Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to plastic film bags and their use as shipping bags, in particular for the transport of liquid samples.
[0002] The shipping business is becoming increasingly important worldwide. The constant increase in the volume of goods shipped on the one hand and the growing demands for resource-efficient, sustainable transport on the other hand are increasingly demanding the use of space-saving shipping containers. This can often be easily achieved for transported items that are not harmful to the environment. In the case of hazardous goods or goods that could harm or at least impair people or the environment, the logistics company involved is often required, for a variety of reasons, e.g., official regulations, to use particularly stable and / or liquid-tight single or even multiple packaging. In many cases, the use of different materials is necessary to achieve a sufficient degree of tightness and / or stability. This is often diametrically opposed to efficient freight planning and affects, for example, the transport of liquid samples from the medical sector. Liquid samples such as blood or urine samples are being generated in ever-increasing quantities, particularly during pandemics, not least due to growing public sensitivity. Such samples can be screened fully automatically for relevant pathogens or other components in mass throughput in analysis centers. While it is desirable that such liquid samples do not generate excessive amounts of packaging waste, safe transport and safe handover must never be jeopardized by concessions in packaging. Plastic film bags for transport are known from US2010062216A1 and WO9825835A1.
[0003] Therefore, the object of the present invention was to make shipping containers available which are no longer subject to the disadvantages of the prior art and which, in particular, enable the safe shipping of liquid samples while using as little material as possible.
[0004] Accordingly, according to a first aspect of the invention, a plastic film bag with a bag opening and an opposite bag end was found, comprising a plastic film front wall with a bag opening edge and a first side edge and an opposite second side edge; a plastic film rear wall with a bag opening edge and a first side edge and an opposite second side edge; and a plastic film bag bottom (also called a "first embodiment").The plastic film bag according to the invention in this first embodiment variant has a plastic film intermediate layer arranged between the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall, said intermediate layer having a first side edge and an opposite second side edge, a bottom edge and an opposite opening-side edge, as well as a rear side facing the plastic film rear wall and a front side facing the plastic film front wall. This plastic film intermediate layer is connected, in particular welded, to the plastic film rear wall along the opening-side edge or at a distance from the opening-side edge, from or at a distance from the first side edge in the direction of or up to the opposite second side edge. The bottom edge is spaced from or on the plastic film bag bottom, and the opening edge is spaced from or on the bag opening edge of the plastic film rear wall, in particular spaced from the bag opening edge of the plastic film rear wall. The plastic film bag according to the invention of this first embodiment is further equipped with at least one first layer comprising or consisting of liquid-absorbing material with a front side facing the plastic film front wall and a back side facing the plastic film rear wall, wherein the first layer is connected, in particular welded, directly or indirectly to the back side of the plastic film intermediate layer via the front side. Here, i) the first layer extends towards the bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer and ends at a distance from this bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer, or ii) the first layer extends to the bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer, or iii) the first layer partially projects beyond the bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer in the direction of or to the bottom of the plastic film bag. Alternatively or additionally, at least one second layer, comprising or consisting of liquid-absorbing material, can be provided with a front side facing the plastic film front wall and a back side facing the plastic film rear wall, wherein the second layer is directly or indirectly connected, in particular welded, to the plastic film rear wall via the back side.In this case i) the second layer extends in the direction of the bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer and ends at a distance from this bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer or ii) the second layer extends to the bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer or iii) the second layer projects in parts beyond the bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer in the direction of or to the bottom of the plastic film bag.
[0005] In this first embodiment of the plastic film bag according to the invention, in a preferred embodiment, the plastic film intermediate layer is welded to the plastic film rear wall from the first side edge to the opposite second side edge at, or preferably at a distance from, the opening-side edge. The bottom edge is spaced from the plastic film bag bottom, and the opening-side edge is spaced from the bag opening edge of the plastic film rear wall. If the first layer containing or consisting of the liquid-absorbing material is used in the first embodiment, it preferably protrudes in sections beyond the bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer, particularly in the embodiment in which the plastic film intermediate layer does not extend to the plastic film bag bottom. The remaining section, which in this embodiment does not protrude beyond the bottom edge of the plastic film interlayer, is usually the larger of the two sections in terms of area.
[0006] If the second layer containing or consisting of the liquid-absorbing material is used in the first embodiment, it preferably protrudes in sections beyond the bottom edge of the plastic film interlayer, particularly in the embodiment in which the plastic film interlayer does not extend to the bottom of the plastic film bag. The remaining section, which in this embodiment does not protrude beyond the bottom edge of the plastic film interlayer, is usually the larger of the two sections in terms of area.
[0007] In the first embodiment of the plastic film bag according to the invention, the bottom edge of the plastic film intermediate layer is not connected to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall. Expediently, the plastic film intermediate layer is not connected to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall, except for the connection along the opening-side edge or spaced from the opening-side edge to the plastic film rear wall and the connection of the first side edge to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall in the region of the first side boundary, and the connection of the second side edge to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall in the region of the second side boundary.
[0008] According to a second aspect, the object underlying the invention is achieved by a plastic film bag with a bag opening and an opposite bag end, comprising a plastic film front wall with a bag opening edge and a first side edge and an opposite second side edge, a plastic film rear wall with a bag opening edge and with a first side edge and an opposite second side edge and a plastic film bag bottom (also called "second embodiment variant").The plastic film bag according to the invention in this second embodiment variant has a plastic film intermediate layer arranged between the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall, said intermediate layer having a first side edge and an opposite second side edge, a bottom edge and an opposite opening edge, as well as a rear side facing the plastic film rear wall and a front side facing the plastic film front wall. This plastic film intermediate layer is connected, in particular welded, to the plastic film rear wall along the bottom edge or at a distance from the bottom edge, from or at a distance from the first side edge in the direction of or up to the opposite second side edge. The bottom edge is located at the bottom of the plastic film bag or preferably at a distance from the bottom of the plastic film bag, and the opening edge is located at or preferably at a distance from the bag opening edge of the plastic film rear wall, in particular at a distance from the plastic film rear wall. The plastic film bag according to the invention of this second embodiment is further equipped with at least one first layer comprising or consisting of liquid-absorbing material with a front side facing the plastic film front wall and a back side facing the plastic film rear wall, wherein the first layer is connected, in particular welded, directly or indirectly to the back side of the plastic film intermediate layer via the front side.In this case, i) the first layer extends in the direction of the opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer and ends at a distance from this opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer, or ii) the first layer extends to the opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer, or iii) the first layer partially projects beyond the opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer in the direction of or to the bag opening. Alternatively or additionally, at least one second layer comprising or consisting of liquid-absorbing material can be provided with a front side facing the plastic film front wall and a back side facing the plastic film back wall, wherein the second layer is directly or indirectly connected, in particular welded, to the plastic film back wall via the back.In this case, i) the second layer extends either in the direction of the opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer and ends at a distance from this opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer or ii) the second layer extends to the opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer or iii) the second layer projects in parts beyond the opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer in the direction of or to the bottom of the plastic film bag.
[0009] In this second embodiment of the plastic film bag according to the invention, in a preferred embodiment the plastic film intermediate layer is welded to the plastic film rear wall from the first side edge to the opposite second side edge at or preferably at a distance from the bottom edge, and the opening-side edge is at a distance from the bag opening edge of the plastic film rear wall.
[0010] If the first layer containing or consisting of the liquid-absorbing material is used in the second embodiment, it preferably protrudes in sections beyond the opening-side edge of the plastic film interlayer, particularly in the embodiment in which the plastic film interlayer does not extend to the bag opening edge. The remaining section, which in this embodiment does not protrude beyond the opening-side edge of the plastic film interlayer, is usually the larger of the two sections in terms of area.
[0011] If the second layer containing or consisting of the liquid-absorbing material is used in the second embodiment, it preferably protrudes in sections beyond the opening-side edge of the plastic film interlayer, particularly in the embodiment in which the plastic film interlayer does not extend to the bag opening edge. The remaining section, which in this embodiment does not protrude beyond the opening-side edge of the plastic film interlayer, is usually the larger of the two sections in terms of area.
[0012] In the first embodiment of the plastic film bag according to the invention, the opening-side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer is not connected to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall. Expediently, the plastic film intermediate layer is not connected to the plastic film front wall and / or, in particular, the plastic film rear wall, except for the connection along the bottom edge or spaced from the bottom edge to the plastic film rear wall and the connection of the first side edge to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall in the region of the first side boundary and the connection of the second side edge to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall in the region of the second side boundary.
[0013] Particularly expedient embodiments of the plastic film bags according to the invention are also characterized in that the first side edge of the plastic film front wall and the first side edge of the plastic film rear wall are connected, in particular welded, to one another to form a first side boundary. Alternatively, and in particular additionally, it can be provided that the second side edge of the plastic film front wall and the second side edge of the plastic film rear wall are connected, in particular welded, to one another to form a second side boundary.
[0014] In expedient embodiments of the plastic film bags according to the invention, the plastic film bag bottom is located at the transition from the plastic film front wall to the plastic film rear wall and can be designed, for example, in the form of a fold, crease, or weld seam. Preferably, the bag bottom represents the transition from the bag front wall to the bag rear wall. The bag front and rear walls are preferably formed as a single piece.
[0015] The liquid-absorbing material of the first and second layers is preferably water-absorbing material or material capable of absorbing alcoholic liquids such as methanol or ethanol. The first and / or, in particular, the second layer of liquid-absorbing material can be designed, for example, as a nonwoven layer. Alternatively, other textile layers can also be used for this purpose, for example in the form of woven, knitted, or warp-knitted fabrics. The liquid-absorbing effect can be attributed in particular to capillary effects of the layer material and / or, in particular, to the hygroscopic properties of the liquid-absorbing material, in particular the nonwoven material. Suitable liquid-absorbing materials include, for example, fiber materials and sponges.Suitable fiber materials include, for example, thermoplastic fibers such as polyolefin fibers such as polyethylene fibers, polyester fibers such as polyethylene terephthalate fibers, and also polyamide fibers, as well as cellulose-based fibers.
[0016] The first layer can be connected directly or indirectly to the back of the plastic film interlayer. With a direct connection, the first layer lies directly against the plastic film interlayer and is connected to it, in particular by gluing or welding, with the latter being preferred. Furthermore, the second layer can also be connected directly or indirectly to the plastic film backsheet. With a direct connection, the second layer lies directly against the plastic film backsheet and is connected to it, in particular by gluing or welding, with the latter being preferred.
[0017] In the case of indirect connection of the first layer to the back of the plastic film intermediate layer, a preferred embodiment provides a further plastic film layer connected to the front of the first layer, via which the first layer is connected to the back of the plastic film intermediate layer. This further plastic film layer is preferably made of the same material as the plastic film front wall, plastic film back wall, and plastic film intermediate layer. In this way, a substantially single-material product can be obtained. To fix the first layer, the further carbon template is connected to the plastic film intermediate layer, particularly by gluing or welding.
[0018] In the case of indirect connection of the second layer to the plastic film back wall, a preferred embodiment provides an additional plastic film layer connected to the back of the second layer, via which the second layer is connected to the plastic film back wall. This additional plastic film layer is also preferably made of the same material as the plastic film front wall, plastic film back wall, and plastic film intermediate layer. To fix the second layer, the additional carbon template is connected to the plastic film back wall, particularly by gluing or welding.
[0019] The connection of the plastic film intermediate layer to the plastic film rear wall extends in the plastic film bag according to the invention from or at a distance from the first side boundary in the direction of or up to the second side boundary, in particular from the first side boundary to the second side boundary.
[0020] Such plastic film bags according to the invention are particularly preferred in which the first side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer is connected to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall in the region of the first side boundary. Alternatively, and in particular additionally, it can be provided that the second side edge of the plastic film intermediate layer is connected to the plastic film front wall and the plastic film rear wall in the region of the second side boundary.
[0021] Of particular advantage, particularly for machine production, is also an embodiment in which the plastic film front wall, the plastic film back wall and the plastic film bag bottom are formed in one piece.
[0022] Thermoplastics are advantageously used for the plastic film front wall, the plastic film rear wall, the plastic film intermediate layer, and optionally the additional plastic film layer, with polyester, especially polyethylene terephthalate, and polyolefins, especially polyethylene, being preferred. Polyethylene is particularly preferred.
[0023] If thermoplastics are used for the plastic film intermediate layer, the plastic film back wall and the first layer and, if applicable, for the further plastic film layer, the first layer can preferably be connected to the plastic film intermediate layer or the plastic film back wall by means of thermoplastic welding.
[0024] In particularly expedient embodiments, the plastic film bags according to the invention can have a bag closure, in particular a resealable one, in the region of the bag opening.
[0025] In particular, in order to obtain a larger volume, the plastic film bags according to the invention can also be equipped with a first plastic film side wall or a second plastic film side wall, but in particular with a first and a second plastic film side wall.
[0026] The plastic film bags according to the invention are also particularly suitable as shipping bags, especially for liquid samples. In this case, plastic film bags according to the invention are particularly suitable if they are equipped with a, particularly resealable, bag closure in the area of the bag opening.
[0027] The present invention is accompanied by the surprising discovery that shipping goods in the form of liquid samples can be transported safely and reliably using plastic film bags, and these plastic film bags can be manufactured cost-effectively in large-scale mass production. Even if the liquid samples are damaged during transport, it can be reliably ensured that any leaked liquid is absorbed and prevented from escaping from the transport container, and that any other goods being transported in the plastic film bag are not affected.
