Description

[0001] Closing a flexible container, in particular a valve bag, with the features specified in the preamble of claim 1.

[0002] Various filling devices are known from the prior art for filling flexible containers, such as valve bags, with powdery contents. These convey the contents by pressure or by applying a vacuum in a corresponding vacuum chamber. After filling, the container is closed by welding, folding, or similar means in the area of a valve, which in valve bags represents a short, tubular end piece of the bag, in order to completely enclose the contents and thus protect them from external influences. The valve bag is then sent for further processing or transport. EP 2 008 794 B1 also shows a closing device for closing valve bags with a filling valve. A welding device is used which can be positioned in a first position or a second position by means of a movement device in order to create a first or second weld seam.

[0003] Such filling devices are state-of-the-art and are manufactured, for example, by Greif-Velox Maschinenfabrik GmbH in Lübeck and distributed worldwide. Vacuum packers, air packers, turbine packers, and others are state-of-the-art and are used to package a powdery or granular product in a container and subsequently seal this container. Such devices therefore comprise a machine frame, which typically contains not only a filling device but also a sealing device with which the filled container can be sealed. The sealing devices typically comprise an ultrasonic welding device comprising a sonotrode and an anvil that enclose and seal a designated section of the container in question.Welded valve bags may have an unwelded overhang between a weld seam and the outer end of the valve, where residues of the product filled into the valve bag can remain and trickle out after sealing. This can lead to an undesirable accumulation of product residue or contamination in the area of the filling device.

[0004] The object of the present invention is to provide an alternative filling device with a closing device or an alternative closing device for closing flexible containers, in which the flexible container in question can be closed in such a way that only the smallest possible quantities of the product filled into the container escape after closing.

[0005] This object is achieved according to the invention by a closing device for closing a flexible container having the features specified in claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the device emerge from the subclaims, the following description and the drawing.

[0006] The closing device according to the invention for closing a flexible container, in particular a valve bag, has a welding device, a sensor device for detecting a position of a part of the container to be closed and a control unit, wherein the control unit is coupled to the sensor device and the welding device and is designed to place the welding device in a first position and a second position spaced therefrom on the part of the container to be closed by controlling at least one movement device, to detect when at least the second of the two positions has been reached by the sensor unit, and to control the welding device at each of the first and second positions to produce a weld seam on the container.

[0007] The device according to the invention can be coupled to a filling device or integrated therein by being arranged on a machine frame of the filling device. This allows the container to be advantageously closed immediately after filling. A core idea of the invention is to close the flexible container with two spaced-apart weld seams on the part to be closed. The positions of the two weld seams can be sensibly selected depending on the design of the container. In particular, when the flexible container is designed as a valve bag with a filling valve or a protruding valve section, the first weld seam could be created at an inner end of the filling valve on the bag side and the second weld seam at a spaced-apart outer end of the filling valve. This prevents any residual filling material contained in the filling valve from escaping from the container.By placing the second weld at an outer end of the fill valve, the open protrusion of the fill valve can be minimized, virtually eliminating the possibility of spillage. Furthermore, trimming off the protrusion is unnecessary.

[0008] The movement device could belong to the closing device and / or to the filling device in which the closing device is integrated. The control unit can be equipped with a corresponding control routine which, in addition to controlling the sealing device, also includes controlling the movement device. The implementation of the movement device could comprise several variants. In a first variant, the movement device could be provided to support and move the flexible container and could therefore be assigned to a filling device. The movement device could, for example, be designed to receive an empty container and feed it to a filling nozzle. After the filling process, the movement device can move the filled container to assume the first or second position of the sealing device on the part to be closed. It is conceivable to arrange the sealing device and the sensor device in a largely stationary manner. In this variant, it might be appropriate to provide a robot arm as the movement device, capable of performing complex, spatial movements that, in addition to filling and closing, could also include placing the container on a conveyor belt or pallet or transferring it to a handling device. The control unit can control the robot arm accordingly to position the container on the sealing device after filling.

[0009] In a further variant, the movement device could also be part of the closing device. It is then intended to move the sealing device relative to a supplied filling valve or another part of the container to be closed, at least along a linear path. If the container to be closed is designed as a valve bag, the weld seams are preferably created at two spaced-apart positions along the filling valve. A linear guide with a linear drive could be sufficient for this, allowing the path between the first position and the second position to be covered along the filling valve.

[0010] A combination of these variants is also conceivable, for example, by moving the container by means of a first movement device belonging to the filling device, and moving the sealing device relative to the container by means of a second movement device belonging to the closing device. The first movement device could essentially serve to absorb the mechanical loads of the container, and the second movement device could serve to precisely position the sealing device.

[0011] A further core aspect of the invention lies in the use of a sensor device designed to detect a position of the part of the container to be closed. The control unit is able to receive sensor data from the sensor device in order to be able to control the corresponding movement device to assume the first position and the second position. Depending on the type of container, it may be sufficient to precisely detect only one of the two positions. If, for example, a first weld seam is desired at a bag-side end of a filling valve and a second weld seam at an outer end of the filling valve, the sensor device could be designed to detect only the second position. This can be done, for example, by detecting an end edge of the filling valve. The first position corresponding to the first weld can be achieved by conventional methods, whereby the accuracy of the placement of the first weld is not of paramount importance in the example mentioned.

[0012] The control unit can be implemented as a dedicated control unit. Alternatively, the described function of the control unit could also be integrated into an existing control unit of a filling device as a corresponding control routine or as a suitable algorithm.

[0013] The sensor device could comprise an optical sensor device configured to detect the position of the part of the container to be sealed using optical methods. For example, this is done using a light barrier, a camera, or a laser-based position and distance detection device.

[0014] In an advantageous embodiment, the welding device is a thermal welding device or an ultrasonic welding device, wherein the ultrasonic welding device comprises an anvil for supporting the part of the container to be closed, in particular a filling valve of a valve bag, and a sonotrode, which are arranged such that they can move relative to one another. The anvil is designed as a counterbearing for the sonotrode and serves to support the filling valve or another corresponding part of the container to be closed. These components are arranged such that they can be moved relative to one another, so that for the purpose of the welding process, they can be moved towards one another, including the part to be closed, and brought into contact with the container. To place the part to be closed on the anvil, the two components are moved apart. It may be advantageous to arrange one of the two components as a fixed unit and the other as a movable unit. In principle, the anvil and the sonotrode could also be arranged so that they can move relative to each other. However, a joint movement of the anvil and the sonotrode using the aforementioned movement device is independent of this.

[0015] The sensor device could comprise at least one light barrier. In a simple embodiment, a single light barrier could be provided, designed to detect a protruding end of a part of the container to be sealed. The light barrier could be positioned on the sealing device in such a way that the end of the part to be sealed that extends into the sealing device no longer interrupts the light beam of the light barrier as soon as the second position is reached. The use of a retro-reflective light barrier or a light sensor can also be advantageous, since this only needs to be placed on one side of the container and thus requires less installation space.

[0016] The at least one light barrier could comprise at least one reflective light barrier arranged on the sonotrode side. This is particularly advantageous from a design perspective, since the sonotrode is often designed to be vertically movable toward the anvil and, even with a narrow anvil, reliably enables position detection of the protruding valve end or another part to be sealed. Because the reflective light barrier in question is arranged close to or directly on the sonotrode and is typically moved vertically upwards out of the welding area with it after a welding process, contamination of the reflective light barrier can be at least largely prevented.

[0017] To further improve the detection of the position of the container part to be sealed, the at least one light barrier can also have two reflective light barriers to detect the end corner areas of the part to be sealed. The remaining overhang after applying the second weld seam can thus be further reduced.

[0018] It is advantageous if the at least one light barrier has a detection direction that is arranged obliquely to a direction of action of the sealing device. The at least one light barrier can thus be arranged away from the direct working area of the sealing device, for example, next to or above a sonotrode if the sealing device is an ultrasonic welding device. A sensor of the at least one light barrier can thus be spaced away from the relevant part of the container to be sealed and thus better protected against contamination.

[0019] Preferably, the sensor device is rigidly mounted on the sealing device. The position of the container part to be sealed relative to the sealing device can thus be detected precisely and directly at the sealing device itself.

[0020] According to the invention, the closing device is designed to weld containers in the form of valve bags with filling valves as the part to be closed, wherein the first position is selected such that a first weld seam is created at a bag-side end of the filling valve, and the second position is selected such that a second weld seam is created at an outer end of the filling valve. The distance between the second weld seam and the outer end is as small as possible and is preferably only a few millimeters or less. The combination of control unit and sensor device enables precise positioning of the part of the container to be closed and the welding device relative to one another in order to set the second weld seam accordingly.

[0021] The invention further relates to a filling device for filling a flexible container, in particular a valve bag, with a powdery filling material, comprising a filling nozzle which is provided for insertion into a filling valve of the container, and a closing device according to the preceding description.

[0022] As mentioned above, it is advantageous if the filling device has a movement device designed to move the part of the container to be closed relative to the sealing device of the closing device. This can be, for example, a robot arm or another mechanical, load-bearing guide.

[0023] Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for closing a flexible container, in particular a valve bag, comprising controlling at least one movement device for placing a welding device in a first position on a part of the container to be closed, creating a first weld seam, controlling the at least one movement device for placing the welding device in a second position on the part of the container to be closed, and creating a second weld seam, wherein reaching at least the second of the two positions is detected by a sensor unit for detecting a position of the part of the container to be closed. The first position is selected such that a first weld seam is created on a bag-side end of the filling valve, and the second position is selected such that a second weld seam is created on an outer end of the filling valve.

[0024] The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to an embodiment illustrated in the drawing. In the drawings: Fig. 1 to 4 show the closing device in several different states when performing a welding process.

[0025] Fig. 1 shows a closing device 2 for closing a flexible container 4. In this illustration, the container 4 is a valve bag 4 having a hose- or nozzle-like filling valve 6 as the part to be closed, through which a filling nozzle can be inserted into the container 4 in order to fill a filling material, in particular a powder. The filling valve 6 is welded after filling to close the container 4.

[0026] In Fig. 1 the container 4 is already filled and a movement device (not shown), which is designed, for example, as a robot arm, moves the container 4 in the plane of the drawing from the left towards the closing device 2 in order to close it. The filling valve 6 is oriented forward in the direction of movement and points to the right in the plane of the drawing. The filling valve 6 has an outer end 8 and an inner, bag-side end 10, to which a main volume 12 of the container 4 is connected, which can be filled through the filling valve 6. The closing device 2 has a welding device 14, which can be designed as a thermal welding device or, as here, as an example, as an ultrasonic welding device, which has a sonotrode 16 and an anvil 18 interacting therewith. The sonotrode 16 and the anvil 18 are positioned opposite one another. For example, the anvil 18 is arranged vertically below the sonotrode 16 and has a support surface directed upwards toward the sonotrode 16. The sonotrode 16, however, faces vertically downwards toward the anvil 18. A gap 20 into which the filling valve 6 can be inserted is formed between the sonotrode 16 and the anvil 18, which are mounted and driven so as to be movable relative to one another.

[0027] The closing device further comprises a sensor device 22, which is rigidly arranged on the sonotrode side of the welding device 14. It comprises, for example, a reflection light barrier 24, which has a detection direction 26, represented by a dashed line, which is arranged obliquely to a direction of action of the welding device. In this illustration, the direction of action can be approximated by an imaginary connecting line between the sonotrode 16 and the anvil 18. In other words, the detection direction 26 runs obliquely to a vertical. The sensor device 22 can thus be placed next to the sonotrode 16 at a slight distance from the gap 20, so that a certain distance from the filling valve 6 is maintained and the reflection light barrier 24 is thus protected from contamination.

[0028] The sensor device 22 is provided to detect at least one position of the outer end 8 of the filling valve 6. A control unit 28 is provided by way of example, which can belong to the closing device 2 or to a filling device into which the closing device 2 is integrated. The control unit 28 is coupled to the sensor device 22 and designed to control the welding device 14 to create a weld seam. By detecting the position of at least the outer end 8 of the container 4, a weld seam can be precisely placed at the outer end 8. The control unit 28 can move the container 4 and / or the welding device 14 by controlling a corresponding movement device such that the welding device 14 and the container 4 can assume two predetermined positions, in each of which a weld seam is created.

[0029] Fig. 1 shows the beginning of the insertion of the filling valve 6 into the gap 20 after filling the container 4. Here the outer end 8 reaches the detection direction 26 of the sensor arrangement 22. As in Fig. 2 As shown, the container 4 is first moved further so that the filling valve 6 projects further into the gap 20 and the sonotrode 16 and the anvil 18 are arranged near the bag-side end 10.

[0030] In this position, as in Fig. 3 As shown, the anvil 18 and the sonotrode 16 move towards each other, so that the gap 20 decreases in the vertical direction, which leads to the enclosing of the filling valve 6. By activating the sonotrode 16, the filling valve 6 is welded by generating a first weld seam 30 near the bag-side end 10.

[0031] Subsequently, the sonotrode 16 and the anvil 18 are moved apart again in order to move the container 4, and thus the filling valve 6, slightly out of the gap 20. The sensor arrangement 22 can determine when the outer end 8 is about to reach the gap 20 by detecting an end edge of the outer end 8. In this position, which is referred to as the second position in the context of this disclosure, the relative movement of the container 4 and the welding device 14 is interrupted, and a second weld seam 32 is produced. This is located as close as possible to the outer end 8 of the filling valve 6 and thus reduces any free, open projection of the filling valve 6. List of reference symbols
