Description

[0001] The invention relates to a holder for a sensor according to the preamble of claim 1.

[0002] When using optical sensors in industrial systems or machines, it is necessary to mount the sensors precisely where an object needs to be reliably detected. It is usually not possible to simply attach the sensor to an existing machine part. Therefore, so-called rod mounting systems are often used. Here, a round profile rod, for example, with a standardized diameter of approximately 12 mm, is mounted to a machine part using a clamping element. Another clamping element is attached to the other end of the round profile rod, and a mounting plate is attached to this clamping element, which is firmly connected to the sensor housing by a screw connection.

[0003] By connecting the two clamping elements to the round profile rod and the mounting plate, such a rod mounting system is capable of individually aligning the sensor to the correct position and orientation. This offers a wide range of degrees of freedom, some of which can even be adjusted multiple times.

[0004] However, the diverse adjustment and alignment options of the rod support system result in considerable technical and time-consuming effort during assembly and alignment of the sensor. This is due, on the one hand, to the large number of individual parts, namely at least the round profile rods, two single- or multi-part clamping elements, and four or more bolts, nuts, and washers for clamping the clamping elements, which must be assembled into the described rod support system using various tools. On the other hand, every single adjustment point of the rod support system must be aligned to bring the sensor into the desired position and orientation. The assembly and alignment effort becomes enormous, especially when a large number of sensors are to be mounted. But replacing a sensor is also complex, because at least two screw connections per sensor have to be loosened and then closed again with the new sensor, which usually requires at least some adjustment of the alignment afterwards.

[0005] Due to a lack of alternatives, the previously described rod mounting systems are often used even when the system to which the sensor is to be mounted does not impose any special requirements regarding the alignment of the sensor or the sensor mount. This is the case, for example, when the sensor only needs to be aligned parallel or at an angle of 90° to the axes of the relevant system component.

[0006] A clamping device for mounting sensors is known from DE 199 61 827 A1. It is used in the conventional rod-holding systems described above and therefore cannot reduce the number of individual parts or the assembly effort.

[0007] DE 10 2012 023 194 A1 discloses an adjusting device for adjusting and fastening a part, in particular a sensor, a light barrier or another electronic or electrical device, with at least two clamping jaws which are spaced apart from one another on one side by a gap and together form a rotary receptacle for an axle on the inside, wherein the at least two clamping jaws are prestressed towards one another by a spring element which connects the at least two clamping jaws to one another on their side facing away from the gap.

[0008] DE 20 2005 001 879 U1 discloses a holding / connecting device for fixing a first object and a second object relative to each other, in particular for fixing a sensor or sensor holder, comprising a clamping device with a first clamping jaw, a second clamping jaw and a third clamping jaw, wherein the first object can be clamped between the first clamping jaw and the second clamping jaw and the second object can be clamped between the second clamping jaw and the third clamping jaw.

[0009] US 3 581 354 A discloses an instrument clamp for attaching an instrument having a projecting post.

[0010] DE 699 03 094 T2 discloses a clamping device for connecting a first and a second elongated element by clamping with the aid of a cam locking mechanism.

[0011] Therefore, the object of the invention is to simplify the installation and alignment of a sensor. The sensor should be mountable on a mounting body. Furthermore, the sensor should be mountable, if possible, without tools. Furthermore, the sensor should be adjustable in at least two independent directions. Finally, the sensor should be securely held and, if necessary, protected from damage.

[0012] The object is achieved with a holder for a sensor for fastening the sensor to a mounting body, wherein the sensor is connected to a connecting element, wherein a clamping holder is provided which engages around the mounting body, wherein the clamping holder is connected to the connecting element and the clamping holder is pressed against the mounting body by the connecting element and at the same time the sensor is fastened by the connecting element, wherein a clamping force is different between the clamping holder and the sensor, as well as between the clamping holder and the mounting body, wherein the mounting body is a round rod or a mounting plate and the clamping holder has an insert for receiving the rod or the mounting plate.

[0013] According to the invention, only a single connecting element is required to attach the sensor to a mounting body via the holder. The sensor is secured by actuating the connecting element, either directly by hand or with a tool, such as a screwdriver.

[0014] The invention has the advantage that, in addition to the simultaneous fastening of the sensor to the clamp holder and the fastening of the clamp holder to the mounting body, the tightening force or clamping force on the sensor is limited, thereby allowing a higher clamping force to be achieved on the mounting body. According to the invention, the clamping force between the clamp holder and the sensor is smaller than the clamping force between the clamp holder and the mounting body.

[0015] In a further development of the invention, the mounting body is a rod, in particular a round rod, or a mounting plate, in particular a sheet metal. The clamp holder allows the holder to be rotated 360° around the rod and locked at any desired angle. The sensor itself can be rotated 360° around the connecting element and thus fixed at any desired angle around the connecting element. If the rod and the connecting element are arranged orthogonally to one another, the sensor can be aligned perpendicular to one another in two axes. In the case of a mounting plate, in particular a sheet metal, the clamp holder allows the holder to be arranged in almost any direction parallel to a mounting surface of the mounting plate and locked at almost any desired angle.

[0016] In a further development of the invention, the clamp holder has at least one insert for receiving the rod or the mounting plate. The insert allows the clamp holder to be easily adapted to various mounting options. The insert has, for example, pins that engage in the clamp holder to secure the insert. The insert has a surface corresponding to the surface of the rod or the mounting plate. In the case of the rod, this is a semicircular, inwardly curved surface. In the case of the mounting plate, the insert has, for example, a flat, non-slip surface, such as a roughened surface.

[0017] According to a particular embodiment, the sensor has at least one opening, for example in the form of a bore, an elongated hole or a punched hole, which can be round or square, for receiving a connecting element.

[0018] This means that no additional fastening means need to be provided for the sensor itself, as the sensor itself accommodates the connecting element.

[0019] In a further development of the invention, the clamp holder has an opening, for example in the form of a bore, a slot, or a punched hole, which can be round or square, for accommodating the connecting element. This eliminates the need for any additional fastening means for the clamp holder, since the clamp holder itself accommodates the connecting element.

[0020] According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the clamp holder has at least one clamping jaw that encompasses the mounting body. The clamping jaw has an opening, for example in the form of a bore, for receiving the connecting element. The clamping jaw is pressed against the mounting body by the connecting element, and the sensor is simultaneously secured by the connecting element. The clamping jaws allow the sensor to either be pushed onto the mounting body or placed directly on the side of the mounting body. The clamping jaws enable a stable clamping to the mounting body.

[0021] In a further development of the invention, the connecting element has at least one sensor bolt, a bolt plate, and a bolt-shaped fastening means. The sensor bolts are guided, for example, through the sensor housing, with the sensor being fastened to the sensor bolts. The sensor bolts are fastened in the bolt plate. Furthermore, the bolt plate has a through-hole approximately in the center of the bolt plate for a bolt-shaped fastening means, which is part of the connecting element. The longitudinal axes of the sensor bolts and the fastening means differ. The further development according to the invention makes it possible to fasten the sensor to a central axis using the bolt-shaped fastening means and to align the sensor around a central axis, even though the sensor is possibly fixed at the edge regions by the sensor bolts.

[0022] In a further development, a holding plate is arranged between the sensor and the clamp holder. The holding plate serves as a counter-bearing for the movable bolts and the sensor. The holding plate is, for example, U-shaped, so that two one-sided support arms are formed, which are pressed against the clamp holder. Furthermore, the holding plate can also be L-shaped with an additional web, so that a U-shaped section is formed. The holding plate holds the sensor and improves the frictional connection to the clamp holder. The bolt plate and the bolt-shaped fastening means are arranged between the support surfaces of the holding plate.

[0023] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the clamp holder has a circular support surface for the retaining plate. The U-shaped sections of the retaining plate rest on the circular support surface. The retaining plate can be rotated 360° along the axis of the bolt-shaped fastening means, allowing the sensor to be rotated and adjusted relative to the clamp holder by 360° along the axis of the bolt-shaped fastening means.

[0024] In a further development, the sensor is attached to the sensor bolt by a locking plate. The sensor is fixed between the locking plate and the retaining plate. The locking plate can enclose the sensor like a second housing to protect it from damage. For example, the locking plate is made of steel to protect the sensor from collisions with transport objects.

[0025] In one embodiment, the connecting element or the bolt-shaped fastening means of the connecting element is a screw. This makes the connecting element simple. The thread of the screw and a mating thread in the clamp holder, the bolt plate, or a fastening nut create a force-locking connection between the sensor, the clamp holder, and the mounting body.

[0026] In a further development of the invention, the connecting element comprises a quick-release fastener or a fastening nut. The quick-release fastener advantageously allows the connecting element to be fastened manually without the need for tools. The quick-release fastener consists of a lever that acts on an eccentric, which is pressed against the clamp holder. Instead of the quick-release fastener, a simple fastening nut can also be used to fasten the connecting element. If the fastening nut is designed as a wing nut, for example, the holder can also be fastened without tools. In the case of a standard fastening nut, only the simplest tools are required.

[0027] In a further development of the invention, the connecting element has barbs. The barbs allow the connecting element or parts of the connecting element, such as the sensor bolts or the bolt-shaped fastening element, to be easily snapped into place. For example, a sensor bolt with barbs can be easily inserted through the openings of the sensor. As soon as the barbs emerge from the other side of the opening, the sensor bolt is blocked by the barbs and fixed in place.

[0028] According to the invention, the sensor can be rotated around its optical axis during mounting. For this purpose, the rotation axis must be located approximately in the center of the sensor, between the transmitting and receiving lenses. According to the invention, the openings or mounting holes on the sensor can be located at various points, yet the mounting can always be rotated around the center of the sensor. A mounting axis of the sensor is thus decoupled from a mounting axis on the rod or mounting plate, so that rotation around the sensor center is always possible. This is a great advantage, for example, with a retro-reflective sensor.

[0029] A further effect according to the present invention is that all possible lever arms are minimized since the axis of rotation is in the center of the sensor, thereby increasing robustness against shock and vibration.

[0030] The invention will be explained below with reference to further advantages and features, using exemplary embodiments, with reference to the accompanying drawings. The figures of the drawing show: Fig. 1 shows a holder according to the invention in an embodiment; Fig. 2 a holder in a further embodiment; Fig. 2a a holder in a further embodiment; Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 a bolt plate with bolt system and sensor; Fig. 5 a connecting element with barbs; Fig. 6 a holder in a further embodiment; Fig. 7 a holder with individual parts; Fig. 8 a holder in assembled state with a quick release in a perspective view; Fig. 9 a holder in assembled condition with a quick release in a side view. Fig. 10 to 12 a holder according to the invention with a connecting element and a mounting body

[0031] Fig. 10 shows a holder according to the invention for a sensor 1 for fastening the sensor 1 to a mounting body 3, wherein the sensor 1 is connected to a connecting element 26, wherein a clamping holder 10 is provided which engages around the mounting body 3, wherein the clamping holder 10 is connected to the connecting element 26 and the clamping holder 10 is pressed against the mounting body 3 by the connecting element 26 and at the same time the sensor 1 is fastened by the connecting element 26.

[0032] In the following figures, functionally identical parts are provided with identical reference symbols.

[0033] According to Fig. 10, the mounting body 3 is a mounting plate 5, in particular a sheet metal. Furthermore, the clamp holder 10 has an insert 56 for receiving a rod or, as explicitly shown, for receiving the mounting body 3, for example, a mounting plate 5.

[0034] Sensor 1 is according to Fig. 10 is held by a bolt plate 4. The bolt plate 4 has sensor bolts 16 which engage in a locking plate 8 to form a connection between the locking plate 8 and the sensor 1. The sensor bolts 16 can be guided laterally past the sensor so that the sensor is arranged between the sensor bolts. The sensor bolts 16 are guided through the holding plate 6, whereby the bolt plate 4 is also connected to the holding plate 6. For example, the sensor bolts 16 are pushed through the locking plate 8 and then moved laterally into a groove in the locking plate 8 to secure them. The connecting element 26 engages in the holding plate 6 and connects the holding plate 6 to the clamp holder 10 and simultaneously to the mounting body 3, whereby the sensor is fastened to the mounting body by the holder 28.

[0035] Fig. 11 shows the holder according to Fig. 10 in a perspective view. The clamp holder 10 has an opening 58, for example in the form of a bore, an elongated hole, or a punched portion, which can be round or square, for receiving the connecting element 26.

[0036] Fig. 12 shows the holder 28 according to the invention in a schematic side view. The connecting element 26 has a bolt system 18 with a bolt-shaped fastening means 36 that is guided through the clamp holder 10, a bolt plate 4 in which the bolt-shaped fastening means 36 is fastened, and the sensor bolts 16 that are guided along the sensor 1. The sensor 1 is secured to the sensor bolts 16 by the locking plate 8. The connecting element 26 has a fastening means, for example a fastening nut 44, on the side of the clamp holder 10 opposite the side on which the sensor 1 is arranged, for tightening the connecting element 26. As a result, the sensor 1 is pressed against the holding plate 6 by the sensor bolts 16. As soon as the sensor 1 is pressed against the holding plate 6, only the clamping jaws (not shown) can move. Therefore, the clamping jaws of the clamp holder 10 are compressed between the holding plate 6 and the fastening nut 44 and pressed against a rod or the mounting body 3, creating a force-locking fastening of the sensor 1. The connecting element 26 is tightened until both the sensor 1 and the clamp holder 10 are securely fixed.

[0037] Fig. 1 shows a holder 28 according to the invention according to a further exemplary embodiment for a sensor 1 for fastening the sensor 1 to a rod 2, wherein the sensor 1 has at least one opening 30 in the form of a bore for receiving a connecting element 26, wherein a clamping holder 10 with two clamping jaws 32 is provided, which engages around the rod 2, wherein the clamping jaws 32 have an opening 50 in the form of a bore for receiving the connecting element 26 and the clamping jaws 32 are pressed against the rod 2 by the connecting element 26 and at the same time the sensor 1 is fastened by the connecting element 26. In the following figures, identical parts are provided with identical reference numerals. The connecting element 26 can, for example, be a bolt-shaped fastening means 36 with a screw head. The connecting element 26 has, for example, an external thread which engages with an internal thread 48 of a single clamping jaw 32, so that the clamping jaws 32 are pressed together by the connecting element 26.

[0038] Fig. 2 shows a structurally almost identical holder 28 according to Fig. 1, however, the connecting element 26 has a bolt-shaped fastening means 36 which can be operated manually, for example in the form of wings 46, similar to a wing screw, so that the connecting element 26 can be fastened by the fastening means with the bare hand.

[0039] Fig. 3 shows a sensor 1 and a connecting element 26, which has a bolt plate 4 with a bolt system 18 with the sensor bolts 16. These parts are, for example, parts of the holder 28 according to Fig. 6. In this example, the sensor has two openings 30 for receiving the two sensor bolts 16. The bolt plate 4 has a through hole 38, particularly in the center, for receiving a bolt-shaped fastening means (not shown). The bolt plate is in Fig. 3 in a side view and to the right in a top view. The sensor bolts 16 are longer than the openings 30 in the sensor 1, so that the sensor bolts 16 can protrude on the other side of the sensor 1. The sensor bolts 16 each have two grooves 40 at their ends. The locking plate 8 is then fastened to the grooves 40 according to Fig. 6 attached.

[0040] Fig. 4 shows a sensor 1 and a connecting element 26, which has a bolt plate 4 with a bolt system 18 with the sensor bolts 16, according to Fig. 3. These parts are, for example, parts of the holder 28 according to Fig. 6. In this example, the sensor has three openings 30 for receiving the three sensor bolts 16. The bolt plate 4 has a through hole 38, particularly in the middle. The bolt plate 4 is in Fig. 3 in a side view and to the right in a top view.

[0041] Fig. 5 shows a sensor bolt 16 with spring-loaded barbs 24, instead of the grooves according to Fig. 3 and Fig. 4. The barbs 24 are folded in when the sensor pin 16 is pushed through the openings 30 of the sensor 1 and unfold after the insertion, blocking the sensor pin 16 in the opening of the sensor and preventing it from being retracted. According to the invention, other conventional options for connecting the sensor pin 16 to the openings of the sensor are also conceivable, such as inserts or 90° fixations.

[0042] Fig. 6 shows the holder 28 according to the invention in a schematic side view. The connecting element 26 has a bolt system 18 with a bolt-shaped fastening means 36 that is guided through the clamp holder 10, a bolt plate 4 in which the bolt-shaped fastening means 36 is fastened, and the sensor bolts 16 that are guided through the sensor 1. As soon as the sensor 1 is pressed against the holding plate 6, only the clamping jaws can move. Therefore, the clamping jaws of the clamp holder 10 are compressed between the holding plate 6 and the fastening nut 44 and pressed against the rod 2, creating a force-locking fastening of the sensor 1. The connecting element 26 is tightened until both the sensor 1 and the clamp holder 10 are securely fixed.

[0043] Fig. Figure 7 shows examples of individual parts of the holder 28 according to the invention, in particular from the Fig. 6, Fig. 8 and Fig. 9. The following individual parts can be made of aluminum, steel, stainless steel or plastic. The reference number 8 represents the locking plate 8. The locking plate 8 is, for example, L-shaped and has openings for the sensor bolts 16. The locking plate 8 can have a window for transmitting and receiving elements of, for example, an optical sensor 1. Furthermore, the locking plate 8 may have a window or a recess for a display or operating elements. The locking plate 8 is, for example, designed as a stamped and bent part. In addition to fastening the sensor 1, the locking plate 8 also serves as mechanical protection for the sensor 1. For example, flying material such as chips or transported goods cannot impact the sensor, but instead only impacts the stable locking plate.

[0044] The retaining plate 6 is L-shaped and has an additional web approximately in the middle, which runs parallel to the short L-shaped end. The retaining plate 6 is also designed, for example, as a stamped and bent part. Holes or openings for the sensor bolts 16 are provided in the retaining plate 6.

[0045] Sensor 1 is also shown. Sensor 1 has, for example, a cuboid-shaped housing with openings 30 for sensor pins 16. Sensor 1 can be optoelectronic, inductive, capacitive, or a sensor with another sensor principle.

[0046] The sensor bolts 16 have a bolt head at one end that protrudes beyond the diameter of the sensor bolt 16. At the opposite end, the sensor bolt 16 has grooves 40 for fastening in the locking plate 8, which engages in the grooves 40. However, the fastening of the sensor bolt 16 can also consist of other connection techniques such as threads, barbs, split pins, special geometries, or snap mechanisms.

[0047] The rod 2 is designed as a round cylinder and serves to hold the clamp holder 10. The rod 2 can be made of aluminum or steel, for example.

[0048] The clamp holder 10 has two clamping jaws 32, which receive the rod 2 and by which the clamp holder 10 is held to the rod 2. The clamp holder 10 is made, for example, from aluminum or steel. The clamp holder 10 has a circular support surface for the webs of the holding plate 6. Due to the support of the webs of the holding plate 6 on the clamp holder 10 with a leverage effect, the holder 28 is very robust against vibrations. The clamping jaws 32 each have an opening 50 for receiving the connecting element 26, in particular the bolt-shaped fastening means 36 of the connecting element 26. A distance is provided between the clamp holder 10 and the holding plate such that the connecting element 26 can move.

[0049] The bolt-shaped fastening means 36 is fastened at one end to the bolt plate 4, for example with the fastening nut 12. A quick release 22 is provided at the other end of the bolt-shaped fastening means 36.

[0050] The quick release 22 has an eccentric 52 and a lever 54 for moving the eccentric 52 and clamping it against the clamp holder 10. Furthermore, the eccentric 52 or the quick release 22 can have locking means to prevent the quick release from becoming loose.

[0051] The holder 28 is mounted as follows: First, the bolt-shaped fastening means 36 with the mounted quick release 22 is guided through the openings 50 of the clamp holder 10. The sensor bolts 16 are then guided into the outer openings of the bolt plate 4 so that the ends with the grooves 40 point away from the bolt plate 4. The bolt plate 4 is then fastened to the bolt-shaped fastening means 36 with the fastening nut 12. The holding plate 6 with the openings can now be pushed onto the sensor bolts 16. The sensor bolts 16 penetrate the holding plate 6. The sensor 1 with the openings 30 can in turn be pushed onto the protruding sensor bolts 16 so that the sensor bolts 16 also penetrate the sensor 1. Now, if necessary, the locking plate 8 is placed on the sensor bolts 16 and moved laterally into the grooves 40 of the sensor bolts 16 so that the sensor 1 and the locking plate 8 are fastened. The clamp holder 10 is either already arranged on a rod 2 or can now be pushed onto a rod 2 lengthwise or laterally.

[0052] As long as the quick release 22 with the eccentric 52 is not yet tightened, the clamp holder 10 can be moved 360° along and around the rod, and the sensor 1 can be rotated 360° around the axis of the bolt-shaped fastening element 36 in order to adjust the sensor. As soon as the sensor 1 is precisely aligned as desired, the quick release 22 is tightened, whereby the bolt-shaped fastening element 36 is pulled by the eccentric 52 towards the quick release 22. This also pulls the sensor bolts 16 towards the quick release 22, whereby the sensor 1 is clamped and fastened between the locking plate 8 and the holding plate 6. As soon as the sensor 1 can no longer move, the holding plate 6 is pressed against the clamp holder 10, whereby the clamping jaws 32 are pressed against the rod 2 and fixed.According to the invention, the sensor 1 is thus fastened to the rod 2 by a single connecting element 26 and by a single fastening movement, wherein the sensor 1 is still adjustable before fastening.

[0053] Fig. 8 shows a further embodiment of the invention, which corresponds to the embodiment according to Fig. 6 is similar with the individual parts from Fig. 7 in assembled condition. Fig. Figure 8 shows the holder according to the invention in a perspective view. Instead of the fastening nut 44 as a fastening means from Fig. 6 is at Fig. 8, a quick-release fastener 22 is provided as a fastening means. The quick-release fastener allows the connecting element 26 to be easily tightened by hand.

[0054] Fig. 9 shows a side view of the holder according to the invention according to Fig. 8.

[0055] The shown embodiments according to Fig.1 to 9 can be combined with each other.
