Abstract
Description
Field of the invention
[0001] The invention relates to a drinking straw for a drinking device for the retronasal intake of an aroma substance, as well as an associated dispensing device for a supplement and a drinking device. State of the art
[0002] There is a growing demand for drinking liquids that, on the one hand, have a pleasant taste, while, on the other, avoiding health risks that can be caused by the ingestion of flavorings or stabilizers dissolved in the liquid. Furthermore, the consumption of excessive calories should be avoided. Therefore, water with a faint fruit flavor has become popular in recent years. However, even this flavored water contains undesirable additives, such as stabilizers and a certain amount of sugar. Many consumers reject such beverages simply because of the high calorie content.
[0003] Since the olfactory sensory impression forms a significant part of the gustatory perception when consuming food and beverages, existing drinking systems attempt to influence the odor perceived while drinking. To this end, aroma elements are proposed that can be attached to a drinking container near the drinking spout, so that the aroma element is in close proximity to the nose of the user, who breathes through their nose while drinking and thus absorbs the scent.
[0004] WO 2019 / 016096 A1 discloses a drinking device for the retronasal absorption of an aroma substance, comprising an air-permeable aroma container that supplies aromatized air to a transport channel for the drinking liquid. In this way, the aroma substance is absorbed retronasally. When drinking, the aroma substance enters the user's mouth together with the drinking liquid and then rises retronasally via the pharynx to the olfactory mucosa, where it is captured by receptors located there and perceived by the user. This takes advantage of the close connection between the senses of smell and taste. The user therefore has the impression of tasting the aroma, although in fact they are only smelling it retronasally.
[0005] A drinking straw for such a retronasal drinking device is described in WO 2022 / 023119 A1.
[0006] In addition to the increasing trend to consume only calorie-free or at least highly reduced-calorie drinks, there is also an increasing consumption of dietary supplements that are supposed to have a positive effect on health or physical constitution.
[0007] Dietary supplements are often taken in large quantities as a single dose so that they don't have to be carried around by the user throughout the day. Users also often forget to take supplements in the morning, meaning they can't catch up if they're away from work during the day. This leads to uneven intake and significant fluctuations in the amount of substances transported in the bloodstream. Description of the invention
[0008] The invention is based on the object of improving a drinking straw for a drinking device for the retronasal intake of at least one flavoring substance in such a way that a user is able to take in a supplement as evenly as possible, and of proposing an associated dispensing device for a supplement and a drinking device.
[0009] This object is achieved by a drinking straw having the features of claim 1, a dispensing device having the features of claim 11, and a drinking device having the features of claim 14. Preferred embodiments follow from the remaining claims.
[0010] A drinking straw for a drinking device for the retronasal intake of at least one flavoring substance comprises a wall, a liquid channel surrounded by the wall, the liquid channel extending from a first end of the drinking straw to a second end of the drinking straw, and at least one dispensing device for at least one supplement, which can be attached to the drinking straw.
[0011] The drinking straw thus fulfills a dual function. On the one hand, it interacts with a drinking device for the retronasal absorption of a flavoring substance or is itself an essential core element of that device. On the other hand, a dispensing device for at least one supplement can be attached to the drinking straw.
[0012] The dispensing device for a supplement can be immersed in the drinking liquid together with the drinking straw during use, so that the drinking liquid dissolves the supplement. The supplement dissolved in the liquid can thus be orally absorbed by a user over a longer period of time during repeated drinking through the drinking straw. At the same time, the drinking straw is part of a drinking device for the retronasal absorption of a flavoring substance, and thus the flavoring substance is absorbed through the drinking straw simultaneously with drinking. However, the flavoring substance is in gaseous form, preferably in the form of small gas bubbles dispersed in the drinking liquid. When drinking, at least one supplement is taken orally and swallowed by the user, while in the throat the gas bubbles containing flavored air separate from the liquid and rise retronasally to the olfactory mucosa, where the at least one aroma substance is perceived retronasally.
[0013] Preferably, the drinking straw further comprises a fastening device on the drinking straw for releasably attaching at least one dispensing device for a supplement.
[0014] A key advantage of the invention is that by spreading the intake of liquid over a longer period of time, a low-dose supplement can be absorbed evenly over this extended period, thereby maintaining a consistent blood level of supplement with consistent liquid intake. Furthermore, suitable supplements can be absorbed largely unnoticed by a user and without the need for separate administration. Supplements within the meaning of the invention are one or more substances selected from the group comprising minerals, vitamins, vitaminoids, caffeine, alcohol, cannabinoids, antioxidants, flavonoids, and proteins. The supplement can also comprise medication, such as painkillers.
[0015] A further advantage of the drinking straw according to the invention is that the simultaneous retronasal absorption of at least one flavoring substance can reduce, change, or neutralize any unpleasant taste that the supplement might have.
[0016] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the drinking straw further comprises a fastening device on the drinking straw for releasably attaching at least one dispensing device for a supplement.
[0017] There are many options for attaching the at least one supplement dispenser. For example, clamping a ring-shaped dispenser, holding a ring-shaped dispenser on a fastening device on the drinking straw, which is designed as a shoulder or protruding collar, or even providing positive connections, such as a fastening device with gripping jaws into which the supplement dispenser can be inserted using a dovetail-shaped fastening attachment.
[0018] In the same way, it is also possible to provide several fastening devices on the drinking straw so that several dispensing devices for the same supplement or different supplements can be attached to the drinking straw.
[0019] The supplement can be attached to the outside of the drinking straw, i.e. on the outside of the wall, on the inside of the wall of the drinking straw, or even at the first end of the drinking straw.
[0020] A design in which the supplement dispensing device is mounted on the inside of the wall can provide a porous element impregnated with the supplement, such as a sponge, which is inserted into the interior of the drinking straw. Similarly, it is also possible to use various drinking straws, the inner sides of which, facing the liquid channel, are each provided with a coating containing one or more supplements. Particularly during the drinking process, when the drinking liquid flows through the liquid channel, the supplement is released from the coating and transported with the drinking liquid.
[0021] According to a further embodiment, the dispensing device for the supplement is mounted below the drinking straw. The dispensing device comprises a holding structure for holding the supplement and a connecting structure designed and positioned to attach the dispensing device to the lower end of the drinking straw. Particularly preferred in this embodiment is the provision of a plug-in connection between the drinking straw and the supplement.
[0022] The provision of several dispensing devices for the same supplement can be used to create a higher concentration of supplement in the drinking liquid, while the provision of several dispensing devices with different supplements can be used to individually combine different minerals to be administered, for example.
[0023] Preferably, at least one dimension of the cross-sectional geometry of the wall of the drinking straw increases continuously or in steps in the direction of the first end of the drinking straw.
[0024] This represents a further, simple alternative of a fastening device for the detachable attachment of at least one dispensing device. In particular, in the case of a dispensing device for a supplement having a geometry that surrounds the drinking straw and is, for example, ring-shaped, simply sliding the dispensing device onto the second end of the drinking straw and moving it in the direction of the first end can lead to automatic fastening, since the continuously or step-like increasing dimension of the cross-sectional geometry of the wall in the direction of the first end results in a positive resting or frictional clamping of the at least one dispensing device onto the drinking straw.
[0025] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the dispensing device comprises a chamber for receiving a supplement in the form of particles, which is surrounded by a retaining element, wherein the retaining element comprises passage openings that are permeable to drinking liquid and are dimensioned to prevent the passage of the supplement in the form of particles.
[0026] The supplement particles can be in powder form or in lumpy form, for example as granules. The choice of a retention element can influence how long it takes for a supplement to dissolve in water. The fluid exchange between the chamber and the surrounding drinking liquid into which the straw is immersed can be influenced by the dimensioning of the openings and their number per unit area. It is important that the openings are dimensioned in such a way that they prevent the supplement from passing through in particle form. Otherwise, the supplement would be sucked through the liquid channel in particle form during the drinking process, which would contradict the basic idea of even dosing on the one hand, but also the idea of immediate absorption into the user's body.
[0027] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the dispensing device comprises at least one supplement-containing pad that can be attached to the wall of the drinking straw, and preferably can be glued to the wall of the drinking straw. A user can thus very easily attach the dispensing device to the drinking straw by simply removing a supplement-containing pad and attaching it to the wall of the drinking straw, similar to commercially available stickers or adhesive labels. This configuration also allows for multiple pads to be attached to the wall of the drinking straw.
[0028] According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, the delivery device comprises a porous element, and preferably an open-cell foam element, wherein the porous element is impregnable with a liquid supplement.
[0029] This design is particularly suitable for supplements that are only available in liquid form. The liquid supplement is applied in a measured amount, for example, using a pipette, to the porous element and penetrates the foam element. If the drinking straw with the porous element impregnated with the liquid supplement is then immersed in a container containing drinking liquid, the supplement is also slowly released into the surrounding drinking liquid in the drinking container.
[0030] The design using a porous element can be provided in addition to one or more dispensing devices for a supplement provided in solid form. Thus, a drinking straw according to the invention can be marketed in the form of a drinking neck system, wherein both a porous element for a liquid supplement and one or more dispensing devices for a supplement in solid form can be attached to the drinking straw.
[0031] Preferably, the at least one dispensing device is substantially annular and extends around the wall of the drinking straw.
[0032] This design is easy to use and intuitively used by the user. Another advantage is that the weight of the straw is well balanced and there is a relatively large surface area around the straw, which is available for dissolving the solid supplement into the drinking liquid.
[0033] This solution, as well as all the solutions described above with regard to the design of a supplement dispensing device, can be combined with other supplement dispensing devices. For example, when using a substantially ring-shaped dispensing device, several rings can be very easily slipped onto the drinking straw. If a fastening device is provided on the drinking straw, for example in the form of a collar or a shoulder in the outer contour to hold a first ring, several further ring-shaped dispensing devices can be slipped onto the drinking straw from the second end of the drinking straw. These further ring-shaped dispensing devices rest on the adjacent ring, which is arranged in the direction of the first end, and are thus prevented from moving towards the first end.
[0034] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the drinking straw comprises a positioning device near the second end of the drinking straw for attaching and positioning the drinking straw to a head part of a retronasal drinking device.
[0035] This embodiment is advantageous when the drinking straw is part of a head section of a retronasal drinking device, and in particular when exact positioning of the drinking straw relative to the head section of the retronasal drinking device is important. This can be the case, for example, when the drinking straw has a passage opening for flavored air, through which flavored air in a flavor container is introduced into the liquid channel. In the simplest case, the positioning device can be a positioning collar that defines the distance the drinking straw is to be inserted at the second end into a suitable receiving geometry on the head section. However, the positioning device of the drinking straw can also consist in the drinking straw having an outer cross-sectional geometry that deviates from a circular shape near the second end. This can be used to ensure that the drinking straw can only be inserted into a retronasal drinking device in a relative rotational position relative to the head part.
[0036] According to an alternative, preferred embodiment, the drinking straw further comprises a connecting device for detachably attaching a flavor container to the drinking straw. In this case, a flavor container can be attached directly to the drinking straw.
[0037] A dispensing device according to the invention for a supplement comprises a fastening geometry for attachment to a drinking straw according to the invention and a receiving space for at least one supplement in lumpy or liquid form.
[0038] According to a first preferred design of the dispensing device according to the invention, the fastening geometry comprises at least one retaining projection which is suitable for forming a positive connection with a correspondingly shaped fastening device on the drinking straw.
[0039] According to a second preferred design of the dispensing device according to the invention, the fastening geometry comprises at least one contact surface which is suitable for forming a frictional connection with a correspondingly arranged and shaped second contact surface on the drinking straw.
[0040] A drinking device according to the invention for the retronasal intake of at least one aroma substance and for the oral intake of at least one supplement comprises a receptacle for drinking liquid and a head part which can be detachably fastened to the receptacle, wherein an aroma container through which air can flow can be attached to the head part for releasing at least one aroma substance to the air flowing through, and a drinking straw according to the invention can be detachably fastened to the head part. Short description of the drawings
[0041] The invention is described below purely by way of example with reference to the accompanying figures, in which Fig. 1 shows a first embodiment of a drinking straw according to the invention; Fig. 2 shows a second embodiment of a drinking straw according to the invention; Fig. 3 a third embodiment of a drinking straw according to the invention; Fig. 4a a fourth embodiment of a drinking straw according to the invention; Fig. 4b represents a possibility to store pads for dispensing a supplement; and Fig. 5 shows an example of a drinking device using the drinking straw according to Fig. 1 represents. Ways to implement the invention
[0042] In the following figures, the same elements are designated by the same reference numerals.
[0043] In all of the following forms, the supplements can be pharmaceutically active substances such as painkillers, but also vitamins, vitaminoids, caffeine, alcohol, cannabinoids, antioxidants, flavonoids, proteins or minerals, as well as combination supplements from the above-mentioned groups, such as multivitamin preparations enriched with minerals.
[0044] With regard to vitamins, particularly suitable supplements are sodium ascorbate (vitamin C), L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), DL-α-tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), nicotinamide, retinoacetate (vitamin A), cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), thiamine mononitrate or riboflavin.
[0045] Examples of proteins include vegan pea protein isolate or chickpea protein isolate.
[0046] The following mixtures of substances are particularly suitable as supplements from multivitamin compositions: - Vitamin C, vitamin D and zinc - L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), zinc citrate, ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) - Calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, l-ascorbic acid, potassium chloride, iron gluconate, d-α-tocopheryl acetate, nicotinamide, manganese gluconate, copper gluconate, sodium molybdate (molybdenum VI), calcium d-pantotenate, zinc oxide, retinyl acetate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, cholecalciferol, thiamine hydrochloride, riboflavin, phylloquinone, chromium(III) chloride, pteroylmonoglutamic acid (folic acid), D-biotin, potassium iodide, sodium silenite, cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12)
[0047] Fig. 1 shows a drinking straw 10 according to the invention with a wall 12 that encloses a liquid channel 14. In the illustration according to Fig. 1, the drinking straw consists of a first section 18 and a second section 20, which are arranged at an angle to each other. Similarly, the drinking straw can also be linear in its longitudinal extension or, instead of the rigid bending area between the first section 16 and the second section 20, can have an intermediate section that allows a variable angle to be set between the first section 16 and the second section 18.
[0048] The drinking straw after Fig. 1 has a first end 20 and a second end 22.
[0049] The wall of the drinking straw Fig. 1 has a cross-sectional shape whose outer dimensions increase, at least in the second section 18, toward the first end 20. In other words, either the wall 12 becomes increasingly thicker toward the first end 20, or the wall remains the same thickness and the liquid channel 14 has a larger cross-sectional area toward the first end 20. This measure serves to attach at least one dispensing device for a supplement to the drinking straw 10.
[0050] In the embodiment according to Fig. 1, two dispensing devices 24a, 24b are provided on the drinking straw, each of which is ring-shaped and is pushed onto the drinking straw 10 from the second end. The ring-shaped dispensing devices 24 have a sufficiently dimensioned cross-sectional geometry of the space enclosed by the ring, which allows the dispensing devices 24a, 24b to be pushed on from the second end and also over the kink between the first section 16 and second section 18. However, further movement of the dispensing device 24a towards the first end is not possible, since the continuously increasing cross-sectional dimensions of the wall 12 in the direction of the first end 20 of the drinking straw 10 cause the dispensing device 24a to sit clamped on the drinking straw 10.The dispensing device 24b, in turn, cannot be moved further in the direction of the first end 20 because it is in contact with the adjacent first dispensing device 24a and rests on it.
[0051] In the embodiment according to Fig. Two dispensing devices 24a, 24b are shown in Figure 1. However, additional dispensing devices for a supplement 24c, 24d can also be pushed onto the drinking straw 10 in the same way. In this way, individual, different supplements can be combined with each other, which can be distinguished, for example, by a different color and thus be easily identifiable for the user.
[0052] If several dispensing devices 24a, 24b, 24c, 24d are attached to the drinking straw, these can each contain different supplements, but two or more dispensing devices can also contain the same supplement.
[0053] The dispensing devices each comprise an annular base body 26, which serves as a carrier substance for a supplement that is soluble in drinking liquid and, after the drinking straw 10 is immersed in a container with drinking liquid, slowly releases the respective supplement or the mixture of different supplements by dissolving them in drinking liquid.
[0054] In Fig. 1, a positioning collar 28 is shown on the drinking straw near the second end 22, which serves to fix the drinking straw 10 in the head part of a drinking device for the retronasal intake of an aroma substance, as shown schematically in Fig. 5 is shown.
[0055] Depending on the design of the head part of the drinking device, the drinking straw 10 can Fig. 1 may additionally be provided with an opening (not shown) in the wall 12 if the aim is for air enriched with aroma substance in an aroma container to be introduced through the wall 12 of the drinking straw 10 into the liquid channel 14 for drinking liquid.
[0056] When using the drinking straw, a user draws in a liquid containing a supplement, either through the straw itself or through a mouthpiece connected to the straw. This liquid is swallowed by the user, so that the supplement is partially absorbed through the oral mucosa, but primarily in the stomach and intestines. At the same time, through the coupling with the head of a drinking device for retronasal absorption of an aroma substance, air enriched with the aroma substance is absorbed into the drinking liquid in the form of fine gas bubbles, separating from the liquid in the throat and being perceived retronasally as a flavor component.
[0057] The embodiment according to Fig. 2 differs from that according to Fig. 1 merely in that instead of an annular dispensing device, a dispensing device 24 is attached to the drinking straw 10, which dispensing device has a cage-like structure enclosing a chamber 34 in which a supplement 30 is contained in lumpy form. Depending on the grain size and grain size distribution of the supplement, the dispensing device 24 can merely comprise slots 32 in a retaining element 36 as in the embodiment according to Fig. 2, through which the water can penetrate into the chamber 34, in which the supplement is located in lumpy form. However, if the supplement has a very small average particle size or a grain size distribution that includes a significant proportion of particles with very small particle diameters, a fabric layer with passage openings of a defined size can be provided as the retaining element 46 instead of the slits 34 in order to prevent the supplements from undesired escape from the chamber 34.
[0058] The functioning of the drinking straw according to Fig. 2 is identical to that according to Fig. 1. After immersion in a drinking vessel filled with drinking liquid, the drinking liquid begins to enrich with supplement that has been dissolved by the drinking liquid, so that a user ingests supplement dissolved in drinking liquid as soon as it has begun to dissolve in the drinking liquid.
[0059] The embodiment according to Fig. 3 differs from that according to the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 in that the delivery device 24 is a body 36 made of carrier material which can be impregnated with a supplement in liquid form.
[0060] The carrier material can preferably have an open-cell foam structure, to which, as in Fig. 3 is shown schematically, supplement in liquid form can be applied precisely. This is shown in the Fig. 3 is schematically illustrated using a drop 38 of supplement. Individual drops 38 of supplement can be dispensed by a user in a suitable manner, for example, via a dropper bottle or a pipette 40. Similarly, several different supplements can be used, which are applied one after the other in precisely dosed form to the body 36 of carrier material, penetrate it, and are retained in the porous body by the capillary effect.
[0061] After the body 36 made of carrier material has been individually impregnated by the user, the drinking straw 10 can be immersed in drinking liquid and in the Fig. 1 to 3. The body 36 of carrier material slowly releases the supplement or mixture of supplements into the surrounding drinking liquid.
[0062] The embodiment according to Fig. 4a differs again from the previous embodiments in the form of the dispensing device 24. In this embodiment, pads 42 are used that can be attached to the wall 12 of the drinking straw 10, for example, by having a self-adhesive backing. After the drinking straw is immersed in the drinking liquid, a supplement contained in a pad 42 is slowly released into the drinking liquid. The embodiment according to Fig. 4a thus differs from that according to the preceding embodiments only in the form of the design of the dispensing device 24. The combination of different pads 42 with different supplements, but also the dosing of a single supplement by using several pads, each with the same supplement, is just as possible in this embodiment as in the preceding embodiments.
[0063] In Fig. Figure 4b illustrates how a user can store various pads. For this purpose, several pads 42a, 42b, 42c can be attached to a carrier film 44 and, similar to stickers, can be individually peeled off by a user and then applied to a drinking straw. This allows a user to easily adjust the type and dosage of supplements according to their individual needs.
[0064] The use in a drinking vessel for drinking liquid corresponds to that already described in the embodiments according to Fig. 1 to 3.
[0065] In Fig.5 shows a drinking device 50 for the retronasal intake of an aroma substance, as described, for example, in WO 2020 / 126210 A1. The drinking device 50 has a container 52 for drinking liquid and a head part 54 that can be attached to the container 52 for drinking liquid and in which the drinking straw 10 can be attached. An aroma container 56 can also be attached to the head part 54, into which ambient air flows during the drinking process, is charged with aroma substance, and is then either supplied to the drinking liquid in the form of air bubbles and dispersed therein, or is conveyed separately from the drinking liquid toward a drinking end of the drinking device 50.
[0066] If flavored air is to be introduced into the drinking liquid, a flow channel for flavored air provided in the head part 54 can be introduced into the liquid channel 14 of the drinking straw, but can also open into a liquid guide in the head part 54 above the drinking straw, i.e. between the second end 22 of the drinking straw 10 and a mouthpiece of the drinking device 50. However, if the flavored air is to be introduced into the liquid channel 14 of the drinking straw 10, an air opening (not shown) is provided in the drinking straw, which extends through the wall 12 of the drinking straw and, when the drinking straw 10 is attached to the drinking device 50, is positioned such that it is in flow connection with the air flowing through the flavor container.
[0067] When the drinking straw 10 is used in a drinking device 50 for the retronasal absorption of an aroma substance, the supplement dissolved in the drinking liquid is absorbed with the drinking liquid and swallowed, while the aromatized air entering the throat of a user in the form of fine air bubbles separates from the drinking liquid in the throat and rises retronasally to the olfactory skin, where the aroma substance is perceived as a taste.
