Description

[0001] The invention relates to a recuperative burner base unit having the features of the preamble of claim 1.

[0002] Such a recuperative burner base unit forms the basic building block of a recuperative burner, which is then supplemented in particular with a burner tube and a burner nozzle arranged therein.

[0003] EP 4 105 552 A1 discloses a recuperative burner base unit with a recuperator having a heat transfer body with a complex geometric structure in which the heat exchange surfaces between two internal flow channels for air and exhaust gas are maximized. This geometric structure can only be manufactured using additive manufacturing processes. The heat transfer body leads to significantly improved heat exchange performance. However, the pot-shaped burner base, with its connections and flow paths for at least two media—namely, burner air and exhaust gas—is very large in volume, making its one-piece production using an additive manufacturing process correspondingly time-consuming and cost-intensive.

[0004] The object of the invention is therefore to enable a more cost-effective production of a recuperative burner base unit.

[0005] This object is achieved by a recuperative burner base unit having the features of claim 1.

[0006] An essential element of the recuperator burner base unit according to the invention is a plate-shaped burner base element as a component of the burner base, which comprises at least one air duct opening for connecting the burner air connection to one of the flow channels in the recuperator, at least one exhaust gas duct opening for connecting to the exhaust gas connection, and at least one opening for connecting to the fuel gas connection. The recuperator is integrally connected to the burner base element to form a single unit, with the flow paths in or on the recuperator merging directly into the openings of the burner base element. Simply put, the invention provides for the recuperator to be printed onto a mounting surface on the burner base element, i.e., an additive manufacturing process, such as selective laser melting (SLM), is used.

[0007] The plate-shaped burner base element, which can be manufactured easily and cost-effectively with the necessary openings, replaces the printer base in a 3D printer or is placed on top of it with a support plane. To ensure the successful layered construction of the recuperator on the burner base element, at least one support surface is formed on the front side, and a support plane parallel to the support surface is present or can be created on the rear side.

[0008] The build surface can be the entire front side at most, and at least a narrow area where the coating is to be applied, while the rest of the front side remains untreated. Multiple build surfaces can also be provided, either in one plane or arranged parallel to each other with an offset in the Z-coordinate direction.

[0009] On the back of the burner base element, a support plane is formed that is plane-parallel to the mounting surface. This can be achieved, for example, by milling or grinding the back completely parallel to the mounting surface. However, three support points on the back, located in a plane that is plane-parallel to the mounting surface, are also sufficient.

[0010] Finally, it can also be provided to combine the burner base element with at least one adapter element and to make it placeable in an additive manufacturing machine in such a way that the mounting surface is plane-parallel to the machine bed or another base plane of the manufacturing machine.

[0011] The burner base is the part that is located outside a furnace wall when installed, while the recuperator and burner tube are guided through the furnace wall and protrude into the furnace.

[0012] In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the burner base is formed solely by the burner base element and the connecting pieces attached thereto for the fuel gas, exhaust gas, and burner air lines. The elimination of any additional housing components on the burner base enables a particularly cost-effective production of a self-contained burner base unit.

[0013] However, it is also possible to use the plate-shaped burner base element only as an intermediate part to be arranged close to the furnace wall, to which further modules for the fuel gas, exhaust gas and air guidance are connected.

[0014] Particular advantages in terms of manufacturing costs arise from the fact that the dimensions of the burner base element are optimized so that several recuperative burner base units can be manufactured side by side in a single operation using an additive manufacturing machine. For this purpose, the burner base element is rectangular or, in particular, square, with the distances between the edges approximately equal to the extension of the heat transfer body in this direction.

[0015] For example, if the heat transfer body has a cylindrical envelope, the inscribed circle of a square burner base element essentially corresponds to the diameter of the envelope, plus a small allowance if necessary. This allows several burner base elements to be placed close together, and the recuperators can be built on them tightly using 3D printing.

[0016] Furthermore, hexagonal burner base elements are possible, so that several rows of base units can be manufactured offset from each other in order to make even better use of the floor space in the additive manufacturing machine.

[0017] In terms of space optimization, it is particularly advantageous if - there is a material connection between the mounting surface and the inner tube of the recuperator along a closed inner line, within which at least one recess for the passage or connection of the at least one fuel gas line is formed on the burner base element; - there is a material connection between the mounting surface and the recuperator along a first closed outer line and - the at least one exhaust gas passage opening is arranged between the inner line and the first outer line and the at least one air passage opening is arranged between the first and the second outer line.

[0018] The closed lines on which the additive manufacturing takes place automatically create closed channels that lead into the recuperator without the need for any other seals.

[0019] Alternatively, the air duct opening can be located outside the outer line and the exhaust gas duct opening can be located between the inner and outer lines.

[0020] It can also be advantageous if the inner line runs parallel to the outer line. This creates a flow channel between them, e.g., for the passage of burner air, which has a constant cross-section across its circumference.

[0021] In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the inner and outer lines are circular. This results in a simple and space-saving configuration.

[0022] In order to minimize the footprint of the burner base element and yet be able to provide larger flow cross-sections for burner air and exhaust gas, a preferred embodiment of the recuperative burner base unit provides: - that the inner line is circular; - that the distance between the inner line and the outer line is, in at least one section, smaller than the diameter of the gas passage opening provided there; - that the distance between the inner line and a section of the outer line at the gas passage opening corresponds at least to the diameter of the gas passage opening and - that the outer line in the section is curved around an edge region of the gas passage opening and is connected to the curved section by further tangential sections.

[0023] In particular, it can be provided that the outer line at the other gas feedthrough opening in the burner base element runs in a curved section and parallel to its circumferential line and is guided towards the inner line.

[0024] The convergence of the inner and outer lines can even go so far that the outer line extends to the inner line in one section near the gas passage opening and connects to it, interrupting the flow channel there and preventing annular flow. This reduces crossflow in the recuperator and forces the flow in the longitudinal direction of the flow channel leading through the recuperator.

[0025] A further simplification of the space-optimized layout on the burner base element is achieved by arranging both gas feedthrough openings, i.e. the exhaust gas feedthrough opening and the air feedthrough opening, on the same pitch circle, with the center of the pitch circle being in the center of the annular inner line.

[0026] The central surface area within the inner line preferably serves to carry at least one fuel gas line, in particular two fuel gas lines, e.g. for methane and hydrogen, in order to be able to operate the burner with different energy sources or in mixed operation.

[0027] In addition, further passages can be provided in this surface area, for example an opening for a bypass line and / or for an ignition electrode and / or for a sensor element for flame monitoring.

[0028] It is particularly advantageous to form the area within the inner line in an insert element that can be removed from the burner base element, so that lines attached to it can be pulled out of the burner from outside the furnace.

[0029] In addition to the two self-contained walls provided in a preferred embodiment, further peripheral walls may be formed along further peripheral lines.

[0030] For example, the heat transfer body of the recuperator can be provided with a materially bonded outer shell, and an additional peripheral line can be provided outside the outer line, at which the outer shell is materially bonded to the burner base element.

[0031] It may be advantageous if a pair of peripheral lines is provided outside the outer line, at which the recuperator is additionally connected to the burner base element by a material bond, and at least one media feedthrough opening is provided between the peripheral lines in the burner base element. A further flow channel is formed between the pair of peripheral lines, through which, for example, a thermal oil can be fed into the recuperator.

[0032] The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiment shown in the drawings. The figures show in detail: Fig. 1 a recuperative burner base unit in perspective view; Fig. 2 a burner base element in perspective view looking towards the front; Fig. 3 a recuperator in a sectional view through the connection area with the burner base element; Fig. 4 the recuperator burner base unit in perspective view from behind; Fig. 5 the burner base element in perspective view of the rear; Fig. 6 the recuperator burner in perspective view of the rear side from the rear; Fig. 7 a section through the rear part of the recuperator burner; Fig. 8 a first embodiment of a grid-shaped production arrangement in plan view and Fig. 9 a second embodiment of a grid-shaped production arrangement in plan view.

[0033] In Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a recuperator burner base unit 100. This comprises, as a one-piece unit, a burner base 1, of which only a plate-shaped burner base element 10 is visible, and an adjoining recuperator 20, which is integrally connected to the burner base element 10. The connection is made by a transition body 22 on the recuperator 20, which is adapted to the geometry of the burner base element 10 and the connections, bores, and channels contained therein, so that the transition body 22 and the remaining parts of the recuperator 20 can be printed directly onto a flat mounting surface 10.3 on the front side 10.1 of the burner base element 10 using an additive manufacturing process. For this purpose, the contour of the transition body 22 at the connection to the mounting surface 10.3 on the burner base element 10 is specially designed.

[0034] As in Fig. 1, a first gas passage opening 13 is recessed on the transition body 22, i.e., the outer wall of the transition body 22 is concave there to leave the entire cross-section of the gas passage opening 13 free. Preferably, an exhaust line is connected to the first gas passage opening. This allows exhaust gas to be extracted directly from the combustion chamber through the burner base element 10.

[0035] The recuperator 20 is adjoined above the transition body 22 by the heat transfer body 21, of which only a cylindrical outer wall is visible. Inside, the heat transfer body 21 has a complex geometric structure that maximizes the size of the heat exchange surfaces between the flow channels for air and exhaust gas, and which can only be manufactured using an additive manufacturing process. Exhaust gas is initially guided from the combustion chamber into the heat transfer body 21 through the exhaust inlet openings 28 and exits at the bottom of the transition body 22, from where it is then discharged through the exhaust passage opening 13.

[0036] Burner air is guided through another gas passage opening in the burner base element 10 into another flow channel in the heat transfer body 21, where it is directed countercurrently to the exhaust gas flow and heated by it. The burner air exits at an annular gap 25, where it acts as a jet pump, thereby promoting the intake of exhaust gas into the exhaust gas inlet openings 28. In the illustrated embodiment, the heat transfer body 21 has an inner tube 26 with an internal cavity 27.

[0037] Fig. Figure 2 shows the burner base element 10 in a perspective view, looking at the front side 10.1. At least one inner area has a flat surface, which serves as a mounting surface 10.3 for the additive manufacturing process. The contour of the mounting surface 10.3 can coincide with an outer line 24 of the outer wall of the transition body 22 or can be larger. The inner tube 26 of the recuperator 20 (see Figure 2) Fig. 1) adjoins an inner line 23 on the burner base element 10.

[0038] In the preferred embodiment shown, the burner base element 10 has a special hole pattern: - A first gas passage opening 13, formed by a through-bore, serves as an exhaust gas passage opening in the illustrated embodiment. It is located outside the outer line 24. - Another gas passage opening 14 is located between the inner line 23 and the outer line 24 and serves as an air passage opening. - Additional gas passage openings in the burner base element 10 form fuel gas channels 11, 12. These serve to supply methane and hydrogen selectively or simultaneously into the combustion chamber. The fuel gas channels 11, 12 begin in bores formed in the side surfaces of the burner base element 10 and open within the inner line 23 at the front side 10.1. - Additional through-holes 15, 16 allow the passage of ignition elements and / or sensors into the inner tube 26 of the heat transfer body 21 or can serve as a bypass line for fresh air to temporarily bypass the air passage through the heat transfer body 21. - Mounting holes 18 are located in corner areas outside the outer line 24. They serve to connect the recuperator burner base unit 100 to a furnace flange. - Further fastening holes 19 are located within the inner line 23. They serve to fasten a burner insert element which carries at least one fuel gas line, to the mouth of which a burner nozzle is attached.

[0039] The inner line 23, which encloses the holes 15, 16, 17, and 18, is circular in the illustrated embodiment. The outer line 24 is circular only in sections 24.1 and runs parallel to the inner line 23 only in those sections 24.1, which run near the outer mounting holes 18.

[0040] At the exhaust gas passage opening 13, the outer line 24 is concave in a section 24.2 and offsets inward. It even connects to the inner line 23 at certain points. In a diametrically opposite section 24.3, the outer line runs outside around the gas passage opening 14 for the burner air, which is located inside between the inner line 23 and the outer line 24. There, the distance between the inner line 23 and the outer line 24 is increased to the diameter of the gas passage opening 14.

[0041] By contacting section 24.2 with the inner line 23, a two-part air duct 29 is formed. This is particularly important in Fig. 3, where the recuperator 20 is shown in a sectional view at the transition to the burner base element 10.

[0042] The beak-shaped section 24.3 at the bottom left runs around the gas passage opening 14. From there, tangential sections 24.4 extend on both sides to the circular-arch sections 24.1. The concave section 24.2 is located between the convex sections 24.1. The air duct 29 is formed between the inner line 23 and the outer line 24. The interruption at section 24.2 divides it into two parts. This prevents annular flow in the air duct 29, and turbulence is avoided. Rather, the division promotes a vertical flow into the heat transfer body 21.

[0043] Fig. 4 shows a rear side 10.2 of the burner base element 10, wherein the inner and outer lines 23, 24, which are actually located on the Fig. 4, are mirrored onto the back 10.2 for illustrative purposes only.

[0044] In the following details, the hole pattern of the openings corresponds to the hole pattern on the front (cf. Fig. 2) agree: - the gas passage opening 13 outside the outer line 24; - the gas passage opening 14 between inner line 23 and outer line 24; - Holes 15, 16 as openings for the passage of, for example, ignition elements and / or sensors; - Mounting holes 18 in corner areas outside the outer line 24 and - Mounting holes 19 within the inner line 23.

[0045] The hole pattern is only different with regard to the fuel gas channels 11, 12. At the rear 10.2, the fuel gas channels 11, 12 begin outside the outer line 24 and end at the front 10.1 within the inner line 23 (cf. Fig. 2). The cross connection is made through holes that are drilled and sealed on the side surfaces of the burner base element 10.

[0046] On a circle defined by the dotted line in Fig. 4, the gas passage opening 13 and the gas passage opening 14 are located. The center of this arrangement coincides with the center of the circular inner line 23.

[0047] Fig. 5 shows a recuperative burner 101 constructed on the previously described recuperative burner base unit 100.

[0048] A combustion chamber tube 40 is connected to the recuperator 20. An eductor 42 is formed at the transition between them and is mechanically connected to the recuperator 20 via connecting elements 44. An outwardly open annular gap opening 43 is formed between them, allowing a portion of the exhaust gas to be drawn back into the combustion chamber tube 40 from the outside for post-combustion. The other portion passes through the exhaust gas inlet openings 28 into a flow channel in the heat exchanger 21 of the recuperator 20.

[0049] The recuperator burner base unit 100 is further connected to a furnace flange 50 in order to be able to attach the recuperator burner 101 to a furnace wall.

[0050] Connection pieces are inserted directly into the openings in the recuperator burner base unit 100 for: - two fuel gas connections 32, e.g. to supply the burner with methane and / or hydrogen; - a burner air connection 33; - an exhaust gas extraction connection 34; - an ignition electrode 36 and - a feed-through pipe 35 for a flame image monitoring sensor, which can also be used as a bypass line for burner air in order to supply fresh air directly to the burner nozzle during a warm-up phase and to temporarily bypass the afterburning of exhaust gas.

[0051] Fig. Figure 6 shows the self-contained burner 101 in a perspective view of the rear side, taken diagonally from behind. It can be seen that all connecting elements for the fuel gas connections 31, 32, the burner air connection 33, the exhaust gas extraction connection 34, the feed-through tube 35, and the ignition electrode 36 are screwed directly into the corresponding holes in the burner base element 10. No other housing parts or accessories are required.

[0052] In Fig. Fig. 7 is a section through the rear part of the recuperator burner 101 with the burner base 1 with the connections 31, 34, 35. The combustion gas channels 11, 12 in the burner base element 10 are located in the section plane, as is a fastening screw 65, which is inserted into the middle of the Fig. 4 visible fastening holes 19. A flange plate 63 of a burner insert 60 is held above it. Combustion gas lines 61, 62 are connected to the flange plate 63. Between the flange plate 63 and the area of the front side 10.1 of the burner base element 10, a sealing plane is formed, at which the combustion gas lines 61, 62 individually merge into the combustion gas channels 11, 12. At the other end of the combustion gas lines 61, 62 there is a burner nozzle, which is mounted in an end section of the burner tube 40 (see Fig. 5). The burner insert 60 can be pushed as a whole into the burner tube 40 and the cavity 27 inside the recuperator until the flange plate 63 rests against the burner base element 10. This allows for quick replacement of the burner nozzle.

[0053] To simplify production and reduce costs, it is advantageous to produce the recuperator in a single operation using additive manufacturing when using multiple recuperator burner base units 100. For this purpose, the burner base elements 10 are arranged in a grid-like arrangement 2, which is Fig. 8, is placed in the production machine. The outer dimensions of the heat transfer bodies 21 of the recuperators 20 are selected such that they do not protrude laterally beyond the edges of the burner base elements 10, but rather maintain a small offset of at least 1 mm from the edges. This allows adjacent heat transfer bodies 21 to be manufactured in a single operation with a small gap between them, without the heat transfer bodies 21 fusing together and having to be subsequently separated.

[0054] In order to be able to produce even more recuperative burner base units on an existing installation area in the production machine, a polygonal burner base element 10' can be provided instead of the previously described square contour of the burner base element. If, for example, hexagonal burner base elements 10' are provided, an even denser grid-shaped arrangement 2' can be achieved, which in Fig. 9. By offsetting the middle row relative to the upper and lower rows, the available space in the production machine can be utilized even better.
