Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a box spring bed comprising a mattress, a box and a reinforcing element.
[0002] Box spring beds differ from normal beds in their special construction. A box spring bed, for example, is described in EP 3 287 045 B1. In a box spring bed, the suspension is not provided by a slatted frame, but by what is known as a box. This results in a two- to three-part structure consisting of a box, mattress, and topper, although the topper is optional. The box forms the basis of the box spring bed and consists of a supporting frame and a spring core. The spring core can be a so-called Bonnell spring core or a pocket spring core. Due to the relatively complex construction compared to conventional beds, which have a slatted frame instead of a box, users of box spring beds often describe the sleeping experience as "like sleeping on clouds."
[0003] With a box spring bed, however, the supporting frame of the box in particular must be robust in order to bear the loads that occur. A corresponding supporting frame, also called a base frame, is known from DE 20 2016 100 024 U1. In particular, the supporting frame must be constructed as a stable unit to ensure that the box spring bed stands securely, but the headboard must also be particularly sturdy. With a box spring bed standing freely in the room, the headboard must absorb the forces that occur, for example, when a person sitting in the bed leans against the headboard. For this purpose, a headboard bracket is known from EP 3 586 681 A1 and a supporting frame with metallic reinforcement elements is known from US 2015 / 0359345 A1.
[0004] To ensure stability, load-bearing elements of the support frame are typically made of a metallic material (see, for example, WO 0165977 A2), and the individual components are optionally covered with a visually appealing material, as described, for example, in EP 3 847 929 A1 and US 2017 / 0105538 A1. However, the production of elements from a metallic material involves high energy consumption and therefore has a high overall CO2 footprint.
[0005] The aim of the invention is to create an ecologically sustainable box spring bed.
[0006] This object is achieved by the subject matter of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the box spring bed are the subject matter of claims 2 to 10.
[0007] The box spring bed according to the invention comprises a mattress, a box, and a reinforcement element. The box comprises a support frame and a spring core supported by the support frame. The support frame comprises a first side part, a second side part, a headboard, and a footboard. At least the headboard is reinforced by the reinforcement element.
[0008] The box spring bed according to the invention is characterized in that the supporting frame and the reinforcing element are made of a bio-based fiberboard.
[0009] A particularly advantageous feature is that the reinforcement element is not made of a metallic material, but rather, like the supporting frame, of a bio-based fiberboard. This creates a particularly sustainable yet stable box spring bed.
[0010] A bio-based fiberboard is preferably a fiberboard made from a regional and renewable raw material. The raw material can be, for example, straw and / or linen and / or flax fiber and / or hemp and / or bamboo and / or a natural fiber. Such materials are characterized by the fact that they do not contain any harmful additives and are both recyclable and compostable.
[0011] Furthermore, the possibility of producing these raw materials regionally in and near Germany results in a particularly low and remarkably good CO2 balance.
[0012] Advantageously, the reinforcing element is a stiffening strut connected to the head part, and / or a stability strut connected to the first side part and the second side part, and / or a support strut connected to the first side part and the second side part, and / or a reinforcing angle plate. The reinforcing angle plate is connected to two adjacent parts selected from the group consisting of: the first side part, the second side part, the head part, and the foot part.
[0013] The stiffening strut is designed to stiffen the headboard. The support strut and the stability strut are designed to stiffen the support frame. The stability struts are arranged between the support struts. The support struts are always the first strut from the headboard or the footboard. Four stability struts are expediently provided between the two support struts. More preferably, the stability struts and the support struts are evenly distributed between the footboard and the headboard. This allows for optimal support of the spring core, ensuring the most even force distribution possible and thus preserving the special sleeping experience of a box spring bed.
[0014] The reinforcement angle plate is designed to fix the alignment of the side panels relative to the footboard and / or headboard. This results in a particularly stable box spring bed made of bio-based fiberboard. Compared to conventional materials of the same thickness, bio-based fiberboards have reduced strength, which can, however, be further supported by targeted stiffeners.
[0015] Advantageously, the stability strut has a width and the support strut has a width. The ratio between the width of the support strut relative to the width of the stability strut is between 1.2 and 5, preferably between 1.5 and 4, most preferably 2. Since the support struts absorb the most force and also stiffen the support frame, they are designed to be particularly wide. The stability struts primarily serve to support the spring core. Consequently, a wider design of the support struts relative to the stability struts is particularly advantageous. Tests have shown that support struts that are twice as wide as the stability struts offer the optimal weight-to-strength ratio for the support frame.
[0016] In a preferred embodiment, a foot is provided that is connected to the support strut. This allows the box to have a floating appearance. Another advantage is that the feet, especially four of them, are not visible from the outside, and you also can't stub your toes on them.
[0017] Preferably, the first side part and / or the second side part has an indentation. The stability strut and / or the support strut engage in the indentation. Alternatively, a support with an indentation is attached to the first side part and / or the second side part, into which the stability strut and / or the support strut engages. In this case, the stability strut and / or the support strut is fixed between the first and / or the second side part and can be particularly firmly integrated into the support frame through a simple fixation, thus stiffening it.
[0018] Advantageously, the first side part, the second side part, the head part, and / or the foot part have a front and a back. Preferably, the reinforcing element on the back is connected to the first side part and / or the second side part and / or the head part and / or the foot part. The reinforcing element is distributed over the back. This increases the flexural rigidity of the fiberboard. The front can thus be free of reinforcing elements, for example, for aesthetic or comfort reasons. In a further preferred embodiment, the front and / or the back are covered with an upholstery cover.
[0019] For the side panels and footboard, the outward-facing surface is considered the front. Conversely, the back is the surface of the side panel or footboard that faces the opposite side panel or headboard. For the headboard, however, the front is the surface facing the footboard, and the outward-facing side of the headboard is therefore considered the back.
[0020] Advantageously, the reinforcement element is screwed and / or glued to the first side panel, the second side panel, the headboard, and / or the footboard. The advantage of this bonding is that no metal screws are used, thus eliminating the need for metal components. This further reduces the carbon footprint. In a further preferred embodiment, the reinforcement element is glued and / or concealed and / or screwed exclusively to the first side panel, the second side panel, the headboard, and / or the footboard.
[0021] Preferably, the rear side, in particular of the head part, extends horizontally and vertically. In a preferred embodiment, the stiffening strut extends along the vertical direction.
[0022] Especially in the case of freestanding box spring beds, headboards that protrude vertically over the mattress and topper absorb the force that occurs when a person leans against the headboard.
[0023] An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the schematic drawings and described in more detail below. They show: Fig. 1 a box spring bed, Fig. 2 an exploded view of the box, the mattress and the topper, Fig. 3 a top view of the back of the headboard, Fig. 4 a perspective view of the supporting frame and Fig. 5 a section of the first side part or the second side part.
[0024] Fig. 1 shows a box spring bed 10 comprising a topper 21, a mattress 20 and a box 30.
[0025] Topper 21 rests on mattress 20. Its core consists of cold foam, gel foam, or viscoelastic foam. Mattress 20 rests on base 30. Mattress 20's core consists of a pocket spring core. Mattress 20 can also comprise two stacked pocket spring cores.
[0026] The box 30 comprises a support frame 31 and a spring core 32. The spring core 32 consists of pocket springs and a cold foam pad. In the version shown, the spring core 32 and the support frame 31 are covered with a cover 37, giving the box 30 a one-piece appearance.
[0027] The support frame 31 comprises a first side part 34a, a second side part 34b, a head part 35 and a foot part 36. The support frame 31 is shown in a perspective view in Fig. 4 shown.
[0028] The headboard 35 has a height H-35 and a width B-35 as in Fig. 3. The height H-35 of the headboard 35 protrudes above the mattress 20 and in particular the topper 21, as shown in Fig. 1 shown.
[0029] The foot part 36 is arranged opposite the head part 35. The first side part 34a and the second side part 34b extend between the head part 35 and the foot part 36. The respective end regions of the first side part 34a and the second side part 34b are fixed to the head part 35 and the foot part 36. Fig. 4, for example, the first side part 34a and the second side part 34b are shown hidden with the head part 35 and additionally glued.
[0030] The first side part 34a, the second side part 34b, the head part 35, and the foot part 36 are made of a bio-based fiberboard. The fiberboard preferably has a wall thickness between 30 mm and 10 mm, preferably between 22 mm and 18 mm. Each part has a front side FS on one side and a rear side RS on the other side.
[0031] The front side FS of the headboard 35 faces the mattress 20. The front side FS of the first side part 34a, the second side part 34b, and the footboard 36 faces away from the mattress 20 and, for example, faces a person standing next to the box spring bed 10.
[0032] As in Fig. 3, the headboard 35 has a reinforcing element 50 on the rear side RS, which is designed as elongated stiffening struts 52. The stiffening struts 52 extend along a vertical direction VR over the entire height H-35 of the headboard 35. The height H-35 of the headboard 35 extends vertically beyond the mattress 20. In Fig. 3 shows four reinforcement struts 52 as an example. Depending on the width of the box spring bed, more or fewer reinforcement struts 52 can be mounted. The reinforcement struts 52 are evenly distributed across the width B-35. The reinforcement struts 52 are glued to the back RS of the headboard 35 over the entire length L-52. The length L-52 can correspond to the height H-35. In a preferred variant, the length L-52 is 10 mm shorter than the height H-35 of the headboard, with the upper end of the reinforcement struts 52 ending 10 mm below the upper edge of the headboard 35, as shown in Fig. 3 can be seen.
[0033] Between the first side part 34a and the second side part 34b, additional reinforcing elements 50 are provided to stiffen the support frame 31. These reinforcing elements comprise stability struts 54 and support struts 56. The stability struts 54 and support struts 56 can be screwed to the first side part 34a and the second side part 34b with screws 60. It is also conceivable for the stability struts 54 and support struts 56 to be glued to the first side part 34a and the second side part 34b or to be additionally inserted into a recess 33 in the first side part 34a and the second side part 34b. The recess 33 can be arranged on the top or bottom side of the respective side part 34a, 34b. Such a recess 33 is illustrated, for example, by the support strut 56 arranged next to the head part 35.
[0034] Furthermore, it is conceivable that an additional support 40 with an engagement 33 is screwed and / or glued to the rear side 33 of the first side part 34a and the second side part 34b. Such a support 40 is shown in Fig. 4 by way of example using the support strut 56 arranged next to the foot part 36 and as a separate component in Fig. 5. The advantage is that the support 40 can be mounted separately and, for example, centrally with the first side part 34a and / or the second side part 34b. The support frame 31 is thereby additionally stiffened, since the support struts 56 are connected to the engagement 33 in a form-fitting and / or force-fitting manner. The reinforcing elements 50, such as the stability strut 54 and the support strut 56, can also be arranged below the upper edge of the first side part 34a, the second side part 34b and the foot part 36. The central arrangement gives the support frame 31 a recess in which the spring core 32 can lie. The upper side of the foot part 36 and the upper side of the stability struts 54, the support struts 56 and the reinforcement angle plate 58 form a plane for this purpose.
[0035] The stability struts 54 are arranged between the support struts 56. As in Fig. 4, a support strut 56 is provided as the outermost reinforcement element 50 and four stability struts 54 are arranged between them. These struts 54, 56 are evenly distributed between the foot section 36 and the head section 35.
[0036] The support strut 56 has a width of B-56, and the stability strut 54 has a width of B-54. In the illustrated embodiment, the width B-56 of the support strut 56 is twice as wide as the width B-54 of the stability strut 54.
[0037] On the underside of the support struts 56, feet 38 are arranged, which are designed to support the box spring bed 10.
[0038] Furthermore, a reinforcing angle plate 58 is provided to fix and reinforce the connection between a side part 34a, 34b and a foot part 36 or between a side part 34a, 34b and a head part 35. This reinforcing angle plate 58 is firmly connected, preferably glued, to both adjacent parts. The reinforcing angle plate 58 is as shown in Fig. 4 shown square and arranged in the upper area of the foot part 36 and the side parts 34a, 34b.
[0039] It is particularly advantageous that the reinforcement elements 50, like the respective parts of the support frame 31—namely, the side parts 34a, 34b, the head part 35, and the foot part 36—are made of a bio-based fiberboard. By eliminating metallic reinforcement elements, the overall CO2 footprint can be significantly reduced.
