Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a plastic sealing strip designed for attachment to a window profile, with an exposed sealing agent, for sealing interaction with a building component such as, in particular, a window reveal, wherein the sealing strip is designed as a profile part with profile webs and has an adhesive surface separate from the sealing agent.
[0002] Such sealing strips are frequently used in connection with window installation. In a known sealing strip, see DE 199 44 611 A1, an expandable foam is used as the sealing agent. The foam can be contained in a foil covering that can be torn open for activation. Alternatively, the foam can be contained in an openable chamber, see, for example, EP 530 653 A1.
[0003] The foam used in the known strips is not advantageous as a sealant in every respect. For example, it is not airtight and / or gas-tight. Furthermore, the required foil wrapping of the compressed foam is relatively labor-intensive. If the foam is improperly handled during the chambering process, it can leak out or activate prematurely, even before being attached to a window profile on the construction site.
[0004] From DE 10 2010 035 166 A1, a sealing strip is known in which the adhesive surface, used to attach the sealing strip to the window profile, consists of a non-curing adhesive. This sealing strip cannot provide a seal with a building component. However, since it is intended to serve as a new construction strip that simultaneously provides a plaster finish, this is not necessary. Rather, the strip is plastered over on the building side.
[0005] DE 39 38 115 A1 discloses a sealing strip in which, as already mentioned, a sealing tape made of expandable plastic material is provided in a chamber that is initially closed. The chamber is opened shortly before installation. DE 102 46 951 A1 discloses a sealing strip in which a sealant is injected against a rib of the sealing strip after it has been installed, allowing it to harden. DE 89 13 333 U1 discloses a sealing strip in which a foam material, comparable to that of DE 39 38 115 A1, is contained in a chamber that is initially closed.
[0006] German patent DE 20107556 U1 discloses a plaster strip for use in a reveal area. The plaster strip has two lips on its underside between which a silicone paste is applied. When the plaster strip is pressed against a building component, the silicone paste assists in the suction action of suction cups located on the plaster strip.
[0007] Starting from the prior art described above, for example a sealing strip according to the aforementioned EP 530 653 A, the invention deals with the problem of providing a plastic sealing strip designed for attachment to a window profile, which can be manufactured cost-effectively while providing effective sealing to a building component.
[0008] The invention further relates to a plastic sealing strip attached to a window profile, with a removable sealant, wherein the plastic sealing strip interacts sealingly with an adjoining building component, such as a window reveal, by means of the sealant, wherein the sealing strip is further designed as a profile part with profile webs and has an adhesive surface separate from the sealant.
[0009] Therefore, starting from the aforementioned prior art, the invention deals with the task of providing a favorable seal to the building part.
[0010] According to a first inventive concept, the solution to this problem is provided by the fact that the sealant is provided as a permanently adhesive paste-like mass, in particular in the form of a butyl-based mass, and adheres to a profile web of the sealing strip due to its own adhesive force.
[0011] Because the sealant adheres to a profile web due to its own adhesive strength, it is practically impossible to accidentally remove it before installation. Furthermore, its paste-like consistency and fluidity allow for easy shaping and, once installed, adaptation to the substrate with which the sealing strip is intended to seal. Due to its airtightness and, preferably, gas tightness, such a sealing strip also offers the advantage of eliminating the need for an additional sealing tape.
[0012] According to one embodiment, the sealant is contained within a profiled chamber of the plastic sealing strip. This chamber is open on one side or can be opened on the other. The opening of the chamber is preferably oriented in the sealing direction relative to the strip's installation, or, in particular, can be aligned in this direction. It can also be movably connected to the strip.
[0013] In further development, such a chamber can have a boundary formed by a soft plastic wall. While the plastic sealing strip is otherwise preferably made of a conventional rigid plastic such as PVC, PP, PE, or PS, it is correspondingly preferred to design at least one chamber wall as a soft plastic wall, optionally also as a soft plastic lip. This can be, for example, a soft PVC or a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). This allows for a favorable seal against the surface to be sealed, even with this chamber wall. The chamber wall can be directly molded during the production of the plastic sealing strip using a two-component extrusion process. A chamber wall made of soft plastic can also be designed as a soft plastic lip. In this case, a lip-like taper is preferably formed in the case of walls with free-ending cross-sections.The chamber's boundaries can be flexibly designed. In particular, this flexibly configured chamber wall can provide the surface to which the sealant preferentially adheres due to its own adhesive strength. The sealant is thus not only compressible and flexible in itself, but also in conjunction with the chamber wall.
[0014] In particular, two opposing chamber walls can be designed as soft plastic walls, preferably soft plastic lips, while a chamber floor may consist of the same hard plastic as the plastic sealing strip. Alternatively, the floor can also be made of a soft plastic.
[0015] A profile web to which the sealant adheres can also be designed as a soft plastic web.
[0016] Such a soft plastic bridge, with adhering sealant, can be designed to be cantilevered, so that even in the installed state it leads to a lack of contact of the sealant with the building component due to appropriate prestressing.
[0017] The sealant is further covered, at least opposite its attachment to the profile web, by a removable cover. The cover can, in principle, be a hinged lid for the chamber, which can be opened, as is known per se. However, it is more preferred that the cover consists of a film, a conventional thin plastic film, which can also be transparent. The film can be provided over a large area compared to the rest of the strip, so that it can be easily grasped with one hand and peeled off before installation. This then activates the sealant.
[0018] With regard to the sealant, it is preferred that it has a so-called Mooney viscosity ML 1+8 at 125 degrees Celsius in the range of 25 - 55, more preferably in the range of 30 - 52, e.g. 32, 51 or 33 or 46 or 45 or 32.
[0019] The sealant can be a synthetic rubber, in particular a solvent-based synthetic rubber. The sealant can have a solids content of 4–10% by mass, preferably up to 8% by mass. The viscosity according to Brookfield, RVT Sp. 2, 50 rpm, can be in the range of 15–150 mPas, more preferably in the range of 20–120 mPas.
[0020] Alternatively or additionally, it could also be an acrylic-based sealant, e.g. an acrylate adhesive.
[0021] The butyl adhesive may be a mixture of isobutylene and natural rubber. It may contain carbon black particles.
[0022] The invention is further explained below with reference to the accompanying drawing, which, however, only represents exemplary embodiments. Fig. 1 a partially perspective, partially cut-away representation of a typical installation situation of a window with attached sealing strip; Fig. 2 a schematic cross-section regarding an installation situation according to Fig. 1; Fig. 3 Cross-section through a sealing strip in an alternative embodiment; Fig. 4 a cross-section according to Fig. 3, in a further alternative embodiment; Fig. 5 another alternative embodiment in cross-section; Fig. 6 another alternative embodiment in cross-section; Fig. 7 another alternative embodiment in cross-section; Fig. 8 another alternative embodiment in cross-section; Fig. 9 relating to a cross-section of an installation situation (of the strip alone) according to the embodiment Fig. 8 and Fig. 10 a perspective representation of the bar according to Fig. 8.
[0023] The presentation and description initially refers to Fig. 1, a window profile designed as a window frame 1, which is sealed against a window reveal 2. The window frame 1 consists of a multi-chambered hollow plastic profile with outer surfaces 3.
[0024] Opposite the window reveal 2, a seal consisting of inserted foam 4 is initially provided between the window frame 1 and the window reveal 2. A sealing strip 5 can also be arranged on the window frame side of the foam 4. In this embodiment, the sealing strip 5 is attached to the outside of the window. Furthermore, the plastic sealing strip 7 described here is attached to the inside of the window frame 1, on the corresponding outer surface 3 of the window frame. The sealing strip 7 has one or more chambers 6, 8 and, on its underside, facing the window reveal 2 in the installed state, a sealant 9, which in this embodiment is covered on the outside by a profiled web of the sealing strip 7, designed here as a sealing lip 10. The sealing lip 10 shields the sealant 9 from the outside. The sealant 9 provides the direct sealing connection to the window reveal 2.
[0025] It is also possible that the sealant 9 only acts on a part of the building, here the window reveal 2, by means of an intermediate element, in particular a sealing tape 5.
[0026] The sealant 9 is a permanently adhesive sealant, specifically formulated as a butyl-based, tough-elastic compound. Due to its own adhesive strength, the sealant 9 adheres to one of the profile webs of the sealing strip 7. It also adheres, by virtue of its adhesive strength, to the outer surface of the associated window reveal 2.
[0027] In the embodiment of the Fig. 2 The sealant 9 is contained in a sealing chamber 19. The sealing chamber 19 is preferably formed directly from rigid plastic sections of the profile strip. It is open on one side. The cross-sectional view shows that the sealant 9 is contained in the sealing chamber 19 between two webs, which are preferably designed as a sealing lip 10.
[0028] In Fig. Figure 3 shows a possible initial or manufacturing state of a sealing strip, also depicted here in a further alternative embodiment. The sealing chamber 19 is formed by a rigid plastic profile web 11 and two flexible plastic profile webs 12, 13. The flexible plastic profile webs 12, 13 are cantilevered in the cross-sectional view shown, while the rigid plastic profile web 11 is formed as part of a further closed chamber of the profile strip. The sealant 9, which preferably adheres to the profile web 11 and / or one or both of the further profile webs 12, 13, is covered on the outside by a film 14. The film 14 can be removed before the sealing strip 5 is installed, so that the sealant is then exposed. The sealant 9 is arranged in the sealing chamber 19, or provided with such a filling, that it projects at least partially beyond the free ends of the profile webs 12, 13 in the cross-sectional view shown. Thus, after removing the foil 14, it is so exposed that when applying it to a window, the sealant 9 is the first part to come into contact with the building component.
[0029] The sealing strip 5 further comprises, preferably only on one side, an adhesive surface 15. This is preferably the case in all embodiments. The adhesive surface 15 allows it to be attached to the aforementioned outer surface of a window profile. The adhesive surface 15 preferably extends over the entire height of the sealing strip, as is the case, for example, in Fig. 3 or Fig. 4 is evident. This, however, excludes the chamber in which the sealing agent 9 is contained. Insofar as, for example, according to the embodiments of the Fig. 4 to 6 and 8 to 10 where a cantilevered connecting web 18 is formed or a single profile web 13 immediately connects to the underside of the hard plastic, possibly as a soft plastic profile web, preferably no adhesive surface 15 is provided in this area either.
[0030] In the embodiment Fig. 4 is an approximately identical design to the embodiment in the Fig. 3. However, with the difference that a profiled web, preferably made of a soft plastic, is formed on only one side with respect to the sealant 9 as a chamber wall. On the opposite side, the sealant can, as shown, remain exposed even in the manufactured or delivered state of the sealing strip. It can also be provided that the film 14 creates additional coverings here, or even that an additional film is provided there as a covering.
[0031] In the embodiment of the Fig. 5. The sealing strip is not chambered, but rather single-walled. In cross-section, it is essentially L-shaped, with a long longitudinal L-rib 16 and a short transverse L-section 17. On the outside of the transverse L-section 17 and / or on the inside, the sealing strip is formed in the same manner as in the embodiment of the Fig. The sealant 9 is held in place by the molded sealing lip 4. It is in turn covered by a film 14.
[0032] The embodiment of the Fig. 5 can also, as specifically the embodiment described below, Fig. 7, so that it can be supplied wound on a roll. The roll delivery form is clearly space-saving. In the embodiment of the Fig. 5 is preferably provided that a hinge-like connection is formed between the L-cross section 17 and the L-longitudinal web 16. This can be in the form of a fold line. This can also be in the form of an extruded transition made of a soft plastic, such as soft PVC.
[0033] In the embodiment of the Fig. Figure 6 shows a sealing strip with a freely projecting connecting web 18 facing, for example, the window reveal when installed. A profile web 17, preferably made of soft plastic, is formed on the connecting web 18 at an angle to the cross-sectional view, and the sealant 9 is applied to the outside of this profile web 17. It is further covered on the outside by a film 14 as already described. The profile web 17 projects in the Fig. 6 shown in the manufacturing state to the outside, i.e., in relation to an installation state towards the window reveal, beyond the connecting web 18. The same applies to the embodiment of the Fig. 7 and Fig. 10. In the embodiments of the Fig. 8 and Fig. 9 forms the outer end of the connecting web 18 and at the same time the connection area for the profile web 17.
[0034] In the embodiment of the Fig. 6 as well as in the embodiments of the Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 It is advantageous that, in the manufactured state, as shown, the profile web, optionally designed as an L-profile web 17, is formed in a certain pre-swept position during manufacturing. In the installed state, see the example of the Fig. 9 for the embodiment of the Fig. 8, which applies in the same way to the embodiments of the Fig. 6 and Fig. 7 results in an elastic deformation of the profile web 17 and / or 18, so that with a corresponding pre-tension the sealant 9 is pressed against the window reveal 2 in the installed state.
[0035] This advantage arises from the fact that the aforementioned profile web 17 is aligned with the direction of extension of the plastic sealing strip in the sealing direction, i.e., with respect to the Fig. 5, for example, forms an obtuse angle with the extension direction of the L-longitudinal web 16. The obtuse angle can be between, for example, 100° and 160°. The obtuse angle refers to the initial, uninstalled state.
[0036] Furthermore, the following also applies to the embodiments of the Fig. 6 and Fig. 7. The sealant is applied to the outside of the L-shaped cross-section 17 and is also covered by a film 14 in its delivered state. This is also the case here, for example, as shown, leaving two transverse sides of the sealant 9 exposed. However, as described above, the film 14 can also be arranged to cover the sealant, or another film can be provided.
[0037] Regarding the design of the Fig. In addition to the described design, it is also important that chamber-wall-like profile webs, which are comparable to the L-cross web 17 of the prescribed embodiments, are connected to the profile web, which is comparable to the L-cross web 17 of the prescribed embodiments, with an essentially right-angled angle to the outside, and that the sealing agent 9 is received in this chamber thus formed.
[0038] For the installation state, it is also important that the sealing strip is initially chambered as described above, but then, see reference numeral 18 in Fig. 9, a cantilevered web is attached, to which - in relation to the cross-sectional view shown - the soft plastic profile web 17 with the further chamber walls is attached.
[0039] Another embodiment of this is, for example, in Fig. Figure 10 shows the soft plastic profile web 17, which extends from the free end of the cantilevered web 18 (cross-sectional view) along its longitudinal extent. In the area of attachment, the soft plastic profile web 17 forms an acute angle with the web 18 in cross-section.
