Description

Title of the invention: Retention system

[0001] The present invention relates to a retention system comprising a sleeve forming internal retention means and a rod forming externally a retention profile. The rod is fixedly and axially engaged in the sleeve with the retention profile in contact with the retention means, such that the rod is fixed to the sleeve during axial movement.

[0002] This retention system is notably used in pumps at the level of the actuating rod, on which a pusher is mounted, which the user can actuate by pressing on it with a finger.

[0003] In a well-known configuration shown in [Fig. 1], the actuating rod is axially movable in a reciprocating motion within a pump body 5a against a spring 4a. The actuating rod comprises an upper portion on which a pusher is mounted and a lower portion on which a piston 3a is mounted. The pump chamber C is formed below the lower portion and the piston 3a. The upper portion forms a sleeve la, and the lower portion forms a rod 2a that is fixedly engaged in the sleeve la. The piston 3a can slide around the rod 2a and inside the sleeve la to open and close an outlet orifice, which communicates with an internal channel 14a formed inside the sleeve la. The piston 3a includes a sealing lip 31a that slides securely within the sleeve la. The piston 3a also includes a contact edge 32a which is forced into tight contact against a corolla 26a of the rod 2a under the action of the spring 4a.The piston 3a, together with the actuating rod and the spring 4a, forms the outlet valve of the pump.

[0004] More specifically, the sleeve la of the upper part forms internal retention means 13a and the stem 2a of the lower part forms externally a retention profile 23a. The retention means 13a of the sleeve la are formed by shoulder sectors separated by passages for the fluid product. The retention profile 23a of the stem is formed by an annular shoulder formed below an insertion head 21a of substantially ogival or pointed shape.

[0005] During assembly, the insertion head 21a is engaged in the sleeve la until it comes into contact with the shoulder sectors 13a of the sleeve la. A very strong axial force must then be applied to force the insertion head 21a between the shoulder sectors 13a. This causes temporary and / or permanent deformations, both in the shoulder sectors and in the insertion head 21a. This press-fit assembly requires high dimensional accuracy to ensure tightening and mechanical strength. Often, the rod 2a is not immobilized in the sleeve la: radial play remains, which can lead to a Misalignment of the rod 2a relative to the sleeve la. This is explained by the fact that the insertion head 21a must be large enough to ensure axial engagement, but this size does not allow for radial contact between the shoulder sectors 13a and the rod 2a below the annular shoulder 23a.

[0006] On the other hand, the flow section of the fluid product between the shoulder sectors is limited, because axial attachment must be ensured.

[0007] During aging, the sensitivity of plastics to solvents present in the distributed formulations leads to weakness, which can result in stress cracking and dimensional variations. This limits the choice of plastics: frequent use of PBT resin, which is less sensitive, but disrupts recycling processes.

[0008] A solution already considered in the prior art and visible in [Fig. 1] consists of creating an axial window 27a in the insertion head 21a to give it greater elastic deformation capacity. However, this axial window 27a weakens the rod 2a, which can then deteriorate during assembly and / or use.

[0009] This type of retention system with a rod engaged in a sleeve can be found in other configurations, and in particular in a pump, for example at the point where the pusher is attached to the actuating rod or at the point of a movable valve element.

[0010] The present invention aims to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art described above by proposing a new retention system that requires a lower axial thrust force for assembling the rod in the sleeve. Another aim is to promote elastic deformation and minimize, or even eliminate, permanent deformation. Yet another aim is to increase the flow area. Finally, the invention also aims to avoid the need to use a specific type of plastic, such as PBT, so that the sleeve and the rod can be made of an easily recyclable plastic, such as PE or PP.

[0011] To this end, the present invention proposes a retention system defining a longitudinal axis X and comprising: - a sleeve forming internally at least one shoulder sector, and - a rod forming externally at least one retention profile, in which the rod is axially engaged along the longitudinal axis X in the sleeve with the retention profile in axial contact with the shoulder sector, characterized in that at least one of the retention means and the shoulder sector is formed by flexible tabs that are radially deformable.

[0012] Three cases are therefore possible: Case 1: Only the sleeve forms flexible legs, Case 2: Only the stem forms the flexible legs, or Case 3: The sleeve and the stem both form flexible legs.

[0013] In cases 1 and 3, the insertion head of the rod pushes the flexible tabs of the sleeve outwards without significant or perceptible permanent deformation. After the passage of the insertion head, the flexible tabs of the sleeve elastically extend to return to their resting state.

[0014] In cases 2 and 3, the shoulder sector(s) of the sleeve push(s) the flexible legs of the stem elastically inwards without significant or perceptible permanent deformation. After passing the shoulder sectors of the sleeve, the flexible legs of the stem elastically extend to return to their resting state.

[0015] Advantageously, the flexible legs extend substantially perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis X. If the longitudinal axis X can be considered vertical, the flexible legs extend horizontally. Thus, the flexible legs are deformable in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X. The movement of the flexible legs can be compared to that of the vanes of a diaphragm: the vanes move in a horizontal plane to vary the diaphragm opening. The same is true for the flexible legs, which move in a horizontal plane relative to the vertical axis X to vary the opening of the sleeve and / or reduce the diameter of the stem.

[0016] According to another possible definition, the flexible legs comprise radially movable free ends and fixed connecting ends, the free and fixed ends being located substantially at the same axial level.

[0017] In case 1 or 3, the flexible legs are formed by the sleeve, the stem may include an insertion head and a neck, the insertion head being connected to the neck by an annular shoulder forming the retention profile, this annular shoulder extending radially outwards from the neck, the insertion head deforming the flexible legs of the sleeve radially outwards during the insertion of the stem into the sleeve, the flexible legs (13) of the sleeve coming into radial contact with the neck and into axial contact with the annular shoulder. Advantageously, the flexible legs of the sleeve all come into radially firm contact with the neck.

[0018] In case 2 or 3, the rod may include an insertion head, the flexible legs are formed by the insertion head, the flexible legs deforming radially inwards when the rod is inserted into the sleeve, the flexible legs of the rod forming at least in part the retention profile which comes into axial contact with a shoulder sector of the sleeve, which may be formed by flexible legs or a conventional profile of the prior art.

[0019] In case 3, both the sleeve and the rod form flexible legs that come into axial contact. The flexible legs of the sleeve have a curvature opposite to that of the flexible legs of the rod, or vice versa. This ensures that the flexible legs are never axially aligned. The legs cross, which guarantees axial contact.

[0020] According to another feature of the invention, the stem can form a frustoconical section below the neck, the flexible tabs of the sleeve forming frustoconical lower surfaces that engage with the frustoconical section of the stem. Advantageously, the flexible tabs of the sleeve are in contact with both the annular shoulder, the neck, and the frustoconical section of the stem. The stem is thus fixed to the sleeve without axial play.

[0021] In one application, the sleeve can form passages for fluid around the rod and between the flexible legs. This is the case for the actuating rod of a pump. Advantageously, the rod forms a collar adapted to make a tight contact with a contact edge to form a valve.

[0022] According to another application, the rod can internally form a channel for the fluid product. This is the case for the plunger of a pump or a valve.

[0023] The invention also defines a fluid product dispenser comprising a retention system in which the fluid product passes through the retention system.

[0024] The spirit of the invention lies in the fact that the retention system mainly, or even solely, involves elastic deformation, preferably purely radial, in order to reduce the axial thrust force of insertion, while ensuring perfect axial centering.

[0025] The invention will now be described more fully, with reference to the accompanying drawings, giving by way of non-limiting examples, three embodiments of the invention.

[0036] [Fig.8] Fig.8 is a partially cut-out perspective view of a fluid product dispenser incorporating a retention system of the invention, and

[0037] [Fig.9] The [Fig.9] is a schematic vertical cross-sectional view of a pusher mounted on an actuating rod of a pump or valve.

[0038] In the three embodiments that will now be described, the retention system comprises a sleeve and a rod that is inserted and held in place within the sleeve, such that the two parts are then fixed together and form a single unit. Advantageously, there is no axial play between the sleeve and the rod. Axial play is nevertheless possible, as will be seen below.

[0039] In the first embodiment shown in Figures 2 to 5, the sleeve 1b and the rod 2b can form part of an actuating rod comparable to that of [Fig. 1], which was used to illustrate the prior art. The sleeve 1b forms the upper part and the rod 2b forms the lower part of the actuating rod.

[0040] The sleeve 1b comprises a cylindrical portion 10 that defines a longitudinal axis X and forms an internal wall 11, which is predominantly cylindrical. The cylindricity of the wall 11 is broken by several vertical ribs 12, which may extend over all or part of the height of the cylindrical portion 10. These vertical ribs 12 project radially inwards. Between these vertical ribs 12, several passage sections are defined for the fluid product, which flows inside the sleeve 1b. It can be noted that the passage sections are larger than the horizontal cross-sections of the vertical ribs 12.

[0041] According to the invention, the sleeve 1b forms several flexible tabs 13, which are elastically deformable. The flexible tabs 13 are advantageously formed at the vertical ribs 12. In other words, each vertical rib 12 is provided with a flexible tab 13, which is preferably located near the lower end of the vertical rib 12. The flexible tabs 13 extend substantially perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis X. Each flexible tab 13 comprises a radially movable free end 132 and a fixed connecting end 131, which is connected to its respective rib 12. The free ends 132 and fixed ends 131 are located substantially at the same axial level, so that the flexible tabs 13 are deformable in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X. The free ends 132 do not move axially, only horizontally or perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis X.

[0042] Referring to [Fig. 4], it can be seen that the flexible tabs 13 extend substantially in line with the ribs 12 towards the inside of the sleeve 1b, but not radially. In fact, the flexible tabs 13 have a curvature that deviates them from a perfectly radial direction, like a comma. The fixed connecting end 131 coincides with the rib 12, and the free end 132 extends to the center of the sleeve 1b.

[0043] It can be noted that the flexible tabs 13 form a contact area 133, oriented towards the center of the sleeve. This contact area 133 defines a section of a cylinder centered on the X-axis, so that the set of contact areas 133 of the different flexible tabs 13 define a fictitious cylinder centered on the X-axis.

[0044] While the neck 24 is cylindrical and the contact areas 133 of the flexible tabs 13 together define a fictitious cylinder centered on the X-axis, it would be possible to make the neck with a polygonal cross-section and the contact areas 133 with a complementary profile, in order to angularly orient the rod within the sleeve. Such angular orientation can prove useful in certain applications.

[0045] The flexible tabs 13 define upper surfaces 134, which are preferably flat and perpendicular to the X-axis, and lower surfaces 135, which are preferably frustoconical. The upper surfaces 134 constitute shoulder sectors within the meaning of the invention, which are intended to come into axial contact with the annular shoulder 23 of the rod 2b.

[0046] The stem 2b is preferably solid, except at its lower end, which forms a frustoconical corolla 26. Above this corolla 26, the stem 2b forms a main trunk 20, which is cylindrical. Above the trunk 20, the stem 2b forms a frustoconical section 25, which reduces the diameter of the main trunk 20. A neck 24 connects to the frustoconical section 25: the neck 24 is preferably cylindrical, but with a diameter smaller than that of the main trunk 20. It can be said that the frustoconical section 25 connects the trunk 20 and the neck 24, both of which are cylindrical. Above the neck 24, the stem 2b forms an insertion head 21, which connects the neck 24 by forming an annular shoulder 23, which extends in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X. The maximum diameter of the head 21 is greater than that of the neck 24.The insertion head 21 defines an external surface 22 of ogival or frustoconical shape to facilitate its insertion between the flexible tabs 13 of the sleeve 1b. As in [Fig. 1], the corolla 26 can be intended to make a tight contact with a contact edge formed by a piston or a fixed part.

[0047] In [Fig. 5], the rod 2b is seen being axially engaged in the sleeve 1b: only the head 21 of the rod 2b is inserted into the sleeve 1b. It is easy to understand that the head 21 of the rod 2b will come into contact with the flexible tabs 13. More precisely, the external surface 22 of the head 21 will come into contact with the surfaces The lower 135 of the flexible tabs 13. Contact between the ogival or truncated conical shape of the outer surface 22 and the truncated conical shape of the lower surfaces 135 induces a cam-like movement on the flexible tabs 13, which are deformed radially outwards, as previously described, in the manner of the lamellae of a diaphragm. The free ends 132 of the flexible tabs 13 are displaced towards the inner wall 11 of the sleeve 1b, with little or no axial component. The deformation of the flexible legs 13 is progressive depending on the configuration of the external surface 22 until reaching a maximum deformation, corresponding to the maximum diameter of the head 21, at the level of its annular shoulder 23. The flexible legs 13 will be able to relax elastically, as soon as the annular shoulder 23 of the head 21 has reached above the upper surfaces 134 of the flexible legs 13. This elastic relaxation can be described as snapping. The flexible legs 13 are then housed around the neck 24: the curved contact areas 133 advantageously make firm contact against the outer wall of the neck 24. Furthermore, the flat upper surfaces 134 of the flexible legs 13 advantageously make contact with the annular shoulder 23 of the stem 2b, and the truncated conical lower surfaces 135 advantageously make contact with the truncated conical section 25 of the stem 2b. Thus, no play remains between the stem 2b and the sleeve 1b, either axially or radially. It can be seen in [Fig. 2] that the flexible legs 13 completely fill the space formed by the neck 24. The outer surface 22 of the head 21, however, can remain separated from the vertical ribs 12.

[0048] Figures 6a and 6b illustrate a first embodiment in which the sleeve 1b is identical or similar to that of the embodiment shown in Figures 2 to 5. The stem 2c of Figures 6a and 6b differs from that of Figures 2 to 5 in that the neck 24c is longer than the neck 24, which implies that the annular shoulder 23 is further from the frustoconical sector 25 than in the first embodiment shown in Figures 2 to 5. Since the flexible tabs 13 of the sleeve 1b are identical to those in Figures 2 to 5, it follows that the upper surfaces 134 and the lower surfaces 135 cannot both come into contact with the annular shoulder 23 and the frustoconical sector 25 at the same time. A firm contact of the flexible tabs 13 against the neck 24c is preferred. On [Fig.6a], there remains a space El between the lower surfaces 135 and the truncated conical sector 25, while the upper surfaces 134 are in contact with the annular shoulder 23.In [Fig. 6b], a space E2 remains between the upper surfaces 134 and the annular shoulder 23, while the lower surfaces 135 are in contact with the frustoconical sector 25. The rod 2c is therefore fixed to the sleeve 1b, but it can move axially relative to the sleeve 1b over an axial stroke corresponding to the space E2. This variant. This implementation may be appropriate in cases where the rod needs to move axially relative to the sleeve.

[0049] Figures 7a and 7b illustrate a second embodiment in which the sleeve 1b is identical or similar to that of the embodiment shown in Figures 2 to 5. The rod 2d of Figures 7a and 7b differs from that of Figures 2 to 5 in that the insertion head 21d of the rod 2d forms flexible tabs 213, which are deformable in the same way as the flexible tabs 13 of the sleeve 1b, i.e., radially like a diaphragm. However, the flexible tabs 13 are deformable radially outwards to open the passage of the head 21 or 21d, whereas the flexible tabs 213 are deformable radially inwards to reduce the effective diameter of the head 21d.

[0050] More specifically, the flexible legs 213 are in the form of twisted or helical lamellae, extending over a major part of the height of the head 21d. At their lower ends adjacent to the neck 24, the legs 213 together form an annular shoulder 214, which comes into contact, preferably pressed against, the upper surfaces 134 of the legs 13 of the sleeve 1b. The legs 13 preferably come into pressed contact against the neck 24, and the lower surfaces 135 come into contact with the frustoconical sector 25. In [Fig. 7b], it can be noted that the legs 13 of the sleeve 1b have a curvature opposite to that of the legs 213 of the head 21d, in order to ensure constant axial contact between the legs 13 and 213.

[0051] When the head 21d is inserted into the sleeve 2b, the tabs 13 of the sleeve 1b are pushed radially outwards and the tabs 213 of the head 21d are pushed radially inwards. This simultaneous double deformation reduces the axial thrust force without reducing the final axial engagement.

[0052] As an alternative not shown, it is possible to replace the flexible tabs 13 of the sleeve 1b with conventional, non-deformable shoulder sectors, similar or identical to those of [Fig.1].

[0053] The sleeve 1b and the rod 2b, 2c and 2d can be made of any suitable plastic material, and preferably PE or PP, for which recycling is efficient.

[0054] The retention systems of the invention described above with reference to Figures 2 to 7b can be implemented in various applications, in various devices, and in particular in a fluid product dispenser equipped with a pump or a valve. In the latter case, fluid product is intended to pass through the retention system, either between the flexible tabs 13 and / or 213, or inside the stem.

[0055] In [Fig.8], we see a method of applying the invention which is similar to that Figures 1 to 5, namely a controllable valve. In [Fig. 1], the corolla 26a serves a sealed bearing zone for the piston 3a, which is axially movable around the rod 2a and inside the sleeve la. In the embodiment of [Fig.8], the sleeve le and the rod 2e are axially movable against a return spring 4. The corolla 26 of the rod 2e is constrained to bear against a sealing edge 32, which is fixed. The attachment of the rod 2e inside the sleeve le can be strictly identical or similar to that of the first embodiment of figures 2 to 5, i.e. with flexible tabs 13 engaged under an insertion head 21 forming an annular shoulder 23 and a narrowed neck 24. The movement of the fixed assembly formed by the sleeve le and the rod 2e allows the corolla 26 to be detached from the support edge 32, so as to open a passage for the fluid product, which will then flow inside the sleeve le around the rod 2e, and in particular around its insertion head 21.

[0056] This second application method is therefore very similar to the first one shown in Figures 2 to 5, except that there is no movable piston around the rod 2e. A retention system as shown in Figures 7a and 7b could also have been implemented.

[0057] In [Fig. 9], the retention system of the invention has been implemented to mount a pusher P on an actuating rod, and in particular on the free end of a sleeve If. The pusher P forms an outlet conduit PI, which opens at a distribution orifice P2. This outlet conduit PI is connected upstream to a channel 27 formed inside a rod 2f, which forms at its lower end an insertion head 21, similar or identical to that of the previous embodiments. Indeed, the head 21 forms a flat annular shoulder 23 which then extends into a narrowed neck 24 and a frustoconical section 25. The channel 27 passes through the entire length of the rod 2f and opens at the lower end of the insertion head 21f. The sleeve If forms internally several flexible tabs 13, which may be identical or similar to the tabs 13 of the first embodiment. It should be noted, however, that there are no vertical ribs 12 in this embodiment: the flexible tabs 13 are directly connected to the inner wall of the If sleeve. The tabs 13 are elastically snapped into the housing formed by the neck 24, advantageously coming into contact with the annular shoulder 23 and the frustoconical section 25. To ensure the sealing of the rod 2f inside the If sleeve, a sealing ring 28 is further provided which projects radially outwards and comes into contact with the inner wall of the If sleeve.

[0058] By axial pressure on the pusher P, the actuating rod is pushed into the inside of the pump body, which has the effect of opening the outlet valve, which may be similar or comparable to that of [Fig.1], so that a dose of fluid product is pumped into the sleeve If, then through the channel 27 and finally through the outlet conduit PI which opens at the distribution port P2.

[0059] In this embodiment, the product passes through the retention system, and more particularly the rod 2f, which was not the case in previous embodiments.

[0060] Although the second and third embodiments have been briefly described, it should be understood that some or all of the features of the first embodiment and of these two variants can be implemented in these second and third embodiments, and in particular the features of the flexible legs 13 and / or 213.

[0061] In all cases, the retention system of the invention comprises flexible tabs that flex elastically radially outwards or inwards as the insertion head of the stem passes through, thus lodging themselves by elastic release and snapping into place at the neck, forming a local constriction of the stem. Contact with the annular shoulder and the frustoconical section is advantageous, but not essential. Radially firm contact of the flexible tabs against the outer wall of the neck is advantageous, but not mandatory.

[0062] More generally, the invention provides for the implementation of flexible tabs that move radially in the manner of the blades of a diaphragm at the point where a rod inserted into a sleeve is attached. This means that the flexible tabs can be made at the sleeve, as is the case in all the figures, or at the rod, in particular at the insertion head 21, as is the case in Figures 7a and 7b.

[0063] Whether the flexible legs are formed at the level of the sleeve and / or the rod, the purpose of the invention remains the same, namely that the insertion of the rod inside the sleeve generates only reversible elastic deformations and very little or no permanent deformations.
