Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a dosing device for dosing an additive into a flushing system of a recreational vehicle, a water circulation system for a recreational vehicle comprising the dosing device, and a method for dosing an additive into a flushing system of a recreational vehicle.
[0002] Adding chemical additives to recreational vehicle toilets is important for several reasons. First, the additives help break down waste in the toilet. This prevents unpleasant odors and the occurrence of infections. They also make it easier for users to empty the toilet tanks after use, for example, at a campsite or at home. Furthermore, the additives can help make the wastewater from the recreational vehicle toilet environmentally friendly by changing its composition. Furthermore, the additives can be colored and / or scented, and the entire surface of the toilet bowl can be treated with them, giving the toilet bowl a pleasant appearance and smell for the user.
[0003] The current method involves manually adding the additives to the wastewater tank of a recreational vehicle. However, this could result in either too little or too much additive being added to the tank. Adding too little additive would slow or even prevent the decomposition of the wastewater. On the other hand, adding too much additive to the wastewater would require frequent refills, potentially leaving insufficient additive for the remainder of the trip. Furthermore, excessive chemical additives in the wastewater can cause environmental problems and are unsustainable.
[0004] Alternatively, an additive tank is known to be installed in the recreational vehicle's toilet system, which then releases the additive into the toilet system, for example, when the toilet is flushed. However, the amount of additive released from the tank is difficult to control, and it is difficult to refill or replace the tank when it is empty.
[0005] In view of these problems, it is an object of the present invention to provide an additive dosing device for the flushing system of a recreational vehicle, which delivers the correct amount of additive to the flushing water and at the same time is easy to refill or remove.
[0006] This object is achieved by the dosing device according to claim 1. Preferred modifications thereof are presented in the dependent claims.
[0007] According to a first aspect of the present invention, a dosing device is provided for dosing an additive into the flushing system of a recreational vehicle, such as a motorhome, caravan, or mobile home. The additive can be any chemical substance capable of decomposing feces when added to it. For example, a microbiological substance other than Bronopol can be used as an additive. An additive that complies with environmental guidelines such as RAL UZ8a or comparable can be selected. The additive can additionally contain dyes or fragrances. The additive is dosed, meaning a specific amount is added to the water flowing through the flushing system of the recreational vehicle.A flushing system of a recreational vehicle can be an arrangement of water pipes designed to supply, i.e., flush, a toilet of the recreational vehicle with fresh, i.e., clean, water. The flushing system can be fluidly connected to a fresh water supply and the toilet of the recreational vehicle. The flushing system can be activated by pressing a flush button on the toilet or by corresponding user inputs on a display of the toilet.
[0008] The dosing device comprises a connecting structure for connecting the dosing device to the flushing system. The connecting structure can consist of any type of connecting means or connecting sections designed to establish a connection between the dosing device and the flushing system. For example, the connecting structure can consist of a fluid connection, for example a fluid line with at least one fluid connection, for fluidically connecting the dosing device to the flushing system. Alternatively or additionally, the connecting structure can consist of a mechanical connection, for example a thread or flange, for mechanically connecting the dosing device to the flushing system. Alternatively or additionally, the connecting structure can consist of an electrical connection, for example wiring, for electrically connecting the dosing device to the flushing system.
[0009] The dosing device further comprises a dosing structure for dispensing the additive into the flushing system via the connecting structure. The dosing structure can consist of any type of dosing means or dosing sections designed to supply, i.e., dose, a specific amount of the additive to the flushing system. The dosing structure can consist, for example, of a storage tank for the additive, a dosing means such as a pump that withdraws a specific amount of the additive from the storage tank, and a pipe connection for dispensing the specific amount of the additive to the connecting structure. Of course, other configurations of the dosing structure are also possible with the dosing device of the first aspect.
[0010] The connecting structure is designed to detachably connect the dosing device to the flushing system. The connecting structure thus establishes a reversible connection between the dosing device and the flushing system. This connection can be released without special tools or excessive force.
[0011] The dosing structure is designed to automatically supply a specific amount of an additive to the flushing system. Therefore, the dosing means or dosing sections of the dosing structure are designed to supply the amount of additive to the flushing system in such a way that no operation by the user is required. For example, the dosing structure can comprise an additive reservoir whose opening is dimensioned such that only the amount of additive can be withdrawn therefrom during a specific period of time. Alternatively or additionally, the dosing structure can comprise a dosing means that is designed to only release the amount of additive into the flushing system during a specific period of time. Alternatively or additionally, the dosing structure can comprise a pipe connection that is designed to allow only the amount of additive to flow through during a specific period of time. The amount of additive automatically supplied to the flushing system can be determined by the manufacturer orbe predetermined by the user of the recreational vehicle's flushing system. The amount of additive automatically added to the flushing system may vary, for example, over time, with different flushing systems, and / or depending on the specifics of the flushing system. Alternatively, the amount of additive may remain fixed after it has been initially set.
[0012] Because the dosing device is detachably connected to the flushing system, it can be easily replaced with another dosing device. Furthermore, the dosing device can be removed from the flushing system, refilled, and reconnected to the flushing system. Furthermore, the dosing device can be easily retrofitted into an existing flushing system. By automatically dosing an amount of additive into the flushing system, it is ensured that the flushing system is supplied with the correct amount of additive during each flush. This prevents additive waste or shortages. Furthermore, the additive is automatically dosed into the flushing system, eliminating the need for the user to manually add the additive to the flushing system. This allows for a clean and convenient application of additives. Furthermore, the dosing device improves user-friendliness.
[0013] The connecting structure is preferably designed to fluidically and / or electronically connect the dosing device to the flushing system. For fluidically connecting the dosing device to the flushing system, the connecting structure can comprise an arrangement of fluid lines for establishing a fluid connection with the flushing system. The arrangement of fluid lines can comprise at least one fluid connection. For example, the dosing device can be fluidically connected to the flushing system so that when the flushing system is flushed with clean water, the dosing device can dispense the additive into this water. In order to electronically connect the dosing device to the flushing system, the connecting structure can comprise electronics and cabling for connecting this electronics to an electronic system of the flushing system. For example, the dosing device can be connected via cables to a power source of the flushing system orof the recreational vehicle. In this way, the dosing device can be powered by the recreational vehicle, eliminating the need for an internal power source for the dosing device. Alternatively or additionally, the connecting structure can be electronically connected to a display or other input device of the flushing system. In this way, activation of the flushing system can trigger activation of the dosing device. Thus, no internal activation mechanism of the dosing device is required. The fluidic and / or electronic connection of the dosing device to the flushing system simplifies operation of the dosing device, reduces the number of parts, and saves installation space.
[0014] Preferably, the connecting structure is designed such that the dosing device can be retrofitted into the flushing system. The connecting structure is designed such that the dosing device can be connected to a flushing system already installed in the recreational vehicle. The dosing device can be retrofitted into the flushing system, for example, via access through a service door of the recreational vehicle. Retrofitting the dosing device improves user comfort and applicability of the dosing device.
[0015] Preferably, the connecting structure is designed such that the dosing device can be integrated into the flushing system. The connecting structure is designed such that the dosing device can be connected to a flushing system during installation in the recreational vehicle. Integrating the dosing device into the flushing system allows the additive to be dosed into the flushing system from the outset.
[0016] Preferably, the dosing structure is configured to deliver a predetermined amount of additive into the flushing system. The amount of additive can be predetermined by the flushing system manufacturer. Alternatively or additionally, the amount of additive can also be predetermined by the user. The amount of additive can be predetermined based on specific features of the flushing system and / or external specifications, for example, environmental protection specifications. Dosing a predetermined amount of additive into the flushing system prevents over- and / or under-dosing of the additive and also ensures compliance with the above-mentioned specifications.
[0017] Preferably, the predetermined amount of additive is automatically supplied to the flushing system upon activation of the flushing system. For example, the dosing device can be electronically connected to a controller of the flushing system, such that activation of the flushing system via the controller causes the predetermined amount of additive to be metered into the flushing system. Alternatively or additionally, the dosing device can be mechanically, in particular fluidically, connected to the flushing system, such that mechanical activation of the flushing system causes the predetermined amount of additive to be metered into the flushing system. The automatic supply of the predetermined amount of additive upon activation of the flushing system ensures that the additive is always supplied to the flushing system when the flushing system is activated. In this way, the reliability of the dosing device is improved.
[0018] Preferably, the flushing system is fluidly connected to a toilet of the recreational vehicle and configured to flush it. In this case, the predetermined amount of additive is determined based on at least one of the following: a flow rate of the toilet, a flow rate of the flushing system, a surface area of the toilet bowl, a volume of the toilet bowl, and an amount of additive required in the toilet. The toilet may be equipped with a canister to which the flushing system is connected or into which the additive is poured. Alternatively, the additive may be added directly to the flush water of the toilet or toilet bowl. The flow rate of the toilet may be the ratio of the volume of water flowing in the toilet during a specific flushing time. The flow rate of the flushing system may be the ratio of the volume of water flowing through the flushing system during a specific flushing time. The surface area of the toilet bowl can be the surface of the toilet that is flushed with fresh water or treated with additives during flushing. The volume of the toilet bowl can be the volume intended to hold feces or flush water. The amount of additive required in the toilet can, for example, be the amount of additive required to decompose an average amount of feces in the toilet bowl or in a canister to hold it after flushing. Alternatively or additionally, the amount of additive required in the toilet can be the amount of additive required to ensure sufficient wetting of the toilet bowl with additives to prevent infection. Alternatively or additionally, the amount of additive required in the toilet can be the amount of additive required to ensure sufficient coloring orTo ensure a sufficient odor in the toilet bowl, if the additive is used for this purpose. Determining the predetermined amount of additive based on the toilet parameters mentioned above ensures that the amount of additive meets the toilet's predetermined specifications. This can prevent waste or shortages of additive.
[0019] Preferably, the predetermined amount of additive is variably adjusted by an adjustment device, in particular a pulse-width modulation device. The adjustment device can, for example, be provided with one of the toilet parameters described above or any other parameters of the toilet or flushing system. If one of these parameters changes, i.e., its value changes over time, the adjustment device adjusts the corresponding amount of additive. The variable adjustment of the predetermined amount increases the precision of the dosing process and thus further reduces the risk of waste or shortages of additives.
[0020] Preferably, the predetermined amount of additive is set non-variably. For example, the predetermined amount of additive can be set once by the manufacturer of the dosing device or flushing system and then maintained. Alternatively, the predetermined amount of additive can also be set once by the user of the dosing device and then maintained. The predetermined amount of additive can be set, for example, based on empirical data or personal preference. The non-variable setting of the predetermined amount of additive simplifies the manufacturing of the dosing device and thus reduces its cost.
[0021] The dosing structure preferably comprises a pump, in particular a peristaltic pump, designed to deliver the predetermined amount of additive into the rinsing system. A peristaltic pump is a pump in which the medium to be transported is forced through a tube by external mechanical deformation. A pump is a simple and cost-effective means of transporting a specific amount of material. The use of a pump can therefore reduce the manufacturing costs of the dosing device.
[0022] Preferably, the dosing structure comprises a tank for holding the additive. This allows the dosing device to hold a specific amount of additive, eliminating the need for constant refilling of the additive.
[0023] Preferably, the tank can be removably connected to the dosing structure. This allows an empty tank to be removed and replaced with a full tank. This extends the service life of the dosing device. In this case, the dosing structure comprises a connector for connecting the tank to the dosing structure. The connector can be designed to prevent dripping and overflow of the additive from the tank when the tank is removed or replaced with another tank. The connector simplifies the removably connecting the tank to the dosing structure, thus improving the user-friendliness of the dosing device.
[0024] Alternatively or in addition to the above embodiments, the tank can be refillable with an additive. For example, the tank can have an inlet for refilling the tank. The inlet can be directed towards the outside of the dosing device, thus simplifying refilling the tank. Alternatively or additionally, the tank can be opened towards the outside of the dosing device, for example, via a cap. When refilling the tank, it is not necessary to replace an empty tank.
[0025] According to a second aspect of the present invention, a water circulation system for a recreational vehicle is provided. The water circulation system comprises a flushing system for a toilet of the recreational vehicle, a fresh water supply, and the dosing device according to the first aspect. The dosing device is designed to be fluidically arranged between the flushing system and the fresh water supply. The fresh water supply can be a water tank or the like that is regularly filled with fresh water, for example drinking water. The dosing device can be fluidically connected to the fresh water supply and the flushing system via the connecting structure. This arrangement of the dosing device ensures that the fresh water coming from the fresh water supply is provided with an additive before it enters the flushing system. In this way, it is possible to utilize the technical effects described above that are achieved with the dosing device in the water circuit of a recreational vehicle.
[0026] Preferably, the dosing device according to the second aspect is designed to prevent backflow from the flushing system to the fresh water supply. For this purpose, the dosing device can be equipped with a vacuum breaker. The vacuum breaker can protect the fresh water supply from a negative pressure that would cause water from the dosing device and / or the flushing system to flow back into the fresh water supply. By preventing backflow, the fresh water supply can be kept clean.
[0027] According to a third aspect of the invention, a method for dosing an additive into a flushing system of a recreational vehicle is provided. The method comprises the steps of connecting a dosing device to the flushing system of the recreational vehicle and dispensing the additive into the flushing system via the dosing device. The dosing device and the flushing system can be configured according to the first and / or second aspects. The connecting step comprises releasably connecting the dosing device to the flushing system. Furthermore, the dispensing step comprises automatically dispensing an amount of additive into the flushing system. The connecting step and the dispensing step can be carried out as described under the first and second aspects.
[0028] The above and other features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description of preferred, non-limiting, exemplary embodiments of the present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a schematic front view of a dosing device for dosing an additive into a flushing system of a recreational vehicle according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 2 a schematic rear view of the dosing device from Fig. 1 is; Fig. 3 a schematic perspective view of the dosing device from Fig. 1 is; Fig. 4 a schematic perspective view of the dosing device from Fig. 2 is; Fig. 5a a schematic external view of a connector for connecting a tank to the dosing device of the Fig. 1 to 4; and Fig. 5b a schematic internal view of the connecting piece from Fig. 5a is.
[0029] With reference to the Fig. 1 to 4, a dosing device 10 according to the present invention is described. Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 show the dosing device 10 in a schematic front and rear view. Likewise, Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 shows the dosing device 10 in a corresponding schematic perspective front and rear view. The dosing device 10 comprises a connecting structure 20 and a dosing structure 30. The dosing device 10 is connected to a flushing system 40 (shown only schematically) of a recreational vehicle (not shown) via the connecting structure 20. The flushing system 40 is designed and configured to flush a toilet (not shown) of the recreational vehicle. The flushing system 40 can be actuated electronically, for example, via a display, or mechanically, for example, via a push button.
[0030] The connecting structure 20 comprises a first connection 22, a hose distributor 24, a connecting pipe 26, a vacuum breaker 27 and a second connection 28. In other words, the connecting structure 20 in the illustrated embodiment is formed by the first connection 22, the hose distributor 24, the connecting pipe 26, the vacuum breaker 27 and the second connection 28.
[0031] The first connection 22 is designed to fluidically connect the dosing device 10 to the flushing system 40. The hose distributor 24 is designed to regulate the water flow through the dosing device 10 upstream of the first connection 22. The connecting pipe 26 is designed to supply fluid from a reservoir located upstream of the dosing device 10, such as a fresh water supply, to the first connection 22. Via the second connection 28 (see Fig. 2 and Fig. 4), the dosing device 10 can be fluidically connected to such a reservoir. The vacuum breaker 27 is arranged between the connecting pipe 26 and the second connection 28. The vacuum breaker 27 prevents backflow from the dosing device 10 or the connected flushing system 40 into the upstream reservoir.
[0032] In the illustrated embodiment, the dosing device 10 is detachably connected to the flushing system 40 via the connecting structure 20. Specifically, the first connection 22 of the connecting structure 20 is designed such that the dosing device 10 can be reversibly connected to and detached from the flushing system 40. The detachable connection of the dosing device 10 to the flushing system 40 enables the dosing device 10 to be retrofitted to already installed flushing systems 40.
[0033] The dosing device 10 delivers an additive 36 to the rinsing system 40 via the dosing structure 30. The dosing structure 30 comprises a peristaltic pump 32, a tank 34 for receiving the additive 36, a connecting piece 37, and dosing lines 38. In other words, the dosing structure 30 in the illustrated embodiment is formed by the peristaltic pump 32, the tank 34 for receiving the additive 36, the connecting piece 37, and the dosing lines 38.
[0034] The peristaltic pump 32 is a pump whose tubes are flexible and compressed to transport material through them. The peristaltic pump 32 transports the additive 36 from the tank 34 to the connecting structure 20, for example, to its first port 22. The tank 34 can, for example, be made of any plastic that is so liquid-tight that leakage of the additive 36 is prevented. The additive 36 is a chemical substance that, when combined with feces, is capable of decomposing these feces. The additive 36 can, for example, be a microbiological additive without Bronopol, which complies with the environmental standard RAL UZ84. The dosing device 30 is designed to withdraw a specific amount of the additive 36 from the tank 34 and deliver the specific amount of the additive 36 to the flushing system 40.In particular, the additive 36 is delivered to the flushing system 40 during a flushing operation when the flushing system 40 is flushed with water.
[0035] In the illustrated embodiment, the tank 34 is removably connected to the dosing device 10 via the connecting piece 37. The connecting piece 37 is designed to prevent dripping and overflow of the additive 36 from the tank 34. Thus, it is possible to remove an empty tank 34 without additive 36 from the dosing device 10 using the connecting piece 37 and to connect another tank 34 filled with the additive 36 to the dosing device 10 using the connecting piece 37.
[0036] The connecting piece 37 is determined by the Fig. 5a and Fig. 5b is described in more detail. In Fig. 5a shows the connecting piece 37 in an external view. Fig. 5b is an internal view of the connector 37.
[0037] As in the Fig. 5a and Fig. As shown in Figure 5b, the connecting piece 37 comprises an inlet opening 371, a thread 372, a shoulder portion 373, and an outlet opening 374. The inlet opening 371 is designed such that it can be inserted into the tank 34 and the additive 36 can flow into the connecting piece 37. Furthermore, the connecting piece 37 can be screwed into a housing wall of the dosing device 10 via the thread 372 (see Fig. 1 and Fig. 2). The shoulder portion 373 is designed to rest against the inside of the wall of the dosing device 10. Thus, a fluid-tight connection is established between the tank 34 and the dosing lines 38 via the thread 372 and the shoulder portion 373. The additive 36 exits the connector 37 through the outlet opening 374 and enters the dosing lines 38, as described below.
[0038] As in Fig. 5b, the connecting piece 37 is shaped in such a way that dripping and overflowing of the additive 36 into the housing of the dosing device 10 is prevented. For this purpose, the connecting piece 37 further comprises a drain section 375 and an overflow section 376. The drain section 375 is designed in such a way that only a limited amount of the additive 36 can flow into the inlet opening 371 at a time. The overflow section 376 is partially formed by the inside of the shoulder section 373 and by an opening in the tube connecting the inlet opening 371 and the outlet opening 374, as shown in Fig. 5b. Thus, in a case where no further additive 36 is required within the dosing structure 30, any additional additive 36 coming from the drain section 375 can exit the tube and be collected within the shoulder section 373. Thus, spillage or overflow of the additive 36 from the connector 37 is avoided.
[0039] In this embodiment, the flushing system 40 is fluidly connected to a toilet (not shown) of the recreational vehicle and configured to flush it. The predetermined amount of additive 36 is determined based on at least one of the following: a flow rate of the toilet, a flow rate of the flushing system 40, a surface area of the toilet bowl, a volume of the toilet bowl, and an amount of additive 36 required in the toilet. In the illustrated embodiment, the predetermined amount of additive 36 is determined based on the flow rate of the toilet and the amount of additive 36 required in the toilet. The predetermined amount of additive 36 is fixedly set by the manufacturer of the dosing device 10. Other ways of determining the predetermined amount of additive 36 are also possible within the scope of the present invention.
[0040] The pump 32 is designed to withdraw the predetermined amount of additive 36 from the tank 34, for example, by generating a pressure difference in the dosing line 38. Due to the pressure difference, the predetermined amount of additive 36 is withdrawn from the tank 34 and transported by the pump 32. The pump 32 transports the predetermined amount of additive 36 through the dosing line 38 toward the first connection 22 of the connecting structure 20. A mixture of fresh water and additive 36 is then delivered to the flushing system 40 via the first connection 22. Delivering a predetermined amount of additive 36 to the flushing system 40 has the advantage of preventing waste of additive, i.e., the use of more additive than necessary, or a shortage of additive, i.e., the use of less additive than necessary.
[0041] In the illustrated embodiment, the predetermined amount of additive 36 is automatically dispensed to the flushing system 40 upon activation of the flushing system 40. For this purpose, the dosing device 10 is electronically connected to the flushing system 40, so that actuation of the flushing system 40 activates the pump 32. The pump 32, in turn, withdraws the predetermined amount of additive 36 from the tank 34 and dispenses it to the flushing system 40 as described above. The automatic dispensing of the predetermined amount of additive 36 to the flushing system 40 improves the user-friendliness of the device, since the user does not have to manually dispense the additive 36 into the flushing system 40.
[0042] Once the dosing device 10 is connected to the flushing system 40, it can be secured relative to the flushing system 40 via fastening means 50. The fastening means 50 can, for example, be screw holes or slots for receiving a fastening part, as shown. However, other possible fastening means are also conceivable within the scope of the invention. Alternatively, the dosing device 10 can also be integrated into the flushing system 40 during manufacture. In this case, the fastening means 50 serve to secure the dosing device 10 relative to the flushing system 40 during its manufacture.
[0043] It should be emphasized that the present invention is not limited to the Fig. 1 to 4. Other embodiments are also possible with the dosing device 10 according to the present invention.
[0044] In an exemplary embodiment, the predetermined amount of additive 36 is variably adjusted by an adjustment device. For example, a pulse width modulation device is used to variably determine the amount of additive 36 automatically drawn from tank 34 by pump 32. The adjustment device can adjust the predetermined amount of additive 36 based on specific parameters of purge system 40 or different purge systems that change over time.
[0045] In another exemplary embodiment, the tank 34 is refillable with the additive 36. For this purpose, the tank 34 has an inlet or a closure cap that allows the tank 34 to be opened for refilling.
[0046] In a further exemplary embodiment, the connecting structure 20 is designed to electronically connect the dosing device 10 to the flushing system 40. For this purpose, the connecting structure 20 comprises electrical connections such as cables or lines. The dosing device 10 can be electrically connected to the electronics of the flushing system 40 via these electrical connections. This measure allows the dosing device 10 to be supplied with electrical energy from the flushing system 40, for example, and to be electrically activated upon actuation of the flushing system 40.
[0047] The above-described embodiments are preferred, but merely represent exemplary embodiments of the present invention. Therefore, the described embodiments of the present invention do not limit the achieved scope of protection, as defined by the appended set of claims. Those skilled in the art will be able to conceive various modifications to the above-described configurations without violating the basic concept of the present invention and / or departing from the scope of protection defined by the appended set of claims.
