[0011] These facts are described in order to illustrate the technical problem solved by the advances of this document. Summary of the invention

[0012] The present disclosure relates to a sensitive wood-based product or article, a method of production and uses thereof.

[0013] The now disclosed sensory wood-based product will result in a revolutionary and intuitive human-machine interface, adding value and new functions to common products / substrates in the home, namely wood-based wall panel substrates and furniture, which can be considered as wood-based substrates. By taking advantage of the deposited sensors, it is now possible to integrate, in a more synergistic manner, in the environment, the sensors directly into the wood-based product, becoming an integral part thereof.

[0014] Vibration responses are very useful for providing a response / feedback to the user regarding its activation in a specific scenario. The use of sensors with this capability makes it possible to give the user a physical response regarding his action. For example, its combination with printed capacitive touch sensors allows the user to have a physical perception of the action he has performed by activating / deactivating the touch sensor.

[0015] One possible embodiment is to have sensors incorporated into different pieces of furniture that can be rearranged within the living space. These sensors will trigger different actions within the home, for example, turning on / off lights, controlling blinds and an SOS help button. In conjunction with these, there may also be a haptic feedback system, also produced by the printing technique, which will give each of the buttons a suitable vibration sensation to the user when activated.

[0016] In one embodiment, the sensor will be applied to the back surface of the wood-based substrate, while on the front there will only be a visual indication of where it should be pressed and what it will trigger, providing a seamless solution.

[0017] Indoor environmental control is also important for user comfort. To achieve this, deposited humidity and temperature sensors are embedded in a wood-based substrate, such as typical furniture, such as a tabletop. These sensors will monitor conditions and send alerts or turn on / off air conditioning equipment whenever predefined values are exceeded.

[0018] Furthermore, the present document discloses not only these embodiments, but also the incorporation of sensors that will help detect falls or intrusions in a specific environment. To do this, vibration sensors can be integrated into the wood-based substrate, such as the floor of a modular building system, and when they detect a vibration above the defined threshold, they generate an alert for the user.

[0019] This disclosure relates to a sensitive wood-based product comprising a sensor for detecting a risky situation in a home, which may be a humidity sensor, a sensor that detects a physical orientation, a proximity sensor, an acceleration sensor, an atmospheric pressure sensor, a molecular compound sensor, a sensor for detecting a chemical change, a shock sensor, a vibration sensor, a light sensor, wherein said sensor is located on the surface of a wood-based substrate.

[0020] The disclosed sensor is connected to an electronic control unit which can be realized using a printed circuit board (PCB). The developed electronic board can be integrated and fixed on cavities of modular construction panels.

[0021] In one embodiment, the PCB portion may be integrated and secured inside the furniture, for example a table top or a movable door of a piece of furniture.

[0022] In one embodiment, the PCB portion comprises a dimension less than 10 cm length x 10 cm width x 2.5 cm thickness, preferably less than 6 cm x 6 cm x 1.5 cm on each side (square).

[0023] Prefabricated modular construction technology allows the integration of sensing technology into built environments, as well as the integration of equipment inherent to its proper functioning, through coatings and materials associated with the monitoring and detection of spaces, namely wood-based materials, facilitated by the flexibility and scalability of the construction system, thanks to the optimization of the entire production process and detailed planning of panel production in an industrial environment.

[0024] All panels produced in the construction technology have a standardized shape, thanks to the machining of all its components. All wall and floor / roof panels are previously machined, having paths / negatives for the integration of vertical and horizontal infrastructures along the entire length of the panel, functionally interconnected with each other. Due to the planning, it is possible to create in advance directed negatives necessary for the integration of specific infrastructures, which require different configurations and dimensions, already during the industrial process, thus avoiding the need for additional construction / deconstruction works during the assembly of the construction system on site.

[0025] The nature of the construction technology and its technical, structural, mechanical and functional characteristics, allow the integration of wood-based cladding materials on the surface, as well as detection systems, monitoring and auxiliary equipment inside, through the negatives, intended for the integration of infrastructure and equipment to route and distribute cabling necessary for the correct operation of the products developed.

[0026] With prefabricated modular construction technology, it is possible to accelerate the entire process, reflecting the integration of infrastructures in an industrial and regulated environment, thus mitigating errors and waste, improving the perfect integration of infrastructures by ensuring during the life of the buildings, if necessary, any changes, developments, maintenance or dismantling to move the entire building or part of it.

[0027] These features give the construction system a scalable capacity, allowing constructions to be modified according to the user's needs. It is notable that this scalable feature in line with the on-site assembly and disassembly process can be programmed from the design phase and during the planning of panel production, allowing the construction to be enlarged or reduced, as well as the continuity of infrastructures according to the future configuration.

[0028] The building system allows the maintenance of detection and monitoring systems, in space and time, by replacing sensors, wiring or power supply equipment, receiving and communicating information according to the needs of the built space.

[0029] All the features described are in accordance with the principles of the circular economy and the zero waste policy.

[0030] Throughout this disclosure, a wood-based material or engineered wood, also referred to as solid wood, composite wood, synthetic wood, or manufactured panel, is considered to include a range of wood-derived products that are made by bonding or securing strands, particles, fibers, or veneers or panels of wood, together with adhesives or other fastening methods to form a composite material.

[0031] The application of this sensitive wood-based product avoids the need for additional equipment such as sensor detectors, which are often installed in the post-construction phase, much more intrusive and not visually adapted to the environment in which they are integrated.

[0032] In one embodiment, the sensor is deposited on the visible surface of the wood-based substrate using a deposition technology and the connection of said sensor to the electronic control unit is carried out by a flat cable, a printed track, an electric wire or any other suitable connection mode or combinations thereof, connected to the rear surface of the sensitive wood-based product, where it is placed so as to be imperceptible.

In one embodiment, the sensitive wood-based product comprises a sensor deposited directly in wood-based substrate materials that transform these products into a new device that interacts with the environment, where they are integrated, ceasing to be simple passive elements, but acquiring a fundamental role in the safety of these environments.

[0034] Furthermore, given the concerns inherent in integrating this solution into building systems, namely the need for maintenance of the sensors, which may require access to the power supply, electronic board and electrical wiring located at the rear of the products, these sensitive wood-based products may include a specific fixing for adhering to the basic building system. This fixing system allows the sensitive wood-based products to be fixed in a non-permanent manner, as is achieved with conventional mortars, which allows for easy and non-destructive removal in the event that access to the sensor control system unit is required. At the same time, it allows the preservation of electronic components, which do not come into contact with conventional mortars, which would also adhere to them, and which would therefore make their removal and / or reuse impossible after a potential failure.

[0035] This complete detection solution can be developed in modular houses with the aim of monitoring and alerting of dangerous situations in order to improve the quality of life and autonomy of users.

[0036] One aspect of the present disclosure is a sensitive wood-based product, comprising a wood-based substrate; at least one sensor deposited on a surface of the wood-based substrate; wherein the sensor comprises a conductive circuit; an electronic control unit connected to the sensor; wherein the wood-based substrate comprises a thickness of 2 mm to 80 mm and a moisture content of 4% to 11%. It has been surprisingly found that the combination of different types of sensors in the wood-based substrate improves the functionality of the substrate with respect to its usability, without affecting the sensor response and without including the strength and appearance of the product. These wood-based products can be made sensitive during the production process, in industrial facilities.

[0037] Moisture content may be measured using a different method, in the present disclosure, and is calculated at room temperature (20-25°C) using the formula:

[0038] % moisture = ((initial wet weight - final dry weight) / final dry weight) x 100%

[0084] The present disclosure relates to a sensitive wood-based product or article, a method of production and uses thereof.

[0085] In one embodiment, for maintenance purposes, the sensitive wood-based product comprises a fastening system that allows easy and non-destructive removal of said product, as an alternative to mortars traditionally used in construction. In one embodiment, the fastening system comprises a fastener, which is sufficient to secure the component, allowing the part to be disassembled in the event of a need for maintenance due to the failure of electrical or electronic components. This technology provides a solution that is virtually invisible, non-intrusive and easy to install and remove.

[0086] Throughout this description, some specific sensor will be disclosed as possible embodiments of the technology, namely a printed capacitive sensor, haptic actuator, humidity sensor, temperature sensor and vibration sensor deposited on the lignocellulosic substrate to form the sensitive wood-based product. These embodiments could be part of a housing structure, i.e., in a modular building system or furniture, using wood, fiberboard, high-density fiberboard, wood fiberboard, or combinations thereof.

[0087] In one embodiment of the sensitive wood-based product, the sensor is a deposited capacitive sensor, which is applied to the back surface of the wood-based substrate, i.e. not in contact with the user. Said sensor is deposited directly on the wood-based substrate using a conductive ink or, alternatively, deposited on polymer layers and laminated on the wood-based substrate. Both deposition processes achieve good results, whether by direct deposition or by lamination, but the different number of layers can have an impact since the thickness of the substrate affects the sensor response. This embodiment allows the inclusion of capacitive sensors, for example on a hollow piece of furniture, resulting in a seamless solution without the need for mechanical buttons.

[0088] In one embodiment of the sensitive wood-based product, it may comprise a haptic feedback actuator, which is applied to the back surface of the wood-based substrate, i.e. not in physical or visual contact with the user. Said actuator is deposited directly on a conductive substrate, such as polyvinylidene fluoride, and is integrated on wood-based substrates by lamination. A different number of layers has been tested, from three to seven layers, which allows for vibration feedback when a sensor is activated.

[0089] In one embodiment of the sensitive wood-based product, illustrated in [Fig.l], the wood-based product may comprise a sensor which is a capacitive sensor together with a haptic feedback actuator. This embodiment may be introduced into standard furniture and may comprise a sensory panel on such furniture. Different alerts and / or actions may be activated by said sensory panel, and also, in a further embodiment, a haptic feedback actuator may be coupled to said capacitive sensor in order to provide a vibration sensation to the user.

[0090] In one embodiment of the sensitive wood-based product, illustrated in [Fig.2], the wood-based product may comprise a humidity sensor on the surface of the wood-based substrate. This sensor is deposited on the surface in contact with the environment, for proper acquisition of data of the living conditions. The deposition may be carried out by direct deposition on the wood-based substrate, for example by printing, or, alternatively, deposition on a polymer membrane and lamination on the wood-based substrate. A double-sided sticker may be used for lamination of the sensor in the polymer membrane on the wood-based substrate. In one embodiment, the sensor may be composed of two different layers: a conductive circuit and a sensitivity layer. In some embodiments, the sensor is encapsulated to protect the sensor, and in some specific embodiments, the encapsulation is perforated for better activation and / or measurements of the sensor, since it is in direct connection with the environment using said perforations. The best results have been obtained with the embodiment with lamination of the wood-based substrate with a double-sided sticker, after deposition on a polymer membrane. The main advantage in this embodiment is to obtain a transparent solution for regulating environmental conditions, integrated in a hollow cabinet, less space being required for correct data acquisition.

[0091] In one embodiment of the sensitive wood-based product, illustrated in [Fig. 3], the sensitive wood-based product may comprise a temperature sensor on the surface of the wood-based substrate. This sensor is deposited on the surface in contact with the environment, for proper acquisition of data from living conditions. The deposition can be carried out directly on the wood-based substrate, for example by printing, or deposited on a polymer substrate, such as polyimide, and laminated with a thermoplastic polymer, such as polyurethane, or the polyimide substrate is pressed at the same time as the structure is pressed or glued on both sides. A different number of layers was tested and the best results were obtained in the embodiment deposited in the polymer membrane and laminated with a membrane or integrated by the use of double-sided adhesive. The main advantage in this embodiment is to obtain a transparent solution for regulating environmental conditions, integrated, for example in hollow furniture, which results in less space required for correct data acquisition.

[0092] In one embodiment of the wood-based product, illustrated in [Fig.4], the sensitive wood-based product may comprise a vibration sensor applied to the modular building system to detect abnormal activities, by vibration, for example any fall or any intruder in the home. In this embodiment, the sensor is deposited on both surfaces of commercial piezoelectric sheets, encapsulated with a polymer film. Therefore, the sensor layer is integrated on the wood-based substrate, being between said substrate and the modular building system. In order to allow the sensor layer to vibrate, a cavity is perforated, for example in the wood-based substrate, in order to leave space for the sensor to vibrate. To have a truly defined position, the sensor layer may be mechanically fixed in two opposite ends. The main advantage in this embodiment is to obtain a transparent integration, in a modular construction system, of a vibration sensor, hidden from users.
