Description

[0001] The invention relates to a packaging unit for a device, preferably for a household appliance.

[0002] It is common practice and well-known to enclose and protect goods or products for transport using packaging. Packaging generally refers to the outer covering or partial or complete wrapping of an item or entity, particularly for its protection or ease of handling. Such packaging is also used for transporting household appliances such as SDAs (small domestic appliances).

[0003] Currently, industry-standard folding boxes, such as those compliant with FEFCO 0201, are used. FEFCO 0201 stands for a standard folding carton with center-jointed outer flaps. These folding boxes consist of a blank with a factory edge joined by gluing the flaps, as well as lid and bottom flaps, which are used to seal the folding box with adhesive tape. Cardboard is typically used as the material, which can be relatively easily disposed of by the user with waste paper and recycled in a resource-saving manner.

[0004] Also known are folding sleeves made from a single blank, with all side panels and the lid hinged to the bottom. This design includes locking devices (e.g., tuck-in flaps) and handles.

[0005] EP 3 792 195 A1 describes a packaging for an object. The packaging comprises a sealable outer carton and cushioning elements for insertion at the top and bottom into the interior of the outer carton. The cushioning elements comprise shaped buffer elements on their periphery for securely supporting the cushioning element on the inside against the side walls of the outer carton. The cushioning elements further comprise a recess for precisely accommodating the object to be packaged. Finally, the packaging according to the invention comprises a support insert which, together with the cushioning element, defines a packaging space for the object to be packaged within the outer carton. The support insert extends at a distance from the side walls of the outer carton and forms at least part of a side wall of the packaging space.

[0006] If such posters or similar packaging components, also known as packing media, are used to protect the device from the sides, top, and / or bottom, these packing media must be removed by the buyer or user during or after unpacking, which may require additional steps and thus additional effort for the person. These packing media may also fall out, which can be particularly annoying. This makes unpacking a cumbersome process.

[0007] The disadvantage of such packaging designs is that they do not offer the user or customer a positive unpacking experience, as the product has to be removed from the packaging and then freed from the packaging media, which disrupts the unpacking experience.

[0008] Another disadvantage is that the packaging designs currently in use are the same or comparable for all product manufacturers. Therefore, it is currently not possible to differentiate between different product manufacturers, for example, of household appliances, based on the packaging design used.

[0009] It's important to note that brand design is becoming increasingly important for packaging, too, and is intended to offer customers an unboxing experience and an appealing product presentation. Unboxing videos are increasingly being uploaded online. This is common practice for smaller electronic devices, such as smartphones and headphones. Thus, the unboxing experience in the form of a good product presentation is becoming increasingly important for the customer. The product or device should be the focus and present itself to the customer in the most positive way possible. However, for the reasons mentioned above, good product presentation has not usually been achieved to date.

[0010] In order to fix and further protect the product, such as the household appliance, within the folding box or carton, the use of packaging parts made of expanded polystyrene (EPS), also known as Styrofoam, in foamed form is known.

[0011] The disadvantage is that these packaging components require additional disposal and are comparatively expensive to recycle compared to folding boxes. This creates a negative image among consumers as being resource-inefficient and therefore unsustainable. For sustainability reasons, plastics should be minimized or even eliminated entirely as packaging materials. This includes, for example, EPS (Styrofoam), as well as films and film bags.

[0012] As an alternative, for example, fiber molded parts or fiber cast parts made from largely recycled paper fibers or film bags made from recycled material are known, which can be used instead of EPS in such packaging.

[0013] Therefore, these devices are typically packaged in various packaging materials to ensure product protection. The interior of the packaging is usually made of EPS or fiber-based molded or cast fiber parts. The device is also packaged in a one-piece outer carton, which is traditionally opened at the top and sealed with adhesive tape. The outer carton partially provides structural support but is primarily used for marketing and printing.

[0014] The invention therefore addresses the problem of providing a packaging unit for a device or for a product, and in particular for a household appliance, so that unpacking the device or product can be carried out comparatively easily for the person as buyer or user. In particular, the product presentation or the experience of unpacking the device or product should be improved. In particular, unpacking should be able to take place with as few steps as possible for the person. In particular, the unpacking experience should not be impaired by further unpacking steps being necessary after the person has already seen the device. The packaging unit should preferably be perceived by the person as being high-quality and suitable for the device or product. In any case, it should preferably be possible to do without plastic materials. In any case, it should preferably be possible to use recycled materials. At least an alternative to the familiar packaging unit for devices or products should be created.

[0015] According to the invention, this problem is solved by a packaging unit having the features of independent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments and further developments of the invention emerge from the following dependent claims.

[0016] The invention thus relates to a packaging unit for an appliance, preferably for a household appliance, having a first outer part and a second outer part, which are designed to completely enclose the appliance to be packaged on the outside, preferably in a cuboid shape, wherein the two outer parts can be connected to and separated from one another in a relative movement along the horizontal longitudinal axis, furthermore having at least one packaging part which is arranged within the first outer part and / or the second outer part, wherein the packaging part and / or an outer part is / are designed such that the packaging part is held within one of the two outer parts when the two outer parts are separated along the horizontal longitudinal axis.

[0017] This allows the device to be completely enclosed by the two-part packaging unit. This can be done, in particular, in a cuboid shape, which can facilitate secure stacking of the packaging units during transport and storage. It can also provide the largest possible interior space.

[0018] Since the two outer parts of the packaging unit are movable relative to each other along the horizontal longitudinal axis and can be connected and separated accordingly along the horizontal longitudinal axis, the person as purchaser or user of the packaged device can place the packaging unit horizontally on a surface and then pull the two outer parts away from each other, or one outer part away from the other, to release the packaged device. Both outer parts can then be completely removed by the person, one after the other.

[0019] This can allow for safe unpacking, as the device doesn't have to be lifted off the ground, preventing it from falling. Unpacking can also be comparatively easy, comfortable, and / or quick for the person unpacking, as the device doesn't have to be lifted during unpacking.

[0020] This also applies to the packing of the device by the manufacturer or its employees.

[0021] This type of unpacking can also offer the user a certain experience because the device becomes relatively directly visible when the two outer parts of the packaging unit are pulled apart.

[0022] Designing the packaging part and / or an outer part in such a way that the packaging part is held within one of the two outer parts when the two outer parts are separated along the horizontal longitudinal axis can make it possible for a defined separation of the outer parts and the packaging part or several packaging parts to take place, ie that the packaging part is connected to that outer part and is moved along with this outer part when the two outer parts are separated.

[0023] In other words, if such a hold were not provided, a packaging part that extends across both outer parts, i.e., is located within both outer parts, such as a base part, could remain more or less randomly in one or the other outer part when the outer parts are separated. This could impair the unpacking experience or would contradict a defined behavior of the packaging part during unpacking, which could tarnish the corresponding impression for the person.

[0024] Likewise, a packaging part, such as a side panel located next to the device, could tip over when the outer parts are separated, or a top panel located on top of the device could fall off when the outer parts are separated, either of which could also impair the impression or experience of unpacking. Thus, such packaging parts can be held in place while the outer parts are separated. If the packaging part is a top panel located at the front of the device, the person unpacking the device can have a clear view of the device because the packaging part remains in the corresponding outer part.

[0025] According to one aspect of the invention, the base part and the top part are configured and designed to be immobile relative to one another during connection and movable relative to one another, and to be moved away from one another during separation. This ensures that, during connection, the top part, together with the base part and thus also with the household appliance, is easily and precisely positioned in at least one of the outer parts. During separation, the then unwanted and no longer required top part can remain in one of the outer parts, while the base part and thus also the household appliance can be completely removed from one of the outer parts.

[0026] According to one aspect of the invention, the packaging part is held within the outer part in a force-locking manner, preferably by a preferably local oversize of the packaging part and / or the outer part along the horizontal transverse axis. This can represent one possibility for implementing such a hold. This can be achieved in a comparatively simple and flexible manner, and can also be released by applying the appropriate force.

[0027] Preferably, the packaging part, preferably a stable molded fiber part, can have a slight or small oversize, so that the connection or joining of the outer part and the packaging part can be carried out easily, yet the frictional connection is sufficiently strong. This causes the packaging part to clamp into the respective outer part. It is also possible for the packaging part not to have a general oversize, but rather to have an oversize locally or via several segments. This can increase the design flexibility.

[0028] According to a further aspect of the invention, the packaging part is held in a form-fitting manner, preferably by slats, a barb, and / or an undercut of the packaging part and / or the outer part, along the horizontal longitudinal axis, counter to the connection direction of the outer parts, within the outer part. This can represent an alternative possibility for implementing such a hold.

[0029] For this purpose, the packaging part or the outer part can preferably have segments shaped like a kind of lamella or barb. This minimizes the insertion force. When pulled out, the lamellae or barbs press against the surface of the contact partner.

[0030] It's also conceivable for the outer part to have an undercut. When inserted, the packaging part slides over the undercut, or vice versa. When the outer parts are separated, the undercut prevents the packaging part from being pulled out of the outer part.

[0031] According to a further aspect of the invention, the first outer part is designed to be overlapped, preferably completely, by an edge of the second outer part along the horizontal longitudinal axis, or vice versa. This can enable a transition from the outer outer part to the inner outer part precisely at the edge(s), which can create a more pleasant outward impression for the person.

[0032] According to a further aspect of the invention, the packaging part is held on the household appliance when the two outer parts are connected. In particular, the packaging part is configured and designed to be inserted into one of the two outer parts along the horizontal longitudinal axis when the two outer parts are connected to the household appliance. This ensures that the packaging part can be positioned on the household appliance as intended and within the field of vision of the person working on it before connecting the two outer parts, i.e., before inserting the packaging part and the household appliance into at least one of the outer parts.According to a further aspect of the invention, the first outer part has at least one tab receptacle on at least one edge, preferably on a plurality of edges, and the second outer part has at least one tab on at least one edge, preferably on a plurality of edges, which is designed to engage in the corresponding tab receptacle of the first outer part and to connect the two outer parts to one another in a form-fitting manner along the horizontal longitudinal axis, or vice versa.

[0033] This can provide a particularly simple, cost-effective, and / or intuitive way for the user to connect the two outer parts. It can also enable repeated, and thus non-destructive, closing and opening of the positive connection. If necessary, the closed tabs can be secured or sealed with a sticker or similar device.

[0034] According to a further aspect of the invention, the first outer part has at least one carrying handle, preferably as a handle recess, and / or the second outer part has at least one carrying handle, preferably as a handle recess. For this purpose, the corresponding sections of the surfaces of the outer parts can be pressed in by the person and folded inward. In either case, this can make carrying the packaging unit easier for the person.

[0035] According to a further aspect of the invention, the first outer part and the second outer part are formed as corrugated cardboard parts. This can enable the implementation of the corresponding properties and advantages in the packaging unit according to the invention.

[0036] According to a further aspect of the invention, the first outer part has at least one flap to allow the user to access the interior of the two interconnected outer parts through the opened flap, and / or the second outer part has at least one flap to allow the user to access the interior of the two interconnected outer parts through the opened flap.

[0037] Thus, for example, an instruction manual, accessories and the like of the device can be arranged as additional elements inside the connected outer parts in order to be transported together. These additional elements can be placed there during packaging at the factory with the outer parts separated so as to avoid having to use the flap for this purpose. Accordingly, the flap can be factory-unused and, for example, connected or formed as one piece, i.e. integral with the rest of the outer part, but preferably perforated, so that it can be easily severed or detachable. In any case, the person can then reach the additional elements through the open flap without having to open or separate the packaging unit itself.

[0038] According to a further aspect of the invention, the packaging part is a base part which is designed to receive the device from above along the vertical axis, wherein the base part extends horizontally over its entire surface within the two outer parts when the two outer parts are connected to one another.

[0039] This can provide additional protection for the packaged device. It can also make it easier to arrange the device, including the base, within the two outer compartments.

[0040] According to a further aspect of the invention, the base part is designed and constructed so as to remain stationary relative to one of the two outer parts when the two outer parts are separated. This ensures that the other of the two outer parts is moved horizontally away from the base part with the household appliance and / or the base part with one of the two outer parts and with the household appliance can be pulled horizontally out of the other of the two outer parts. This makes unpacking possible without the appliance having to change its vertical position, or only slightly so. In the case of a coffee machine, this can therefore be easily and effectively unpacked by the customer close to its final installation location on the worktop. For this purpose, it is provided in particular that the base part and one of the two outer parts are coupled to one another.

[0041] According to a further aspect of the invention, the base part has an edge projecting upwards along the vertical axis, which is designed to hold the accommodated device in a form-fitting manner in the horizontal direction. This can easily improve the lateral support of the device within the connected outer parts.

[0042] According to a further aspect of the invention, the packaging part is a side part, which is designed to be arranged laterally relative to the device along the horizontal longitudinal axis in the first outer part or in the second outer part. This can enable support of the device in this direction to improve the lateral support of the device along the horizontal longitudinal axis within the connected outer parts. This can also enable protection of the device in this direction.

[0043] Preferably, the side panel can be designed to encompass the accommodated device at least partially above and / or laterally, which can improve the protection and stability of the device within the packaging unit. The side panel can also be held to the device in this way.

[0044] According to a further aspect of the invention, the side part is further configured to be arranged along the vertical axis on the base part. For this purpose, the side part can be held in the base part, in particular, in a form-fitting manner. In any case, this can enable or improve the stability of the side part during packaging.

[0045] According to a further aspect of the invention, the side part is further configured to accommodate at least one additional element of the device such that the user can reach the additional element through the open flap. This can enable a further development of the corresponding previously described feature in such a way that the additional element can be positioned in a defined manner and thus be more easily accessible.

[0046] According to a further aspect of the invention, the packaging part is an upper part, which is designed to be arranged on the device from above along the vertical axis, preferably opposite a side part along the horizontal longitudinal axis. For this purpose, the upper part can be held by the device in a form-fitting manner. In any case, this can enable further protection and / or further support at this point within the connected outer parts.

[0047] According to a further aspect of the invention, the base part, the side part, and / or the top part is / are formed as a fiber molded part. This can enable the implementation of the corresponding properties and advantages in the packaging unit according to the invention. Alternatively, the use of molded parts made of EPS would also be possible.

[0048] According to a further aspect of the invention, the device to be packaged is a coffee maker. This can enable the use of the previously described properties and advantages precisely with such a device, which can thus be unpacked more easily, quickly, and / or safely than previously known. Furthermore, especially with a coffee maker, the unpacking experience can be particularly enhanced as described above, or perceived and appreciated by a person.

[0049] Terms such as horizontal and vertical, top and bottom refer explicitly to the intended storage of the packaging unit during packing or connecting the outer parts of the packaging unit, and during unpacking or separating the outer parts of the packaging unit. This refers to the generally understood reference to the gravitational field of a planet.

[0050] An embodiment of the invention is shown purely schematically in the drawings and is described in more detail below. Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a device to be packaged in the form of a coffee machine; Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a base part of a packaging unit according to the invention; Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a side part as the rear part of the packaging unit according to the invention; Figure 4 shows a perspective view of an upper part of the packaging unit according to the invention; Figure 5 shows a perspective view of a first outer part as the rear outer part of the packaging unit according to the invention; Figure 6 shows a perspective view of a second outer part as the front outer part of the packaging unit according to the invention; Figure 7 shows a perspective view of the device to be packaged by means of the packaging unit according to the invention in a first packaging step; Figure 8 shows the view of the Figure 7 in a second packaging step; Figure 9 shows the Figure 7in a third packaging step; Figure 10 the representation of the Figure 7 in a fourth packaging step; Figure 11 the representation of the Figure 7 in a fifth packaging step; Figure 12 the representation of the Figure 7 in a sixth packaging step; Figure 13 shows a perspective cross-section of the second, front outer part with the upper part clamped; Figure 14 shows a perspective longitudinal section of the second, front outer part with the upper part clamped; and Figure 15 shows a perspective top view of the second, front outer part with the upper part clamped.

[0051] The above figures are viewed in Cartesian coordinates. There is a horizontal longitudinal axis X, which can also be referred to as depth X or length X. Perpendicular to the horizontal longitudinal axis X extends a transverse axis Y, which can also be referred to as width Y. Perpendicular to both the horizontal longitudinal axis X and the transverse axis Y extends a vertical axis Z, which can also be referred to as height Z and corresponds to the direction of gravity. The horizontal longitudinal axis X and the transverse axis Y together form the horizontal X, Y, which can also be referred to as the horizontal plane X, Y.

[0052] Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a device 2 to be packaged in the form of a coffee maker 2. The coffee maker 2 represents a household appliance 2 or a product 2 which can be packaged by means of a packaging unit 1 according to the invention.

[0053] The packaging unit 1 according to the invention has a base part 10 or a lower part 10 as one of several packaging parts 10, 11, 12, cf. Figure 2 , onto which the device 2 to be packaged is placed from above along the vertical axis Z, cf. Figure 7 . The device 2 is held in a form-fitting manner in the horizontal X, Y, ie laterally, by an edge projecting upwards along the vertical axis Z.

[0054] The packaging unit 1 according to the invention also has a side part 11 or a rear part 11 as a further one of several packaging parts 10, 11, 12, cf. Figure 3 , which is set up along the horizontal longitudinal axis X next to or behind the device 2 from above along the vertical axis Z onto the lower part 10 projecting beyond the device 2, cf. Figure 8 .

[0055] Now, an upper part 12 is used as a further one of several packaging parts 10, 11, 12 of the packaging unit 1 according to the invention, cf. Figure 4 , placed opposite the side part 11 along the horizontal longitudinal axis X and along the vertical axis Z from above onto the device 2, cf. Figure 9 . The base part 10, the side part 11 and the upper part 12 are formed as fiber molded parts.

[0056] In this arrangement, the base part 10 together with the received device 2 is inserted along the horizontal longitudinal axis X into a first, rear outer part 13 of the packaging unit 1 according to the invention, cf. Figure 5 , pushed, see also Figure 9 . Placing the upper part 12 and pushing in the device 2 can also be done in the reverse order.

[0057] In any case, the base part 10 has a certain excess along the horizontal transverse axis Y where the base part 10 is pushed into the first, rear outer part 13, so that the base part 10 and the first, rear outer part 13 are connected to each other with sufficient frictional connection, ie the base part 10 is clamped in the first, rear outer part 13, in order to be held together later during unpacking.

[0058] Now a second, front outer part 14 of the packaging unit 1 according to the invention, cf. Figure 6 , pushed along the horizontal longitudinal axis X over the base part 10 together with the received device 2 and over the first, rear outer part 13, until the second, front outer part 14 completely encloses the first, rear outer part 13 along the horizontal longitudinal axis X from all sides, ie up to its edges, cf. Figure 10. In this case, the upper part 12, which also has a certain excess along the horizontal transverse axis Y compared to the second, front outer part 14, is in turn connected to the second, front outer part 14 with a sufficient frictional connection, ie the upper part 12 is clamped in the second, front outer part 14, cf. Figures 13-15 .

[0059] The base part 10 and the second, front outer part 14 are sufficiently spaced apart along the horizontal transverse axis Y so as not to touch each other and thus not to hinder movement along the horizontal longitudinal axis X between the base part 10 and the second, front outer part 14.

[0060] In order to connect the two outer parts 13, 14 to one another in a non-destructive manner, the first, rear outer part 13 has a tab receptacle 13b on each of its two lateral edges and on the upper edge, cf. Figure 5. The second, front outer part 14 has a correspondingly arranged and formed tab 14b on each of its two lateral edges and on the upper edge, cf. Figure 6 . The tabs 14b of the second, front outer part 14 are bent outwards when the two outer parts 13, 14 are not connected, cf. Figure 11 , and engage in the connected state of the two outer parts 13, 14 vertically into the tab receptacles 13b of the first, rear outer part 13, cf. Figure 12 .

[0061] The first, rear outer part 13 has a carrying handle 13a in the form of a carrying handle recess 13a, cf. Figure 11 . Likewise, the second, front outer part 14 has a carrying handle 14a in the form of a carrying handle recess 14, cf. Figure 10, which is arranged directly or diametrically opposite the carrying handle recess 13 of the first, rear outer part 13 along the horizontal longitudinal axis X. These two carrying handles 13a, 14a allow the person to carry the packaging unit 1 together with the packaged device 2 more easily.

[0062] To open or unpack the coffee machine 2 as an example device 2, the person as buyer or user can now bend the three tabs 14b of the second, front outer part 14 outwards again, cf. Figure 11 , and then pull the two outer parts 13, 14 apart along the horizontal longitudinal axis X. For this purpose, the person can pull the carrying handle 13a, 14a for each outer part 13, 14 in the form of the carrying handle recess 13a, 14a, see also Figure 11 , use.

[0063] When the two outer parts 13, 14 are pulled apart, the first, rear outer part 13 and the base part 10 are held together by the excess thereof, so that only the second, front outer part 14 moves relative to the first, rear outer part 13 including the base part 10. Accordingly, the front area of the coffee machine 2 is released directly and almost instantly by the first, front outer part 14, while the coffee machine 2 remains positioned on the base part 10. The rear area of the coffee machine 2 remains covered by the first, rear outer part 13, cf. Figure 10 .

[0064] To ensure that the upper part 12 can be removed from the coffee machine 2 without requiring additional steps, especially when the machine 2 is already visible, the upper part 12 is also clamped into the second, front outer part 14, as previously described. This can also prevent the upper part 12 from falling off the coffee machine 2. Both of these factors could impair the impression or experience of unpacking the coffee machine 2 for the person.

[0065] This type of unpacking of the coffee machine 2 can improve the unpacking experience for the person, as the packaged machine 2 can be presented directly, cf. Figure 10Unpacking can also be performed horizontally (X, Y), which can save the person from having to remove the device 2 from a carton. This can be simpler, faster, and safer. Further unpacking can be performed in the reverse order of the previously described packaging steps, see Figures 7 to 9 .

[0066] Even before the two outer parts 13, 14 are separated, the person can access the interior of the packaging unit 1 through an openable flap 13c as a section of the outer side of the first, rear outer part 13, in order to be able to grasp and remove, for example, an operating manual arranged within the side part 11 or the rear part 11 as an additional element of the device 2.
