Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to an adjustable kettlebell with a base main body as well as an adjustment module and a locking module on the base main body.
[0002] A conventional kettlebell disclosed in Taiwanese patent no. I598131 comprises a main body defining a retention space therein, a plurality of weight plates that can be arranged in the retention space, and an adjustment unit mounted on the main body. Each of the weight plates is formed with a central through-groove. The adjustment unit comprises an axial rod, a plurality of support pins mounted on the axial rod, and an operating lever pivotally connected to an upper end of the axial rod. Each of the support pins corresponds in position to, or serves to support, a corresponding weight plate.A user can operate the control lever to rotate the axial rod, rotating each of the support pins between a storage position where the support pin is partially aligned with the central through-slot of the corresponding weight plate, so that the support pin carries the corresponding weight plate when the main body is lifted, and a separate position where the support pin is fully aligned with the central through-slot of the corresponding weight plate, so that the support pin passes through the central through-slot of the corresponding weight plate when the main body is lifted. As such, the weight of the conventional kettlebell is adjustable (the number of weight plates that move along with the main body is adjustable).
[0003] DE 10 2017 113 777 A1 and US 2018 / 0117387 A1 describe a kettlebell with a main body that has a receiving chamber for weight plates. An adjustment unit includes a top cover, an axle rod, several pins, and a lever, wherein the top cover has an axle hole, the pins are radially connected to the axle rod, the lever is pivotally connected to one end of the axle rod, the axle rod passes through the axle hole and the receiving chamber, the pins are located in rotary recesses of the weight plates, and when the axle rod is rotated by the lever through a certain angle and the corresponding pins are thus in the through-holes, the corresponding weight plates can be separated from the receiving chamber of the main body.Furthermore, a locking unit is disclosed, comprising a locking hole in the lever, a receiving hole in a recess, a locking element, and a locking spring. The locking hole is formed in the base of the lever. The receiving hole is formed in the recess of the top cover. The locking element is arranged in the receiving hole. The locking spring is located between the receiving hole and the locking hole and pushes the locking element upwards.
[0004] However, when using the conventional kettlebell, the adjustment unit can be operated by unintentional actuation of the lever in such a way that the support pin(s) is / are moved into the separated position, causing a separation of the weight plate(s) from the main body.
[0005] Therefore, one objective of the disclosure is to provide a kettlebell that can overcome the disadvantage in the prior art.
[0006] The proposed kettlebell comprises a base shell, multiple weight plates, and a lifting tray. The base shell includes a main body, an adjustment module mounted to the main body, and a locking module mounted to the main body. The locking module is functional, switching between a locked state, in which it engages the adjustment module (disabling the adjustment module), and an unlocked state, in which it disengages, enabling the adjustment module to function. The weight plates are stacked on top of each other on the main body. Each weight plate has a barbell hole formed by its top and bottom surfaces. The lifting tray is removable and attached to the main body to switch the locking module from the locked to the unlocked state. The lifting tray includes a coupling module that is detachably coupled to the adjustment module. The coupling module contains a number of support pins, each corresponding to a weight plate in terms of its position. The coupling module can be driven by the adjustment module to move each support pin between a separated position, in which the support pin is aligned with the rod hole of the corresponding weight plate so that the support pin passes through the rod hole of the corresponding weight plate when the lifting tray is lifted, and a supporting position, in which the support pin is offset from the rod hole of the corresponding weight plate so that the support pin supports the corresponding weight plate when the lifting tray is lifted.
[0007] According to claim 1, the locking module comprises a locking plate arranged in the base main body and which partially projects out of the base main body, and at least one elastic locking element having two opposite ends that abut the locking plate and the base main body respectively, wherein the locking plate is pressed downwards by the lifting shell to switch the locking module from the locked state to the unlocked state when the lifting shell is placed on the base main body, wherein at least one elastic locking element elastically displaces the locking plate upwards to switch the locking module into the locked state.
[0008] Other features and advantages of the disclosure will become apparent from the following detailed description of the embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating an embodiment of the kettlebell according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective exploded view of the embodiment; Fig. 3 is a perspective exploded view illustrating a base shell of the embodiment; Fig. 4 is a sectional view illustrating the base shell; Fig. 5 is another sectional view illustrating the base shell; Fig. 6 is a perspective exploded view illustrating a lifting tray of the embodiment; Fig. 7 is a fragmentary cross-sectional representation illustrating a locking module of the base shell in a locking state; Fig. 8 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view illustrating the locking module of the base shell in an unlocked state; Fig. 9 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating a retention mechanism of the base shell in a free state; Fig. 10 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating the restraint mechanism in a restraint state; Fig. 11 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating a positioning pin of the lifting bowl in an engagement position; Fig. 12 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating the positioning pin in a release position; and parts (a) to (f) of Fig. Thirteen schematic views illustrate the relative positions between weight plates and support pins of the embodiment.

[0011] The base shell 1 comprises a base body 11, which defines a retention space therein, an adjustment module 12 mounted on the base body 11, and a locking module 13 mounted on the base body 11. The adjustment module 12 comprises a rotary knob 121 rotatably mounted on an outer surface of the base body 11, a drive mechanism 123 mounted on the base body 11, a transmission gear train 122 connected between the rotary knob 121 and the drive mechanism 123, a retention mechanism 124 arranged between the drive mechanism 123 and the transmission gear train 122, two retention balls 125 arranged between the retention mechanism 124 and the transmission gear train 122, and two elastic retention elements 126 arranged between the retention mechanism 124 and the base body 11.The rotary knob 121 has a variety of weight indicator markings on it.
[0012] The transmission gear train 122 comprises a drive wheel 14 connected to the drive mechanism 123 and a plurality of transmission wheels connected between the drive wheel 14 and the rotary knob 121 such that a rotation of the rotary knob 121 relative to the base body 11 drives the rotation of the drive mechanism 123 relative to the base body 11. The drive wheel 14 has a plurality of retaining grooves 140 formed in an upper surface thereof and arranged about a pivot axis thereof. In one embodiment, the drive wheel 14 is rotatably connected to the drive mechanism 123. The transmission wheels can have various configurations and are not limited to those shown in Fig. The configuration shown is limited to 3.
[0013] With further reference to Fig. The drive mechanism 123 comprises a main drive section 410, which is rotatably mounted on the drive wheel 14, two drive column sections 420 projecting from an upper surface of the main drive section 410, and two detent balls 430. Each of the drive column sections 420 has a column groove 421 opening downwards and a detent hole 422 extending radially through a side wall of the drive column section 420 and being spatially connected to the column groove 421. The detent balls 430 are each held in the column grooves 421 of the drive column sections 420 and are ready to extend partially from the detent holes 422 of the drive column sections 420.
[0014] The retaining mechanism 124 comprises a sliding element 510, which is mounted below the drive column section 410 of the drive mechanism 123 and is movable relative to the main drive section 410 in an up-down direction, and a retaining plate 520, which is arranged between the sliding element 510 and the drive wheel 14. The sliding element 510 has a main sliding section 511, which is arranged in a cuff-like fashion on the main drive section 410 of the drive mechanism 123 and which abuts the retaining plate 520, and two sliding column sections 512, which extend upwards from the main sliding section 511 and which are each inserted into the column grooves 421 of the drive column sections 420. Each of the sliding column sections 512 has an inclined surface 513 at one upper end thereof, which faces the detent hole 422 of the drive column section 420 and which slides against the respective detent balls 430.The retaining plate 520 has a retaining main section 521 which abuts the sliding main section 511 of the sliding member 510, and two extension sections 522 which extend from the retaining main section 521 in a radial direction away from each other of the retaining plate 520.
[0015] The retaining balls 125 are each separably held in two of the retaining grooves 140 of the drive wheel 14 and each abuts lower sections of the extension sections 522 of the retaining plate 520. Each of the elastic retaining elements 126 has two opposite ends, each abutting an upper section of one of the respective extension sections 522 and the main base body 11, elastically pushing the respective extension section 522 downwards. The retaining balls 125, the elastic retaining elements 126, and the extension sections 522 of the retaining plate 520 are configured such that, due to the restricted structure (not shown), they may only move in the up-down direction relative to the main base body 11 and not in a lateral direction relative to the main base body 11. The restricting structure can have various configurations.
[0016] With reference to the Fig. 3 and Fig. 5 The locking module 13 includes a locking plate 131, which is arranged in the main base body 11 and which partially projects from the main base body 11, and two elastic locking elements 132. The locking plate 131 has a central section 133, which allows the adjustment module 12 to extend through it, two arm sections 134, which extend away from each other from the central section 133, two projections 135, which each extend upwards from a distal end of each of the arm sections 134 and project from the main base body 11, and two locking sections 136, which each extend from lower sections of the arm sections 134 and engage separably in teeth 141 of the drive wheel 14. Each of the elastic locking elements 132 has two opposite ends, each of which abuts a corresponding projection 135 and the base main body 11.
[0017] With reference to the Fig. 2 and Fig. 13 The weight plates 2 are stacked one on top of the other on the main base body 11 of the base shell 1. Each of the weight plates 2 has a rod hole 20 formed through its upper and lower surfaces. The rod hole 20 of each of the weight plates 2 has a central section 201 and two diametrically opposed through-groove sections 202, which are in spatial communication with the central section 201. For any two adjacent weight plates 2, each of the through-groove sections 202 of the lower weight plates 2 has a width in a horizontal direction that is greater than the width of each of the through-groove sections 202 of the upper weight plates 2. In other words, each of the through-groove sections 202 of the lowest weight plate 2 has a maximum width, and each of the through-groove sections 202 of the uppermost weight plate 2 has a minimum width.
[0018] With reference to the Fig. 2, Fig. 6 and Fig. The lifting shell 3 comprises a housing 31, which is separably arranged on the main body 11 of the base shell 11, a handle 32, which is connected to the housing 31 and which may be grasped by a user, and a coupling module 33, which is arranged in the housing 31 and is ready to be separably coupled to the drive mechanism 123. The housing 31 defines a retention space 310 therein for arranging the weight plate 2 therein.
[0019] The coupling module 33 includes a rod unit 331, six support pins 332 which are mounted in a diametrical direction on the rod unit 331 and which each correspond in position to the weight plates 2 in order to support the weight plates 2, a positioning plate 334 which is fixedly mounted on the housing 31 and which allows the rod unit 331 to extend rotatably through it, a positioning pin 33 which is mounted in a diametrical direction on the rod unit 331 and which engages separably in the positioning plate 334, and an elastic coupling element 335 which has two opposite ends which each abut an upper end of the rod unit 331 and the housing 31.
[0020] The rod assembly 331 can extend through the rod hole 20 of each of the weight plates 2 and includes a rod sleeve 35 extending in the up-down direction and a rod link 34 extending through the rod sleeve 35 and movable relative to the rod sleeve 35 in the up-down direction. The rod link 34 has six elongated rod passage grooves 341 spaced apart in an axial direction of the rod link 34 and extending in the axial direction, a circular rod passage hole 324 formed in a diametrical direction of the rod link 34 and located above the rod passage grooves 341, and two drive grooves 343 (in Fig. 6 is only a groove shown), which can be separated into the drive column sections 420 (see Fig. 3) of the drive mechanism 123 engage. The rod sleeve 35 has six circular sleeve passage holes 351, which are formed in a diametrical direction of the rod sleeve 35 and which each correspond in position to the rod passage grooves 341 of the rod link 34, a sleeve passage groove 352, which extends in an axial direction of the rod sleeve 35 and which corresponds in position to the rod passage hole 342 of the rod link 34, and two locking grooves 353 (in Fig. 6 is only one groove shown), which are each in spatial communication with the drive grooves 343 of the rod link 34.
[0021] Each of the support pins 332 extends through one of the rod passage grooves 341 of the rod link 34 and a corresponding one of the sleeve passage holes 351 of the rod sleeve 35 to be mounted on the rod assembly 331, and has two opposing end sections extending out of the rod sleeve 35. As the rod assembly 331 moves along its axial direction relative to the weight plates 2, the end sections of each of the support pins 332 pass through the passage groove sections 202 of the rod hole 20 of the corresponding weight plate 2.The rotation of the rod unit 331 about its axial direction relative to the weight plates 2 drives each of the support pins 332 to rotate between a separated position in which the end sections of the support pin 332 are each aligned with the through-slot sections 202 of the rod hole 20 of the corresponding weight plate 20, so that end sections of the support pin 332 pass through the through-slot sections 202 of the rod hole 20 of the corresponding weight plate when the lifting shell 3 is lifted, and a supporting position in which the end sections of the support pin 332 are offset to the through-slot sections 202 of the rod hole 20 of the corresponding weight plate 2, so that the support pin 332 supports the corresponding weight plate 2 when the lifting shell 3 is lifted. As such, the weight of the kettlebell is adjustable (the number of weight plates 2 that move together with the lifting bowl 3 is adjustable).
[0022] The positioning pin 333 extends through the rod passage hole 342 of the rod link 34 and the sleeve passage groove 352 of the rod link 34 to be mounted on the rod unit 331. The positioning plate 334 has a plurality of positioning grooves 301 formed in an upper surface of the positioning plate 334 and arranged around the rod sleeve 35. The positioning pin 333 is ready to engage in a selected pair of the positioning grooves 301, which are diametrically opposed to each other. In one embodiment, the positioning pin 333 is ready to engage in one of the selected positioning grooves 301.
[0023] With reference to the Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 the locking module 13 is ready to function to switch between a locking state (see Fig. 7) and an unlocked state (see Fig. 8) to switch back and forth. When the locking module 13 is in the locked state (the lifting shell 3 is separated from the base shell 1), the projections 135 of the locking plate 131 are each displaced by the elastic locking elements 132 to extend from an upper surface of the base main body 11 of the base shell 1, and the locking sections 136 engage in the teeth 140 of the drive wheel 14, so that the drive wheel 14 cannot rotate relative to the base main body 11 (the rotary knob 121 and the drive mechanism 123 cannot be operated to rotate relative to the base main body 11). When the lifting shell 3 is placed on the base shell 1, the housing 31 presses on the projections 135 of the locking plate 131 to switch the locking module 13 from the locked state to the unlocked state. At this point, the projections 135 retract into the base body 11 and the locking sections 136 are disengaged from the teeth 140 of the drive wheel 14, allowing the drive wheel 14 to rotate relative to the base body 11 (the rotary knob 121 is ready to rotate the drive mechanism 123 relative to the base body 11). Simultaneously, the elastic locking elements 132 are each compressed by the projections 135 to generate a restoring force for switching the locking module 13 back into the locked position when the lifting shell 3 is separated from the base shell 1.
[0024] With reference to the Fig. 3, Fig. 9 and Fig. 10 the retention mechanism 124 is ready to function to switch between a free state (see Fig. 9) and a containment state (see Fig. 10) to switch back and forth. When the retaining mechanism 124 is in the free state, the retaining balls 125 are each held in two of the retaining grooves 140 of the drive wheel 14, and the retaining plate 520 is displaced downwards by the elastic retaining links 126. At this point, the detent balls each abut the inclined surfaces 513 of the sliding column sections 512 of the sliding link 510 and are configured so as not to protrude from the detent holes 422 of the drive column sections 420 of the drive mechanism 123, in order not to engage in the detent grooves 353 of the rod sleeve 35. As such, the rod unit 331 can be freely separated from the drive mechanism 123.
[0025] When the rotary knob 121 is operated to drive the rotation of the drive wheel 14, the retaining balls 125 are pushed upwards by separating elements between the retaining grooves 140 of the drive wheel 14 to push the retaining plate 520 upwards against the displacement of the elastic retaining links 126, thus switching the retaining mechanism 124 into the retained state. At this point, the retaining plate 520 moves the sliding link 510 upwards relative to the main drive section 410, and the detent balls 430 are accordingly pushed by the inclined surfaces 513 of the sliding column sections 512 of the sliding link 510 to protrude from the detent holes 422 of the drive column sections 420 of the drive mechanism 123 in order to engage in the detent grooves 353 of the rod sleeve 35. As such, the rod unit 331 cannot be separated from the drive mechanism 123.Upon further rotation of the drive wheel 14, the retaining balls 125 are configured to engage again in two of the retaining grooves 140 of the drive wheel 14, and the retaining plate 520 is moved by the elastic retaining elements 126 to switch the retaining mechanism 124 back to the free state.
[0026] With reference to the Fig. 6, Fig. 11 and Fig. 12. The positioning pin 333 can be driven by the rod link 34 to move relative to the positioning plate 334 between an engagement position (see Fig. 11) and a release position (see position 12). When the positioning pin 333 is in the engagement position, two opposing end sections of the positioning pin 333 engage in two of the positioning grooves 301 of the positioning plate 334, so that the rod unit 331 cannot rotate relative to the housing 31.
[0027] When the lifting shell 3 is placed on the base shell 1 such that the rod assembly 331 is coupled to the drive mechanism 123, the rod link 34 is pushed by the drive mechanism 123 to move upwards relative to the rod sleeve 35 in order to move the positioning pin 333 upwards relative to the positioning plate 334 into the release position, in which the opposite end sections of the positioning pin 333 are each released from the positioning grooves 301 of the positioning plate 334. At this point, the rod assembly 331 can be driven by the drive mechanism 123 to rotate relative to the housing 31, and the elastic coupling link 335 is compressed by the rod link 34 to generate a restoring force. When the lifting shell 3 is raised (i.e.,(separated from the base shell 1), the elastic coupling element 335 moves the rod link 34 upwards relative to the rod sleeve 35 in order to move the positioning pin 333 to engage in two of the positioning grooves 301 of the positioning plate 334 in order to move the positioning pin 333 back into the engagement position.
[0028] With reference to the Fig. 2, Fig. 8 and Fig. 12. When using the kettlebell according to the invention, the weight plates 2 are stacked on top of each other on the base plate 1, and the lifting plate 3 is arranged on and coupled to the base plate 1, so that the locking module 13 is switched to the unlocked state and the positioning pin 333 is moved to the release position. At this point, the user can turn the rotary knob 212 to obtain a desired configuration of the kettlebell. The rotation of the rotary knob 121 drives the rotation of the drive mechanism 123 and the bar unit 311 to move the support pins 332 between the separated position and the carrying position.
[0029] With reference to Fig. 13 The rotary knob 121 is operated, when coupling two of the weight plates 2 with the lifting tray 3 is desired, to rotate the support pins 332 to a specific angle so that the upper two of the support pins 322 are in the carrying position, as shown in parts (a) and (b) of Fig. 13 shown, and the other four of the support pins are in the separated position, as shown in parts (c), (d), (e) and (f) of Fig. 13 shown.
[0030] Following the aforementioned adjustment, the upper two weight plates 2 move together with the lifting tray 3 when the lifting tray 3 is raised. Once the lifting tray 3 is separated from the base tray 1, the positioning pin 333 moves into the engaged position to prevent the rod assembly 331 from rotating relative to the housing 31 and thus preventing the upper two weight plates 2 from separating from the lifting tray 3. The locking module 13 is switched to the locked position to maintain the position of the rotary knob 121.
[0031] To adjust the number of weight plates 2 that are moved together with the lifting tray 3, the lifting tray 3 can be placed again on the base tray 1 to switch the locking module to the unlocked state and move the positioning pin 333 to the release position to operate the rotary knob 121.
[0032] In summary, the user can operate the adjustment module 12, located on the main base body 11, to configure the arrangement of the lifting tray 3 and the weight plates 2, and to detach the coupling module 33 from the adjustment module by lifting the lifting tray 3. Due to the positioning pin 333, the weight plates 2, which move together with the lifting tray 3, cannot be detached from the lifting tray 3 during exercise. Due to the retaining mechanism 124, the rod unit 331 cannot be detached from the drive mechanism 123 until the support pins 332 are properly positioned.Due to the locking module 13, the setting module cannot be operated after the lifting tray 3 is separated from the base tray 1, in order to allow the position of the rotary knob 121 to properly correspond to the configuration of the arrangement of the lifting tray 3 and the weight plates 2, which are separated from the base tray 1.
