Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a busbar alligator clip, i.e. a connection device for contacting a busbar, usually a copper bar or a bar made of an otherwise suitable electrically conductive material, in particular with a rectangular or square cross-section. The busbar alligator clip creates an electrically conductive contact with the respective busbar. The busbar alligator clip makes it possible to tap into the potential provided via the busbar, for example in a switch cabinet or the like, and the potential thus centrally supplied can be led via the busbar alligator clip to other locations in the switch cabinet, switch box, etc., for example to supply electrical devices located there, e.g. fuse holders, circuit breakers, motor protection switches, contactors, sockets for the use of electrical devices when the power is switched off after distribution from the busbar, etc.to make the respective potential available.
[0002] Terminals for connecting an electrical conductor to a busbar are known per se. Examples include DE 19 92 565 U, DE 102 53 858 A1, and DE 10 2006 043 276 A1. DE 19 92 565 U teaches a terminal for connecting electrical round conductors to busbars with a rectangular cross-section in the shape of a U enclosing the busbar. In one leg is a pressure screw that acts on the busbar and can press the other leg against the underside of the busbar. A yoke part of the U has a hole for a stripped conductor. This must be pushed into the area between the underside of the busbar and the aforementioned other leg so that it is clamped between the leg and the busbar when the pressure screw is tightened.
[0003] The disadvantage of DE 19 92 565 U and DE 10 2006 043 276 A1 is that none of the current-carrying parts, e.g. in DE 10 2006 043 276 A1 the frame with which the terminal grips the busbar and the eccentric lever with which the electrical conductor is fixed to the busbar, are protected against contact. This does not rule out the possibility of personal injury, or additional measures must be taken, such as a cover attached separately in the area of the busbar, to reduce the risk to operating personnel. The solution proposed in DE 86 29 688 U1 is associated with similar disadvantages. Locking the terminal to the busbar with a spring element, as proposed in DE 102 53 858 A1, must be regarded as having only limited long-term electrical and mechanical strength.
[0004] Accordingly, one object of the invention is to provide a further embodiment for a busbar alligator clip. A specific object of the invention is to provide such a busbar alligator clip that can be permanently and securely electrically and mechanically fixed in the same configuration to busbars even with different geometries, for example, busbars with different thicknesses and widths.
[0005] This object is achieved according to the invention with a busbar alligator clip having the features of claim 1. For this purpose, in a busbar alligator clip with a clamping body arranged in a housing and a hook-shaped extension of the clamping body and means for electrically conductive contact with a busbar, wherein the busbar alligator clip can be fixed to the busbar by means of a clamping device comprising the extension in its function as a stop, it is provided that the clamping body is a solid component with several conductor insertion bores formed therein and a clamping screw threaded bore, that the clamping device comprises at least one clamping screw guided in the clamping screw threaded bore, and that the busbar alligator clip can be fixed to the busbar with the clamping screw in that the busbar is clamped by the clamping screw and the part of the extension acting as a stop.In addition, the busbar alligator clip has a two-part housing with a housing base part and a housing upper part. The housing base part has an opening to accommodate the housing upper part. The clamping body, including its hook-shaped extension, can be inserted into the housing base part through the opening to accommodate the housing upper part. A housing upper part combined with the housing base part then fixes the clamping body in the housing. With regard to the combination of the housing upper part with the housing base part, it can be provided, for example, that the housing upper part can be releasably snapped into the housing base part. The advantage of this design is its simple manufacturing conditions. Only two housing parts are required: the housing base part and the housing upper part.By matching the opening in the housing base and the geometry of the clamping body, the clamping body can be inserted through the opening in the housing base, requiring only a single manufacturing step. The clamping body can then be secured in the housing base by combining the upper housing section with the housing base. This, too, is just an additional manufacturing step. Furthermore, all manufacturing steps can be easily automated.
[0006] The advantage of the invention is that the busbar alligator clip can be permanently secured to the respective busbar, both electrically and mechanically. Because the clamping body, with its hook-shaped extension, is a solid component, the clamping screw can be used to secure the busbar alligator clip to the respective busbar, similar to a screw clamp or similar device. The fixation is therefore extremely mechanically resilient and is also suitable, for example, for environments in which the busbar alligator clip is exposed to particular mechanical stresses, such as vibrations, which often occur during operation of electrical devices.Because the clamping body with its hook-shaped extension is designed as a solid component, a large-area contact is achieved, at least between the part of the extension that acts as a stop for the clamping device, and the busbar. Such a large-area mechanical contact also results in secure electrical contact, with the entire surface of the part of the extension that is in contact with the busbar, as well as the entire underside of the clamping screw, serving as contact points and thus as points for electrical charge transfer.
[0007] Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject matter of the subclaims. References used therein indicate the further development of the subject matter of the main claim through the features of the respective subclaim; they are not to be understood as a waiver of independent, objective protection for the feature combinations of the referenced subclaims. Furthermore, with regard to the interpretation of the claims, if a feature is further specified in a subordinate claim, it must be assumed that no such limitation is present in the respective preceding claims.
[0008] Since the subject-matter of the subclaims may constitute separate and independent inventions in view of the prior art at the priority date, the applicant reserves the right to make them the subject-matter of independent claims or declarations of division. They may also contain independent inventions that have a design independent of the subject-matter of the preceding subclaims.
[0009] If the hook-shaped extension is one-piece in the area of its hook-shaped contour and is also connected in one piece to the clamping body, the clamping body can be manufactured in one operation and the extension is mechanically connected to the clamping body sufficiently firmly to be able to absorb the forces occurring between the clamping screw and the extension when clamping a busbar.
[0010] If the clamping device for securing the busbar alligator clip to the busbar is independent of one or more actuating elements for securing electrical conductors in a conductor entry hole, conductors can be connected to or detached from the busbar alligator clip without undoing the fixation of the busbar alligator clip to the busbar and vice versa. A solution for fixing the busbar alligator clip to the busbar can be considered, for example, if its position on the busbar is to be changed, in order to attach additional busbar alligator clips to the busbar. Even in such a situation, it is advantageous if any electrical conductors already connected to the busbar alligator clip do not have to be undone and reconnected later.
[0011] For embodiments of the busbar alligator clip, it is provided that a recess determined by the geometry of the hook-shaped extension between the part of the extension that functions as a stop and an underside of the other clamping body, especially in the area of the clamping screw thread, allows a combination of the busbar alligator clip with busbars of different thicknesses and widths. The maximum thickness of busbars to which a busbar alligator clip of the type described here and below can be fixed is a thickness corresponding to a clear distance between the part of the extension that functions as a stop and an opposite underside of the other clamping body, i.e., specifically the area with the clamping screw thread. The busbar alligator clip can be combined with busbars of a smaller thickness by tightening the clamping screw in the thread formed in the clamping screw threaded hole until it makes contact with the top side of the busbar. The minimum thickness of a busbar to which a busbar alligator clip of the type described here and below can be fixed is therefore a thickness resulting from a clear width of the type described above less a free length of the thread of the clamping screw. Theoretically, the free thread of the clamping screw reaches up to the part of the extension acting as a stop, even without a busbar inserted into the recess formed by the extension, so that even very thin busbars can be reliably contacted. In practice, however, busbars have a minimum thickness determined by static considerations, which can be achieved even without the busbar, e.g.to bend or similar, allows one or more busbar clamps to be secured. Based on this premise, the busbar clamp can be securely connected to busbars of any thickness below the maximum thickness described above.
[0012] If the housing also encloses the hook-shaped extension, apart from the recess for combining with the busbar, the greatest possible protection against contact with the live parts is provided. Furthermore, the extension and the housing section formed there can be incorporated into the overall design of the busbar alligator clip, resulting in an attractive appearance. Contact protection can be further improved if the busbar is equipped with covers, e.g., cover caps, which are combined with the busbar adjacent to the busbar alligator clip, e.g., by sliding or snapping them on.
[0013] If the busbar alligator clip's housing covers a surface of the busbar when attached to a busbar, effective contact protection is also achieved. Operating personnel who, for example, slip with a screwdriver while connecting or disconnecting electrical conductors from a busbar alligator clip cannot come into contact with the area of the busbar surface covered by the housing of the busbar alligator clip, thus reducing the risk to operating personnel. Furthermore, if the busbars are equipped with appropriate cover caps, the power distribution can be designed to be virtually fingertip-safe.
[0014] If the busbar alligator clip has at least two conductor entry holes on at least one connection side, and the at least two conductor entry holes are arranged at different levels and offset in height, this results in favorable conditions regarding the required overall width of the busbar alligator clip. If the conductor entry holes are arranged next to each other on the same level, with the same cross-section of the conductor entry holes, a larger width of the clamping body is necessarily required, and thus a larger width of the busbar alligator clip overall, including the housing surrounding the clamping body. With the height-staggered arrangement of the conductor entry holes, the overall width of the clamping body can be reduced while maintaining important minimum distances between the conductor entry holes and the side surfaces of the clamping body, resulting in a favorable, narrow overall width of the busbar alligator clip.
[0015] If the busbar alligator clip has two vertically offset connection points and conductor entry holes formed in the clamp body as connection points on each connection side, this results in improved wiring options for the busbar alligator clip. Users of the busbar alligator clip can select one of the two connection sides and the conductor entry holes there depending on the available cable length and the accessibility of the respective conductor entry hole. If, in addition, one of the two conductor entry holes formed on each connection side has a different cross-section than the other adjacent conductor entry hole on the same connection side, even conductors with different cross-sections can be easily connected to the busbar alligator clip.
[0016] In general, the busbar alligator clip functions as a busbar alligator and distribution terminal with at least two connection points / conductor entry holes on at least one connection side and, if necessary, at least two connection points / conductor entry holes on each connection side. Therefore, with just one busbar alligator clip, a potential tapped from the busbar can be supplied to several other devices or connection points.
[0017] If the clamping screw for securing the busbar alligator clip to the busbar is set back from the actuating elements provided in the upper part of the housing for securing electrical conductors to the busbar alligator clip, this creates a simple way for operating personnel to identify the clamping screws / actuating elements intended for securing the busbar alligator clip to the busbar on the one hand and for contacting electrical conductors in a conductor entry hole on the other. This largely eliminates operating errors, and operating personnel will intuitively use the clamping screws / actuating elements on the top of the busbar alligator clip correctly.
[0018] An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing. Corresponding objects or elements are provided with the same reference numerals in all figures.
[0019] The or each embodiment is not to be understood as a limitation of the invention. Rather, numerous variations and modifications are possible within the scope of the present disclosure, in particular those variants that are apparent to a person skilled in the art with regard to solving the problem, for example, through the combination or modification of individual features or elements described in the general or specific description, as well as in the claims and / or the drawings, and that, through combinable features, lead to a new subject matter or to new method steps or method step sequences, even if they relate, for example, to manufacturing processes.

[0022] Fig. 2 shows a sectional view of the embodiment of the busbar alligator clip 10 according to Fig. 1, wherein the busbar alligator clip 10 is fixed to a busbar 12.
[0023] The further description will initially be made with simultaneous reference to both the representation in Fig. 1 as well as the representation in Fig. 2 continued.
[0024] The busbar alligator clip 10 has a clamping body 16 in a housing 14 (only in Fig. 2). The clamping body 16 comprises a hook-shaped extension 18. The busbar alligator clip 10 can be fixed to the busbar 12 by means of a clamping device which encompasses the extension 18 in its function as a stop. This clamping device further comprises at least one clamping screw 22 guided in a clamping screw bore 20. The clamping body 18 is a solid component, e.g. a brass block, an aluminum block or generally a block made of an electrically conductive metal. The clamping screw bore 20 is formed in the clamping body 16. Furthermore, at least one conductor insertion bore 24 is formed in the clamping body 16. In the embodiment in Fig. 2, the busbar alligator clip 10 has a first and a second connection side 26, 28, and at least one conductor insertion hole 24 is provided on each connection side 26, 28. The hook-shaped extension 18 is designed as a single piece and is connected integrally to the clamping body 16. The clamping body 16, with its hook-shaped extension 18, thus forms a shaped metal block. The busbar alligator clip 10 can be fixed to the busbar 12 by means of the clamping screw 22, in that the busbar 12 is clamped by the clamping screw 22 and the part of the extension 18 that acts as a stop. This situation is illustrated in Fig. 2. The busbar 12 is inserted into a recess 30 formed by the clamping body 16 and its hook-shaped extension 18, and is clamped there with the clamping screw 22 against the hook-shaped extension 18 of the clamping body 16, as in a screw clamp. By fixing the busbar alligator clip 10 to the busbar 12, a mechanically extremely strong and resilient contact is established between the busbar alligator clip 10 and the busbar 12. At the same time, however, this fixing also creates an electrically extremely resilient and permanent contact between the busbar alligator clip 10 and the clamping body 16. Because the clamping screw 22 is guided in the clamping screw threaded bore 20 of the clamping body 16, an electrically conductive contact is created between the clamping body 16 and the clamping screw 22 when the clamping screw 22 is electrically conductive. As soon as the underside of the clamping screw 22 comes into mechanical contact with the busbar 12, an electrically conductive contact is also established between the clamping screw 22 and the busbar 12. This also establishes an electrically conductive contact with the clamping body 16 via the clamping screw 22. Because the clamping screw 22 clamps the busbar 12 between the clamping screw 22 and the part of the extension 18 that acts as a stop when the busbar alligator clip 10 is fixed to the busbar 12, an electrically conductive contact is also established between the busbar 12 and the extension 18 of the clamping body 16. Because the extension 18 is connected to the clamping body 16, an electrically conductive contact is also established via the extension 18.If the extension 18 - as shown here - is connected in one piece with the clamping body 16, each electrically conductive contact of the busbar 12 with the extension 18 also directly represents an electrically conductive connection between the busbar 12 and the clamping body 16 as a whole. By fixing the busbar alligator clip 10 to the busbar 12 by clamping the busbar 12 using the clamping screw 22 and the part of the extension 18 that acts as a stop, there is therefore a large-area electrically conductive contact between different surface sections of the busbar 12 and at least one surface section of the clamping body 16 in the area of the hook-shaped extension 18 and at least one surface section of the clamping screw 22, which is itself electrically conductively connected to the clamping body 16 due to its guidance in the clamping screw threaded bore 20 formed in the clamping body 16.
[0025] In the figures, especially Fig. In the configuration of an embodiment of a busbar alligator clip 10 according to the invention, shown in Figure 2, for each conductor insertion bore 24 formed in the clamping body 16, a clamping screw is shown as an actuating element 32 for securing electrical conductors (not shown) inserted into the conductor insertion bore 24. In principle, any other actuating element can be considered as an alternative to a clamping screw as an actuating element 32. With the clamping screw 22 for securing the busbar alligator clip 10 to the respective busbar 12 on the one hand and a clamping screw as an actuating element 32 for securing electrical conductors in a conductor insertion bore 24 on the other hand, the clamping device for securing the busbar alligator clip 10 to the busbar 12 is independent of such actuating elements 32 for securing electrical conductors in a conductor insertion bore 24.The busbar alligator clip 10 can thus be temporarily detached from the busbar 12, for example, in order to change a position of the busbar alligator clip 10 on the busbar 12, without any electrical conductors that may already be connected to the busbar alligator clip 10 having to be detached as well.
[0026] Due to the geometry of the hook-shaped extension 18 and the resulting width of the recess 30, a combination of the busbar alligator clip 10 with busbars 12 of different thickness and width is possible. This is shown by way of example in the illustration in Fig. 3.
[0027] Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the busbar alligator clip 10 as already shown in Fig. 2, so that a repetition of all reference numbers is not necessary. Fig. The situation shown in Figure 2 is Fig. 3 the busbar clamp 10 is fixed to a busbar 12 with an almost square cross-section. In any case, a thickness of the Fig. 3 shown busbar 12 is significantly larger than the thickness of the Fig. 2. The same busbar alligator clip 10 can thus be fixed to busbars 12 with different thicknesses and widths.
[0028] The housing 14 of the busbar alligator clip 10 also encloses the hook-shaped extension 18, except for an area that forms the recess 30 for combining with the busbar 12. The housing 14 is in two parts and consists of a housing base part 34 and a housing top part 36.
[0029] Fig. 4a shows, in a sectional view, first the housing base part 34, then the clamping body 16 with its hook-shaped extension 18, and above it the housing upper part 36, each aligned one above the other. The view illustrates that the housing base part 34 has an opening for receiving the housing upper part 36 and that the clamping body 16, together with its hook-shaped extension 18, can be inserted into the housing base part 34 through the opening for receiving the housing upper part 36. When the housing base part 34 is combined with the housing upper part 36, that is, when the opening in the housing base part 34 is closed with the housing upper part 36, the clamping body 16 is fixed in the housing 14. Fig. Figure 4b shows the same situation without the cross-section. Here, for example, it can be seen that the clamping body 18 has a stepped profile on its upper side, thus allowing the arrangement of the two conductor entry holes 24 at different heights with minimal material expenditure. On its underside, however, the clamping body 18 is flat, so that the clamping screw threaded hole 20 for receiving the clamping screw 22 is located as far as possible in a solid section of the clamping body 18 in order to absorb the forces necessary for the secure mechanical fixation of the busbar alligator clip 10 to a busbar 12.
[0030] A detachable connection is considered for the combination of the housing base part 34 and the housing upper part 36. The means for detachably securing the housing upper part 36 in the housing base part 34 are a locking hook 38 formed on the housing upper part 36 and a corresponding locking hook receptacle 40 formed in the housing base part 34 for receiving the respective locking hook 38.
[0031] Especially the representations in Fig. 4a and Fig. 4b and the sectional views according to Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 also shows that a guide device is formed in the upper housing part 36 for each actuating element 32 shown there as a clamping screw, namely one of the four hollow cylindrical sections shown for receiving and guiding the respective clamping screw. Each clamping screw is accessible from an outside of the housing 14 via these guide devices. At least individual guide devices or each guide device also includes means for captively holding the respective clamping screw. If the or each clamping screw is held captive in the housing 14, in this case in the upper housing section 36, and its guide device, in particular without mechanically firm contact with the clamping body 18, the busbar alligator clip 10 is easier to operate, insofar as it is ensured that the or each guide device actually has a clamping screw, so that a conductor inserted into the conductor insertion hole 24 of the clamping body 18 can be fixed with the clamping screw. The captive holder in the guide device also has the advantage of simplifying the production of the busbar alligator clip 10. With a captive holder of a clamping screw in the guide device, the appropriate positioning of the or each clamping screw in the respective guide device is sufficient, whereas previously, for example,It was necessary to at least partially screw clamping screws into a thread formed in the clamping body. As a means of captively holding the respective clamping screw, the guide device has a projection on its inner surface in an upper section that reduces the effective opening width of the guide device. This secures the clamping screw against falling out. The respective clamping screw can be inserted into the guide device with slight pressure, resulting in reversible deformation of the projection.
[0032] At its lower end facing the clamping body, the guide device has a constriction as a further means for captively holding the clamping screw. Normally, a clamping screw is designed like a machine screw with a cylindrical threaded rod with a first cross-section and a molded-on, likewise cylindrical head with a larger, second cross-section. The opening width of the guide device must allow the clamping screw to be accommodated at its greatest radial extent. The constriction, on the other hand, is effective for holding the clamping screw at its threaded rod section, i.e. in the area of its smallest radial extent. In addition, the constriction in particular adjusts the threaded rod section of a clamping screw over a thread or the like formed in the clamping body. The constriction therefore holds at least one head of each clamping screw releasably in the guide device. In this respect, the constriction prevents the clamping screw from falling out of the guide device on the side opposite the side with the projection.
[0033] Fig. 5 shows a busbar alligator clip 10 fixed to a busbar 12. The representation of the busbar alligator clip 10 in Fig. 5 shows, in comparison to the representation of the busbar alligator clip 10 in Fig. 1 a different view, but the one in the Fig. 1 and Fig. The busbar alligator clip 10 shown in Figure 5 is an identical device, so that a repetition of all reference numbers in the illustration is omitted and reference can be made to the description in the preceding figures. Based on the illustration in Fig. 5, however, it can be seen that the busbar alligator clip 10 with its housing 14, when attached to a busbar 12, covers part of a surface of the busbar 12. Specifically, the conductor entry holes 24 and collars formed in front of these in the housing 14 are located - depending on the viewing direction and the orientation of the busbar 12 - in front of or behind, above or below or next to the respective busbar 12, so that when inserting electrical conductors into one of the conductor entry holes 24 when wiring the busbar alligator clip 10, unintentional and dangerous contact with the busbar 12 can be avoided. The same applies if the actuating elements 32 ( Fig. 2) are operated with, for example, a screwdriver, causing the operator to slip. If the slipping occurs in the direction of the connection sides 26, 28, contact of the screwdriver with the busbar 12 and thus a risk to persons is ruled out if - as shown - the busbar alligator clip 10, when attached to the busbar 12, covers part of a surface of the busbar 12 with its housing 14.
[0034] Fig. Figure 6 shows the busbar alligator clip 10 in a side view. This shows a top view of one of the connection sides 26, 28, namely the second connection side 28. It can be seen that the busbar alligator clip 10 has two conductor entry holes 24 that are arranged at different heights and offset in different planes. The vertical offset of the conductor entry holes 24 allows for a smaller overall width of the busbar alligator clip 10 than if the conductor entry holes 24 had the same cross-section and were arranged side by side in the same plane.
[0035] Fig. 7 finally shows the busbar alligator clip 10 in a plan view with the housing upper part 36 mounted in the housing base part 34. The housing upper part 36 has four openings through which the actuating elements 32 ( Fig. 2) is possible. In the middle between these four openings there is a central opening through which the clamping screw 22 ( Fig. 2) for fixing the busbar alligator clip 10 to a busbar 12. The openings for access to the actuating elements 32 are also offset from one another, so that with a small overall width of the clamping body 16 and thus a small overall width of the busbar alligator clip 10, for example, clamping screws with a sufficiently large cross-section can be used as the actuating element 32 without having to increase the overall width of the clamping body 16. The clamping screw 22 for fixing the busbar alligator clip 10 to the busbar 12 can be actuated via the central opening independently of the actuating elements 32 for fixing electrical conductors in one of the conductor entry holes 24.
[0036] Individual, prominent aspects of the description submitted here can thus be briefly summarized as follows: A busbar alligator clip 10 is specified with a clamping body 16 arranged in a housing 14, as well as a hook-shaped extension 18 of the clamping body 16 and means 18, 22 for electrically conductive contact with a busbar 12, wherein the busbar alligator clip 10 can be fixed to the busbar 12 by means of a clamping device comprising the extension 18 in its function as a stop, which is characterized in particular by the fact that the clamping body 16 is a solid component with normally several, but at least one, conductor insertion bore 24 formed therein and a clamping screw threaded bore 20, that the clamping device comprises at least one clamping screw 22 guided in the clamping screw threaded bore 20, and that the busbar alligator clip 10 can be fixed to the busbar 12 by means of the clamping screw 22,by clamping the busbar 12 by means of the clamping screw 22 and the part of the extension 18 acting as a stop in the manner of a screw clamp.
