AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing single-lever mixer fittings in bathrooms and kitchens waste energy by mixing hot and cold water in the middle position, leading to unnecessary power consumption, especially when heating water with electric or gas boilers, and result in inefficient water use during average usage scenarios.

Method used

A device with a water flow meter, temperature sensor, and electronic control unit that detects cold water flow and regulates the flow control valve to block hot water supply when the desired temperature is below a setpoint, ensuring only cold water flows, even if the mixer is in the middle position.

Benefits of technology

Significantly reduces energy consumption by preventing hot water flow when only cold water is needed, offering an energy-saving solution that is easy to implement and retrofit, with adjustable settings for optimal performance.

Abstract

Device for interrupting the hot water supply to a single-lever mixer tap, such as a kitchen tap or a bathroom tap, comprising at least an electronic control unit (1), an adjustable flow control valve (2), a temperature sensor (3) and a water flow meter (4), wherein the water flow meter (4) transmits a detected water flow to the electronic control unit (1), and simultaneously the temperature sensor (3) measures the temperature of the water in a hot water supply line to the single-lever mixer tap and transmits the measured temperature value to the control unit (1), wherein the electronic control unit (1) compares the temperature value with a temperature value stored in the electronic control unit (1) and, depending on this temperature value, blocks the flow control valve (2) for a period of time stored in the electronic control unit (1).
