Abstract

The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for the dynamic fractionation of a dispersed phase in a liquid. The apparatus comprises a fractionation channel and from first to third injection ports. A first and a second limiting liquid are injected through the first and second injection ports, respectively. An eluent liquid for transporting the dispersed phase is injected into the channel through a third injection port, which is arranged between the first and second injection ports. An end portion of the channel comprises from first to third terminal portions which are respectively arranged in correspondence with the first to third injection ports and which have such a geometry that the first and second limiting liquid respectively have a first and a second predetermined flow rate and the eluent liquid has a third predetermined flow rate, which is greater than the first and second predetermined flow rates.
