Description

[0001] The invention relates to a container comprising a circumferential side wall, an upper edge of which encloses an opening, wherein at least one section of the side wall is formed by spaced-apart ribs extending in a direction towards the upper edge.

[0002] Containers of this type are particularly well-known for household use as fruit baskets or bread baskets. Containers are especially known in which the inner and outer sides of the side walls are formed by the flat sides of flat steel ribs, which are attached with one flat side to an upper rim element. Containers of this type with plastic ribs would have the disadvantage, at a similar thickness, of lower side wall stability.

[0003] The object of the invention is to provide a container of the type mentioned above which can be made of plastic and yet has similar stability properties to a known metal container.

[0004] The problem is solved by a container according to claim 1. Further advantageous embodiments are the subject of the dependent claims or are described below.

[0005] The "height" of the ribs in the direction perpendicular to the surface formed by the ribs is greater than the "width" of the ribs in the direction parallel to the surface and perpendicular to the direction of their course. The ribs according to the invention are therefore also flat in the sense that they are taller than they are wide. However, compared to the known ribs made of flat steel described above, they are rotated by 90 degrees. This results in a surprising increase in the stability of the container, and in particular of the side walls, without requiring an increase in material usage. This makes it possible to manufacture the container from a material other than metal, especially plastic, and achieve similar stability properties, resulting in considerable cost savings.

[0006] Preferably, the height of the rib is greater than its width along its entire length.

[0007] In a preferred embodiment, the height increases along the path in the opposite direction of travel, i.e., from top to bottom. The greater height in the lower region is advantageous because it increases the stability of the side wall in the lower region and thus throughout the entire container – in addition to having a visually appealing effect.

[0008] In a preferred embodiment, the ratio between height and width decreases during the course in the direction of travel, i.e. from bottom to top.

[0009] In a preferred embodiment, the cross-section of the ribs is rectangular.

[0010] Preferably, the height of a rib is at least five times its width, at least in some sections.

[0011] Preferably, the height of a rib is at least five times its width along its entire length.

[0012] Preferably, the distance between two ribs is greater than the height of a rib. The material required for the side wall is then less than it would be for a closed side wall whose thickness corresponded to the width of the ribs.

[0013] Preferably, the ribs extend away from the center of the container. The opening of the container is then larger than its base.

[0014] Preferably, the slope of a rib changes from a shallower slope in the lower area to a steeper slope in the upper area.

[0015] Preferably, the ribs run horizontally in a lower area. This has a positive effect on the overall stability of the container.

[0016] Preferably, the upper edge has an upper edge element that extends transversely to the ribs in such a way that the ribs open upwards into the edge element.

[0017] Preferably, the upper edge element is integrally connected to the ribs.

[0018] Preferably, the upper edge element has contact with a rib both from below and from the side.

[0019] Preferably, the contact surface between a rib and the upper edge element encloses more than 20 percent of the upper edge element in a plane in which the rib lies and which is perpendicular to the surface formed by the ribs. This results in particularly high stability of the side wall. Such extensive "enclosure" of the upper edge element is not possible with a conventional, flat-mounted rib.

[0020] Preferably, the upper edge element is designed as a surrounding frame element.

[0021] Preferably, the upper edge element is designed like a rib.

[0022] Preferably, the ribs terminate downwards in a lower edge element.

[0023] Preferably, the lower edge element is integrally connected to a base plate.

[0024] Preferably, the lower edge element is cantilevered downwards from a base plate.

[0025] Preferably, the contact surface between a rib and the lower edge element is vertical.

[0026] Preferably, the container can stand on a surface with its lower rim element.

[0027] Preferably, the ribs below the upper edge are connected to each other by means of a reinforcing element.

[0028] Preferably, the reinforcing element is integrally connected to the ribs.

[0029] Preferably, the reinforcing element only makes contact with a rib on the sides of the ribs facing away from the opening.

[0030] Preferably, the reinforcing element is designed as a horizontally extending web.

[0031] Preferably, the entire side wall is formed by the ribs, with the ribs being connected to each other only in the area of their lower and upper ends.

[0032] Preferably, the entire side wall is formed by the ribs, the ribs being connected to each other only by an upper edge element and a lower edge element.

[0033] Preferably, the ribs are made of plastic.

[0034] Preferably, the ribs and the upper edge element are made of plastic.

[0035] Preferably, the container is made of plastic.

[0036] Preferably, the container is manufactured using injection molding.

[0037] Preferably, the upper edge element and the lower edge element are oval or circular.

[0038] Preferably, the height of the container is in the range of 10 cm to 120 cm.

[0039] An embodiment of a container according to the invention is explained with reference to the figures.

[0040] They show Fig. 1: a container according to the invention; Fig. 2: a side view of the in Fig. 1 of the container shown; Fig. 3: a further embodiment of a container according to the invention; Fig. 4: another view of the in Fig. 3 containers shown.

[0041] The one in the Fig. 1 and Fig. The container shown in Figure 2 according to the invention consists of plastic and comprises a circumferential side wall, an upper rim of which encloses an opening. The side wall is formed by spaced-apart ribs 1 extending towards the upper rim. The height of the ribs 1 in the direction perpendicular to the surface formed by the ribs 1 is greater than the width of the ribs 1 in the direction parallel to the surface and perpendicular to the direction of extension. As is particularly well demonstrated in Fig. As can be seen in Figure 2, the height of the ribs 1 increases along their length in the opposite direction, i.e., from top to bottom. The distance between two ribs is greater than the height of a single rib. The ribs 1 extend away from the center of the container. The slope of the ribs 1 changes from a shallower slope in the lower section to a steeper slope in the upper section. In the lower section, the ribs run almost horizontally.

[0042] The upper edge has an annular, rib-like upper edge element 2 that extends transversely to the ribs 1 such that the ribs 1 merge upwards into the edge element 2. The upper edge element 2 is integrally connected to the ribs 1. The upper edge element 2 is in contact with the ribs 1 both from below and laterally. The contact area between a rib 1 and the upper edge element 2 encloses the upper edge element 2 to more than 20 percent in a plane in which the rib 1 lies and which is transverse to the surface formed by the ribs 1.

[0043] The ribs 1 terminate downwards in a lower edge element 3, which is integrally connected to a base plate 4. The contact surface between a rib 1 and the lower edge element 3 is vertical. The container can stand on a surface using the lower edge element 3.

[0044] The ribs 1 are connected to each other below the upper edge by means of two horizontally extending reinforcing elements 5. The reinforcing elements 5 are integrally connected to the ribs 1, with the reinforcing element 5 only making contact with a rib 1 on the sides of the ribs 1 facing away from the opening.

[0045] The one in the Fig. 3 and Fig. The container shown in Figure 4 according to the invention, which can be used, for example, as a fruit basket, has a side wall in which the ribs 1 are connected to each other only by an upper rim element 2 and a lower rim element 3. The lower rim element 3 is cantilevered downwards from a base plate 4.
