[0032] Hereinafter, example embodiments will now be described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings; however, they may be implemented in different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the exemplary implementations to those skilled in the art.

[0033] In the accompanying drawings, the dimensions of layers and regions may be exaggerated for clarity of illustration. It will also be understood that when a layer or element is referred to as being "on" another layer or substrate, it can be directly on the other layer or substrate, or intervening layers may also be present. In addition, it will be understood that when a layer is referred to as being "between" two layers, it can be the only layer between the two layers, or one or more intervening layers may also be present. The same reference numerals refer to the same elements throughout.

[0034] With reference to the detailed description of the embodiments and the accompanying drawings, some embodiments of the present disclosure and methods according thereto can be understood. The described embodiments have various modified examples and can be implemented in other forms, which are not limited to the embodiments described in this specification. In addition, some or all of the features of each of the various embodiments of the present disclosure can be combined with each other. Each embodiment can be implemented independently or in relation to each other. The described embodiments are provided as examples so that the present disclosure is thorough and complete, and are also intended to fully convey the ideas of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art. It should be understood that all changes, equivalents and substitutes that do not depart from the spirit and technical scope of the present disclosure are included in the present disclosure. Therefore, in order to fully understand the embodiments of the present disclosure, processes, elements and techniques that are unnecessary for those skilled in the art may not be described.

[0035] In all drawings, hatching and / or shading in the drawings is generally provided to make the boundaries between adjacent elements clear. Therefore, the presence or absence of hatching or shading does not indicate a desired form or requirement for specific materials, material properties, dimensions, proportions, commonalities between image elements, and / or other characteristics, properties, attributes, etc. of unspecified elements.

[0036] Various embodiments are described herein with reference to cross-sectional examples, which are schematic illustrations of embodiments and / or intermediate structures. Thus, for example, the appearance of the drawings may vary as a result of manufacturing techniques and / or tolerances. Furthermore, the specific structural or functional descriptions disclosed in this specification are merely examples of embodiments conceived in accordance with the present disclosure. Thus, the embodiments disclosed herein should not be construed as limited to the shapes of the regions shown, but rather include variations in shape, for example, due to manufacturing.

[0037] Numerous specific details are set forth in the specification to provide a comprehensive understanding of various embodiments. However, various embodiments may be implemented without or including one or more of these specific details. In other cases, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form to avoid unnecessarily obscuring various embodiments.

[0038] As shown in the figure, in order to illustrate the relationship between one element or feature and another element or feature, spatial relationship terms such as "bottom", "top", "lower", "upper", etc. can be used here for ease of explanation. In addition to the directions shown in the accompanying drawings, spatial relationship terms are intended to also include various directions of the device in use or operation. For example, when the device in the figure is turned over, other elements or features described as "bottom" or "lower" will face the "top" of other elements or features. Therefore, as illustrative terms, "bottom" and "lower" can include two directions up and down. The device can be oriented in different directions (for example, rotated 90 degrees or other directions), and the spatial relationship description used in the specification should be interpreted accordingly. Similarly, when the first part is described as being placed "above" the second part, this means that the first part is placed above or below the second part.

[0039] In addition, the expression "viewed from a plane" means when a portion of an object is viewed from above, and the expression "in a schematic cross-sectional view" means a schematic cross-sectional view obtained by vertically cutting a portion of an object. The term "viewed from the side" means that the first object can be above, below or on the side surface of the second object, and vice versa. In addition, the terms "overlap" or "superposition" may include layers, stacks, surfaces, extensions, covers or partial covers, or any other suitable terms understood by those skilled in the art. The expression "non-overlapping" may include meanings such as "away from something" or "separated from something" and any other suitable equivalents recognized and understood by those skilled in the art. The terms "face" and "surface" may mean that the first object may directly or indirectly face the second object. When a third object is present between the first object and the second object, the first object and the second object face each other, but may be indirectly understood as being opposite to each other.

[0040] It will be understood that when a layer, region or component is referred to as being "formed on", "connected to" or "bonded to" another layer, region or component, it may be formed directly or indirectly on another layer, region or component. That is, for example, there may be an intermediate layer, region or component. In addition, it may be collectively referred to as a direct or indirect combination or connection of elements, layers, regions or components, or an integrated or non-integrated combination or connection, so that one or more elements, layers, regions or components may exist. For example, when an element, layer, region or component is referred to as being "electrically connected to" or "electrically coupled to" another element, layer, region or component, this means that it is directly electrically connected to or or electrically coupled to or connected to another element, layer, region or component. However, "direct connection" or "direct coupling" means that one component is directly connected or coupled to another component without an intermediate component, or one component is on top of another component. In addition, in the specification, when a part of a layer, film, region, plate, etc. is formed in another part, the formation direction is not limited to the upward direction, but includes that the part is formed on the side surface or the lower part. In contrast, when a portion of a layer, film, region, plate, etc. is formed "under" another portion, not only is the portion "immediately under" the other portion, but there is also another portion between the portion and the other portion. Meanwhile, other expressions describing the relationship between components, such as "between," "just between," or "adjacent to" and "immediately adjacent to," may also be similarly interpreted. Furthermore, when an element or layer is referred to as being "between" two elements or layers, it may be the only element between the two elements or layers, or there may be other elements therebetween.

[0041] For the purposes of this specification, expressions such as "at least one or more" or "any one" do not limit the order of the individual elements. For example, "at least one of X, Y, and Z", "at least one of X, Y, or Z", and "at least one selected from the group consisting of X, Y, and Z" may include any combination of X alone, Y alone, Z alone, and two or more of X, Y, and Z. Similarly, expressions such as "at least one of A and B" and "at least one of A or B" may include A, B, or A and B. In the specification, "or" generally means "and / or", and the term "and / or" includes any combination of one or more of the associated listed items. For example, expressions such as "A and / or B" may include A, B, or A and B.

[0042] Although terms such as "first", "second", "third", etc. can be used here to describe various elements, components, regions, layers and / or cross-sections, these elements, components, regions, layers and / or cross-sections are not limited by these terms. These terms are used to distinguish an element, component, region, layer or cross-section from another element, component, region, layer or cross-section. Therefore, without departing from the spirit and scope of the embodiment, the first element, component, region, layer or cross-section described below may be referred to as the second element, component, region, layer or cross-section. Describing an element as a "first" element may not require or imply the presence of a second element or any other element. Terms such as "first", "second", etc. can be used to distinguish different categories or element sets in the specification. For clarity, terms such as "first" and "second" can be expressed as "first category (or first group)", "second category (or second group)", etc.

[0043] In the specification, if used in the singular, the singular is intended to include the plural and the plural is also intended to include the singular, unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. When used in the specification, the terms "comprising", "having" and the like mean the presence of specified features, integers or steps. These expressions do not exclude the presence or addition of one or more other functions, steps, operations, components and / or combinations thereof.

[0044] When one or more embodiments can be implemented differently, a specific process order can be performed in a different order than described. For example, two processes described in succession can be performed substantially simultaneously, or can be performed in an order opposite to the described order.

[0045] As used herein, the terms "substantially," "approximately," and similar terms are used as terms of approximation, rather than terms of degree, and are intended to account for the inherent variation in measured or calculated values that one of ordinary skill in the art will recognize. Taking into account the measurement in question and the errors associated with the measurement of a particular quantity (i.e., the limitations of the measurement system), "approximately" or "approximately" as used herein are inclusive of the stated value and mean within an acceptable range of deviation for a particular value as determined by one of ordinary skill in the art. For example, "approximately" may mean within one or more standard deviations, or within ±30%, 20%, 10%, or 5% of the stated value.

[0046] Unless otherwise defined, all terms (including technical and scientific terms) used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which the present disclosure belongs. It will also be understood that terms, such as those defined in commonly used dictionaries, should be interpreted as having a meaning consistent with their meaning in the context of the relevant art and in the context of the present disclosure, and will not be interpreted in an idealized or overly formal sense unless expressly so defined herein.

[0047] Figure 1 A battery pack 10 according to an embodiment is shown. Figure 2 Shows Figure 1 The battery cell 100 in the battery pack 10 is shown in FIG. Figures 3 to 5 An assembling process of the battery pack 10 according to the embodiment is shown. Figure 6 A protection circuit module 200 according to an embodiment is shown. Figure 7 It is along Figure 1 A cross-sectional view of the battery pack 10 taken along line VII-VII′.

[0048] refer to Figures 1 to 7 , a battery pack 10 (eg, a pouch-type battery) may include a battery cell 100 and a protection circuit module 200. For example, Figure 1 As shown, the battery pack 10 may have at least one surface (eg, parallel to Figure 1 The battery pack 10 may be thin and flat. At least a portion of the battery pack 10 may have a curved shape. For example, both side surfaces of the battery pack 10 (eg, Figure 1 The left and right sides of the battery pack 10 may have a curved shape. The battery pack 10 may include one or more bands to support and protect the battery cell 100 and the protection circuit module 200. The band may be located at one or more of the battery cell 100 and the protection circuit module 200, and may include an insulating material.

[0049] For example, the battery pack 10 may include a battery cell 100 including an electrode assembly 110 and an electrode tab 120 extending from the electrode assembly 110, and a protection circuit module 200 including a substrate 210 and a substrate tab 220 on the substrate 210 and connected to the electrode tab 120. The protection circuit module 200 may include a cutting portion 230 formed at a position corresponding to the substrate tab 220 in a width direction of the substrate 210. At least a portion of the electrode tab 120 is at the same height as the cutting portion 230.

[0050] like Figure 2 As shown, the battery cell 100 may include an electrode assembly 110 , an electrode tab 120 protruding from the electrode assembly 110 , an insulating tape 130 on the electrode tab 120 , and an exterior member P. The electrode assembly 110 may be accommodated within the exterior member P.

[0051] The electrode assembly 110 may include a first electrode plate 111 and a second electrode plate 112 having opposite polarities to each other, and a separator 113 between the first electrode plate 111 and the second electrode plate 112. The electrode assembly 110 may be formed, for example, in a roll-type, in which the first electrode plate 111, the second electrode plate 112, and the separator 113 are wound into a roll shape. For example, the winding axis of the electrode assembly 110 may be parallel to the length direction of the battery cell 100 (e.g., Figure 2 In another example, the electrode assembly 110 may be formed into a stacked type in which a plurality of first electrode plates 111 and second electrode plates 112 and a separator 113 are stacked. In yet another example, the electrode assembly 110 may be a hybrid shape of a roll type and a stacked type. When the first electrode plate 111 may be a negative electrode, the second electrode plate 112 may be a positive electrode. Alternatively, when the first electrode plate 111 may be a positive electrode, the second electrode plate 112 may be a negative electrode.

[0052] The first electrode plate 111 may be formed by coating a first electrode active material (such as graphite, carbon, etc.) on a first electrode current collector plate formed of a metal foil (such as copper, copper alloy, nickel, or nickel alloy). The first electrode plate 111 may include a first uncoated portion, which is an area where the first electrode active material is not coated, and at least a portion of the first uncoated portion may include a first electrode tab 121. The first electrode tab 121 may be a current flow path between the first electrode plate 111 and the first current collecting portion. When manufacturing the first electrode plate 111, the first electrode tab 121 may be pre-formed by cutting the first electrode plate 111 so that at least a portion of the first electrode plate 111 protrudes outward from the electrode assembly 110. Optionally, in the absence of a separate cutting process, the first electrode tab 121 may protrude more outward from the electrode assembly 110 than the separator 113.

[0053] The second electrode plate 112 may be formed by coating a second electrode active material (e.g., a transition metal oxide, etc.) on a second electrode current collector plate formed of a metal foil (e.g., aluminum or an aluminum alloy). The second electrode plate 112 may include a second uncoated portion, which is an area where the second electrode active material is not coated, and at least a portion of the second uncoated portion may include a second electrode tab 122. The second electrode tab 122 may be a current flow path between the second electrode plate 112 and the second current collecting portion. When manufacturing the second electrode plate 112, the second electrode tab 122 may be pre-formed by cutting the second electrode plate 112 so that at least a portion of the second electrode plate 112 protrudes outward from the electrode assembly 110. Optionally, in the absence of a separate cutting process, the second electrode tab 122 may protrude more outward from the electrode assembly 110 than the separator 113.

[0054] The electrode assembly 110 may be surrounded by an external member P. For example, Figure 2 As shown, the electrode assembly 110 may have a size smaller than the external member P, and may be located inside the external member P and connected to the protection circuit module 200 through the electrode tab 120 .

[0055] The electrode tab 120 may be connected to the electrode assembly 110. The electrode tab 120 may be electrically connected to the electrode assembly 110 and may be led out of the electrode assembly 110 through the external member P surrounding the electrode assembly 110. For example, the electrode tab 120 may be led out through the platform portion T of the external member P. For example, Figure 2 As shown, the electrode tab 120 may include a first electrode tab 121 and a second electrode tab 122 having opposite polarities, which may be electrically connected to the first electrode plate 111 and the second electrode plate 112, respectively. In addition, the electrode tab 120 may be connected to the substrate tab 220. For example, referring to Figure 5 , the first electrode tab 121 may be connected to the first substrate tab 221, and the second electrode tab 122 may be connected to the second substrate tab 222. The electrode tab 120 may be connected to the substrate tab 220 by, for example, welding, bolting, or the like.

[0056] The insulating tape 130 may be attached to the electrode tab 120 to provide insulation and sealing between the electrode tab 120 and the external member P. For example, Figure 2 As shown, the insulating tape 130 may be located at one side of the electrode tab 120 close to the electrode assembly 110. One side of the insulating tape 130 may be in contact with the electrode assembly 110.

[0057] The first electrode tab 121 and the second electrode tab 122 may be located on the same surface of the electrode assembly 110. Figure 2 As shown, the first electrode terminal tab 121 and the second electrode terminal tab 122 may be disposed on a surface parallel to the winding axis of the electrode assembly 110 (eg, Figure 2 In another example, the first electrode tab 121 and the second electrode tab 122 may be on different surfaces of the electrode assembly 110. The first electrode tab 121 and the second electrode tab 122 are separated from each other, and the first current collecting portion and the second current collecting portion may be welded and connected thereto, respectively.

[0058] The electrode tab 120 may be bent at least once or more times. Figure 5 As shown, the electrode tab 120 may be bent at least one time or more, and the bent portion of the electrode tab 120 may correspond to (eg, face and overlap in the Z-axis direction) the cut portion 230 .

[0059] When connected to the substrate tab 220 of the protection circuit module 200, the electrode tab 120 may be in a bent state, rather than in a longitudinal direction (eg, Figure 2 In the Z-axis direction of the image, a straight line is extended. For example, Figures 3 to 5 As shown, the electrode tab 120 may extend linearly along the length direction of the battery cell 100 and then may extend in the thickness direction of the battery cell 100 (eg, Figure 5 The platform portion T may be bent in the same direction as the electrode terminal tab 120 ( Figure 7 ). When the electrode tab 120 is in a bent state, the fourth tape TP4 and the protection circuit module 200 may be provided thereon in sequence, for example, the fourth tape T4 may be located between the bent electrode tab 120 and the cut portion 230 of the protection circuit module 200. The electrode tab 120 may be bent again toward the substrate tab 220 in the thickness direction of the battery cell 100 ( Figure 7 ).

[0060] like Figure 7 As shown, the electrode terminal tab 120 may include a first bent portion 1201 extending in a height direction of the battery cell 100 (i.e., in a Z-axis direction) and a second bent portion 1202 extending from an end of the first bent portion 1201 in a direction intersecting the extending direction of the first bent portion 1201 (i.e., in an X-axis direction). At least a portion of the first bent portion 1201 may be at the same height as the cutting portion 230, for example, at least a portion of the first bent portion 1201 (e.g., at Figure 5 A portion of the middle electrode tab 120 facing and overlapping the cut portion 230 may be at the same height as the cut portion 230 along the Z-axis direction.

[0061] The electrode terminal tab 120 may include a first bent portion 1201 extending upward from the insulating tape 130 in the height direction of the battery cell 100 and a second bent portion 1202 extending to the left from an end of the first bent portion 1201 in the thickness direction of the battery cell 100 (based on the Figure 7 ). As such, when the electrode tab 120 is bent one or more times, for example, the vertical length of the electrode tab 120 may be reduced, for example, as measured along the Z-axis direction between opposite outer ends, compared to a case where the electrode tab extends vertically (i.e., without any bending). Therefore, the overall length of the battery cell 100 and the battery pack 10 including the battery cell 100 may be reduced.

[0062] For example, Figure 7As shown, when a portion extending from the electrode assembly 110 (i.e., a portion extending directly from the platform portion T and wrapped by the insulating tape 130) is bent together with the platform portion T to extend in the X-axis direction, another portion is bent vertically past the end of the insulating tape 130 (i.e., the first bent portion 1201) to extend in the Z-axis direction, and another portion is bent toward the substrate terminal tab 220 (i.e., the second bent portion 1202) to extend in the X-axis direction and vertically (i.e., in the Z-axis direction) overlap the platform portion T and the insulating tape 130, the electrode terminal tab 120 can be bent a total of three times. In other words, Figure 5 The electrode tab 120 in the embodiment may be bent twice more so that the edge of the electrode tab 120 (ie, Figure 7 The second curved portion 1202 in the embodiment extends along the X-axis direction to insert Figure 5 In the opening of the substrate terminal piece 220 (ie, Figure 7 In another example, the number of bending times of the electrode tab 120 may be greater than three times and may vary in consideration of the size and specifications of the battery cell 100 and the battery pack 10, the connection structure of an external device, etc.

[0063] A distance between the first bent portion 1201 and the substrate 210 may be shorter than a horizontal distance L6 between the first bent portion 1201 and one side surface of the battery cell 100 .

[0064] Although Figure 7 Only the first electrode tab 121 is shown in the figure, but the second electrode tab 122 may have the same connection structure as the substrate tab 220 and the same bending structure as the first electrode tab 121. In other words, the second electrode tab 122 may include a first bending portion 1201 and a second bending portion 1202.

[0065] Reference again Figure 2 , the external member P may be formed as a flexible external member, such as a bag. The external member P may include an insulating layer formed on both sides of a thin metal layer (e.g., aluminum), and may be formed by a forming process (e.g., drawing). The external member P may include a first external member P1 and a second external member P2 facing each other and having the electrode assembly 110 therebetween. The first external member P1 and the second external member P2 may each include an internal space, and after the electrode assembly 110 is placed in one internal space of the first external member P1 or the second external member P2, the other external member may cover the electrode assembly 110.

[0066] The external member P may include a folding portion P3 for folding the first external member P1 and the second external member P2 so as to overlap each other. By folding the first external member P1 and the second external member P2 in a direction facing each other with respect to the folding portion P3, the external member P accommodating the electrode assembly 110 may be formed. For example, Figure 2 As shown, when the first external member P1 and the second external member P2 are folded relative to the folding portion P3, a sealing portion TS for sealing the accommodating portion A (wherein the electrode assembly 110 is accommodated) may be formed. The sealing portion TS may be formed along the periphery of the accommodating portion A to seal the accommodating portion A in which the electrode assembly 110 is accommodated. For example, the sealing portion TS may be formed along other sides of the external member P except for one side of the external member P where the folding portion P3 is formed. For example, when the first external member P1 and the second external member P2 are folded, the external member P may have a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape. The sealing portion TS may be continuously formed along the short side portion and the long side portion of the external member P, except for the short side portion including the folding portion P3 (for example, the folding portion P3 may be opposite to the side of the electrode assembly 110 including the electrode tab 120).

[0067] The sealing portion TS may include a platform portion T from which the electrode tab 120 electrically connected to the electrode assembly 110 is led out, and a side sealing portion S that contacts the platform portion T and extends in a direction crossing the platform portion T. For example, Figure 2 As shown, the platform portion T may be formed at one short side portion of the external member P opposite to the folding portion P3, and the side sealing portion S may be formed at a pair of long side portions of the external member P. In other words, the platform portion T extending in a direction crossing the electrode tab 120 may seal the accommodating portion A, and the side sealing portion S extending in a direction crossing the platform portion T may seal the accommodating portion A. The platform portion T and the side sealing portion S that contact each other and extend continuously may form a sealing portion TS and seal the accommodating portion A together.

[0068] The sealing portion TS may be formed by folding the first external member P1 and the second external member P2 in a direction facing each other. For example, assuming that one surface of the first external member P1 and one surface of the second external member P2 are outer surfaces, the sealing portion TS may include a sealing surface B, which is an inner surface of each of the first external member P1 and the second external member P2 that are in contact with each other between the two outer surfaces. In addition, the platform portion T of the sealing portion TS may include a first surface T1 of the first external member P1 and a second surface T2 of the second external member P2, and the platform portion T may include a sealing surface B, which is an inner surface of each of the first external member P1 and the second external member P2 that are in contact with each other between the first surface T1 and the second surface T2.

[0069] The first external member P1 and the second external member P2 may include a first receiving portion A1 and a second receiving portion A2, respectively, both of which receive different portions of the electrode assembly 110. When the first external member P1 and the second external member P2 are combined with each other, a receiving portion A for completely receiving the electrode assembly 110 may be provided. For example, the receiving portion A of the electrode assembly 110 may be formed by connecting the first receiving portion A1 of the first external member P1 and the second receiving portion A2 of the second external member P2 to each other.

[0070] For example, Figure 3 As shown, the side sealing portions S may be located at both sides of the battery cell 100 in the width direction (e.g., the Y-axis direction) to be folded along the side of the electrode assembly 110 (e.g., upward along the X-axis direction). The pair of side sealing portions S may be folded in one direction (e.g., toward the upper surface of the battery cell 100 or the X-axis direction). Figure 4 As shown, the electrode terminal tab 120 and the platform portion T are folded in the same direction, and then the connection portion between the platform portion T and each of the pair of side sealing portions S may be folded inward. In other words, when the platform portion T and the electrode terminal tab 120 are bent, both ends of the side sealing portion S may be bent toward the electrode terminal tab 120, respectively. Therefore, the size of the battery cell 100 may be increased in the width direction of the battery cell 100 (e.g., Figure 3 The Y-axis direction) is reduced, and the side sealing portion S and the platform portion T can seal the external component P more firmly.

[0071] The protection circuit module 200 may control the charging and discharging operations of the battery cell 100 to prevent over-discharging, over-charging, etc. of the battery cell 100. The protection circuit module 200 may be connected to the battery cell 100 through the electrode tab 120. For example, Figure 5 As shown, the protection circuit module 200 may be located on the top of the battery cell 100 (along the Z-axis direction) from which the electrode tab 120 protrudes. For example, the fourth band TP4 as an insulating band may be on the electrode tab 120, and the protection circuit module 200 may be on the fourth band TP4.

[0072] The protection circuit module 200 may include a substrate 210 , a substrate tab 220 , a cutting portion 230 , an extending portion 240 , a connector 250 , and a notch 260 .

[0073] The substrate 210 may include a conductive pattern and a component C ( Figure 7 ). For example, Figure 5As shown, the substrate 210 may have a long shape in one direction (eg, in the Y-axis direction or the width direction of the battery cell 100). The substrate 210 may include a material that is at least partially flexible as a printed circuit board.

[0074] The substrate tab 220 may include one or more substrate tabs on the substrate 210 and may be connected to the electrode tab 120. The substrate tab 220 may include a conductor such as nickel, copper, aluminum, etc. electrically connected to the electrode tab 120. Figure 5 As shown, the substrate terminal tab 220 may include two substrate terminal tabs spaced apart from each other (e.g., in the Y-axis direction) on a surface (e.g., an upper surface) of the substrate 210. The number of substrate terminal tabs 220 may be the same as the number of electrode terminal tabs 120. The substrate terminal tab 220 may be formed at a position corresponding to the electrode terminal tab 120 (e.g., facing and overlapping the electrode terminal tab 120), and connected to the electrode terminal tab 120 by welding or the like, thereby electrically connecting the battery cell 100 to the protection circuit module 200. For example, as Figure 5 As shown, the substrate tab 220 may include a first substrate tab 221 connected to the first electrode tab 121 and a second substrate tab 222 connected to the second electrode tab 122 .

[0075] The substrate tab 220 may be at least partially bent to seat the electrode tab 120 therein. The substrate tab 220 may include a first portion 2201 and a second portion 2202 bent from the first portion 2201. Figure 7 As shown, the first portion 2201 may be on (e.g., directly on) a surface (e.g., an upper surface) of the substrate 210, and the second portion 2202 may be bent from an end of the first portion 2201 above the first portion 2201 to define a U-shaped structure with the first portion 2201, so that the opening of the U-shaped structure may be oriented toward (e.g., facing) the electrode terminal tab 120. The first portion 2201 and the second portion 2202 may be disposed in a height direction of the battery cell 100 (e.g., in Figure 7 The substrate terminals 220 and 2201 are spaced apart from each other in the Z-axis direction (in the Z-axis direction) to have a space therebetween, and the electrode terminal 120 can be provided therebetween (for example, the electrode terminal 120 can be inserted into the opening of the U-shaped structure between the first part 2201 and the second part 2202 of the substrate terminal 220).

[0076] For example, Figure 7As shown, the electrode tab 120 can be connected (e.g., directly connected) to the second portion 2202 of the substrate tab 220 by, for example, welding, bolting, etc. In another example, the electrode tab 120 can be connected (e.g., directly connected) to the first portion 2201 of the substrate tab 220. In yet another example, one surface of the electrode tab 120 can be connected (e.g., directly connected) to the first portion 2201, and the other surface thereof can be connected (e.g., directly connected) to the second portion 2202. Although the first substrate tab 221 is Figure 7 2201, but the second substrate terminal tab 222 may have the same shape as the first substrate terminal tab 221 and may be connected to the second electrode terminal tab 122 in the same manner. The second portion 2202 may be longer than the first portion 2201, for example, the end of the second portion 2202 may extend beyond the first portion 2201 in the X-axis direction ( Figure 7 ). In addition, the electrode tab 120 may be connected to the lower surface of the second portion 2202, for example, the electrode tab 120 may be connected to the surface of the second portion 2202 facing the first portion 2201 ( Figure 7 ).

[0077] The cutting portion 230 may include one or two cutting portions of the substrate 210. The cutting portion 230 may be formed to extend in a width direction of the substrate 210 (eg, Figure 6 The cutting portion 230 may have an opening formed outward in the width direction of the substrate 210. The cutting portion 230 may be formed at a position corresponding to (for example, at Figure 6 The position of the substrate wiring piece 220 is overlapped in the X-axis direction. Figure 6 As shown, the center of the cutting portion 230 may be coaxial with the center of the substrate tab 220. Therefore, since there is no conductive pattern or component in the area of the substrate 210 where the substrate tab 220 is formed, even if the cutting portion 230 is formed at a position corresponding to the substrate tab 220, no damage is caused to the actual area of the substrate 210. In addition, the cutting portion 230 may naturally guide the electrode tab 120 to the substrate tab 220.

[0078] Since the cutting portion 230 is formed at a position corresponding to the position where the electrode tab 120 is connected to the substrate tab 220, a sufficient distance between the electrode tab 120 and the side surface of the battery cell 100 can be ensured. For example, when the cutting portion 230 is formed in the substrate 210, even if the electrode tab 120 is pulled toward the substrate tab 220, the cutting portion 230 can give a free (e.g., empty) space between the substrate 210 and the electrode tab 120. Due to the free space, the substrate 210 can be pulled toward the substrate tab 220 in the thickness direction (e.g., Figure 7 The electrode tab 120 is positioned on one side of the battery cell 100 (in the X-axis direction), so that the electrode tab 120 can be sufficiently secured to be in contact with the one side surface of the battery cell 100 (for example, Figure 7 Likewise, by ensuring a sufficient distance between the inner surface of the first tape TP1 covering the top of the battery pack 10 and the electrode tab 120, interference between the first tape TP1 and the electrode tab 120, such as interference caused by external impact or the like, can be prevented or substantially minimized.

[0079] As described above, in a state where the electrode tab is bent one or more times to reduce the total length of the battery pack, if the electrode tab is pressed by an external load, the electrode tab may be separated from the substrate tab or cut off from the substrate tab, or a short circuit may occur in the battery cell, resulting in stability problems. In contrast, since the battery pack 10 according to the example embodiment has a sufficient space between the substrate 210 and the side surfaces of the battery cell 100 through the cutting portion 230, interference between the substrate 210 and the component C on the substrate 210 and the electrode tab 120 can be prevented or substantially minimized, thereby ensuring stability.

[0080] refer to Figure 6 , the cutting portion 230 may be cut in the width direction of the substrate 210 (eg, Figure 6 The depth D1 may be less than half of the total width of the substrate 210 (e.g., in the X-axis direction). In addition, the depth D1 may have a value such that the end of the cutting portion 230 does not contact the electrode terminal tab 120. For example, the depth D1 may be about 25% to about 45% of the total width of the substrate 210, such as about 30% to about 40%. The depth D1 satisfying the above range may prevent interference between the electrode terminal tab 120 and the substrate 210 without excessively reducing the stiffness (e.g., rigidity) of the substrate 210. The cutting portion 230 may be spaced apart from the end of the substrate terminal tab 220, for example, in the X-axis direction.

[0081] The cutting portion 230 may include sections having different widths, for example, the cutting portion 230 may include a width that varies in the Y-axis direction. For example, the cutting portion 230 may have a shape in which the width gradually increases from the central portion of the substrate 210 toward the outer side. For example, the cutting portion 230 may include an innermost portion 2301 adjacent to the center of the substrate 210 in the width direction and having a width greater than the width of the electrode tab 120, an outermost portion 2303 on the outer side of the substrate 210 in the width direction, and a connecting portion 2302 between the innermost portion 2301 and the outermost portion 2303. The width of the cutting portion 230 gradually increases in the order of the innermost portion 2301, the connecting portion 2302, and the outermost portion 2303, and the connecting section between the innermost portion 2301, the connecting portion 2302, and the outermost portion 2303 may have a curved shape. For example, as Figure 6 As shown, the innermost portion 2301 of the cutting portion 230 may have a width L1, and the outermost portion 2303 of the cutting portion 230 may have a width L3 greater than the width L1. In addition, the connecting portion 2302 between the innermost portion 2301 and the outermost portion 2303 of the cutting portion 230 may have a width L2 greater than the width L1 and less than the width L3. In this way, since the cutting portion 230 has a width that increases toward the side closer to the electrode tab 120 and decreases inward, the electrode tab 120 can be stably aligned in the cutting portion 230. The connecting section between the innermost portion 2301, the connecting portion 2302, and the outermost portion 2303 may have a curved shape. Therefore, even if the electrode tab 120 contacts the corresponding connecting section, the electrode tab 120 and the connecting section are not damaged by each other, and the electrode tab 120 can be smoothly guided inward along the shape of the connecting section.

[0082] The widths L1, L2, and L3 may all be greater than the width of the electrode tab 120, for example, in the Y-axis direction. The width L1 may be less than the width of the substrate tab 220 (for example, in the Y-axis direction), the width L2 may be substantially the same as the width of the substrate tab 220, and the width L3 may be greater than the width of the substrate tab 220. Therefore, the electrode tab 120 guided toward the innermost portion 2301 via the outermost portion 2303 and the connecting portion 2302 may be stably connected to the substrate tab 220 in the innermost portion 2301.

[0083] The cutting portion 230 may include a first cutting portion 231 and a second cutting portion 232. The first cutting portion 231 may be formed on one side of the substrate 210 to correspond to the first substrate terminal piece 221, and the second cutting portion 232 may be formed on the other side of the substrate 210 to correspond to the second substrate terminal piece 222. The first cutting portion 231 and the second cutting portion 232 may have the same shape and size. For example, Figure 6 As shown, each of the first cutting portion 231 and the second cutting portion 232 may include a varying width in the Y-axis direction defined by an innermost portion 2301 , a connecting portion 2302 , and an outermost portion 2303 .

[0084] When the protection circuit module 200 is connected to the battery cell 100, the electrode tab 120 may be close to the substrate 210. Figure 7 As shown, the electrode tab 120 may include a first bent portion 1201 and a second bent portion 1202, and the first bent portion 1201 may substantially contact an imaginary line extending along a side surface of the substrate 210 or at least be close to the imaginary line. In other words, the inner surface of the first bent portion 1201 may contact an imaginary line extending along an edge of the side surface of the substrate 210 where the cutting portion 230 is formed. That is, the inner surface of the first bent portion 1201 facing the cutting portion 230 in the X-axis direction ( Figure 7 ) may be in contact with an imaginary line connecting opposite edges of the outermost portion 2303 in the Y-axis direction ( Figure 6 ). In addition, at least a partial section of the first bent portion 1201 may be located at the same height as the cutting portion 230. In other words, even if the electrode tab 120 remains in a state of being pulled toward the substrate 210, the cutting portion 230 is formed in a region of the substrate 210 corresponding to the electrode tab 120, thereby preventing interference between the substrate 210 and the electrode tab 120 (for example, due to an empty space defined by the cutting portion 230 overlapping the first bent portion 1201 and a portion of the second bent portion 1202, direct contact between the substrate 210 and the first bent portion 1201 and the portion of the second bent portion 1202 of the electrode tab 120 may be prevented).

[0085] like Figure 5 As shown, the extension portion 240 may extend from the substrate 210 to connect the substrate 210 to the connector 250. For example, as shown in FIG. Figure 5 As shown, the extension portion 240 may extend from the end of the substrate 210 in the length direction of the substrate 210 (eg, Figure 5 The substrate 210 extends in the Y-axis direction and then extends in a direction different from the length direction of the substrate 210 (for example, Figure 5The extension portion 240 may extend in the Z-axis direction of the battery pack 10 or in the thickness direction of the substrate 210). The extension portion 240 may have a width equal to or less than the width of the protection circuit module 200 and may include a deformable flexible material. The extension portion 240 may extend toward the battery cell 100 (e.g., extending downward in the Z-axis direction along the side surface of the battery cell 100), and the connector 250 may be located at the end of the extension portion 240. The connector 250 may connect the protection circuit module 200 to an external device outside the battery pack 10, such as an application, a controller, etc.

[0086] like Figure 6 As shown, the notch 260 may include one or more notches formed in the substrate 210, and may prevent deformation, such as twisting, of the substrate 210, etc. For example, the notch 260 may be formed at a position corresponding to the substrate tab 220, and if the substrate tab 220 is connected to the substrate 210 or the substrate tab 220 is connected to the electrode tab 120, the notch 260 may prevent deformation of the substrate 210 from occurring or substantially minimize deformation of the substrate 210. The notches 260 may be provided in the same number as the number of the substrate tabs 220. For example, the notch 260 may include a first notch 261 and a second notch 262 formed at positions corresponding to the first substrate tab 221 and the second substrate tab 222, respectively, and is formed so that a portion of the substrate 210 is in the width direction of the substrate 210 (e.g., Figure 6 The notch 260 may have a width L4 in the Y-axis direction that is smaller than the width of each of the substrate tab 220 and the cut portion 230. The notch 260 may have a width L4 in the width direction of the substrate 210 (eg, Figure 6 The depth D2 may be less than half of the total width of the substrate 210. The notch 260 may be coaxial with the substrate tab 220 and the cutting portion 230.

[0087] The battery pack 10 may include a tape. The tape may be between the battery cell 100 and the protection circuit module 200 or outside the battery cell 100 and / or the protection circuit module 200. The tape may insulate the battery cell 100 and the protection circuit module 200 from each other to protect the battery cell 100 and the protection circuit module 200 from external impact. The tape may include an insulating and / or flame retardant material, such as polytetrafluoroethylene. The tape may include a first tape TP1, a second tape TP2, a third tape TP3, and a fourth tape TP4.

[0088] The first tape TP1 may be located on the top of the battery cell 100 to cover the protection circuit module 200 and the battery cell 100. Figure 1As shown, when the battery cell 100 and the protection circuit module 200 are connected to each other, the first tape TP1 may be on top of the protection circuit module 200 to cover the top portion of the front and rear surfaces of the battery cell 100. Figure 7 As shown, the first tape TP1 may be in a form that surrounds not only the component C but also the protection circuit module 200 and the electrode tab 120. The first tape TP1 may be spaced apart from the electrode tab 120 by a distance L6 and spaced apart from the other end of the substrate 210 (i.e., the other end of the substrate 210 relative to the electrode tab 120) by a distance L8. The distance L6 between the electrode tab 120 and the first tape TP1 may be greater than the distance L8 between the first tape TP1 and the other end of the substrate 210 (e.g., the other end of the substrate 210 may be the second side opposite to the first end of the substrate 210 where the electrode tab 120 is located). The distance L6 may be about two times to about five times the distance L8. When the distances L6 and L8 satisfy the corresponding ranges, a sufficient distance between the electrode tab 120 and the battery cell 100 is ensured on one side of the substrate 210 where the cutting portion 230 is formed, and at the same time, the distance between the substrate 210 and the battery cell 100 on the other side of the substrate 210 may be prevented from being too narrow.

[0089] The second tape TP2 may be located on both side surfaces of the battery cell 100. Figure 1 As shown, the second tape TP2 may be located between the extension portion 240 of the protection circuit module 200 and the battery cell 100. The second tape TP2 may prevent the extension portion 240 from directly contacting the battery cell 100. The upper portion of the second tape TP2 may be on the upper surface of the battery cell 100, and the lower portion thereof may be on the lower surface of the battery cell 100. The second tape TP2 may be connected to the fourth tape TP4 or may be formed integrally with the fourth tape TP4.

[0090] The third tape TP3 may be located at the top portion of the battery cell 100 before the electrode tab 120 and the platform portion T are folded, and may prevent the top portion of the battery cell 100 from directly contacting the electrode tab 120. Figure 3 As shown, the third tape TP3 may have a length corresponding to the width (e.g., Y-axis direction) of the battery cell 100, and may be located at the top portion of the battery cell 100. In this state, the electrode tab 120 and the platform portion T may be folded toward the upper surface of the exterior member P (e.g., the first exterior member P1), and the side sealing portions S on both sides may also be folded inward.

[0091] The fourth tape TP4 may be located on the electrode tab 120 and / or the insulating tape 130. For example, Figure 4As shown, when the electrode tab 120 and the platform portion T are in a bent state, the fourth tape TP4 may be provided thereon. The fourth tape TP4 may cover the electrode tab 120, the platform portion T, the insulating tape 130, and a portion of the side sealing portion S at both sides together, thereby ensuring sealing and insulation between the components.

[0092] The electrode assembly 110 may include, on its upper surface, a first region 1101 located at one side relative to the electrode tab 120 and having a relatively large size, and a second region 1102 located at the other side of the electrode tab 120 and having a smaller size than the first region 1101. Figure 7 As shown, the first region 1101 and the second region 1102 are regions on the upper surface of the electrode assembly 110 where the electrode tab 120 is formed, wherein with reference to the drawings, the first region 1101 may be on the right side of the electrode tab 120, and the second region 1102 may be on the left side of the electrode tab 120. In addition, the size of the first region 1101 may be larger than the size of the second region 1102. The electrode tab 120 may be formed in the thickness direction of the battery cell 100 (e.g., Figure 7 The electrode tab 120 may be bent toward the first region 1101, and the cut portion 230 may be above the first region 1101.

[0093] In another example, if Figure 8 As shown, at least a portion of the electrode tab 120 may be located within the cutting portion 230 (e.g., extending through and perpendicular to the cutting portion 230). For example, at least a portion of the first curved portion 1201 of the electrode tab 120 may be inside the cutting portion 230. In other words, the first curved portion 1201 may be within a closed contour formed by the contour of the cutting portion 230 and the side surface of the substrate 210 where the cutting portion 230 is formed. Therefore, the distance L7 between the first curved portion 1201 and the side surface of the battery cell 100 (or the first band TP1) may be greater than the distance L6 between the substrate 210 and the side surface of the battery cell 100 (or the first band TP1). As such, since the electrode tab 120 is located inside in the width direction of the substrate 210, it is possible to prevent or substantially minimize the electrode tab 120 from being pressed by an external impact.

[0094] In another example, Fig. 9 As shown, the electrode tab 120 may be led out in different directions to be connected to the substrate tab 220. In other words, the electrode tab 120 may be bent toward the second region 1102, and the cut portion 230 may be above the second region 1102. That is, Figure 7 and Figure 8Unlike the electrode tab 120 extending to one side (the right side in the figure), the electrode tab 120 extends to the other side ( Fig. 9 In addition, the cutout portion 230 formed in the substrate 210 and the substrate tab 220 may also correspond to the electrode tab 120 (on the left side in the figure). The extended electrode tab 120 may be connected to the substrate tab 220 via the cutout portion 230. For example, Fig. 9 As shown, the third band TP3 may be below the platform portion T, and in the platform portion T, the insulating band 130 may be tilted upward at a certain angle. At the end of the insulating band 130, the first curved portion 1201 may extend upward to pass through the cutting portion 230. In other words, as a part of the electrode tab 120, at least a portion of the first curved portion 1201 may be inside the cutting portion 230. At the end of the first curved portion 1201, the second curved portion 1202 extends toward the substrate tab 220 to be connected to the substrate tab 220. The distance between the substrate 210 and one side surface of the battery cell 100 (the left side surface in the figure or the inner surface of the first band TP1) may be L6, and the distance between the electrode tab 120 (the first curved portion 1201) and one side surface of the battery cell 100 (the left side surface in the figure or the inner surface of the first band TP1) may be L7. The distance L6 may be shorter than the distance L7. In other words, the horizontal distance between the electrode tab 120 and one side surface of the battery cell 100 may be longer than the horizontal distance between one side of the substrate 210 where the electrode tab 120 is located and the one side surface of the battery cell 100. In addition, the distance between the opposite end of the substrate 210 and the side surface of the battery cell 100 (the inner surface of the first band TP1) may be L8. The distance L8 may be longer than the distance L7. As such, since the electrode tab 120 extends from a side having a relatively shorter distance to the side surface of the battery cell 100 and is then connected to the substrate tab 220, the extension length of the electrode tab 120 may be reduced. In addition, since the electrode tab 120 is located on one side of the top of the battery cell 100 ( Fig. 9 The right side in the figure ensures a large space, so a good connection with another application can be maintained through this space.

[0095] In summary and review, in order to reduce the overall length of the battery pack, the platform portion of the battery cell can be bent and formed into a horizontal structure. However, if the platform portion is pressed in a bent state, the electrode assembly may be pressed to cut off or short-circuit the tabs of the battery cell.

[0096] In contrast, one or more embodiments include a battery pack having a sufficient space between the electrode tab of the battery cell and the outer surface of the battery cell. That is, since the battery pack according to the embodiment includes a cutout portion formed in the substrate of the protection circuit module and the substrate is moved to one side, the electrode tab can be stably connected to the protection circuit module.
