Description

[0001] The invention relates to a method for the energy-efficient renovation of an existing building, wherein an exterior wall of the existing building is covered with at least one prefabricated flat facade element. In this context, the invention particularly concerns the creation of new reveals in window and door areas.

[0002] DE 10 2021 107 398 A1 describes a method for energy-efficient building renovation, which involves covering the exterior walls of existing buildings with prefabricated flat facade elements. The facade elements include window and door openings that can be aligned with the window and door openings in the existing walls. To implement this method, the existing window and door frames were previously dismantled, and the resulting damaged window reveals were repaired on site using drywall construction and extended to the inside of the exterior wall. The space between the exterior wall and the facade element was also lined on site with a film that was sealed airtight at the edges. This procedure is complex and involves considerable construction work, including in the interior of the existing apartment.

[0003] The object of the invention is to provide a solution to make the creation of new reveals and window or door frames more efficient during such a renovation.

[0004] Against this background, the invention relates to a method for the energy-efficient renovation of an existing building, wherein an outer wall of the existing building is covered with at least one prefabricated flat facade element in such a way that a gap is created between the outer wall and the facade element, wherein the outer wall has at least one window or door opening with an existing frame in the covered area, and wherein the facade element has a correspondingly positioned and dimensioned window or door opening in which a new frame is integrated. According to the invention, it is provided that a reveal box with preferably four cheeks is introduced into the area between the outer wall and the facade element in order to form a new reveal that bridges the gap. The reveal box is preferably connected to the new frame and to a mounting frame located on the side of the outer wall.

[0005] The invention does not necessarily require a complete covering of one or all of the exterior walls of the existing building with the typically multiple facade elements, but it is also to be regarded as inventive if only a part of the exterior walls of the existing building are covered, or if the exterior wall or walls are only partially covered with the facade elements.

[0006] In one embodiment, the reveal box is inserted from the inside into the area between the exterior wall and the facade element. The "inside" direction here refers to the interior of the existing building. Alternatively, the reveal box can be attached to the facade element before it is installed on the building's exterior wall.

[0007] In one embodiment, the reveal box is inserted into the area between the exterior wall and the facade element in a final state. The final state is the final state the reveal box assumes to form the new reveal.

[0008] In one embodiment, the reveal box is inserted in a preliminary state into the area between the outer wall and the facade element, wherein the cheeks of the reveal box are disassembled or folded in the preliminary state. The cheeks are only assembled or expanded into a final state in the area between the outer wall and the facade element. The preliminary state can be a disassembled form in which the cheeks of the reveal box are separated from one another, wherein the cheeks preferably have contours or interfaces that allow the cheeks to be joined together by means of a plug-in connection in order to be able to assemble them into the final state of the reveal box. Alternatively, the preliminary state can be a folded form in which at least some of the cheeks are split in two and in which the cheeks or parts of the cheeks are connected by hinges. The reveal box can also be transported to the existing building in a preliminary state as described.

[0009] In one embodiment, the existing frame is removed before the reveal box is inserted into the area between the outer wall and the facade element and the mounting frame is attached to the reveal of the outer wall.

[0010] In another embodiment, the existing frame is retained in whole or in part. The existing frame can be reduced in width, preferably by sawing. The frame width in the frontal view is taken into account. The mounting frame can then be attached directly to the existing frame. In different variants of the invention, the mounting frame can be arranged on the inside or outside of the existing frame. A circumferential seal can be provided to seal the mounting frame from the existing frame and / or the exterior wall.

[0011] For all designs and seals, sealing refers to the sealing effect that prevents the required air passage and thus also the transport of smoke, fire gases, and moisture. For seals facing the exterior, which may be exposed to the elements, sealing also refers to impermeability to driving rain.

[0012] In one embodiment, the facade element has an inwardly open U-profile in the area of the new frame, into which the cheeks of the reveal box are inserted from the inside. The direction "inside" here also refers to the interior of the existing building. In one embodiment, the U-profile includes at least one circumferential seal in its receptacle, which seals off the cheeks of the reveal box.

[0013] In one embodiment, the U-profile is attached directly to the new frame. A circumferential seal can be provided to seal the U-profile against the frame.

[0014] In one embodiment, a tolerance frame is arranged between the facade element and the new frame, allowing the new frame to be adjusted relative to the facade element in at least one, preferably two, spatial directions parallel to the existing wall. In one embodiment, circumferential seals are provided to seal the tolerance frame from the facade element and the new frame.

[0015] In one embodiment, the reveal box is placed at the bottom on a bracket that is attached to the existing wall at a position outside the existing frame. The bracket preferably has adjusting screws for horizontal and vertical alignment.

[0016] In one embodiment, the cheeks of the reveal box are lined on their non-visible rear sides with a flame-retardant or non-combustible insulating material to form a fire-retardant, highly fire-retardant, fire-resistant or highly fire-resistant reveal box.

[0017] Further details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following exemplary embodiments illustrated by the figures. The figures show: Fig. 1: an isometric representation of components of the reveal box, together with a building exterior wall including existing window frames and a front facade element including a new window frame; Fig. 2a-g: representations of the "minimally invasive solution", comprising a horizontal section through the reveal box ( Fig. 2a ), detailed views in the area of the inventory frame ( Fig. 2b ) and the new framework ( Fig. 2c ), an isometric view of the connection of the reveal box to the new frame ( Fig. 2d ), a representation of the process of inserting the reveal box ( Fig. 2e ) and representations of the console on the existing wall ( Fig. 2f-g ); Fig. 3a-b: Representations of the "saw solution", including a horizontal section through the reveal box ( Fig. 3a ) and a detailed view in the area of the inventory frame ( Fig. 3b ); Fig. 4a-b: Representations of the "dismantling solution", including a horizontal section through the reveal box ( Fig. 4a ) and a detailed view in the area of the inventory frame ( Fig. 4b ); Fig. 5a-h: Representations of the "double window solution", including a horizontal section through the reveal box ( Fig. 5a ), as well as detailed illustrations of a first ("insertion") variant of the and a second ("folding box") variant of the double window solution ( Fig. 5b-d or Fig. 5e-h ).

[0018] The essential elements of the invention are in Fig. 1 shown in an overview illustration. The invention is based on a method for serial building renovation, in which an exterior wall 4 of an existing building is covered with at least one prefabricated flat facade element 7. A gap 20 is created between the exterior wall 4 and the facade element 7. The gap 20 can be filled with thermal insulation. Alternatively or additionally, the facade element 7 can also be thermally insulated. The distance between the exterior wall 4 and the facade element 7 is often between 5 and 15 cm, whereby the exterior wall 4 can have significant unevenness and the distance can vary accordingly.

[0019] According to the invention, existing frames 3 in the exterior wall 4 of the existing building are connected to corresponding new frames 6, which are integrated into the facade element 7. For this purpose, the inventive method uses so-called reveal boxes 1 with four cheeks, which form the new reveals. The cheeks can be made of wood-based materials, fiber-reinforced panels, cement or gypsum, or polymers. The surfaces of the cheeks are preferably treated or coated to be durable and robust against mechanical influences and to protect the material from moisture. For thermal insulation and compliance with fire protection requirements, the cheeks of the reveal box 1 are lined on the non-visible rear sides with an insulating material 19, for example, mineral wool. Overall, the reveal box 1 can be made of normal or flame-retardant or non-combustible materials and can thus be adapted to individual fire protection requirements. This allows the reveal to be fire-retardant, highly fire-retardant, fire-resistant, or highly fire-resistant. The lower cheek of the reveal box 1 can be horizontal, but can also be inclined outward if necessary.

[0020] The existing frames 3 and the new frames 6 can be window or door frames. The following description uses window frames as an example, but also applies to door frames.

[0021] Four variants of the method according to the invention are described in more detail below. These variants are referred to as the "minimally invasive solution," the "sawing solution," the "dismantling solution," and the "double-window solution."

[0022] The "minimally invasive solution" is used in Fig. 2a-g shown. It involves attaching a mounting frame 2 to the inside of the existing frame 3. With this variant, the window sash is removed before installing the reveal box 1. The mounting frame 2 can be made of wood or wood-based materials, for example, but also of polymers. The existing frame 3 remains and is concealed by the cheeks of the reveal box 1 and the inside mounting frame 2. The reveal box 1 is slightly smaller than the existing window frame opening and is inserted into it from the inside.

[0023] The mounting frame 2 can be sealed against the existing wall 4 with a circumferential seal 10. As an alternative to attachment to the existing frame 3, the mounting frame 2 can also be attached directly to the reveal of the existing wall 4, e.g., with a screw-dowel connection. Particular attention must be paid to ensuring sufficient contact pressure on the seal 10 to seal the joint even if the existing wall 4 is uneven.

[0024] To accommodate the outer ends of the cheeks of the reveal box 1, the facade element 7 has an inwardly open U-profile 5 with an integrated seal 12 in the area of the new frame 6. The U-profile 5 can already be attached directly to the new frame 6 at the factory. The joint formed between the two can be sealed with a seal 18. On site, the reveal box 1 can be inserted into the U-profile 5. In one variant, this can be achieved as a simple plug-in connection without additional fastening means. In another variant, the cheeks of the reveal box are additionally provided with front-end connecting pins 16, which are inserted through holes in the U-profile into bores 17 in the new frame 6. To simplify insertion, the outer ends of the cheeks of the reveal box 1 can have chamfered edges 15.

[0025] An adjustable tolerance frame 11, which is positioned between the facade element 7 and the new frame 6, offers the possibility of compensating for dimensional deviations of up to approximately 30 mm in the vertical and horizontal direction parallel to the existing wall 4, which can arise from deviations in measurements and from manufacturing or assembly tolerances. The tolerance frame 11 can be made of wood or wood-based materials, for example, and can be protected from the effects of weather by construction or by a coating, glaze, or varnish. Circumferential seals 25 and 13 seal the tolerance frame 11 against the facade element 7 and the new frame 6.

[0026] After inserting the reveal box 1, the inner ends of the stringers are attached to a mounting frame 2 on site, for example, using wood screws 21. An optional pressure strip 9 can increase the contact pressure on a circumferential seal 14, which seals the joint between the stringers and the mounting frame 2. Finally, the structure can be covered with a decorative strip 8 facing the living area. The decorative strip can be L-shaped or rectangular, for example.

[0027] Due to the firm connection of the inner ends of the stringers to the mounting frame 2, the stringers are fixed in their position and can no longer slip out of the U-profile 5 at the outer end. However, since they can slide back and forth within the U-profile 5, they are not subjected to any constraint forces, for example, due to wind- or temperature-related changes in the distance between the facade element 7 and the exterior wall 4.

[0028] One only in Fig. 2e recognizable and in Fig. 2f-g The bracket 24 shown in detail can be attached to the existing wall 4 or an existing exterior window sill to support the transfer of forces into the existing wall. The bracket 24 can be equipped with adjusting screws 23 and prefabricated mounts 22, such as threaded sleeves or countersunk nuts, which enable horizontal and vertical alignment.

[0029] The "saw solution" is Fig. 3a-b It differs from the minimally invasive solution in that the existing frame 3 is reduced in its frontal view in its frame width, e.g. by sawing off a part, and thus only partially remains. This has the advantage that the incidence of light into the interior is greater, but the disadvantage of a certain additional work on the construction site. However, reference can be made to the description of the minimally invasive solution. In particular, the representations of the Fig. 2c-g also applies to the sawing solution, which is why these representations for the sawing solution are not shown again separately.

[0030] The "dismantling solution" is Fig. 4a-b It differs from the minimally invasive solution and the sawing solution in that the existing frame 3 is completely removed. This has the advantage that the incidence of light into the interior is even greater than with the sawing solution, but the disadvantage of greater additional work on the construction site. The reveal box 1 covers any damage that may have occurred, for example, due to the dismantling of the existing frame 3. This does not require repair. The mounting frame 2 must necessarily be fastened directly in the reveal of the outer wall 4. Otherwise, reference can also be made to the description of the minimally invasive solution. In particular, the illustrations of the Fig. 2c-g also applies to the disassembly solution, which is why these illustrations for the disassembly solution are not shown again separately.

[0031] Another, in Fig. 5a The generally described variant of the method is referred to here as the "double-pane solution." It differs from the minimally invasive solution in that the mounting frame 2 is attached to the outside of the existing frame 3, so that the existing frame 3 is not covered by the cheeks of the reveal box 1 and can continue to be used. This opens up the possibility of a double-pane window involving the existing frame 3 and the existing window sash.

[0032] In the double window solution variant, it is not possible to bring the reveal box 1 in its final state into its final position from the inside through the existing window frame opening due to space constraints, as the reveal box 1 is slightly larger than the existing window frame opening.

[0033] Therefore, in the variant of the double window solution, it can be provided that the reveal box 1 is inserted through the existing window frame opening in a preliminary state in which it is compressed or divided and only then is it expanded or assembled into a final state.

[0034] In a variant, as shown in Fig. 5b-d , the cheeks of the reveal box 1 are pushed separately from the inside through the existing window frame opening and only joined together to form the reveal box 1 after being brought into this space. In this variant, the inside leg 5a of the U-profile 5 can be shorter than the outside leg in order to enable or facilitate screwing in while simultaneously pushing the cheeks into the U-profile 5. The inside leg 5a of the U-profile 5 here means the leg that is not covered by the reveal box 1, and the outside leg of the U-profile 5 means the leg that is covered by the reveal box 1 in the final state.

[0035] The upper and lower cheeks can have a screwed-on stop 29 with a circumferential seal 30 on their flanks. After screwing and simultaneously pushing the two cheeks into the U-profile, this enables their attachment to the mounting frame 2, for example, using wood screws 21 and pressure strip 9. These also provide the necessary contact pressure for the seal 30. The two side cheeks can then be screwed and simultaneously pushed into the U-profile 5 using the same principle. Milled grooves or ribs on the edges of the cheeks can promote a precise fit.

[0036] In another variant, as shown in Fig. 5e-h, the reveal box 1 can be designed as a folding box which, starting from a folded preliminary state, can be expanded into an unfolded final state. In this variant, the cheeks of the reveal box 1 can be mitered and manufactured with milled grooves and provided with seals 27. The folding and unfolding of the cheeks can be made possible, for example, by hinges 26. The reveal box 1 can be positioned in its preliminary state between the existing frame 3 and the new frame 6, and then unfolded and pushed into the U-profile 5. When pushed into the U-profile 5 in this way, a gap 28 is created on the mounting frame 2, which gap can be covered by the optional pressure strip 9.

[0037] Another possibility for realising the double window solution, not shown in the figures, is that the reveal box 1 already hangs on the facade element 7 in its final state when the latter is attached to the building's outer wall 4.

[0038] The folding and plug-in variants of the reveal box 1 previously described in connection with the double-glazed window solution can also be used for the minimally invasive solution, the sawing solution, and the disassembly solution to reduce the transport volume of the prefabricated reveal box 1 to the construction site. In this case, the reveal box 1 is transported to the construction site in its pre-assembled state. There, it can be expanded or plugged together into its final state before being inserted through the existing window frame opening.

[0039] Each of the seals 10, 12, 13, 14, 18, 25, 27, and 30 can be individually manufactured from materials used in window construction, for example, polymers such as silicone, EPDM, or thermoplastic elastomers (TPE). Seals 13 and 25, which are exposed to the outside and are naturally exposed to the elements, must be UV-stable and resistant to driving rain. This does not necessarily apply to seals 10, 12, 14, 18, 27, and 30. Flexible joint tapes suitable for indoor use can also be used here.

[0040] Since the reveal box 1 in the presented variants is designed as a plug-and-screw system, the bridging, closing, and sealing of the gap 20 between the existing frame 3 and the new frame 6 in the facade element 7 is carried out easily and with little effort on site at the construction site. Sealants and foil seals are not required. The reveal box 1 thus requires no sealants or foils, meeting the building physics and fire protection requirements for tightness. Dismantling is simple, and the concept therefore also supports easy inspection of the gap 20, along with any utility and electrical installations located therein.
