Abstract
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION(a) Field of the Invention
[0001] The present invention relates to a vehicle door trim assembly, and more particularly to a vehicle door trim assembly that is installed along an upper edge of the rear door of the vehicle and can improve an aesthetic appearance. (b) Description of the related facts
[0002] Conventional vehicle frame doors have a structure in which an inner door panel and an outer door panel are combined to form a door frame assembly, and a door frame forming a door window is connected to the inner door panel and the outer door panel. Such vehicle frame doors offer advantages in terms of weight and cost, but have disadvantages such as corrosion or deterioration of the aesthetic appearance.
[0003] Typically, a door trim, or molding, constructed of stainless steel is attached to a door frame along a top edge to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the door.
[0004] Particularly in the case of a rear door, a variable trim strip (or molding) whose width varies along a length of the vehicle is attached to the upper edge of the door frame to improve the aesthetic appearance of the door.
[0005] The door frame is typically formed from metal in a predefined shape, and the variable trim strip is formed from stainless steel in a variable shape whose width varies along the length of the vehicle. Thus, the variable trim strip includes a plastic insert molding to connect the variable trim strip (the variable injection molding) and the door frame, and the insert molding is adhesively bonded to the door frame.
[0006] Furthermore, a door weatherstrip is attached to the door frame by means of a lift molding. The shape of the lift molding varies according to the variation in the width of the variable molding.
[0007] In conjunction with a conventional vehicle door trim assembly with an attached variable molding (trim), there is a need for increased joint strength between the door frame and the variable trim to prevent the variable trim from peeling off or falling out, with the goal of improving and maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle door.
[0008] In this case, KR 10 0 795 699 B1 discloses a door strip of a vehicle which is provided in such a way that it forms a glass run insertion groove on the upper part of an outer surface of a door frame body of a door frame and projects upwards and downwards from an outer end of the drip rail.
[0009] KR 10 2012 001 312 A discloses a door frame assembly comprising a door frame strip, a sealing strip mounting strip, a sealing strip, and a glazing bead. The door frame strip is arranged in the front surface of a door frame, with the outwardly facing width varying. The sealing strip mounting strip is attached to the upper end portion of the door frame strip.
[0010] KR 10 2005 0 097 082 A discloses a mounting structure for a molded part end cap of a vehicle, which is mounted on a roof panel, a windshield, or a door side of a vehicle by combining it with a molded part end cap having an insertion groove formed in the center of a main molding and insertion units arranged on both sides to be inserted into the insertion groove. The mounting structure for a molded part end cap of a vehicle consists of a sliding hole formed longitudinally on the insertion groove side of the main molding, and a suspension hook unit arranged on the insertion unit of the molded part end cap and movably combined with the sliding hole. Therefore, a gap between the main molding and the molded part end cap is regulated by the sliding hole and the suspension hook unit.
[0011] Furthermore, JP 2006-69229 A discloses an end cap that is inserted into a cutout of a molded body. The end cap and the cutout are connected to each other by folding locking claws formed in advance on the side of the cutout to firmly secure a lid to an end surface. End surfaces near a counterpole of the molded body from the locking claws are formed in advance as inclined surfaces and overlap a side surface of positioning grooves by a predetermined amount. The tensile force of the end cap on the molded body is continuously applied by the abutment of the inclined surfaces of the locking claws against the side surfaces.
[0012] Finally, in WO 2013 / 051589 A1, in order to obtain a door frame structure that is applicable to a variety of vehicle doors of different specifications and allows as much commonality as possible, a door frame structure comprises: first and second door leaf bodies having pocket-shaped parts, weather strip retaining grooves, and glass run retaining grooves, respectively, with a common cross-sectional shape and design parts with exceptionally different shapes; and an additional tip attached to the design part of the first door leaf body and not attached to the design part of the second door leaf body. The first door leaf body to which the additional tip is attached is used for a door of one specification, and the second door leaf body is used for a door of a different specification.
[0013] The above information disclosed in the Background section is intended only to enhance the understanding of the background of the invention and may therefore contain information that does not constitute prior art already known to a person of ordinary skill in the art in this country. SUMMARY
[0014] The present invention provides a vehicle door trim assembly that can improve the aesthetic appearance of a vehicle door, while stably retaining a variable trim to a door frame and achieving weight and cost reductions.
[0015] An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a vehicle door trim assembly comprising: a variable trim strip (molding) integrally coupled to an upper edge of a vehicle door, wherein a width of the variable trim strip changes along a length thereof, thereby making the trim strip variable in width, and an insert molding adhesively attachable to an upper portion of the variable trim strip, a lower portion of the variable trim strip being adhesively attached to the vehicle door along the height of the vehicle, an end piece connected to each end of the length of the variable trim strip and the insert molding, and wherein the end piece comprises: a piece body having a polygonal shape; a hook slot formed at a rear portion of the length of the piece body and at a lower portion of the height of the piece body;a stopper formed at a rear portion of the length of an upper edge and projecting upward along the height of the piece body; and an end edge formed at the rear end of the length of the piece body and tapering upward along the height of the piece body and inclined thereto along the length of the piece body; wherein, when the end piece is connected to the insert molding, the upper edge of the piece body is inserted and received in the insert molding, and a lower edge of the insert molding overlaps the upper edge; and wherein, when the end piece is connected to the insert molding, the stopper and the end edge of the end piece are in contact with the rear end of the insert molding, thereby preventing the insert molding from moving longitudinally.
[0016] The vehicle door may include a door frame forming a door window, wherein the variable trim strip may be connected to the door frame.
[0017] The door frame may have a mounting flange positioned at an outer side of a width of the vehicle, positioned at an upper part of the height of the vehicle, and extending along the length of the vehicle, wherein the variable trim strip can be attached to the mounting flange with the adhesive tape.
[0018] The door frame may include an upper connecting recess opened upwardly along the height of the vehicle, wherein a lifting molding may be connected to the upper connecting recess, and a door weather strip may be connected to the lifting molding.
[0019] The door frame may include a lower connecting recess that opens downwards along the height of the vehicle, and a glass run molding may be connected to the lower connecting groove. The glass run molding may have a connecting recess that is indented inward along its width, and the door frame may include a connecting stop or fitting that is inserted into and connected to the connecting recess.
[0020] A lower hook bent inward along the width of the vehicle may be integrally formed on a lower end of the variable trim strip along the height of the vehicle, and the glass run molding may have a receiving recess where the lower hook is received.
[0021] Non-woven fabric can be attached to the bottom hook.
[0022] The lower hook may protrude to a projection height from a bottom surface of a mounting flange.
[0023] The protrusion height may preferably be 0.2 mm or more.
[0024] A receiving recess for receiving an upper part of the mounting flange may be formed at the bottom of the insert molding along the length of the vehicle, and the receiving recess may include an inner projection positioned in an inner side of the width of the vehicle and an outer projection positioned in the outer side thereof, wherein the outer projection may be shaped like a triangle which becomes narrow towards the bottom along the height of the vehicle.
[0025] If the variable trim strip can be connected and glued to the door frame, the outer projection can overlap the mounting flange.
[0026] At least one upper hook may be provided in the upper part of the variable trim strip along the height of the vehicle and inserted into the insert molding.
[0027] An end piece can be connected to each end of the length of the variable trim strip and the insert molding.
[0028] A hook may be provided on each end of the length of the variable trim strip and inserted into and connected to the hook slot of the end piece.
[0029] The lifting fitting can be attached to the door frame using one or more water-resistant clips.
[0030] Each water-resistant clip may include: a cylindrical clip body, a clip head portion formed at the front part of the clip body and having a larger diameter than the clip body; and a water-resistant flange radially extending from the clip body to close an assembly hole of the door frame when the water-resistant clip (a clamp) is inserted into and fixed to the assembly hole of the door frame, the front part corresponding to a front end of the clip body.
[0031] In the vehicle door trim assembly according to an embodiment of the present invention, the variable trim strip is attached to the door frame with adhesive tape, and the lower end of the variable trim strip along the height of the vehicle is inserted into the door frame. Thus, the variable trim strip can be stably held on the door frame, preventing the variable trim strip from peeling off or falling off and improving the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle door.
[0032] The variable trim strip and the insert molding are combined with each other, and a plurality of hooks formed on the variable trim strip increase the connection strength between the variable molding (the variable trim strip) and the insert molding, thereby preventing the variable trim strip and the insert molding from being separated from each other.
[0033] Because the glass run molding, which is fitted into and secured to the door frame, has a recess, and the door frame that is inserted into the recess has a stop / fitting, the connection strength between the glass run molding and the door frame can be increased. Therefore, the vehicle's noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance and the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle door can be improved.
[0034] A pressure-resistant protrusion can be formed on the insert molding for use when the variable trim strip (the variable molding) is inserted into a mold for insert molding. Therefore, it is possible to prevent surface dents on the variable trim strip caused by the mold core, which are produced when the variable trim strip used to form the insert molding is removed from the mold.
[0035] It is possible to prevent the end piece from falling out because the end piece is connected to both the variable trim strip and the insert molding.
[0036] Since both opposite ends of the lifting molding are assembled with the door frame via water-resistant clips, this prevents corrosion caused by moisture ingress or the like, thereby improving durability and aesthetic appearance.
[0037] Furthermore, reducing the size of the insert molding can result in weight and cost savings and improve the overall assembly characteristics of the trim assembly. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0042] An exemplary embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0043] With reference to Fig. 1, a vehicle door trim assembly according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention preferably includes a variable molding (variable trim) 20 attached to an upper portion of a vehicle door 10.
[0044] The variable trim strip 20 can change in width along the length of the vehicle.
[0045] That is, the width W of a front part of the variable garnish 20 along the length of the vehicle may be smaller than the width W1 of a rear part thereof.
[0046] The width of the variable trim strip 20 can, for example, increase linearly towards the rear part from the front part.
[0047] Such a variable trim strip 20 (generally a variable molding 20) can serve to improve the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle door.
[0048] With reference to Fig. 2, the vehicle door 10 may include a door frame 12 forming a door window. The door frame 12 may have a mounting flange 122 having a substantially rectangular shape positioned in an outer side of a width of the vehicle, positioned in an upper part of a height of the vehicle, and extending along a length of the vehicle.
[0049] The variable molding 20 (the variable trim strip 20) may be adhered to the mounting flange 122 with adhesive tape 30. The width of the variable trim strip 20 is greater than the width of the mounting flange 122. When the variable trim strip 20 is adhered to the mounting flange 122, a portion of the inner side of the variable trim strip 20 is partially adhered to the mounting flange 122.
[0050] An upper part of the variable trim strip 20 along the height of the vehicle may be connected to an insert molding 22, and a lower part of the variable trim strip 20 may be adhered to the door frame 12 with adhesive tape 30. The above door frame bonding structure including the variable trim strip 20 and the adhesive tape 30 can improve the adhesion of the variable trim strip 20 to the door frame 12, prevent a reduction in adhesion due to deformation of the insert molding 22, and improve the workability of the bonding process, compared with the conventional method in which the adhesive tape 30 is attached to the insert molding 22 (a part formed by insert molding) to adhere the variable trim strip 20 to the door frame 12.
[0051] The door frame 12 may include an upper connecting recess 124 having a substantially U-shaped cross-section that is open upwards along the height of the vehicle, and a lower connecting recess 126 positioned below the upper connecting recess 124 along the height of the vehicle and open downwards along the height of the vehicle.
[0052] A lift molding 40 may be connected to the upper connecting recess 124, and a door weather strip 50 may be connected to the lift molding 40. The door weather strip 50 is disposed between a vehicle body 60 and the door 10 when the door 10 is closed to maintain an air seal therebetween.
[0053] Two opposite ends of the length of the lifting molding 40 can be attached to the door frame 12 via water-resistant clips 90.
[0054] A glass run molding 70 can be inserted into and connected to the lower connection recess 126. The glass run molding 70 is in close contact with a window glass 80 to maintain water repellency and air sealing.
[0055] In order to increase the connection strength between the glass run molding 70 and the door frame 12, the glass run molding 70 may have a connection recess 72 depressed inward along the width thereof, and the door frame 12, facing the connection recess 72, may have a connection stop 128 inserted into and connected to the connection recess 72.
[0056] The connecting recess 72 and the connecting stop 128 can serve to hold the glass run fitting 70 in position when the window glass 80 presses against the glass run fitting 70 when it is inserted into the glass run fitting 70.
[0057] Furthermore, the connecting recess 72 and the connecting stop 128 can serve to absorb manufacturing tolerances generated during the manufacture of the glass run molding 70 or the variable trim strip 20 and therefore the vehicle performance in terms of noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) and the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle door can be improved.
[0058] Referring to Fig. 3, a substantially U-shaped lower hook 202 bent inward along the width of the vehicle may be integrally formed on a lower end of the variable trim strip 20 along the height of the vehicle, and the glass run molding 70 may have a receiving recess 74 where the lower hook 202 is received.
[0059] Non-woven fabric 24 may be attached to the lower hook 202 to prevent injury during assembly.
[0060] The lower hook 202 protrudes to a projection height T from a bottom surface 129 of the mounting flange 122. When the variable molding 20 (the variable trim strip 20) is connected to the door frame 12, the lower hook 202 prevents the variable trim strip 20 from easily falling sideways from the door frame 12 along the width of the vehicle.
[0061] The protrusion height T is preferably 0.2 mm or more.
[0062] Referring to Fig. 4, a receiving recess 222 for receiving an upper part of the mounting flange 122 of the door frame 12 may be formed on the bottom of the lifting molding 22 along the height of the vehicle, and the receiving recess 222 may be formed by an inner projection 223 positioned in the inner side of the width of the vehicle and an outer projection 224 positioned in the outer side thereof.
[0063] The outer protrusion 224 may be formed in a substantially triangular shape (i.e., a triangle-like shape) that tapers downward along the height of the vehicle. When the variable trim strip 20 is bonded and connected to the door frame 12, the outer protrusion 224 may overlap the mounting flange 122.
[0064] Typically, the variable trim 20, formed of stainless steel, and the insert molding 22, formed of plastic, are combined together. To combine the insert molding 22 and the variable trim 20, the variable molding 22 is inserted into an injection mold and held in place, and then plastic resin is injected into the mold to form the insert molding 22. Thereafter, when the core is removed to remove the variable molding 20 (the variable trim 20) and the insert molding 22 from the mold, surface dents may be generated because the variable trim 20 is pressed against the core. Because the outer projection 224 is positioned where the variable trim 20 is pressed against the core, surface dents on the variable molding 20 can be avoided.
[0065] With reference to Fig. 5, a substantially U-shaped upper hook 204 bent inward along the width of the vehicle may be provided in the upper part of the variable molding 20 (the trim strip) along the height of the vehicle.
[0066] A plurality of upper hooks 204 may be formed at predetermined intervals along the length of the variable trim strip 20.
[0067] The plurality of upper hooks 204 can be inserted into the insert molding 22.
[0068] The plurality of upper hooks 204 form the variable trim strip 20 and the insert molding 22, which are firmly attached to each other, thereby preventing the insert molding 22 and the variable trim strip 220 from being separated or falling out.
[0069] The lifting molding 40 can be glued to the door frame 12 with the adhesive tape 30.
[0070] With reference to Fig. 6 and Fig. 7, an end piece 100 can be connected to each end of the length of the variable decorative strip 20 and the insert molding 22.
[0071] The end piece 100 may include a piece body 101 having a polygonal shape, a hook slot 102 formed at a rear part of the length of the piece body 101 and a lower part of the height of the piece body 101 (preferably simultaneously), a stopper 104 formed at a rear part of the length of an upper edge 103 and projecting along the height of the piece body 101, and an end edge 106 formed at the rear end of the length of the piece body 101 and tapering upwards along the height of the piece body 101 and projecting along the length of the piece body 101.
[0072] A hook 206 may be integrally formed on and projecting from each end of the length of the variable fitting 20.
[0073] Since the insert molding 22 and the variable trim strip are combined with each other, when the end piece 100 is connected to the rear end of the variable trim strip 20 and the insert molding 22, the hook 206 of the variable trim strip 20 is inserted into the hook slot 102 of the end piece 100 and connected thereto, thereby increasing the strength of a connection between the end piece 100 and the variable molding 20.
[0074] The upper edge 103 of the end piece 100 is inserted and received in the insert molding 22, and a lower edge 225 of the insert molding 22 along the height of the insert molding 22 overlaps the upper edge 103, thereby increasing the strength of a connection between the insert molding 22 and the end piece 100 by an interlock.
[0075] Furthermore, the stopper 104 and the end edge 106 of the end piece 100 are in contact with the rear end 226 of the insert molding 22, thereby preventing the insert molding 22 from moving longitudinally.
[0076] With reference to Fig. 8, the water-resistant (water-repellent) clips (clamps) 90 are assembled at two opposite ends of or at several parts of the length of the lifting molding 40. Thus, the lifting molding 40 can be attached to and held on the door frame 12 by the water-resistant clips 90.
[0077] Each water-resistant clip 90 may include a cylindrical clip body 92, a clip head portion 94 formed at the front part of the clip body 92 and having a larger diameter than the clip body 92, and a water-resistant flange 96 extending radially from the clip body 92 to block an assembly hole of the door frame 12 when the water-resistant clip 90 is inserted and secured in the assembly hole of the door frame 12.
[0078] Since the lift molding 40 is adhered to the door frame 12 with the adhesive tape 30 and also secured to the door frame 12 via a plurality of water-resistant clips 90, the strength of the attachment is increased. Furthermore, the water-resistant flange 96 prevents foreign matter such as moisture from entering the assembly hole of the door frame 12. This prevents corrosion of the door frame 12, thereby improving durability and preventing deterioration of the aesthetic appearance. Additionally, reference numeral 32 denotes a release agent covering the adhesive tape 30.
