Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a horse halter, i.e. a type of head harness for horses and other equines, which is placed around the head of a horse and by means of which a horse can be led, held, worked or tied up.
[0002] Horse halters are well known in the art. For example, DE 20 2008 015 427 U1 describes a horse halter with a head strap and a neck strap connected by parallel coupling straps. A disadvantage of conventional horse halters is that they are often made of rigid, sturdy material. While this is advantageous in terms of the halter's longevity, it also poses safety risks, for example, if the horse panics or falls while tied to the halter. In some cases, this can even lead to serious neck or cervical vertebrae injuries; in less severe cases, however, it can at least cause severe pressure sores on the horse's head and, not to mention, psychological disturbances in the horse, a flight animal.
[0003] Waldhausen and HKM have made special safety halters featuring hook-and-loop fasteners that are designed to be quickly released when needed. However, hook-and-loop fasteners have the disadvantage that they quickly become dirty, becoming clogged with straw, hay, sawdust, sand, or dirt, for example, and then can no longer be closed securely. Cleaning the hook-and-loop fasteners is also time-consuming or almost impossible. Furthermore, sufficiently dimensioned hook-and-loop fasteners are by no means quick to open. It is also not easy to grasp the hook-and-loop fastener, especially when a horse is panicking, because the two halves of the fastener are firmly connected to one another. Furthermore, releasing a hook-and-loop fastener produces an unpleasant noise for horses, which contributes more to the horse's panic than it alleviates by releasing the halter.
[0004] The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a safe-to-use horse halter which, on the one hand, is stable, but, on the other hand, can be released quickly and easily in a critical case in order to prevent injuries to the horse.
[0005] This problem is solved by the technical features of claim 1.
[0006] Accordingly, the task is solved by a horse halter that includes the following parts: a) A neck strap that extends from a first fastening element on a first side of the noseband to a second fastening element on a second side of the noseband. As the name “neck strap” suggests, when the horse halter is used as intended, this strap lies on the horse’s neck, i.e. behind the ears. It extends to the left and right of the horse’s head towards the horse’s cheeks, the so-called muzzles, to approximately an area laterally below the ears. The neck strap prevents the horse halter from slipping forwards towards the nose of the horse’s head. The neck strap engages with the first fastening element on the first side of the horse’s head and with the second fastening element on the second side of the horse’s head. The term “engage” is understood according to the invention as a connection. For example, a neck strap engaging a fastening element is understood to mean a neck strap that is detachably or permanently connected to the fastening element. This applies to all parts or components of the horse halter disclosed below that engage a fastening element. b) A throat latch extending from the first fastening element to the second fastening element. When the halter is used as intended, the throat latch extends from one side of the horse's throat to the other. The throat latch engages the first fastening element on the first side of the horse's head and the second fastening element on the second side.
[0007] Since both the headpiece and the throatlatch extend from the first fastening element to the second fastening element, the headpiece and the throatlatch as well as the two fastening elements form a kind of ring around the horse's head, with the headpiece extending around the back of the horse's head and the throatlatch extending under the horse's head. c) A first cheek strap extending from a third attachment element on the first side of the noseband to the first attachment element. d) A second cheek strap extending from a fourth fastening element on the second side of the noseband to the second fastening element.
[0008] The first and second cheek straps are essentially of the same design and arranged in parallel and represent a connection to a front area of the horse halter, which points towards the horse's mouth or nose. e) A noseband extending from the third attachment point to the fourth attachment point. When used as intended, the noseband rests on the bridge of the horse's nose and extends from the first side of the horse's head, where the noseband engages the third attachment point, to the second side of the horse's head, where it engages the fourth attachment point. f) A chinstrap extending from the fourth fastening element to the third fastening element, engaging the third fastening element on the first side of the horse's head and the fourth fastening element on the second side of the horse's head. The chinstrap runs below the horse's mouth. The chinstrap and noseband, connected by the third and fourth fastening elements, form another "ring" through which the horse's nose is inserted when the halter is used as intended.
[0009] The first and second cheek straps create a lateral connection between the first ring formed by the headpiece and throat strap and the second ring formed by the noseband and chin strap, each extending laterally along the length of the horse's head.
[0010] The arrangement of the straps creates a kind of harness for a horse's head, so that the horse can be led or tied up or even worked with it.
[0011] According to the invention, the headpiece consists of at least a first partial headpiece and a second partial headpiece, which can be connected to each other by means of a first magnetic closure to close the headpiece. This facilitates putting on the horse's halter and, as will be explained below, allows for quick and easy removal of the halter from the horse's head in a critical situation, thus preventing injuries to the horse.
[0012] For this purpose, the magnetic closure comprises a first closing element which is arranged on the first partial neck strap, in particular at one end of the first partial neck strap. In addition, the magnetic closure also comprises a complementary second closing element which is arranged on the second partial neck strap and in particular at one end of the second partial neck strap. The first closing element can form a first magnetic connection with the second closing element by the first closing element and the second closing element being brought closer to one another and in particular at least touching one another. The first magnetic connection can be used to open the horse halter for putting it on the horse's head and, after the first magnetic connection has been closed, to secure the horse halter to the horse's head for the duration of wear. The first magnetic closure, i.e. the first magnetic connection, is particularly suitable for being able to quickly detach the horse halter from the horse's head in an emergency.
[0013] A magnetic closure designed this way has the advantage, particularly over hook-and-loop fasteners and other snap and hook fasteners, that it can be easily released from the side with one hand, simply by slightly tilting one of the fasteners against the other. This allows the first magnetic connection to be released very quickly, even if the horse is already pulling against the halter in panic. Furthermore, releasing the fasteners does not produce any noise that could fuel the horse's panic. The fasteners are also easy to keep clean. They do not tend to stick to dirt, ensuring the horse halter is always safe to use.
[0014] According to an advantageous development, the first fastening element is arranged on the first partial neck strap and the second fastening element is arranged on the second partial neck strap in such a way that the first fastening element and the second fastening element form the first magnetic connection by being arranged one above the other. This has the advantage that the magnetic adhesion of the first fastening element to the second fastening element can develop across the surfaces arranged relative to one another, so that the magnetic force acting between the fastening elements can be specifically adjusted to the requirements with regard to good adhesion on the one hand, but also rapid detachment from one another on the other.
[0015] Preferably, the first partial neck strap extends from the first fastening element towards the neck, and the first fastening element is arranged on a side of the first partial neck strap facing away from the first fastening element. Furthermore, the second partial neck strap advantageously extends from the second fastening element towards the neck or towards the end of the first partial neck strap facing away from the first fastening element. The first closing element is preferably arranged on the end of the first partial neck piece facing away from the first fastening element, and the second closing element is preferably arranged on the end of the second partial neck piece facing away from the second fastening element, which end also faces the first fastening element, and the first magnetic connection is formed by arranging the second closing element one above the other on the first closing element. This means that the second locking element is arranged on top of the first locking element, and the first magnetic connection can be released by simply tilting the second locking element against the first locking element. This is particularly advantageous for large horses or small users, as when the horse panics, it usually raises its head. Since in this design the first magnetic closure can be released from below, i.e., from the side of the first fastening element, reaching even higher to release the first metal closure is not necessary.
[0016] To make it even easier to open the first magnetic connection, especially when the horse isn't keeping its head still, so that the locking elements may not be easily accessible, it is advantageous to provide a first tab on the second locking element, which is connected to the second locking element at a first end pointing toward the second fastening element and is exposed at an opposite second end toward the first fastening element. Such a tab, exposed at an end pointing downward toward the first fastening element, is very easy to grasp, so that, due to the attachment of the tab to the first end of the second locking element, a simple tilting movement to release the first magnetic connection can be carried out.The tab can be colored differently from the magnetic closure and the other components of the horse halter to make it easier to visualize and access in an emergency.
[0017] In order to be able to grip the tab particularly well, an exposed length of the first tab is advantageously 1 to 10 cm, preferably 2 to 8 cm, more preferably 2.5 to 6 cm and particularly preferably 3 to 5 cm.
[0018] To make the first magnetic closure easier for the user to access, according to a further advantageous development, the first magnetic closure is arranged in an area between the first fastening element and the center of the headband. This also has the further advantage that the horse halter can be pulled over the horse's head particularly easily when the first magnetic closure is open.
[0019] The neck strap has a length of, in particular, 60 to 85 cm and preferably 65 to 81 cm. From the point of view of very good accessibility of the first magnetic closure by the user, the first closing element of the first magnetic closure is preferably arranged at a distance of 2 to 15 cm, in particular 3 to 10 cm, from the first fastening element on the first partial neck strap and / or the second closing element of the first magnetic closure is arranged at a distance of 63 to 79 cm, in particular 62 to 78 cm, from the second fastening element on the second partial neck strap.
[0020] According to a further advantageous development, the neck strap comprises a third partial neck strap extending from the second fastening element to the second partial neck strap. A connection from the first fastening element to the second fastening element is thus created by arranging the following partial neck pieces: first partial neck strap / second partial neck strap / third partial neck strap.
[0021] In this embodiment, the third partial neck strap and the second partial neck strap can also be connected to one another by means of a second magnetic closure in order to open and close the neck strap. Analogous to the first magnetic closure, a third closure element of the second magnetic closure is arranged on the third partial neck strap, in particular at its end facing away from the second fastening element, and a fourth closure element of the second magnetic closure is arranged on the second partial neck strap, in particular at an end of the second partial neck strap facing the second fastening element, and the third closure element can form a second magnetic connection with the fourth closure element. This second magnetic connection offers the advantage that the horse halter can be released from both sides if necessary, depending on which side is quicker to reach. This makes the use of the horse halter on the horse even safer and prevents injuries to the horse even better.
[0022] The second magnetic connection and its elements can be designed like the first magnetic connection and its elements.
[0023] In order to also optimize the second magnetic connection in light of a balance between good stability and easy opening, the second magnetic connection is preferably formed by arranging the fourth locking element on top of the third locking element.
[0024] Further advantageous in view of quick opening when needed, a second tab is attached to the fourth closure element, which is connected to the fourth closure element at a first end pointing toward the first partial headpiece and is exposed at an opposite second end toward the second fastening element. The tab can be opened and closed from the second side of the horse halter, i.e., from the opposite side to the first side of the horse halter.
[0025] The second tab also advantageously has, in order to be able to grip it better, an exposed length of 1 to 10 cm, preferably of 2 to 8 cm, more preferably of 2.5 to 6 cm and particularly preferably of 3 to 5 cm.
[0026] To ensure easy access to the second magnetic closure in an emergency, even if the horse is straining against the halter, the second magnetic closure is advantageously located between the second fastening element and the center of the headpiece. This area is easier to access than the area directly behind the ears on the horse's poll.
[0027] According to a further advantageous development, the third closing element of the second magnetic closure is arranged at a distance of 2 to 15 cm, in particular 3 to 10 cm, from the second fastening element on the third partial neck strap and / or the fourth closing element of the second magnetic closure is arranged at a distance of 63 to 79 cm, in particular 62 to 78 cm, from the first fastening element on the second partial neck strap.
[0028] For the sake of even weight distribution, the first magnetic closure and the second magnetic closure are preferably arranged symmetrically on either side of the center of the neck strap.
[0029] In order to improve the stability of the horse halter, according to a further advantageous development, the first and / or the second closing element are sewn to the first partial neck strap or the second partial neck strap or are connected to one another by means of an eyelet.
[0030] Alternatively or additionally, for the same reason, the third and / or the fourth closing element are preferably sewn to the third partial neck strap or the second partial neck strap, respectively, or connected to each other by means of an eyelet.
[0031] It is further advantageous that the throat latch can be reversibly connected to the first fastening element. This has the advantage that by loosening the throat latch, the horse halter can be opened without having to release a magnetic connection, allowing it to be pulled over the horse's head into the intended position.
[0032] It is preferred that the throat strap includes a hook, in particular a snap hook, at one end that can be hooked into the first fastening element. Such a hook is particularly easy to open and close.
[0033] Advantageously, the first fastening element and / or the second fastening element and / or the third fastening element and / or the fourth fastening element are eyelets. Eyelets have the advantage that they are very good connecting elements and one or more straps engaging in an eyelet can be connected to the eyelet in different ways, for example by a reversibly detachable connection, such as a hook or snap connection, or by an irreversibly detachable connection, such as simply sewing the strap into the eyelet. The shape and design of the eyelets is not restricted in detail. To prevent injuries, rounded eyelets made of lightweight metal material are preferred.
[0034] To improve the security of the horse halter against slipping on the horse's head, the horse halter preferably includes a stabilizing strap that connects the throat strap to the chin strap.
[0035] In this case, it is particularly preferred if the stabilizing strap can be arranged in a displaceable manner in the throat strap.
[0036] In order to further improve the slip resistance and also to provide a means of tying the horse halter, it is advantageously provided that the chin strap comprises an eyelet which can be moved along the chin strap, wherein the stabilizing strap also comprises an eyelet at one end and the movable eyelet of the chin strap engages in the eyelet of the stabilizing strap.
[0037] In order to improve wearing comfort, according to a further advantageous development, the second partial neck strap is formed at least in sections from an elastic material.
[0038] Also for reasons of improving wearing comfort, it is provided that the noseband is preferably made of an elastic material at least in sections.
[0039] In order to make it even easier to release the horse halter in an emergency, the width of the first tab and / or the second tab is preferably 0.5 cm to 8 cm, in particular 1 cm to 5 cm and in particular 2 cm to 4 cm.
[0040] Further details, advantages, and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawings. It shows: Fig. 1 a horse halter according to an advantageous further training and Fig. 2 a detailed view of Fig. 1.
[0041] The figures show only the essential components of the horse halter. All other components have been omitted for clarity. Furthermore, identical reference numerals refer to identical components.
[0042] Fig. 1 shows a horse halter 1 according to an advantageous embodiment. The horse halter 1 comprises a headpiece 2 extending from a first fastening element 3 on a first side of the noseband 1 to a second fastening element 4 on a second side of the noseband 1; a throat strap 5 extending from the first fastening element 3 to the second fastening element 4; a first cheek strap 14 extending from a third fastening element 7 on the first side of the noseband 1 to the first fastening element 3; a second cheek strap 15 extending from a fourth fastening element 8 on the second side of the noseband 1 to the second fastening element 4; a noseband 9 extending from the third fastening element 7 to the fourth fastening element 8; a chin strap 6 extending from the fourth fastening element 8 to the third fastening element 7.
[0043] The first and second cheek straps 14, 15 run essentially parallel and connect any annular arrangement formed by the neck strap 2 and throat strap 5 with an annular arrangement formed by the nose strap 9 and chin strap 6, so that the horse halter 1, when used as intended, runs along the sides of the horse's head, around the bridge of the nose and under the chin and around the poll behind the ears and under the throat.
[0044] In order to make it easier to put the horse halter 1 on the horse's head, the throat strap 5 comprises a hook 17 at the end pointing towards the first side and thus towards the first fastening element 3, which hook engages in the first fastening element 3 designed as an eyelet.
[0045] The throat strap 5 and the chin strap 6 are connected to one another by a stabilizing strap 16, wherein the stabilizing strap 16 is slidably arranged on the throat strap 5 and has an eyelet at the end facing the chin strap 6, which eyelet engages in an eyelet slidably attached to the chin strap 6.
[0046] Preferably, all four fastening elements are designed in the form of rounded eyelets and thus facilitate a reversible or irreversible connection of the corresponding straps to one another.
[0047] The horse halter 1 also includes a first magnetic closure 10 and may also include a second or more additional magnetic closures. The first magnetic closure 10 is located between a first partial neck strap 2a and a second partial neck strap 2b forming the neck strap 2. The first magnetic closure 10 is designed to connect the first partial neck strap 2a and the second partial neck strap 2b to each other, thereby closing the neck strap 2.
[0048] A detailed view A of the first magnetic closure 10 is shown in Fig.2. Here it can be seen that the first magnetic closure 10 comprises a first closing element 10a and a second closing element 10b, which are arranged one above the other in order to close the first magnetic closure 10. In particular, the second closing element 10b lies on the first closing element 10a. The first closing element 10a is arranged at an end 11 of the first partial neck strap 2a pointing away from the first fastening element 3, and the second closing element 10b is arranged at an end of the second partial neck strap 2b pointing away from the second fastening element 4 and thus in the direction of the first fastening element 3, so that an overlap of the first partial neck strap 2a and the second partial neck strap 2b only exists via the first closing element 10a and the second closing element 10b.
[0049] A tab 13 is arranged on the second closure element 10b. The tab 13 is fastened in the direction of the second fastening element 4 to the second closure element 10b and in particular to a first end of the second closure element 10b pointing in the direction of the second fastening element, and has a fastened section 13a there. The tab 13 is exposed in the direction of the first fastening element 3 and forms an exposed section 13b there, so that it can be easily grasped to detach the second closure element 10b from the first closure element 10a and thus to release the first magnetic connection 10. The tab has in particular a width B of 3 cm and an exposed length L of 4 cm, so that it is very easy to grasp. In addition, for better visualization, it can be colored to contrast with the first magnetic closure 10 and also with the straps of the horse halter 1.
[0050] The first magnetic closure 10 enables easy and quick opening of the horse halter, especially when a horse is panicking and the halter 1 is attached to a tie-up hook, for example, via a rope, so that the horse could injure itself if it pulls against the halter 1 and the rope. The first magnetic closure 10 is easy to clean and dirt-repellent, ensuring that there is always sufficient magnetic force between the first closure element 10a and the second closure element 10b.
[0051] It goes without saying that the neck strap 2 can be constructed from further partial neck straps and, for example, a second magnetic closure can be provided, which is arranged in particular symmetrically to the first magnetic closure 10 with respect to the center of the neck strap 2 on a second side opposite the first side of the horse halter 1, so that the horse halter 1 can be opened easily and quickly from both sides of the horse's head if necessary.
