[0001] Related Applications
[0002] Pursuant to 35 U.S.C. §119(e), this application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 527,531, filed on July 18, 2023 (titled “STEAMER”), the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field
[0003] The present invention relates to a steam ironing machine, in particular to a portable steam ironing machine having a slim profile and a corresponding slim-structured heat exchanger for generating steam. Background Art
[0004] Steamers are devices designed to remove wrinkles, clean and deodorize fabrics such as clothing, curtains, upholstery and other items. Steamers typically include a handheld wand for applying steam. Recently, portable steamers have become increasingly popular, especially for clothing. Portable steamers provide the user with a handheld source of steam.
[0005] Portable steamers are particularly useful when the steamer is a garment steamer, which is a type of steamer that is typically used to clean and / or sanitize clothing, textiles, or fabrics. Portable handheld garment steamers are ideal because they allow the user to more easily operate the steamer and control the direction in which the steam is applied. Portable handheld garment steamers are particularly useful for removing wrinkles from wrinkled clothing, especially clothing that has been wrinkled while traveling in a suitcase or travel bag. The smaller the steamer, the easier it is to operate the steam and the easier it is to pack for travel.
[0006] Portable handheld steam irons are configured in a variety of different ways. In most cases, water is placed in a reservoir, heated to produce steam, which is ejected through a nozzle, which the user directs at the fabric. Generally speaking, almost all portable handheld steam irons have a nozzle at the end to project steam onto the garment. Typical garment steam irons typically have more than one or more nozzles (i.e., steam outlet openings) to form the steam output. This design typically orients the steam outlet in a horizontal manner, with a relatively low pressure steam discharge over a relatively wide steam output area, resulting in a relatively short travel distance of the ejected steam and a relatively low pressure airflow of the steam.
[0007] The heating element is usually positioned near the nozzle to heat the water in the reservoir to produce steam. In a compact configuration, the heating element and / or the steam may be positioned near the handle of the portable steam iron, and thus near the user's hand. It should be noted that the heating element or the steam should not be too close to the handle to avoid scalding the user. How to make the portable steam iron as portable and compact as possible has always been a design challenge.
[0008] Therefore, there is a need for a portable steam ironing machine having a slim profile without affecting the functionality of the steam ironing machine. Summary of the invention
[0009] A steam ironing machine is provided, comprising a housing, a reservoir and a steam generator. The housing has a length, a width and a height. The reservoir is connected to the housing and supplies water to a steam generator positioned inside the housing. The steam generator is fluidly connected to the reservoir via a pump to facilitate the delivery of water. The steam generator also includes a plurality of steam outlets for ejecting steam. The plurality of steam outlets are vertically oriented relative to each other along the height of the housing. This vertical orientation of the steam outlets forms an ultra-slim steam ironing machine profile, which not only reduces the carbon footprint of the steam ironing machine, but also allows the steam ironing machine to be easier to carry, pack and travel with.
[0010] In another example, a steam ironing machine of the present invention includes a housing having a length, a width, and a height, the housing including a plurality of steam outlets vertically oriented relative to each other along the height of the housing. The steam ironing machine also includes a reservoir connected to the housing and a steam generator in fluid communication with the reservoir via a pump. The steam generator generates steam that is ejected from the plurality of vertically oriented steam outlets.
[0011] In another example, the steam ironing machine of the present invention comprises a housing having a length, a width and a height. The width of the housing is at least twice shorter than the length of the housing (the width of the housing is at most one-half of the length of the housing), and at least three times shorter than the height of the housing (the width of the housing is at most one-third of the height of the housing). The steam ironing machine also comprises a steam generator positioned in the housing and having a length, a width and a height. Similar to the housing, the width of the steam generator is at least twice shorter than the length of the steam generator (the width of the steam generator is at most one-half of the length of the steam generator), and at least three times shorter than the height of the steam generator (the width of the steam generator is at most one-third of the height of the steam generator). The steam generator also comprises a hook that can be moved from a closed position to an open position. The hook allows the steam ironing machine to be hung. This configuration of the steam ironing machine enhances the portability, functionality and versatility of the steam ironing machine, making it suitable for various steaming tasks at home or during travel.

Therefore, the fact that a particular "aspect," "example," "embodiment," or "implementation" is explicitly described herein does not exclude other "aspects," "examples," "embodiments," and "implementations" from the scope of this disclosure, even if not explicitly described. In this disclosure, the terms "aspects," "examples," "embodiments," and "implementations" are used interchangeably, i.e., are considered to have interchangeable meanings.
[0028] In addition, in this application, the terms "substantially", "approximately" or "roughly" when modifying a specified numerical value may be considered to include a range of values that includes + / -10% of that numerical value. In addition, terms such as "connected" and "connected to" or "interface" or "interfaced with" (e.g., a first component is "connected to" or "in communication with" a second component) are used herein to indicate a structural, functional, mechanical, electrical, signal, optical, magnetic, electromagnetic, ionic or fluid relationship between two or more components or elements. Therefore, the fact that one component is said to be in communication with or interface with a second component is not intended to exclude that additional components may exist between and / or be operably associated or engaged with the first component and the second component.
[0029] For the purpose of reference and description, the steam ironing machine 100, 1200 of the present invention is considered to have a horizontal x-axis (x), a vertical y-axis (y), and a width z-axis (z), such as Figure 1 As shown, the components of the steam ironing machines 100, 120 are positioned relative to each other along these axes. Terms such as "axial" and "axially" are assumed to refer to the respective axis or any direction or axis parallel to the device axis, unless otherwise specified or the context requires otherwise. For convenience, movement relative to the device axis may alternatively include movement relative to the device axis. Figure 1 Unless the context indicates otherwise, linear translation "along device axis z" is not limited to translation directly on the device axis (coincident with the device axis), but also includes translation parallel to the device axis z, depending on the context. Similarly, rotation "about device axis y" also includes rotation about an axis parallel to the device axis y, depending on the context.
[0030] In addition, the steam ironing machine of the present invention is also considered to have a height (h), a length (l) and a width (w), such as Figure 1 Most prominently shown.
[0031] As will be shown and discussed below, the steam iron of the present invention has an ultra-slim profile, allowing it to be easily carried, packed and traveled. In particular, the width (w) of the steam iron can be less than 3 inches. In other examples, the width of the steam iron can be 2 inches or less. In other examples, the width of the steam iron can be between 1-3 inches. In other examples, the overall dimensions of the steam iron can be 2 inches wide / 4.75 inches long / 7 inches high. In other words, the width of the steam iron is at least two times shorter than the length (the width of the steam iron is at most one-half of the length) and at least three times shorter than the height (the width of the steam iron is at most one-third of the height). Such dimensions are an important feature of the present invention, in particular the short width of the steam iron, especially relative to the length and height of the steam iron, resulting in an ultra-slim profile that not only reduces the carbon footprint of the steam iron, but also allows the steam iron to be easier to carry, pack and travel with.
[0032] See also Figure 1-11 , showing an example of a garment steaming device or steam ironing machine 100 of the present invention. The steam ironing machine 100 includes a housing 102 having a front portion 110, a rear portion 112, a left side 118 and a right side 402 (eg, Figure 4 As shown in FIG. 1 ). When viewed from the top, the housing 102 is generally rectangular (as shown in FIG. Figure 7 102 ), includes an integrated handle 106 that extends downwardly to near the rear of the housing 112. The handle 106 is sized such that no portion of the handle 106 extends beyond the outer surface of the front side 110, rear side 112, left side 118, or right side 402 of the housing 102.
[0033] The handle 106 is further configured to include a trigger 108 for manual operation by a user to release steam in the steam iron 100. A power cord 122 can be further connected to the handle 106 to power the steam iron 100 from an external power source (e.g., an electrical outlet). In other examples, the steam iron 100 can be wireless and can incorporate its own power source, including but not limited to batteries or rechargeable batteries. The rear of the housing 112 further includes a power button 204 for turning the steam iron on and off.
[0034] As further shown, a liquid or fluid (such as water) reservoir or tank 104 is connected to the housing 102. The water reservoir 104 is used to hold a liquid to be steamed, such as water or other liquids. In particular, the water reservoir 104 can be fixed to or releasably connected to the housing 102, and can have an opening to allow water to be filled or refilled into the water reservoir 104. The reservoir can extend generally downward to the front of the housing 110. The profile of the water reservoir 104 can further be consistent with the profile of the housing 102. Similar to the handle 106, the size of the water reservoir 104 is set so that no part of the water reservoir 104 extends beyond the outer surface of the front side 110, the rear side 112, the left side 118 or the right side 402 of the housing 102. Such a size configuration of the handle 106 and the water reservoir 104 relative to the housing 102 allows the steam ironing machine 100 to have an ultra-slim profile, thereby making the steam ironing machine 100 easier to carry, pack and travel with.
[0035] As will be discussed in detail below, the water reservoir 104 is fluidly connected to the steam outlet 116 so that water in the water reservoir is pumped to the steam generator 908 positioned above the water reservoir 104 and then ejected through the steam outlet 116. The steam outlet 116 is positioned at the front of the housing 110. The steam plate 114 is also positioned at the front of the housing 110. The steam outlets 116 are oriented vertically along the height of the steam ironing machine 100. As shown, the steam outlets 116 are oriented in a straight vertical arrangement with each other along the height of the steam ironing machine 100. This vertical orientation of the steam outlets 116 allows the steam ironing machine 100 to maintain its slim profile. In addition, it should be understood that although Figure 1 The steam iron 100 is shown with five steam outlets 116 , but any number of steam outlets may be incorporated into the steam iron 100 without departing from the scope of the present invention.
[0036] Figure 3 and Figure 4 1 are left and right side views of the steam iron 100. As shown, the handle 106 extends downward from the rear housing 112 and the water reservoir 104 extends downward from the front housing 112, thereby forming a gap or space between the handle 106 and the water reservoir 104 for the user to place his or her hands for operating the steam iron 100. As further shown in the figure, the top of the housing 120, the outer surfaces of the rear housing 112 and the front housing 110 are substantially flat. Similarly, the outer surfaces of the left side 118 and the right side 402 of the housing (such as Figure 5-8 The outer surface of the steam iron (shown) is also substantially flat. This substantially flat outer surface allows the steam iron to have an ultra-slim profile, making it easy to carry, pack and travel with.
[0037] As described above, the width (W) of the steam ironing machine 100 may be at least two times shorter than the length (L) (the width may be at most one-half of the length), and at least three times shorter than the height (H) (the width may be at most one-third of the height). Such dimensions, especially the shorter or thinner width of the steam ironing machine 100 relative to the length and height, form an ultra-slim profile, which not only reduces the carbon footprint of the steam ironing machine 100, but also allows the steam ironing machine to be easier to carry, pack and travel with.
[0038] Reference now Fig. 9 , a cross-sectional view of the steam ironing machine 100 is shown, showing the main components. As shown, the housing 102 is at least partially formed by a left housing 118, a right housing 402, a front housing 110 and a rear housing 112, the rear housing accommodating at least one or more control components, such as a printed circuit board 920 for controlling the operation of the steam ironing machine 100 and a water pump 922. The steam ironing machine 100 further includes a front housing 110, which receives a steam plate 114 having a plurality of steam outlets 116. The front housing 110 also covers a nozzle seal 902, which is positioned in front of a steam generator 908. The steam generator 908 is surrounded by a left steam generator housing 904 and a right steam generator housing 906. The steam generator 908 is positioned in an interior space within the housing 102 between the left housing side 118 and the right housing side 402.
[0039] The water pump 922 is in fluid communication with the water reservoir 104 and the steam generator 908 through a conduit, such as a reservoir conduit 928 connected to a pump-in tube 914 and a pump-out tube 916 via an intake connector 926 having an inserted seal 924, to deliver fluid or water from the water reservoir 104 to the steam generator 908. The pump-in tube 914 facilitates the flow of water from the reservoir 104 to the pump 922, and the pump-out tube 916 facilitates the flow of water from the pump 922 to the steam generator 908. In other words, the pump 922 moves water from the reservoir 104 to the steam generator 908.
[0040] A water reservoir cover 930 may be further positioned on top of the water reservoir 104. The water reservoir 104 may be fixed to or releasably connected to the housing 102.
[0041] Fig.10 is an internal view of the steam generator 908 of the steam ironing machine 100, Fig.111 is an internal view of a steam generator 908 of a steam ironing machine 100 separated from the steam ironing machine 100. The steam generator 908 of the present invention is a device for generating steam, and the steam is outputted by the steam ironing machine 100 at least through a plurality of steam outlets 116. As shown, the steam generator 908 may include a chamber having a channel or passage 1002, which facilitates the flow of fluid from a fluid inlet 1006 toward a steam outlet 1004. A heating element (such as an electric heat pipe 1010) is located in the chamber of the steam generator 908 and passes through or intersects the fluid flow passage or passage 1002 at multiple locations. The electric heat pipe 1010 is electrically connected to a power source that supplies power to the electric heat pipe 1010. The heat pipe 1010 of the steam generator 908 can be powered and electrically heated by a power source (such as a battery) housed in the steam ironing machine or from an external power source (such as through a wall power outlet).
[0042] like Fig.10 and Fig.11 As shown, the heat pipe 1010 passes through or intersects at different sections or points along the fluid flow path or channel 1002, thereby allowing the fluid entering the steam generator chamber via the pump-in pipe 914 and the pump-out pipe 916 to contact the heat pipe 1010 along multiple different points along the fluid flow path or channel 1002, so that the fluid can be heated and heated enough times that the fluid is converted into steam before being discharged under pressure through the steam outlets 1004 and 116. In other words, the heat pipe 1010 flowing through the fluid flow path or channel 1002 is designed to maximize the surface area of the fluid so that heat can be fully transferred from the heat pipe 1010 to the fluid at a temperature that will produce steam.
[0043] In one example of the operation of the present invention, water from the reservoir 104 is pumped into the chamber of the steam generator 908 from the outlet end 1008 of the pump-out tube 916. The water then flows through the fluid flow path / channel 1002. While flowing through the fluid flow path / channel 1002, the water contacts the heat pipe 1010 at multiple points along the fluid flow path / channel 1002, thereby allowing heat from the heat pipe to be transferred to the water. When the water flows through the path / channel 1002 and is heated by the heat pipe 1010, the heat converts the water into steam. The steam then continues to flow through the path / channel 1002 and is eventually released from the steam outlets 1004 and 116.
[0044] like Fig.10As further shown, an important feature of the present invention is the vertical orientation of the steam generator 908. In particular, the steam generator 908 includes a vertically oriented steam outlet 1004, which is substantially aligned with the vertical orientation of the steam outlet 116. The steam outlets 1004, 116 are vertically oriented along the height of the steam generator 100. This vertical orientation of the steam outlets 1004, 116 allows the steam ironing machine 100 to maintain a slim profile. Similar to the steam ironing machine 100, the width of the steam generator 908 can also be at least twice shorter than the length (the width of the steam generator is at most one-half of the length) and at least three times shorter than the height (the width of the steam generator is at most one-third of the height). This configuration and orientation of the steam generator 908 allows the steam ironing machine 100 to maintain a slim profile, making it easier to carry, pack and travel with.
[0045] Although Fig.10 and Fig.11 The fluid flow passage / channel 1002 is shown in a spiral configuration, but it should be understood that the fluid flow passage / channel 1002 may also be in a back-and-forth winding configuration (e.g., zigzag) or any other configuration to allow sufficient time for the fluid to fully convert to steam before being released from the steam outlets 1004, 116. It should be further understood that a single, dual, or multiple fluid flow passages / channels 1002 may be incorporated into the steam generator 908. This figure does not limit the invention to a specific passage / channel design, nor does it limit the invention to the use of a single, dual, or multiple passages / channels, except for the designs specifically discussed herein.
[0046] Fig.11 is an internal view of the steam generator 908 separated from the steam ironing machine 100. Fig.11 Specifically, the fluid enters the fluid inlet 1006 of the steam generator 908 and flows through the fluid passage / channel 1002. The fluid flow channel / channel 1002 is formed between the channel walls 1102. This fluid flows through Fig.11 The arrows in the figure show or illustrate. Fig.11 As further shown, point A is a specific point in the steam generator 908 where the fluid flow path splits into dual paths / channels 1006. This dual path is important for allowing steam to exit in a more synchronous and / or more uniform manner through all steam outlets 116. In other words, point A allows steam to flow in different directions, wherein one direction allows steam to reach at least the two steam outlets 116 at the top and another direction allows steam to reach at least the two or three steam outlets 116 at the bottom.
[0047] Given that the steam outlets 116 are oriented vertically along the height of the steam ironing machine 100, a single passage / channel will cause steam to flow in only one direction, thereby first exiting from the steam outlets 116 that flow closest to the fluid inlet 1006, thereby limiting or affecting the amount of steam or any steam released from the steam outlets 116 that flow farthest from the fluid inlet 1006. The flow divider 1104 can also be used to further support the steam to exit from all steam outlets simultaneously and / or evenly. In other words, the flow divider 1104 can allow steam entering from point A in one direction to only reach one set of steam outlets (e.g., Fig.11 The top two steam outlets shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 may allow steam entering from point A from different directions to only reach another set of steam outlets (e.g., Fig.11 The three bottom steam outlets are shown).
[0048] It should also be understood that, although the present invention shows five steam outlets 1004, 116, any number of steam outlets 1004, 116 may be combined without departing from the scope of the present invention. Likewise, although the splitter 1104 is shown separating the two steam outlets at the top from the three steam outlets at the bottom, the splitter 1104 may separate any number of steam outlets 1004, 116 without departing from the scope of the present invention. For example, if there are only two steam outlets, the splitter 1104 may separate the two outlets from each other, or if there are only four steam outlets, the splitter 1104 may separate the two outlets at the top from the two outlets at the bottom, or separate the three outlets at the top from the one outlet at the bottom.
[0049] As described above, the steam iron 100 of the present invention may include a steam release or trigger 108 for a user to control the steam generated by the steam iron 100. Other user control inputs may also be incorporated into the steam iron 100, including but not limited to the amount of steam to be released, the direction in which the steam is released, and temperature control for controlling the amount of heat to be transferred to the water / fluid. An integrated circuit and / or controller 920 may also be provided to control the operation of the steam iron and respond to the user control inputs.
[0050] Fig.12 and 13 Another example of the steam ironing machine 1200 of the present invention is shown. In addition to the difference in appearance design, that is, the handle 1206 and the water reservoir 1204 are connected on the bottom of the steam ironing machine 1200 to form an internal opening for the user to place his or her hand to operate the steam ironing machine, the steam ironing machine 1200 is combined with Figure 1-11 The steam ironing machine 100 shown has all the same components, functions and operations. Figure 1 The length (L), height (H) and width (W) dimensions shown in the figure are in the same direction as Fig.12 and Fig.13 Apply in the same manner and direction as in .
[0051] Similar to the steam iron 100, the steam iron 1200 includes a housing 1202 having a front 1210, a rear 1212, a left side 1214, and a right side (not shown). The housing 1202 is generally rectangular in shape when viewed from the top, and includes an integrated handle 1206 extending downward from the rear of the housing 1212. The handle 1206 is sized so that no portion of the handle 1206 extends beyond the front side 1210, the rear side 1212, the left side 1214, or the right side (not shown) of the housing 1202. The handle 1206 is further configured to include a trigger 1208 for manual engagement by a user to release steam from the steam generator 1200. A power cord may be further connected to the handle 1206 to power the steam iron 1200 from an external power source (e.g., an electrical outlet). The rear of the housing 1212 further includes a power button 1218.
[0052] As further shown, a water or fluid reservoir or tank 1204 is connected to the housing 1202. In particular, the water reservoir 1204 can be fixed to or releasably connected to the housing 1202 and can extend downward from the front of the housing 1210. Similar to the handle 1206, the water reservoir 1204 is sized so that no portion of the water reservoir 1204 extends beyond the front side 1210, the rear side 1212, the left side 1214, or the right side (not shown) of the housing 1202. The steam plate 1302 and the steam outlet 1304 are further positioned at the front of the housing 110.
[0053] The steam iron 1200 also exhibits the incorporation of a hanger 1220 that is hingedly attached to the housing 1202 near the top housing 1216. The hanger 1220 may include a hook 1224 that allows a user to hang the steam iron 1200, for example, on a hanger or other structure. The hanger moves between an open position and a closed position. Fig.12 and Fig.13 The hanger 1220 is shown in an open position. The hanger 1220 also includes a cover 1222 that extends along the length of the steam iron 1200 when the hanger 1220 is in the open position. Such a cover 1222 allows the hanger 1220 to be flush with the outer surface of the rear housing 1212 of the steam iron 1200 when the hanger 1220 is in the closed position. In fact, when in the closed position, the hanger 1220 can be completely flush with the outer surfaces of the rear housing 1212 and the upper housing 1216 of the steam iron 1200.
[0054] In addition, when moved to the closed position, the hook 1224 is inserted into the hook slot 1226 formed at least in part by the top housing 1216 and the rear housing 1212, and can be fixed in the hook slot 1226 by any fixing mechanism known in the art (including but not limited to friction fit, clamps, magnets, or any combination thereof). To move the handle 1220 to the open position, a release button (not shown) can be actuated, or the user can simply press one end of the hook to release it from the hook slot 1226. It should be further understood that the handle 1220 and hook slot 1226 configuration shown in the steam iron 1200 can also be incorporated into the steam iron 100.
[0055] It will be understood that terms such as "in communication" and "in communication with..." (e.g., a first component is "in communication with" or "in communication with" a second component) are used herein to indicate a structural, functional, mechanical, electrical, signal, optical, magnetic, electromagnetic, ionic, or fluid relationship between two or more components or elements. Thus, the fact that one component is referred to as being in communication with a second component is not intended to exclude the possibility that additional components may be present between and / or operably associated or engaged with the first and second components. It will be understood that various aspects or details of the present invention may be modified without departing from the scope of the present invention. Furthermore, the above description is for illustrative purposes only and not for limiting purposes - the present invention is defined by the claims.
