Abstract

A method for operating an electrochemical cell (1) for binding carbon dioxide (CO2), wherein the electrochemical cell (1) has a multi-layered structure comprising a first electrode (2) and a second electrode (3) separated from each other by a separator or a membrane (4), and wherein the multi-layered structures are enclosed by chamber walls (5) that surround a process chamber (6), wherein, to reduce and / or enlarge the process chamber (6), at least one chamber wall (5) is moved towards or away from the other chamber wall (5). Furthermore, the invention relates to an electrochemical cell (1), in particular for binding carbon dioxide (CO2), which can be operated according to a method according to the invention.
