Description

Title of the invention: Composite structure coffin

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a coffin comprising an assembly of panels fixed edge to edge, forming a box having a bottom, a belt, and an interior volume of the box configured to receive a deceased. The belt of the box delimits an upper opening closed by a cover.

[0002] The panels are, in whole or in part, composite panels, namely that the composite panel(s) comprises a core material distinct from the materials forming the inner and outer walls of the panel. Technical field

[0003] The present disclosure relates to the field of coffins, and in particular to coffins finding a particular application for cremation. Prior art

[0004] The state of the art knows coffins, made of wood, in particular solid wood. The manufacture requires an assembly of the different solid wood planks, to form the different faces of the box, namely the bottom and the side faces forming the surround. A lid also formed by a plank makes it possible to close the opening of the box. However, this is an expensive manufacturing process due to the raw material used. Alternatively, it is possible to replace the solid wood planks with a wood-based substitute, such as MDF or particle board, which is a little less expensive, but still a relatively heavy solution.

[0005] The state of the art still includes coffins whose body is made of cardboard. Such a state of the art is significantly lighter and potentially less expensive than the aforementioned wooden coffins. On the other hand, coffins made of cardboard, or essentially cardboard, generally generate a significant quantity of ashes and other unburned matter, which may make them unsuitable for use in cremation.

[0006] The state of the art also knows from document JP3192943U, or even from CN112137824 A, or even from US20130074298 Al hybrid wood / cardboard coffins comprising an assembly of cleats forming a wooden skeletal frame, delimiting the edges of the box, and typically corrugated or honeycomb cardboard, fixed to the cleats of the skeletal structure, forming the different faces of the box.

[0007] According to the inventor's findings, in such a state of the art the structural resistance of the coffin is essentially ensured by the skeletal frame, while the cardboards form the different faces, namely a wall function only, and without the cardboard contributing substantially to the structural resistance of the wooden frame. The wooden frame must therefore be sized accordingly and be sufficiently robust. Another disadvantage is that the corrugated or honeycomb structure of the cardboard can be directly visible and has a less noble appearance than wood. Summary

[0008] The present disclosure improves the situation.

[0009] A coffin is proposed comprising an assembly of panels assembled edge to edge forming a box comprising a bottom, a belt of the box, the interior volume of the box configured to receive a deceased, the belt delimiting an upper opening closed by a cover.

[0028] [Fig. 10] is a view of a temporary, rectangular handling frame comprising an assembly of external cleats, on the periphery, and internal cleats forming with the external cleats, four frames, for obtaining the four composite panels forming two first panels (head) and two panels (foot) for the manufacture of two coffins. Description of the embodiments

[0029] The drawings and the description below contain, for the most part, elements of a certain character. They may therefore not only serve to better understand the present disclosure, but also contribute to its definition, where appropriate.

[0030] Also, the present disclosure relates to a coffin 1 comprising an assembly of panels assembled edge to edge forming a box 10 comprising a bottom 11, and a belt 12 of the box.

[0031] The interior volume of the box is configured to receive a deceased, the belt delimiting an upper opening O. The upper opening O is closed by a cover 13, which can be formed by an upper panel.

[0032] The coffin may be a polyhedron. The embodiment illustrated in the figures is a coffin known to those skilled in the art as a Parisian coffin comprising eight faces, namely that the bottom panel is hexagonal, the body belt comprising an assembly of six panels, with two panels, respectively head and foot, at the longitudinal ends of the body, and two pairs of panels (long and short) forming the two sides of the belt. The six panels forming the belt are fixed along the six sides of the hexagonal bottom panel, so that the volume delimited by the body is hexagonal. The lid is a hexagonal panel configured so as to close the upper, hexagonal opening of the body.

[0033] The present disclosure is however not limited to a Parisian coffin. The box may, for example, be of parallelepiped shape, namely that the bottom panel may be rectangular, and the belt formed of four panels secured along the four sides of the bottom panel.

[0034] The coffin may also be trapezoidal in shape, for example the Lyon type, namely that the panel forming the bottom (and the panel forming the lid) may be an isosceles trapezoid, with notably a belt comprising a head panel and a foot panel, parallel between the two, while the two panels forming the sides are convergent, from the head panel to the foot panel.

[0035] The cover panel may also include a window, typically closable by an external shutter, which allows the face of the deceased housed in the coffin to be viewed.

[0036] Notably, according to the present disclosure, all or part of the panels forming the body and / or the cover are PC composite panels.

[0037] The or each composite PV panel comprises: - a frame Ca extending along the periphery of the composite panel, comprising an inner face and an outer face, - an interior Pint wall, preferably the same size as the frame, secured to the interior face of the peripheral frame, - an external wall Pext, preferably the same size as the frame, secured to the external face of the peripheral frame.

[0038] The interior volume is delimited between, on the one hand, an interior perimeter of the frame CA, and, on the other hand, the interior wall and the exterior wall, receives a core material MA.

[0039] In the sectional view of [Fig.6], it can be seen that on a section perpendicular to the plane of the panel, the panel has a sandwich structure comprising, depending on the thickness of the panel, the inner wall Pint, the core comprising the core material MA, and the outer panel Pext.

[0040] According to one embodiment, the core material MA preferably has a density lower than the densities of the materials forming the frame Ca and the inner walls Pint and outer walls Pext.

[0041] The composite panel or panels of the coffin according to the present disclosure are advantageously more economical and lighter alternatives than coffins formed from solid wood panels (solid wood or wood-based substitutes).

[0042] Depending on the combinations between the core material, the materials forming the inner and outer walls and the frame, it becomes possible to obtain a coffin generating little ash compared to a cardboard coffin. The coffin according to the present disclosure can thus find application particularly for cremation. The coffin may also be suitable for burial.

[0043] The frame Ca may comprise an assembly of wooden or wood-based (e.g. plywood) cleats joined together by their longitudinal ends. The frame preferably follows the contour of the edges of the panels.

[0044] For example, for a Parisian coffin as illustrated in the figures, the frame of the bottom (or cover) panel, hexagonal, is also hexagonal, formed of six cleats, and as illustrated in figures 3 and 4. For rectangular panels, such as for example those forming the belt, as illustrated in [Fig.5], the frame is rectangular in shape, and extends along the contour of the interior and exterior walls.

[0045] The cleats are preferably of rectangular section, so that two of the opposite and parallel faces are coplanar, respectively with the inner face and the outer face of the frame, and while the other two opposite and parallel faces form respectively the inner face and the outer face of the frame, respectively on the inner periphery and the outer periphery of the frame Ca.

[0046] When the outer and inner walls are the dimensions of the frame, the outer faces of the frame Ca are flush with the edges of the inner panel Pint and the edges of the outer panel Pext, and as illustrated in [Fig.6]. The inner wall Pint and / or the outer wall Pext is a wood wall, solid or a wood-based wall, in particular plywood, chipboard, laminate, or MDF.

[0047] Again, the inner wall Pint may be a sheet of cardboard such as corrugated cardboard and the outer wall Pext is a wood wall, solid or a wood-based wall, in particular plywood, chipboard, laminate, or MDF.

[0048] The corrugated cardboard forming the outer wall Pext is of low thickness, typically less than 5mm, or even less than 4mm, such as 3mm.

[0049] According to one embodiment, the core material MA may be a cardboard such as in particular a honeycomb cardboard. The ALV cells of the cardboard may be ALV cells, for example hexagonal, in the shape of a honeycomb, as illustrated in [Fig.7].

[0050] According to one embodiment, the cells of the honeycomb cardboard extend, in directions perpendicular to a plane of the composite panel, each cell extending from a first peripheral edge Chl at one of the open ends of the cell, bearing internally directly against the inner wall Pint and to a second peripheral edge Ch2, at the other of the open ends of the cell ALV, bearing internally directly against the outer wall Pext.

[0051] According to another embodiment not illustrated, the honeycomb cardboard forming the core material may comprise, in addition to the ALV cells, a first sheet, extending opposite the inner wall Pint and a second sheet extending opposite the outer wall Pext. Such an embodiment makes it possible to preferably implement gluing of the core material with the inner surfaces of the outer and inner walls of the composite panel, by a first gluing of the first sheet on the inner surface of the inner wall Pint and by a second gluing of the second sheet on the outer surface of the outer wall Pext. The first sheet and the second sheet of the cardboard are integral with the cells on both sides of the latter.

[0052] According to one embodiment, the core material is an agro-sourced material such as, for example, potato peel-based or popcorn-based.

[0053] Preferably, said core may have a void rate greater than 50%, preferably greater than 80%. This void rate is for example obtained by the cells when the material is a honeycomb cardboard, and may be increased by increasing the size of the cells. The size of the cells may be greater than 1cm, or even greater than 2cm, or even greater than 3cm. For hexagonal cells, the size is determined by measuring the space between two opposite sides of the typically regular hexagon.

[0054] Generally, the coffin may have eight faces comprising: - the bottom 11 formed by a hexagonal bottom panel PO, with six sides - the belt 12 comprising an assembly of six panels, assembled edge to edge, comprising a first end panel PI, a second end panel P2, parallel to each other, third P3 and fourth P4 panels forming a first side of the box, and fifth P5 and sixth P6 panels forming a second side of the box, the six composite panels PI to P6 being secured by lower edges of the panel respectively to the six sides of the hexagonal bottom panel PO, - a cover 13 preferably formed by a hexagonal bottom panel P7, with six sides.

[0055] The bottom panel PO and the six panels PI, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6 forming the belt of the box are said PC composite panels, and preferably the cover panel P7) is also a PC composite panel.

[0056] Generally speaking, the composite panels can be assembled edge to edge, at the frame Ca of the panels. The assembly can be an assembly by an adhesive. It can also be an assembly using fixing members, such as screws, nails or staples, preferably passing through the frames of the composite panels to be assembled.

[0057] Alternatively, the third P3 and fourth P4 panels (and respectively the fifth P5 and sixth P6 panels) forming the first sidewall (respectively forming the second sidewall) comprising two faces inclined relative to each other can be replaced by a single composite panel, which is curved at the junction zone between the two inclined faces. To do this, the frame can comprise notches, on the side members of the frame, at the junction zone between the two faces inclined relative to each other, oriented inwards, allowing the frame to be curved according to a determined radius of curvature.

[0058] Compared with the embodiment of figures 1 and 2 which includes an edge at the junction zone between the two inclined faces formed by the third and fourth panels P3, P4 (respectively fifth and sixth panels P5, P6), the junction zone obtained by bending has a curved profile, without a sharp edge.

[0059] Preferably, this curvature must be taken into account in the hexagonal-shaped bottom, and so that the shape of the bottom matches this radius of curvature. The bottom is preferably machined in order to break the sharp edge opposite the junction zone, so that the radius of curvature of the bottom matches that of the junction zone. Manufacturing process on an automated line

[0060] The different composite panels forming the body, or even the cover, can be manufactured manually, in the workshop, by assembling, one by one, and independently, the different composite panels.

[0061] However, and according to an advantageous embodiment, the manufacturing method can be implemented on an automated manufacturing line comprising a conveyor with a roller press. This may in particular be a manufacturing line conventionally used in the field of manufacturing isoplane doors.

[0062] Such automated manufacturing notably comprises the use of a temporary handling frame, configured to be handled by the conveyor of the automated line, and which partially forms (only) one or more of the frames of the composite panel(s) of the coffin according to the present disclosure.

[0063] [Fig.8] illustrates by way of example a temporary, rectangular handling frame allowing manufacturing on an automated line with conveyor, the handling frame comprising an assembly of external cleats, on the periphery, and internal cleats forming, with the external cleats, a frame hexagonal of the cover (or bottom) of the composite panels, after cutting the handling frame along the internal cleats, and along a cutting path passing through the internal cleats.

[0064] The handling frame comprises in particular two short cleats and two long external cleats, respectively forming crosspieces and side members of the frame. Two first internal cleats, short and long, respectively connect a first crosspiece and a first side member, on the one hand, and the first side member to a second crosspiece.

[0065] Two second internal cleats, short and long, respectively connect the first crosspiece and a second side member, on the one hand, and the second side member to the second crosspiece.

[0066] The frame forming the bottom panel (or cover panel) is obtained by a cut passing along the internal cleats, namely along the first two internal cleats, short and long and along the second two cleats, short and long, with generation of four offcuts at the corners of the rectangular handling frame Cm. After cutting, the frame of the hexagonal composite panel is thus the result of an assembly of the internal cleats (first and second), the remaining middle parts of the crosspieces formed by the external cleats, as well as the remaining intermediate parts of the external cleats forming the side members of the handling frame.

[0067] In such a case, the handling frame makes it possible to take advantage of the use of the automated line, even when the final frame of the composite panel to be obtained is not rectangular, and for example hexagonal for a Parisian coffin, in this embodiment.

[0068] Figures 9 and 10 illustrate another advantage of the handling frame, namely the manufacture of rectangular frame composite panels, but which are individually too small to be handled profitably by the automated line.

[0069] [Fig.9] is thus a view of a temporary, rectangular handling frame comprising an assembly of external cleats, on the periphery, and internal cleats forming with the external cleats, two long frames and two short frames, for obtaining the four composite panels intended to form the two sides of the coffin, after cutting the internal cleats, according to cutting trajectories.

[0070] [Fig. 10] is a view of a temporary, rectangular handling frame comprising an assembly of external cleats, on the periphery, and internal cleats forming with the external cleats, four frames, for obtaining the four composite panels forming two first panels (head) and two panels (foot) for the manufacture of two coffins, after cutting the internal cleats.

[0071] In [Fig.10] or [Fig.9], the internal cleats extend perpendicular to each other and subdivide the handling frame into four frames intended for the manufacture of four separate composite panels.

[0072] Also, and in general, the present disclosure also relates to a method of manufacturing a coffin 1 comprising the steps: / A / assembly of a temporary, rectangular handling frame Cm comprising external cleats Te, forming the periphery of the handling frame, and internal cleats Ti, joining the external cleats Te together, subdividing the internal space of the manufacturing frame into several sub-spaces, / B / assembly of a first wall on a first side of the handling frame, intended to form the interior wall(s) Pint or the exterior wall(s) Pext, / C / filling the manufacturing frame with a core material MA, with insertion of a core material into one or more of said sub-spaces, / D / assembly of a second wall on a second side of the frame intended to form the exterior wall(s) Pext or the interior wall(s) Pint), obtaining an intermediate composite panel. / E / cutting the intermediate composite panel along one or more cutting paths Tj along the internal cleats, so as to obtain a composite panel for example forming the lid or the bottom of the coffin according to one possibility, or in order to obtain several composite panels intended to form the belt of the coffin according to a second possibility.

[0073] The assembly in step / B / or in step / D / may be an assembly by gluing during which the wall (inner or outer) is glued to the frame by applying pressure from the frame to the wall during assembly.

[0074] Such a method is preferably implemented on an automated manufacturing line comprising a conveyor configured for the advancement of the rectangular handling frame, and in which at least step / B / or / D / is implemented on the automated line during which the first wall in step / B / or the second wall in step / D / is applied under pressure to the handling frame by a roller press of the automated line.

[0075] Steps / A / to / D / are preferably repeated on several separate handling frames to obtain all of the composite panels intended to form the bottom 10 and the belt of the box 12, or even the lid 13 of the coffin. The different composite panels PO to P7 are assembled edge to edge to form the box of the coffin, for example using an adhesive or even fixing members. Industrial application

[0076] The coffin according to the present disclosure finds a particular application for cremation. Preferably, the total value of the ashes does not exceed 0.6 liters. If the total value exceeds 0.6 liters, the total mass of the ashes and any unburned material from the materials of the bare coffin intended for cremation is less than or equal to 2% of the mass of the bare coffin. Such performances in terms of quantity of unburned material can be obtained in particular when the frame and the inner and outer walls are made of wood (or wood-based), and when the core is cardboard, in particular honeycomb cardboard.

[0077] Generally, the thickness of the inner wall Pint and the outer wall Pext may be less than 1cm, or even less than 5mm, while the thickness of the core may be greater than 1cm, or even greater than 2cm, or even greater than 3cm. List of reference signs
