Abstract

A method (100) for initially filling or inerting a fuel cell system (2) with hydrogen gas (34) comprises measuring at least one temperature (T) at or in the fuel cell system (2); comparing the at least one measured temperature (T) with at least one predetermined temperature threshold (TS); if the at least one measured temperature (T) is equal to or greater than the at least one predetermined temperature threshold (TS): filling or inerting the fuel cell system (2) with hydrogen gas (34); and if the at least one measured temperature (T) is less than the at least one predetermined temperature threshold (TS): starting a heating routine (200) to heat the fuel cell system (2); and after completion of the heating routine (200), filling or inerting the fuel cell system (2) with hydrogen gas (34).
