Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Device for measuring the pressure of a fluid distribution outlet in a hospital setting
[0001] The invention relates to a pressure measuring device for quickly measuring a fluid pressure, positive or negative (i.e. pressure or a vacuum), supplied by a fluid distribution outlet, i.e. medical gas or vacuum, arranged in a hospital establishment, during a maintenance operation aimed at ensuring the proper functioning of this fluid distribution outlet.
[0002] Hospital fluid distribution outlets, also called wall outlets, wall fittings or similar, are commonly used in hospital buildings to supply medical fluids, i.e. medical gas or vacuum, necessary for the treatment of patients, whether in rooms, emergency rooms, treatment rooms, recovery rooms or elsewhere.
[0003] They are fluidly connected to the gas or vacuum piping networks arranged in hospital buildings, i.e. hospitals, clinics or other similar structures, and usually fixed directly to a wall or indirectly, by being integrated into a box itself fixed to a wall, i.e. a partition.
[0004] Their architecture allows for quick connections of various devices or equipment using fluids, including a biological fluid suction device, a flexible gas line supplying a breathing mask, an assisted ventilation device, a flowmeter... or other.
[0005] Examples of wall sockets used in hospital settings are given by: EP-A-3932468, EP-A-3922894, EP-A-3922895, EP-A-3922339, EP-A-3892906, EP-A-3719377, FR-A-2628820 and FR-A-2995654.
[0006] Four types of wall-mounted fluid distribution outlets are used in hospitals, depending on the fluid they distribute: oxygen distribution outlets, also called "O2 outlets," supplying medical oxygen; vacuum distribution outlets, also called "vacuum outlets," supplying vacuum or suction (pressure drop < 1 atm); nitrous oxide distribution outlets, also called "N2O outlets," supplying medical nitrous oxide; and air distribution outlets, also called "air outlets," supplying medical air. A gas is considered "medical" or "medicinal" when it meets the requirements of the pharmacopoeia, for example, the French or European pharmacopoeia. Some gases have the status of a medicinal product, such as oxygen and nitrous oxide.
[0007] In order to prevent a user from mistakenly connecting a device or conduit to the "wrong" socket, for example to an N2O socket instead of an O2 socket, Each of these different sockets has a specific connection structure, that is to say different from each other and dedicated to a given fluid, called the "notching" of the socket.
[0008] To ensure the efficient operation of each wall-mounted fluid distribution outlet, maintenance must be performed regularly, for example, annually. Maintenance typically includes checking the pressure or vacuum (i.e., the "vacuum" level) at the outlet using a pressure gauge specific to each type of outlet and, if necessary, replacing the central part of the outlet or nozzle guide, which includes a movable valve and filter, for example, every 1 to 2 years depending on the outlet and its usage. The nozzle guide allows, in particular, control of the fluid flow when connecting a device or other component. This component of the outlet is subjected to greater stress when connections to devices, fluid lines, or other components are frequent.
[0009] Rigorous maintenance of all outlets in a hospital establishment is essential to maintain the fluid distribution network, i.e. gas and vacuum, in good working order.
[0010] However, within a hospital setting, there are typically several hundred, or even several thousand, doses. For example, a University Hospital Center or CHU in a medium-sized city in France often has more than 5,000 to 6,000 doses that must be monitored each year.
[0011] The number of sockets, their dispersion within the building, and the varying frequencies of tip guide replacement complicate the monitoring and traceability of maintenance operations at the hospital level. In other words, these maintenance operations are currently tedious and time-consuming.
[0012] A problem is therefore to be able to ensure efficient (i.e. exhaustive, up-to-date, reliable...) and less time-consuming maintenance of wall outlets for fluid distribution connected to a fluid network within a hospital establishment.
[0013] A solution according to the invention is based on a pressure measuring device for measuring fluid pressure (i.e., positive or negative pressure or vacuum) in (at least) one fluid distribution outlet, i.e., gas or vacuum (vacuum), within a hospital building, comprising: - several connecting fittings, each comprising an internal housing with a fluid inlet, - actuation means, arranged in the internal housing of each connection fitting, configured to cooperate with fluid control means of the fluid distribution outlet to release the fluid and allow its passage into the internal housing of the connection fitting in question, - pressure measurement devices configured to measure the pressure within the internal housing of each of said connection fittings, - microprocessor-based control systems cooperating with pressure measurement systems and - a source of electrical current supplying at least the control means and / or the pressure measurement means.

Indeed, certain measurement uncertainties can be taken into account, and therefore a tolerance or error of, for example, 5 to 10% around the given setpoint pressure value can be allowed to determine whether the measurement conforms to or does not conform to. - the given setpoint pressure value is prefixed, for example stored within the storage means, such as a computer memory for example included in the control means, or directly integrated into the calculation algorithm used to perform the conformity calculations. - the given setpoint pressure value is positive or negative (i.e. depression). - the given setpoint pressure value is for example equal to approximately 4.2 bar abs for gases (i.e. O2, N2O, air). - the given setpoint pressure value is for example equal to approximately -800 mbar abs for vacuum (i.e. depression). - the given setpoint pressure value is a given value that can be considered with a tolerance, for example of + / - 10%. - it includes audible warning means controlled by the control means to emit an audible signal in response to a pressure measurement. - it includes audible warning means, controlled by the piloting means, configured to emit an audible signal in response to a compliant or non-compliant pressure measurement. - the audible warning means include a loudspeaker. - the control systems are configured to control the systems audible warning signal to emit:

[0017] The invention also relates to a method for measuring pressure in a fluid distribution outlet arranged within a hospital, in which: a. a pressure measuring device according to the invention is fluidly connected to a given fluid distribution outlet arranged within a hospital, and b. The pressure supplied by the fluid distribution outlet is determined.
[0018] Depending on the embodiment considered, the invention may include one or more of the following features: - the fluid distribution outlet is fixed to a wall of the hospital establishment, i.e. a partition or similar. - the fluid distribution outlet is integrated into a fluid distribution box which is itself fixed to a wall of the hospital building. - the fluid distribution outlet is chosen from an O2 outlet, an N2O outlet, a vacuum outlet and an air outlet. - the fluid distribution outlet is fluidly connected to the hospital's gas pipeline network. - the hospital establishment is a hospital, a clinic or similar.
[0019] The invention will now be better understood with reference to the following detailed description, given by way of illustration but not limitation, with reference to the accompanying figures, among which:
[0020] [Fig. 1] represents a conventional fluid distribution outlet,
[0021] [Fig.2] schematically illustrates the method of measuring the pressure of a fluid distribution outlet according to [Fig.1] according to the prior art and according to the invention,
[0022] [Fig.3] to [Fig.6] schematically illustrate the use of a pressure measuring device according to the invention, during a control operation of a wall socket, and
[0023] [Fig.7] is a schematic diagram of the architecture of a pressure measuring device according to the invention.
[0024] [Fig.1] represents a conventional fluid distribution outlet 100 widely used in hospital establishments or buildings, i.e. hospitals, clinics or the like, to supply fluids, i.e. medical gas or vacuum, used for patient treatment, whether in rooms, emergency rooms, treatment rooms, recovery rooms or others.
[0025] This socket 100 includes a socket body 101 comprising a removable tip guide 104 axially traversed by a fluid passage 103 opening externally at the level of a socket orifice 103a through which the fluid passes.
[0026] The nozzle guide 104 includes a movable internal valve cooperating with a valve seat to control the flow of fluid within the socket body 101. An internal spring normally pushes the movable valve against the valve seat to ensure a fluid seal when the socket 100 is not in use. The movable valve of the nozzle guide 104 also includes one or more filters.
[0027] The movable flap of the nozzle guide 104 is pushed back so as to detach it from the flap seat when an appliance, a fluid conduit or other device is connected to the socket 100, which allows the passage of fluid to be freed.
[0028] In order to protect the socket 100, it is generally integrated into an individual protective box 105, preferably with a hinged cover, as illustrated in [Fig.1] or into a fluid distribution box, which boxes are fixed to the walls, partitions or other parts of hospital establishments.
[0029] There are 4 types of outlets currently used in hospital settings, namely O2, N2O, vacuum, and air outlets, distributing these different medical fluids or vacuum (i.e., suction). In [Fig. 1], this is an oxygen (O2) outlet, for example.
[0030] To prevent incorrect connections and potentially serious consequences for patients, each type of outlet 100 is equipped with a connection structure 102 specific to that outlet; that is, connection structures 102 that are different from one another and dedicated to a given fluid. These specific connection structures 102 serve as keying devices; they are called outlet "notches".
[0031] Thus, a connection structure 102 specific to a nitrous oxide (N2O) outlet makes it impossible to connect a device or gas conduit connector designed to be supplied by oxygen.
[0032] This architecture and operation are classic and detailed in particular in the previous documents cited above.
[0033] However, equipping the sockets 100 with these specific connection structures 102 creates a problem during maintenance operations, since it requires checking each socket 100 with a pressure gauge 200a-200d type device different and specific to each type of socket 100, for example here O2 sockets 100a, N2O 100b, vacuum 100c and air lOOd, as illustrated in [Fig.2].
[0034] To remedy this problem and facilitate maintenance operations, according to the invention, a unique pressure measuring device 1 is used to measure the positive or negative fluid pressure (i.e. depression), i.e. gas or vacuum, of each of the fluid distribution outlets, i.e. regardless of the type of outlet 100a-100c considered.
[0035] As illustrated in [Fig.2], this unique pressure measuring device 1 makes it possible to replace the 4 different manometer type devices 200a-200d used according to the prior art.
[0036] More specifically, the pressure measuring device 1 of the invention comprises a housing 10 carrying several connection tips 2, namely here 4 specific tips 2.
[0037] As schematically shown in [Fig.2] and [Fig.7], each connection fitting 2 has a generally tubular shape. It comprises an internal housing 3 and an externally open fluid inlet 4, which are sized to receive, in the manner of a sleeve, at least a portion of the socket body 101 of a fluid distribution socket 100, so that the fluid passage 103 of the socket 100 is in fluidic communication with the internal housing 3 of the connection fitting 2 to which the socket 100 is connected. This allows the internal housing 3 of the connection fitting 2 to be subjected to the pressure or vacuum prevailing in the internal passage 103 of the socket body 101 of the fluid distribution socket 100 in question, and thus the desired pressure or vacuum measurement to be carried out.
[0038] Each connecting tip 2 of the pressure measuring device 1 of the invention is specific to a given fluid distribution socket 100, that is to say, it can only be connected to one and only one type of socket 100, namely an O2, N2O, vacuum or air socket.
[0039] In order to allow verification of sockets 100a-lOOd carrying these 4 different fluids, the pressure measuring device 1 of the invention comprises here 4 different connection tips 2 which are each specific to one of the fluids considered, namely a first connection tip 2a shaped to be connectable only to an O2 socket 100a, a second connection tip 2b shaped to be connectable only to an N2O socket 100b, a third connection tip 2c shaped to be connectable only to a vacuum socket 100c and a fourth connection tip 2d shaped to be connectable only to a medical air socket lOOd.
[0040] [Fig. 7] is an illustrative diagram (in cross-section) of the basic architecture of an embodiment of a pressure measuring device 1 according to the invention. To facilitate understanding, only one nozzle 2 has been schematically shown, but the measuring device 1 has 4 nozzles, as already mentioned, in the proposed embodiment.
[0041] As can be seen on [Fig.7], in order to allow the pressure measuring device 1 of the invention to be secured to a socket 100 to be controlled, as illustrated in [Fig.3], and thus ensure a fluid connection between them, connection means 6 are also provided at the level of each connection tip 2 which are specific to each type of socket 100, namely O2, N2O, vacuum and air sockets.
[0042] These connection means 6 of the pressure measuring device 1 of the invention cooperate with the specific connection structure 102 which acts as a keying device, i.e., the "notching" of the socket 100, in order to ensure the desired connection. In other words, the connection means 6 can be, for example, wall elements cooperating with complementary connection means of the socket to be checked, typically the notching of the socket which is specific to each type of fluid in order to prevent connection errors.
[0043] In addition, actuation means 5 are also provided arranged in internal housing 3 of each connection tip 2 which are configured to cooperate with fluid control means, in particular the internal valve, arranged in the fluid distribution socket 100 to be controlled in order to release the fluid and thus be able to operate a pressure measurement.
[0044] These actuation means 5 are for example an elongated rod 5a, arranged axially (AA) in the center of the internal housing 3 of each nozzle 2, which pushes back the valve of the socket 100 to be checked to detach it from its seat and thus allow the passage of fluid, i.e. gas or vacuum, towards the internal housing 3 of the nozzle 2 considered, i.e. the nozzle 2 connected to the fluid distribution socket 100 whose positive or negative pressure is to be checked.
[0045] Furthermore, the housing 10 also includes pressure measurement means 8, such as a pressure sensor, configured to measure the pressure or vacuum within the internal housing 103 of each connection end 2, for example via a pressure tap line 9 opening (at 9a) into the internal housing 103.
[0046] The pressure measurement means 8 are configured to transmit, via for example an electrical link 15, such as a cable or an electronic circuit, the pressure measurement(s), whether a value or a signal, to microprocessor control means 11 12, for example an electronic card 14 arranged in the housing 10, which process this measurement.
[0047] In particular, the pressure measurement(s) performed by the measuring device 1 can be compared to a stored reference value, for example within the microprocessor 12, or other means of storage 19 arranged for example on the electronic board 14. The pressure value stored for the gases, i.e. O2, N2 O and air, can be the same for all these gases, for example 4.2 bar abs, or a different value depending on the gas.
[0048] When the control means 11 determine that the measured pressure (e.g. 4.2 bar) is compliant, i.e. equal to the expected value stored (e.g. approximately 4.2 bar), then the measuring device 1 can emit a first audible signal (“Beep Beep”) to inform the user, which allows him to know immediately that the pressure is compliant and that he can test another socket.
[0049] To do this, the control means 11 can control audible warning means 17 configured to emit the first audible signal, for example they may include a small loudspeaker or similar.
[0050] Conversely, if the measured pressure does not conform to the expected value (e.g., 4.2 bar), for example, lower (e.g., 2 bar abs) than the stored expected value, this may indicate that the nozzle guide valve is not functioning properly or is clogged, and therefore further maintenance, including removal of the nozzle guide, is necessary. In this case, the measuring device 1 can emit a second audible signal (e.g., a different sound from the first signal or the same sound but at a faster frequency) to inform the user via, again, a control of the audible warning means 17, e.g., a loudspeaker.
[0051] Of course, this operation also applies to vacuuming, but in this case, it is a vacuum level, i.e. a negative pressure value, that is stored and serves as a reference value.
[0052] A source of electric current 13, such as a rechargeable battery, arranged in the housing 10, is also provided, which supplies, via one or more electrical connections 16, the various components requiring electric current to operate, in particular the microprocessor-controlled means 11(s) 12 and / or the pressure measurement means 8.
[0053] [Fig.3] to [Fig.6] schematically illustrate the use of a pressure measuring device 1 according to the invention, during a control operation of a wall socket 100, carried out by an operator.
[0054] First, the user selects the connection fitting 2 of the measuring device 1 that corresponds to the type of outlet 100 to be checked, namely an O2 outlet, an N2O outlet, a vacuum outlet, or an air outlet, and then attaches the measuring device 1 to the standard connection structure or notch 102 of the outlet 100 to be checked, as illustrated in [Fig. 3], so as to check whether the pressure is correct, for example a pressure of around 4.2 bar absolute for an O2 intake supplied by a network of pipes arranged in a hospital.
[0055] Preferably, to signal a correct connection of the measuring device 1 to the fluid intake 100 to be checked, therefore the appearance of a pressure or depression (vacuum) within the internal housing 3 of the nozzle 2, and / or to indicate to the user a measured pressure having a value conforming to the desired or assumed value, or conversely, a non-conforming pressure, as explained above, the control means 11 of the measuring device 1 can control audible warning means 17, such as a loudspeaker, to trigger a dedicated audible signal (or signals) intended to provide information of conformity or non-conformity, audible to the user, as [Fig.7].
[0056] According to an embodiment illustrated in [Fig. 4] and [Fig. 7], the fluid port 100 can be equipped with an identification marker 106, such as an RFID chip, a barcode, or the like, which can be recognized and read by ID reading means 18 enabling the detection and reading of an electronic or other identification marker 106. It should be noted that another identification marking 107, such as a barcode, carried by the nozzle guide 104 of the port 100, as seen in [Fig. 6], can also be read and recognized by the chip detection and reading means 18, i.e., an identification marking 107 (ID) on the nozzle guide 104.
[0057] These then communicate the information read from the electronic marker(s) 106, 107, e.g. RFID chip, barcode, to the control means 11, which process it, notably within its microprocessor(s) 12. For example, the information may be a serial or identification number (ID) of the tip guide 104, an identification of the socket 100, the department and / or hospital where it is installed, or any other information, as illustrated in [Fig. 6]. This information is preferably associated with the measured pressure value.
[0058] Furthermore, the measuring device 1 of the invention may also include storage means 19, such as a flash memory, an EPROM, or other, for storing the pressure measurements taken and, preferably, the information read from the electronic marker 106, e.g., an RFID chip. The storage means 19 may be carried by the electronic board 14 and cooperate with the control means 11, in particular its microprocessor(s) 12.
[0059] Furthermore, the measuring device 1 of the invention may also include communication means 20 controlled by the control means 11, for transmitting (at 31) information or data, for example, measurements taken, information from the electronic marker 106 or other, to an external device, in particular a multifunction phone 30 (i.e., smartphone) as illustrated in [Fig. 5], a digital tablet or a modem-type device or other, which may transmit this data or other information to other systems, such as a remote server or computer where this data and other information may be processed, used, displayed or otherwise.
[0060] The communication means 20 may include a transmitting antenna, or other. They may transfer information via Bluetooth®, GSM, infrared or any other suitable communication method, including via an internet or aerial communication network.
[0061] The means of communication 20 are electrically powered, for example by the electric current source 13.
[0062] According to another embodiment (not shown), the measuring device 1 of the invention can also be equipped or connected to a display screen configured to display the measured pressure and possibly other information.
[0063] According to yet another embodiment (not shown), the measuring device 1 of the invention may also include a bore through the peripheral wall of the internal housing 3 of each nozzle 2. Such a bore allows the presence of fluid flow to be checked in addition to verifying pressure conformity. In this case, to check the pressure, the operator plugs the bore's outlet orifice, simply with their finger or by inserting a plug, for example, to ensure a fluid seal and allow the pressure measurement. Then, by unplugging the bore's outlet orifice, they can determine the presence of fluid flow if they hear the fluid escaping (or entering in the case of a vacuum test).
[0064] More specifically, during a control operation of a fluid inlet 100, an operator first couples the measuring device 1 of the invention to the fluid inlet 100 to be controlled until the pressure or vacuum existing in the inlet 100 spreads into the nozzle 2 of the device 1, as already explained, and the pressure measurement can be carried out using the pressure sensor 8 which is connected to the control means 11.
[0065] If the pressure value is correct, the control means 11 can trigger an audible sound signal to the operator to indicate that the fluid outlet 100 is functional and delivers the correct pressure, i.e. desired, for example 4.2 bar abs for oxygen.
[0066] The measuring device 1 of the invention also detects and reads the identification chip (ID) 106 of RFID or other type, which is previously fixed on the socket housing 105 for example.
[0067] This information, namely pressure measurement and ID number of socket 100 and / or guide nozzle 104, is communicated by the measuring device 1 of the invention to a remote terminal or server, preferably paired / associated beforehand, the identification code(s) (IDs), the measured pressure and preferably some information relating to the specific 2 nozzle used, namely the specific one for an O2, N2O, air or vacuum connection.
