Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a car access assembly having two differently oriented strain gauges (a main strain gauge and an additional strain gauge). In particular, the additional strain gauge is oriented in an inclined manner relative to the main strain gauge. Background Art
[0002] It is known to build different commands into the car access assembly of a vehicle. Such commands may include release, lock or automatic door opening.
[0003] Therefore, the car access assembly comprises different sensors linked to the control assembly of the vehicle. This provision is satisfactory because different commands are available to users at the same location.
[0004] However, there is a trend towards clean handle designs for car access assemblies. The aim is to have a handle with a smooth design, without noticeable elements. Such a handle may have a wing shape and be painted in a glossy black.
[0005] Another trend is to place the car access assembly in the B-pillar or C-pillar area so that the car access assembly becomes almost invisible. The B-pillar or C-pillar area is very compact and reinforced to withstand side impact impacts.
[0006] Therefore, it is very challenging to integrate the car access assembly in this area of the door with the required design. Furthermore, when several functions are integrated in the handle, it becomes even more challenging from a packaging point of view and an electronics point of view.
[0007] The present invention aims to solve all or some of the above disadvantages. Summary of the invention
[0008] To this end, the present invention relates to a car access assembly comprising:
[0009] a support blade extending according to a base plane, the support blade being configured to be mounted on a structural support of the vehicle door,
[0010] a main strain gauge mounted on the supporting blade and configured to measure, in the base plane, an elongation or a contraction of the main strain gauge according to a main direction,
[0011] an additional strain gauge mounted on the supporting blade so as to extend at least partially in an inclined manner relative to the base plane, the additional strain gauge being configured to measure an elongation or a contraction of the additional strain gauge according to a second direction that is not co-linear with the main direction,
[0012] A handle cover, the handle cover is configured to be installed around the support blade, the main strain gauge and the additional strain gauge; the handle cover has a main actuation area and an additional actuation area, the main actuation area is configured to be manually actuated according to or parallel to the main direction to trigger the main strain gauge, and the additional actuation area is configured to be manually actuated according to or parallel to an additional direction to trigger the additional strain gauge, the additional direction is transverse to the main direction.
[0013] This arrangement makes it possible to easily distinguish different commands of a user who manually actuates the handle cover. In practice, the respective orientation of the main strain gauge and the additional strain gauge facilitates the interpretation of the measurement signals. There is less risk of having measurement signals that could lead to doubts about the actuation area actually used.
[0014] This configuration allows for reducing the size of the car access assembly and placing the additional strain gauges close to the primary strain gauges, even though they are measuring different user manual inputs.
[0015] According to one aspect of the present invention, the handle cover is provided with a main transmission component, which contacts the supporting blade in an area of the supporting blade that is aligned or merged with the main strain gauge position according to the main direction. The main transmission component is configured to apply strain or load on the supporting blade so that when the main actuation area is manually actuated according to the main direction or parallel to the main direction, the main actuation area extends or contracts the main strain gauge according to the main direction.
[0016] This arrangement enables a connection to be established between a manual action of the user on the primary actuation area according to the primary direction and the triggering of the primary strain gauges.
[0017] In fact, when the support blade is mounted on the structural support of the vehicle door, it appears that the support blade is held in place by the structural support, while the handle cover is loaded by the user's hand. Therefore, a cooperation between the support blade and the handle cover is required, which helps trigger the primary strain gauge to obtain a reliable command.
[0018] According to one aspect of the invention, the primary transmission member is a pin extending from the handle cover. Preferably, the pin extends transversely to the base plane when the handle cover is mounted around the support blade.
[0019] The main transmission part can be away from the main strain gauge according to the main direction. In this case, the main transmission part can cooperate with the face of the support blade on which the main strain gauge is located.
[0020] Alternatively, the main transmission component can cooperate with the opposite face of the support blade on the other side of the face where the main strain gauge is located. In this case, the main transmission component can also be below the main strain gauge.
[0021] According to one aspect of the invention, the primary strain gauges extend in a planar manner parallel to the base plane.
[0022] According to one aspect of the present invention, the handle cover is provided with an additional transmission component, which contacts the supporting blade in an area of the supporting blade that is aligned or merged with the position of the additional strain gauge according to an additional direction, and the additional transmission component is configured to apply strain on the supporting blade so that when the additional actuation area is manually actuated according to or parallel to the additional direction, the additional strain gauge is extended or contracted.
[0023] This arrangement enables linking a manual action of a user on an additional actuation area according to an additional direction with the triggering of an additional strain gauge.
[0024] According to one aspect of the invention, the additional transmission member is a pin extending from the handle cover.
[0025] The additional transmission component may cooperate with an opposite face of the support blade, which is located on the other side of the face where the additional strain gauge is located. In this case, the additional transmission component may also be below the additional strain gauge.
[0026] Alternatively, the additional transmission component may be located away from the additional strain gauge according to an additional direction. In this case, the additional transmission component may cooperate with the face of the support blade where the additional strain gauge is located.
[0027] According to one aspect of the present invention, the handle cover includes an upper cover and a lower cover, which are configured to cooperate with each other, for example, by each including corresponding parts of a snap mechanism.
[0028] Preferably, the upper cover comprises a main transmission component, and the lower cover comprises an additional transmission component.
[0029] According to one aspect of the invention, the additional strain gauge extends at least partially in a curved manner.
[0030] This arrangement enables the additional strain gauge to be triggered not only according to the additional direction but also according to other directions tangential to the curvature of the additional strain gauge.
[0031] The sensed signals according to these other directions are more or less important, depending on the curvature to which the strain gauge is attached.
[0032] The combined effect of the primary and additional strain gauges is to capture the three-dimensional forces and ultimately filter out requests that may be misuse cases or coming from undesired directions that are not relevant to the primary function.
[0033] In practice, it becomes apparent if only the main strain gauge or only the additional strain gauge is triggered or both simultaneously. The strength of the signal generated by the additional strain gauge also tells in which direction the actuation is in accordance.
[0034] A strong or relevant signal is received for actuation according to the additional direction, while the additional strain gauge may bend in a manner that receives a weaker signal from other directions.
[0035] In the event of a misuse being detected, the signal may be considered unintentional because both the primary and additional strain gauges are actuated together.
[0036] Instead, the additional strain gauge may extend in a planar manner and be triggered only according to the additional direction. This alternative construction is simple and the advantages of having the additional strain gauge in the vicinity of the main strain gauge still apply.
[0037] According to one aspect of the invention, the additional strain gauge comprises a portion extending according to the base plane.
[0038] In addition to the signals from the main strain gauges, this setup also allows the detection of forces applied by the user according to their direction within the base plane.
[0039] Typically, this may help distinguish between a user applying a force on the primary actuation area according to a primary direction and a user grasping the handle or using the handle as a hook for a bag.
[0040] Combining the signals from the primary strain gauge and from the additional strain gauges helps to more accurately determine the user command.
[0041] According to one aspect of the invention, the portion of the additional strain gauge extending according to the base plane is parallel to the main direction.
[0042] The parts are thus oriented to detect extensions or contractions parallel to the main direction in the base plane.
[0043] As an example, such an arrangement helps to detect whether the user is actually trying to actuate the primary actuation area. If the signal received by the primary strain gauge and the signal received by the additional strain gauge both correspond to an elongation, and if the signal from the primary strain gauge is more correlated or stronger, it can be concluded that the command is correct.
[0044] Conversely, if the additional strain gauge signal is more correlated or stronger, it may mean that there is misuse and the handle cover is being actuated in an inappropriate area.
[0045] Of course, other interpretations of the two signals are possible depending on the geometry of the car access assembly, the location and sensitivity of the sensors.
[0046] According to one aspect of the invention, the supporting blade comprises an additional extension portion, which extends at least partially in an inclined manner relative to the base plane; the additional strain gauge is at least partially mounted on the additional extension portion.
[0047] The at least partially inclined extension of the additional strain gauge is defined by the geometry of the additional extension portion relative to the base plane.
[0048] In other words, the support blade extends mainly according to the base plane, but also has additional extensions with different orientations. This arrangement enables easy mounting of additional strain gauges on the support blade in the correct orientation.
[0049] According to one aspect of the present invention, the car access assembly includes a flexible circuit board configured to be mounted on the supporting blade and to receive the primary strain gauge and the additional strain gauge.
[0050] In other words, the flexible circuit board is placed between the supporting blade on one side and the main strain gauge and the additional strain gauge on the other side. This structure simplifies the electrical connection of the main strain gauge and the additional strain gauge to track the signal.
[0051] According to one aspect of the present invention, a flexible circuit board includes a connection section configured to be connected to a control component of a vehicle.
[0052] Preferably, the support blade has a through opening for the passage of the connecting section. In particular, the control assembly of the vehicle is mounted on the structural support.
[0053] According to one aspect of the invention, the car access assembly is provided with fixing means for being mounted on corresponding means of a structural support. For example, the fixing means comprises a screw and a guide opening for the screw in a support blade.
[0054] According to one aspect of the invention, the supporting blade comprises a main extension portion extending at least partially in an inclined manner relative to a base plane; the main strain gauges are aligned with the main extension portion according to the main direction.
[0055] This geometric configuration enhances the structure of the support blade and can also be used as a basic element for including other components in the handle cover. In addition, this component can cooperate with the handle cover to transmit the user's force by contacting with the main actuation area.
[0056] According to one aspect of the present invention, the handle cover comprises:
[0057] a base portion extending according to the base plane and at least partially surrounding the supporting blade, and
[0058] An actuation portion is linked to the base portion and extends transversely thereto, the actuation portion comprising the main actuation area and the additional actuation area so as to be actuable according to or parallel to the main direction and the additional direction.
[0059] This arrangement defines the form of the handle. It appears that the orientation of the actuating portion enables easier transmission of commands to the primary and additional strain gauges.
[0060] According to one aspect of the invention, the actuating portion has a main edge, which extends parallel to the base plane and transversely to the main direction so as to define a main actuating area; and wherein the actuating portion has an additional edge, which extends transversely to the main edge and is oriented toward the base portion so as to define the additional actuating area.
[0061] The handle cover presents a wing shape, the lateral portion defined by the additional edge is operable as an additional actuation area, and the straight portion defined by the main edge is operable as a main actuation area.
[0062] According to one aspect of the invention, the actuation portion starting from the main edge is manually operable by a user parallel to the main direction. Preferably, from the user's perspective, when pushed is associated with the first function and when pulled is associated with the second function.
[0063] According to one aspect of the invention, the actuation portion starting from the additional edge can be manually operated by a user in a direction transverse to the additional edge. The user can tap or press the additional edge to actuate the third function. The direction extending transverse to the additional edge corresponds to the additional direction.
[0064] The first function may be an automatic opening command for a door. The second function may be to open the door so that the user can pull the door manually. The third function may be to lock and unlock the vehicle.
[0065] Thanks to the vehicle's control components, these functions can also be reprogrammed by the user.
[0066] According to an aspect of the invention, the actuation portion may include an optional sensing unit configured to be linked to a dedicated portion of the flexible circuit board.
[0067] The optional sensing unit is then used as a redundant sensor to improve filtering of the signal. The optional sensing unit may comprise, for example, a capacitive sensor.
[0068] Optional sensing units may also include LED modules, NFC proximity sensors and / or light guides or access lights.
[0069] According to one aspect of the invention, the car access assembly includes a resin configured to fill the gap between the handle cover and the remaining internal components of the car access assembly. This acts like a protective glove, making the car access assembly tight and waterproof.
[0070] The invention also relates to a vehicle door comprising a structural support and a car access assembly as described above, the support vane being mounted on the structural support of the vehicle door, the structural support being part of a pillar of the vehicle door or being mounted on a pillar of the vehicle door.
[0071] Since the main strain gauge and the additional strain gauge can be placed close to each other in the handle cover, there is no difficulty in mounting the car access assembly on a vehicle pillar. In particular, the pillar corresponds to a B-pillar or a C-pillar.
[0072] The invention also relates to a vehicle comprising at least one door as described above.
[0073] Different aspects defined above which are not incompatible may be combined. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0081] In the following detailed description of the drawings defined above, identical elements or elements fulfilling the same function may retain the same reference numerals in order to simplify the understanding of the invention.
[0082] like Figures 1 to 6 As shown, the car access assembly 1 comprises a support blade 3 extending according to a base plane 5, the support blade 3 being configured to be mounted on a structural support 7 of a vehicle door.
[0083] The car access assembly 1 comprises a main strain gauge 9 which is mounted on the supporting blade 3 and is configured to measure an extension or a contraction of the main strain gauge 9 according to a main direction 11 in the base plane 5 .
[0084] The car access assembly 1 comprises an additional strain gauge 13 which is mounted on the supporting blade 3 to extend at least partially in an inclined manner with respect to the base plane 5. The additional strain gauge 13 is configured to measure an extension or a contraction of the additional strain gauge 13.
[0085] The car access assembly 1 includes a handle cover 15 configured to be mounted around the support blade 3 , the main strain gauge 9 and the additional strain gauge 13 .
[0086] like Figure 1 and Figure 2 As shown, the handle cover 15 has a main actuation area 17 and an additional actuation area 19, the main actuation area 17 is configured to be manually actuated according to a main direction 11 or parallel to the main direction 11 to trigger the main strain gauge 9, and the additional actuation area 19 is configured to be manually actuated according to an additional direction 21 transverse to the main direction 11 or parallel to the additional direction 21 to trigger the additional strain gauge 13.
[0087] like Figure 3 As shown, the handle cover 15 is provided with a main transmission element 23 which is in contact with the support blade 3 in the region of the support blade 3 which is aligned or merged with the main strain gauge 9 in terms of the main direction 11 .
[0088] The main transmission part 23 is configured to exert a strain on the support blade 3 such that the main strain gauge 9 is extended or contracted according to the main direction 11 when the main actuation area 17 is manually actuated according to or parallel to the main direction 11 .
[0089] This establishes a connection between a manual action of the user on the main actuation region 17 according to the main direction 11 and the triggering of the main strain gauge 9 .
[0090] In fact, when the support blade 3 is mounted on the structural support 7 of the vehicle door, it appears that the support blade 3 is held in place by the structural support 7, while the handle cover 15 is loaded by the user's hand. Therefore, cooperation between the support blade 3 and the handle cover 15 is required, which helps trigger the main strain gauge 9 to obtain a reliable command.
[0091] The main transmission member 23 is a pin extending from the handle cover 15. When the handle cover 15 is mounted around the support blade 3, the pin extends transversely to the base plane 5.
[0092] The main transmission part 23 here moves away from the main strain gauge 9 according to the main direction 11. In this case, the main transmission part 23 cooperates with the surface of the support blade 3 on which the main strain gauge 9 is located.
[0093] The main strain gauges 9 extend in a planar manner parallel to the base plane 5 .
[0094] like Figure 4As shown, the handle cover 15 is provided with an additional transmission member 25 which contacts the support blade 3 in a region of the support blade 3 which is aligned or merged with the additional strain gauge 13 according to the additional direction 21 .
[0095] The additional transmission member 25 is configured to exert a strain on the supporting blade 3 such that when the additional actuation area 19 is manually actuated according to or parallel to the additional direction 21 , the additional strain gauge 13 is extended or contracted.
[0096] This links a manual action of the user on the additional actuation area 19 according to the additional direction 21 with the triggering of the additional strain gauge 13 .
[0097] The additional transmission component 25 is a pin extending from the handle cover 15 .
[0098] The additional transmission component 25 cooperates with the opposite face of the support blade 3, which is located on the other side of the face where the additional strain gauge 13 is located. In this case, the additional transmission component 25 is located below the additional strain gauge 13.
[0099] like Figure 1 As shown, the handle cover 15 includes an upper cover 27 and a lower cover 29, which are configured to cooperate with each other, for example, by each including corresponding parts of a snap mechanism. The upper cover 27 includes the main transmission component 23, and the lower cover 29 includes the additional transmission component 25.
[0100] The additional strain gauge 13 extends at least partially in a curved manner. This makes it possible to trigger the additional strain gauge 13 not only according to the additional direction 21 but also according to other directions tangential to the curvature of the additional strain gauge 13 .
[0101] The sensed signals according to these other directions are more or less important, depending on the curvature of the additional strain gauge 13 .
[0102] The combined effect of the primary strain gauge 9 and the additional strain gauge 13 is to capture the three-dimensional forces and ultimately filter out requests that may be misuse cases or coming from undesired directions not relevant to the primary function.
[0103] In practice, it becomes apparent if only the main strain gauge 9 or only the additional strain gauge 13 is triggered or both simultaneously. The strength of the signal generated by the additional strain gauge 13 also tells the direction according to which the actuation is carried out.
[0104] A strong or relevant signal is received for actuation according to the additional direction 21 , whereas the additional strain gauge 13 may bend in such a way as to receive a weaker signal for other directions.
[0105] In case of detected misuse, the signal may be considered unintentional because both the main strain gauge 9 and the additional strain gauge 13 are actuated together.
[0106] The additional strain gauge 13 comprises a portion 31 extending according to the base plane 5. It allows, in addition to the signal from the main strain gauge 9, also the force applied by the user according to a direction within the base plane 5 to be detected.
[0107] Generally, this may help to differentiate between a user applying a force on the main actuation area 17 according to the main direction 11 and a user grasping the handle or using the handle as a hook for a bag.
[0108] Combining the signals from the main strain gauge 9 and from the additional strain gauge 13 helps to determine the user command more accurately.
[0109] The section 31 of the additional strain gauge 13 which extends in accordance with the base plane 5 is parallel to the main direction 11 .
[0110] The portion 31 is thus oriented to detect an extension or contraction parallel to the main direction 11 in the base plane 5 .
[0111] As an example, this arrangement helps to detect whether the user actually attempts to actuate the main actuation area 17. If the signal received by the main strain gauge 9 and the signal received by the additional strain gauge 13 both correspond to an elongation, and if the signal from the main strain gauge 9 is more correlated or stronger, it can be concluded that the command is correct.
[0112] Conversely, if the additional strain gauge 13 signal is more correlated or stronger, this may mean that there is misuse and the handle cover is being actuated in an inappropriate area.
[0113] Of course, depending on the geometry of the car access assembly 1, the location and sensitivity of the sensors, other interpretations of the two signals are possible.
[0114] The supporting blade 3 comprises an additional extension 33 which at least partially extends in an inclined manner with respect to the base plane 5 ; the additional strain gauge 13 is at least partially mounted on said additional extension 33 .
[0115] The at least partially oblique extension of the additional strain gauge 13 is defined by the geometry of the additional extension 33 relative to the base plane 5 .
[0116] In other words, the supporting blade 3 mainly extends according to the base plane 5, but also has a differently oriented additional extension 33. This arrangement enables easy mounting of the additional strain gauge 13 on the supporting blade 3 in the correct orientation.
[0117] like Figure 5 and Figure 6 As shown, the car access assembly 1 comprises a flexible circuit board 35 which is configured to be mounted on the support blade 3 and to receive the main strain gauge 9 and the additional strain gauge 13 .
[0118] In other words, the flexible printed circuit board 35 is placed between the supporting blade 3 on one side and the main strain gauge 9 and the additional strain gauge 13 on the other side.
[0119] The flexible circuit board 35 includes a connection section 37 that is configured to be connected to a control component 39 of the vehicle.
[0120] The support blade 3 has a through opening 41 for the passage of the connecting section 37. The control assembly 39 of the vehicle is mounted on the structural support 7.
[0121] The car access assembly 37 is provided with fixing means 43 for being mounted on corresponding means of the structural support 7. For example, said fixing means 43 comprises a screw and a guide opening for the screw in the support blade 3.
[0122] The supporting blade 3 comprises a main extension 45 which extends at least partially in an inclined manner relative to the base plane 5 ; the main strain gauges 9 are aligned with said main extension 45 according to the main direction 11 .
[0123] like Figure 2 As shown, functionally, the handle cover 15 comprises a base portion 47 which extends according to the base plane 5 and at least partially surrounds the support blade 3 .
[0124] The handle cover 15 further comprises an actuation portion 49 linked to the base portion 47 and extending transversely thereto, the actuation portion 49 comprising the main actuation area 17 and the additional actuation area 19 so as to be actuable according to or parallel to the main direction 11 and the additional direction 21 .
[0125] The actuation portion 49 has a main edge 51 which extends parallel to the base plane 5 and transversely to the main direction 11 in order to define a main actuation region 17 .
[0126] The actuation portion 49 also has an additional edge 53 which extends transversely to the main edge 51 and is oriented towards the base portion 47 in order to define an additional actuation region 19 .
[0127] The handle cover 15 presents a wing shape with a lateral portion defined by the additional edge 53 and a straight portion defined by the main edge 51 .
[0128] The actuation portion 49 starting from the main edge 51 is manually operable by a user parallel to the main direction 11. From the user's point of view, the first function is associated when pushing and the second function is associated when pulling.
[0129] The actuation portion 49 starting from the additional edge 53 can be manually operated by a user in a direction transverse to the additional edge 53. The user can tap or press the additional edge 53 to actuate the third function. Said direction extending transverse to the additional edge 53 corresponds to the additional direction 21.
[0130] The first function may be an automatic opening command for a door. The second function may be to open the door so that the user can pull the door manually. The third function may be to lock and unlock the vehicle.
[0131] Thanks to the vehicle's control assembly 39, these functions can also be reprogrammed by the user.
[0132] like Figure 5 and Figure 6 As shown, the actuation portion 49 may include an optional sensing unit 55 that is configured to be linked to a dedicated portion of the flexible circuit board 35 .
[0133] The optional sensing unit 55 then acts as a redundant sensor to improve the filtering of the signal. The optional sensing unit 55 may comprise, for example, a capacitive sensor.
[0134] The optional sensing unit 55 may also include an LED module, an NFC proximity sensor and / or a light guide or access light.
[0135] The car access assembly 1 includes a resin configured to fill the gap between the handle cover and the remaining internal components of the car access assembly 1. This works like a protective glove, making the car access assembly 1 tight and durable.
[0136] The door obtained comprises a structural support 7 and a car access assembly 1 as described above, the support blade 3 being mounted on the structural support 7 of the door, which is part of a pillar of the door or mounted on a pillar of the door.
[0137] Since the main strain gauge 9 and the additional strain gauge 13 can be placed close to each other in the handle cover 15, there is no difficulty in mounting the car access assembly 1 on a vehicle pillar. In particular, the pillar corresponds to a B-pillar or a C-pillar.
[0138] The vehicle may then include several doors as described above.
[0139] The described vehicle handle has different commands integrated in a small place and can have a simple design. In fact, the corresponding orientation of the main strain gauge 9 and the additional strain gauge 13 helps to interpret the measurement signal. There is less risk of having a measurement signal that could lead to doubts about the actuation area actually used.
[0140] It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the only embodiment described above by way of example, but that it encompasses all variants.
