Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Contactless smart card equipped with a three-dimensional position sensor.
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of contactless smart cards.
[0002] Contactless smart cards are now well known and used for many numerous applications, indistinctly called functions. For example, in banking, a contactless chip card allows cash payment or deferred or staggered payment over time.
[0003] There are also contactless smart cards for other non-banking applications, for example subscription cards, access cards, electronic purses, etc.
[0004] We are therefore seeing a multiplication of applications, which implies a multiplication of physical media. Such a multiplication of media is not eco-responsible since it requires, in particular, the use of just as much plastic.
[0005] Furthermore, from an ergonomic point of view, the multiplication of smart cards increases the volume required to store and transport them, with the same risks of loss or theft that this implies.
[0006] For the sake of brevity, the "contactless" character will generally be omitted in this description.
[0007] For the sake of brevity, a single example will also be taken here in which the contactless chip card is a bank card. For the sake of brevity, the term "bank account" means a bank account or a customer account with a merchant.
[0008] In this field, it appears useful for a user to be able to use the same means of payment for several functions. If there are mobile applications for smartphones, the present invention aims here to propose a solution making it possible to implement at least two functions with a single smart card.
[0009] The examples are illustrative and not limiting.
[0010] Thanks to the present invention, it is for example possible to implement: - A first payment function in a first currency, and - A second payment function in a second currency.
[0011] For example, the first currency is the EURO and the second currency is the US dollar or a cryptocurrency. A payment function is understood to mean indistinctly a debit (payment) or credit (reimbursement) order from a bank account.
[0012] It is also possible to implement: - A first immediate payment function in a first currency, and - A second deferred (or staggered) payment function in the first currency.
[0013] At a merchant, a user can thus choose the first function to pay in cash, or the second function to pay in X installments, with X a natural integer which depends on the merchant.
[0014] For the purposes of the present invention, there is therefore a first electronic circuit which makes it possible to activate the first function, and a second electronic circuit which makes it possible to activate the second function, as described later.
[0015] According to a first of its objects, the invention relates to a contactless smart card comprising:

[0110] horizontally on a magnetic reader. A standard smart card comprises a first electronic circuit. The first electronic circuit comprises: - A first secure element 10, which comprises a secure processor, and a set of data; - a first antenna (not shown), allowing communication with a smart card reader, and - a concentrator equipped with an antenna comprising a first connection pole 31 and a second connection pole 32, and which is configured to receive energy from the first antenna and distribute it to at least one of the first secure element 10 and a second secure element 20 described later. Activation of the first electronic circuit makes it possible to implement a first function, indistinctly “application”, for example a payment in a first predetermined currency. According to the invention, a smart card further comprises a second electronic circuit, distinct from the first electronic circuit and, which according to the embodiments described below, can be in direct electrical connection or without direct electrical connection with the first electronic circuit. The second electronic circuit comprises a second secure element 20, which comprises a secure processor, and a data set. Activation of the second electronic circuit makes it possible to implement a second function, indistinctly "application", for example a payment in a second predetermined currency. Other functions can be provided. For example: - the first function corresponds to an immediate debit order, and - the second function corresponds to a deferred or staggered debit order. Preferably, a single module is provided comprising the first secure element 10 and the second secure element 20. Obviously, activating the first electronic circuit must not activate the second electronic circuit, and vice versa. For this purpose, it is provided that only one of the first electronic circuit and the second electronic circuit is closed by default. To selectively implement one or other of the functions, a three-dimensional position sensor 40 is provided, the signal value of which makes it possible to selectively activate the first function or the second function. The three-dimensional position sensor 40 is configured to emit a signal representative of at least one of: - the position of the smart card in space, - the acceleration of the smart card in space, and - the movement of the smart card in space.
[0111] In this case, the three-dimensional position sensor 40 is a 3-dimensional accelerometer, which is in the form of a microelectromechanical system (MEMS), which sends a signal representative of its orientation in space; for example a 3-axis gyroscope, or 3-axis magnetometer, or a 3-axis accelerometer.
[0112] For this purpose, the following embodiments are provided.
[0113] In a first embodiment, the first secure element 10 is configured to be able to selectively execute a first function or a second function.
[0114] When the smart card is powered by a reader, the first function or the second function is selectively activated depending on the value of the signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0115] For example, when the first face is adjacent to a reader which supplies power to the smart card, then the three-dimensional position sensor 40 emits a first value, for example of which the vertical component of the signal is positive, and the first function of the first secure element 10 is activated.
[0116] Conversely, when the second face is adjacent to a reader which supplies power to the smart card, then the three-dimensional position sensor 40 emits a second value, for example of which the vertical component of the signal is negative, and the second function of the first secure element 10 is activated.
[0117] In this case, it is advantageous to configure the three-dimensional position sensor 40, or add a microcontroller 70, so that the function activated by the first secure element 10 depends only on the sign of the vertical component of the signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0118] In a second embodiment, the smart card comprises the first secure element 10, which is configured to be able to execute a first function, and a second secure element 20 which is configured to be able to execute a second function.
[0119] Advantageously, the smart card comprises a single antenna, capable of communicating without contact with the antenna 30 of the concentrator, to supply energy to the first secure element 10 and the second secure element 20.
[0120] The first secure element 10 is electrically connected at least to the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator.
[0121] The smart card is configured so as to be able to selectively activate the first function or the second function when it is powered by a reader, the first function or the second function being selectively activated depending on the value of the signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0122] In a first variant of the second embodiment, illustrated in [Fig.6], the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is also electrically connected to the first secure element 10.
[0123] The first secure element 10 is therefore connected to the two connection poles of the antenna 30 of the concentrator.
[0124] The first secure element 10 and the second secure element 20 are configured in a master / slave configuration, in which the first secure element 10 is configured as master and the second secure element 20 is configured as slave.
[0125] The second secure element 20 is electrically connected to the first secure element 10, for example by a general input / output IO port.
[0126] In this variant, the three-dimensional position sensor 40 is electrically connected at least to the first secure element 10, from which it receives its electrical power supply Vcc_Out, and to which it sends its output signal, for example via a general input / output IO port.
[0127] Depending on the value of the signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40, the first secure element 10 is activated as master, or it is inhibited so as to activate the second secure element 20 as slave.
[0128] When the first secure element 10 is activated as master, it inhibits the slave.
[0129] Activation of the slave by the master inhibits the master, i.e. inhibits its function but the first secure element 10 (master) remains a power supply gateway for the second secure element 20 (slave). When activating the slave, the slave accesses the antenna 30 of the concentrator via certain ports of the master, in this case via a general input / output port of the master to the IO port of the slave, illustrated in dotted lines in [Fig.6].
[0130] In a second variant of the second embodiment, illustrated in [Fig.l], the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is further connected to the second secure element 20.
[0131] In this case, a second connection pad (Lb) of the second secure element 20 is electrically connected to a second connection pad (Lb) of the first secure element 10, and the second connection pad (Lb) of the first secure element 10 is electrically connected to the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator via the first secure element 10 with which it is electrically connected.
[0132] The second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is electrically connected selectively to the first secure element 10 or to the second secure element 20, by means of a first switch 61, for example a static relay.
[0133] In this variant, the following are also provided:
[0134] - a microcontroller 70, and
[0135] - said first switch 61 controlled by the microcontroller 70.
[0136] The first switch 61 can selectively adopt:
[0137] - a first position in which the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is electrically connected to the first secure element 10 by a first connection pad (La) of the first secure element 10, which cuts off the communication of the second secure element 20, and
[0138] - a second position in which the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is electrically connected to the second secure element 20, by a first connection pad (La) of the second secure element 20; which cuts off the communication of the first secure element 10.
[0139] The signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40 is sent to the microcontroller 70 to control the position of said first switch 61.
[0140] The smart card further comprises a power management device 50, preferably electrically powered via the antenna 30 of the concentrator, and configured to control the electrical power of at least the microcontroller 70 and the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0141] In a third variant of the second embodiment, illustrated in [Fig.2], the first secure element 10 is not electrically connected directly to the second secure element 20.
[0142] In this variant: - the first secure element 10 can be electrically connected to the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator via a first switch 61, and to the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator via a second switch 62; and - the second secure element 20 can be electrically connected to the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator via the first switch 61, and to the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator via the second switch 62.
[0143] A microcontroller 70 is further provided.
[0144] The first switch 61 is controlled by the microcontroller 70 and can selectively adopt: - a first position in which the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is electrically connected to the first secure element 10, and - a second position in which the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is electrically connected to the second secure element 20;
[0145] Similarly, the second switch 62 is controlled by the microcontroller 70 and can selectively adopt: - a first position in which the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is electrically connected to the first secure element 10, and - a second position in which the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator is electrically connected to the second secure element 20.
[0146] The signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40 is sent to the microcontroller 70 to control the position of the first switch 61 and the second switch 62, said first switch 61 and said second switch 62 being configured to simultaneously adopt the first position or the second position.
[0147] The smart card further comprises a power management device 50, preferably electrically powered by the antenna 30 of the concentrator, and configured to control the electrical power of the microcontroller 70 and the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0148] For example, the first switch 61 and the second switch 62 are in the form of a double static relay.
[0149] In a fourth variant of the second embodiment, illustrated in [Fig. 3], the first secure element 10 is electrically connected directly to the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator by means of a first specific connection pad Lb, and to the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator by means of a second specific connection pad La.
[0150] The second secure element 20 is electrically connected to the first secure element 10 via a first specific connection pad Lb and a second specific connection pad La of the second secure element 20, which are electrically connected to the first specific connection pad Lb and to the second specific connection pad La of the first secure element 10.
[0151] In this way, the second secure element 20 is electrically connected to the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator via the first specific connection pad Lb, and to the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator via the second specific connection pad La.
[0152] A microcontroller 70 is further provided, which is electrically connected to the three-dimensional position sensor 40 and which comprises: - a first general purpose input-output port (GPIO), connected to the power supply connection pad (Vcc) of the first secure element 10, and through which a first binary power supply signal can pass; and - a second general purpose input-output port (GPIO), connected to the power supply connection pad (Vcc) of the second secure element 20, and through which a second binary power supply signal can pass.
[0153] Preferably, a binary signal 0 (Gnd) or 1 (Vcc) is used to power the first secure element 10. By default the signal is at 0. The same is true for powering the second secure element 20.
[0154] The common collector voltage (Vcc) of the first secure element 10, like the common collector voltage (Vcc) of the second secure element 20, is output by the microcontroller 70 on a respective general purpose input-output (GPIO) port.
[0155] The ground (Gnd) of the first secure element 10 is connected to the ground (Gnd) of the second secure element 20 and to the ground of the microcontroller 70. The ground (Gnd) of the other components is not illustrated, but all grounds are connected to each other.
[0156] The smart card further comprises a power management device 50, preferably electrically powered by the antenna 30 of the concentrator, and configured to control the electrical power of the microcontroller 70 and the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0157] In this variant, there is a common ground (Gnd) and the power supply (Vcc) of the first or second secure element 20 is selectively activated using the microcontroller 70 which acts as a switch.
[0158] In a fifth variant of the second embodiment, illustrated in [Fig. 5], as according to the fourth variant, the first secure element 10 is electrically connected directly to the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator by means of a first specific connection pad Lb, and to the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator by means of a second specific connection pad La.
[0159] The second secure element 20 is electrically connected to the first secure element 10 via a first specific connection pad Lb and a second specific connection pad La of the second secure element 20, which are electrically connected to the first specific connection pad Lb and to the second specific connection pad La of the first secure element 10.
[0160] A microcontroller 70 is further provided, which is electrically connected to the three-dimensional position sensor 40 and which comprises: - a first general purpose input-output port (GPIO), connected to the ground connection pad (Gnd) of the first secure element 10, and through which a first binary power supply signal can pass; and - a second general purpose input-output port (GPIO), connected to the ground connection pad (Gnd) of the second secure element 20, and through which a second binary power supply signal can pass.
[0161] By default, it can be provided that the first binary power supply signal is at 1 (Vcc); in which case the first secure element 10 is inactive. The first binary signal is set to 0 or Vdd to activate the first secure element 10, provided that the voltage Vcc-Vdd is sufficient to power the first secure element 10.
[0162] By default, it can be provided that the second binary signal is at 1 (Vcc); in which case the second secure element 20 is inactive. The second binary signal is set to 0 or Vdd to activate the second secure element 20, provided that the voltage Vcc-Vdd is sufficient to power the second secure element 20.
[0163] A power management device 50 may be provided, preferably electrically powered by the antenna 30 of the concentrator, and configured to control the electrical power of the microcontroller 70, the three-dimensional position sensor 40, the first secure element 10 and the second secure element 20.
[0164] Unlike the fourth variant, here we have a common power supply (Vcc) and we selectively activate the ground (Gnd) thanks to the microcontroller 70 which acts as a switch.
[0165] In a sixth variant of the second embodiment, illustrated in [Fig.4], as according to the fourth variant, the first secure element 10 is electrically connected directly to the first connection pole 31 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator by means of a first specific connection pad Lb, and to the second connection pole 32 of the antenna 30 of the concentrator by means of a second specific connection pad La.
[0166] The second secure element 20 is electrically connected to the first secure element 10 via a first specific connection pad Lb and a second specific connection pad La of the second secure element 20, which are electrically connected to the first specific connection pad Lb and to the second specific connection pad La of the first secure element 10.
[0167] A microcontroller 70 is further provided, which is electrically connected to the three-dimensional position sensor 40 and which comprises: - a first general purpose input-output port (GPIO), connected to a reset connection pad (Rst) or to a clock connection pad (Clk) of the first secure element 10, and through which a first reset signal or a clock signal can pass respectively; and - a second general purpose input-output port (GPIO), connected to a reset connection pad (Rst) or to a clock connection pad (Clk) of the second secure element 20, and through which a second reset signal or a clock signal can pass respectively.
[0168] In [Fig.4], only the reset connection pads (Rst) are illustrated. Those skilled in the art will easily transpose this to the connection pads of the clock Clk.
[0169] A power management device 50 may be provided, preferably electrically powered by the antenna 30 of the concentrator, and configured to control the electrical power of the microcontroller 70, of the three-dimensional position sensor 40, of the first secure element 10 and second secure element 20.
[0170] On the clock connection pad (Clk): - if the first secure element 10 receives a signal at 0 then it is inactive; - if the first secure element 10 receives a periodic clock signal then it is activated; the periodic clock signal being generated by the microcontroller 70 as a function of the value of the signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0171] On the reset connection pad (Rst): - if the first secure element 10 receives a signal at 0 then it is inactive; - if the first secure element 10 receives a signal at 1 then it is activated; the reset signal being generated by the microcontroller 70 as a function of the value of the signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0172] The microcontroller 70 acts as a switch.
[0173] The power supply of the first secure element 10 and the second secure element 20 is not provided by the reset connection pad Rst or the clock connection pad Clk, but on another connection pad, in this case the connection pads La and Lb. It is also possible to provide power supply to the first secure element 10 and the second secure element 20 by the power management device 50.
[0174] According to another embodiment, the microcontroller 70 is configured to detect the accelerations of the smart card in a predetermined direction, using the signal from the three-dimensional position sensor 40.
[0175] In particular, it is planned to detect accelerations along a vertical axis.
[0176] It is then possible to plan to count the number of accelerations that the smart card undergoes in a predetermined time window.
[0177] Thanks to the number of accelerations counted and the position of the smart card in space, it is possible to selectively activate the first function, the second function or another function, according to at least one of: - the number of smart card accelerations counted in the predetermined time window, and - the position of the smart card in space.
[0178] For example:
[0179] - if a user presents the front side of the smart card to a reader with an ac acceleration in a substantially vertical direction within a predetermined time window, then the first function is activated, for example a cash payment in a first currency;
[0180] - if a user presents the back side of the smart card on a reader with an ac acceleration in a substantially vertical direction within a predetermined time window, then the second function is activated, for example a deferred payment or staggered in a first currency;
[0181] - if a user presents the front side of the smart card on a reader with two ac accelerations in a substantially vertical direction within a predetermined time window, then a third function is activated, for example a cash payment in a second currency;
[0182] - if a user presents the back side of the smart card on a reader with two ac accelerations in a substantially vertical direction within a predetermined time window, then a fourth function is activated, for example a deferred or staggered payment in a second currency. Nomenclature
