Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present disclosure relates to an electrophotographic photosensitive member, and a process cartridge and an electrophotographic apparatus each having the electrophotographic photosensitive member. Background Art
[0002] In recent years, images output from electrophotographic apparatuses are required to have higher image quality and higher stability.
[0003] As technologies for solving such problems, there are Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-101652, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-46640, and Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2023-115641.
[0004] In Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-101652, an electrophotographic photosensitive member containing a specific perinone compound and an amine compound having an ionization potential of 5.4 eV or more and 5.9 eV or less in the atmosphere is described.
[0005] In Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-46640, an electrophotographic photosensitive member having an undercoat layer containing a specific pyrenone compound and polyurethane is described.
[0006] In Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2023-115641, there is described an electrophotographic photosensitive member which contains a triarylamine compound having a reactive group, a curing agent, and an electron transporting material in an undercoat layer and contains a butyral resin in a specific ratio.
[0007] According to studies by the present inventors, it has been found that, in the electrophotographic photosensitive members described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-101652, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-46640, and Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2023-115641, the residual potential is high and there is room for improvement in terms of fluctuation in light area potential.
[0008] In addition, it has been found that, in some electrophotographic photosensitive members described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2023-115641, the residual potential is relatively small, but in some cases, the fluctuation in the light-area potential becomes relatively large. Summary of the invention

[0011] When the ionization potential of the undercoat layer is represented by I Pu, I Pu is 6.0 eV or more,
[0012] When the ionization potential of the support is represented by IPs, IPs is lower than I Pu,
[0013] The primer layer comprises a compound (α),
[0014] When the ionization potential of the compound (α) is represented by IPα, IPα is 5.0 eV or more and 5.4 eV or less, and
[0015] IPs and IPα satisfy the following relation expression (1):
[0016] IPs ≥ IPα - 1.0 (1).
[0017] Further features of the present disclosure will become apparent from the following description of exemplary embodiments with reference to the attached drawings. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0018] Figure 1 A diagram showing one example of a schematic configuration of an electrophotographic apparatus having a process cartridge provided with an electrophotographic photosensitive member. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0019] Embodiments of the present disclosure will now be described in detail according to the accompanying drawings.
[0020] According to the research of the present inventors, it has been found that in the techniques described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-101652, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2020-46640, and Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2023-115641, the injection of holes from the support to the undercoat layer is small. When electrons are retained in the undercoat layer, it is difficult for the electrons to be eliminated. Therefore, the residual potential becomes high, and in some cases, the fluctuation of the bright area potential becomes large.
[0021] In addition, it has been found that, in some photosensitive members described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2023-115641, the residual potential is relatively low, but in some cases, the fluctuation in the light-area potential becomes large.
[0022] In order to solve this technical problem, the present inventors have studied the injection of holes from the support into the undercoat layer.
[0023] As a result of the above-mentioned studies, the present inventors have found that the above-mentioned technical problems can be solved by an electrophotographic photosensitive member having the following configuration.
[0024] Specifically, the present disclosure provides an electrophotographic photosensitive member including a support, an undercoat layer directly formed on the support, and a photosensitive layer formed on the undercoat layer, wherein
[0025] When the ionization potential of the undercoat layer is represented by I Pu, I Pu is 6.0 eV or more,
[0026] When the ionization potential of the support is represented by IPs, IPs is lower than I Pu,
[0027] The primer layer comprises a compound (α),
[0028] When the ionization potential of the compound (α) is represented by IPα, IPα is 5.0 eV or more and 5.4 eV or less, and
[0029] IPs and IPα satisfy the following relation expression (1):
[0030] IPs ≥ IPα - 1.0 (1).
[0031] The present inventors presume that the mechanism by which the above-mentioned technical problem can be solved by the above-mentioned configuration of the present disclosure is as follows.
[0032] In the primer layer formed directly on the support, the electron transport compound and the large ionization potential are included. Due to the characteristics of the primer layer, the injection of holes from the support to the primer layer is small, and the electrons in the primer layer are completely removed by the transport of electrons. Therefore, when electrons are retained in the primer layer, it is difficult for the electrons to be removed from the primer layer, and the residual potential tends to increase easily.
[0033] In the conventional technology, it is presumed that since the electrons retained in the undercoat layer are difficult to be removed, the residual potential becomes high and the fluctuation of the light-area potential becomes large.
[0034] In addition, when the ionization potential of the compound included in the undercoat layer is too small, the residual potential can be reduced, but the balance with the dark area potential is lost, resulting in increased fluctuation of the light area potential.
[0035] In the present disclosure, when the ionization potential of the undercoat layer is represented by I Pu, I Pu is 6.0 eV or more, and when the ionization potential of the support is represented by IPs, IPs is lower than I Pu, and when the ionization potential of the compound (α) is represented by IPα, IPα is 5.0 eV or more and 5.4 eV or less, and
[0036] IPs and IPα satisfy IPs≥IPα-1.0(1); and it is believed that this promotes proper injection of holes from the support into the undercoat layer, makes it easier to remove electrons that tend to remain in the undercoat layer, reduces the residual potential, and further suppresses fluctuations in the bright area potential.
[0037] <Measurement of ionization potential>
[0038] The ionization potential is usually obtained by photoemission yield spectroscopy in Air (PYSA) or photoelectron yield spectroscopy (PYS). It is known that the values obtained by the above two methods are different depending on the difference in the amount of water on the sample surface, etc. The ionization potential in the present disclosure is obtained by photoelectron yield spectroscopy (PYS). The measurement is carried out in a nitrogen atmosphere, and the ionization potential can be obtained from the intersection of the slope of the line in the coordinate system in which the irradiated ultraviolet light is taken on the horizontal axis and the square root of the photoelectron emission amount is taken on the vertical axis and the background.

[0233] [evaluate]
[0234] (Examples 1 to 76 and Comparative Examples 1 to 8)
[0235] The photosensitive member 1 was prepared, mounted on a cyan station of an electrophotographic apparatus (copier) (trade name: image PRESSC 910, manufactured by Canon Inc.) as an evaluation apparatus, and evaluated in the following manner.
[0236] The surface potential of the electrophotographic photosensitive member was measured by taking out the developing cartridge from the evaluation apparatus, setting a potential probe (trade name: Model 6000B-8, manufactured by Midoriya Electric Co., Ltd.) therein, and using a surface potentiometer (Model 344: manufactured by Midoriya Electric Co., Ltd.).
[0237] The dark area potential (Vd) and the light area potential (Vl) were measured at 12 points at intervals of 30° in the circumferential direction at the axial center position of the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and the average values for one rotation were calculated as the respective values.
[0238] First, the voltage applied to the charging roller was adjusted so that the dark area potential (Vd) of the first A4 paper in the electrophotographic photosensitive member for evaluation under an environment of 30°C / 80%RH became -680 V. Next, the image exposure light amount was adjusted so that the light area potential (Vl) of the first A4 paper became -380 V.
[0239] After 3 hours, under an environment of 30°C / 80% RH, 200 sheets of paper were passed through with the voltage applied to the charging roller set to make the dark area potential (Vd) become -680 V and the exposure light amount set to make the light area potential (Vl) become -380 V, and the light area potential during this period was measured.
[0240] The light potential of the first and 200th sheets was calculated by the above method, and the absolute value of (initial light potential - light potential after 200 sheets) was calculated and calculated as the short-term potential fluctuation value. The evaluation results are shown in Table 3-1-2, Table 3-2-2 and Table 4-1-2.
[0241] After measuring the light potential after passing 200 sheets of paper, the residual potential was measured by starting the measurement when the electrophotographic photosensitive member rotated one turn from the position where charging was cut off, and then measuring the potential of the electrophotographic photosensitive member rotating one turn. In addition, the residual potential was also measured at 12 points at intervals of 30° in the circumferential direction, as in the measurement of the light potential. Thereafter, the average value of the electrophotographic photosensitive member rotating one turn was calculated and determined as the residual potential.
[0242] The obtained evaluation results are shown in Table 3-1-2, Table 3-2-2 and Table 4-1-2.
[0243] AC-3 (manufactured by Riken Keiki Co., Ltd.) is used to measure the ionization potential of support, undercoat, compound (α) and comparative compound. The ionization potential of each single substance of compound (α) and comparative compound is measured. In addition, for support, the ionization potential is measured from the surface of the support obtained, and for undercoat, the ionization potential is measured from the surface of the undercoat after forming the undercoat. The starting energy is set to 4.00eV, the ending energy is set to 7.00eV, and the step size is set to 0.05eV. The evaluation results are shown in Table 3-1-1, Table 3-1-2, Table 3-2-1, Table 3-2-2, Table 4-1-1 and Table 4-1-2.
[0244] The residual potential and ionization potential of the undercoat layer were determined in the same manner except that the above-mentioned photosensitive member 1 was replaced with photosensitive members 2 to 76 and photosensitive members 101 to 108. The evaluation results obtained are shown in Tables 3-1-1, 3-1-2, 3-2-1, 3-2-2, 4-1-1 and 4-1-2.
