Description

Title of the invention: Compact high-speed sorter with loading on two parallel lanes Technical field

[0001] The invention is placed in the field of logistics and more particularly in the field of automated parcel sorting at high throughput. Prior art

[0002] Most parcel sorting installations today use loop sorting conveyors equipped with sorting outlets to sort parcels.

[0003] This type of sorting conveyor generally comprises parcel receptacles capable not only of conveying the parcels in a certain conveying direction but also of sorting them in the sorting outlets according to a certain predetermined sorting plan.

[0004] Certain sorting installations, such as that described in document EP2921431, use sorting conveyors with guide rails which extend in the conveying direction and on which move trolleys capable of moving the parcel receptacles in the conveying direction.

[0005] The use of two tubular guide rails makes it possible in particular to reduce the radius of curvature of the sorting conveyor in bends, compared to sorting conveyors with multiple flat rails, which makes it possible to reduce the footprint of the sorting conveyor.

[0006] Furthermore, the use of this type of sorting conveyor whose receptacles are connected to each other in a continuous chain imposes a constant conveying speed for all the receptacles moving in the conveying direction. This speed must therefore be adapted both to allow the evacuation of the parcels from the receptacles into the sorting outlets and to allow the insertion of the parcels onto the receptacles.

[0007] The conveying speed is therefore limited to the conveying speed applicable at the level of the parcel insertion devices which cannot withstand conveying speeds as high as at the level of the parcel evacuation zones.

[0008] This limited conveyor speed directly impacts the parcel sorting efficiency.

[0009] Thus, to maintain sufficient sorting efficiency, one solution is to double or even triple the insertion zones by distributing them downstream of the sorting exit zones. But this solution is expensive, increases the footprint and is restrictive for the customer in terms of flow management and installation in the building. Statement of the invention

[0010] The objective of the invention is therefore to solve the aforementioned problems by proposing a sorting installation that is both compact and efficient in terms of sorting.

[0011] For this purpose, the invention relates to a parcel sorting installation comprising a loop sorting conveyor and sorting outlets distributed along the sorting conveyor, said sorting conveyor comprising parcel receptacles designed to convey parcels in a certain conveying direction and sort them in the sorting outlets according to a predetermined sorting plan, the sorting conveyor comprising two parallel rails which extend in the conveying direction and trolleys mounted on the rails designed to move the parcel receptacles in said certain conveying direction, characterized in that the sorting conveyor comprises a main conveyor which splits into two secondary conveyors over a certain conveying portion, said sorting conveyor comprising a switching system designed to switch the trolleys alternately towards one or the other of the secondary conveyors,and in that the sorting installation comprises a central unit configured to control the speed of movement of the trolleys so that each parcel receptacle moves at a speed V1 on the main conveyor and at a speed V2 on the secondary conveyors, the speed V2 being equal to half the speed VI.,

[0012] The idea behind the invention is to convey the parcels at reduced speed on the secondary conveyors in order to make the insertion of the parcels on the receptacles more reliable and to convey the parcels on the main conveyor at high speed to guarantee sufficient sorting efficiency.

[0013] The invention consists for this purpose in using a switching system making it possible to distribute the carriages on each of the two secondary conveyors in order to apply a speed half that of the main conveyor.

[0014] The receptacles being loaded in parallel on the two secondary conveyors, the overall flow rate is the sum of the flow rates of the two conveyors.

[0015] The sorting installation according to the invention can also have the following characteristics:

[0016] - the central unit is set to control the speed of movement of the trolleys so that each parcel receptacle accelerates from speed VI to a speed Vmax then slows down from speed Vmax to speed V2, so as to create sufficient space between two successive receptacles in the conveying direction fitted on different guide rails and to allow them to cross on the secondary conveyors;

[0017] - each carriage comprises a coupling element designed to be fitted onto a rail of the main conveyor which serves as a guide rail to guide the carriage in the conveying direction and a stabilizing element arranged to bear on the other rail of the main conveyor which serves as a follower rail to vertically support the carriage in its movement in the conveying direction, and in that the rail director for each of the secondary conveyors extends in line with the director rail of the main conveyor so that the movement of a trolley towards one or other of the secondary conveyors depends on the director rail of the main conveyor on which the trolley upright is fitted;

[0018] - the follower rails of the secondary conveyors cross to form a heart switching so as to allow the movement of the stabilizing element of a carriage on the follower rail of one or other of the secondary conveyors depending on the steering rail on which the carriage is fitted and in that the switching center is in the form of a substantially flat platform which is interposed at the intersection of the follower rails of the secondary conveyors, said follower rails of the secondary conveyors and the platform having a continuous support surface for the stabilizing element in the conveying direction;

[0019] - the sorting conveyor comprises two transition rails, arranged upstream and downstream secondary conveyors, each of which forms the junction between a rail of the main conveyor and a follower rail of one of the secondary conveyors, each transition rail being designed to support the stabilizing element of a carriage during the movement of said stabilizing element in the conveying direction from the moment the stabilizing element is no longer supported on the follower rail of the main conveyor and until the stabilizing element is again supported on the follower rail of the secondary conveyor;

[0020] - each stabilizing element comprises two contact elements spaced apart from each other the other in the conveying direction capable of coming to bear on at least one follower rail so that the stabilizing element of a carriage always comprises a contact element bearing on at least one follower rail of the main conveyor and / or one of the secondary conveyors during its movement from the main conveyor to a secondary conveyor;

[0021] - parcel insertion devices are provided for inserting the parcels onto the re receptacles for packages being conveyed on the two secondary conveyors;

[0022] - the coupling element and the stabilizing element comprise means of rolling friction designed to roll on rails;

[0023] - the rails of the sorting conveyor are tubular rails.

[0024] - several parcel receptacles are connected together by trolleys to form a parcel receptacle train, in that the sorting conveyor comprises a plurality of parcel receptacle trains which follow one another in the conveying direction, the trolleys of the same train being fitted onto the same rail. [0030] [Fig.5] - [Fig.5] is a schematic representation of a switching heart of the switching system according to the invention. Detailed description of the invention

[0031] The sorting installation 1 for parcels 2 according to the invention, also called sorter, shown in [Fig.l] is particularly well suited to sorting heterogeneous parcels, and in particular PPI (small import packages) type parcels typical of e-commerce, at high throughput while having a reduced footprint.

[0032] The sorting installation 1 for parcels 2 according to the invention comprises in particular a sorting conveyor 3 in a loop and sorting outlets 4 distributed along the sorting conveyor 3.

[0033] The sorting conveyor 3 is equipped here with receptacles 5 for parcels 2 mounted on trolleys 6 designed on the one hand to convey the parcels 2 in a certain conveying direction D1, but also to sort the parcels 2 according to a predetermined sorting plan in the sorting outlets 4.

[0034] The receptacles 5 for parcels 2 are for example in the form of buckets, visible in [Fig.4], equipped with an evacuation hatch allowing the parcels 2 to be evacuated under the sorting conveyor 3 by gravity into the sorting outlets 4.

[0035] The receptacles 5 for parcels 2 may also be in the form of tilting trays or equipped with a motorized belt designed to eject the parcels 2 to the side of the sorting conveyor 3 into the sorting outlets 4.

[0036] Without restricting the scope of the invention, the receptacles 5 for parcels 2 can be connected to each other by the carriages 6 to form a plurality of trains 7 of receptacles 5 for parcels 2 which follow one another in the conveying direction D1, as shown in [Fig.4],

[0037] Each train 7 of receptacles 5 will preferably comprise the same type of receptacles 5, with bucket or tray, in order to optimize the arrangement of the sorting outlets 3 for the same train 7 of receptacles 5.

[0038] It is however possible to use a different number of receptacles 5 per train 7, for example a train of three receptacles followed by a train of five receptacles followed by a train of four receptacles, etc.

[0039] The sorting conveyor 3 according to the invention comprises two parallel rails 8 which extend in the conveying direction D1.

[0040] More particularly, the sorting conveyor 3 comprises a main conveyor 3A which splits into two secondary conveyors 3B over a certain portion of conveying.

[0041] It is therefore understood that the main conveyor 3A and the secondary conveyors 3B also each have two parallel rails 8 which extend in the conveying direction D1.

[0042] The sorting conveyor 3 is here equipped with a switching system 9 designed to switch the trolleys 6 towards one or other of the secondary conveyors 3B.

[0043] A switching system 9 of the same type may also be provided downstream in the conveying direction D1 in order to switch the carriages 6 towards the main conveyor 3A from one or other of the secondary conveyors 3B.

[0044] By way of non-limiting examples, the switching system 9 may be either active with movable switch blades controlled by a central unit 10 so as to switch the carriages onto one or other of the secondary conveyors, or passive as shown in [Fig. 2], that is to say without the rails having any movable part.

[0045] In the case of a passive switch, each carriage 6 according to the invention comprises a coupling element 11 designed to be fitted onto a rail 8 of the main conveyor 3A which serves as a steering rail 8A to guide the carriage 6 in the conveying direction and a stabilizing element 12 arranged to bear on the other rail 8 of the main conveyor 3A which serves as a follower rail 8B to vertically support the carriage 6 in its movement in the conveying direction DL.

[0046] More particularly, each of the secondary conveyors 3B comprises a rail 8 which serves as a steering rail 8A and which extends in the extension of the steering rail 8A of the main conveyor 3A so that the movement of a carriage 6 towards one or other of the secondary conveyors 3B depends on the steering rail 8A of the main conveyor 3A on which the upright of the carriage 6 is fitted.

[0047] The rails 8 of the main conveyor can therefore take on the function of director rail 8A or follower rail 8B depending on the rail 8 on which the carriage 6 is fitted.

[0048] The rails 8 of the main conveyor are therefore each extended by the director rail 8A of the secondary conveyors without any discontinuity.

[0049] Thanks to this passive switching, the sorting conveyor 3 can switch the trains 7 of receptacles 5 towards one or other of the secondary conveyors 3B passively, that is to say that the trains 7 move in the conveying direction D1 in em- always using the same secondary conveyor 3B.

[0050] Passive switching has the advantage over active switching of not moving portions of rails 8 whose mass is very significant and whose movement would have to be carried out very quickly given the speed of the trains 7 and their proximity.

[0051] Also, the use of passive switching requires fitting the successive trains 7 of receptacles 5 alternately onto the rails 8 of the main conveyor 3A so that the secondary conveyors 3B receive one train 7 of receptacles 5 out of two.

[0052] Also, to facilitate the movement of the carriages 6 on the rails 8, the coupling element 11 and the stabilizing element 12 comprise rolling friction means 13 designed to roll on the rails.

[0053] The rails 8 of the sorting conveyor 3 as shown are tubular rails against which the coupling 11 and stabilizing 12 elements come into contact, and in particular the rolling friction means 13.

[0054] In a different but in no way limiting manner, the rails 8 of the sorting conveyor 3 could also be in the form of straight-edged profile rails.

[0055] It is understood here that the carriages 6 of the same train 7 must be fitted onto the same rail 8 in order to be able to be switched together onto the same secondary conveyor 3B.

[0056] The switching system 9 according to the invention is here arranged so that the follower rails 8B of the secondary conveyors 3B cross to form a switching frog 9A.

[0057] The switching hub 9A, shown in [Fig. 5], here makes it possible to move the stabilizing element 11 of a carriage 6 on the follower rail 8B on one or other of the secondary conveyors 3B depending on the steering rail 8A on which the carriage 6 is fitted.

[0058] The switching center 9A is here in the form of a substantially flat platform which is inserted at the intersection of the follower rails 8B of the secondary conveyors 3B.

[0059] More particularly, the follower rails 8B of the secondary conveyors 3B and the platform have a continuous support surface for the stabilizing element 12 in the conveying direction so that the carriages 6 can move on a follower rail 8B of a secondary conveyor 3B and cross the follower rail 8B of the other secondary conveyor 3B without being disturbed in their movement.

[0060] In the case of the use of a passive switching system 9, it is also possible to provide two transition rails 14 which each form the junction between a rail 8 of the main conveyor 3A and a follower rail 8B of one of the secondary conveyors 3B.

[0061] Each transition rail 14 is here designed to support the stabilizing element 12 of a carriage 6 during the movement of the stabilizing element 12 in the conveying direction DI as soon as the stabilizing element 12 is no longer supported on the follower rail 8B of the main conveyor 3A and until the stabilizing element 12 is again supported on the follower rail 8B of the secondary conveyor 3B.

[0062] The stabilizing element 12 will comprise, for example, a roller 15 offset on the top or on the side of the carriage 6 to come into contact with the transitional rail 14.

[0063] An alternative to the use of transition rail 14 is to use stabilizing elements 12 comprising two contact elements 16 spaced from each other in the conveying direction capable of coming to bear on at least one follower rail 8B so that the stabilizing element 12 of a carriage 6 always comprises a contact element 16 bearing on at least one follower rail 8B of the main conveyor 3A and / or one of the secondary conveyors 3B during its movement from the main conveyor 3A to a secondary conveyor 3B.

[0064] Without restricting the scope of the invention, it is entirely possible to combine the use of the transitional rails 14 with stabilizing elements 12 with two spaced contact elements 16.

[0065] The sorting installation according to the invention also comprises devices 17 for inserting parcels 2 designed to insert the parcels 2 onto the receptacles 5 being conveyed on each of the secondary conveyors 3B.

[0066] By way of non-limiting example, the insertion devices 17 are here arranged to come flush with the sorting conveyor 3 so that the packages 2 are injected transversely to the conveying direction DI by simple sliding or by driving by motorized belts.

[0067] The receptacles 5 for parcels 2 may also advantageously have a surface for placing the parcel 2 which extends substantially at the same height as the rails 8 of the sorting conveyor 3.

[0068] This makes it possible in particular to limit the proximity between the parcels and the receptacles on the way up, to reduce the constraints on the rails 8 and the trolleys 6 and to facilitate the evacuation of the parcels 2, whether under the sorting conveyor 3 or on the side of the sorting conveyor 3.

[0069] Thanks to the sorting installation 1 according to the invention, it is possible to optimize the sorting rate by conveying the parcels 2 at high speed on the main conveyor 3A and by circulating on two parallel tracks to maintain the overall rate at the level of the insertion devices 17 on the secondary conveyors 3B where the speed is divided by 2.

[0070] For this, the central unit 10 is configured to control the speed of movement of the trains 7 of receptacles 5 for parcels 2 so that each train 7 of receptacles 5 moves at a speed VI on the main conveyor 3A and at a speed V2 on the secondary conveyors 3B, speed V2 being equal to half of speed VI.

[0071] The speed VI will for example be between 1.5 and 2m / s (meter per second), preferably 1.8m / s.

[0072] For a nominal speed of 1.8m / s on the main conveyor 3A, it is understood that the speed on the secondary conveyors 3B at the level of the insertion devices will be 0.9m / s.

[0073] More particularly, the central unit 10 is configured to control the speed of movement of the trains 7 of receptacles 5 for parcels 2 so that each train 7 of receptacles 5 accelerates from speed VI to a speed Vmax then slows down from speed Vmax to speed V2, so as to create sufficient space between two successive trains 7 in the conveying direction DI fitted on different steering rails 8A to allow them to cross on the secondary conveyors 3B.

[0074] The speed Vmax is calculated as a function of the length of the receptacle trains 7 and the length of the switching system 9.

[0075] By length of the switching system 9, we consider a point in space representative of the place where the trolley 6 or the train 7 of receptacles 5 leaves the main conveyor 3A up to the switching frog 9A.

[0076] By way of example, the speeds which are used to achieve acceleration and deceleration kinetics of the carriages 6 according to the invention in the case of a minimum radius of curvature of the deviations of 2 meters are the following:

[0077] The acceleration is at 4m / s2 for 175ms and extends over 376mm to reach Vmax at 2.5m / s.

[0078] Vmax is then maintained for 1.5s and extends over 3.75m.

[0079] Finally, braking at 0.9m / s lasts 400ms and extends over 680mm.

[0080] It will be understood that this successive acceleration and deceleration allow the carriages 6 or the trains 7 of receptacles 5 to move on their follower rail 8B passing through the switch frog 9A without colliding, as shown in [Fig.3].

[0081] It will be understood that the length of all the carriages 6 is less than the length of the sorting conveyor 3 so as to maintain the necessary space between two carriages 6 or two trains 7 at the time of passage over the switching frog 9A.

[0082] Finally, apart from the acceleration and deceleration of the carriages 6 at the switching system 9, the speeds of the carriages 6 on the main conveyor 3A and the secondary conveyors 3B are respectively constant.
