[0023] providing a plurality of options for selecting at least one communication service for providing information about an operating status of the elevator,

[0024] In response to receiving an indication of at least one selected communication service, a user of the terminal device is associated to access information regarding an operational status of the elevator via the at least one selected communication service.

[0025] The control system can also be configured as:

[0026] Prior to directing the terminal device to access the network service, receiving a request from a communication network provided by the elevator is detected.

[0027] For example, the control system may be configured to indicate that a plurality of options for selecting at least one communication service are provided to correspond to the communication service providing the account to the elevator.

[0028] In addition, the control system can be configured to:

[0029] Information about the at least one communication service accessible to a user of the terminal device is queried from the terminal device.

[0030] The control system may for example be configured to define a number of options provided for selection based on information about at least one communication service accessible to a user of the terminal device.

[0031] The control system may also be configured to arrange for a user of an associated terminal device to access information about the operating state of the elevator via at least one selected communication service by generating a control signal to add the user of the terminal device to the communication service group dedicated to the elevator. The control system may be configured to define data describing an access right level for the user of the terminal device to contribute to the communication service group dedicated to the elevator. Furthermore, the control system may be configured to query the access right level from a data storage and deliver it to at least one communication service associated with the user of the terminal device.

[0032] According to a third aspect, a computer program comprising instructions which, when said program is executed by a computer, cause said computer to perform the steps of the method according to the first aspect as defined above.

[0033] The expression "plurality" herein refers to any positive integer from one, for example to one, two or three.

[0034] The expression "many" herein refers to any positive integer starting from two, for example to two, three or four.

[0035] Various exemplary and non-limiting embodiments of the invention, both as to constructions and methods of operation, together with additional objects and advantages thereof, will be best understood from the following description of specific exemplary and non-limiting embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings.

[0036] The verbs "comprise" and "include" are used in this document as open limitations, which neither exclude nor require the existence of unrecited features. [0041] The specific examples provided in the description given below should not be construed as limiting the scope and / or applicability of the appended claims. The lists and groups of examples provided in the description given below are not exhaustive unless expressly stated otherwise.

[0042] Figure 1 An environment in which a system-level view of the present invention can be implemented according to at least one embodiment of the present invention is schematically shown. The system includes an elevator 110 as a subsystem, the elevator 110 including at least one elevator car 120. The elevator 110 can be provided with a linking element 130, which is implemented in any way so that an individual can use the linking element 130 with her / his terminal device. The use of the linking element 130 at least includes reading the data included in the linking element 130 and using the data stored in the linking element 130 in the manner described in the following description. The linking element 130 can be a physical entity, such as a sticker, a label, or data visualized on a display resident in the elevator car 120, for example. For example, predefined coded data, such as in the form of a barcode or a QR code, can be used as a technique for embedding data in the linking element 130. In some other example embodiments, the linking element 130 can be implemented with a device arranged to electronically store data, and the data can be read by applying electromagnetic communication between the device and a reader device (see the terminal device 140). An example of such a device can be, for example, an RFID tag.

[0043] The system also includes a control system 150. The control system 150 is configured to perform the method in a manner as described in the following description. The control system 150 can be understood as a computing device configured to process data and communicate with other entities in a manner as described herein. For example, the control system 150 can receive data from an individual's terminal device 140, but it is also possible to receive data from the elevator 110. The communication with the mentioned entities can be arranged by utilizing known communication technologies and communication networks. The control system 150 can reside in a data network, such as the Internet, or reside in a private network through a data network. Further, the control system 150 can be arranged to communicate with multiple communication services 170 hosted by one or more different organizations, for example. The communication services 170 can correspond to social media services, but they can also cover communication services that can be realized by utilizing the resources of at least one mobile communication network in a manner as described in the upcoming description. In general, a communication service refers to a communication arrangement in which the elevator 110 is a member of at least one communication group. The concept "communication group" can refer to a solution provided by the communication service 170 in question, in which users can communicate with messages delivered to everyone in the group. It may also refer to a solution in which members of a group are provided access to view messages written by members of the group and shown in a service accessible to members of the group, such as in a virtual message board. Other solutions for forming a communication group may also be used, as long as the elevator 110 may be included as a member of the group.

[0044] According to at least some example embodiments, a group in a plurality of communication services 170 may be established by a manufacturer of an elevator 110. A group established in a plurality of communication services 170 may be a specific elevator 110 in a group of elevators 110 forming an elevator system at the same location. Alternatively or additionally, a communication group may be established for an elevator system comprising a plurality of elevators 110. For the purpose of describing the present invention, the term elevator 110 is used to encompass all of these options, i.e., the term also encompasses an elevator system consisting of one or more elevators 110. In order to establish a group and / or associate an elevator 110 into a communication group, an identifier of the elevator 110 may be used. An identifier may refer to a communication address, such as an email address or a telephone number, by means of which the elevator system 110 may be communicatively reached. For example, depending on the communication service, an elevator 110 may be represented by a user name that describes that a member in the communication service 170 is the elevator 110. In other words, the elevator 110 is provided with the necessary contact details and other information in order to establish an account for the elevator 110 in a plurality of communication services 170.

[0045] As already mentioned, the communication service 170 enables communication at least between members of a communication group, where the elevator 110 is a member of the group, or has the role of an administrator of the group, or is a normal member of the group. Other profiles may also be provided to the elevators 110 in the group. Non-limiting examples of communication services 170 suitable for the purposes of the present invention may be, for example, social media services such as Facebook, Instagram, WeChat and Twitter, or corresponding communication services such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or even communication groups based on short messages.

[0046] Next, by referring to Figure 2 To describe various aspects of the present invention, Figure 2 A method according to an example embodiment of the invention is schematically illustrated. The method defines a mechanism for associating a user of a terminal device 140 with a communication service 170 providing information about the operating status of an elevator 110. Information about the operating status of an elevator 110 is to be understood in a broad manner and covers at least information that the entity managing the elevator 110 is willing to communicate to members of a communication group. Such information may, for example, relate to maintenance operations performed or to be performed on the elevator 110 in question, but also to general information relating to the operation of the elevator 110, such as statistics of the operation of the elevator 110. Depending on the user rights, individuals who are members of the communication group may also send messages in the communication group, for example to inform the entity managing the operation of the elevator 110 about the operation of the elevator 110, such as any detected faults etc.

[0047] The association of the user of the terminal device 140 is initiated by the control system 150 in response to the receipt 210 of a request from the terminal device 140. The request may carry data indicating the request for association with the communication service 170 associated with the elevator 110. The request may be generated, for example, by the user of the terminal device 140 through interaction with a linking element 130, for example arranged in the housing of the elevator 110 in any of the described ways. For example, the user of the terminal device 140 may read the linking element 130 with her / his terminal device 140, such as a code included in the linking element 130, and the reading of the data initiates the generation of a request to the control system 150. For example, the linking element 130 may store, for example, a network address leading to the control system 150, and the request may, for example, carry an identifier of the elevator 110 generating the request.

[0048] In response to receiving 210 the request, the control system 150 may be configured to read the data carried in the request. This may include at least that it identifies the elevator 110 from the data in the request. The identity of the elevator 110 may be embedded in or together with other data received in the request. According to an embodiment, the data in the request may define a network address describing a network service in which data related to the corresponding elevator 110 is maintained, and the network address defines the identity of the elevator 110. According to another embodiment, the control system 150 may receive only the identity of the elevator 110 in the request, and based on the identity determine the network service 155 in which the data related to the corresponding elevator 110 is maintained. As can be clearly seen from the above, the network address of the control system 150 itself can be derived from the data stored in the linking element, so that the user of the terminal device 140 can communicate with the control system 150.

[0049] In response to analyzing the data received in the request, the control system 150 may be configured to direct the terminal device 140 to access a network service 155 of the elevator 110 based on the data carried in the request. The network service 155 may refer to a dedicated digital service maintained for the elevator 110, which may correspond to a web page maintained by the control system 150 or another entity (e.g., a server) that is at least partially controllable by the control system 150. The operation of directing the terminal device 140 to access the network service 155 may refer to determining the network address of the network service 155 corresponding to the elevator 110 in question. The determination of the network address may be based on the identity of the elevator 110, for example, as described above. In response to the directing of the terminal device to access the network service 155, a communication session may be established so that the user can see the data output by the network service 155. Such a session may, for example, refer to a connection to the network service 155 maintained in the form of a web page, where a browser application is executed in the terminal device 140.

[0050] In addition to directing the terminal device 140 to access the network service 155 of the elevator 110, the control system 150 is also configured to provide a plurality of options for selecting at least one communication service 170 for providing information about the operating state of the elevator 110. In other words, the network service 155 can be instructed by the control system 150 to output a plurality of communication services 170 for selection so that the user can perform a selection of one or more communication services 170 through which the user is willing to receive information about the operating state of the elevator 110. The options for selection may correspond to providing all communication services 170 in which an account is created for the elevator 110 and a communication group is in place for selection. The control system 150 may be configured to maintain a piece of information defining the communication service 170 in a data store 180 accessible to the control system 150. In another embodiment, the control system 150 may be configured to select the communication service 170 to be output for selection by determining the communication service 170 that the user can access using the terminal device 140. This can be arranged by generating a query by the control system 150 to the terminal device 140 to receive information about the communication service 170 accessible to the user of the terminal device 140. The control system 150 may receive the communication services 170 available to the user of the terminal device 140 as a response to the query. This arrangement may require that the user has allowed the described information to be delivered to the control system 150, for example upon request. In response to receiving data defining the communication services 170 accessible to the user of the terminal device 140, the control system 150 may be configured to provide these communication services 170 to the corresponding user for selection by outputting these communication services 170 in the network service 155. In other words, the control system 150 is arranged to define a plurality of options for the communication services 170 to be selected based on the information about the communication services 170 accessible to the user of the terminal device 140. The method according to the latter embodiment has the advantage that it enables the data to be output to be adjusted to be user-specific, which improves the user experience.

[0051] Upon receiving one or more indications describing the selection of one or more communication services 170 via the network service 155, the control system 150 is arranged to associate 240 the user of the terminal device 140 to receive information about the operating state of the elevator via at least one selected communication service 170. The association 240 of the user of the terminal device 140 with at least one communication service 170 may refer to the control system 150 being configured to manage the communication groups in each selected communication service 170 such that the user is added as a member to the respective group. The management of the communication groups may for example be arranged such that the control system 150 generates a control signal comprising information about the user of the terminal device 140, such as contact details or any other piece of information required by the respective communication service 170, and sends it to the respective communication service 170, i.e. to the data center hosting the respective communication service 170. As a result, the user is added to the communication group of the elevator 110 in each communication service 170 through which the user has indicated his willingness to receive information about the operating state of the elevator 110.

[0052] According to an embodiment of the present invention, measures may be established to confirm that a user requesting to be associated with at least one communication service 170 of an elevator 110 resides at the location of the elevator 110. This enhances the management of users included in the communication group and enables individuals who have no relationship with the elevator 110 in question to be prevented from accessing the communication group. This method may be implemented by arranging a local communication network at the premises of the elevator 110, at least making the network coverage of the local network available at the location of one or more linking elements 130. The local network enables the user to access the local network with her / his terminal device 140, which supports the communication technology implemented by the local network. For example, the local network may be implemented, for example, using Bluetooth technology, Wi-Fi technology, ZigBee technology, etc. Therefore, the communication connection to the control system 150 for delivering the request associated with at least one communication service 170 may be arranged to be available only on the local network, and therefore, such an implementation may be used to improve the security of the system. Access to the local network may be arranged to be publicly available so as to enable users to generate requests through it.

[0053] Furthermore, according to an embodiment, the association of users of the terminal device 140 can be implemented so that different users are provided with different access rights levels to contribute in the communication group. For example, the access rights levels can be divided so that some users are only allowed to view the content in the communication group, some other users can input information (such as messages) to it, and some users can be assigned administrator rights (for example, the right to access all data in the service and modify the content). This example is non-limiting and further levels can be defined. The assignment of users to specific groups can be arranged so that the user is identified from the original request or by querying the identity from at least one of the communication services 170, and upon receiving information indicating the identity, the control system 150 can be configured, for example, to perform a query on a data storage 180 storing data defining the access rights levels of various users. Such a data storage 180 can be maintained, for example, by a person responsible for building management (e.g., a landlord or the like) and / or the manufacturer of the elevator 110. For example, a data structure can define the residents of the building where the elevator 110 resides, and for them, for example, access rights levels that allow input of information in the communication group can be assigned. In addition, some users may be defined to the administrator and their access rights levels defined accordingly. Users that are not identifiable from the defined user groups may be provided with access rights levels that allow viewing of content in the communication group, but do not allow any other way to contribute to the communication group. Information about the access rights level of each user added or to be added in the corresponding communication group in at least one communication service 170 is delivered to the corresponding at least one communication service 170 so that the corresponding access rights level is set in the service. The delivery of information about the access rights level may be delivered in a signal that causes the association of the user of the terminal device 140 to access the information about the operating state of the elevator 110, or it may be delivered in response to the association of the user of the terminal device 140 in the communication group.

[0054] Another aspect associated with maintaining a data store defining access rights levels for different users is that it may be arranged to allow a user to query a certain level of access rights levels, for example via a web form. The query may require identification of the user, for example by applying a predefined authentication service, such as an authentication service based on authentication data granted by a bank, and the identification may result in the creation of a user account or user profile, which defines the access rights levels for further use, as described.

[0055] Figure 3 An example of such an apparatus that may be configured to implement the operation of the control system 150 is schematically shown in FIG. The control system 150 may be configured to perform the method according to the present invention, as described by way of example in the foregoing description. Thus, Figure 3The device can be configured to perform an association of a user of the terminal device 140 with at least one communication service 170 providing information about the operating state of the elevator 110. For the sake of clarity, it is worth mentioning that Figure 3 The block diagrams depict some of the physical components that may be used to implement the functionality of the apparatus. Figure 3 The device includes a processor 310 and a memory 320. The memory 320 can store data, such as the data fragments described, but can also store computer program codes 325 that cause association in the described manner. The device can also include a communication interface 330, such as a wireless communication interface or a communication interface for wired communication, or both, to communicate with the other entities described. Therefore, the communication interface 330 can include one or more modems, antennas, and any other hardware and software for enabling, for example, to perform communication under the control of the processor 310. In addition, an I / O (input / output) component can be arranged together with a part of the processor 310 and the computer program code 325 to provide a user interface for receiving input from a user (such as from a technician) and / or providing an output to the user of the device when necessary. In particular, the user I / O component can include a user input device, such as one or more keys or buttons, a keyboard, a touch screen or a touch pad, etc. The user I / O component can include an output device, such as a speaker, a display, or a touch screen. The components of the device can be connected to each other via a data bus for communication, and the data bus realizes the transmission of data and control information between the components.

[0056] The memory 320 and at least a portion of the computer program code 325 stored therein may also be arranged to, together with the processor 310, cause the apparatus to perform at least a portion of the method as described herein. The processor 310 may be configured to read from and write to the memory 320. Although the processor 310 is depicted as a respective single component, it may be implemented as a respective one or more separate processing components. Similarly, although the memory 320 is depicted as a respective single component, it may be implemented as a respective one or more separate components, some or all of which may be integrated / removable and / or may provide permanent / semi-permanent / dynamic / cached storage.

[0057] The computer program code 325 may include computer executable instructions that, when loaded into the processor 310 of the corresponding control system 150, implement functions corresponding to the steps implemented in the method. As an example, the computer program code 325 may include a computer program consisting of one or more sequences of one or more instructions. The processor 310 is capable of loading and executing the computer program by reading one or more sequences of one or more instructions included therein from the memory 320. The one or more sequences of one or more instructions may be configured to cause an apparatus such as a computer to perform the described method when executed by the processor 310. Therefore, the apparatus may include at least one processor 310 and at least one memory 320, the at least one memory 320 including computer program code 325 for one or more programs, the at least one memory 320 and the computer program code 325 configured to, together with the at least one processor 310, cause the apparatus implementing the control system 150 to perform the method.

[0058] Computer program code 325 may be provided, for example a computer program product including at least one computer readable non-transitory medium having computer program code 325 stored thereon, which when executed by processor 310 causes the apparatus to perform the method. The computer readable non-transitory medium may include a memory device or a recording medium, such as a CD-ROM, DVD, Blu-ray disc, or another article of manufacture tangibly embodying the computer program. As another example, the computer program may be provided as a signal configured to reliably transmit the computer program.

[0059] Furthermore, the computer program code 325 may include proprietary applications, such as computer program code for causing the execution of the method in the manner as described in the description herein.

[0060] Any programming functions mentioned may also be performed in firmware or hardware adapted or programmed to perform the necessary tasks.

[0061] For the sake of completeness, it is worth mentioning that the entity executing the method in the role of control system 150 can also be implemented by many devices, such as Figure 3 The devices schematically shown in the figure are used as a distributed computing environment corresponding to a control system. For example, one of the devices can be communicatively connected to other devices and, for example, share data of the method to enable another device to perform at least one other part of the method. As a result, the method performed in the distributed computing environment generates control signals indicating the allocation of responsibilities as described.

[0062] The invention as described herein provides improvements in the operation of an elevator system in the sense that it enables the transfer of information in a communication group that is easily joined.

[0063] The specific examples provided in the description given above should not be construed as limiting the applicability and / or interpretation of the appended claims. The lists and groups of examples provided in the description given above are not exhaustive unless expressly stated otherwise.
