Abstract
Description
[0001] This application is a divisional application of a Chinese invention patent with an application date of February 23, 2021, application number 202180016067.2, and invention name “Physical random access channel configuration under maximum allowable exposure conditions”.
[0002] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0003] This patent application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 980,668, filed on February 24, 2020, entitled “Physical Random Access Channel Configuration for Maximum Allowable Exposure Conditions,” and U.S. Non-Provisional Patent Application No. 17 / 181,897, filed on February 22, 2021, entitled “Physical Random Access Channel Configuration for Maximum Allowable Exposure Conditions,” which are expressly incorporated herein by reference. Background Art
[0004] Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and techniques and apparatus for configuring physical random access channel communications.
[0005] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide a variety of telecommunication services, such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcasting. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies that can support multiple user communications by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc.). Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and long term evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
[0006] A wireless communication network may include multiple base stations (BSs) that can support communications for many user equipments (UEs). A UE may communicate with a BS via a downlink and an uplink. A "downlink" (or "forward link") refers to a communication link from a BS to a UE, and an "uplink" (or "reverse link") refers to a communication link from a UE to a BS. As will be described in more detail herein, a BS may be referred to as a Node B, gNB, access point (AP), radio head, transmit receive point (TRP), new radio (NR) BS, 5G Node B, etc.
[0007] The above-mentioned multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different user devices to communicate at a city, country, region, or even global level. NR, also known as 5G, is a set of enhancements to the LTE mobile standard released by 3GPP. NR aims to better support mobile broadband Internet access by improving spectrum efficiency, reducing costs, improving services, utilizing new spectrum, and better integrating with other open standards, which use orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) (CP-OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) on the downlink (DL), CP-OFDM and / or SC-FDM (e.g., also known as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink (UL), and support beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, and carrier aggregation. However, as the demand for mobile broadband access continues to grow, further improvements in LTE and NR technologies are needed. Preferably, these improvements should be applicable to other multiple access technologies and telecommunication standards that adopt these technologies. Summary of the invention

[0052] A user equipment (UE) may use a random access channel (RACH) procedure to synchronize with a base station and establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection to the base station. This may give the UE the ability to send and receive data to and from the base station. To begin the RACH procedure, the UE may send a random access channel (RACH) message to the base station to initiate communication with the base station. The RACH message may be a physical RACH (PRACH) communication, or a communication sent on the PRACH. The PRACH communication may be a preamble, which is one of a variety of patterns or signatures recognized by the base station. The UE may request an uplink allocation from the base station using a PRACH communication.
[0053] Some regulatory agencies have set limits on the peak radiated power directed toward the human body. These limits are sometimes referred to as maximum permissible exposure (MPE) limits, MPE constraints, etc. PRACH communications may be subject to MPE conditions. If MPE conditions cause PRACH communications to fail, the device sending the PRACH communication will waste resources and latency will increase.
[0054] According to various aspects described herein, if the PRACH communication is subject to an MPE condition, the UE may use an alternative PRACH configuration to send the PRACH communication. For example, the UE may use a PRACH format, a PRACH length, a PRACH sequence set, a bandwidth, or a combination thereof to send the PRACH communication, which is different from the case where the PRACH communication is not subject to an MPE condition.
[0055] In some aspects, if the PRACH communication is subject to an MPE condition, the UE may use a rule for selecting a PRACH configuration. The UE may receive parameters for the rule from the base station. For example, the UE may receive an updated signal strength threshold as a trigger for when the UE uses an alternative PRACH configuration. By dynamically providing parameters for the rule for selecting a PRACH configuration, the base station may exercise greater flexibility in handling MPE conditions at the UE.
[0056] The various aspects of the present disclosure will be described more fully below with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, the present disclosure can be implemented in many different forms and should not be interpreted as being limited to any specific structure or function presented throughout the present disclosure. On the contrary, these aspects are provided to make the present disclosure thorough and complete, and to fully convey the scope of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art. Based on the teachings herein, it should be understood by those skilled in the art that the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover any aspect disclosed herein, whether implemented independently of any other aspect of the present disclosure or implemented in combination with any other aspect of the present disclosure. For example, any number of aspects set forth herein can be used to implement a device or practice method. In addition, the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover such a device or method, which uses other structures, functions, or other structures and functions of the various aspects of the present disclosure other than those set forth herein to practice. It should be understood that any aspect of the disclosure disclosed herein can be embodied by one or more elements of the claims.
[0057] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be described with reference to various devices and techniques. These devices and techniques will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, components, assemblies, circuits, steps, processes and / or algorithms (collectively referred to as "elements"). These elements may be implemented using hardware, software, or a combination thereof. Whether these elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and design constraints on the overall system.
[0058] It should be noted that although terms generally associated with 5G or NR radio access technologies (RATs) may be used herein to describe various aspects, various aspects of the present disclosure may be applicable to other RATs, such as 3G RATs, 4G RATs, and / or RATs beyond 5G (e.g., 6G).
[0059] Figure 1is a diagram showing an example of a wireless network 100 according to the present disclosure. Among other examples, the wireless network 100 may be or may include elements of a 5G (NR) network and / or an LTE network. The wireless network 100 may include a plurality of base stations 110 (shown as BS110a, BS110b, BS110c, and BS 110d) and other network entities. A base station (BS) is an entity that communicates with a user equipment (UE) and may also be referred to as a base station, NR BS, Node B, gNB, 5G Node B (NB), access point, transmit receive point (TRP), etc. Each BS may provide communication coverage for a specific geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to a coverage area of a BS and / or a BS subsystem serving the coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used.
[0060] A BS may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a pico cell, a femto cell, and / or another type of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access to UEs with service subscriptions. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access to UEs with service subscriptions. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a home) and may allow restricted access to UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). The BS of a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. The BS of a pico cell may be referred to as a pico BS. The BS of a femto cell may be referred to as a femto BS or a home BS. In Figure 1 In the example shown, BS 110a may be a macro BS of macro cell 102a, BS 110b may be a pico BS of pico cell 102b, and BS 110c may be a femto BS of femto cell 102c. A BS may support one or more (e.g., three) cells. The terms "eNB", "base station", "NR BS", "gNB", "TRP", "AP", "Node B", "5G NB", and "cell" may be used interchangeably herein.
[0061] In some examples, the cell is not necessarily fixed, and the geographic area of the cell can move according to the location of the mobile BS. In some examples, the BSs can be interconnected with each other and / or to one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in the wireless network 100 through various types of backhaul interfaces (such as direct physical connections or virtual networks) using any suitable transport network.
[0062] The wireless network 100 may also include a relay station. A relay station is an entity that can receive data transmissions from an upstream station (e.g., a BS or a UE) and send data transmissions to a downstream station (e.g., a UE or a BS). A relay station may also be a UE that is capable of relaying transmissions for other UEs. Figure 1 In the illustrated example, a relay BS 110d may communicate with a macro BS 110a and a UE 120d to facilitate communication between the BS 110a and the UE 120d. A relay BS may also be referred to as a relay station, a relay base station, and / or a relay.
[0063] The wireless network 100 may be a heterogeneous network including different types of BSs, such as a macro BS, a pico BS, a femto BS, and / or a relay BS. These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and different effects on interference in the wireless network 100. For example, a macro BS may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5 to 40 watts), while a pico BS, a femto BS, and a relay BS may have a lower transmit power level (e.g., 0.1 to 2 watts).
[0064] A network controller 130 may be coupled to a set of BSs and may provide coordination and control for these BSs. The network controller 130 may communicate with the BSs via a backhaul. The BSs may also communicate with each other, for example, directly or indirectly via a wireless or wired backhaul.
[0065] UE 120 (e.g., 120a, 120b, 120c) can be dispersed in the wireless network 100, and each UE can be fixed or mobile. UE can also be referred to as an access terminal, terminal, mobile station, subscriber unit and / or station. UE can be a cellular phone (e.g., a smart phone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet computer, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device or equipment, a biosensor / device, a wearable device (smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., smart ring, smart bracelet)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music or video device, or a satellite radio), a vehicle component or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, an industrial manufacturing device, a global positioning system device, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via a wireless or wired medium.
[0066] Some UEs may be considered as machine type communication (MTC) or evolved or enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) UEs. MTC and eMTC UEs include, for example, robots, drones, remote devices, sensors, meters, monitors and / or location tags, which may communicate with a base station, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. For example, a wireless node may provide a connection to a network (e.g., a wide area network such as the Internet or a cellular network) via a wired or wireless communication link. Some UEs may be considered as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and / or may be implemented as NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) devices. Some UEs may be considered as customer premise equipment (CPE). UE 120 may be included inside a housing that houses components (e.g., processor components and / or memory components) of UE 120. In some aspects, the processor component and the memory component may be coupled together. For example, a processor component (e.g., one or more processors) and a memory component (e.g., a memory) may be operably coupled, communicatively coupled, electronically coupled, and / or electrically coupled.
[0067] Generally, any number of wireless networks can be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network can support a specific RAT and can operate on one or more frequencies. RAT can also be referred to as radio technology or air interface. Frequency can also be referred to as carrier or channel. Each frequency can support a single RAT in a given geographic area to avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks can be deployed.
[0068] In some aspects, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly (e.g., without using base station 110 as a medium for communicating with each other) using one or more sidelink channels. For example, UE 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocol (e.g., which may include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocol or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocol) and / or mesh network. In some aspects, UE 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and / or other operations performed by base station 110 as described elsewhere herein.
[0069] The electromagnetic spectrum is often subdivided into various categories, bands, channels, etc. based on frequency / wavelength. In 5GNR, the two initial operating bands are identified with the frequency range names FR1 (410MHz–7.125GHz) and FR2 (24.25GHz–52.6GHz). It should be understood that although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6GHz, FR1 is often referred to (interchangeably) as a "sub-6GHz" band in various documents and articles. A similar naming issue sometimes occurs with FR2, which is often (interchangeably) referred to as a "millimeter wave" band in documents and articles, although it is different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30GHz–300GHz) that is identified as a "millimeter wave" (mmWave) band by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
[0070] Frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are often referred to as mid-band frequencies. Recent 5G NR research has identified operating bands for these center frequencies as the frequency range designation FR3 (7.125 GHz–24.25 GHz). Frequency bands that fall within FR3 may inherit FR1 characteristics and / or FR2 characteristics, and may therefore effectively extend the characteristics of FR1 and / or FR2 to the center frequencies. In addition, higher frequency bands are currently being explored to extend 5G NR operations above 52.6 GHz. For example, three higher operating bands are identified as the frequency range designations FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz–71 GHz), FR4 (52.6 GHz–114.25 GHz), and FR5 (114.25 GHz–300 GHz). Each of these higher frequency bands falls within the EHF band.
[0071] In view of the above, unless otherwise stated, it should be understood that the term "sub-6GHz" and the like, if used herein, can broadly refer to frequencies below 6GHz, can be within FR1, or can include a center frequency. In addition, unless otherwise stated, it should be understood that the term "millimeter wave" and the like, if used herein, can broadly refer to frequencies that can include a center frequency, can be within FR2, FR4, FR4-a or FR4-1 and / or FR5, or can be within the EHF band.

The communication manager 140 may send the PRACH communication based at least in part on the configuration. Additionally or alternatively, the communication manager 140 may perform one or more other operations described herein.
[0073] Similarly, the base station 110 may include a communication manager 150. The communication manager 150 may send parameters of a rule that the UE will use to select a configuration from the one or more configurations based at least in part on the MPE condition. The communication manager 150 may receive the PRACH communications. Additionally or alternatively, the communication manager 150 may perform one or more other operations described herein.
[0076] As mentioned above, Figure 1 Provided as examples only. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 1 as described.
[0077] Figure 2 A block diagram of a design 200 of a base station 110 and a UE 120 is shown, which may be Figure 1 Base station 110 may be equipped with T antennas 234a through 234t, and UE 120 may be equipped with R antennas 252a through 252r, where in general T≥1 and R≥1.
[0078] At the base station 110, the transmit processor 220 may receive data for one or more UEs from the data source 212, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for each UE based at least in part on a channel quality indicator (CQI) received from the UE, process (e.g., encode and modulate) the data for each UE based at least in part on the (multiple) MCS selected for each UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. The transmit processor 220 may also process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI) and the like) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, upper layer signaling, etc.), and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. The transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., cell-specific reference signals (CRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., primary synchronization signals (PSS) and secondary synchronization signals (SSS)). The transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, and / or reference symbols (if applicable), and may provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MOD) 232a to 232t. Each modulator 232 may process a corresponding output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 232 may further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and up-convert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The T downlink signals from modulators 232a to 232t may be transmitted via T antennas 234a to 234t, respectively. According to various aspects described in more detail below, position coding may be used to generate synchronization signals to convey additional information.
[0079] At the UE 120, antennas 252a to 252r may receive downlink signals from the base station 110 and / or other base stations, and may provide received signals to demodulators (DEMODs) 254a to 254r, respectively. Each demodulator 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) the received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator 254 may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain received symbols. The MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from all R demodulators 254a to 254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols if applicable, and provide detected symbols. The receive processor 258 may process (e.g., demodulate and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for the UE 120 to the data sink 260, and provide decoded control information and system information to the controller / processor 280. The channel processor may determine a reference signal received power (RSRP), a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), a reference signal received quality (RSRQ), and / or a CQI.In some aspects, one or more components of UE 120 may be included in a housing.
[0080] On the uplink, at the UE 120, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 and control information from a controller / processor 280 (e.g., for reports including RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, CQI, etc.). The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266, if applicable, further processed by modulators 254a through 254r (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM, CP-OFDM, etc.), and transmitted to the base station 110. At the base station 110, uplink signals from the UE 120 and other UEs may be received by the antenna 234, processed by the demodulator 232, detected by the MIMO detector 236 (if applicable), and further processed by the receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information transmitted by the UE 120. The receive processor 238 may provide decoded data to a data sink 239 and may provide decoded control information to a controller / processor 240. The base station 110 may include a communication unit 244 and communicate with the network controller 130 via the communication unit 244. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 120 may include means for performing one or more other operations described herein. In some aspects, such an apparatus may include the communications manager 140. Additionally or alternatively, such means may include means for incorporating Figure 2 One or more components of UE 120 are described.

Additionally or alternatively, the base station 110 may include means for performing one or more other operations described herein. In some aspects, such means may include the communications manager 150. In some aspects, such means may include in conjunction with Figure 2 One or more components of base station 110 are described.
[0084] In some aspects, the UE 120 may include means for receiving one or more configurations of PRACH communications from a base station, and / or means for sending PRACH communications according to a configuration selected from one or more configurations based at least in part on PRACH communications subject to MPE conditions and rules. The rules may include parameters received from the base station. The means of the UE 120 to perform the operations described herein may include, for example, one or more of the antenna 252, the demodulator 254, the MIMO detector 256, the receive processor 258, the transmit processor 264, the TX MIMO processor 266, the modulator 254, the controller / processor 280, or the memory 282. In some aspects, the UE 120 may include means for receiving rules for selecting a configuration from a base station.
[0085] In some aspects, the base station 110 may include means for sending one or more configurations of PRACH communications to the UE, and / or means for sending parameters of the rule that the UE will use to select a configuration from the one or more configurations based at least in part on the MPE condition, and / or means for receiving PRACH communications. In some aspects, the base station 110 includes means for sending the rule to the UE.
[0086] As mentioned above, Figure 2 Provided as examples only. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 2 as described.
[0087] Figure 3 is a diagram illustrating an example 300 of a synchronization signal (SS) hierarchy according to the present disclosure. Figure 3 As shown, the SS hierarchy may include an SS burst set 305, which may include multiple SS bursts 310, shown as SS Burst 0 through SS Burst N-1, where N is the maximum number of repetitions of the SS burst 310 that the base station can send. As further shown, each SS burst 310 may include one or more SS blocks (SSBs) 315, shown as SSB 0 through SSB M-1, where M is the maximum number of SSBs 315 that the SS burst 310 can carry. In some aspects, different SSBs 315 may be beamformed differently (e.g., transmitted using different beams) and may be used for beam management, beam selection, etc. (e.g., as part of an initial network access procedure). The SS burst set 305 may be sent by a wireless node (e.g., base station 110) periodically (e.g., every X milliseconds), such as Figure 3 In some aspects, the SS burst set 305 may have a fixed or dynamic length, such as Figure 3 In some aspects, a wide broadcast SSB beam may be used for the RACH process.
[0088] In some aspects, the SSB 315 may include resources that carry a primary synchronization signal (PSS) 320, a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) 325, and / or a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) 330. In some aspects, multiple SSBs 315 are included in the SS burst 310 (e.g., for transmission on different beams), and the PSS 320, SSS 325, and / or PBCH 330 may be the same on each SSB 315 of the SS burst 310. In some aspects, a single SSB 315 may be included in the SS burst 310. In some aspects, the length of the SSB 315 may be at least four symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols), where each symbol carries one or more PSS 320 (e.g., occupying one symbol), SSS 325 (e.g., occupying one symbol), and / or PBCH 330 (e.g., occupying two symbols). In some aspects, the SSB 315 may be referred to as a SS / PBCH block.
[0089] In some aspects, the symbols of SSB 315 are consecutive, such as Figure 3 As shown. In some aspects, the symbols of the SSB 315 are non-contiguous. Similarly, in some aspects, one or more SSBs 315 of the SS burst 310 can be sent in contiguous radio resources (e.g., consecutive symbols) during one or more time slots. Additionally or alternatively, one or more SSBs 315 of the SS burst 310 can be sent in non-contiguous radio resources.
[0090] In some aspects, the SS burst 310 may have a burst periodicity, and the SSB 315 of the SS burst 310 may be sent by a wireless node (e.g., base station 110) according to the burst periodicity. In this case, the SSB 315 may repeat during each SS burst 310. In some aspects, the SS burst set 305 may have a burst set periodicity, whereby the SS bursts 310 of the SS burst set 305 are sent by the wireless node according to a fixed burst set periodicity. In other words, the SS burst 310 may repeat during each SS burst set 305.
[0091] In some aspects, the SSB 315 may include an SSB index corresponding to the beam used to carry the SSB 315. The UE 120 may monitor and / or measure the SSB 315 using different receive (Rx) beams during an initial network access procedure. Based at least in part on the monitoring and / or measurement, the UE 120 may indicate to the base station 110 one or more SSBs 315 having the best signal parameters (e.g., RSRP parameters, etc.). The base station 110 and the UE 120 may use the one or more indicated SSBs 315 to select one or more beams for communication between the base station 110 and the UE 120 (e.g., for RACH procedures, etc.). In some aspects, the UE may use the RSRP broadcasted by the SSB to help determine the configuration of the PRACH communication.
[0092] As mentioned above, Figure 3 are provided as examples. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 3 as described.
[0093] As mentioned above, the UE can send a RACH message to the base station to initiate communication with the base station. The RACH message can be the first thing the UE sends when the UE is powered on. The RACH message can be sent on the PRACH and can be more generally referred to as a PRACH communication. The UE can use PRACH communication to request an uplink allocation from the base station.
[0094] A PRACH communication may include a PRACH sequence (also referred to as a PRACH preamble or a PRACH preamble sequence), which may be used to distinguish UEs. A UE may use a PRACH format to determine a PRACH sequence and / or transmission attributes of a PRACH sequence. A UE may receive an initial PRACH configuration in a transmission from a base station and use the initial PRACH configuration to send a PRACH communication. A PRACH communication may initiate a RACH procedure to obtain an uplink allocation.
[0095] Figure 4A is a diagram showing an example 400 of a 4-step RACH procedure, and Figure 4B is a diagram illustrating an example 402 of a 2-step RACH procedure. In each example, a UE is performing a RACH procedure with a base station.
[0096] In LTE and NR, a 4-step RACH procedure may be a RACH procedure with a handshake of four messages (msg1, msg2, msg3, msg4) between the UE and the base station. As an example of PRACH communication, the UE may send msg1 with a PRACH preamble to the base station on the PRACH. When the UE is subject to the MPE condition, the PRACH communication may follow the PRACH configuration selected based on the rules for selecting the PRACH configuration. The base station may send msg2 to the UE on the physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) and the physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH). msg2 may include a random access response. The UE may send msg3 on the physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). msg3 may include a contention request and device information. The base station may send msg4 on the PDCCH and PDSCH. msg4 may include contention resolution. Contention requests and contention resolution involve resolving contention from multiple UEs that happen to use the same PRACH preamble.
[0097] In NR, the 2-step RACH procedure is another RACH procedure. In the 2-step procedure, the base station broadcasts system information and SSB information to the UE. As an example of PRACH communication, the UE can send the PRACH preamble as part of the msgA message to the base station. When the UE is subject to MPE conditions, the PRACH communication can follow the PRACH configuration selected based on the rules for selecting the PRACH configuration. The rules can apply regardless of whether the PRACH communication is msg3 of the 4-step RACH procedure or msgA of the 2-step RACH procedure. msgA can also include a payload. The base station can process the preamble, detect the preamble, and process the payload. The base station can send a response in msgB. msg1 and msg3 of the 4-step RACH can be considered to be compressed into msgA, while msg2 and msg4 can be considered to be compressed into msgB.
[0098] Depending on the PRACH configuration selected due to the MPE condition, the UE may send PRACH communications with a PRACH format, PRACH length, PRACH sequence set, bandwidth, or a combination thereof, which is different from the case where the PRACH communications are not subject to the MPE condition. Figure 4A and Figure 4B are provided as two examples of RACH procedures. Other examples may differ from those regarding Figure 4A and Figure 4B as described.
[0099] Figure 5A-5C is a diagram illustrating an example 500 of MPE conditions. Figure 5A Shown are a BS 510 and a UE 520 that may be in communication with each other.
[0100] like Figure 5A As shown, UE 520 and BS 510 may have the capability to communicate via one or more beams. In some cases, an uplink beam such as beam 530 may be a mmWave beam carrying communications in a mmWave frequency band. The communications may be PRACH communications such as msg1 preamble (4-step RACH procedure) or msg1 preamble (2-step RACH procedure), such as in conjunction with Figure 4A and Figure 4B When transmitting in the mmWave frequency band, the transmitter can use a higher antenna gain than when transmitting in the sub-6 GHz frequency band. As a result, the effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP), which represents the radiated power in a particular direction (e.g., beam direction), can be higher for mmWave communications than for sub-6 GHz communications. Some regulatory agencies have placed limits on the peak EIRP that can be directed toward the human body. These limits are sometimes referred to as MPE limits or MPE constraints.
[0101] MPE conditions or events may be caused by Figure 5B The blocking scenario shown, where a human body blocks or obstructs the beam 530 from the antenna subarray of the UE 520. Figure 5C In another scenario shown, a human hand may be located near an antenna subarray of UE 520. Beam 530 may be transmitting a threshold level of EIRP to the hand, and thus UE 520 is subject to an MPE condition. In contrast, beam 532 is not transmitted through a human body part, and thus is not subject to an MPE condition. Additionally or alternatively, the MPE condition may arise from the location of another body part of the user (e.g., the user's face, head, ears, and / or legs).
[0102] Beam 530 is an uplink beam that can match a downlink beam to form a reciprocal beam pair. When UE 520 is subject to MPE conditions, the downlink beam of the reciprocal beam pair may be suitable for use by UE 520 to receive communications from BS 510, and may have a better beam condition (e.g., a stronger beam) than other downlink beams. However, due to the MPE condition, beam 530 of the reciprocal beam pair may not be permitted for transmission of communications for UE 520. For example, the downlink beam may not be subject to MPE constraints because the EIRP level of the transmission of station 510 may drop when the transmission reaches UE 520 and / or a hand or other body part of the user. However, uplink beam 130 may be subject to MPE constraints (e.g., maximum transmit power) because the EIRP level of the transmission of UE 520 may exceed the permitted EIRP level due to the close proximity of UE 520 and the hand or other body part.
[0103] In this case, it may be beneficial for the UE 520 and / or BS 510 to use a first beam for uplink communication and a second beam for downlink communication, wherein the first beam (e.g., a UE uplink beam or a BS uplink beam) does not form a reciprocal beam pair with the second beam (e.g., a UE downlink beam or a BS downlink beam). In some aspects, the UE 520 may select a non-reciprocal UE beam to communicate with the BS 510 even if the BS 510 is using a reciprocal BS beam to communicate with the UE 510. For example, the UE uplink beam may be included in another beam cluster. By selecting different UE uplink beams and UE downlink beams, the UE may improve performance while satisfying MPE constraints.
[0104] For a candidate UE uplink beam such as beam 530, UE 520 may determine a maximum transmit power due to an MPE constraint (e.g., an MPE limit, an MPE qualification). As used herein, the maximum transmit power due to an MPE constraint may be referred to as an MPE-constrained maximum transmit power. That is, UE 520 may not use a transmit power that exceeds the MPE-constrained maximum power. In some aspects, the MPE-constrained maximum transmit power of a candidate UE uplink beam may vary over time due to, for example, movement of UE 520 and / or rotation of UE 520. Therefore, UE 520 may determine the MPE-constrained maximum transmit power of a candidate UE uplink beam at a specific time and / or a specific time period.
[0105] In some aspects, the UE 520 may determine the MPE-constrained maximum transmit power for the candidate UE uplink beam based at least in part on the EIRP value of the candidate UE uplink beam, the maximum or peak EIRP value stored by the UE 520 (e.g., specified by a regulatory agency, specified in a wireless communication standard, configured for the UE 520), and / or a determination of whether the candidate UE uplink beam is directed toward a body (e.g., a human body). For example, if the candidate UE uplink beam is not directed toward the body, the UE 520 may set the MPE-constrained maximum transmit power to the maximum transmit power value of the UE 520, which may be stored by the UE 520, may be determined based at least in part on the category of the UE 520, or may be specified by the wireless communication standard. However, if the candidate UE uplink beam is directed toward the body, the UE 520 may set the MPE-constrained maximum transmit power based at least in part on the EIRP value determined for the candidate UE uplink beam and / or the maximum permitted EIRP value.
[0106] like Figure 5B and Figure 5CAs shown, UE 520 may be ready to send PRACH communication to BS 510, but uplink beam 530 may be subject to MPE conditions and another beam may not be selected for PRACH communication. If UE 520 does not consider the MPE conditions, PRACH communication may fail. This failure may cause the UE to waste signaling resources and increase the latency of establishing a connection to BS 510.
[0107] According to various aspects described herein, if UE 520 determines that PRACH communication is subject to MPE conditions, UE 520 may use alternative PRACH configurations to send PRACH communication. For example, UE 520 may use PRACH format, PRACH length, PRACH sequence set, bandwidth or a combination thereof to send PRACH communication, which is different from the case where PRACH communication does not obey MPE conditions. UE 520 may select alternative PRACH configurations according to rules. For example, if the signal strength meets the signal strength threshold, UE 520 may select alternative PRACH formats. Due to the changed conditions, the threshold or other rule parameters may need to be adjusted. In some aspects, BS 510 may send a threshold or other parameters to UE 520. In this way, BS 510 may successfully receive PRACH communication and other PRACH messages. As a result, UE 520 and BS 510 may avoid wasting resources and increase the waiting time of failed PRACH communication.
[0108] As mentioned above, Figure 5A-5C are provided as examples. Other examples are possible and may differ from combining Figure 5A-5C As described.
[0109] Figure 6 An example 600 of PRACH configuration for MPE conditions according to the present disclosure is shown. Figure 6 Base stations (BSs) 610 (eg, Figure 1 and Figure 2 BS 110) and UE 620 (eg, Figure 1 and Figure 2 UE 120 depicted in FIG.
[0110] As shown in the reference numeral 630, the BS 610 may determine a configuration for PRACH communications subject to MPE conditions for use by the UE 620. The configuration may specify a PRACH format, a PRACH length, a PRACH sequence set, a bandwidth, or a combination thereof, which is different from the case where the PRACH communication is not subject to the MPE condition. For example, the configuration may specify that the PRACH communication has a different PRACH format that is reduced in size or number of fields so that the total transmission time (and total transmit power) is lower than the conventionally used PRACH format. In some aspects, the configuration may specify that the PRACH communication has a shorter PRACH length and / or fewer PRACH sequences. In some aspects, the configuration may specify that the PRACH communication will be sent on another frequency or another bandwidth.
[0111] The BS 610 may transmit the configuration to the UE 620, and the UE 620 may receive the configuration, as indicated by reference numeral 635. The BS 610 may transmit the configuration via a Remaining Minimum System Information (RMSI) message or another system information message.
[0112] As indicated by reference numeral 640, the UE 620 may determine the configuration of the PRACH communication based at least in part on the determination that the PRACH communication is subject to the MPE condition. The UE 620 may determine whether the PRACH communication is subject to the MPE condition by using one or more sensors (e.g., ultrasonic proximity sensors, thermal proximity sensors, diode sensors, etc.) to determine whether the PRACH communication is subject to the MPE condition to determine that a person or a body part of a person is nearby and / or may be in a beam path between the UE 620 and the BS 610. The UE 620 may compare the detection information obtained by the one or more sensors with a proximity threshold to determine whether an MPE condition exists. The UE 620 may also make an MPE condition determination based at least in part on the frequency range of the PRACH communication, the spatial filter configuration, the power density, the transmit power, the length of the PRACH communication, etc. The configuration of the PRACH communication may be a configuration received from the BS 610, or the UE 620 may use a configuration included in the stored configuration information.
[0113] In some aspects, the UE 620 may determine a configuration based at least in part on a combination of an MPE constraint and an SSB-based RSRP. For example, the UE 620 may determine a configuration based at least in part on a comparison of the RSRP broadcasted by the SSB and an RSRP threshold applicable to the MPE constraint (e.g., when there is a body close to the direction of the uplink transmission panel and / or UE beam of the UE 620). The RSRP threshold applicable to the MPE constraint may be different from (e.g., lower than) the RSRP threshold not applicable to the MPE constraint. For example, the RSRP threshold applicable to the MPE constraint may be the RSRP threshold not applicable to the MPE constraint minus the threshold offset. The threshold offset may be, for example, 5 decibels (dB). The difference between the RSRP threshold applicable to the MPE constraint and the RSRP threshold not applicable to the MPE may be based at least in part on the frequency band of the PRACH communication. In some aspects, the UE 620 may receive the RSRP threshold from the BS 610. In other words, if the strength of the SSB broadcast does not meet the threshold signal level, the UE 620 may select another PRACH configuration with more transmission time or more transmit power, and if there is no MPE constraint, the other PRACH configuration may be the first configuration, and if there is an MPE constraint, the second configuration.
[0114] In some aspects, the UE 620 may determine a configuration by selecting a configuration from among a plurality of configurations, wherein one or more configurations are applicable to the MPE constraint, and one or more configurations are not applicable to the MPE constraint. In some aspects, the UE 620 may be configured with a rule for determining a configuration. The rule may specify a condition for selecting a configuration, or more specifically, a PRACH length, a PRACH format, a PRACH sequence set, a bandwidth, and / or a combination thereof. For example, when the PRACH communication is subject to the MPE condition and the RSRP of the SSB broadcast does not meet the rule of a specific parameter (such as an RSRP threshold), the rule may specify the use of a configuration with a shorter PRACH length and fewer PRACH sequences. The UE 620 may determine the rule based on the stored configuration information, or receive the rule and / or other parameters associated with the rule (e.g., proximity threshold, EIRP value) from the BS 610 via system information (e.g., RMSI). In short, the UE 620 may determine a configuration for PRACH communication that may meet the MPE constraint and still lead to a successful connection with the BS 610.
[0115] As indicated by reference numeral 645, UE 620 may send PRACH communications based at least in part on the configuration. For example, UE 620 may send PRACH communications that are 1 millisecond in length instead of 2 milliseconds. In another example, UE 620 sends PRACH communications with a smaller set of PRACH sequences.
