[0009] Incidentally, it is generally strongly desired that such a light emitting device efficiently emits light with reduced luminance unevenness in a plane, reduced color unevenness, and the like.
[0010] Therefore, it is desirable to provide a light emitting device, and a display device and a lighting device including the same, so that light having high uniformity in a plane can be efficiently emitted.
[0011] A light emitting device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a light source, a wavelength conversion unit and a wall member. The light source is arranged on a substrate. The wavelength conversion unit is arranged to face the light source in the thickness direction and includes a wavelength conversion member and a transparent member. The wavelength conversion member converts a first wavelength of light from the light source into a second wavelength of light. The transparent member contains the wavelength conversion member therein. The wall member is arranged on the substrate and surrounds the light source in a plane orthogonal to the thickness direction. Here, the area occupied by the wavelength conversion member is wider than the area surrounded by the wall member and overlaps with the entire area surrounded by the wall member in the thickness direction.
[0012] It should be noted that “the wall member is provided to surround each of these light sources” is a concept that covers not only a shape in which the wall member is integrally formed to surround the light source without any gap, but also a shape in which a slit is provided for a part of the wall member. The concept further covers a shape in which the wall member includes a plurality of parts, and the plurality of parts surround a single light source as a whole, while each providing a small gap therebetween.
[0013] Further, a display device and a lighting device according to respective embodiments of the present disclosure include the light emitting device described above.
[0014] In the light-emitting device according to the embodiment of the present disclosure, the wavelength conversion member is contained in the transparent member, and the wavelength conversion member is arranged to face the light source and perform wavelength conversion. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the wavelength conversion member from being exposed to the external atmosphere including oxygen and moisture, and thereby suppress the degradation of the wavelength conversion member. Further, the area occupied by the wavelength conversion member is wider than the area surrounded by the wall member. In addition, the area occupied by the wavelength conversion member overlaps with the entire area surrounded by the wall member in the thickness direction. Therefore, the first wavelength light from the light source is substantially converted into the second wavelength light. This improves the conversion efficiency.
[0015] Another light emitting device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a light source, a wall member and a wavelength conversion unit. The light source is arranged on a substrate. The wall member is arranged on the substrate and surrounds the light source in a plane orthogonal to the thickness direction. The wavelength conversion unit includes a wavelength conversion member and a transparent member. The wavelength conversion member is arranged to face the light source in the thickness direction and convert the first wavelength light from the light source into the second wavelength light. The transparent member is placed in direct or indirect contact with the wavelength conversion member and the wall member. Here, the area occupied by the wavelength conversion member is wider than the area surrounded by the wall member and overlaps with the entire area surrounded by the wall member in the thickness direction.
[0016] Note that “the transparent member is placed in direct or indirect contact with the wavelength converting member and the wall members” means that another member such as an adhesive may be provided between the wavelength converting member and the transparent member and between the plurality of wall members and the transparent member.
[0017] In another light-emitting device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the area occupied by the wavelength conversion member is wider than the area surrounded by the wall member and overlaps with the entire area surrounded by the wall member in the thickness direction. Therefore, the first wavelength light from the light source is substantially converted into the second wavelength light. Therefore, the conversion efficiency is improved. Further, the transparent member is placed in direct or indirect contact with the wavelength conversion member and the plurality of wall members. Therefore, high heat dissipation is ensured and degradation of the wavelength conversion member is suppressed. In addition, the distance between the light source and the wavelength conversion member is short, thereby improving the luminous efficiency.
[0018] According to the light-emitting device of the embodiment of the present disclosure, it is possible to suppress the degradation of the wavelength conversion member and improve the conversion efficiency. Therefore, it is possible to effectively emit light with reduced brightness unevenness or reduced color unevenness in the plane. Therefore, according to a display device using such a light-emitting device, it is possible to achieve display performance with superior color reproducibility, etc. Further, according to a lighting device using such a light-emitting device, it is possible to illuminate a target with more consistency. It should be noted that the effects of the present disclosure are not limited to those described above, and may be any effect described below. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0055] <1. First Embodiment>
[0056] [Structure of light emitting device 1]
[0057] Figure 1 It is a perspective view of an overall structural example of the light emitting device 1 as the first embodiment of the present disclosure. Figure 2 It is an enlarged perspective view of the light emitting unit 11 which is a main part of the light emitting device 1. Figure 3 Shown along Figure 1 A cross section taken along line III-III is shown in FIG. Figure 4 1 is a further enlarged cross-sectional view of a single light emitting portion 11. For example, the light emitting device 1 is used as a backlight for illuminating a transmissive liquid crystal panel from behind, or as a lighting device in a room, etc. Figure 1 As shown in FIG. 1 , the light emitting device 1 includes a plurality of light emitting portions 11 and an optical sheet 50. The plurality of light emitting portions 11 are arranged on a substrate 10 in a matrix form, for example. The optical sheet 50 is arranged to face the plurality of light emitting portions 11 in common with the plurality of light emitting portions 11. It should be noted that Figure 1 An example is shown in which the plurality of light emitting sections 11 are arranged in both the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction which are orthogonal to each other; however, the present disclosure is not limited thereto.
[0058] In the specification, the distance direction between the substrate 10 and the optical sheet 50 is defined as the Z-axis direction (front-back direction or thickness direction). The vertical direction in the main surfaces (widest surfaces) of the substrate 10 and the optical sheet 50 is defined as the X-direction, and the horizontal direction in the main surfaces thereof is defined as the Y-direction.
[0059] (Structure of Light Emitting Unit 11)
[0060] Reference Figures 2 to 4 , a description is given of the configuration of the light emitting section 11. Each of the plurality of light emitting sections 11 includes a light emitting element 12, a holder 20, and a wavelength conversion unit 30. Here, the light emitting element 12 is a specific example of a “light source” corresponding to the present disclosure. The holder 20 is a specific example of a “wall member” corresponding to the present disclosure. The wavelength conversion unit 30 is a specific example of a “wavelength conversion unit” corresponding to the present disclosure.
[0061] The light emitting elements 12 are arranged in a matrix on the front surface 10S of the substrate 10. The light emitting elements 12 are point light sources. Specifically, the light emitting elements 12 include LEDs (light emitting diodes). The light emitting elements 12 include, for example, an optical axis CL that is consistent with the Z-axis direction. For example, the light emitting elements 12 face the rear surface 30S2 (see Figure 4 ). The light emitting element 12 may include a package structure having a light emitting layer contained in a resin layer, or may alternatively be a flip chip LED (light emitting diode) having a light emitting layer provided in an exposed manner.
[0062] The holder 20 is arranged to surround a single light emitting element 12 in an XY plane orthogonal to the Z-axis direction on the front surface 10S of the substrate 10. The holder 20 forms an air layer between the light emitting element 12 and the wavelength conversion unit 30. In other words, the light emitting element 12 is arranged on the surface 10S of the substrate 10 in an opening portion located in the middle of the holder 20. The central position in the XY plane of the holder 20 may coincide with the optical axis CL, for example. It should be noted that the holder 20 may have a shape in which the holder 20 is formed as a whole without any gap to surround the light emitting element 12. The holder 20 may alternatively have a shape in which a slot is provided for a part of the holder 20 to have a discontinuous portion. Further, the holder 20 may include a plurality of parts separated from each other. The plurality of parts may surround the single light emitting element 12 as a whole, and each of them provides a small gap therebetween. In addition, in the present embodiment, the single light emitting element 12 is arranged based on the single light emitting portion 11, and the holder 20 surrounds the single light emitting element 12; however, the present disclosure is not limited thereto. For example, a plurality of light emitting elements 12 may be provided for a single light emitting portion 11 , and the holder 20 may surround the plurality of light emitting elements 12 .
[0063] The holder 20 includes an inner wall surface 21 and a top surface 22. The inner wall surface 21 faces the light emitting element 12. The top surface 22 is located on the side opposite to the substrate 10. The inner wall surface 21 is a reflective surface that reflects the first wavelength light from the light emitting element 12. As the inner wall surface 21 approaches the wavelength conversion unit 30 from the substrate 10, the inner wall surface 21 is inclined away from the light emitting element 12. Therefore, the area of the region R21U surrounded by the upper end edge 21TU of the inner wall surface 21 in the XY plane is larger than the area of the region R21B surrounded by the lower end edge 21TB of the inner wall surface 21 in the XY plane. In other words, as the area of the region R21 approaches the wavelength conversion unit 30 from the substrate 10, the area of the region R21 in the XY plane gradually increases in the space surrounded by the inner wall surface 21 of the holder 20.
[0064] For example, the retainer 20 is formed by cutting out from a plate-like member, injection molding, hot press molding, etc. The constituent material of the retainer 20 is expected to include a high thermal conductivity material having, for example, a higher thermal conductivity than the thermal conductivity of the wavelength conversion unit 30. Specifically, examples thereof include metal materials including at least one of aluminum (Al) or copper (Cu). Alternatively, as a constituent material of the retainer 20, in addition to metal materials, thermoplastic resins may also be applied. Examples of thermoplastic resins include polycarbonate resins, acrylic resins such as PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate resin), polyester resins such as PET (polyethylene terephthalate), amorphous copolymer polyester resins such as MS (copolymer of methyl methacrylate and styrene), polystyrene resins, and polyvinyl chloride resins. Further, as in Figure 5 In the light emitting portion 11A of the first modified example shown in FIG. 1 , a thin film 21F including a high reflectivity material may be formed on the inner wall surface 21 of the holder 20. Examples of high reflectivity materials include evaporated silver film, evaporated aluminum film, or a multilayer film-reflective film. This can improve the reflectivity of the inner wall surface 21 and further improve the luminous efficiency of the light emitting device 1. It should be noted that the high reflectivity material refers to a material having a reflectivity higher than the reflectivity of the transparent material 32 of the wavelength conversion unit 30, for example.
[0065] In this light emitting device 1, a holder 20 including an inclined inner wall surface 21 is provided. This causes the first wavelength light emitted from the light emitting element 12 to be reflected on the inner wall surface 21, after which the first wavelength light travels toward the wavelength conversion unit 30. Therefore, the inner wall surface 21 of the holder 20 allows the first wavelength light emitted diagonally (in a direction inclined relative to the Z-axis direction) from the light emitting element 12 to be lifted to the forward direction (+Z direction), which thereby contributes to improving the front brightness.
[0066] It should be noted that in the light emitting device 1, the dimension W21 of the region R21U in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction is, for example, 3.5 mm. For example, the angle between the inner wall surface 21 and the front surface 10S of the substrate 10 is 45°. Further, for example, the height H20 (dimension in the Z-axis direction) of the holder 20 is 0.55 mm. Further, the dimension W12 of the light emitting element 12 in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction is, for example, 1 mm. For example, the height H12 of the light emitting point of the light emitting element 12 is 0.3 mm.
[0067] The top surface 22 of the holder 20 is in direct or indirect contact with a rear surface 30S2 (described later) of the wavelength conversion unit 30. This allows the holder 20 to function to hold the wavelength conversion unit 30. It should be noted that the direct contact of the top surface 22 of the holder 20 with the rear surface 30S2 of the wavelength conversion unit 30 refers to, for example, a state in which the top surface 22 is directly bonded to the rear surface 30S2 by melting, welding, etc. without interposing any other member therebetween. Further, the direct contact of the top surface 22 of the holder 20 with the rear surface 30S2 of the wavelength conversion unit 30 refers to, for example, a state in which the top surface 22 is indirectly bonded to the rear surface 30S2 with interposing other members such as adhesives, pressure-sensitive adhesives, etc. therebetween.
[0068] The wavelength conversion unit 30 is arranged between the light emitting element 12 and the optical sheet 50 in the Z-axis direction. The wavelength conversion unit 30 includes a wavelength conversion member 31 and a transparent member 32, which includes the wavelength conversion member 31. The wavelength conversion unit 30 is arranged to face the light emitting element 12 surrounded by the holder 20 in the Z-axis direction. In other words, the wavelength conversion unit 30 is arranged to cover a position directly above the light emitting device 12. The wavelength conversion unit 30 converts the wavelength of light (first wavelength light) entering the rear surface 30S2 from the light emitting element 12 in the wavelength conversion member 31, and outputs the second wavelength light (converted light) from the front surface 30S1, thereby, for example, improving color characteristics.
[0069] The wavelength conversion member 31 includes a phosphor (fluorescent substance) such as fluorescent pigment, fluorescent dye, or a luminescent substance having a wavelength conversion effect such as quantum dots. The wavelength conversion member 31 is based on, for example, a resin including a fluorescent material or a luminescent body processed into a sheet shape.
[0070] The wavelength conversion member 31 is excited by the first wavelength light from the light emitting element 12. The first wavelength light passes through the rear surface 30S2 and enters the rear surface 31S. Under the principle of fluorescent emission, the wavelength conversion member 31 performs wavelength conversion on the first wavelength light, thereby outputting the second wavelength light from the front surface 31S1. The second wavelength light has a wavelength (second wavelength) different from the first wavelength light. Here, the first wavelength and the second wavelength are not specifically limited. However, for example, in the case of display device application, the first wavelength light can be blue light (for example, a wavelength range from about 440nm to about 460nm), and the second wavelength light can be red light (for example, a wavelength range from about 620nm to about 750nm) or green light (for example, a wavelength range from about 495nm to about 570nm). In other words, the light emitting element 12 is a blue light source. In such a case, the wavelength conversion member 31 performs wavelength conversion from blue light to red light or green light.
[0071] The wavelength conversion member 31 preferably includes quantum dots. Quantum dots are particles with a long diameter ranging from about 1nm to 100nm, and have discrete energy levels. The energy state of the quantum dot depends on its size, and therefore the change in size allows the emission wavelength to be freely selected. Further, the emission light of the quantum dot has a narrow spectrum width. The color gamut is expanded by combining light with such a steep peak. Therefore, using quantum dots as wavelength conversion materials allows the color gamut to be easily expanded. In addition, quantum dots have high responsiveness, thus allowing the light from the light emitting element 12 to be effectively utilized. In addition, the stability of quantum dots is also high. Quantum dots are, for example, compounds of group 12 elements and group 16 elements, compounds of group 13 elements and group 16 elements, or compounds of group 14 elements and group 16 elements. Examples of quantum dots include CdSe, CdTe, ZnS, CdS, PdS, PbSe, and CdHgTe.
[0072] In the XY plane, the region R31 occupied by the wavelength conversion member 31 is wider than the region R21U surrounded by the upper end edge 21TU of the holder 20. Further, the region R31 overlaps the entire region R21U surrounded by the holder 20 in the Z-axis direction (see Figure 4 ). In other words, the end edge of the wavelength conversion member 31 in the XY plane extends beyond the upper end edge 21TU of the holder 20. Therefore, the first wavelength light from the light emitting element 12 is prevented from directly entering the optical sheet 50 without passing through the wavelength conversion member 31. In other words, all the first wavelength light from the light emitting element 12 enters the wavelength conversion member 31 through the transparent member 32 and undergoes wavelength conversion, after which the converted light travels toward the optical sheet 50. As a result, brightness non-uniformity and color non-uniformity are sufficiently reduced.
[0073] In addition, in the light emitting device 1, the size of the region R31 occupied by the wavelength conversion member 31 in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction is, for example, 3 mm. The size W32 of the region R32 occupied by the transparent member 32 in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction is, for example, 3.8 mm. In addition, the thickness H31 of the wavelength conversion member 31 is, for example, 0.2 mm. The thickness H32 of the transparent member 32 is, for example, 0.5 mm.
[0074] The transparent member 32 protects the wavelength conversion member 31 by sealing the wavelength conversion member 31 so that the wavelength conversion member 31 is not exposed to the air containing oxygen and moisture. The transparent member 32 includes, for example, a transparent material such as glass or resin. The wavelength conversion member 31 serves as an effective portion for wavelength conversion of light from the light emitting element 12, while the transparent member 32 serves as an ineffective portion for allowing light to be transmitted therethrough without wavelength conversion of the incident light.
[0075] The wavelength conversion unit 30 is placed on the top surface 22 of the holder 20. In other words, as described above, the rear surface 30S2 (transparent member 32) of the wavelength conversion unit 30 is in direct or indirect contact with the top surface 22 of the holder 20, which allows the wavelength conversion unit 30 to be held by the holder 20. In this light emitting device 1, a plurality of wavelength conversion members 31 (wavelength conversion units 30) are provided to be divided for each light emitting portion 11. Therefore, for example, compared with a single wavelength conversion sheet extending along the entire surface of the front surface 10S of the substrate 10, the amount of material used is saved, which is advantageous in terms of cost saving and weight reduction.
[0076] Furthermore, in the light emitting device 1, as in Figure 6 In the light emitting section 11B of the second modified example shown in FIG. 1 , for example, a lower reflection layer 33 may be provided to cover the rear surface 30S2. The lower reflection layer 33 has a reflectivity lower than the reflectivity of the inner wall surface 21. The first wavelength light that directly reaches the rear surface 30S2 from the light emitting element 12 or is reflected at the inner wall surface 21 and then reaches the rear surface 30S2 is less likely to be reflected at the rear surface 30S2. This causes a reduction. The first wavelength light emitted from the light emitting element 12 is substantially subjected to wavelength conversion by the wavelength conversion member 31.
[0077] Furthermore, in the light emitting device 1, as in Figure 7 In the light emitting section 11C of the third modified example shown in FIG. 1 , for example, a lower wavelength selective reflection layer 34 may be provided to cover the rear surface 30S2. This is because it is possible to remove light components of an unnecessary wavelength region and select light components of a desired wavelength region, thereby allowing the selected light components to enter the wavelength conversion member 31.
[0078] The optical sheet 50 is arranged to face the front surface 30S1 of the wavelength conversion unit 30. The optical sheet 50 includes, for example, a diffusion plate, a diffusion sheet, a lens film, a polarization separation sheet, etc. Providing such an optical sheet 50 can allow the light emitted obliquely from the light emitting element 12 or the wavelength conversion unit 30 to be lifted to the forward direction, which leads to further improvement of the front brightness.
[0079] [Function and Effect of Light Emitting Device 1]
[0080] In the light emitting device 1, the light emitting element 12 of the light emitting portion 11 is a point light source. Therefore, the first wavelength light emitted from the light emitting element 12 propagates in a full 360-degree direction from the light emission center of the light emitting element 12. The first wavelength light emitted from the light emitting element 12 directly enters the rear surface 30S2 of the wavelength conversion unit 30, or is reflected on the inner wall surface 21 of the holder 20 and then enters the rear surface 30S2. The first wavelength light that has entered the wavelength conversion unit 30 is converted into the second wavelength light by the wavelength conversion member 31, and then the converted light is output from the front surface 30S1. Finally, the converted light passes through the optical sheet 50 and is observed as emitting light.
[0081] In the light emitting device 1 according to the present embodiment, the wavelength conversion member 31 is contained in the transparent member 32, which is arranged to face the light emitting element 12 and perform wavelength conversion. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the wavelength conversion member 31 from being exposed to air including oxygen and moisture, and thereby suppress the degradation of the wavelength conversion member 31. Further, the region R31 occupied by the wavelength conversion member 31 is wider than the region R21U surrounded by the holder 20. In addition, the region R31 overlaps with the entire region R21U in the thickness direction. Therefore, the first wavelength light from the light emitting element 12 is substantially converted into the second wavelength light without leakage. Therefore, the occurrence of color unevenness is suppressed, and the conversion efficiency at each light emitting portion 11 is improved. Therefore, the color unevenness and the luminous efficiency of the entire light emitting device 1 are also improved.
[0082] In the light emitting device 1 according to the present embodiment, the wavelength conversion unit 30 is placed on the top surface 22 in such a manner as to be in direct contact or indirect contact with the holder 20. Therefore, the heat of the luminescence conversion member 31 is absorbed by the holder 20 through the transparent member 32 and thus easily dissipated to the outside. Therefore, high heat dissipation is ensured, and degradation of the wavelength conversion member 31 due to overheating is suppressed. In addition, compared with the case where the wavelength conversion unit 30 is spaced apart from the holder 20, the distance between the light emitting element 12 and the wavelength conversion member 31 becomes shorter. Therefore, it is expected that the luminous efficiency is improved.
[0083] In the light emitting device 1 according to the present embodiment, the holder 20 has a reflecting function of reflecting the first wavelength light from the light emitting element 12 toward the wavelength conversion unit 30. In addition, the holder 20 also has a holding function of holding the wavelength conversion unit 30. This allows a more compact configuration, which is advantageous in terms of size reduction, higher integration, and lower cost reduction.
[0084] As described, according to the light emitting device 1, the conversion efficiency can be improved while suppressing the degradation of the wavelength conversion member 31. Therefore, light with reduced brightness unevenness or reduced color unevenness in a plane can be effectively emitted. Therefore, according to a display device using the light emitting device 1, display performance with excellent color reproducibility and the like can be achieved. Further, according to a lighting device using such a light emitting device 1, a target can be illuminated more uniformly.
[0085] <2. Second Embodiment>
[0086] [Structure of light emitting device 2]
[0087] Figure 8 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of a main part of a light emitting device 2 according to a second embodiment of the present disclosure. The light emitting device 2 includes a wavelength conversion unit 30A instead of the wavelength conversion unit 30. In the wavelength conversion unit 30A, the wavelength conversion member 31 is not sealed by the transparent member 32, but is placed on a sheet-like or plate-like transparent member 35. The transparent member 35 includes a front surface 35S1 and a rear surface 35S2. The wavelength conversion member 31 is placed on the front surface 35S1. The rear surface 35S2 is in direct or indirect contact with the top surface 22 of the holder 20. Except for these points, the light emitting device 2 has a configuration similar to that of the light emitting device 1 according to the first embodiment.
[0088] [Function and effect of light emitting device 2]
[0089] Also in such a light emitting device 2, the region R31 occupied by the wavelength conversion member 31 is wider than the region R21U surrounded by the holder 20. Further, the region R31 overlaps the entire region R21U in the thickness direction. Therefore, the first wavelength light from the light emitting element 12 is substantially converted into the second wavelength light without leakage. Therefore, the occurrence of color unevenness is suppressed, and the conversion efficiency at each light emitting portion 11 is improved. Therefore, the color unevenness and the light emitting efficiency of the entire light emitting device 2 are also improved.
[0090] In the light emitting device 2, the wavelength conversion unit 30A is placed on the top surface 22 in such a manner as to be in direct contact or indirect contact with the holder 20. Therefore, the heat of the luminescence conversion member 31 is absorbed by the holder 20 through the transparent member 35 and thus easily dissipated to the outside.
[0091] In the light emitting device 2 according to the present embodiment, the holder 20 has a reflecting function of reflecting the first wavelength light from the light emitting element 12 toward the wavelength conversion unit 30. In addition, the holder 20 also has a holding function of holding the wavelength conversion unit 30. This allows a more compact configuration, which is advantageous in terms of size reduction, higher integration, and lower cost reduction.
[0092] Therefore, it is expected that the light emitting device 2 achieves similar effects to those of the light emitting device 1 .
[0093] <3. Third Embodiment>
[0094] Fig. 9 The appearance of a display device 101 according to a third embodiment of the present technology is shown. The display device 101 includes a light emitting device 1 and is used, for example, for a thin television device. [0096] Fig.11 Shown in decomposition Fig.10 1. The panel module 112 is shown in FIG. The panel module 112 includes, for example, in order from the front side (observer side), a front housing (top housing) 121, a liquid crystal panel 122, a frame-shaped member (middle housing) 123, an optical sheet 50, a light source unit 1, a rear housing (rear housing) 124, and a timing controller board 127. The light source unit 1 includes a plurality of light emitting portions 11 arranged on a substrate 10.
[0097] The front housing 121 is a frame-shaped metal component covering the front periphery of the liquid crystal panel 122. The liquid crystal panel 122 has, for example, a liquid crystal element 122A, a source substrate 122B, and a flexible substrate 122C such as a COF (chip on film). The flexible substrate 122C couples the liquid crystal element 122A and the source substrate 122B together. The frame-shaped member 123 is a frame-shaped resin component that holds the liquid crystal panel 122 and the optical sheet 50. The rear housing 124 is a metal component of a metal such as iron (Fe), and includes the liquid crystal panel 122, the frame-shaped member 123, and the light-emitting device 1. [0098] In the display device 101, light from the light emitting device 1 is selectively transmitted by the liquid crystal panel 122 for image display. Here, the display device 101 includes the light emitting device 1 having excellent light emission efficiency and improved planar color uniformity as described in the first embodiment, so that the display quality of the display device 101 is enhanced.
[0099] Note that the case where the display device 101 includes the light emitting device 1 according to the first embodiment has been described in the above embodiment. However, the display device 101 may include the light emitting device 2 according to the second embodiment instead of the light emitting device 1.

[0103] <5. Application examples of lighting equipment>
[0104] Fig.13 and Fig.14Each shows the appearance of a desktop lighting device to which the light emitting device 1 according to the above-described embodiment is applied, for example. For example, this lighting device includes a lighting portion 843 attached to a support column 842, the support column being provided on a base mount 841, and the lighting portion 843 includes, for example, the light emitting device 1. Forming, for example, the substrate 10 and the optical sheet 50 into a curved shape allows the lighting portion 843 to take any form, such as Fig.13 The cylindrical shape shown in Fig.14 The curved shape shown in FIG.
[0105] Fig.15 The appearance of an indoor lighting device to which the light emitting device 1 of the above-described embodiment is applied is shown. This lighting device has, for example, a lighting section 844, which includes, for example, the light emitting device 1. An appropriate number of lighting sections 844 are arranged on a ceiling 850A of a building at appropriate intervals. It should be noted that the installation position of the lighting section 844 is not limited to the ceiling 850A, but the lighting section 844 can be installed at any position such as a wall 850B or a floor (not shown) depending on the desired use.
[0106] In these lighting apparatuses, lighting is performed using, for example, light from a light emitting device 1. Here, each of the lighting apparatuses includes, for example, a light emitting device 1 having superior light emitting efficiency and improved planar brightness distribution, so that lighting quality is enhanced.
[0107] <6. Experimental Examples>
[0108] (Experimental Examples 1-1 to 1-3)
[0109] Samples of the light emitting device 1 including the light emitting section 11 described in the first embodiment were manufactured to compare the state of color unevenness. Specifically, the light emitting element 12 in a single light emitting section 11 of the light emitting device 1 was lit, and the chromaticity distribution at a position just above the wavelength conversion unit 30 was measured. FIG. 16A to FIG. 16C and Fig.17 The results are shown in . FIG. 16A to FIG. 16C is a characteristic diagram showing chromaticity distribution in the XY plane. FIG. 16A to FIG. 16C Corresponding to Experimental Examples 1-1 to 1-3 respectively. FIG. 16A to FIG. 16C , the horizontal axis represents the position in the X-axis direction, and the vertical axis represents the position in the Y-axis direction. Fig.17 This is a characteristic diagram showing the chromaticity change in the X-axis direction as a curve. Fig.17 , the horizontal axis represents the distance (in mm) from the optical axis CL in the X-axis direction, and the vertical axis represents the chromaticity.
[0110] Further, in each sample of the above-mentioned light emitting device 1, 25 pieces of light emitting parts 11 were arranged, each with an interval of 11 mm (5 rows×5 columns), and all the light emitting parts 11 were lit to measure the chromaticity distribution of light transmitted through the optical sheet 50. 18A to 18C and Fig.19 The results are shown in . 18A to 18C is a characteristic diagram showing chromaticity distribution in the XY plane. 18A to 18C Corresponding to Experimental Examples 1-1 to 1-3 respectively. 18A to 18C , the horizontal axis represents the position in the X-axis direction, and the vertical axis represents the position in the Y-axis direction. Fig.19 This is a characteristic diagram showing the chromaticity change in the X-axis direction as a curve. Fig.19 , the horizontal axis represents the distance (in mm) from the optical axis CL in the X-axis direction, and the vertical axis represents the chromaticity.
[0111] Here, the dimension W31 of the wavelength conversion member 31 was set to 3.8 mm in Experimental Example 1-1, 4.0 mm in Experimental Example 1-2, and 3.5 mm in Experimental Example 1-3 (see Figure 4 ). The conditions other than their dimensions are the same in Experimental Examples 1-1 to 1-3. Specifically, the wavelength conversion unit 30 is set to have a thickness H31 of 0.2 mm and a thickness H32 of 0.5 mm. Quantum dots are used for the wavelength conversion member 31. Glass is used for the transparent member 32. Further, the holder 20 is set to have a dimension W21 of 3.5 mm, a height H20 of 0.55 mm, and an angle of 30° at the inner wall surface 21 relative to the front surface 10S. Further, for the light-emitting element 12, a blue light LED package is used, which has a dimension W12 of 1 mm and a light-emitting point height H12 of 0.3 mm. Further, the distance OD from the front surface 10S of the substrate 10 to the rear surface of the optical sheet 50 (the surface facing the light-emitting portion 11) is set to 10 mm.
[0112] As in Fig. 16C and Fig.17 As shown in (curve 17C3), in Experimental Example 1-3, a state in which blue light leaked from the vicinity of the end edge of the wavelength conversion member 31 was confirmed. This is presumably because the size W31 of the region R31 is the same as the size W21 of the region R21U. In other words, the reason is that a portion of the blue light from the light emitting element 12 is transmitted through the transparent member 32 covering the end edge of the wavelength conversion member 31, and is output from the front surface 30S1 without undergoing wavelength conversion.
[0113] On the contrary, as in Fig.16A and Fig.17As shown in (curve 17C1), in Experimental Examples 1-1 and 1-2, blue light leakage was not visually confirmed even near the end edge of the wavelength conversion member 31. This is because the size W31 of the region R31 is larger than the size W21 of the region R21U, and the region R31 occupied by the wavelength conversion member 31 overlaps the entire region R21U.
[0114] Further, as from 18A to 18C and Fig.19 As is apparent from the figure, after transmitting light through the optical sheet 50 including the diffusion sheet, the color unevenness in the XY plane is reduced more in Experimental Examples 1-1 and 1-2 than in Experimental Example 1-3. Fig.19 , curve 19C1 corresponds to experimental example 1-1, and curve 19C3 corresponds to experimental example 1-3.
[0115] As described, according to the present disclosure, it was confirmed that color unevenness was sufficiently reduced.
[0116] <7. Other Modifications>

Fig.21 In the light emitting portion 11D shown in FIG. 1 , for example, the plane shape of the wavelength conversion unit 30, the outer edge of the holder 20, the plane shape of the opening, etc. may be formed in a circular shape. In such a case, the plane shapes of all the light emitting portions in the light emitting device may be the same shape, or some of them may be different shapes.
