Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a threshold for a door or a window, in particular for a sliding door or a sliding window, with a threshold element which is intended for direct or indirect fastening to a building structure.

[0002] The sill elements of thresholds are typically designed as hollow chamber profiles to save weight while ensuring sufficient stability. A stable design of the threshold is particularly important for large and correspondingly heavy doors.

[0003] Typically, a threshold element of this type is connected to the building structure, such as a concrete floor, via mounting brackets or similar components. Additional components such as strips or transition pieces are often screwed to the threshold element. Moisture can penetrate the interior of the hollow profile through the screw holes. This is unfavorable because the moisture can escape into the masonry through the open ends of the hollow profile. To prevent this, the open ends of the hollow profile can be sealed with sealing caps. However, this is relatively complex. Furthermore, reliable sealing is difficult in practice, even with the use of sealing caps.

[0004] Therefore, efforts are being made to prevent moisture from penetrating the masonry at the thresholds of doors or windows in a simple and reliable manner.

[0005] The problem is solved by a speed bump having the features of claim 1.

[0006] According to the invention, the threshold element has a solid material profile made of a closed-cell foam and at least one cover profile resting on the solid material profile.

[0007] Because the material is solid, there are no channels in the threshold element that could absorb moisture and conduct it to the masonry. The closed-cell structure of the foam also prevents moisture from being absorbed by the threshold element. This means that even through screw connections, no moisture can penetrate the threshold and through it into the masonry. There is no need to attach sealing caps to the end faces. The cover profile stiffens the foam part and provides a scratch-resistant surface. In particular, the cover profile can be made of a material with properties that are impossible or difficult to achieve with closed-cell foam. Furthermore, the cover profile can give the threshold element a specific appearance, thus forming a decorative element.

[0008] A threshold according to the invention is particularly suitable for lift-and-slide doors or lift-and-slide windows, where the sash is lifted for sliding and then placed on the threshold to fix it in position. The cover profile can provide a robust support surface for the sash.

[0009] The cover profile can extend along the entire length of the solid material profile to achieve maximum stiffening.

[0010] Depending on the application, the cover profile can rest directly or indirectly on the solid material profile, i.e. with an additional element as an intermediate layer.

[0011] A particularly simple construction is achieved by the threshold element being formed exclusively by the solid material profile and the cover profile. However, the threshold element can also include additional components or assemblies, such as attached transition strips.

[0012] The threshold may have a guide rail arranged on the threshold element for supporting and / or guiding a sliding leaf of the door or window.

[0013] Preferably, an upper side of the solid material profile facing the guide rail is completely covered by the at least one cover profile or by an arrangement of several cover profiles. Thus, the area of the threshold, which is particularly exposed to dirt, moisture, and wear after installation of the sliding door or sliding window, is protected by the cover profile. The foam is not visible to the user after installation of the threshold. Preferably, the end faces of the solid material profile are not covered by a cover profile.

[0014] One embodiment of the invention provides that a front side of the solid material profile adjacent to the top side and a rear side of the solid material profile opposite the front side are also covered by the at least one cover profile or by the arrangement of several cover profiles. This further increases the strength of the threshold element. The underside of the threshold element opposite the top side can be uncovered.

[0015] According to one embodiment of the invention, the at least one cover profile comprises an arrangement of two L-shaped cover profiles, which, viewed in cross-section, encompass opposite corner regions of the solid material profile. This enables a particularly simple covering of the top, front, and back of the threshold element. L-shaped profiles are relatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture.

[0016] The at least one cover profile can be glued to the solid material profile, preferably over its entire surface. This ensures particularly high strength of the threshold element. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one cover profile can be screwed, clipped, nailed, pressed, or pressed onto the solid material profile.

[0017] However, the arrangement of the solid material profile and at least one cover profile can also be designed as a coextrusion element, which makes it possible to dispense with a separate process step for joining the two profiles.

[0018] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the solid profile is made of polyethylene terephthalate foam (PET foam). PET foam is relatively inexpensive and, due to its closed-pore structure, impermeable to liquids. Thus, the masonry is particularly reliably protected from moisture by the impermeable core of the threshold element.

[0019] A special embodiment of the invention provides for the solid profile to be made of recycled plastic. This is particularly advantageous in terms of sustainability requirements.

[0020] The at least one cover profile can be made of extruded polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a fiber-reinforced plastic, metal, or wood. Depending on the application, the material used for the cover profile can be selected independently of the foam of the solid profile. Thus, the threshold element can be given a specific stability, surface finish, or appearance, regardless of the advantages of the foam.

[0021] The at least one cover profile can be made of a material whose coefficient of linear expansion is adapted to the coefficient of linear expansion of a frame element of the sliding door or sliding window, for example, a casing profile. This way, unwanted shear stresses or even distortion of the threshold element can be avoided.

[0022] According to a further embodiment of the invention, the solid material profile and / or the at least one cover profile is made of a material with a similar expansion coefficient to wood. This is advantageous in that a wooden sash frame of the sliding door or sliding window can be offset from the cover profile without the risk of excessive shear stresses due to temperature changes.

[0023] A longitudinal groove can be formed on the at least one cover profile, into which the guide rail is inserted. This facilitates the installation of the threshold. As an alternative to a longitudinal groove, a projection can be provided, for example in the form of a rib or a pin extending the length of the cover profile, onto which the guide rail is mounted. The guide rail is preferably made of metal, for example, aluminum.

[0024] The invention also relates to a door or a window with a threshold and a sash which is movable relative to the threshold, in particular by means of a roller arrangement on the threshold.

[0025] According to the invention, the threshold is designed as described above.

[0026] In particular, the door or window can be designed as a sliding door or as a sliding window, preferably as a lift-and-slide door or as a lift-and-slide window.

[0027] Further developments of the invention can also be found in the dependent claims, the description and the accompanying drawings.

[0028] The invention is described below by way of example with reference to the drawings. Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of a sliding door according to the invention with a floor threshold according to the invention. Fig. 2 shows a speed bump according to the invention in cross section. Fig. 3 shows a solid material profile of the threshold according to Fig. 2 in individual representation. Fig. 4 shows a first cover profile of the threshold according to Fig. 2 in individual representation. Fig. 5 shows a second cover profile of the threshold according to Fig. 2 in individual representation.

[0029] Fig. 1 shows a sliding door 11, which has a horizontally displaceable leaf 15. The leaf 15 comprises a leaf frame profile 17 and a glass element 19 held by the latter. For the displacement of the leaf 15, an arrangement of several carriages is provided, which in Fig. 1 is not recognizable.

[0030] The carriages roll on a guide rail 21 located below the leaf 15, which is attached to a threshold 25. In principle, the guide rail 21 could also be molded directly onto the threshold 25. The guide rail 21 supports and guides the rollers of the carriages in a generally known manner, allowing the leaf 15 to slide along the threshold 25.

[0031] Fig. Figure 2 shows the threshold 25 in a cross-sectional view. As a support for the Fig. 2, a threshold element 31 is provided which extends in a longitudinal direction transverse to the plane of the drawing.

[0032] The threshold element 31 has a solid material profile 33 and two cover profiles 35, 36 resting on the solid material profile 33.

[0033] The solid material profile 33 is made of a closed-cell foam. In particular, it can be a swollen PET foam. For sustainability reasons, the solid material profile 33 can be made of recycled PET foam. As described in Fig. 2 and Fig. As shown in Figure 3, the solid material profile 33 is free of cavities. This means that the closed-cell foam forms a compact block.

[0034] The two in Fig. 4 and Fig. The cover profiles 35, 36 shown individually in Figure 5 are each designed as L-profiles and, viewed in cross-section, encompass opposite corner regions 37, 39 of the solid material profile 33. The two cover profiles 35, 36 preferably extend along the entire length of the solid material profile 33. In this way, both the top side 41 of the threshold element 31 facing the running rail 21 and also the front side 42 and the back side 43 of the threshold element 31 are covered by the cover profiles 35, 36. The cover profiles 35, 36 are composed of flat sections, as shown, and are glued to the solid material profile 33, preferably over their entire surface. The thickness of the flat sections is preferably at least 1 mm and at most 20 mm. The underside 44 of the solid material profile 33 is uncovered in the illustrated embodiment, although this is not mandatory.

[0035] Depending on the application, the cover profiles 35, 36 can be made of extruded polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a fiber-reinforced plastic, metal, or wood. Preferably, the cover profiles 35, 36 are made of a material whose coefficient of linear expansion is similar to that of wood. This prevents shear stresses when a sash 15 with a wooden sash frame profile 17 rests on the floor sill 25.

[0036] At the Fig. 2 right cover profile 36 is formed a longitudinal groove 45 into which the guide rail 21 ( Fig. 1) is inserted.

[0037] In principle, a single C-shaped cover profile could be provided instead of the two L-shaped cover profiles 35, 36. Furthermore, the threshold 25 could comprise several solid material profiles 33 made of closed-cell foam that are connected, in particular glued, to one another. It is preferred that the arrangement and connection of the at least two solid material profiles 33 be selected such that no cavities are formed, but rather the threshold element 31 forms a solid block or core.

[0038] Since the threshold element 31 is not based on a hollow profile construction, even if screws are screwed into the threshold element 31, moisture does not spread inside the threshold 25. A particular advantage here is the closed-cell design of the material, which neither absorbs nor conducts moisture. The foam also has the advantage of being relatively lightweight. The comparatively low rigidity and resistance of the solid material profile 33 is compensated for by the durable cover profiles 35, 36. Furthermore, the cover elements 35, 36 serve as decorative elements that give the threshold 25 a desired appearance, for example, a wood look, at least on the visible side.

[0039] The described threshold element 31 is suitable not only for a sliding door 11, but for any doors, gates and windows, for example for revolving doors.
