AI Technical Summary
Existing ergonomic pillows made of memory foam fail to provide an optimal balance between head support and adaptation to the user's weight, leading to inadequate maintenance of the cervical and facial zones.
A pillow designed with a central axis of symmetry and symmetrical grooves that converge towards a central axis, featuring a surface coverage of grooves between 20% and 70% of the pillow's surface with a maximum depth of 3.5 cm, providing a comfortable and supportive surface for the head.
The pillow offers enhanced support for the cervical and facial areas by maintaining a comfortable, non-sinking surface that adapts to the user's head shape, ensuring optimal ergonomic alignment.

Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Improved pillow
[0001] Field of application of the invention
[0002] The present invention relates to a pillow of suitable shape and made of a memory foam material.
[0003] State of the art
[0004] Ergonomically shaped pillows made of memory foam are known.
[0005] The aim of the present invention is to produce a pillow with an optimized shape to offer a good compromise between support for the head and adaptation to the weight of the latter in order to ensure good support for the cervical and facial areas. Summary of the invention
[0006] The object of the present invention is achieved by a rectangular or trapezoidal pillow, i.e., with two 'long sides' and two 'short sides' made by molding a memory foam material having a central axis of symmetry identifying a right portion and a left portion, a support body defining said portions, a plurality of recesses symmetrical with respect to the axis of symmetry, some of these recesses being elongated and converging towards the axis identifying triangular figures having respective bases arranged on the same long edge of the pillow, in which a sum of surfaces of the grooves open in use towards a head of a user is between 20% and 70%, preferably between 20% and 40% of the surface of the rectangle or trapezoid and the total volume of the voids of the grooves is referable to a maximum depth of the grooves less than or equal to 3.5 cm.
[0007] In this way, a pillow is obtained which, initially thanks to the memory foam interposed between the grooves, gives a feeling of softness when the head is placed and, when the head itself reaches the bottom of the grooves, receives adequate support without sinking excessively. This effect is considered beneficial for the support of the cervical and facial area. Other relevant features of the invention are presented in the dependent claims and in the detailed description below. Brief description of the figures
[0008] Other objects and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the following detailed description of an example of its embodiment (and its variants) and from the appended drawings given for purely explanatory and non-limiting purposes, in which:
[0009] [Fig.l] shows a pillow having a double wave shape;
[0010] [Fig.2] shows a pillow having a "bar of soap" shape.
[0011] Detailed description of examples of embodiment
[0012] In [Fig.l], 1 indicates, as a whole, a pillow comprising a support body 2 with a central axis of symmetry AA, shown in dotted lines, defining respectively a right part 3 and a left part 4 and a plurality of recesses 5 symmetrical with respect to the central axis of symmetry AA and converging towards a center of the pillow. The pillow according to the present invention preferably has a double wave shape which can be both symmetrical and asymmetrical or according to an alternative embodiment it can have the shape of a "bar of soap".
[0013] The pillow has recesses 5 on its support surface for the user, having a rectangular flat section, meaning by the term recess a cavity with a blind bottom. Some recesses are circular in shape and serve for perspiration, circulation and ventilation of air, while others are elongated and converge towards the central axis of symmetry of the pillow. The cross-section of the elongated recesses can have a rectangular, square, semi-circular, trapezoidal or even triangular shape or any other shape without departing from the scope of protection of the present invention. The recesses 5 in fact define a calibrated surface weakening of the pillow and, to obtain this effect, it is important to provide a quantity of empty space alternating with surface portions of memory foam. This is achieved by means of recesses having a maximum depth, preferably uniform along the length of the recesses, which is less than or equal to 3.5 centimeters. The cross-sectional area of the recess multiplied by the length of the recess itself constitutes the volume of the recess and the volume of the recess corresponds to the volume of the void. In the present pillow, the sum of the open areas of the grooves 5 seen in plan is between 20% and 70% of the plan area of the pillow, preferably between 20% and 40%.
[0014] The maximum depth of the recesses is preferably between 2 and 3.5 cm relative to the total height of the pillow which is normally around 9-11 cm.
[0015] The depth of the recesses is also such that once the user has placed his head on the pillow, the recess flattens out, giving the user the perception of a flat surface without cavities and therefore completely comfortable.
[0016] [Fig.l] shows a pillow according to the invention with a double wave shape. Said pillow 1 can be made with a double wave with symmetrical or asymmetrical curvature with the advantage for the user who, in the case of an asymmetrical double wave, can decide at will which of the two sides of the pillow is best suited to the shape of his neck.
[0017] The recesses 5 of [Fig.l] preferably have a rectangular cross-section, i.e. comprising walls 5a inclined to each other by 90° respectively. If, for example, the section were triangular with internal angles less than 90° or trapezoidal with internal angles greater than 90°, the The comfort level of the pillow would be the same because the objective of creating a channel, designed as a vacuum, would in any case be realized as a vacuum, capable of creating depressions on specific points capable of ergonomically adapting to the shape of the user's neck.
[0018] The elongated recesses 5 in the central part of the pillow 1 are parallel. Other elongated recesses 5 are placed side by side with the central recesses, i.e. arranged in the right part 3 and in the left part 4 in a radial pattern converging towards the axis of symmetry and, preferably, towards the center of the pillow itself. The radial arrangement of the recesses means that between one central recess and the next a rectangular area 6 is delimited. The converging recesses 5 are instead applied in corresponding substantially triangular areas in the right 3 and left 4 portions. Outside of these triangular portions, the pillow has a surface substantially without recesses and therefore "full".
[0019] The recesses preferably have a width of 1 to 2 cm and are spaced approximately 1 to 1.5 to 2 to 5 cm apart. As can be seen in [Fig.l], the density of the recesses 5 on the long edge of the pillow and converging towards the center of the pillow itself is greater than the density of these along the short edge. Preferably, the short edges do not have recesses. Indeed, it is intended to create greater softness at the central support point of the head but at the same time providing support in the respective right 3 and left 4 parts. According to the illustrated embodiment, the short edges of the pillow therefore delimit the bases of two trapezoidal zones 8 without elongated recesses.
[0020] In a similar manner to what has been described with reference to [Fig.l], according to an alternative embodiment of [Fig.2] the pillow may have the shape of a “bar of soap” with the same characteristics as those of the pillow of [Fig.l].
[0021] From the above description, a person skilled in the art is able to achieve the object of the present invention without introducing further construction details.
