[0205] polymer
[0206] For washing synergistic, polymers can be advantageously used in household cleaning formulations, particularly in liquid laundry detergent formulations. The polymer is preferably polyalkoxylated polyethyleneimine (EPEI). Polyethyleneimine is a material consisting of ethyleneimine units -CH2CH2NH-, and when branched, the hydrogen on the nitrogen is replaced by another chain of ethyleneimine units. These polyethyleneimines can be prepared, for example, by polymerizing ethyleneimine in the presence of catalysts such as carbonic acid gas, sodium bisulfite, sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, hydrochloric acid, acetic acid, etc. The specific method for preparing these polyamine skeletons is disclosed in US2,182,306, US 3,033,746, US2,208,095, US2,806,839 and US2,553,696.
[0207] Household cleaning formulations, especially liquid laundry detergent formulations, may contain other polymeric materials, for example: dye transfer inhibiting polymers, anti-redeposition polymers and cotton soil release polymers, especially those based on modified cellulosic materials. In particular, when EPEI is not present, the formulation may additionally contain a polymer of polyethylene glycol and vinyl acetate, such as the lightly grafted copolymers described in WO2007 / 138054. Such amphiphilic graft polymers based on water-soluble polyalkylene oxides as grafting bases and side chains formed by polymerizing vinyl ester components have the ability to allow surfactant levels to be reduced while maintaining high levels of oily soil removal.

[0227] The following examples are intended to illustrate the subject matter of the invention without limiting it. Example
[0228] Material
[0229] Flex is commercially available from Clariant. Chemical name: Capryl / hexanoyl anhydrous methyl glucamide (and) water, active ingredient content: 70% by weight. Capryl / hexanoyl anhydrous methyl glucamide is a mixture of a compound of formula (I) wherein R is -(CH2)8CH3 and a compound of formula (I) wherein R is -(CH2)6CH3.
[0230] SC is commercially available from Clariant. Chemical name: Sorbitan octanoate.
[0231] CGE is commercially available from Clariant. Chemical name: Caprylyl Glyceryl Ether.
[0232] Octylhydroxamic acid (hereinafter also referred to as CHA) is commercially available from TCI Chemicals.
[0233] Example 1
[0234] The antimicrobial properties of Velsan Flex, CHA and the combination of the two were studied against bacteria, fungi and molds: To test the inhibition of bacteria, Velsan Flex, CHA or the combination of the two were diluted in 1,2-propylene glycol and added to liquid Caso-Agar at 50°C in different concentrations and buffered to pH 7 (+ / - 0.2). To test the inhibition of fungi and molds, Velsan Flex, CHA or the combination of the two were diluted in 1,2-propylene glycol and added to liquid Sabouraud-4% Dextrose-Agar at 50°C in different concentrations and buffered to pH 5.6 (+ / - 0.2). Each solution was poured into a petri dish and inoculated with the same amount of bacteria, fungi or molds. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is the lowest concentration of each composition that inhibits the growth of each microorganism, while the next lowest dilution fails to inhibit the growth of the microorganism. The experiments were conducted under scientifically sound conditions so that appropriate comparisons can be made and conclusions can be drawn.
[0235] The results are shown in the following table:
[0236]
[0237]
[0238] It can be seen that the combination of the two ingredients shows a synergistic effect, since the MIC of the combination is lower than the MIC of the individual ingredients. This effect is observed on a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including both bacteria and fungi. This leads to the following advantages: preparations, such as cosmetic preparations or household preparations, can be preserved with less preservatives, reducing the possibility of adverse effects from antimicrobial active substances and saving resources.
[0239] Example 2
[0240] Corrosion protection demonstrated in challenge tests:
[0241] Synergistic effect and the ability of typical cosmetic preparations for wash-free application to preserve are also shown. The following examples show the challenge test results completed according to the 5.1.3 chapter of the 10th edition of the European Pharmacopoeia. The following test bacteria are used as representative microorganisms: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram-negative organism, referred to as "Pa"), Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive organism, referred to as "Sa"), Escherichia coli (Escherichia coli) (Gram-negative organism, referred to as "Ec"), Candida albicans (Candida albicans) (fungus, referred to as "Ca") and Aspergillus terreus (Aspergillus terreus) (mold, referred to as "Ab").
[0242] The A criterion represents the recommended efficacy to be achieved. In justified cases where the A criterion cannot be achieved (e.g. due to increased risk of adverse reactions), the B criterion must be met. The A criterion relates to excellent protection of the formulation, and the B criterion is required to show adequate protection but requires the application of additional risk elimination measures related to packaging and raw material quality. For any tested organism, the F criterion means that the entire challenge test fails and the preservation and / or protection of the formulation is insufficient.
[0243] As a reference, unpreserved samples of each formulation were also tested.
[0244] Example 2A
[0245] As test systems, difficult-to-preserve preparations were used.
[0246] Leave-on type: O / W-cream gel
[0247]
[0248] The results of the challenge tests of the test formulations at pH 5 and pH 7 are shown in the table below.
[0249]
[0250] The unpreserved test system failed the challenge test for all test bacteria at pH 5 (entry 4). The use level of 1.35% Velsan Flex did not adequately preserve the formulation because it was not able to resist Ab (entry 2). Only a B-standard was obtained at the use level of 0.15% octylhydroxamic acid (entry 3). In contrast, the combination of the two ingredients at 1.35% and 0.15% use levels reached the A-standard for all test organisms, providing excellent protection for the formulation. The same formulation failed again at pH 7 (entry 8) for all test bacteria. When 0.15% CHA was used as a single preservative (entry 7), it only reached the B-standard for Sa and E.coli. 1.35% Velsan Flex also failed to preserve the formulation (entry 6). The combination of the two ingredients again showed an A-qualified excellent protection for all test organisms.
[0251] Example 2B
[0252] As test system the following preparation was used:
[0253]
[0254] The results of the challenge tests of the test formulations at pH 5 and pH 7 are shown in the table below.
[0255] Results at pH 5:
[0256]
[0257]
[0258] Results at pH 7:
[0259] entry 1 2 3 4 5 6 CHA 0.1% 0.1% 0.1% Velsan SC 0.9% 0.9% Velsan CGE 0.9% 0.9% Unpreserved X Pseudomonas aeruginosa F A F B A A Staphylococcus aureus F F A A A A Escherichia coli F B B A A A Candida albicans F A B A A A Aspergillus terreus F A F F A A Overall Results F F F F A A
[0260] The combination of Velsan SC and CHA provided excellent results at pH 5 and pH 7. Likewise, the combination of Velsan CGE and CHA provided excellent results at pH 5 and pH 7. The combination provided significantly better results than the individual ingredients.
