates to an example in which the grid filter 400 - 2 and the protective layer PL- 1 are removed, and the embodiment of the inventive concept relates to Fig. 9C In an embodiment of the inventive concept, the grid filter 400-2 is for example a line pattern R1 and R2 having a width of about 475 μm (see Figure 5A ) and a light-transmitting portion TOP having a square shape with a side length of about 200 μm (see Figure 5A The light scattering characteristics (haze) are represented by the minimum value (Min.), the maximum value (Max.) and the average value (Ave.).
[0168] As shown in Table 1, the embodiment of the inventive concept (EP-1) has a light scattering characteristic of about 66.49, which is smaller than the light scattering characteristic of about 73.01 in the comparative example (EP-C). That is, it can be confirmed that the light scattering characteristic is reduced by further including the grid filter 400-2.
[0169] In addition, Comparative Example 2 has a light scattering characteristic of about 55.27, which is smaller than the light scattering characteristic of the embodiment (EP-1) of the inventive concept. This may be the result of the protective layer PL-1 being removed, thereby removing the light scattering characteristic caused by the influence of the protective layer PL-1 itself. However, when the protective layer PL-1 is removed, the light sensing module 300 is easily viewed from the top surface of the electronic panel EP-1. Therefore, the light sensing module 300 is easily viewed by the user from the fingerprint detection area FRA, resulting in degradation of image visibility.
[0170] Although the electronic panel EP-1 according to the embodiment of the inventive concept includes the protective layer PL-1, the light scattering characteristics affected by the protective layer PL-1 may be increased, the light sensing module 300 may be easily prevented from being viewed from the outside, and the amount of light incident on the light sensing module 300 may also be increased. Therefore, the sensitivity of the light sensing module 300 may be improved.
[0171] In addition, the grid filter 400-2 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept can be easily disposed on the rear surface of the display panel 100 having an uneven surface. Therefore, even when the light scattering characteristics increase according to the surface condition of the rear surface of the electronic panel EP-1, the light sensing module 300 can stably receive the light L-RF having a controlled light path, so that the optical sensitivity of the light sensing module 300 can be uniformly maintained.
[0172] Fig. 10A is a cross-sectional view illustrating a portion of an electronic device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept. Fig. 10B and Fig. 10C is a perspective view schematically illustrating some configurations of an electronic device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept.
[0173] For ease of description Fig. 10A Shown with Figure 8 The corresponding area, Fig. 10B shows a perspective view of the electronic panel EP-2 when viewed from below, Fig. 10C Shows the difference between Fig. 10A The electronic panel EP-2 corresponds to the electronic panel EP-2_1. FIG. 10A to FIG. 10C Here, the same reference numerals may be given to the embodiments of the inventive concept. Figures 1 to 9C The components are the same as those of the present invention, and their repeated description will be omitted.
[0174] like Fig. 10A and Fig. 10B As shown in FIG. 1 , the electronic panel EP-2 includes a grille filter 400-3 and a display panel 100. The grille filter 400-3 may be disposed on the rear surface of the display panel 100 to overlap the entire surface of the display panel 100. The grille filter 400-3 completely covers the rear surface of the display panel 100.
[0175] The grid filter 400-3 may have an organic material. The grid filter 400-3 may protect the display panel 100. In the current embodiment, the grid filter 400-3 may have an organic material. Figure 8 The same material as the material of the protective layer PL shown in , and may replace the protective layer PL.
[0176] Here, although not shown, the rear surface 400_S of the grating filter 400-3 may be an uneven surface. The rear surface 400_S of the grating filter 400-3 may have a plurality of protruding portions and concave portions. Although the rear surface 400_S of the grating filter 400-3 is not a plane, the shape of the light-transmitting portion TOP may be stably maintained. According to an embodiment of the inventive concept, since a protective layer having an uneven surface is used as the grating filter 400-3, light having a stable and uniformly controlled optical path may be provided to the light sensing module without being affected by the uneven surface.
[0177] The light-transmitting portion TOP of the grating filter 400-3 may be defined only in a partial region of the grating filter 400-3. Therefore, the grating filter 400-3 may include the light-transmitting portion TOP defined in a region corresponding to the fingerprint detection region FRA. In the rear surface of the display panel 100, a region other than the fingerprint detection region FRA may be covered by the grating filter 400-3.
[0178] Alternatively, if Fig. 10C As shown in , the electronic panel EP-2_1 may include a grille filter 400-3_1 in which a light-transmitting portion TOP is defined in the entire surface of the grille filter 400-3_1. The grille filter 400-3_1 may include a light-transmitting portion TOP defined to completely overlap with the rear surface of the display panel 100. The light-transmitting portion TOP may be arranged in a matrix form throughout the grille filter 400-3_1. The light-transmitting portion TOP includes a light-transmitting portion overlapping with the fingerprint detection area FRA and a light-transmitting portion not overlapping with the fingerprint detection area FRA.
[0179] Here, this is shown only as an example. In the electronic panel EP-2_1, the fingerprint detection area FRA may be defined as being parallel to the display area DA (see Figure 2 ), the light-transmitting portion TOP filters light incident through the front surface of the display area DA and can provide the light to the light sensing module 300.
[0180] The electronic device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may include grid filters 400-3 and 400-3_1 that may filter light incident to the light sensing module and protect the display panel 100. According to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the grid filter 400-3 and the protective layer may be integrated into one body.
[0181] Fig.11 1 is a cross-sectional view showing a portion of an electronic device according to an embodiment of the inventive concept. Fig.11 Shown with Figure 8 In the following, reference will be made to Fig.11Here, the same reference numerals may be given to the embodiments of the inventive concept. Figures 1 to 10C The components are the same components, and redundant description will be omitted.
[0182] like Fig.11 As shown in , the electronic device 1000-1 may further include a protective member AM. The protective member AM is provided to the rear surface of the display panel 100 and protects the display panel 100. The protective member AM may have silicone, rubber, or sponge having a porous material, or the like.
[0183] Here, the protective member AM may have a predetermined opening AM-OP defined therein. The light sensing module 300 may be disposed in the opening AM-OP defined in the protective member AM. Therefore, the light sensing module 300 may stably receive light emitted from the display panel 100 without being affected by the protective member AM.
[0184] like Fig.11 As shown in FIG. 1 , in the electronic device 1000-1, the grid filter 400-4 may physically connect the display panel 100 and the light sensing module 300. The grid filter 400-4 may have an adhesive portion AL and a grid portion LT.
[0185] The adhesive portion AL may contact both the light sensing module 300 and the display panel 100. The adhesive portion AL may be transparent and may have an adhesive property. For example, the adhesive portion AL may include at least one of an optically clear adhesive (OCA), an optically clear resin (OCR), an optical transfer tape (OTT), and a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA).
[0186] The grid portion LT is disposed in one side of the adhesive portion AL. In the current embodiment, the grid portion LT is shown to be disposed on the rear surface of the adhesive portion AL and in contact with the light sensing module 300. Here, the grid portion LT is located closest to the light sensing module 300, and thus, light having an optical path controlled by the grid filter 400-4 can be directly provided to the light sensing module 300.
[0187] However, this is shown only as an example, and the grid portion LT may be disposed on the front surface of the adhesive portion AL and in contact with the display panel 100, or may be inserted into the adhesive portion AL and disposed spaced apart from the display panel 100 or the light sensing module 300. In this case, the bonding force between the grid filter 400-4 and the light sensing module 300 may be improved. The grid filter 400-4 according to an embodiment of the inventive concept may include the grid portion LT, and is not limited to one embodiment.
[0188] The grid portion LT may have an inorganic material. For example, the grid portion LT may be formed by depositing and printing an inorganic material having a high light blocking property onto the adhesive portion AL. Therefore, the grid filter 400-4 may use the grid portion LT having a certain thickness as a relatively thin film, thereby stably filtering the light provided to the light sensing module 300.
[0189] The electronic device 1000-1 according to the embodiment of the inventive concept can stably fix the light sensing module 300 to the rear surface of the display panel 100 through the grid filter 400-4 while achieving light path control. According to the embodiment of the inventive concept, the manufacturing process of the electronic device 1000-1 can be simplified and the processing cost can be reduced.
[0190] According to an embodiment of the inventive concept, the electronic panel detects surface information about an input applied from the outside and emits corresponding light to the rear surface of the electronic panel. In this case, the electronic panel can improve the straightness of the light emitted to its rear surface. Therefore, the electronic panel can provide light with a controlled light path to a light sensing module disposed on the rear surface of the electronic panel, thereby improving the detection accuracy or sensitivity of the light sensing module.
[0191] Furthermore, according to an embodiment of the inventive concept, even when light scattering characteristics increase due to a surface condition of a rear surface of a display panel or internal components of the display panel, a path of light incident on a light sensing module may be uniformly maintained.
[0192] While described with reference to preferred embodiments of the present disclosure, it will be understood that various changes and modifications of the present disclosure may be made by those skilled in the art or persons of ordinary skill in the art without departing from the spirit and technical field of the present disclosure as claimed.
[0193] Therefore, the technical scope of the present disclosure is not limited to the detailed description in the specification, but should be determined only by referring to the claims.
