Abstract

Pharmaceutical composition comprising a bilayer mucoadhesive film comprising at least two consecutive interconnected layers and incorporating at least one active agent selected from proteins, nucleic acids and combinations thereof, adapted for buccal administration. Said films for use as a medication, in particular for use in treating viral diseases. A method for preparing said film, comprising the steps: a) preparing a backing layer by spreading a liquid composition comprising a water-insoluble polymer, and allowing to dry at ambient conditions to obtain a dried layer; b) preparing a liquid mucoadhesive mixture containing at least one active agent selected from proteins, nucleic acids, and combinations thereof, pouring the mucoadhesive mixture onto the dried layer from step (a), and allowing to dry at ambient conditions to obtain a dried bilayer film; and c) cutting the dried bilayer film into the desired shape and size.
