Description

Invention Field

[0001] This invention relates to hair care compositions. More specifically, this invention relates to hair care compositions comprising piroctone ethanolamine. Background of the Invention

[0003] Dandruff is a condition experienced by many people worldwide. Symptoms range from mild peeling to severe scalp inflammation and itching. Malassezia yeasts, such as Malassezia furfur, are considered by some to be a major cause of dandruff. While this may not represent the full scientific picture, Malassezia yeasts do appear to be closely associated with dandruff. Therefore, the common strategy for treating dandruff is to apply topical antifungal medications such as zinc pyrithione (ZnPTO), piroctone olamine, clomiprazole, and ketoconazole, which are typically delivered through shampoo.

[0004] Piroctone ethanolamine (also known as Piroctone ethanolamine is a compound commonly used to treat fungal infections. It is the ethanolamine salt of pyroctone olamine, an isohydroxamic acid derivative. Piroctone ethanolamine possesses antifungal properties, making it ideal for controlling the root cause of dandruff, a common fungus called Malassezia globosa. It is frequently used in anti-dandruff shampoos as an alternative to the commonly used compound zinc pyrithione. Typically, pyroctone ethanolamine is dissolved in a shampoo base composition that includes surfactants, water, siloxanes, polymers, and coloring and fragrance ingredients. When the user applies this composition to the hair and scalp, some of the pyroctone ethanolamine compound deposits on it.

[0005] Generally, the effectiveness of anti-dandruff shampoos or conditioners depends on the amount of anti-dandruff active ingredients deposited on the scalp and hair, as more deposits mean higher bioavailability.

[0006] However, the presence of metal salts reduces the efficacy of piroctone ethanolamine because deposited piroctone ethanolamine has lower bioavailability due to its tendency to react with metal salts. Metal salts are known to be introduced from raw materials and manufacturing processes, tap water during and after product application, and sweat in daily life. Therefore, there is a need to develop products that mitigate this phenomenon and provide higher efficacy. Summary of the Invention

[0007] The inventors have identified a novel way to improve the bioactivity of anti-dandruff agents such as piroctone olamine. We have determined that the stability of piroctone olamine can be improved by co-formulating it with polyaspartic acid or its derivatives and a specific surfactant system. Furthermore, the inventors believe that polyaspartic acid or its derivatives can enhance the bioactivity of piroctone olamine after it has been deposited on the scalp, because polyaspartic acid or its derivatives can be readily deposited on the scalp upon application.

[0009] (i) Anionic surfactants;

[0010] (ii) Amphoteric or zwitterionic surfactants;

[0011] (iii) Piroctone ethanolamine;

[0012] (iv) Polyaspartic acid or its derivatives represented by the structure of Formula 1

[0013]

[0014] The sum of m+n ranges from 2 to 10000, and R1 and R2 are independently selected from H, OH, and (O). m G and m are 0 or 1, G is independently selected from H and substituted or unsubstituted C1-C12 organic groups, and M1 and M2 are independently selected from H, metal salts, or ammonium salts, wherein non-limiting examples of metal salts include Na, K, Ca, Mg, and Al salts; and

[0015] (v) A cosmetically acceptable carrier.

[0016] The weight ratio of the polyaspartic acid or its derivative to the pyrrolidone ethanolamine in the composition is at least 2:3.

[0017] According to a second aspect, a method for treating dandruff is disclosed, comprising the step of topically applying the composition of the first aspect to the desired scalp surface. Invention Details

[0020] As used herein, "hair care composition" refers to a composition that is applied topically to the hair or scalp of mammals, particularly humans. Topically means applying the composition to an external surface of the body. In this invention, this is achieved by applying the composition to the hair or scalp. Such compositions are generally categorized as leave-in or wash-off and include any product intended to improve the appearance, cleanliness, odor control, or overall aesthetics of the scalp and hair. The hair care compositions of this invention may be in the form of liquids, lotions, creams, foams, scrubs, gels, shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, or strips. Preferably, the hair care compositions of this invention are leave-in compositions. Alternatively, the hair care compositions of this invention are wash-off compositions. Compositions that obtain the desired benefits through human ingestion are excluded from the scope of this invention.

[0021] Polyaspartic acid or its derivatives

[0022] The compositions according to the invention comprise polyaspartic acid or a derivative thereof represented by the structure of Formula 1:

[0023]

[0024] The sum of m+n ranges from 2 to 10000, and R1 and R2 are independently selected from H, OH, and (O). mG and m are 0 or 1, G is independently selected from H and substituted or unsubstituted C1-C12 organic groups, and M1 and M2 are independently selected from H, metal salts or ammonium salts, wherein non-limiting examples of metal salts include Na, K, Ca, Mg and Al salts.

[0025] Preferably, when m is 0, G is independently selected from substituted or unsubstituted C1-C9 organic groups, and when m is 1, G is independently selected from substituted or unsubstituted C1-C2 organic groups.

[0026] Preferably, polyaspartic acid or its derivatives can be represented by the structure of Formula 1, wherein the sum of m+n is 2 to 10000, R1 and R2 are independently selected from H and OH, and M1 and M2 are independently selected from H, metal salts or ammonium salts, wherein non-limiting examples of metal salts include Na, K, Ca, Mg and Al salts.

[0027] Preferably, polyaspartic acid or its derivatives can be represented by the structure of Formula 1, wherein the sum of m+n is 2 to 10000, R1 and R2 are H, and M1 and M2 are independently selected from H, metal salts or ammonium salts, wherein non-limiting examples of metal salts include Na, K, Ca, Mg, and Al salts.

[0028] More preferably, polyaspartic acid or its derivatives can be represented by the structure of Formula 1, where the sum of m+n is 10 to 50, R1 and R2 are H, and M1 and M2 are independently selected from H, metal salts or ammonium salts, wherein non-limiting examples of metal salts include Na, K, Ca, Mg, and Al salts.

[0029] Of particular preference is that the polyaspartic acid derivative is sodium polyaspartate.

[0030] The amount of polyaspartic acid or its derivatives in the compositions of the present invention depends on the amount of pyrrolidone ethanolamine used. Preferably, the composition contains 0.1 to 10% by weight of polyaspartic acid or its derivatives, more preferably 0.5 to 5% by weight, and even more preferably 1 to 2% by weight.

[0031] Not wanting to be bound by theory, the inventors believe that polymers or polymer derivatives capable of complexing with metal ions can improve the stability of piroctone ethanolamine during application of the composition, and can also improve the bioactivity of piroctone ethanolamine after deposition on the scalp, because polymers or polymer derivatives are more easily deposited on the scalp compared to other common metal chelating agents (e.g., EDTA, citric acid, etc.).

[0032] Surprisingly, the inventors have discovered that polyaspartic acid or its derivatives exhibit better performance in improving the stability of pyrrolidone ethanolamine compared to other polymers or polymer derivatives.

[0033] Furthermore, the inventors also believe that the bioactivity of piroctone ethanolamine can be enhanced after it is deposited on the scalp, because polyaspartic acid or its derivatives can be easily deposited on the scalp upon application.

[0034] Piroctone ethanolamine

[0035] Piroctone ethanolamine is the ethanolamine salt of pyroctone, an isohydroxamic acid derivative. Piroctone is a typical antimicrobial active substance. It is commonly known as pyroctone ethanolamine and is traded under the name...

[0036] The pyrrolidone ethanolamine according to the present invention is a 1:1 compound of 1-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)-2(1H)-pyridone and 2-aminoethanol, also known as 1-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)-2(1H)pyridone monoethanolamine salt. CAS number 68890-66-4, this compound has the following general formula:

[0037]

[0038] Some anti-dandruff hair care products contain piroctone olamine. It has been found that dissolved, intact piroctone olamine molecules are the only bioactive form of piroctone olamine. When hair care products containing piroctone olamine are used, the piroctone olamine dissociates and forms a complex with metal ions (e.g., iron ions) derived from tap water or sweat. The stability of the bioactive substance is affected by these metal ions, thus reducing its anti-dandruff efficacy.

[0039] The amount of piroctone ethanolamine in the compositions of the present invention will depend on the type of hair care composition and the exact nature of any other anti-dandruff agents used. Preferably, the composition contains 0.1 to 10% by weight of the piroctone ethanolamine, more preferably 0.5 to 5% by weight, and even more preferably 0.5 to 2% by weight.

[0040] The weight ratio of polyaspartic acid or its derivative to pyrrolidone ethanolamine in the composition is at least 2:3, preferably at least 1:1, and more preferably at least 2:1. Preferably, the weight ratio of polyaspartic acid or its derivative to pyrrolidone ethanolamine in the composition is from 2:3 to 85:1, preferably 1:1 to 85:1, more preferably 2:3 to 20:1, more preferably 1:1 to 10:1, further preferably 2:1 to 10:1, and most preferably 2:1 to 5:1.

[0054] Suitable cationic polymers include homopolymers with cationic substitution, or can be formed from two or more types of monomers. The weight-average molecular weight (M) of the polymer... w The molecular weight is typically between 100,000 and 3 million Daltons. The polymer will have cationic nitrogen-containing groups, such as quaternary ammonium or protonated amino groups, or mixtures thereof. If the molecular weight of the polymer is too low, the conditioning effect will be poor. If it is too high, there may be a problem with high tensile viscosity, resulting in stringiness of the composition when poured.

[0055] Cationic nitrogen-containing groups are typically present as substituents on a portion of the total monomer units of cationic polymers. Therefore, when the polymer is not a homopolymer, it can contain spaced non-cationic monomer units. Such polymers are described in the CTFA Cosmetic Ingredient Directory, Third Edition. The ratio of cationic to non-cationic monomer units is chosen to give the polymer a cationic charge density within a desired range, typically from 0.2 to 3.0 meq / g. The cationic charge density of the polymer is suitably determined by the Kjeldahl method, as described in the Chemical Tests for Nitrogen Determination in the United States Pharmacopeia.

[0056] Suitable cationic polymers include copolymers of vinyl monomers having cationic amine or quaternary ammonium functional groups with water-soluble spacer monomers such as (meth)acrylamide, alkyl and dialkyl (meth)acrylamide, alkyl (meth)acrylates, vinylcaprolactone, and vinylpyrrolidine. Alkyl and dialkyl-substituted monomers preferably have C1-C7 alkyl groups, more preferably C1-3 alkyl groups. Other suitable spacers include vinyl esters, vinyl alcohol, maleic anhydride, propylene glycol, and ethylene glycol.

[0057] The cationic amine can be a primary, secondary, or tertiary amine, depending on the specific type of composition and the pH value. Generally, secondary and tertiary amines are preferred, especially tertiary amines.

[0058] Amine-substituted vinyl monomers and amines can be polymerized in the form of amines and then converted to ammonium via quaternization.

[0059] Cationic polymers may comprise monomer units derived from amine- and / or quaternary ammonium-substituted monomers and / or a mixture of compatible spacer monomers.

[0060] Suitable cationic polymers (non-limiting examples) include:

[0062] - Inorganic acid salts of homopolymers and copolymers of unsaturated carboxylic acids having 3 to 5 carbon atoms, including amino-alkyl esters (as described in U.S. Patent 4,009,256);

[0063] - Cationic polyacrylamide (as described in WO95 / 22311).

[0064] Other cationic polymers that can be used include cationic polysaccharide polymers, such as cationic cellulose derivatives, cationic starch derivatives, and cationic guar gum derivatives.

[0065] A particularly suitable type of cationic polysaccharide polymer is cationic guar gum derivatives, such as guar hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride (available from Rhodia under the JAGUAR trademark series). Examples of such materials are JAGUAR C13S, JAGUAR C14, and JAGUAR C17.

Galactomannan consists of a backbone of 1→4-linked β-D-mannopyranosyl main chain units (also called mannoside units or residues) with repeating 1→6-linked α-D-galactose side groups (also called galactoside units or residues) branching from the 6th carbon atom of the mannnopyranose residues in the polymer backbone. Galactomannan from different leguminous species differs in the frequency of occurrence of galactoside side units branching from the polymannoside backbone. Mannosides and galactoside units are collectively referred to as glycoside units or residues herein. The average ratio of mannosides to galactoside units in galactomannan contained in guar gum (hereinafter referred to as "guar gum") is approximately 2:1.

[0080] Preferably, the carboxylic acid is carbomer, such as a homopolymer of acrylic acid crosslinked with allyl ether of pentaerythritol or allyl ether of sucrose.

[0081] A mixture of any of the above materials may also be used.

[0082] Preferably, the hair care composition of the present invention comprises 0.1 to 3.0%, more preferably 0.4 to 1.5% by weight of a carboxylic acid polymer.

[0083] In formulations containing anionic polymeric rheology modifiers (such as the carboxylic acid polymers described above), it is typically necessary to neutralize at least a portion of the free carboxyl groups by adding an inorganic or organic base. Examples of suitable inorganic or organic bases include alkali metal hydroxides (e.g., sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide), sodium carbonate, ammonium hydroxide, methylamine, diethylamine, trimethylamine, monoethanolamine, triethanolamine, and mixtures thereof.

The term "water-soluble" as used herein means a solubility in water of at least 1 gram, more preferably at least 3 grams, and most preferably at least 5 grams, in 100 grams of distilled water at 25°C and 1 atmosphere. This level indicates the production of macroscopically isotropic or transparent, colored, or colorless solutions.

[0087] Methylcellulose and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose are available from Dow Chemical. The trademark series was acquired in various viscosity grades.

[0088] Any mixture of nonionic cellulose ethers may also be suitable. In typical compositions according to the invention, the level of nonionic cellulose ether is typically in the range of about 0.01 to about 2.0% based on the total weight of the composition, and preferably in the range of 0.1 to 0.5%, more preferably from 0.1 to 0.3%.

[0121] In the presence of metal salts stability

[0122] A 10% FeCl3·6H2O aqueous solution was prepared and added to the above-mentioned shampoo sample. The final concentration of FeCl3·6H2O was 0.1%, and the percentages of other active ingredients were unaffected. The above shampoo composition was colorless; however, it turned red immediately upon the addition of iron salts. The inventors discovered that when the FeCl3·6H2O aqueous solution was added to a solution containing... When added to a shampoo composition, it turns pale yellow. Therefore, it is speculated that the red color comes from... A complex formed with iron ions.

[0123] The color of the above composition after adding FeCl3·6H2O was measured using a Hunterlab UltraScan Pro (Hunter Associates Laboratory, Inc.). EasyMatchQC version 4.12 software was used for instrument control and data acquisition. The measurement mode was TTRAN-full transmission, and the color of deionized water was set as the background.

[0124] The values in Table 4 below represent the intensity of the red color. A higher red intensity indicates that more of the composition reacts with the metal salt. and retain less free

[0125] Table 4

[0126] Composition C D 3 Intensity of red (au) 46.95±0.026 37.32±0.016 28.42±0.008

[0127] The data in Table 4 clearly demonstrate that, compared to corresponding embodiments other than those of the present invention (Composition C - without polyaspartic acid or its derivatives, Composition D - a combination without the surfactants of the present invention), when the composition according to the present invention (Composition 3) is used in the experiment, in the presence of a metal salt, Its stability has been improved.

[0128] Example 3: Compared with other chelating agents used as polymers or their derivatives, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) exhibits superior performance in the presence of metal ions. aspartic acid or its derivatives The impact on stability.

[0129] Prepare the following compositions as shown in Table 5.
