Technical Field

[0003] The disclosed embodiments relate generally to the field of tracks and track assemblies for retractable blinds and, more particularly, to adjustable roller tube assemblies, self-tensioning magnetic tracks and track assemblies and anchoring systems for motorized retractable blinds.

[0004] Overview

[0005] Over the past two decades, motorized retractable shades have gained popularity due to their practicality and versatility for temporarily enclosing spaces. For example, many restaurants and other businesses with patio / outdoor areas utilize retractable shades to temporarily enclose those areas, thereby creating an environmentally controlled area that is protected from inclement weather conditions (e.g., windy and / or cold weather conditions).

[0006] While these retractable blinds have great versatility and utility, there are several problems with the blinds and tracks / track assemblies currently available on the market. For example, the tracks and track assemblies currently available on the market are fixed tracks that hold the blinds in a taut, aesthetically pleasing manner once the blinds are deployed. Although these fixed tracks / track assemblies hold the blinds in a taut, aesthetically pleasing manner, these fixed tracks allow very little movement (e.g., deployment and / or contraction) of the blinds, such as in high wind conditions. As a result, in high wind conditions, these blinds may (1) twist, bend, and / or distort the fixed tracks / track assemblies, (2) damage the blinds, or (3) any combination thereof. These problems result in frequent, expensive repairs and / or replacements of the fixed tracks / track assemblies and the blinds. Another problem with current retractable blind systems is that stretching of the blind material, wrinkling / creases in the blind material, sagging of the roller tube, uneven weight distribution or tension, and / or pleating of the blind material on the roller tube may cause undesirable artifacts to become visible on the blind. Summary of the invention

[0007] In one or more arrangements, a retractable blind system is provided. The system includes a roller tube having an outer surface. A blind is connected to the roller tube and an upper edge of the blind. When the roller tube is rotated in a first direction, the blind is rolled up around the outer surface of the roller tube, thereby retracting the blind, and when the roller tube is rotated in an opposite direction, the blind is unwound from the roller tube, thereby deploying the blind.

[0008] In one or more embodiments, the system includes a track assembly configured to operably connect the side edges of the blind to a structure. In one or more arrangements, the track assembly uses a novel magnet arrangement in the track assembly, thereby allowing the blind attached thereto to be deployed under high wind pressures / conditions. Specifically, magnets with opposite polarities in the track and track assembly are separated from each other, thereby allowing the blind to be deployed when subjected to high wind pressures. However, after the high wind pressure subsides, the magnetic attraction of the separated magnets pulls the separated magnets toward each other, while tensioning the blind to provide an aesthetically pleasing, taut blind.

[0009] In one or more arrangements, the track assemblies each include a track having a first side wall and a second side wall. In one or more arrangements, the track assemblies each include a blind receiver located within the track between the first side wall and the second side wall. The blind receiver is configured to operably connect to and retain the first side edge of the blind while allowing the blind to be raised and lowered. In one or more arrangements, a first retainer is connected to the first side wall of the track, and a second retainer is connected to the second side wall of the track. The first retainer and the second retainer are configured to prevent the blind receiver from leaving the track.

[0010] Additional features, aspects, and advantages provided by some of the various embodiments are set forth in the following detailed description, and will in part become apparent to those skilled in the art from the specification, drawings, and claims presented herein. [0115] As used herein, various disclosed embodiments may be described primarily in the context of retractable roller blinds. However, the embodiments are not limited thereto. It should be appreciated that the embodiments may be suitable for use in a variety of other applications that may be improved by the disclosed structures, arrangements, and / or methods. For ease of description and as one of countless examples, the support system is only shown and described as being used in the context of a retractable roller blind.

[0116] System 10 :

[0117] Referring to the drawings, a retractable shade system 10 (or simply system 10) is presented. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the retractable shade system 10 includes a housing 12, a shade 14, a roller tube assembly 16, a motor assembly 18 (not shown), a track assembly 20, and a bottom rod assembly 22, among other components. In one or more arrangements, when installed, the system 10 is configured to move the shade 14 between an extended position and a retracted position to selectively close or open an opening 26 of a structure 24, the opening having opposing sides 28, an upper end 30, and a lower end 32. The opening 26 may include, but is not limited to, for example, a window, a doorway, a skylight, an arch, or any other type of opening. In one or more arrangements, the roller tube assembly 16 and the motor assembly 18 are positioned along the upper end 30 of the opening 26 and are operably connected to the shade 14 to extend / retract the shade 14 during operation. The track assembly 20 is positioned along each side 28 of the opening 26 and is operably connected to the shade 14 and guides the shade 14 along the sides 28 of the opening 26 when the shade is extended / retracted.

[0118] Housing 12 :

[0119] The housing 12 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and is configured to house and retain the various components of the system 10 to facilitate the functioning of the system 10 and to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance, as further described herein. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the housing 12 has an elongated generally rectangular shape having a front portion 34 extending a certain length between opposite outer ends 42, a back portion 36, a top portion 38, and a bottom portion 40; an end cap 44 and a bracket member 46, as well as other components, features, and elements.

[0120] Back 36:

[0121] The back 36 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to form a portion of the housing 12 and enclose the rear side of the housing 12. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the back 36 is a generally planar shaped member that extends from an upper edge 50 to a lower edge 52 between the opposite outer ends 42 of the housing 12. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, when the housing 12 is installed in a rear-mounted application, fasteners 48, such as screws, bolts, staples, nails, rivets or the like, extend through the back 36 and into the structure to which the housing 12 is installed. However, the arrangement is not limited to this. Specifically, it is contemplated that in various arrangements, the back 36 can be fixed to the structure using various means and / or methods, including but not limited to, for example, friction fit, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, stitching, sewing, fasteners and / or any other means or methods of connection.

[0122] Front 34:

[0123] The front portion 34 may also be referred to or referred to in the industry as a trim plate. The front portion 34 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to form a portion of the housing 12 and enclose the front side of the housing 12. In one example arrangement shown, as an example, the front portion 34 has an elongated, slightly curved, generally planar shape that extends from an upper edge 54 to a lower edge 56 between the opposite outer ends 42 of the housing 12.

[0124] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the upper edge of the front portion 34 is connected to the front edge of the top portion 38. In this example arrangement, a curved corner portion connects the lower edge 56 of the front portion 34 to the front edge of the bottom portion 40. However, any other shapes are hereby contemplated for use as the front portion 34, including but not limited to, for example, a planar shape, a multi-faceted shape, a contoured shape, or any other shape that provides a different aesthetic appearance.

[0125] Top 38:

[0126] The top 38 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to form a portion of the housing 12 and enclose the upper side of the housing 12. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the top 38 is a generally planar shaped member that extends between the opposite outer ends 42 of the housing 12 between a front edge 58 and a rear edge 60. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the rear edge 60 of the top 38 is connected to the upper edge 50 of the back 36, and the front edge 58 of the top 38 is connected to the upper edge 54 of the front 34.

[0127] In one or more arrangements, when the housing 12 is installed in a top-mounted application, the fasteners 48 extend through the top 38 and into the structure to which the housing 12 is mounted. However, the arrangements are not limited thereto. Rather, it is contemplated that in various arrangements, the top 38 may be secured to the structure using various means and / or methods, including, but not limited to, for example, friction fit, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, stitching, sewing, fasteners, and / or any other means or methods of connection.

[0128] Bottom 40:

[0129] The bottom 40 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to form a portion of the housing 12 and enclose the underside of the housing 12. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the bottom 40 is a generally planar shaped member that extends rearwardly from a front edge 62 between the opposite outer ends 42, wherein the bottom 40 is connected to the lower edge 56 of the front 34 and to the rear edge 64. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the housing 12 has an elongated opening 66 in the bottom 40 that extends a certain length between the opposite outer ends 42 between the rear edge 64 of the bottom 40 and the lower edge 52 of the back 36. This opening 66, which may also be referred to as a slot, allows the blind 14 to pass therethrough so that the blind 14 passes therethrough when it is lowered or raised during operation. In one or more arrangements, the housing 12 has a lint brush 68 connected to the lower edge 52 of the back and the rear edge 64 of the bottom 40. The velvet brush 68 seals the gaps between the blind 14 and the lower edge 52 of the housing 12 f and between the blind 14 and the rear edge 64 of the housing 12 f.

[0130] End cap 44:

[0131] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the housing 12 includes an end cap 44 at each outer end 42 of the housing 12. The end cap 44 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to form a side of the housing 12 and enclose the outer end 42 of the housing 12. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the end cap 44 is a generally planar shaped member extending between a top edge 72, a bottom edge 74, a front edge 76, and a rear edge 78, which are aligned with the front 34, the back 36, the top 38, and the bottom 40, respectively, and connected at the outer end 42 of the housing 12. In one or more arrangements, the end cap 44 has one or more tabs 80 extending inwardly from the top edge 72, the bottom edge 74, the front edge 76, and / or the rear edge 78 to facilitate connection with the front 34, the back 36, the top 38, and / or the bottom 40. In one or more arrangements, when the housing 12 is installed in a side-mounted application, the fasteners 48 extend through the end cap 44 and into the structure to which the housing 12 is mounted. However, the arrangements are not limited thereto. Rather, it is contemplated that in various arrangements, the end cap 44 may be secured to the structure using various additional or alternative means and / or methods.

[0132] Bracket member 46:

[0133] The bracket member 46 (not shown) is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to facilitate connection of the roller tube assembly 16 to the housing 12. In one or more arrangements, the bracket member is located near the outer end 42 of the housing 12, inward of the end cap 44.

[0134] In the illustrated arrangement, once the housing 12 is assembled, a hollow interior 84 is formed, which contains and retains the drum tube assembly 16. In one or more arrangements, as an example, the front portion 34, the back portion 36, the top portion 38, the bottom portion 40, and / or the end caps 44 can be connected to each other using various known methods and / or means, including but not limited to, for example, clamps, snaps, pins, fasteners, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, sewing, and / or any other connecting means or methods. Additionally or alternatively, in one or more arrangements, one or more sets of the front portion 34, the back portion 36, the top portion 38, the bottom portion 40, and / or the end caps 44 can be formed as a unitary component.

[0135] However, embodiments are not limited to the shell 12 shapes and / or components described herein. Rather, it is contemplated that any other size, shape, design, or configuration is hereby contemplated for use as the shell 12. In an alternative arrangement, the shell 12 is not used, but instead in such an arrangement, the drum tube assembly 16 is connected to and / or held in place by the bracket member 46 alone, without using the front portion 34, the back portion 36, the top portion 38, and / or the bottom portion 40.

[0136] Blinds 14 :

[0137] The shade 14 is formed in any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to extend across the opening 26 of the structure 24 and to be operably connected to the roller tube assembly 16 located at the upper end 30 of the opening 26 and the track assembly 20 located on the sides 28 of the opening 26. In one or more arrangements, the shade 14 is formed from a generally rectangular sheet of material 96 extending between a top edge 90, a bottom edge 92, and opposing side edges 94.

[0138] In various arrangements, the blind 14 may be formed of various materials to provide various features / functions for different applications. Such features / functions may include, but are not limited to, for example, shade, privacy, barrier, and / or protection from adverse environmental factors (wind, rain, insects, extreme temperatures, blowing sand and / or objects, etc.), and / or any other features / functions that may be desired. In various arrangements, the material 96 may be formed of various known materials, including, but not limited to, for example, natural fibers (e.g., cotton), carbon fibers, Kevlar, polyaramid, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, nylon, modified acrylic olefins, acrylic, polyester or other synthetic fibers, and / or plastic cloth, or any other blind material.

[0139] As an illustrative example, in an installation in an indoor / outdoor living space, the material 96 of the blind 14 can be formed of a mesh material that is selected to allow air exchange with the outside while providing shade and providing a mosquito barrier. In the same indoor / outdoor space, the material 96 of the blind 14 can alternatively be formed of a translucent or transparent flexible plastic material, for example, to isolate the space from the outside in colder months while maintaining visibility to the outside. As another illustrative example, in one or more arrangements, the system 10 can be installed outside of windows, doors, and / or other openings 26 of the structure 24 to protect the openings 26 from damage caused by flying debris during high wind conditions (e.g., hurricanes, tropical storms, tornadoes, and other weather events). For such applications, in one or more embodiments, the material 96 of the blind 14 can be formed of an ultra-strength blind material that is strong enough to withstand hurricane-level winds. Such materials for the blind 14 may include, but are not limited to, bulletproof materials such as Kevlar, polyaramide, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, or materials of similar strength. As yet another illustrative example, in one or more arrangements, system 10 may include a shade 14 having a material 96 having reflective properties suitable for use as a projection screen.

[0140] In one or more arrangements, the shade 14 can be formed from a combination of materials to provide the desired combination of features / functions provided. For example, in one or more arrangements, the shade 14 includes a mesh material 96 (e.g., to provide airflow and insect protection for indoor / outdoor areas) and a window 98 of translucent or transparent flexible plastic material located in the center of the material 96 to better see outside.

[0141] Interlocking device 100 / 102 / 104:

[0142] In one or more arrangements, the shade 14 includes an interlock 100 extending along the side edge 94 of the shade 14 to facilitate operably connecting the shade 14 to the shade receiver 146 of the track assembly 20. Additionally or alternatively, in one or more arrangements, the shade 14 includes an interlock 102 extending along the top edge 90 of the shade 14 to facilitate operably connecting the shade 14 to the roller tube assembly 16. Additionally or alternatively, in one or more arrangements, the shade 14 includes an interlock 104 extending along the bottom edge 92 of the shade 14 to facilitate operably connecting the shade 14 to the bottom rail assembly 22.

[0143] The interlocking device 100 / 102 / 104 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to operably connect the blind to the connection feature of the blind receiver 146 of the track assembly 20 (and / or the roller tube assembly 16 and / or the bottom bar assembly 22). In the illustrated arrangement, the interlocking device 100 / 102 / 104 is a circular interlocking device (sometimes referred to as a side bar interlocking device) that is configured to be inserted into and retained in the c-shaped channel of the blind receiver 146 of the track assembly 20 (or the roller tube assembly 16). However, the embodiments are not limited to this. Specifically, it is contemplated that the interlocking device 100 / 102 / 104 can be implemented using various types of interlocking devices, including but not limited to, for example, side bar interlocking devices, zipper interlocking devices, ropes, beaded chains, low-profile interlocking devices, or any similar interlocking devices known in the art).

[0144] In one example implementation, the interlock 100 / 102 / 104 includes an elongated length of seaming material 108 that is folded longitudinally around a length of round cord 106 and attached to the material 96 along the edge of the shade 14. In some various arrangements, the seaming material 108 of the interlock 100 / 102 / 104 can be attached to the shade 14 using various techniques and / or various combinations thereof known in the art, such as gluing, chemical bonding, welding, stitching, sewing, staples, rivets, and / or any other means of connection or any combination thereof. Some additional interlock implementations are discussed in more detail in U.S. Patent Publication No. 2021 / 0262284, published on August 26, 2021, and entitled “Retractable Screen Systems,” which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.

[0145] Roller tube assembly 16 :

[0146] The roller tube assembly 16 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to connect to the housing 12 and facilitate connecting the shade 14 to the housing 12 while facilitating opening and closing of the shade 14. In the illustrated arrangement, the roller tube assembly 16 includes a roller tube 114 that is configured to operably connect to the bracket member 46 of the housing 12.

[0147] Roller tube 114:

[0148] The roller tube 114 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design, and the blind 14 can be rolled up on the roller tube so as to open or close the blind 14 when the roller tube 114 rotates. For example, when the roller tube assembly 16 rotates along a first rotation direction, the blind 14 is rolled up on the outer surface of the roller tube 114, thereby opening the blind 14, and when the roller tube assembly 16 rotates along a second rotation direction opposite to the first rotation direction, the blind 14 is unwound from the roller tube 114, thereby closing the blind 14.

[0149] In the illustrated arrangement, as one example, the roller tube 114 is an elongated, generally cylindrical outer surface 122 that extends a length between opposite ends 116 .

[0150] In one or more arrangements, the system 10 may utilize the interlock 102 to connect the upper end of the shade 14 to the receiver 124 of the roller tube 114 .

[0151] The receiver 124 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and is configured to receive and retain to the top edge 90 of the blind 14. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the receiver 124 is a c-shaped channel 126 in the outer surface 122, which is configured to receive and retain the circular interlocking device 102 via an opening 128 at the outer end of the channel 126. However, the embodiments are not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that in one or more arrangements, the channel 126 can be shaped to receive an interlocking device 102 of any shape (e.g., circular, triangular, square, rectangular, T-shaped, V-shaped, L-shaped, U-shaped, or any other shape). Furthermore, it is contemplated that in one or more arrangements, the receiver 124 can be additionally or alternatively connected to the blind 14 using various known methods and / or means, including but not limited to, for example, clamps, snaps, pins, fasteners, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, sewing, and / or any other connection means or connection methods.

[0152] Length adjustment member 120:

[0153] In one or more arrangements, the interlocking device 100 located on the side edge 94 of the shade 14 facilitates operative connection with the shade receiver 146 of the track assembly 20. For example, in one or more arrangements, the interlocking device 100 located on the side edge 94 is inserted into the opening 170 of the channel 166 at the upper end 160 of the shade receiver 146 of the track assembly 20. The shade 14 can be retracted by rotating the roller tube assembly 16 and thereby rolling the shade 14 around the outer surface 122 of the roller tube 114 and / or the outer surface 134 of the length adjustment member 120. However, the interlocking device 100 is generally thicker than the material 96 of the shade 14, for example, so as to be held in place by the shade receiver 146. In some implementations, the seam 108 (at which the interlocking device 100 is attached to the shade 14) can have a thickness between the seam of the material 96 and the cord 106 of the interlocking device 100. Due to the difference in thickness, the cord 106 and / or seam 108 of the interlocking device 100 will increase the circumference more when rolled on the tube than the material 96 of the shade 14. If the circumference is increased at the side edge 94 of the shade 14, such as by the interlocking device 100, each rotation of the roller tube 114 will cause the shade 14 to roll up more at the edge than at other points along the roller tube 114, which may produce undesirable defects 118 visible in the shade 14, such as edge wrinkles. In one or more embodiments, the roller tube assembly 16 includes a length adjustment member 120 operably connected to the roller tube 114.

[0154] The length adjustment member 120 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and is configured to adjust the effective length of the roller tube 114. As used herein, "effective length" refers to the combined length of the roller tube 114 and any member (e.g., length adjustment member 120) attached to the end of the roller tube. As an illustrative example, consider an imaginary tube extending 48 inches between opposite ends of the imaginary tube. If a 3-inch long extension member is attached to one end of the imaginary tube, the effective length of the tube is 51 inches. If the same 3-inch extension member is slid outward two inches, the effective length of the tube is 53 inches.

[0155] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the length adjustment member 120 is a generally cylindrical collar having an outer surface 134 extending between opposite ends 132. In one or more arrangements, the cylindrical outer surface 134 of the length adjustment member 120 has a shape similar to the shape of the outer surface 122 of the drum tube 114, for example, a c-shaped channel of one or more receivers 144 extending between the ends 132 to facilitate insertion of the interlock 102 into the c-shaped channel 126 of the receiver 124 of the drum tube 114. However, embodiments are not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that in one or more arrangements, the c-shaped channel 126 / receiver 124 may be omitted from the length adjustment member 120. In such embodiments, the interlock 102 at the top edge 90 of the shade 14 may be inserted into the c-shaped channel 126 / receiver 124 of the drum tube 114 prior to attaching the length adjustment member 120.

[0156] In the illustrated arrangement, the length adjustment member 120 has a collar shape configured to fit over the end 116 of the drum tube 114 and be operably connected to the end 116 of the drum tube 114 via a connecting member 136 , such as an inner tube or shaft.

[0157] In various implementations, the effective length may be adjusted using various mechanisms, for example, by changing the location at which the length adjustment member 120 is attached to the connecting member 136 and / or the location at which the connecting member 136 is attached to the drum tube 114. The location at which the connecting member 136 is attached to the drum tube 114 and / or the length adjustment member 120 may be fixed using any manner, method, or means known in the art, including but not limited to, for example, fasteners (e.g., screws, bolts, staples, rivets, and the like), compression collars, threads, friction fit, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, and / or any other connection means or methods.

[0158] In one or more arrangements, the length adjustment member 120 can be moved to and secured at an infinite number of positions relative to the roller tube 114, thereby facilitating adjustment of the effective length to an infinite number of different lengths.

[0159] In one or more arrangements, the system 10 includes a plurality of fixed length adjustment members 120 of different lengths that can be added to and / or removed from the drum tube 114 to facilitate adjusting the drum tube 114 to various effective lengths as desired. Additionally or alternatively, in one or more arrangements, the length of the length adjustment member 120 may be adjustable. For example, in one or more arrangements, the length adjustment member 120 may have a telescopic arrangement that allows the length of the length adjustment member 120 to be increased or decreased as desired.

[0160] By adjusting the effective length of the roller tube 114, the system 10 can be adjusted so that the shade 14 extends beyond the end 116 of the roller tube 114 to accommodate a thicker interlocking device 100 (e.g., cord 106 and / or seam 108) and thereby prevent the interlocking device 100 from increasing in circumference when the shade 14 is rolled up.

[0161] Similarly, the effective length of the roller tube 114 can be adjusted so that when the roller tube 114 rotates, the blind 14, the seam 108 of the interlock 100, and / or the cord 106 engage the outer surface of the roller tube 114 and / or the length adjustment member 120. By adjusting the effective length so that the blind 14, the seam 108 of the interlock 100, and / or the cord 106 roll up when the roller tube 114 rotates, the effective rate at which one side of the blind 14 is deployed or retracted when the roller tube 114 rotates can be adjusted.

[0162] See also Fig.12 A, in the arrangement shown, as an example, in the fully retracted position, the effective length of the drum tube 114 is shortened so that the seam 108 and / or the cord 106 of the interlocking device 100 on the side of the blind 14 extend beyond the outer end 132 of the length adjustment member 120 (attached to the drum 32 via the connecting member 136). In this position, the blind 14 rolls flat around the outer circumference of the drum tube 114 / length adjustment member 120. This represents a minimum speed or minimum gear ratio.

[0163] See also Fig.12 B, in the partially extended or intermediate position, the effective length of the roller tube 114 is partially extended so that the cord 106 of the interlock 100 extends beyond the outer end 132 of the length adjustment member 120, while the seam 108 rests against the outer surface 134 of the length adjustment member 120. In this position, as the roller tube 114 rotates, the seam 108 rolls up around the length adjustment member 120. Because the seam 108 is thicker than the material 96 of the blind 14, each rotation of the roller tube 114 in the partially extended position will roll up more of the blind 14 than in the fully retracted position. In this way, the effective rate at which the blind 14 is rolled up is increased. This represents an intermediate rate or intermediate gear ratio.

[0164] See also Fig.12 C, in the fully extended position, the effective length of the roller tube 114 is extended, so the cord 106 of the interlock 100 does not extend beyond the outer end 132 of the length adjustment member 120. In this position, as the roller tube 114 rotates, the thicker cord 106 of the interlock 100 rolls up around the length adjustment member 120. Because the cord 106 of the interlock 100 is thicker than the seam 108 and the blind 14, each rotation of the roller tube 114 in this position will roll up more of the blind 14 than in other positions. In this way, the effective rate at which the blind 14 is rolled up is further increased. This represents the maximum rate or maximum gear ratio.

[0165] Although three effective length positions are shown, embodiments are not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that in one or more embodiments, the length adjustment member 120 (e.g., the length adjustment member 120 and the connecting member 136) can be adjusted to a greater or lesser number of positions. It is further contemplated that in one or more embodiments, the length adjustment member 120 can be adjusted to an infinite number of positions.

[0167] When the shade 14 extends beyond the roller tube assembly 16 (e.g., the end of the roller tube 114 or the end of the length adjustment member 120), more space is available to accommodate the interlocking device 104 (e.g., the cord 106 and the seam 108) when the shade 14 is rolled up around the roller tube 114 / length adjustment member 120. However, it has been observed that creases may form in the shade 14 over time, next to the end of the roller tube assembly 16. Surprisingly, it has been found that providing a curved edge on the end of the roller tube assembly 16 (e.g., the outward outer end 132 of the length adjustment member 120) helps prevent creases from forming in the shade 14, even when rolled up for long periods of time.

[0168] In one or more arrangements, the length adjustment member 120 has a bend 138 at the outer end of the end 132 ; thereby allowing the shade 14 to extend beyond the end of the length adjustment member 120 without forming a fold in the shade 14 .

[0169] In this example arrangement, the curved portion 138 of the length adjustment member 120 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to provide a curved outer surface to support portions of the shade 14 that are suspended above the roller tube assembly 16 .

[0170] In one arrangement shown, as an example, the curved portion 138 has a generally cylindrical outer surface extending from an inner end 142, wherein the diameter of the curved portion 138 matches the diameter of the roller tube 114 to the outer end 140, wherein the curved portion 138 has a smaller diameter. In this example, the outer surface 142 has a curved shape with a diameter that decreases from the inner end 142 to the outer end 140. In one or more embodiments, the outer surface of the curved portion 138 is shaped to have a smooth curve that is substantially free of edges, bevels, and / or other transitions that are sharp enough to cause creases to form in the overlying shade 14.

[0171] In some embodiments, the curved portion 138 can be formed as an integral part of the length adjustment member 120. However, the embodiments are not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that in one or more arrangements, the curved portion may be a separate component (e.g., an end cap) configured to be attached to the end 132 of the length adjustment member 120.

[0172] Although the curved portion 138 is primarily described as being formed on the outer end 132 of the length adjustment member 120, the embodiments are not limited thereto. Specifically, in some various arrangements, one or both of the length adjustment members 120 may be omitted, and the blind 14 may be suspended over the end 116 of the roller tube 114. In such an arrangement, the end 116 of the roller tube 114 may include a curved portion (not shown) to similarly prevent creases from forming in the blind 14.

[0173] Length adjustment during operation:

[0174] As an illustrative example, a porch of a house typically has a floor that slopes away from the house to ensure that rainwater flows away from the house. Installing the retractable shade system 10 on the sloped side of the porch can be particularly challenging because it may be desirable that the bottom of the shade 14 is parallel to the slope of the floor. Therefore, when the shade 14 is unfolded so as to be flush with the floor, the side of the shade 14 close to the house may need to be shorter than the side away from the house. However, if the shade 14 is evenly wound on the roller tube assembly 16, a portion of the shade 14 will remain unfolded when the short side is fully retracted. According to one or more embodiments, the installation technician can adjust the effective length of the roller tube assembly 16 via the length adjustable member 35 so that the thicker seam 108 and / or the rope 106 of the interlocking device 100 on the longer side of the shade 14 are rolled up around the roller tube assembly 16 when rotating. In this way, the installation technician can adjust the amount by which the longer side of the shade 14 will retract more relative to the shorter side each time the roller tube assembly 16 rotates, thereby balancing the shade 14 to evenly and perfectly raise and lower.

[0175] Motor assembly 18 :

[0176] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the system 10 with the track assembly 20 includes a motor assembly 18. The motor assembly 18 is formed in any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to facilitate motorized operation of the system 10.

[0177] The motor assembly 18 may be formed of any type of motor and may be connected to the drum tube assembly 16 in any manner that facilitates rotation of the drum tube assembly 16. In the illustrated arrangement, as one example, the motor assembly 18 is an electric motor that is positioned within the hollow interior of the drum tube assembly 16 adjacent the end of the drum tube assembly 16. Positioning the motor assembly 18 within the hollow interior of the drum tube assembly 16 provides a sleek arrangement in which the motor assembly 18 is contained within the other components of the system 10, thereby minimizing the size and space requirements of the system 10.

[0178] In one arrangement, as shown, the motor assembly 18 is a self-contained assembly that includes a motor, a gear assembly, a drive wheel, and an electronic controller assembly, among other components. In this self-contained assembly arrangement, the system 10 is motorized by mounting a single component (the motor assembly 18) within the drum tube assembly 16, thereby providing convenience, minimal installation, ease of use, and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. In one arrangement, the motor assembly 18 is controlled by transmitting a control signal to the motor assembly 18 via a wired connection. In another arrangement, the motor assembly 18 is controlled by wireless control by transmitting a control signal to the motor assembly 18 via a wireless connection to an antenna connected to the motor assembly 18.

[0179] In one arrangement, the motor assembly 18 is connected to an external voltage through a wired connection, such as through a connection to the line power of a house or building, thereby providing an unlimited power source for the motor assembly 18. Alternatively, the motor assembly 18 is connected to a battery power source, a solar module or solar cell, or any combination thereof, such as to line power with a backup battery, and the use of a solar cell to recharge the battery is hereby contemplated.

[0180] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, once the roller tube assembly 16 is assembled, with the motor assembly 18 therein, the roller tube assembly 16 is mounted within the hollow interior 84 of the housing 12. In doing so, the outer end of the roller tube assembly 16 is connected to the bracket member 46 and the roller tube assembly 16 is able to rotate within the hollow interior 84 of the housing 12, thereby raising and / or lowering the shade 14 through the opening 66, thereby raising and / or lowering the bottom bar assembly 22 along with the shade 14.

[0181] Track assembly 20 :

[0182] The track assembly 20 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to operably connect the side edge 94 of the shade 14 with the side 28 of the opening 26 while allowing the shade 14 to move up and down along the track assembly 20. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the track assemblies 20 each include a shade receiver 146, a track 1 and a retainer 150, among other components.

[0183] Blind storage 146:

[0184] The shade receiver 146 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to be located within the elongated channel 186 of the track 148 and to operably connect the side edge 94 of the shade 14 to the track 148. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the shade receiver 146 has an elongated generally rectangular planar shaped body 154 having a shade side surface 156 and an opposing side surface 158 extending from an upper end 160 to a lower end 162 between opposing side edges 164. In this example arrangement, the shade receiver 146 has a first channel 166 located on the shade side surface 156. The channel 166 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to receive and retain the side interlocking device 100 connected to the side edge 94 of the shade 14 while allowing the shade 14 to move up and down in operation. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the channel 166 is a c-shaped channel that is configured to receive and retain the side circular interlocking device 100 via the opening 170 of the c-shaped channel 166 at the upper end 160 of the shade receiver 146. However, the embodiments are not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that in one or more arrangements, the channel 126 can be shaped to receive an interlocking device 100 of any shape (e.g., circular, triangular, square, rectangular, T-shaped, V-shaped, L-shaped, U-shaped, or any other shape).

[0185] In one or more arrangements, the blind receiver 146 includes a second channel 172 located on the opposite side surface 158 of the body 154 of the blind receiver 146. The channel 172 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design, and is configured to receive and retain the magnetic member 220 to facilitate magnetic coupling of the blind receiver 146 with the track 148. In the illustrated arrangement, the channel 172 is a c-shaped channel that is configured to receive and retain a generally rectangular magnetic member 220 inserted into the channel 172 via an opening 176 at the upper end 160 or the lower end 162. The magnetic member 220 can then be moved along the channel 172 to a desired position (e.g., aligned with the magnetic member 218 of the track 148) and secured in place. In one or more arrangements, the magnetic member 220 is secured in place by placing a pleat 178 in the channel 172 on each side of the magnetic member 220. However, the arrangement is not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that the magnetic component 220 may be secured at a desired position in the channel 172 using a variety of means and / or methods, including but not limited to, for example, crimping, friction fit, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, stitching, sewing, fasteners (e.g., staples, screws, nails, bolts, rivets, etc.) and / or any other connecting means or methods).

[0186] Funnel 180:

[0187] In one arrangement, the blind receiver 146 includes a funnel 180. The funnel 180 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and is configured to help facilitate insertion of the interlock 100 into the c-shaped channel 166 of the blind receiver 146. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the funnel 180 is shown connected to the opening 170 of the channel 166 at the upper end of the blind receiver 146 to facilitate insertion of the interlock 100. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the upper end of the funnel 180 is generally cone-shaped and angled such that the funnel widens as it extends upward.

[0188] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the funnel 180 includes arms 182 extending downwardly from the lower end of the cone of the funnel 180, which fit within the channel 172 of the blind receiver 146, which receives the magnets of the blind receiver 146. The engagement between the arms 182 within the channel 172 connects the funnel 180 to the blind receiver 146. However, it is hereby contemplated to use any other manner, method or means of connecting the funnel 180 to the blind receiver 146, such as fastening, screwing, bolting, welding, crimping, pinning, adhering, friction fit or the like. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the cone at the upper end of the funnel 180 includes a slot 184. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, when the arms 182 of the funnel 180 are inserted into the channel 172 of the blind receiver 146, the slots 184 of the funnel 180 align with the open slots in the channel 172, thereby providing a pathway for the blind material 96 to enter the slots of the blind receiver 146. The installation of the funnel 180 facilitates the insertion of the blind material 96 and the interlocking device 100 into the blind receiver 146. In addition, by adding the funnel 180 as a second separate piece, which is preferably made of a smooth and durable plastic, the cost of the system 10 is reduced while improving performance and longevity.

[0189] Track 148:

[0190] The track 148 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to attach to the structure 24 along the side 28 of the opening 26 and provide an elongated channel 186 configured to receive and retain the shade receiver 146 when the track assembly 20 is assembled.

[0191] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the track 148 has an elongated generally rectangular shape extending from an upper end 188 to a lower end 190, with opposing side walls 192 extending between a shade-facing side 196 and a shade-opposing side 198. In the illustrated arrangement, the elongated channel 186 is a generally c-shaped channel formed by the side walls 192 and end walls 202 extending between the opposing side walls 192, with a channel opening 200 in the shade-facing side 196.

[0192] In one or more arrangements, the elongated channel 186 is configured to receive and retain the shade receiver 146 within a compartment 206 between the side walls 192, the compartment being formed by a set of inner baffles 210 and a set of outer baffles 214. The inner baffles 210 are located on the opposite side wall 192, closer to the shade-facing side 196, and extend a distance inwardly toward the interior of the elongated channel 186. The outer baffles 214 are located on the opposite side wall 192, farther from the shade-facing side 196, and extend a distance inwardly toward the interior of the elongated channel 186. The compartment 206 is adapted to securely receive the shade receiver 146 while allowing the shade receiver 146 to move laterally between the inner baffles 210 and the outer baffles 214 toward and away from the shade 14.

[0193] Hurricane Bracket 370 :

[0194] In one arrangement, the system 10 is used in conjunction with a hurricane-proof bracket 370. The hurricane-proof bracket 370 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to reinforce the system 10 so that the system can withstand hurricane-force winds. In many applications of the system 10, hurricanes and other wind events are present. To combat damage from hurricanes and to meet hurricane-proof building codes, in one arrangement, a hurricane-proof bracket 370 is used that reinforces the magnetic track assembly 20, or more specifically the elongated channel 186, so that the channel does not deform and allows the shade receiver 146 to escape the hollow compartment 146 of the elongated channel 186 even in the strongest wind conditions.

[0195] See also Fig.25 As an example, the hurricane bracket 370 is presented as having end walls, a front wall, and a rear wall forming a hollow interior that is sized and shaped to snugly receive the magnetic track assembly 20 therein and in some cases frictionally engage and / or lockably engage, and is configured to provide strength and rigidity to the magnetic track assembly 20 so as to reinforce it for hurricanes. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the front wall is spaced apart from the rear wall by a distance just sufficient to receive a magnetic track assembly 20 of a certain width therein. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the hurricane bracket 370 extends a length just long enough to extend to and / or beyond the length of the front and rear sides of the magnetic track assembly 20 therein. As such, when the hurricane bracket 370 is in use, the magnetic track assembly 20 is entirely or completely received within the hollow interior of the hurricane bracket 370.

[0196] Fig.26Another example hurricane bracket 370 configured for use with a built-in installation is shown. In this example arrangement, the hurricane bracket 370 is presented as having end walls and a front wall forming an L-shaped bracket that is configured to be mounted on the magnetic track assembly 20 in a built-in installation. In the illustrated arrangement, the hurricane bracket 370 has channels that align with channels of the magnetic track assembly 20 to facilitate attachment of the magnetic track assembly 20 and the hurricane bracket 370 to a structure via fasteners (e.g., screws, bolts, or other fasteners) that are driven through the hurricane bracket 370 and the magnetic track assembly 20 and into the structure.

[0197] For additional information regarding the structure and operation of some example hurricane brackets, reference may be made to U.S. Patent Publication 2021 / 0262284, entitled “RETRACTABLE SCREEN SYSTEMS,” published on August 26, 2021, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety herein.

[0198] Self-tensioning of blinds :

[0199] In one or more arrangements, the track assembly 20 uses a novel magnet arrangement in the track assembly that allows the shade receiver 146 to move laterally inward, thereby allowing the attached shade 14 to unfold under high wind pressure, thereby avoiding tearing or other damage, and after the high wind pressure subsides, the magnetic attraction pulls the shade receiver 146 outward, thereby tensioning the attached shade 14 to provide an aesthetically pleasing, taut shade. Thus, the novel magnet arrangement of the disclosed track assembly 20 provides a "self-tensioning" system that works effectively while taking into account fluctuations in weather conditions, ensuring an increased service life of the shade 14 and track assembly 20, while reducing the frequent maintenance (and / or replacement) associated with currently marketed shades, tracks / track assemblies, or combinations thereof.

[0200] In one or more embodiments, the track assembly 20 includes a set of magnetic components 218 and 220 (e.g., a pair of magnets with opposite polarities or magnets paired with ferrous materials or magnetic components) to magnetically couple the shade receiver 146 to the track 148. For example, in one or more arrangements, the first magnetic component 218 is operably connected to the end wall 202 of the track 148, and the second magnetic component 220 is operably connected to the shade receiver 146. Due to the magnetic coupling, the shade receiver 146 is pulled away from the shade and into the elongated channel 186 to a retracted position in which the magnetic components 218 and 220 are in close proximity to each other. In the retracted position, the shade receiver tensions the shade 14 to provide an aesthetically pleasing, taut shade 14 without applying a strong force to the shade 14. When the shade 14 is subjected to high wind pressure or other strong forces, the magnetic components 218 and 220 can separate from each other, thereby allowing the shade receiver 146 to move inwardly to an extended position in which the shade 14 is relaxed. In one or more arrangements, the inner partition 210 and / or the retainer 150 prevent the shade receiver 146 from being pulled out of the elongated channel 186 of the track 148 by the shade 14. After the high wind pressure subsides, the magnetic attraction pulls the separated pair of magnetic components 218 and 220 into close proximity with each other, while tensioning the shade 14 to provide an aesthetically pleasing, taut shade 14.

[0201] In one or more arrangements, the outer partition 214 similarly extends inwardly a distance sufficient to engage the shade receiver 146 to limit the distance the shade receiver 146 can move outwardly away from the shade and into the elongated channel 186 of the track 148. In one or more arrangements, the outer partition 214 is positioned to allow the shade receiver 146 to move outwardly to a retracted position in which the magnetic components 218 and 220 are in close proximity, but prevent the magnetic components 218 and 220 from forcefully contacting each other.

[0202] Conversely, in one or more arrangements, the inner partitions 210 extend inwardly a distance sufficient to engage the shade receiver 146 to limit the distance the shade receiver 146 can move inwardly toward the shade 14 when the shade receiver 146 is pulled inwardly (e.g., due to strong winds). In this example arrangement, the passage opening 200 between the inner partitions 210 is wide enough to allow the shade receiver 146 to be rotated within the compartment 206 and removed from the elongated channel 186 of the track 148 through the passage opening 200 at an angle. In this example arrangement, the retainer 150 can be attached to the track 148 to prevent the shade receiver 146 from being removed from the elongated channel 186 of the track 148 via the passage opening 200, even when rotated at an angle.

[0203] However, embodiments are not limited in this regard. Specifically, it is contemplated that in some arrangements, the passage opening 200 between the inner partitions is wide enough to allow the shade receiver 146 to be removed from the elongated channel 186 of the track 148 via the passage opening 200 without rotating the shade receiver 146. In such arrangements, the retainer 150 is attached to the track 148 to prevent the shade receiver 146 from being removed from the elongated channel 186 of the track 148 via the passage opening 200, even when rotated at an angle.

[0204] Retainer 150:

[0205] The retainer 150 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to operably connect with the side wall 192 of the track 148 and prevent the shade receiver 146 from being removed from the compartment 206 of the elongated channel 186 of the track 148 via the channel opening 200 .

[0206] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the retainer 150 has a generally rectangular elongated shape having an inner side 226 extending between an upper end 234 and a lower end 236, an outer side 228, a shade-facing side 230, and a track-facing side 232. In this example arrangement, the retainer 150 has a first channel 250 formed in and extending along the outer side 228 between the upper end 234 and the lower end 236. In one or more arrangements, the channel 250 is a c-shaped channel configured to receive the inner partition 210 of one side wall 192 of the track 148 with a tight tolerance.

[0207] In one or more arrangements, the channel 250 of the retainer 150 has opposing side walls 264 that are configured to engage and connect with the bulkhead 210. In one or more arrangements, the retainer 150 has one or more connection features 254 that are configured to engage one or more connection features 256 of the bulkhead 210. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the retainer 150 has a protrusion-type connection feature 254 on one side wall 264 that is configured to engage a recess-type connection feature 256 of the bulkhead 210 when the retainer 150 is placed on the bulkhead 210. In this example arrangement, the side wall 264 opposite the connection feature 254 has an inclined surface 268 and a flat surface 270. The inclined surface 268 provides a wider opening between the side walls 264 to facilitate easier installation of the retainer 150 on the bulkhead 210. When the retainer 150 is mounted on the partition 210, the connection feature 254 engages the connection feature 256 of the partition 210. The flat surface 270 contacts the partition 210 and holds the retainer 150 in place. However, the arrangement is not limited to this. Specifically, it is contemplated that the retainer 150 can be connected to the partition 210 using various means and / or methods, including but not limited to, for example, friction fit, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, stitching, sewing, fasteners (e.g., staples, screws, nails, bolts, rivets, etc.) and / or any other connecting means or methods).

[0208] In the illustrated arrangement, when the retainer 150 is attached to the bulkhead 210 of the sidewall 192, the distance between the inner sides 226 of the retainer 150 in the passage opening 200 is too narrow to allow the shade receiver 146 to be removed through the passage opening 200. As such, the retainer 150 prevents the shade receiver 146 from being removed from the elongated passage 186 of the track 148.

[0209] In the illustrated arrangement, the retainer 150 is shorter than the track 148 and extends along a segment of the track 148 when installed (e.g., 8 to 10 inches). However, the arrangement is not limited in this regard. Rather, it is contemplated that in various arrangements, the retainer 150 may extend along a longer or shorter segment of the track 148 and / or may extend along the entire length of the track 148.

[0210] In one or more arrangements, the retainer 150 has a second channel 252 formed in and extending along the track-facing side 232 between the upper end 234 and the lower end 236 to facilitate attachment of one or more additional components. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the channel 252 is a T-shaped channel. However, the arrangement is not limited thereto. Rather, it is contemplated that the channel may be any shape to facilitate connection with a component.

[0211] Compressible member 258:

[0212] In one or more arrangements, the track assembly 20 includes one or more compressible members 258 configured to attach to the second channel 252 of the holder 150. The compressible member 258 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and is configured to operably connect with the second channel 252 of the holder 150 and engage the shade side surface 156 of the shade receiver 146 to prevent the shade receiver 146 from directly and forcefully contacting the holder 150 when the magnetic components 218 and 220 are separated and the shade receiver 146 moves inwardly toward the shade 14. In the illustrated arrangement, the compressible member 258 is a length of plush 260 having a T-shaped connector 262 that is configured to be retained within the channel 252.

[0213] However, the arrangement is not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that a variety of different arrangements may use various materials for the compressible member 258, including but not limited to various rubbers, plastics, foams, plush, brushes, felt or other synthetic or organic textiles, composite materials, nylon, vinyl, ultra-high molecular weight composite materials, or any other suitable material to reduce the sound caused by the impact.

[0214] Similarly, in one or more arrangements, the track assembly 20 may additionally or alternatively include one or more pads of compressible material 266 (not shown) at various locations on the track 148 and / or the shade receiver 146 to prevent direct metal-to-metal contact as the shade receiver 146 moves within the compartment 206 of the track 148.

[0215] Retainer Extension 272:

[0216] In one or more arrangements, the track assembly 20 includes one or more retainer extensions 272 configured to attach to the second channel 252 of the retainer 150. The retainer extensions 272 are formed into any suitable size, shape, and design and are configured to operably connect with the second channel 252 of the retainer 150 and limit the distance that the shade receiver 146 can move inwardly toward the shade. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the retainer extensions 272 are configured to retain the shade receiver 146 in the retracted position in the portion of the track 148 to which the retainer extensions 272 are attached. The retainer extensions 272 can be used, for example, to maintain higher tension on certain portions of the shade 14. For example, in some installations, it may be desirable to maintain higher tension on the lower end of the shade 14 to prevent the bottom bar assembly 22 from excessively bending in high wind conditions.

[0217] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the retainer extension 272 has a generally rectangular elongated shape having an inner side 276, an outer side 278, a shade-facing side 280, and a track-facing side 282 extending between an upper end 284 and a lower end 286. In this example arrangement, the retainer extension 272 has a T-shaped connector 288 extending along the track-facing side 282. The connector 288 is configured to be retained within the channel 252 and connect the retainer extension 272 to the retainer 150. However, the arrangement is not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that in some arrangements, the retainer extension 272 can be configured to connect to the retainer 150 using any shape of connector 288 and channel 252 (e.g., circular, triangular, square, rectangular, T-shaped, V-shaped, L-shaped, U-shaped, or any other shape).

[0218] In one or more arrangements, the track assembly 20 may include an end cap 216. The end cap 216 may be formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and is configured to connect with and cover the upper end 188 of the track 148 and provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance. In the illustrated arrangement, the end cap 216 is attached to the upper end 188 of the track 148 using fasteners that extend through holes in the end cap 216. However, the arrangements are not limited to this. Rather, it is contemplated that in various arrangements, the end cap 216 may be attached to the upper end 188 of the track 148 using various means and / or methods, including but not limited to, for example, friction fit, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, stitching, sewing, fasteners, and / or any other means or methods of connection.

[0219] Retainer Installation Tool :

[0220] Figure 63 to Figure 68An example tool 470 is shown that can be used to facilitate mounting a retainer on the side wall 92 of the track 148. In this example, the tool 470 includes a rod 472 having an elongated generally rectangular shape, the rod having a front portion 478, a back portion 480, and opposing sides 482 extending from a handle end 474 to an outer end 476. In this example arrangement, the tool 470 includes a pair of arms 484 and 486 extending outwardly a distance from a side 482 proximate the outer end 476. In this example, the outer arm 486 is located near the outer end 476, and the inner arm 484 is located at a closer distance to the handle end 474. The separation between the inner arm 484 and the outer arm 486 allows the tool 470 to be positioned with the retainer 150 and the bulkhead 210 of the side wall 192, wherein the retainer 150 will be connected and positioned between the inner arm 484 and the outer arm 486. That is, the outer arm 486 extends inwardly of the retainer 150 into the channel opening 200 of the track 148, and the outer arm extends a distance along the outside of the side wall 192. In this position, the user can push or pull the handle end 474 of the rod 472 to cause the inner arm 484 to push the retainer 150 onto the partition 210 until the attachment feature 254 of the retainer engages the attachment feature 256 of the partition 210 and the flat surface 270 of the side wall 264 of the channel 250 engages the retainer 150, thereby operably connecting the retainer 150 to the side wall 192.

[0221] Bottom rod assembly 22 :

[0222] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the system 10 includes a bottom bar assembly 22. The bottom bar assembly 22 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and is configured to be connected to the bottom edge 92 of the shade 14 while providing sufficient weight to the lower end of the shade 14 to facilitate smooth opening and closing, while also keeping the lower end of the shade 14 straight. [0223] The bottom bar 300 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to connect with, extend over and provide rigidity to the bottom edge 92 of the shade 14. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the bottom bar 300 has an elongated generally rectangular shape having a top end 308 extending between opposite ends 314, a bottom end 310 and opposite sides 312.

[0224] In one or more arrangements, the bottom bar 300 includes one or more hollow interior regions 318 extending between the opposite ends 314. The hollow interior region 318 is configured to receive a weight bar 320 (not shown) (or a rod or other shaped material) therein that adds weight to the bottom bar assembly 22.

[0225] In the illustrated arrangement, the bottom end of the bottom bar 300 includes a channel 324 configured to receive and retain therein a sealing member 304 configured to seal the lower end of the bottom bar 300 to the ground when the bottom bar 300 is in the fully lowered or closed position. The sealing member 304 may be formed by any means that facilitates sealing, such as a sheet of plush, a foam strip, a rubber strip, or any form of sealing member or other compressible member that helps facilitate sealing when the bottom bar 300 is in the fully lowered position.

[0226] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the bottom bar 300 has a receiver 328 located in the top end 308. The receiver 328 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and is configured to facilitate connecting the lower end of the blind 14 to the bottom bar assembly 22. More specifically, in one arrangement, the receiver 328 is formed into a shape that is identical or similar to the c-shaped channel 166 of the blind receiver 146 and / or the receiver 124, as described herein with respect to the blind receiver 146 and / or the roller tube assembly 16, respectively. In this arrangement, the lower end of the blind 14 includes an interlock 104 that is similar (if not identical) to the interlock 100 connected to the side edge 94 of the blind 14 and the interlock 102 connected to the top edge 90 of the blind 14. In the illustrated arrangement, the interlock 104 is a cylindrical interlock, and the receiver 328 is a c-shaped channel. However, the arrangement is not limited thereto. Specifically, it is contemplated that in one or more arrangements, the interlocking device 104 may be formed of any form and / or shape of interlocking device, including but not limited to a side bar interlocking device, a zipper interlocking device, a rope, a beaded chain, or any similar interlocking device known in the art associated with the disclosed retractable blinds. In addition, the receiver 328 is additionally or alternatively connected to the blind 14 using various known methods and / or means, including but not limited to, for example, clamps, snaps, pins, fasteners, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, sewing, and / or any other connection means or connection methods.

[0227] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, only a single receiver 328 is shown in the bottom bar assembly 22. However, it is hereby contemplated that any number of receivers 328, such as one, two, three, four, five, six, or more, may be used in the bottom bar assembly 22. Alternatively, it is hereby contemplated that no receiver 328 may be used, and instead the covering 14 may be connected to the bottom bar assembly 22 by any other manner, method, or means.

[0228] In the illustrated arrangement, a pair of end brackets 302 are connected to the end 314 of the bottom bar 300. The end brackets 302 are formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and are configured to connect with the end 314 of the bottom bar 300, connect with the interlock 100 of the shade 14, and operably connect the bottom bar with the track 148. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, each end bracket 302 has a body 332 of a generally rectangular shape, having a bar-facing side 334 and a track-facing side 336 extending between a top 338, a bottom 340, and opposing sides 342.

[0229] In this example arrangement, the end bracket 302 has a connection arrangement 344 located on the bar-facing side 334. The connection arrangement 344 is formed into any suitable size, shape, and design, and is configured to connect the end bracket 302 to one end 314 of the bottom bar 300. In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the connection arrangement 344 includes one or more protrusions that are configured to be inserted into one or more hollow interior regions 318 of the bottom bar 300. In this example arrangement, a fastener 346 (not shown) extends through the hole 348 and into the bottom bar to secure the end bracket 302 in place.

[0230] Specifically, it is contemplated that, in various arrangements, the connecting step 344 may secure the end bracket 302 to the bottom bar 300 using various means and / or methods, including, but not limited to, for example, friction fit, gluing, chemical bonding, welding, stitching, sewing, fasteners (e.g., staples, screws, nails, bolts, rivets, etc.), and / or any other connecting means or methods.

[0231] In the illustrated arrangement, the end bracket 302 has a clamp arrangement 352 located on the track-facing side 336. The clamp arrangement 352 is formed into any suitable size, shape and design and is configured to receive and clamp onto the interlock 100 of the shade 14. In the illustrated arrangement, the clamp arrangement 352 is configured to receive and clamp onto a lower portion of the interlock 100 of the shade 14 that extends downwardly beyond the bottom edge 92.

[0232] In the illustrated arrangement, as an example, the clamp arrangement 352 includes a first flange 354 and a second flange 356 extending outwardly in parallel from the track-facing side 336 of the body 332 of the end bracket 302. In this example arrangement, the first flange 354 has an opening 358 extending through the first flange 354. In this example arrangement, a plate 360 is located in the opening 358 and is configured to facilitate clamping the seam material 108 of the lower portion of the interlocking device 100 in a gap 364 located between the first flange 354 and the second flange 356.

[0233] In this example arrangement, the seam material 108 is clamped between the plate 360 and the second flange 356 by one or more fasteners 366. In this example arrangement, the bolt-type fasteners 366 extend through holes in the plate 360, through the seam material 108, and connect with the threaded members 368 of the second flange 356. As the fasteners are tightened, the plate 360 moves toward the second flange 356, and the seam material 108 of the interconnect is clamped therebetween. In this example arrangement, because the plate is separated from the first flange 354, the clamping applies stress to the first flange 354 and the second flange 356 (e.g., as if the first flange 354 and the second flange 356 were clamped together). In this way, the life and durability of the end bracket 302 are improved.

[0234] However, the arrangement is not limited thereto. Rather, it is contemplated that some various arrangements may utilize additional or alternative means to facilitate clamping. As an example, in some arrangements, the seam material 108 is clamped between the plate 360 and the second flange 356 by one or more self-tapping screw-type fasteners 366. In one or more arrangements, such self-tapping screw-type fasteners 366 may be configured to be screwed into the second flange 356. In such an arrangement, the threaded member 368 may be omitted, thereby simplifying the manufacture of the end bracket 302.

[0235] In one or more arrangements, the end bracket 302 is configured to extend into the passage opening 200 of the elongated channel 186 of the track 148 to operably connect the bottom bar assembly 22 to the track 148 and the structure 24, and thereby provide additional support for the bottom edge 92 of the shade in high wind conditions while allowing the shade 14 to move up and down. In the illustrated arrangement, the first flange 354 and the second flange 356 are configured to extend into the passage opening 200 between the retainers 150, wherein the retainers 150 have a close tolerance with the first flange 354 and the second flange 356. As the shade 14 and the bottom bar assembly 22 are raised and lowered, these first flanges 354 and the second flanges 356 slide along the inner surface of the passage opening 200, thereby guiding and aligning the bottom bar 300 during opening and closing, thereby providing a smoother, more consistent and quieter operation.

[0236] Rather, it is contemplated that the end bracket 302 may be implemented with a variety of alternative structures and / or arrangements to facilitate operatively connecting the base bar assembly 22 to the track assembly 20 .
